where’s that man who’d throw blankets over my barbed wire?
Tumblr media
*another angsty carmy fic coming right up*
“Ma’am? I’m sorry but we will need the table if your guest hasn’t arrived yet,” the waiter told you. You could tell he felt embarrassed to have to practically kick you out after being stood up.
You set the nice white napkin that had been on your lap on the empty plate in front of you, “I understand. Thanks for keeping me company.”
The waiter helped you put your coat back on and you placed a nice tip on the table before walking out. It felt so humiliating to sit at that table for the past hour alone.
Carmen forgot your anniversary.
You had been perfectly fine celebrating your two year anniversary with him in your nice apartment but he was the one that wanted to go all out. He chose the fancy French restaurant and made the reservation.
He was also the one that didn’t show up.
At first, you began to panic, thinking that something had happened to him on his way to the restaurant. You must’ve texted him a dozen times. When you checked his location, you saw that he was at The Bear.
There’s no way that he would forget your anniversary. Right?
Well, he did.
You walked until you were able to find a cab. Part of you wanted to confront Carmen at The Bear but you didn’t want to make a scene. Despite how mad you were at him, you respected his place of business.
Instead of going there, you went to the apartment that you shared with Carmen to wait for him. You didn’t even bother changing out of the red dress that specifically bought for that evening when you made it home. Taking off your coat, you placed it on the hook and sat on the couch.
It was an hour later when you heard the jingle of keys and the front door open and close. “Babe? You here?”
You didn’t answer him as he walked into the living room.
He set his phone and keys down on the coffee table in front of you, “Hey, what are you all dressed up for?”
“Our anniversary dinner that was two hours ago.” You answered coldly.
Carmen froze as it dawned on him that he forgot, “Fuck. Babe, I’m so fuckin’ sorry. Things have been so hectic at the restaurant these last few days and it totally slipped my mind. My phone died a few hours ago. I’m so sorry.”
He sat down next to you and tried to grab your hand. You moved it out of his grasp. “I waited for you for an hour, Carmen. It was so embarrassing. The waiter made me leave because they needed the table. How could you forget?”
“I told you. It seemed like everything that could go wrong did today. We had three waitstaff out with the flu-“
You cut him off, “Syd could’ve taken care of things for one night so that you could go out with your girlfriend! Aren’t I important too?”
Carmen looked like that question pissed him off, “Are you seriously askin’ me that fuckin’ question?”
You stood up from the couch needing some space from him, “Yes, I am because this isn’t the first time! How many times have you had to reschedule our plans? How many days do I barely see you? We’ve been together for two years, Carmen and I feel like we are just two strangers at this point.”
“Why haven’t you said anything then if you feel that way?”
“I’ve tried to have date nights and I’ve even stopped by The Bear to see if you can go on a coffee break. You always turn me down because something more important is pressing.” You’d been dying to have this conversation with him for some time now.
After countless times of letting things go, you were blurting out everything that you’d want to tell him. It had all been weighing so heavily on you lately. You could feel it draining you.
“(Y/n), I inherited a mess from Michael. I had to look after everyone’s jobs and-“
You interrupted him again, “I’m not saying that you have to choose me or the restaurant, Carmen. That would be incredibly selfish of me. But…. it’s like you’re out building this life for yourself and I’m just here hoping that you give me an ounce of attention.”
“You’re making it sound like our relationship is horrible. I thought that we were doing good.”
That almost hurt you more than being stood up on your anniversary. He thought that things were good? He hadn’t noticed that the two of you were so incredibly distant?
“Things haven’t been good in a long time. When we first started dating, you were present and it seemed like you’d do anything to spend time with me.”
“That was before we remodeled the restaurant. I had more time but now-“
“Now, you’re too busy for me.”
He shook his head, “I’m not, (Y/n). I just had more time back then. Now, it’s all on me. I’m stressed out.”
“I don’t want to add to your stress, Carmen.”
“Wh-what are you trying to say?” He stood up and made his way closer to you. You could tell that he was anxious about where the direction of this conversation was going.
“I’m not happy. I haven’t been for a while. I’ve tried to make things better but I can’t do it alone. I deserve to be with someone who I don’t have to beg to want to be with me.”
“(Y/n), I don’t want to be without you. I’ll start coming home earlier and I’ll uh have Sydney and Marcus start taking some more responsibility. I will-“
“And in a month when things are super crazy at The Bear because of the holidays? We’re back in this situation again. What kind of promises will you make then?”
Carmen seemed confused, “Do you not want to work on things?”
“A month ago, hell even a few weeks ago, I would’ve said yes, but I’m tired, Carmen. Tonight felt like it was the last straw. Sitting alone, you not answering your phone, it was embarrassing and so painful. I love you so much. But I think for the both of us, it’ll be better if we weren’t together.”
“I don’t want us to break up, (Y/n). I love you.” Carmen said softly.
You pulled him closer. He rested his head against your shoulder, “We can both focus on ourselves. I’m so proud of everything that you’ve done. You deserve all of the praise that is coming your way.”
You wanted to appear strong but on the inside you were breaking as well. There was a point in time where you imagined spending the rest of your life with Carmen Berzatto.
Now, there was a strong possibility that he wouldn’t be in your future. Were you making the right decision?
It might’ve felt like you weren’t in the moment. You just wanted to feel wanted and happy and with someone who couldn’t get enough of you. Carmen was that man at first. Things changed for the better and for the worse.
“I hate that I took you for granted. I will regret it for the rest of my life.” You felt him kiss your neck softly.
“I’ll still be here if you need me. You know that right?”
He nodded as you both stood there wrapped around each other saying your goodbyes without words.

Beatles defending each other ❤️
In 1965 [the Byrds] toured England and Paul invited us to his club, the Scotch of St James’s [sic]. He sent a limo to pick us up. He said he had been listening to our music. We were blown away. He took us for a ride through London in his Aston Martin, at great speed. He was really hip, he and John were so tight it was like one person at times. Unlike the Byrds, [where] Crosby would just leave you out to dry, the Beatles all defended each other to the hilt. If you criticised, say, George then they would all respond.
Roger McGuinn, in Paul McCartney: Now & Then, Tony Barrow and Robin Bextor
“They’re four very different people who together form a unit that is virtually impregnable. If, for instance, someone should find fault with anything one of them has done, the others rush to his defence. They close their ranks. They’re very close indeed. A lot closer than people think.”
George Martin, Disc and Music Echo (1967)
And actually, we’ve got the image of him all these years about criticising Paul – yeah, he did, but it’s like [when] you criticise your wife. “I can criticise her, but you can’t.” I was there once when some guy was saying that he didn’t think ‘Let It Be’ was such a great record, and he thought John would agree, and he didn’t.
November 10th, 2009: Journalist Ray Connolly
Q: How did Paul react [to “How Do You Sleep”]?
John: I don’t know because I never saw him, but I think he made a comment last year which was pretty spot-on which was ‘whatever I’m saying about him is my problem, or vice versa.’ The only regret I have about it is that it should never have been about Paul because everybody’s so bothered with who’s it about that they missed the track. That’s what bugged me. I’m entitled to call him what I want to, and vice versa. It’s in our family, but if somebody else calls him names I won’t take it. It’s our own business. And anyway, it’s like Dylan said about his stuff when he looked back on it, it was all about him.
Patrick Synder-Scrumpy with Jack Breschard, “Sometime in L.A., Lennon Plays It as It Lays.” Crawdaddy [March 1974]
"When John did 'How Do You Sleep?' I didn't want to get into a slinging match. Part of it was cowardice. John was a great wit, and I didn't want to go fencing with the rapier champion of East Cheam-- But it meant that I had to take shit--It meant that I had to take lines like 'All you ever did was Yesterday.' I always find myself wanting to excuse John's behavior, just because I loved him. It's like a child, sure he was a naughty child, but don't you call my child naughty. Even if it's me he's shitting on, don't you call him naughty. That's how I felt about this and still do. I don't have a grudge whatsoever against John. I think he knew exactly what he was doing, and, because we had been so intimate, he knew what would hurt me and used it to great effect. I thought, 'Keep your head down and time will tell,' and it did because in the 'Imagine' film (Imagine John Lennon, documentary), he says it was really all about himself."
Barry Miles, Many Years From Now, 1997
“Well the deal was, he could say that, but if you said that, if anybody said anything bad about Paul, John’d take a swing at you. He’d say “you can’t talk about Paul like that”, Paul was his best buddy. If you were talking to Paul and you said something derogatory about John, he’d get up and leave. Paul was more of a peaceful guy, but John had that hot head, and he’d say “you wanna talk about Paul? Let’s go”. You weren’t allowed to say anything bad about John or Paul to each one of them because they would defend each other to the nth degree, which I liked, because you could tell they were attached at the hip.
Alice Cooper Live and Uncut on the Kim Mitchell Show
You know, John loved Paul. No doubt about it. I remember once he said to me, “I’m the only person who’s allowed to say things like that about Paul. I don’t like it when other people do.” He didn’t like if other people said nasty things about Paul. And he always referred to Paul as his estranged fiancé and things like that, like he did on that [live] record ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ with Elton in Madison Square Garden. And he knew that his relationship with Paul was very important to him. But you know, like all great friendships, they’d grown apart and married different people and had different lives. He knew what he didn’t like about Paul, but he also knew what he liked about Paul.
1990: Former Beatles publicist Tony King
George didn’t mind slagging Paul off. But he HATED other people doing it.
Tom Petty

Lovejoy is in this article!
Wake Up! Lovejoy are already a phenomenon
Squashed into a tour bus somewhere in Berlin are the biggest band that – unless you’re as chronically online as us, Dear Reader – you’ve maybe never heard of. With sold-out tours across the UK, Europe and North America, millions of monthly Spotify listeners and a spot in the UK Top 40 with their latest single ‘Call Me What You Like’, Lovejoy could be mistaken for veterans.
Far from it. Their first proper bit of press is, well, this very cover interview. They’re gearing up to release only their third (or maybe fourth, depending how you count their just dropped ‘From Studio 4’ collection, released under the name Anvil Cat) EP, ‘Wake Up & It’s Over’, and those sold-out tours? The first shows they’ve ever played. It’s rare this amount of hype surrounds a guitar band these days, so who the fuck are Lovejoy?
Formed during the early 2021 UK lockdown, Lovejoy consists of Will Gold as the frontman, Joe Goldsmith on lead guitar, Ash Kabosu on bass, and Mark Boardman on drums. Seemingly brought together by sheer luck, their epic ascent is the result of a lifetime of individual hard work and some serious fan devotion over the past couple of years.
It’s taken a while to pin the band down, and we catch them just after their first full UK tour as they embark on the European leg. It’s all been a bit of a whirlwind.
“I think it was our 32nd show yesterday, which is just nuts,” says Ash, who introduces himself as the one who doesn’t talk and proceeds to lead the interview. “Literally every show we’ve played, we’ve been like, ‘That was the best one!’ Then the next one, ‘Oh, that was the best one!’”
“I’ve especially been enjoying acclimating myself to not knowing where I’m going to be falling asleep every night,” says Will, “which is a very hard thing to get around. But it’s a lot of fun. I’m really enjoying it. And I love seeing everyone’s faces because we’ve been somewhat of a lockdown band. To now be able to put faces to the numbers is great; it’s lovely to see and speak to them.”
Describing their very first live shows at the end of 2022 as “teething”, Lovejoy admit they’re still getting to grips with it all. Although the size of their fanbase means they could’ve easily sold out bigger venues than the humble Electric Brixton they headed up on this tour, they didn’t want to skip steps for a good reason.
“Rock music has always been what me and Joe were the most interested in” -Will Gold
“We didn’t want to be bad,” says Ash, frankly. “It’s a completely different ballpark to just, you know, playing guitar in your bedroom, and there are so many moving parts and so many things you don’t think about that you need to learn and understand. We didn’t want to deliver a show to the fans that wasn’t good enough, so we’ve been deliberately ramping it up step by step and going through the process as naturally as possible.”
“It’s so much more personable and fun to make mistakes in front of a crowd of a couple hundred people who are along with you for the ride than when you start to get into the larger crowds,” adds Will. “Making a mistake, at least for me, really gets to me, but if I’m in a room with less people, and they’re there for the story, I feel more ready to make mistakes.”
Will and Joe cut their teeth playing with a folk punk band a few years prior to Lovejoy forming. After what Will describes as a “very dramatic first gig”, they went their separate ways, but his lust for live never went away. Finding one another at the beginning of the pandemic, Joe came to visit Will before the lockdowns kicked in and decided to sleep on the sofa rather than risking taking public transport back and forth to London.
“We wrote our entire first EP in my basement and very quickly decided we’re going to need a drummer and a bassist because all the stuff we were writing was band stuff,” Will explains. “It wasn’t our normal folk stuff that we were used to – and rock music has always been what me and Joe were the most interested in; even when we were in that folk band, we used to implore the lead singer if we could write some indie music please, and he would always be like, nah, not really into Arctic Monkeys actually.”
So they set out to find both a bassist and a drummer. Fate did its thing, and upon walking into a Smashburger in Brighton, Will met Ash, bass guitar in tow, and asked him if he’d like to be in a band.
“Ash is not one to say no to many exciting adventures,” says Will, “so he said yeah, and I gave him my address. Joe was very sceptical at first when I said I found a bassist in a burger shop.”
“I think for me personally,” adds Ash, “I’m living in Brighton – which is kind of a young, creative place – you often have conversations in pubs and places where people are like, we should do this, we should do that, and I genuinely thought that this was just another one of those conversations. Like, ‘Hey, I’m in a band, do you want to play?’ I never thought in my wildest dreams anything would even come of it. I didn’t even think we’d practice, let alone be playing shows in front of thousands of people.”
As for Mark, he was booked for the day via the freelancer hiring website Fiverr. When they couldn’t pay him the fee he was owed, they instead offered him a spot in the band.
“I said, look, you’re sick at this, do you want to just join the band?” Will explains. “Mark thought about it for a good five seconds and then said yes.”
“I was really determined, playing acoustic guitar and learning stuff from YouTube and Arctic Monkeys songbooks” -Joe Goldsmith
Echoing Ash’s sentiments, Mark recalls, “I thought it would be another band that I’d join that wouldn’t even release on Spotify. Now we’ve sold out tours in the UK, Europe, America….”
Life before Lovejoy was very different for most of the boys. Mark was at university studying editing, hoping to work in visual effects, letting drumming take the back seat. “It would have been a grind for like 40 years to get a good paying job, and Will came along and saved me. So I’m very grateful for that,” he says.
Ash was working in broadcasting as a producer for TV, a job he’d gotten into after studying film production at uni, and had taught himself animation as another means of income. “Unlike Mark, I actually enjoyed it,” he adds.
As for Joe, he was working as a tree surgeon, which is a flashier-sounding name than what the job actually entailed. “I was literally just cleaning up branches on the floor,” he says. “I wasn’t even allowed to go up the trees.”
Will isn’t such a stranger to the spotlight, as he edited for the YouTube channel SootHouse in the late 2010s, later creating his own channel as Wilbur Soot and amassing a sizeable following on the streaming platform Twitch (although the other boys say they had no idea about his following when they joined the band, Ash noting, “I just thought he was quite a tall, handsome man, we’re just here because we fancy Will”).
With the band assembled, they started recording together in Will’s bedroom. In early 2021, the UK was still firmly in lockdown, so with all studios closed, it was their only choice. When they finally made it to a studio, the group had two days to record five songs, the ones that would make up their first EP, 2021’s ‘Are You Alright?’.
“We didn’t get enough done,” says Will, “which is why the first EP actually has scratch vocals. We just used my draft vocals that are then doubled up and thickened out. And also because it would have been far too expensive to just keep going back.”
“Which is why, little easter egg,” adds Ash, “some of the lyrics are wrong. We don’t sing those anymore, so the fans get very confused when we perform some of the earlier songs.”
The whole journey has been a learning curve for all four members. With none of them coming from a proper musical background, there was no one to guide them in the process. “We kind of had to jump headfirst in and see what we can do off the back of it,” says Will.
That isn’t to say they haven’t put the work in, though. With each of the boys picking up their instruments in their childhood or teenage years, it feels like they’ve been setting up their own individual dominoes, hitting the ground running when they were knocked down in perfect formation.
“There’s a photo of me when I was a baby,” Mark begins, explaining where he got his start in music. “I couldn’t even walk, and I’m on my auntie’s lap, who originally taught me drums. I’ve been wanting to play since I could speak, basically, but we could never afford a kit. And then I got to about eight years old, my parents finally got me an electric drum kit, and my auntie started teaching me. I caught up with her quickly, which was crazy. I always wanted to be in a band, but I was thinking more realistically, it’s the same odds as becoming a famous football player or something like that. Then along came these boys, and it all changed.”
“I was really determined from when I was about 13, 14?” Joe recalls, “Playing acoustic guitar and just learning stuff from YouTube and Arctic Monkeys songbooks, working out tabs and things like that. I was pretty dead set on at least giving it a shot to try.”
Ash’s start was similar, learning to play guitar with his dad. “When I was very young, my dad found an old Spanish guitar in the attic of our family home that wasn’t ours,” he tells us. “I’ve kind of always played guitar, and I’ve always been interested in music; my dad is in a band as well, bless him, doing dad rock. It’s always been a part of me, but I never ever thought I’d do anything with it.”
“Not for me,” Will jumps in. “The minute I first started learning guitar, I was like, this is what I want. When I was a teenager, I used to follow around bands and go to all their shows, and I knew from that moment I want this as my creative outlet. This is where I want to put my creative energy. I literally remember I shut myself in my room and practised guitar for like ten hours a day in the beginning. I missed two summers doing that. To finally be in this position I’m in now, thanks to all the wonderful support we’ve gotten from people, a lot of them have come across from the YouTube space, is just absolutely humbling. I’m trying to give it back in any way I can.”
“I like to make rumours amongst the fan base; we’ve made up a bunch of nonsense” -Ash Kabosu
It’s fair to say Lovejoy have been pulled substantially further up the ladder by a deeply devoted fan base, but that’s part of what makes their trajectory so exciting. There hasn’t been a new guitar band that’s had venues bursting at the seams like this for a long time. Just two self-released (on their own label Anvil Cat via AWAL) EPs, debut ‘Are You Alright?’ and follow-up ‘Pebble Brain’ garnered enough love to have fans queuing around the block for hours on end when the live shows finally came. It’s reminiscent of what 5SOS were seeing at the start of their career ten years ago, or that other numbers band.
And the devotion goes both ways, too; Lovejoy play games with the fans, leaving puzzles on social media for the fans to solve, firing confetti with QR codes printed on every other piece out at their London headline show. Their involvement hasn’t gone unnoticed.
“Oh, man, I love them,” Ash gushes. “One of the best feelings for me is when we create something, even if it’s something as simple as a little photo shoot, the response is incredible. And to inspire other people to create through our creativity is just so rewarding. My favourite part of it is seeing the writing, the poetry, the paintings, the drawings, like all the art that comes back to us is incredible.”
Joe adds, “Every single person that I’ve met after a show or before a show, they’re all so respectful and all so lovely. And they’re just so generous.”
Ash continues, “They make such an effort and go out of their way to listen to the support bands’ music and show up for them; they show up on time and fill the place out for everyone. And then they go crazy jumping around and singing to everyone’s music, and that’s just so fucking cool.”
With new EP ‘Wake Up & It’s Over’ on the horizon, it’ll be their first proper release since 2021. A break away from recording to do the touring part of being a new band has led to Lovejoy’s longest writing phase yet and has played a part in shaping the sound of their new material. This time around, being able to take more time to record and more studio options, they’ve fined tuned their sound and brought it closer to their personal ideal.
Aiming for something a little heavier this time, the boys wanted to pull in their individual influences more drastically. For Will, that’s shouty British lyrics and overdriven guitars (he calls Arctic Monkeys the most famous example), with Ash also growing up on the late 2000s indie of Foals and Bombay Bicycle Club. Mark, on the other hand, was introduced to bands like Bring Me The Horizon and Asking Alexandria by his sister at a young age, pushing him into heavier territory when it came to discovering his own tastes and allowing the band to take on the slogan of ‘the only indie band with a double kick drum’. (Joe simply adds, “In the words of Brandon Flowers, it’s indie rock and roll for me.”)
Opening track ‘Portrait of a Blank Slate’ pulls in those influences most brazenly, employing the mathy Foals-y lead guitar, ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’ era Arctic Monkeys fiddly bass, and wordy vocals a la The Wombats. “I can’t wait to play that for thousands of people,” says Joe.
They’ve been road-testing some of the other tracks too, the poppier (see: jumpier) ‘Consequences’ and ‘Warsaw’, as well as the single ‘Call Me What You Like’, but the rest have been kept a secret, one track particularly well.
Initially beginning the recording of this EP late last year, the boys weren’t 100% satisfied with the tracks. Having already played some of the tracks live, fans developed a particular affinity for one called ‘It’s Golden Hour Somewhere’, and up until the EP drops, have been under the impression it isn’t going to be released.
“I like to make rumours amongst the fan base,” says Ash, “I sort of said yeah, it’s scrapped, we just don’t like it, it’s not up to scratch, it doesn’t fit the nature of the EP, blah, blah, blah. We’ve just made up a bunch of nonsense. And they’ve bought into it. And as I expected, they’re also campaigning to bring it back. We’ve seen signs at shows saying ‘PLAY GOLDEN HOUR’. It’s just a bit of fun, and I think the relief and the excitement they’ll feel on the day that it comes out to just see it in the tracklisting will be worth it. I think for the amount of time that the fans have been waiting, we want it to be as special as possible.”
Even with ‘Call Me What You Like’ landing at No.32 on the UK Top 40 – an enormous feat and a rarity for a new band these days – it’s still what the fans think that means the most to Lovejoy.
“It was very validating to see it go that far,” says Will. “I think that was our longest-ever lyric writing time; we had the tune down for about ten months before I even penned the lyrics that ended up going in the final release. To see that time pay off is amazing, but we had no idea it would get that reception. It’s more important that our fans really love what we’re putting out. We’re aiming to create music that will really connect with our fan base, and you know, we’ll give them back what they’ve given us.”
With formative years that any new band would dream of, a knockout first tour and an audience hungry for more, Lovejoy are keen to maintain the hype. Currently using soundcheck time to write new material, every spare hour is used wisely while they’re on the road, Ash hinting they’ve already got new songs saved up for when they return home. This summer, they’ll be hitting the festival circuit, playing Reading and Leeds for the first time and undoubtedly not the last. The path may not be fully paved yet, but it’s definitely leading somewhere exciting.
Will says, “We’ve felt that wave of energy from the audience singing our words back at us, and that’s really influenced my lyrical style and our music instrumentally, which took a lot longer. 2022 was a sort of foundational year; I feel like this is the launch in 2023 into this next era of Lovejoy.”

‘Famous singer/songwriter and artist, Ellie Williams seen with famous actress and singer/songwriter Y/N’
‘Songwriter Ellie Williams, leaving the studio with Y/N? Is this the internet's new favorite couple?’
“So, as you know, we’ve seen some things about you and Y/N. Is there anything you’d like to share about the two of you with your fans?”
“I wish there was something to share. We’re just good friends. I’m just trying to see if I actually want to get into the acting industry. She’s my—, like… I don’t know, she’s my decoy. My practice, if you wanna put it like that.”
“Look, we know this isn’t a very appropriate question and it’s been asked a lot. Y’all are fuckin’?”
“Who?”
“C’mon, Ellie! You and Y/N, of course! We gotta know. Give us the scoop, man.”
“Jesus, no. I’ve got my eyes set on somebody else anyways, she’s just a good friend.”
“You two, Y/N and you, have been spotted together a whole bunch lately. Is there any reason or coincidence to it?”
“I mean, no. Other than just she brings me with her to check out what the acting industry is really like. It’s… It’s crazy, honestly. Props to her for having the courage for that, she’s a fucking… She’s super fucking strong.”
Blah, blah, fucking-blah. I hated all these stupid fucking articles and interviews with the same dumbass questions. Why did people have to know my relationship status with someone else? Why did they care so much? Why is it a problem for people who don’t know either of us? Just let us live our fucking lives, good-fucking-god. Can I just live my life the way that I want to without being harassed about my love life?
Y/N and I had met at an award ceremony, both fairly new to the respective careers we had gotten ourselves into. We were both assigned to open the show and also seated next to each other. She's such a lovely girl, super chill and respectful. She also minds her business when she's supposed to and never bothers anyone. But her fanbase? I don't know how or why she deals with any of the men she's attracted, but good on her.
I couldn't even be mad at the people asking such invasive questions because here I was, in a hotel room with her, burying my strap deep into her, face contorting into such a wonderful face that I needed to be engraved into my mind. She was so sweet and delicate, a wonderful view to just gaze upon. She sat on my lap as I used my hands to guide her hips down and push my hips up into her. The drool slipping from her lips, hanging from the corner let me know just how much she was really enjoying our time together.
"Fuck, Ellie, I can't do this anymore, I can't take it," a rich whimper came from the gorgeous figure above me, hands gripping onto my shoulders like crazy. A smirk grazed my face as her teary eyes came to meet mine, begging for us to come to an end. I couldn't help but lift her ever-so-slightly so she would offer me yet another cry from those beautiful lips of hers.
I couldn't respond to her. No way, no how. I tilted my head to glance down at the mess she was making on my lap, chuckling at how crazy it was. One hand slid up to her slightly parted lips, thumb slipping in to press down on her tongue. Those lovely moans were now muffled, hips grinding on mine to create that friction she had loved so dearly, starting to now shake at the euphoric sensation she had been receiving for the past hour and a half.
"Oh, but you're taking me so well, princess. How many times have you finished, hm? It's a fucking disaster down there, y'know."
As much as she wanted to respond to me, we both knew she couldn't. She was sucking on my thumb at this point, those delicious sobs still detectable. Chuckling at her attempts, my arms wrapped around her waist as I shoved my face into her chest to lick from her sternum to just below her neck while my thumb had left her oral cavity.
"You're so cruel, Els."
"I'm cruel? You really think so?"
"Mhm. I can't take this. It's too much, I'm so shaky."
She was not kidding about that. She was shaking like a little chihuahua, holding onto me for dear life. I hummed at her situation, peeling away so sluggishly.
"My sweet girl," I whispered, "I'll let you lay down next time. I promise."
"You said that last time and had me against a wall for a full forty-five minutes."
"You looked so angelic. What was I supposed to do? Give you what you want?"
"Yes!" She pouted, though there was a slight smile in that pout she gave me. I shook my head at her, helping her up from my lap as she tried not to fall over and eat shit. I should really give her a break but... She's all good. I know she is.
“I wish we didn’t have to hide this shit anymore,” her face rose up only to hide in the crook of my neck, sighing softly as she ran her hands up and down my arm, “if only people could mind their own fucking business.”
“We could always just say fuck it and go public. I don’t care anymore, they already know.”
Y/N’s eyes popped up, all wide and happy, a lovely smile taking over the pout I knew she had set up just seconds ago. I nodded to her, sitting her in the chair I was in, grabbing her a damp rag and her clothes that had been dumped on the bed.
“But that’s only if you’re willing to answer some questions people ask.”
“I don’t care. As long as you’re okay with it then I am too.”
Shrugging, I cleaned her up, taking my time when I came to run the rag over her still hardened nipples and her cunt which still was glistening in the dim lights. Her chuckle brought me back to looking at her, speeding up the process before kissing her forehead.
“So,” I chuckled, “that song we recorded is getting released at midnight and you are going on tour with me. You think that’s enough confirmation from the both of us?”
“Oh definitely. If they need more, sucks to be them.”
“Okay, fair enough.”
“What are we gonna do? Put out a sex tape?”
“I mean…” I smirked softly, glancing at our phones on the bed, “we—,”
“Shut up, Ellie,” a giggle cut me off while her hand beckoned me over, “you get an hour and a half. Go crazy,” her legs spread open, the heaven’s calling my name as I stared down at her glistening core.
“You know me so well.”

okay drunk as hell changkyun deciding not to go home but to go to you and as soon as you open the front door he is going to town with the best head of your life because the topic of weddings was brought up and all he could do was think about YOU
Tumblr media
“kyun?”
the man on your doorstep smiles hazily at you. he’s leaning against the wall, not because he’s trying to look cool, you realize, but because he needs to for support.
“what are you doing here?”
he shrugs. “i was in the area. thought i’d drop by.”
“are you drunk?”
“maybe.”
“how’d you get here?” you ask, craning your neck to see if there was a car outside waiting for him.
“i walked.”
“what?”
“i walked.”
“you- how far?”
he shrugs again. “like i said, i was in the area.”
he doesn’t know how far he walked. you think to yourself. it’s a miracle he made it here without getting lost. or maybe he really had been close by.
“are you going to let me in?”
“oh.”
you sidestep to allow changkyun to pass you. he steps through the doorway into the foyer and leans down to slip off his shoes, promptly making his way to the kitchen to wash his hands afterwards.
“you could’ve texted,” you call after him, crossing your arms over your chest as you follow him through your house.
“why, so you could tell your other boyfriend to get lost before i got here?”
you roll your eyes. “yes, that’s exactly why.”
he gives you an apologetic smile over the half-wall that divides the kitchen from the dining nook. “i’m sorry. i’ll call you next time.”
“not that i’m not happy to see you,” you add, suddenly feeling guilty about your less than enthusiastic welcome. “i just wasn’t expecting to.”
changkyun crosses the room and wraps his arms around your waist.
“i know how you get, baby. you like things a certain way. you like knowing what to expect. i’m sorry for not giving you a head’s up. i wasn’t thinking about it.”
“that’s because you’re drunk,” you say, pushing a finger to his chest. “in the middle of the day, no less.”
“it was for a program.”
“a program? like a show?”
“yeah, have you ever watched lee youngji’s show?”
“you were on it?!”
“we just finished taping it.”
“i love that show! we watched hoshi’s episode together, remember?”
“baby, can i go down on you?”
you pull yourself from your boyfriend’s grasp to stare at him, at a loss for words.
“please?” he adds, as if that’s what was missing from what he’d said.
“what- where is this coming from?”
“do i need a reason to want to eat you out?”
well, no. changkyun was kind of addicted to your pussy anyway so it wasn’t out of character for him to ask—
“i mean, it just came out of nowhere,” you explain. “one second we’re talking about youngji’s show, the next you’re asking to shove your tongue up my cunt.”
changkyun whimpers at the mental image that produces in his mind and pulls you close again.
“we were just talking about weddings and wedding presents while we filmed and it made me think about you.”
“we’re not married.”
“but i want to be!”
“changkyun, you better not be proposing to me right now.”
“i’m not,” he assures you. “even though i do want to marry you. someday. it’s just, weddings always make me think of you. you know, they make me wonder what our wedding will be like.”
“you just love love,” you sigh, brushing his bangs out of his eyes. “and we’ve been to so many weddings lately. it seems like all our friends are getting married. that’s probably where you’re getting the association between me and weddings from. us celebrating love together.”
“that, and we always have the best sex at the hotel afterwards.”
“kyun!”
“what? we do!”
“you’re really only thinking with your dick right now, aren’t you?”
he cocks his head to the side and shrugs. “what can i say, you bring it out in me.”
“no, i don’t. the whiskey does.”
“let’s agree to say it’s a little bit of both.”
you roll your eyes.
“you never answered my question,” changkyun reminds you.
“what?”
“can i go down on you?”
you sigh and take changkyun by the hand, leading him to the living room. you hear him let out a giddy giggle from being you as he follows and you can’t help but smile to yourself.
“on your knees,” you instruct, planting yourself on the couch in front of the spot you chose for him.
you expect him to obey eagerly but he pouts as he sinks down onto the rug, pursing his lips into a frown.
you sigh. “what is it?”
“wanted you to sit on my face,” he mumbles.
“well how was i supposed to know that? you should’ve specified.”
“i’m specifying now,” he whines.
“jesus, how much did you drink?”
“it doesn’t matter.”
“maybe you should sober up a little first.”
changkyun’s eyes widen. “please don’t make me wait any longer, baby. i need it so bad. need to taste you, make you feel good.”
you groan and pinch the bridge of your nose. really, your boyfriend begging to eat you out shouldn’t stress you out as much as it is.
“fine,” you secede, “but you have to do it on your knees. i’ll consider sitting on your face when you’re not so tipsy.”
“but why?”
“knowing you, you’ll forget to breathe. or if you do remember to breathe but i’m suffocating you, you’ll be too stubborn to tap out before you make me cum. you’d literally rather die trying than give up.”
your boyfriend purses his lips. “you might have a point.”
“you know i do,” you scoff, nudging him with your knee. “now, take what i’m offering you or nothing at all.”
“yes, ma’am.”

Ghost!Robin Arc 2 Part 4
Here's everything I shared during the ask game event with some minor edits. Most of the edits are around the results of the scan, I more accurately described what I was trying to say.
Story Summary: Everything changed the evening Jason met Jazz's brother. Danny introduced him and his entire family to the ghost that is, apparently, haunting him. The ghost of the Robin he had been.
The ghost of the person everyone he's ever known wishes he still was.
All he wants is to make it go away.
Arc 1: First, Last
Arc 2: First, Previous
Word Count: 1.7k
-----
Frostbite looked between them and hummed. “I should like a blood sample from you”—he nodded to Jason—“and an ectoplasm sample from you”—he indicated the ghost—“please hold out one of your arms.”
Jason sighed and gave his left arm. The yeti took out a syringe, thankfully a normal sized one, though it looked tiny in his giant hands. He watched as Frostbite carefully pierced his vein and filled a vial with blood. It went as smoothly as any blood draw he’d ever received from Dr. Thompkins or Alfred.
“You’re good at that,” he commented.
The yeti gave him an amused look. “I should hope so. I have been a doctor for many times longer than you’ve been alive.”
Jason flushed. “Sorry, it’s just… I wasn’t sure how many living patients you’ve ever had.”
“Many ghosts come to us for healing. And of those who were once alive, their ghostly bodies often mimic the ones they had in life. It is not so different, drawing blood from a living body as it is drawing ectoplasm from a ghostly one.”
“Huh. I guess that makes sense. I didn’t realize.”
Frostbite ruffled his hair and it took every ounce of self control he had to not pull away. “That is quite all right. You will learn in time.”
Jason had to bite his tongue to keep from saying he didn’t want to learn.
But the doctor was already turning to the interloper and reaching for his arm. Jason couldn’t help but watch as they made more of those chirps and trills at each other. The ones from Frostbite were much deeper than the ones from Danny or the ghost, but they were unmistakably the same sort of noises.
When Frostbite took the ectoplasm sample, it really didn’t look any different than a normal blood draw. Except the resulting fluid was bright Lazarus-green. He shuddered and looked away.
Frostbite pulled out what looked like a transparent tablet and typed something on it. “A technician will be along shortly to collect the samples and run a few tests on them. Now, Prince Phantom said he scanned you and it showed the two of you are tied together. I should like to repeat the process but with our own scanners.”
“What do your scanners do?” asked Jason.
“I will show you. See this machine?” Frostbite indicated a machine that was positioned in the corner of the room. It looked like an old-fashioned x-ray machine you might find at a dentists’ office. It was about the size of a standing shower and was mostly open. “This part here”—he touched a piece of metal that reached from floor to ceiling—“will circle around the two of you and track your ectoplasm. It serves a similar purpose in ghost anatomy to an x-ray of a human. From the readings, I will be able to assess your core, young Robin, and your liminality, Sir Jason.”
“Just Jason, please.”
“Are you not a warrior of your people? And you are courting Princess Jasmine. No, to call you anything else would be improper.”
Jason flushed. “Then what should I call you? Aren’t you the leader here? Is it King Frostbite?”
“You may call me Doctor or Chief Frostbite should you wish.”
“You’ve got it, Dr. Frostbite. So will you have to scan us together? Doesn’t look like there’s a lot of room in there.”
Frostbite hummed. “I believe three full scans, one of each of you alone and one with both of you together. I apologize for the size; this is the first time we’ve had to scan two individuals together like this.”
Jason scowled, but didn’t comment. He would do anything to get rid of the interloper.
Before they could start, however, a knock sounded on the door. Frostbite opened it to reveal two more yetis.
“Ah, Silverclaw and Snowfur. Thank you for getting here so quickly.” He grabbed the vials of blood and ectoplasm. “These are the samples I want tested.”
“Of course, Chief. We’ll get to work on them right away.”
“I know you will. Thank you.” Frostbite nodded his farewell. Once the two yetis had left, he shut the door and turned back to Jason and the ghost. “Which of you would like to get scanned first?”
Before Jason could even think of volunteering, the ghost let out a trill and flew to the machine.
Frostbite chuckled. “Very well, young one. I shall begin the process shortly. Please remain still as the scan is in progress.”
Jason watched, curious, as Frostbite pressed a few buttons. The machine whirred to life, blue lines lighting up along the metal. Then the panel Frostbite had pointed out before slowly rotated around the ghost. Five times it completed the circuit before stopping in it’s original position by the wall.
A screen lit up on the wall, also transparent like the tablet, and on it images very much like a human x-ray appeared. Only instead of bones, it showed a ball of red-orange light. Tendrils spread out in the shape of a humanoid body. A thick cord of light extended off the screen. The cord was mostly gray and it’s tendrils wound around the red-orange ball and mixed in with the branches that made up the rest of the ghost’s body.
Frostbite hummed, but didn’t comment further, and Jason didn’t know him well enough to know if it was a good or bad hum. “Sir Jason, it is your turn.”
The ghost flew out of the scanner and Jason entered. “Will it feel like anything?”
The doctor shook his head. “Indeed not. You may hear a humming, but the scan itself will not affect you in any other way.”
“So I just need to stand here for a minute while it goes?”
“Indeed. Simply remain still. Are you ready?”
Jason took a deep breath and stood tall, arms by his side. “Go ahead.”
Frostbite hit a button and the device lit up with the same blue light he’d seen before. Then the scanner began rotating around him. As the yeti had promised, he didn’t feel anything but the hum of the machine.
And soon enough, it settled back into its rest position.
Jason didn’t wait for permission before stepping out and taking a look at the results of the scan. The same cord of light that had been coming off the ghost seemed to be stretching to him. Tendrils of it wrapped around the areas where his heart and brain would be if the scan showed human organs. Thinner tendrils stretched through the rest of his body, but the majority clustered around his heart and brain. His light was mostly gray with the red and orange bleeding in.
Chills ran down his spine. The ghost had integrated himself entirely into Jason’s body. Would it even be possible to get rid of him without killing himself? But could he go on living knowing that the interloper, no, the parasite was tied so closely to him? He’d finally started to move on from his death and the anger!
“Calm down, Sir Jason.” Frostbite’s steady voice cut through his thoughts. “We have one more scan and then I shall explain my theories as to what is going on and how we might address the situation.”
Jason gave a single nod and unclenched his fists. He closed his eyes and took a few seconds to go through a breathing exercise Jazz had taught him. “Fine,” he said when he was sure he wouldn’t start throwing out cursed.
Didn’t stop him from stomping over to the scanner.
Frostbite rested one giant paw on his head for a moment. “I understand this is a lot for you. But I will assist you to the best of my abilities.” He glanced away from Jason towards the interloper. “Both of you.”
Jason frowned but didn’t bother mentioning that that was what he was worried about.
“Now, young Robin. If you could come here as well.”
Frostbite took a moment arranging Jason and the ghost within the scanner. This was the closest Jason had been to the interloper since he learned about his existence and the proximity raised goosebumps on his arm. Why did things like this always have to happen to him? He hated it. He just wanted to go back to arguing with Bruce and trading insults with Tim and pranking Dick. But he couldn’t do that if the ghost of who he’d used to be was following him everywhere.
Jason closed his eyes so he wouldn’t have to see the creature’s stupid uniform or too-young face.
Then the humming started again and Jason could only assume he the scanner was running. He held entirely still, both because the scanner needed it and because he and the ghost were so close that if he moved, they might brush arms or touch.
He held back a shudder and didn’t open his eyes until the humming had stopped.
He couldn’t have said who evacuated the scanner first, they both rushed out quickly and set themselves up on either side of Frostbite while the image loaded.
As predicted, it was as if the two previous scans had been put together. The cord connecting Jason and the ghost was thick and strong. It originated from what Jason could only assume was the ghost’s core and spread out until it latched onto Jason’s brain and heart.
Frostbite hummed again. “I will need to ask both of you some questions that you may not want to answer. I apologize in advance for any discomfort my questions may cause. But let us get comfortable first. Afterwards, I shall explain my suspicions.”
Jason nodded and took a seat on the examination bed that Frostbite gestured to. Robin crossed his legs and appeared to sit in midair. The doctor pulled up a chair for himself and settled in.
Even sitting and with Jason on a high bed, they were roughly eye-to-eye due to the yeti’s large size.
“Young Robin, what do you remember of the time between your death and Sir Jason’s resurrection?”
The ghost, of course, only replied in the trilling language, leaving Jason out of the conversation. Asshole could’ve signed if he wanted to. Jason bit his tongue to keep from saying anything, though.
After a time, Frostbite nodded and turned to Jason. “And now, Sir Jason, I must know how you were brought back to life.”
-----
Ah, Jason really isn't going to like this conversation. None of it is fun, but this conversation will be his least favorite.
And look at Robin being just as petty back! Refusing to bring Jason in on the conversation.
How will they move forward from this?

2023 september - rock sound #300 (fall out boy cover) scans
transcript below cut!
WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE
With the triumphant ‘So Much (For) Stardust’ capturing a whole new generation of fans, Fall Out Boy are riding high, celebrating their past while looking towards a bright future. Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump reflect on recent successes and the lessons learned from two decades of writing and performing together.
WORDS: James Wilson-Taylor PHOTOS: Elliot Ingham
You have just completed a US summer tour that included stadium shows and some of your most ambitious production to date. What were your aims going into this particular show?
PETE: Playing stadiums is a funny thing. I pushed pretty hard to do a couple this time because I think that the record Patrick came up with musically lends itself to that feeling of being part of something larger than yourself. When we were designing the cover to the album, it was meant to be all tangible, which was a reaction to tokens and skins that you can buy and avatars. The title is made out of clay, and the painting is an actual painting. We wanted to approach the show in that way as well. We’ve been playing in front of a gigantic video wall for the past eight years. Now, we wanted a stage show where you could actually walk inside it.
Did adding the new songs from ‘So Much (For) Stardust’ into the setlist change the way you felt about them?
PATRICK: One of the things that was interesting about the record was that we took a lot of time figuring out what it was going to be, what it was going to sound like. We experimented with so many different things. I was instantly really proud. I felt really good about this record but it wasn’t until we got on stage and you’re playing the songs in between our catalogue that I really felt that. It was really noticeable from the first day on this tour - we felt like a different band. There’s a new energy to it. There was something that I could hear live that I couldn’t hear before.
You also revisited a lot of older tracks and b-sides on this tour, including many from the ‘Folie à Deux’-era. What prompted those choices?
PETE: There were some lean years where there weren’t a lot of rock bands being played on pop radio or playing award shows so we tried to play the biggest songs, the biggest versions of them. We tried to make our thing really airtight, bulletproof so that when we played next to whoever the top artist was, people were like, ‘oh yeah, they should be here.’ The culture shift in the world is so interesting because now, maybe rather than going wider, it makes more sense to go deeper with people. We thought about that in the way that we listen to music and the way we watch films. Playing a song that is a b-side or barely made a record but is someone’s favourite song makes a lot of sense in this era. PATRICK: I think there also was a period there where, to Pete’s point, it was a weird time to be a rock band. We had this very strange thing that happened to us, and not a lot of our friends for some reason, where we had a bunch of hits, right? And it didn’t make any sense to me. It still doesn’t make sense to me. But there was a kind of novelty, where we could play a whole set of songs that a lot of people know. It was fun and rewarding for us to do that. But then you run the risk of playing the same set forever. I want to love the songs that we play. I want to care about it and put passion into what we do. And there’s no sustainable way to just do the same thing every night and not get jaded. We weren’t getting there but I really wanted to make sure that we don’t ever get there. PETE: In the origin of Fall Out Boy, what happened at our concerts was we knew how to play five songs really fast and jumped off walls and the fire marshal would shut it down. It was what made the show memorable, but we wanted to be able to last and so we tried to perfect our show and the songs and the stage show and make it flawless. Then you don’t really know how much spontaneity you want to include, because something could go wrong. When we started this tour, and we did a couple of spontaneous things, it opened us up to more. Because things did go wrong and that’s what made the show special. We’re doing what is the most punk rock version of what we could be doing right now.
You seem generally a lot more comfortable celebrating your past success at this point in your career.
PETE: I think it’s actually not a change from our past. I love those records, but I never want to treat them in a cynical way. I never want there to be a wink and a smile where we’re just doing this because it’s the anniversary. This was us celebrating these random songs and we hope people celebrate them with us. There was a purity to it that felt in line with how we’ve always felt about it. I love ‘Folie à Deux’ - out of any Fall Out Boy record that’s probably the one I would listen to. But I just never want it to be done in a cynical way, where we feel like we have to. But celebrating it in a way where there’s the purity of how we felt when we wrote the song originally, I think that’s fucking awesome. PATRICK: Music is a weird art form. Because when you’re an actor and you play a character, that is a specific thing. James Bond always wears a suit and has a gun and is a secret agent. If you change one thing, that’s fine, but you can’t really change all of it. But bands are just people. You are yourself. People get attached to it like it’s a story but it’s not. That was always something that I found difficult. For the story, it’s always good to say, ‘it’s the 20th anniversary, let’s go do the 20th anniversary tour’, that’s a good story thing. But it’s not always honest. We never stopped playing a lot of the songs from ‘Take This To Your Grave’, right? So why would I need to do a 20-year anniversary and perform all the songs back to back? The only reason would be because it would probably sell a lot of tickets and I don’t really ever want to be motivated by that, frankly. One of the things that’s been amazing is that now as the band has been around for a while, we have different layers of audience. I love ‘Folie à Deux’, I do. I love that record. But I had a really personally negative experience of touring on it. So that’s what I think of when I think of that record initially. It had to be brought back to me for me to appreciate it, for me to go, ‘oh, this record is really great. I should be happy with this. I should want to play this.’ So that’s why we got into a lot of the b-sides because we realised that our perspectives on a lot of these songs were based in our feelings and experiences from when we were making them. But you can find new experiences if you play those songs. You can make new memories with them.
You alluded there to the 20th anniversary of ‘Take This To Your Grave’. Obviously you have changed and developed as a band hugely since then. But is there anything you can point to about making that debut record that has remained a part of your process since then?
PETE: We have a language, the band, and it’s definitely a language of cinema and film. That’s maintained through time. We had very disparate music tastes and influences but I think film was a place we really aligned. You could have a deep discussion because none of us were filmmakers. You could say which part was good and which part sucked and not hurt anybody’s feelings, because you weren’t going out to make a film the next day. Whereas with music, I think if we’d only had that to talk about, we would have turned out a different band. PATRICK: ‘Take This To Your Grave’, even though it’s absolutely our first record, there’s an element of it that’s still a work in progress. It is still a band figuring itself out. Andy wasn’t even officially in the band for half of the recording, right? I wasn’t even officially the guitar player for half of the recording. We were still bumbling through it. There was something that popped up a couple times throughout that record where you got these little inklings of who the band really was. We really explored that on ‘From Under The Cork Tree’. So when we talk about what has remained the same… I didn’t want to be a singer, I didn’t know anything about singing, I wasn’t planning on that. I didn’t even plan to really be in this band for that long because Pete had a real band that really toured so I thought this was gonna be a side project. So there’s always been this element within the band where I don’t put too many expectations on things and then Pete has this really big ambition, creatively. There’s this great interplay between the two of us where I’m kind of oblivious, and I don’t know when I’m putting out a big idea and Pete has this amazing vision to find what goes where. There’s something really magical about that because I never could have done a band like this without it. We needed everybody, we needed all four of us. And I think that’s the thing that hasn’t changed - the four of us just being ourselves and trying to figure things out. Listening back to ‘Folie’ or ‘Infinity On High’ or ‘American Beauty’, I’m always amazed at how much better they are than I remember. I listened to ‘MANIA’ the other day, and I have a lot of misgivings about that record, a lot of things I’m frustrated about. But then I’m listening to it and I’m like ‘this is pretty good.’ There’s a lot of good things in there. I don’t know why, it’s kind of like you can’t see those things. It’s kind of amazing to have Pete be able to see those things. And likewise, sometimes Pete has no idea when he writes something brilliant, as a lyricist, and I have to go, ‘No, I’m gonna keep that one, I’m gonna use that.’
On ‘So Much (For) Stardust’, you teamed up with producer Neal Avron again for the first time since 2008. Given how much time has passed, did it take a minute to reestablish that connection or did you pick up where you left off?
PATRICK: It really didn’t feel like any time had passed between us and Neal. It was pretty seamless in terms of working with him. But then there was also the weird aspect where the last time we worked with him was kind of contentious. Interpersonally, the four of us were kind of fighting with each other… as much as we do anyway. We say that and then that myth gets built bigger than it was. We were always pretty cool with each other. It’s just that the least cool was making ‘Folie’. So then getting into it again for this record, it was like no time has passed as people but the four of us got on better so we had more to bring to Neal. PETE: It’s a little bit like when you return to your parents’ house for a holiday break when you’re in college. It’s the same house but now I can drink with my parents. We’d grown up and the first times we worked with Neal, he had to do so much more boy scout leadership, ‘you guys are all gonna be okay, we’re gonna do this activity to earn this badge so you guys don’t fucking murder each other.’ This time, we probably got a different version of Neal that was even more creative, because he had to do less psychotherapy. He went deep too. Sometimes when you’re in a session with somebody, and they’re like, ‘what are we singing about?’, I’ll just be like, ‘stuff’. He was not cool with ‘stuff’. I would get up and go into the bathroom outside the studio and look in the mirror, and think ‘what is it about? How deep are we gonna go?’ That’s a little but scarier to ask yourself. If last time Neal was like a boy scout leader, this time, it was more like a Sherpa. He was helping us get to the summit.
The title track of the album also finds you in a very reflective mood, even bringing back lyrics from ‘Love From The Other Side’. How would you describe the meaning behind that title and the song itself?
PETE: The record title has a couple of different meanings, I guess. The biggest one to me is that we basically all are former stars. That’s what we’re made of, those pieces of carbon. It still feels like the world’s gonna blow and it’s all moving too fast and the wrong things are moving too slow. That track in particular looks back at where you sometimes wish things had gone differently. But this is more from the perspective of when you’re watching a space movie, and they’re too far away and they can’t quite make it back. It doesn’t matter what they do and at some point, the astronaut accepts that. But they’re close enough that you can see the look on their face. I feel like there’s moments like that in the title track. I wish some things were different. But, as an adult going through this, you are too far away from the tether, and you’re just floating into space. It is sad and lonely but in some ways, it’s kind of freeing, because there’s other aspects of our world and my life that I love and that I want to keep shaping and changing. PATRICK: I’ll open up Pete’s lyrics and I just start hearing things. It almost feels effortless in a lot of ways. I just read his lyrics and something starts happening in my head. The first line, ‘I’m in a winter mood, dreaming of spring now’, instantly the piano started to form to me. That was a song that I came close to not sending to the band. When I make demos, I’ll usually wait until I have five or six to send to everybody. I didn’t know if anyone was gonna like this. It’s too moody or it’s not very us. But it was pretty unanimous. Everyone liked that one. I knew this had to end the record. It took on a different life in the context of the whole album. Then on the bridge section, I knew it was going to be the lyrics from ‘Love From The Other Side’. It’s got to come back here. It’s the bookends, but I also love lyrically what it does, you know, ‘in another life, you were my babe’, going back to that kind of regret, which feels different in ‘Love From The Other Side’ than it does here. When the whole song came together, it was the statement of the record.
Aside from the album, you have released a few more recent tracks that have opened you up to a whole new audience, most notably the collaboration with Taylor Swift on ‘Electric Touch’.
PETE: Taylor is the only artist that I’ve met or interacted with in recent times who creates exactly the art of who she is, but does it on such a mass level. So that’s breathtaking to watch from the sidelines. The way fans traded friendship bracelets, I don’t know what the beginning of it was, but you felt that everywhere. We felt that, I saw that in the crowd on our tour. I don’t know Taylor well, but I think she’s doing exactly what she wants and creating exactly the art that she wants to create. And doing that, on such a level, is really awe-inspiring to watch. It makes you want to make the biggest, weirdest version of our thing and put that out there.
Then there was the cover of Billy Joel’s ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire’, which has had some big chart success for you. That must have taken you slightly by surprise.
PATRICK: It’s pretty unexpected. Pete and I were going back and forth about songs we should cover and that was an idea that I had. This is so silly but there was a song a bunch of years ago I had written called ‘Dark Horse’ and then there was a Katy Perry song called ‘Dark Horse’ and I was like, ‘damn it’, you know, I missed the boat on that one. So I thought if we don’t do this cover, somebody else is gonna do it. Let’s just get in the studio and just do it. We spent way more time on those lyrics than you would think because we really wanted to get a specific feel. It was really fun and kind of loose, we just came together in Neal’s house and recorded it in a day. PETE: There’s irreverence to it. I thought the coolest thing was when Billy Joel got asked about it, and he was like, ‘I’m not updating it, that’s fine, go for it.’ I hope if somebody ever chose to update one of ours, we’d be like that. Let them do their thing, they’ll have that version. I thought that was so fucking cool.
It’s also no secret that the sound you became most known for in the mid-2000s is having something of a commercial revival right now. But what is interesting is seeing how bands are building on that sound and changing it.
PATRICK: I love when anybody does anything that feels honest to them. Touring with Bring Me The Horizon, it was really cool seeing what’s natural to them. It makes sense. We changed our sound over time but we were always going to do that. It wasn’t a premeditated thing but for the four of us, it would have been impossible to maintain making the same kind of music forever. Whereas you’ll play with some other bands and they live that one sound. You meet up with them for dinner or something and they’re wearing the shirt of the band that sounds just like their band. You go to their house and they’re playing other bands that sound like them because they live in that thing. Whereas with the four of us and bands like Bring Me The Horizon, we change our sounds over time. And there’s nothing wrong with either. The only thing that’s wrong is if it’s unnatural to you. If you’re AC/DC and all of a sudden power ballads are in and you’re like, ‘Okay, we’ve got to do a power ballad’, that’s when it sucks. But if you’re a thrash metal guy who likes Celine Dion then yeah, do a power ballad. Emo as a word doesn’t mean anything anymore. But if people want to call it that, if the emo thing is back or having another life again, if that’s what’s natural to an artist, I think the world needs more earnest art. If that’s who you are, then do it. PETE: It would be super egotistical to think that the wave that started with us and My Chemical Romance and Panic! At The Disco has just been circling and cycling back. I  remember seeing Nikki Sixx at the airport and he was like, ‘Oh, you’re doing a flaming bass? Mine came from a backpack.’ It keeps coming back but it looks different. Talking to Lil Uzi Vert and Juice WRLD when he was around, it’s so interesting, because it’s so much bigger than just emo or whatever. It’s this whole big pop music thing that’s spinning and churning, and then it moves on, and then it comes back with different aspects and some of the other stuff combined. When you’re a fan of music and art and film, you take different stuff, you add different ingredients, because that’s your taste. Seeing the bands that are up and coming to me, it’s so exciting, because the rules are just different, right? It’s really cool to see artists that lean into the weirdness and lean into a left turn when everyone’s telling you to make a right. That’s so refreshing. PATRICK: It’s really important as an artist gets older to not put too much stock in your own influence. The moment right now that we’re in is bigger than emo and bigger than whatever was happening in 2005. There’s a great line in ‘Downton Abbey’ where someone was asking the Lord about owning this manor and he’s like, ‘well, you don’t really own it, there have been hundreds of owners and you are the custodian of it for a brief time.’ That’s what pop music is like. You just have the ball for a minute and you’re gonna pass it on to somebody else.
We will soon see you in the UK for your arena tour. How do you reflect on your relationship with the fans over here?
PETE: I remember the first time we went to the UK, I wasn’t prepared for how culturally different it was. When we played Reading & Leeds and the summer festivals, it was so different, and so much deeper within the culture. It was a little bit of a shock. The first couple of times we played, I was like, ‘Oh, my God, are we gonna die?’ because the crowd was so crazy, and there was bottles. Then when we came back, we thought maybe this is a beast to be tamed. Finally, you realise it’s a trading of energy. That made the last couple of festivals we played so fucking awesome. When you really realise that the fans over there are real fans of music. It’s really awesome and pretty beautiful. PATRICK: We’ve played the UK now more than a lot of regions of the states. Pretty early on, I just clicked with it. There were differences, cultural things and things that you didn’t expect. But it never felt that different or foreign to me, just a different flavour… PETE: This is why me and Patrick work so well together (laughs).  PATRICK: Well, listen; I’m a rainy weather guy. There is just things that I get there. I don’t really drink anymore all that much. But I totally will have a beer in the UK, there’s something different about every aspect of it, about the ordering of it, about the flavour of it, everything, it’s like a different vibe. The UK audience seemed to click with us too. There have been plenty of times where we felt almost more like a UK band than an American one. There have been years where you go there and almost get a more familial reaction than you would at home. Rock Sound has always been a part of that for us. It was one of the first magazines to care about us and the first magazine to do real interviews. That’s the thing, you would do all these interviews and a lot of them would be like ‘so where did the band’s name come from?’ But Rock Sound took us seriously as artists, maybe before some of us did. That actually made us think about who we are and that was a really cool experience. I think in a lot of ways, we wouldn’t be the band we are without the UK, because I think it taught us a lot about what it is to be yourself.

I Choose You
Nyx x Reader (Eris’ daughter)
Summary: Nyx and Eris’ daughter have always felt an attraction towards each other, even if they can never actually be together.
Word Count: 4,086
Warnings: Swearing
A/N: I made this to fill my forbidden fantasies between Nyx and Eris’ daughter, but if you want more from these characters, check out All That Matters! It gives a different story line for these two! Thanks for reading and as always, let me know what you think!!
——————————————————————————
I suck in a breath as the strings on the back of my corset are pulled taut. Why I still have to wear corsets is beyond me, but I’ve learned to do what I’m told.
My father is High Lord of the Autumn Court. Which means as his daughter, there are specific rules I must follow and certain events I must attend.
Tonight we are attending an event at the Night Court, something about falling stars. The Night Court is where he is from. We’ve been in the same circles our entire lives, attending the same events and meetings. He’s absolutely perfect in every way, except he is the heir to the Night Court. A.K.A. my mortal enemy.
That’s a cringy way to put it but that’s exactly what it is. Our fathers only recently have started to get along with each other. I’ve heard stories of what my father did to the other High Lord's cousin Mor, but I’d rather not think about that right now. My father has shown me and my brother nothing but love my whole life, and I refuse to believe otherwise.
I hear my father’s signature knock on my door and I go over to open it.
“You look lovely darling.” He says pulling me in for a hug, careful not to mess up my hair. “Are you ready to go?”
I pull away and go to look in the mirror. My bright red hair is perfectly curled and is surprisingly soft for how much hairspray is in it. It’s in perfect contrast to my dark forest green dress. It has long sleeves and a modest neckline but still shows off the curves of my chest before it flares out around my waist. I’ve gone with a light makeup look today, letting my freckles shine through. My father meets my gaze in the mirror.
“I’m ready.” I say, spinning around to face him.
“Perfect.” He replies, grabbing my hand to winnow us away.
We arrive at the front door of a mansion and I see shadows shuffling around in the windows. It looks like there aren't a lot of people here, maybe they are coming later?
Just before my father knocks, the door swings open, revealing the High Lord and Lady of the Night Court. They are dressed in full black head to toe, but such a depressing color, it looks amazing on them.
“Welcome to our home! Happy Starfall!” They say, stepping aside to let us in, my father goes first and I trail behind.
The High Lord extends his arm and leads us to what I presume is the living room.
“Everyone is just through there.” He says pointing down a hallway. “Don’t be shy, I’m sure you’ll find some familiar faces.”
As I make my way down, I see him. Gods he looks amazing. Oddly, his suit is the same color as my dress. It was unintentional, but I couldn’t be more thrilled. He’s looking at me with an expression that says he’s excited to see me too.
We’ve never got to be alone with each other, there are always too many people around. After stealing a few glances, one of us gets pulled away. I can’t explain this feeling I have for him. I know we can’t be together. but that only makes me want him more.
“Will your brother be joining us as well?.” Rhys pulls my thoughts away from Nyx.
“No. Unfortunately my brother had other obligations tonight.” I lie. He’s sneaking away with his girlfriend that no one but myself knows about. I can’t help but feel jealous, he always gets everything I want. Our father has a ball and chain that ties me down, I can only go so far before he yanks me back.
That’s why everything about Nyx excites me, he’s got everything I want. He is everything I want.
I’m offered a glass of wine and gladly accept. I’m normally not a big fan of wine, but today I need a little bit of ‘liquid courage’ as they say.
Wandering around this mansion feels wrong, so I make my way towards the balcony. I peer out the window to make sure no one else is there and open the door.
I’m suddenly grateful my dress has long sleeves as I feel the cold air against my skin. I rest my arms on the railing to look out into Velaris. I hate to admit it, but this city is beautiful.
I hear the door behind me quietly open and close. I know who it is without having to turn around.
“It’s beautiful, don’t you think?” I ask when he stands next to me.
“It is, yes.” He replies. I look up to find him already looking down at me. I’m not the best at keeping eye contact, but I can’t bring myself to look away. His eyes are a striking blue and it makes my heart skip a beat to know that he’s looking at me. I glance behind me to make sure no one sees us together.
“I’ve been meaning to talk to you.” He says, shifting a little closer to me. I turn slightly to face him and he places his hand dangerously close to mine on the railing.
“So have I.” I smile at him. We both look down to our hands as I slowly bring mine overtop of his.
“Do you- do you feel it too?” He asks. I look back to him questioningly.
“Feel what?” He looks shocked at first, but then sadness takes over his expression.
“Never mind.” He looks back to the sky. Feeling a bit bold, I place my hand under his chin and turn his head to look at me.
“Tell me, please. What do you feel?”
He looks down at my lips and back up to my eyes. I find myself doing the same. My boldness must have rubbed off on him because the next thing I know, he is pulling me close.
Then he presses his lips to mine. My shock only lasts half a second and then I’m kissing him back. I wrap my hand around his neck to play with his hair. He moans into the kiss, then his hands travel down my back, stopping at my waist.
I reluctantly pull back after a while for a breath of air and rest my head on his chest. He chuckles lightly, causing me to look up at him. “What?” I giggle back.
He shakes his head, still smiling. “I just can’t believe this is happening.” I pull him back down into a kiss.
“Me neither.” I whisper against his lips.
Moments later, I see a flash of light from the corner of my eye. I must have a confused look on my face because Nyx turns to face us towards the sky. “This is Starfall, my favorite holiday. Some believe they are spirits, traveling to return home. Others just see falling stars and are amazed by their beauty.” He pulls my back to his front, I lean my head back to rest on his shoulder. “What do you believe?”
He looks down and meets my gaze. “I’d like to believe that they are spirits, but I have no proof.” I nod and place a kiss on his chin.
“That sounds beautiful, Nyx. Absolutely beautiful.”
“I’ll have to go back soon, my family will wonder where I am.” He kisses my head and regretfully releases me. “I’ll see you in there.” Then he’s gone.
I stay there looking out at the sky for a couple more minutes. I just had my first kiss and it was with Nyx. I feel like I’m walking on a cloud, until I remember who we are and why we can’t be together. We have to figure something out. I need to be with him. Even if both of our families disown us. I can’t stay away any more.
Soon after returning to my father’s side he announces that we will be leaving. I look around for Nyx, but can’t find him. I mask my disappointment, say goodbye to everyone and thank Feyre and Rhys for inviting us over.
“The next ones at our place.” My dad says with a wink at Rhys and winnows us back home.

Two Months Later
Nyx’s POV
I give myself one look in the mirror and head downstairs to meet up with my family. As I come down the stairs, Uncle Cassian whistles at me. “Daaaamn, Nyxie Wyxie, who are you trying to impress?”
I laugh it off nonchalantly and move over to my parents.
“You look so handsome, Nyx. Don’t listen to Cassian, he’s just trying to rile you up.” My mother says. I give her a smile and sit down as we wait for everyone to get here.
It’s been over 2 months since I’ve last seen her and I couldn’t be more excited. I had hoped during Starfall that she felt the mating bond, but it doesn’t seem like she did. Even after we kissed, and my gods it was amazing. I don’t know if that was her first kiss, but it was mine and I couldn’t wipe the stupid smile off my face for 2 weeks. All I’ve been able to think about is her.
So yeah, Cassian, maybe I am trying to impress someone. She has no idea that she’s my mate and even if she did, her father would never let us be together.
I’ve known that she is my mate for almost 2 years, but I couldn’t do anything about it. I have a plan for tonight though, I just need everything to be perfect.
“Okay so here’s the plan.” My dad says, drawing my attention. “It’s a ball, so there will be lots of people dancing around. It will be easy to lose sight of each other, but under no circumstances should we let that happen. Understand?” He says sternly. We all reply with either a yes or a nod. “Great! Now let’s go.” He grabs onto my mothers hand and she grabs mine, winnowing us out.
Loud music fills my ears as people push past me to get to the ballroom, my family and I follow. Over the years coming to these events, I’ve been one of a handful of kids my age. Y/N included. She’s always been the first thing I look for when I get inside. Now as I look around, it takes me no time to find her.
She’s looking around the room as well and finally her eyes land on me. Gods she’s beautiful. Everything about her is stunning. She gives me a big smile and eyes the door to her left. I’m not good at hints, but that one’s pretty obvious, so I gave her a smile back and nod. She walks towards the door and I get a full view of her dress. Dark green, her signature color, with gold lace trims. Her auburn hair is in an intricate braid that’s resting on her right shoulder.
Once she’s inside the door, I count to 60. A full minute might be too much time to make her wait, but I need to be sure my family doesn’t see us together. When I get to 56, I start walking towards the door. I look around to find my parents chatting with other High Lords, Cassian and Nesta dancing together and Azriel standing with his back facing me. Perfect. I pick up my pace and open the door she went through.
It opens into what I assume is a storage room. As I close the door I feel tiny hands wrap around my waist.
“Hey handsome.” She whispers. I spin around in her grasp and put my hands around her waist.
“Hi beautiful.” I pull her close and lift her up to place a kiss on her lips. She moves to wrap her arms around my neck and plays with the back of my hair. I melt when she does this, I love it so much. I can’t control the moan that comes out as she arches her body into mine.
I move to kiss behind her ear, and now it’s her turn to moan. I would give anything to keep that sound on repeat in my head. She continues playing with my hair as I kiss my way down her neck. “Nyx.” She says in my ear in a serious tone, that causes me to stop and look at her face. Scared that I did something wrong, I take a step back. She grabs my hands and has a panicked expression on her face.
“Please don’t leave. I don’t want you to go.” She says. I release a breath and cup her face with my hands.
“Then I won’t.” I promise as I rub my thumbs along her freckle filled cheeks and kiss her again.
She places her head on my chest and I move my hand to cradle the back of her head. “I mean like, ever.” She says and looks up at me. “I don’t ever want to be away from you again.” She starts to cry, I quickly wipe away her tears and pull her closer to me.
I know I need to respond, but I can’t think of what to say. I don’t want to be away from her again either. These past 2 months have been nothing but agony. I want nothing more than to run away with her right now and never return. But we both know we can’t do that. Not yet, anyway. I lift her chin up with my finger and press a quick kiss to her nose which causes her to giggle, just like I wanted.
“I can’t promise you a future, no matter how much I wish I could. What I can promise is the present, and right now I don’t want to do anything but be here with you.” I whisper and she pulls me down into another kiss.
This one is more intense than our previous ones, more needy. I push her up against the wall and lift her into my arms. She wraps her legs around my waist and bites my bottom lip while her fingers begin unbuttoning my shirt.
She gets to the third when the door behind us slams open. I gently drop her to the ground and turn around so she can hide behind me.
“NYX!” I hear my father yell.
“Y/N!” Eris yells from behind him.
My father comes over to me to pull me away from Y/N. Eris rushes over to her and grabs onto her arm. She looks at me scared and it kills me that there’s nothing I can do about it. “Please dad, just let me explain.” She pleads to her father.
“You can explain at the house.” He snarls and winnows her away.
“Noooo!” I fight out of my fathers grasp to try and reach her before they are gone, but it’s too late. I fall to the ground where she was and put my head in my hands.
“Get up Nyx. This is ridiculous.” My father says. I whip my head around and give him the death glare he deserves. “She means nothing to you. She’s the daughter of Autumn, son, she is destined to be your enemy.”
My mom joins me on the floor and rubs my back. “Nyx it will be okay, you’ll find someone else.”
“I don’t want someone else! I want her!” I snap back.
“As long as I’m alive that is never going to happen.” My father hisses. I stand up and move to be face to face with him.
“SHE’S MY MATE!! Did you know that? No, of course you didn’t. She doesn’t even know yet and still she wants to be with me. Do you remember what it was like before mom knew? That’s how I feel right now. It would be nice to have my father be there for me. Why do you think I never told you?” I scream out, he gives me a shocked expression. I bolt past the rest of my family before anyone has a chance to stop me.
Y/N’s POV
I’m still sobbing as I lay on my bed 30 minutes later. When we winnowed home I ran upstairs ignoring anything my father had to say. His knock on my door now is quiet, almost fearful. Good. This conversation isn’t going to be easy for either of us.
“Sweetheart, can I come in?” He asks from behind the door. I don’t respond, hoping he will take the hint and leave me alone. Instead, he pushes my door open and sits beside me on my bed. He breathes a heavy sigh.
“I wanted to apologize.” He starts and I jolt upright. I was NOT expecting that.
“W-what?” I ask, not believing my ears.
He nods. “I wanted to apologize to you. I spoke with Rhysand a couple minutes ago and he told me that you two are mates and I……..” He keeps talking, but nothing he says is registering in my brain.
“M-mates? Nyx and I are mates?” I ask.
“Yeah- oh you didn’t- you didn’t know that?” He asks. I shake my head, still struggling to understand what is happening. He pulls me into a hug and rocks me back and forth.
“Oh I’m so sorry sweetheart. I- I thought you knew.”
“Wait. Does Nyx know?” I sit up and look at him, he nods. I’m thinking over our past interactions trying to put the pieces together. That’s what the pinching was. Was that what he was asking if I felt? Why didn’t he just tell me?
“I really am sorry. It’s just that Nyx is the heir of the Night Court and you are my only daughter. I didn’t want to see you together, but since you are mates we will make it work. I promise.” He says.
“Can I go see him?” I wipe away my tears with the back of my hand.
“Of course you can.” He gives me a smile and winnows me to the Night Court.
I wanted to make myself look presentable after all the crying I just did, but I’m running up to Nyx’s room as soon as we get there. I don’t know how I know which room is his, I just feel it. I stop abruptly outside of his door and I’m about to knock when it swings open.
Standing in front of me is the most stunning male I’ve ever seen. He looks like he’s been crying as much as I have. It breaks my heart to see him like that and based on the look he gives me, he feels the same.
I jump up into his arms and he walks us backwards into his room. He kicks the door closed behind us and walks over to his bed. Nyx gently sets me down on his mattress and kneels before me. I place my hands on either side of his face as he rests his hands over mine.
“We’re mates.” I sob out. He looks scared of what I’m about to say, so I give him a smile to try and ease his nerves. He gives me a shy nod.
“Is that okay with you?”
“It’s perfect.”
He releases a sigh and pulls me into his arms. “We need to talk about some things.” He says.
“I know.” I pull back to look at his beautiful face. “I choose you, Nyx. I will always choose you. I don’t care what our parents think. Even if we live in a shack in the middle of nowhere. I just want to be with you.”
He wipes away my tears and looks at me happily. “Are you sure? Because I could definitely find us a shack in the middle of nowhere.” He jokes while peppering my cheeks with kisses. He rubs away his tears with the back of his hand and gives a soft chuckle.
“What?” I ask, giggling at him.
“Nothing, I just am so fucking happy right now. I don’t really know what to do with myself.” He laughs, but his face changes to show that he’s nervous. “Could you stay tonight?”
“Do you have something I could borrow?” I ask, gesturing down to my very uncomfortable dress. He fumbles around in his closet before returning with an oversized t-shirt and some boxer shorts. Nyx hands them to me and shows me where his bathroom is, leaving me to change.
His shirt fits me like a dress, it comes down so far you can even tell that I’m wearing shorts. I step back into his bedroom and find that he’s already laying down in bed. He pats the space next to him and I giggle as I jump under the covers.
He pulls my back to his front and wraps his arm around my waist. He places a kiss on my shoulder and says “I choose you too. I will always choose you.”
I smile and snuggle closer. “I know.”
I struggle to keep my eyes open, not wanting to miss a second of this moment, but I can already tell that this is going to be the best sleep I’ve ever had.
2 YEARS LATER
I stand up from my vanity and head over to my closet to get dressed. Today is Nyx and I’s anniversary and he’s taking me on a date, but he won't tell me where we are going. The only thing he has told me is what to wear. I pick up the beautifully wrapped box and undo the bow to reveal the most stunning dark green dress.
I turn towards the mirror to see myself. Not only do I look beautiful, I feel beautiful. That feeling isn’t a familiar one, but it’s beginning to grow on me. I’m so distracted looking at myself that I don’t notice my mate walking up behind me.
He wraps his large hands around my waist and rests his chin on my shoulder. “You look gorgeous, darling. Are you ready to go?” He asks and spins me around.
“You don’t look too bad yourself, so let's go before I ruin this new dress you bought me.” I tease and give him a kiss. He chuckles and winnows us away.
We arrive in an empty ballroom and I look over at him questioningly. “I figured we should have another chance at attending a ball together.” He says shyly, taking my hand to lead me towards the dance floor. Suddenly, classical music begins to play and Nyx places a kiss on my knuckles.
“May I have this dance, My Lady?” He asks with a smirk.
“I’d be honored to dance with you, My Lord.” I reply and he pulls me close. My hand finds room on his shoulder as his find my waist. We slowly sway back and forth for a couple of songs before Nyx pulls back.
“Y/N, on this night 2 years ago I promised you something, and I told you that there was another thing that I couldn’t promise you. I’d like to change that tonight.” He begins and I already feel tears building in my eyes.
“Back then I said I couldn’t promise you a future, but that I could promise you the present.” He swallows and moves onto one knee before me, “Y/N Vanserra, I would be honored if you would allow me to promise you a future, our future.” He pulls out a small box from his jacket pocket.
“Will you marry me?”
I throw myself into his arms. “Yes!”
He picks me up and kisses me while we spin around. He grabs onto my left hand and slides the most beautiful ring onto my fourth finger. He pushes a strand of hair behind my ear, then wipes away my tears with his thumb. “I love you so much, Y/N.”
“I love you too.” I rest my face on his chest as we dance away the night. Our lives may not be perfect, but we chose how to live our lives. We chose each other.

What if we ask for receipts?
(This post is inspired by some recent posts from some moots on Tumblr)
We spend all day defending Jimin and JK's bond.
All day, all the time, always in the position of defendant, against anons here, trolls on twitter, and in general, hordes of annoying people.
Well then, let's see what happens if we are now the prosecutor, and not the defense lawyer
Let's see where the hell your receipts are:
- Love expressions: how many times have your favorites declared that they love each other in different kinds of language?. And I'm not talking about the "I love you" that are given to friends for a specific situation (like Hobi leaving for the ms)... or weird hand signals, you know a lot about that and symbols... but big signs of love…
Like suddenly this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or this:
undefined
youtube
 Or this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Intimacy displays: have your favorites given each other hickeys? (this is important...u know I love hickeys)
Tumblr media
Have they flirted in front of thousands of people? (and watch out! because here the line between fan entertainment (I won't say the damm word, which I know you don't like) and genuine flirting is very subtle, but distinctive. This is flirting, for instance 😌
Do they've sucked each other's ear in front of thousands of people?
Tumblr media
(Or do they have some kink for ears?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Have they stuck their D's in front of thousands of people?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(my God, do you realize what they won't do in front of thousands of people)?
- Show the evidence that your favorites live or have lived together (not in the dorms era back in 2018): let's see... let me think... how many times have they suspiciously shared a car, when we didn't know where they lived extra officially?
Or do have they been at 4 am in the morning together alone, celebrating billboard or actually delivering hickeys?
Tumblr media
Or in the deed of the purchase of a house appears the address where the other lives (91).?
- Samples of tension or awkwardness beyond explanation: look, we have so many receipts here that I don't even know where to start... just look at Jimin's recent bomb and see JK's visit... and well, there it is... the awkwardness of some of their interactions... sometimes it makes you want not to look... sometimes it makes you feel embarrassed... I sometimes think they're going to screw up at any moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Proof of inside jokes that show that they actually WATCH a lot of content together. Do you have any of your own?
Tumblr media
- Demonstration of knowing certain personal information. Here I'm sorry, but again we have a lot of receipts. Tae had no idea that JK did a 3 hour vlive. Or Hobi also didn't know about Jimin's "time" (10:13). Instead, Jimin sees all of JK's vlives...and vice versa (as we’ve been able to check recently) and they know most of things they have done, or where they are at each moment (they even know what happened at bae's grandma's birthday)
Tumblr media
And now...let’s see and talk about YOUR receipts:
made-up dinners out alone and selfies in bathrooms (not to mention other things you say happen in the bathrooms)
trips for which there is no concrete proof, or which are clearly BTS trips
any close-up, or photo, or mention on vlive....
each pic on Instagram
a look
breathing the same air
stepping on the same ground
And, so far the most robust, outings at their free time. We had in the past months vkook, jihope, hobikook, or vhope outings.
This is what most people are claiming lately. Maybe it is our fault, for having repeated so many times that Jimin and JK were the ones who most "hanged out" together..... now it seems that this mantra is turning against us.....
Well..... NOOOO.... I object your honour!
Because jikook have literally told us recently that they are both super homely. Which I understand. Not just because of their personalities or that they like it, but because outside, they can't be totally free lately.
Because if JK is constantly being stalked in his country - just look at where he officially lives - and also, as we believe, jikook are a couple, they have a lot to protect and I think they know that the most intimacy and security they have is at home.
On the other hand, they already know what happens when they are seen in a certain location: that restaurant ends up becoming a crowded place of jikookers or k-army. So, if they go out, they're going to be very careful and most likely they'll go to trusted places, where they don't post their signatures on IG. So, my friends,…WE WON'T KNOW about it! Unless they want to, or go somewhere more public and new.
And then again, Jimin has been busy with his album and hasn't been seen with anyone. NO ONE. The only exception, Hobi's birthday and the drink they had last Sunday or Monday (as a farewell). And we know this because they wanted to tell us... because if they hadn't, or posted any pictures, there would be no receipts from them either (of course! who of us could have been at Hobi's house on his birthday to know?).
But even with all this reasoning … the truth is that friends hang out and that does not mean they are dating. Hanging out doesn’t work with jikook either by itself. Other things must happen (see above 👆 ☺️)
So your receipts, imo, are either conspicuous by their absence or rather lacking in robustness.
Ours, on the other hand, are terrific! Stop asking for more! We've justified enough.
It must be pitiful to ship any “couple" whose ultimate proof of confirmation that they are together depends so much on another couple failing to provide certain evidence that confirms they actually are...the audacity!!!

The Lead Up
summary: the band grows closer together during their first few months at the X-factor
Worth The Risk Masterlist
Tumblr media
Living with the boys was truly the best. They didn’t treat you any differently because you were a girl, it seemed like they tried a little harder to rough you up because you were a girl, and you always met their match.
There was around a month from boot camp- where the band was formed- from the first episode of the season, and another month after that where the episode that showed you forming would air.
During those months Simon had become a quick father to the group. He had a soft spot for you and everyone could tell. Through the time you were there you had some ups and downs. Your performance at Simon’s house was rough as Louis had arrived only 5 minutes prior and all of you were nervous that he wouldn't make it, or scared, as he was in hospital. You were both. Louis and you had become very close in the short time, it wasn’t like siblings, you didn’t know what it was, but you and Louis liked it so it didn’t matter.  You and all the boys had really grown together. You, Harry, and Niall seemed to gravitate towards each other simply because you had all met prior to formation.
“My head is saying it's a risk,” Simon paused looking at you all. “But my heart is saying you deserve a shot, and that’s why it’s been difficult. So I’ve made a decision.” You all stood there arms wrapped around each other, waiting anxiously. “I’ve gone with my heart, you’re through.” It hit you all immediately as you jumped up and hugged each other before sprinting to Simon who was laughing softly. The boys followed you as you turned it into a group hug. No one could see through their tears of pure joy. You held Harry as he cried into his arm knowing exactly how he felt.
A day after the bootcamp episode aired you Louis and Harry decided to do a twitcam video. You had to admit Harry looked awfully cute with his beanie on. You sat on the opposite end of the bed of Louis before he was squishing your cheeks making you come over to him. The stream was filled with prank calls, Louis yelling and singing, and lots of laughing.
A few weeks later you had moved into the X-factor house. You had Beverly come and help move your stuff from the house into the new one- her college courses wouldn’t start for another month-. One thing you loved was that the boys wanted you to bunk with them, and you gladly agreed. There were three sets of bunk beds for you to sleep on. You opted for a bottom bunk and Beverly bought you a ‘privacy’ cover that would block out the view into your bunk, and you actually appreciated that.
Bentley was back at college so you didn’t see a lot of him, but you made sure to talk all the time. Nan and Pap ended up opening the bakery they always wanted and you were beyond estactic to see the photo - among with many others of you guys- in the letter they sent you.
Bentley did keep his promise and got your tag number tattooed across his left collar bone. He mailed some polaroids of you and him and you and Beverly to put up wherever you could. Of course there was insistent teasing from Liam and Louis about you and Bentley’s relationship, but it was truly platonic. He was your best friend.
It was crazy how much time had passed between the start of the show and now you guys were headed into the live shows. You had all decided to do some Video Diaries to let the fans in on how you guys were doing on show.
“Hi, we're One Direction.” Louis started the video sitting next to you. “This is our video diary.” you said after him. “You can come back here every week to find out what we’ve been up to, how we're feeling and everything that's going on.” Somehow during Harry's speech Niall and Louis started messing with his hair and you couldn't help but join. You were all essing sound until Liam got back on track.
“Alright what's happening this week? We've moved into the x-factor house which is really exciting and I’ve been waiting a long time for this." Everyone smiled at Liam as he had been through this before. “We've got a decent room in the house. It's not the biggest-” it seemed with that that everyone voiced their opinion on how bad the room was. “It's okay because we're all enjoying ourselves and all having a laugh.” You looked up to Zayn as he spoke, resting your head on his knees. “Sharing a room with 5 of your best friends.” Harry jokingly sapped and the rest of you joined in on mockery.
“We’ve been practising hard, uh, it's a good song. You lot like it?” they all voiced their opinions to you and you continued. “Yeah it's a good song, we really like the song.”
“I think we’ve had a lot of preparation now, the times ticking by and we just can't wait to get on the stage. Show everyone what we can do as a group.” you watched louis as he spoke with a small smile. “If you’ve got any questions to ask us just leave them down below and we'll get back to yah.” Liam closed out with all you pointing to the imaginary border below you. “See you guys.” Harry waved and you all waved shouting goodbyes.

“Rose is actually happy in a parallel universe with a half-human Doctor.” - Russell T. Davies
Hello, Whovians — we’re excited to announce the #BringBackTentoo movement!
Sign the petition
In July 2008, millions of viewers tuned in to watch ‘Journey’s End’; where the Doctor and Rose were left hand-in-hand on Bad Wolf Bay.
While fandom has remained active, continuing to generate endless works inspired by this iconic pairing, there's sadly been little official content from the people who launched the ship!
Nonetheless, our devotion remains unwavering. We persist, loving the OTP; ceaselessly spreading love and fan-made content worldwide!
The purpose of this movement is to show there is still an audience that is very interested in revisiting these two. One that would love to see the Doctor and Rose together again, on-screen or off, living their best lives in Pete’s World.
Regardless of whether it’s a spin-off, comics, audio adventures, or — and this, we believe, is crucial — anything at all, we would just love to have them back in some way. We’ve realized that perhaps there hasn’t been enough collective buzz to bring this into reality, which is why we’re looking to rally up as much support as we can.
Already with us? Sign the petition! Our petition will be emailed directly to the powers that be; including Russell T Davies, Big Finish, the BBC, and more.
Have questions? Doubts? Need a little more convincing? Then read on…
Why now?
Because there’s never been a more perfect time for it.
Already, Russell’s return has been bringing former fans back in droves. Everyone’s waiting with bated breath for RTD2 and the sixtieth anniversary; plus Ncuti, David, and Catherine. With so many fans dipping back into the Doctor Who world, why not strike while the iron’s hot?
At the fifteen-year mark, it might never be this “hot” again!
Plus… nostalgia is a massive market.
Tumblr media
A return of Tentoo and Rose after all of these years would be the perfect cherry on top of all of it: closure for so many fans, as well as validation for the only happy ending a Doctor-and-companion pairing ever got in Doctor Who.
And don’t forget — fan campaigns work, especially in the social media age!
A spin-off — too much?
As much as we’d love to see David and Billie back on-screen together as the proper Meta-Crisis Doctor and Rose, we understand that we already have David coming back in a big way, as well as Ncuti Gatwa — our brand new Doctor. It’s a big, BIG ask, trying to get a spin-off out of this. We recognize that.
However, as famished fans who are living off of little more than canonical crumbs and dreams, we will greedily devour anything we can get.
Such as:
More Big Finish audio adventures
Big Finish has done incredible work for Doctor Who, including one of the only official ‘glimpses’ we’ve gotten into Pete’s World: A couple of short audios featuring Tentoo and Jackie.
Tumblr media
Big Finish understands and respects these characters, their relationships, and the overall source material. They’ve shown time and time again that they’re more than capable of doing justice to Doctor Who!
Audio adventures with a focus on the Meta-Crisis Doctor and Rose Tyler would be fantastic. Anything from their adventures with Torchwood and/or UNIT, imaginings of their life with a TARDIS, etc — there are endless possibilities!
Comic book adventures
In 2021, Titan Comics published ‘Empire of the Wolf’, a lovely comic book that gifted us with the best glimpse we’ve ever had into the lives of the Doctor and Rose in Pete’s World:
Tumblr media
It was a beautiful, if brief imagining of these two (and includes their daughter), but even so, the vast majority of the story involves Rose being trapped with the Eighth and Eleventh Doctors. We only get a few pages of Tentoo.
Comics would be an excellent way to dive into the parallel world again!
Novels
There are loads of Doctor Who novels with amazing stories about Rose and the Tenth Doctor (like 'The Stone Rose' by Jacqueline Rayner). But, here's the thing: there's just one official novel that dives into the whole Metacrisis and Rose relationship... And guess what? Fans are really craving content that stays true to RTD and Julie Gardner's original vision for this couple.
The good news is, there are tons of talented writers out there who would jump at the chance to create legit Meta-Crisis stories, and some would even do it for free!
An animated series
We recognize that this would be a tremendous undertaking, but imagine: You can do incredible things with animation that aren’t possible with film. It would appeal to fans of all ages, and Billie and David have more than proven themselves to be excellent voice actors. There are all sorts of stories that could be created in this medium.
But let’s say we went with the first choice…
A spin-off/miniseries
RTD has been very vocal about his plans for spin-offs. Billie and David are willing, and it hasn’t been so long that the pairing has lost relevance… Although, in Doctor Who, does anything ever really lose relevance? The show is known for bringing back old characters. Enemies, companions… Doctors:
Tumblr media
It’s obvious that David seems to have no issue with playing the Doctor. Furthermore, even Billie Piper has recently expressed interest in a spin-off!
In 2019, she told Doctor Who magazine:
“I would like to see a one-off dark comedy about Rose and the Doctor in the parallel universe”.
Then, even more recently in December 2022, she told Buzzfeed [on returning to Doctor Who]:
“If it was like four episodes all shot in London, then yeah, I’d be like a rat-up-a-drainpipe for that.”
Four episodes of Tentoo and Rose in London? What could be more perfect than that?
Wouldn’t a spin-off overshadow Ncuti Gatwa?
It doesn’t have to! If a spin-off were to happen, it wouldn’t necessarily have to happen immediately — it can happen after Ncuti has been established as the Doctor, and after RTD has re-established himself as showrunner. We’d just like for it to be part of the conversation, and let those in charge know that people are interested.
So… What about the people who didn’t like the ending?
Yes, there are some naysayers out there. People who refuse to acknowledge Tentoo’s legitimacy as the Doctor; others who refuse to believe that Rose could ever be truly happy with him, and vice versa.
This, sadly, is willful ignorance. Not only has Russell T. Davies, the man who wrote Journey’s End — who created Tentoo and Rose — confirmed that they're happy; the Doctor himself, David Tennant, will be the first person to tell you that those two are blissfully shagging their lives away at all times. And god bless him for it.
We’ve come to find that a lot of people who aren’t on board with the ending just didn’t understand it, which is fine — what better way to understand this pairing than by seeing more of them?
On that note…
How can I help?
Sign the petition!
Petitions are old school, but they are proven to be effective at affecting change, even in today’s world. We can preach to the ends of the earth about how much we want to bring these two back, but without numbers to back it up, the prospect is null and void.
Don’t just like this post — please reblog!
This is a grassroots effort that is counting on the power of fans to help spread the word. Unlike most social media platforms, there is no algorithm on Tumblr. Likes do nothing for visibility, so please reblog to make sure as many people see this as possible!
Participate in Tentoo x Rose Month
This is a multi-medium fan event for creating content of the OTP throughout all of July! All works will be featured on the @tentoorosemonth2023 page, with certain works even shared on the BringBackTentoo Instagram.
Buy the already-existing content
If you haven’t already, buy the ‘Empire of the Wolf’ comic. Buy the Big Finish audios ‘The Siege of Big Ben’ and ‘Flight Into Hull!’. Show these fantastic creators that we will gladly consume any content about these two that we can get!
Spread the word
Know anyone who likes Doctor Who? Any former fandom friends who might’ve outgrown all of this, but would enjoy more Tentoo/Rose content? Or maybe even just a random IRL friend who supports your obsessions? Link them to the petition!
Join the movement by following this page and our Instagram (which is brand new, give it time to grow ♥️). Keep on creating content, using #BringBackTentoo to tag any of your fanart, well-wishes, or whatever you like across platforms — just please be sure to keep it positive!
Feel free to DM/ask if you have any other questions, concerns, or ideas that weren’t touched upon in this post.
And please, for goodness' sake, be kind. This is a labor of love inspired by passionate fans and creators who just want to see our OTP again. ♥️

Hi, I hope I sent this in time! This is for Valentines Day Letter event. I'd like to request a letter with Pro!Hero Todoroki with a quirkless Fem!reader. We're in an established relationship (we were highschool sweethearts and have been together ever since). Also, I'd like if he called me 'honey' in the letter.
Tone/Genre: Proposal and adoration
Location: We live together but, he's always out on hero duty so I rarely see him home. The letter was left on a page of my favorite book.
Other info: We're both 25. I'm a hopeless romantic and, he does everything he can to show his love and appreciation for me. Sometimes I overthink but, he's there to support me. I'm quirkless so, I work as a digital artist. While waiting for him to return home, I do my hobbies which are reading, writing.
Thanks!
Todoroki's Proposal Letter to His Girlfriend
This event is now CLOSED, but you can view the masterlist for the other letters here.
| Pairing: Todoroki x Fem!Reader| Genre: Fluff | Post-Type: Letter | Word Count: 980 |
Warnings: kissing?
Note: Hey! Happy Valentine's Day, hope you enjoy your letter from Todoroki :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were finally relaxed for the evening after coming home from work, your body practically melting into your favorite chair. Your boyfriend, Todoroki had paid someone to create a little reading nook for you, but perhaps it was more like your own mini library. There were shelves upon shelves of books you needed to read along with sprinkles of books you’ve already read and loved.
Your fingers find the book you had been making your way through and couldn’t wait to get lost within the words on the page for another evening while waiting for your boyfriend to return home from his hero duties. Though, as you flip to the page your bookmark was holding, you furrow your brows in confusion at the envelope tucked between the pages.
You gently open it, closing your book and placing it to the side as you begin to read the letter to yourself;
Dear Y/N,
If I’m correct about your daily habits, then it should be around 7pm when you’re finally reading this and I’m hopefully almost home to say this to you directly. But…in the slight chance that I’m not, you’ll probably never see this and I’ll have to come up with another plan.
Happy Valentine’s Day, honey. I can’t believe how long we’ve been together. Looking back on our high school days, I could never picture myself giving my heart to someone, trusting and loving them unconditionally, yet now I can’t imagine my life without you in it.
You’ve remained by my side through all my family mess and helped me through so many difficult moments in my life. So thank you for loving me and accepting me for all my flaws. I’m terrible at saying these things to you directly. It’s hard for me to fully be vulnerable about my feelings and at times I don’t want to burden you with them even more than I already have.
However, lately I can’t help but want to be even closer to you. The reassurance that you’re here to stay, that you’ll be mine forever. I’ve been thinking about it a lot. We already live together, why not seal the deal?
I don’t want to ask you this important question in a letter when I’m not home to see how you’ll react, but please wait for me for a few more minutes. I’ll be there to ask you shortly. I love you.
Yours,
Sho.
Your heart was beating wildly in your chest at the words you read. Was he really about to come home and propose to you? Was that what he was hinting at? Your cheeks felt hot at the idea of him wanting to be your husband.
Did you look okay? You had gotten comfortable in your pajamas for the night already. Would it be better if you changed into something nicer?
Yet you had no time to change or do anything as the familiar beep of the electronic lock in your home sounded, signaling Todoroki was already home. You scramble to your feet and rush to the front door to see him.
Todoroki, holding a beautiful bouquet of flowers, enters, closing the door behind him, before turning to face you, his eyes softening at the sight of you. You had read his letter, he knew you did.
“Welcome home,” you greet him, eyeing the flowers, your heart thumping in your chest.
He closes the distance between you, pressing a kiss to your lips and taking your hand with his free one.
“Great to be home, I missed you,” a small smile appears on his usually stoic face as he hands you the flowers in his hands, “Got theses for you, honey. Happy Valentine’s Day.”
You clutch the flowers in your arms tightly, thanking him. Then he gets down on one knee, one hand still firmly holding yours as he removes a box from his pocket and opens it to display a unique, yet beautiful ring inside it.
“I’m sure you read the letter I left for you and it’s true. I want to spend the rest of my life with you by my side. Not only as my partner, but as my other half. I love you Y/N, more than I thought I’d ever love someone. Would you please marry me?”
It was a little awkward as he fumbled over his words, not used to saying these things out loud, but it was perfect in your eyes.
With teary eyes, you nod your head. You wanted this, you wanted to be his wife and have him as your husband. Making a vow to remain together till death do you part.
“Of course I’ll marry you,” you cry out, watching him as he placed the beautiful ring that fit your taste perfectly, on your ring finger.
He props himself back on his feet so he’s eye level with you, wrapping his arms around your waist, pressing a kiss to your cheek as one of his hands holds the hand with your ring on it, one of his fingers running over the gem.
“Should we just get married now in town?” He asks, almost impatient to call you his wife.
You laugh gently at his subtle excitement beyond his stoic expression that once again took over his features.
“There’s no rush. Let’s enjoy the engaged life for a bit. You’re at the peak of your career right now, we have forever to get married,” you smile, calming him down before he carries you to the marriage registrar’s office.
Reluctantly, he nods at your request. He was excited to marry you, but more than willing to follow your wishes and give you an extravagant wedding ceremony if that’s what you desired. Your life together as an engaged couple was just beginning, and you were beyond excited for what the future held for the both of you.

Why I'm Okay with Nancy/Tristan Having a "Soulmate" Connection and What That Means for Nace
Okay, this is going to be less of a theory explanation than a deep dive into the most prevalent (?) theory I've read/the theory I subscribe to, and why I think it's going to play out in an amazing and satisfying way for our beloved star-crossed lovers.
First, the theory: Tristan is the Sin Eater, destined to reincarnate throughout time and consume the sins of Horseshoe Bay. After what we've seen in 4x10 (the *spark*, "We've walked this path many times before.", "It was like he knew you."), it seems Nancy is some kind of light-energy-Sin Eater-counterpart. An Angel of Truth, perhaps? It seems she is also destined to reincarnate throughout eternity in order to reveal the truths of Horseshoe Bay.
Why I love this theory: Nancy is passionate about finding out the truth and has a dedication to honesty. It's ingrained in her from a young age, and plays a huge role in why she solves mysteries and how she navigates her relationships. She solved the biggest mystery of all (her own heritage) by "always seeking out the truth, even when it hurts.” Just like Kate taught her. And every single one of her relationships is colored by it—Nick pulling away because she wouldn’t be honest with him. Uncovering that Ace was lying and working for McGinnis. Pushing Bess to reveal her real identity. The list goes on.
We’ve also known Nancy to lie when it’s incredibly important for her—Recanting her testimony and destroying her credibility to save Ace’s life, lying by omission to Ace about the curse to keep him safe.
(also Carson calls Nancy their “better angel” and wow do I love a show that makes things work from 2 seasons ago).
How I think it will play out for Nace: Right now, Nancy seems pretty heavily into this so-called “romantic” connection with Tristan, and Ace seems rather forgotten doesn’t he? She talks about him as an “ex” and that Tristan is an “open and honest” communicator, and a “mature” relationship, implying that those things aren’t/weren’t true about Ace, which we all know is obviously not true.
But we learned that Nancy was the last sinner. Personally, I think (and hope) that Nancy’s confessed sin was about (momentarily) giving up HB in order to have a future with Ace. However, regardless of what the sin is, it’s HIGHLY likely that it is Ace and curse related, and if it’s Ace and curse related that means Nancy’s, and Ace’s (...and the crew’s, and the dads’, and…everyone’s) memories are altered. And you know what? If your memories are altered in some way that makes you forget you are cursed or forget that you love someone, this mystical Sin Eater/Angel of Truth soul spark connection thing is gonna feel pretty darn romantic to you.
So what happens when the truth is revealed? We have two truths to uncover here: Nancy’s sin, and the truth about what she is/her past lives.
Number 1: Revealing Nancy’s sin will help her see her relationships more clearly and remember her relationship with Ace. Remember, “our memories make us who we are and that is worth fighting for.”, and we have seen Nancy fight tooth and nail for Ace this season, every fight/break-up they had about their relationship and the curse being colored by their desperation to be together. When that comes rushing back, it’s going to be a big shift. Nancy tells Ace “That's all you're really left with... just messy, stupid memories that stick around, and... good or bad, you get to make more of them.” Nancy has memories with Ace and she’s going to fight for them. She’s going to fight to make more memories with him.
Number 2: We already see Nancy feel pretty strongly about freeing Tristan from his fate as the Sin Eater, and wanting to stop him from having to be reincarnated forever. When she finds out she’s the same, she’s going to fight to end it for herself too. So much of Nancy’s life has been fated/determined—being a Hudson, learning her life was a lie, being taken in by the Drews (Yes, they choose to raise her but did they really have the option to say no? Come on, it’s Carson and Kate), and now this? And so much of Nancy’s life has been about clinging to normalcy. She just wanted to go to Columbia to get away, to be normal. To have a regular family and regular friends. She didn’t ask to be pulled into a murder case and to hunt down supernatural killers. She didn’t ask to be haunted by Lucy Sable. She didn’t ask to be some supernatural reincarnated truth entity.
Nace is endgame. We know this. And right now the ‘star-crossed lovers’ of it all has taken on a new twist. Once cursed to not be together, we now learn that one of them is reincarnated and the other is not. Unable to even spend eternity together.
(Yes, I have Thoughts and Theories on how Nancy putting Ace’s name in the jar at the Lover’s Vigil may have created some connection here, perhaps forging an eternal/after death bond that wasn’t there before. And I also have Thoughts and Theories about that ‘mystical wedding vibe’ of the curse break attempt in 4x03 and how in a wedding ‘two shall become one’ and maybe now their souls are bonded which could influence everything, but that’s A Whole ‘Nother Post.)
So Nancy is going to choose Ace. Break out of whatever Truth/Sin eternal connection this is and choose Ace. Remember that Carson said “maybe we get more than one [soulmate]”, and he also told Nancy “You control your fate. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.” Maybe Tristan is Nancy’s supernatural soulmate, but Ace is Nancy’s person and she’s going to choose him.
The Naceplications:
Here’s why that’s an incredible thing for Nace, and is going to be an important thing for their character arcs, both individually, and as a couple.
Ace needs to be chosen. Ace struggles with insecurities of feeling lost, without purpose, and being unworthy. So much of Ace's life has been about proving himself—proving to his father he’s not a child and can make adult decisions, proving to McGinnis he’s not a screw up after he got caught hacking that database, proving his worth to Grant even as a brother by helping him, proving to Nancy he’s worth her time and attention by trying to always help her (and only in 4x06 does he realize maybe that’s flawed).
But what he doesn’t realize is he’s always been enough just how he is. Nancy loves him just how he is. She opens up to him about tanking her grades, tells him he’s brilliant when he starts making connections with Charity (actually Hannah) in 3x09, tells him “You never were [lacking].”, or even when she tells him in 4x08 “You really showed up for me, I noticed.” by knowing Kate’s anniversary, giving Nancy the necklace while in his body, supporting her breaking and entering. Those weren’t about doing stuff for her but just being there for her. Him. His presence.
So for Ace to learn she’s some immortal-truth-light-being-thing that’s been reincarnated and has this counterpart connection to the Sin Eater, he's going to think he has no chance against that, right? Of course she’ll choose Tristan. Except Nancy can’t lose him. Nancy is willing to and has risked it all to save him, to be with him, multiple times. He doesn’t think he’s good enough, and yet she chooses him.
Nancy needs to be chosen, too. She feels abandoned by everyone in her life (losing her mom, losing her perceptions of her family/her parents, even losing Lucy to an extent), and she feels that so much is out of her control. Nancy worries that she’s only the worst parts of everyone who came before her, and in light of everything—being a source of light and good, reincarnated throughout time—how much of her life was her choice? Does she solve supernatural mysteries because it’s a connection deep in her bones? In her soul?
She’s prickly and complicated and messy and has walls ten miles high, and she needs someone who will choose her through it all. Ace is that person.
There’s a recurring theme of choice for the two of them across the show. Think about Ace knowing there is a choice beyond something that’s bonded to your soul after his connection with Charity. Think about Ace remaining in Horseshoe Bay and telling Laura “I believe I have a purpose here.” Think about Nancy making the unthinkable choice, but saying “Blind spots, Temperance. I choose this.” Think about Nancy and Ace reading emails that say “I want to be with you. I don’t care what anyone else says.”
Think about Nancy, an Angel of Truth, tied eternally to a Sin Eater, choosing a mortal life. Choosing to be with the man she loves.
Think about her turning away from eternal reincarnation and saying “I face the mystery of this journey with courage because it is with you.” “In this world that tries to silence me the most dangerous words I can speak are that I love you.”
Think about how “it’s always been about love” and Nancy is choosing who she loves, not who she’s connected to through fate.
Love is an action, and love is a choice. Love is putting someone else’s needs first and choosing that person over and over. And really, someone that chooses you is far more romantic than a predestined soulmate anyway.

Carol Danvers x reader - a lifetime
Tumblr media
Part two:
Carol led you back to her ship, and you stood awkwardly in the middle of it.
“I refuse to work with anyone but you, so where you go I go.” You said.
“That’s fair enough, I’ve got some spare clothes if you want to change out of that jumpsuit?”
“Oh… uh.. yes I suppose so.”
Carol beamed at you a little.
“Perfect, come on.”
She led you through the ship and she showed you were all she kept all her spare clothes and she began showing you some of them.
“No, I don’t think these will be enough to hide me.”
“Hide you?”
“Do you have anything long sleeved maybe?”
“Uh…”
She threw a pair of jeans at you, and then she pulled out an old looking sweatshirt, showing it to you before she threw it.
“I’ll give you a second.”
She turned around and you quickly changed into the jeans and the sweatshirt, neatly folding up the jumpsuit and setting it on the desk.
“Thank you.”
Carol turned back around, and she looked at you, nodding her head in approval.
“We’ll sort you out some stuff later, but right now we need to go over what you know and what I know, and piece together everything.”
You followed behind her again, and she took you to the front of the ship, handing you a tablet.
“That’s what I got on my last outing. I can never seem to catch up to the dude.”
You sat down in a chair, playing the video so you could watch it.
It was of a dying star, and you watching it carefully.
“It’s smaller than any dying star I’ve seen.” Carol said.
“Because it is, that’s not a dying star, that’s the remnants of one.”
You sent the tablet down and turned to look at her.
“There’s a handful of people that can do what I do, we were raised to be soldiers, many died in battle.”
“How many of you are left?”
“Aside from myself, there is one another, mostly likely working with those who created our little group. A handful of children on my home planet are born with a gift to connect the stars, we are made to be protecters of the universe, but we were created to destroy it. Everybody has their own unique power.”
“So you know who this is?”
You shook your head.
“No, we may have our own unique powers but we gather our power the same way. I won’t know until I see one of these dying stars in person.”
“Why not?”
You sighed.
“When we take the life force of a dying star, we also leave a little bit of our own powers behind, each one has a different color combination.”
“So, what’s yours? Just so I know it’s you.”
You hummed a little, holding out your palm.
A light burned softly, a mixture of blue and purple, just swirling around the orange ball of light and it faded, leaving little trails of blue and purple that disappeared after.
“Blue and purple.”
“Nice, so at least I know I’ll be able to recognise you if you ever got lost.”
You rolled your eyes a little bit.
“Don’t worry, I don’t plan on leaving if that’s what you’re worried about Danvers, like I said, I have I’m I interest in that. I just want to get this over and done with so I can finish what should’ve been finished years ago.”
Carol walked over to her chair and sat down, picking up the tablet you left behind.
She began to look through it, kicking her feet up on the console.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Yes.”
She glanced at you.
“Why are you so determined to die?”
You looked at you hands, clenching your jaw a little.
“I am ashamed of things I have done Danvers, things I never should have done. I have lived with that guilt long enough. I believe it’s time that I face the proper punishment for those crimes.”
“You can change, it seems like you have changed. You don’t seem like a hardened criminal to me.”
You looked at her.
“People can be deceiving.”
“Maybe.”
Carol set the tablet down.
“But that doesn’t mean you deserve to die for the things you did in the past.”
“You wouldn’t say that if you knew the things I had done.”
“We’re all stained by the memories of things we’ve done in the past, I’m no different. I’ve done things I’m not proud of, but I made them right, and you can too.”
“That’s what i am doing, but it changes nothing. This will still end the same way regardless.”
Carol frowned a bit more.
“So there’s no changing your mind?” She asked.
“No, there isn’t.”
She slowly nodded her head.
“So, let’s not think about that then, how about we just go figure out whatever the hell this is and figure out how to stop it.”
You nodded, gesturing to the console.
“Lead the way.”
“Buckle up, it’s a bumpy ride.”
You did the seatbelts on your chair, and she pressed some buttons.
You weren’t too interested in whatever it was she was doing, so, instead you just sat there staring out the window, watching the sky grow closer and closer.
“What was your planet like?” She asked.
“What does it matter?”
“Curious, somebody has to carry on its memory, right? The memory of your friends, family.”
You went quiet, and she glanced at you before looking away.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked.”
“It’s okay. I suppose you would be curious.”
You held up your hand, creating a small planet, showing green land, and blue waters.
“In a way, our home was similar to yours. We had mountains and oceans, cities and deserts.”
You reached out, passing the little planet to her and she took it, spinning it around in her hand.
“We had everything we could ever need, three suns, two moons, animals that could fly that we would tame and keep as pets. We had it all…”
The planet in Carol’s had slowly vanished, leaving a small string of purple and blue.
“I never had any friends, I grew up in a home far away from anybody else, my parents were trying to hide my from the council in the hopes I wouldn’t be taken away.”
“Why?”
“They knew what the council wanted from me, they knew of my power and what it could do in the wrong side. The council killed my parents and took me, trained me to be a soldier, the commander of my team.”
She unbuckled her seat belt and you did the same thing to yours, standing up the stretch.
“We were trained that anybody, and I mean anybody who dared to get in the way of my planets growing empire would face the consequences of it, similar to what the Kree were doing. When I learned of this I confronted the council.”
Carol turned to look at you.
“I killed my own people, my own team, then I destroyed my planet to stop the war that they had created.”
Carol slowly set down the tablet she has just picked up, eyes full of sadness.
“I’m so sorry…”
“I lost everything, after that, I crash landed on Earth, I agreed to help Fury with his avengers initiative, and then the accords happened. I helped Fury design that prison block, under the command I was never to be released no matter what happened, not unless something like this happened. After so many years, upon my request, he was to have me executed.”
“Then why are you helping me? If you knew you were going to be executed?”
“Because I know despite how strong you may be, this is still my fight. I must finish this myself, not you.”
You coughed a little, holding your hand up to her, gesturing to your bag.
Carol grabbed it, walking over she handed it to you, and you reached inside, grabbing a small small box, opening the lid, you took out the small dim star, holding it in your hand.
You sat down for a moment before you put the star back in its box, and you set it aside.
“Why isn’t it as bright?”
You looked at Carol.
“It’s a dying star.”
“You took some of its life force.”
You slowly nodded.
She narrowed her eyes at you.
“We don’t have time for this Danvers, can you find the next star to vanish?”
Carol shook her head, walking over to a console and you got up, following her to look at everything she had gathered.
“No, but I can find one that vanishes unnaturally. The problem is thousands of suns and stars implode all the time, sometimes I get a mixed signal.”
“Uh.. try this, grab those wires.”
You grabbed a few things and began to connect them.
“Connect this to you console frame, be warned it’ll cause a small energy surge, it’ll create a blackout bit it should only last a few seconds. If it lasts any longer I can jumpstart your ship again with your help.”
“Right.”
Carol plugged everything in, and she nodded at you.
Grabbing the other end, you took a deep breath, forcing power through your hand and into the wires.
Her console went haywire, and everything went black.
“I thought you said it would turn back on..” she mumbled.
“Wait…”
You waited a second, and slowly the lights flickered back on with everything else.
Unplugging the wires, you gestured to the console.
Walking over, Carol had a look at everything.
“I have a whole new set of readings, what did you do?”
“When we take the life force of a star, we don’t just take it, it lives inside of us. Kind of like a storage unit, so, instead of looking for a sun or star that’s imploded, you’ll what to be looking for a surge of power exactly like mine.”
Carol looked at you, seeing a bit of blood under your nose.
Grabbing a cloth, she handed it over, gesturing to your nose and you covered it.
“Thanks. It’s been a while since I’ve used my powers, it may take time to get to the strength I need to be at.”
“Then we’ll have to work together, as a team. Right?”
You looked at her as she grinned from ear to ear.
“Not everybody would be so pleased to work with a criminal.”
“I think you’re pretty cool.”
You cracked a small smile, and she held out her hand.
“A team?”
You reached out, clasping your hand with hers.
“A team.”
Carol grinned, and you smiled, letting go of her hand and turned your attention to the console.
“This could take a while, to play it safe we can’t harness stars more than once a month. It’s too dangerous, especially with bigger stars. Which also gives us time to sort out a game plan.”
“Right, and for you to get back into fighting shape, so, know any hand to hand combat?”
You shook your head.
“Perfect, let’s learn.”
She put her fists up and you copied her.
You had no time to waste, and who knows how fast to learn, so you needed to pick up everything as fast as you possible could.
You just prayed your body would hold out until then, because at this rate, you wouldn’t last much longer than a year at most, and you had to make sure Carol never found out about it

Sunset Savannah’s Tamashina-Mina – Episode 3 (Part 2)
Following is part 2 of my translation of Episode 3 of the Tamashina-Mina event. This part contains episodes 3-5 to 3-9.
Spoilers after the cut!
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Episode 3-5
Kalim: Hey, I can see a bunch of huge buildings over there. Is that Leona’s house?
Vil: So the royal palace here is made of stone.
Leona: Yeah, ‘cause it’s supposed to be both a palace and a fortress. It was built with strength in mind.
Kalim: Your family lives here, right? I’ll go say “hi”!
Leona: Quit it. What I need to do is…
(Someone comes running up)
???: LEONA OJITAAAN!
Tumblr media
Leona: Crap….
Everyone: Ojitan?
Vil: Who is this child?
Grim: I think I’ve seen ‘im somewhere before…
Yuu: I remember him!
Kifaji: Everyone, this is Lord Falena’s son and the firstborn prince: Lord Cheka.
Vil: Your older brother’s son? So he’s your…
Leona: My nephew.
Kalim: Oh my gosh, you’re so cute! Hi there. My name is Kalim Al-Asim, and I’m one of Leona’s friends.
Cheka: Oh, one of Ojitan’s friends! Hello!
Leona: You know what. I aint’ even gonna bother correctin’ him anymore.
Cheka: Ever since I heard Ojitan was coming home, I’ve been super excited!! Hey, whatever you guys are doing, lemme join!!
Leona: Tsch. Would ya stop clingin' to me! You little brat.
Vil: Even though Leona’s glaring daggers at him, he’s just frolicking around Leona without a care in the world…. He’s so innocent. I can hardly believe they’re related.
Lilia: Yes, it’s surreal seeing them next to each other.
Cheka: Ojitan, let’s go play together!
Leona: We’re gonna be practicin’ Catch the Tail today, and then we got the tournament tomorrow. And we’re headin’ back to school soon as the tournament ends. It sure does pain me to say this, but I just ain’t got the time to play with ya.
Cheka: What do you wanna play? Tag? Hide-and-go-seek?
Leona: ….You got lint in your ears or something? I ain’t playin’ any games with ya. The heck would I do something that stupid….
Cheka: Ok, then I’ll just come with you guys!
Kifaji: Lord Cheka, you mustn’t be so self-indulgent.
Cheka: Huh!?
Kifaji: You are the heir to the royal throne. I cannot permit you to go traipsing off to some tourist attraction.
Cheka: But…..
Kifaji: Disobedient children are subject to singing for me!
Cheka: No, I don’t like that!!
Tumblr media
Kalim: Sing? That sounds like fun.
Leona: As if. Kifaji will chose the most dour, goddamn irritating song you ever heard in your life and make you sing it over and over again. A punishment like that’d bring any kid to tears.
Vil: Ah, so that’s why he suddenly started behaving.
(Some people come running up)
Imperial Guards: Lord Cheka! So this is where you were!
Cheka: Oh, hi everybody!
Leona: Looks like your attendants finally showed up.
Imperial Guard A: Lord Leona…. It’s been a long time since you last came home.
Leona: Yeah.
Imperial Guard B: Lord Cheka, you mustn’t cause any bother for Lord Leona.
Lilia: My, those two beastwomen look impeccably formidable.
Leona: That’s ‘cause they’re veteran imperial guards. They’re strong as hell. The royal family of this country is lion beastfolk, and in lion prides, it’s the women who’re in charge of huntin’. That might be why there’s so many brawny women in our imperial guard. I mean, of course we got some male guards, too. But almost all the important positions are held by women.
Lilia: I see. That’s a unique characteristic of this country, where beastfolk are so numerous. And I’d heard before that the King of the Beast’s valor was only possible thanks to the efforts of a lone, gallant lioness.
Kifaji: You two. Don’t tell me Lord Cheka was really able to give you both the slip? As superior officers, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Imperial Guard A: W-We apologize profusely, Chamberlain Kifaji. The ones normally in charge of escorting Lord Cheka are absent today, and we….
Imperial Guard B: It’s been a long time since we’ve been out in the field like this, and our instincts have grown dull. We’ll be more careful from now on!
Leona: Now that ya mention it, I don’t see that trio that’s always with Cheka. ….Wait a second. Don’t tell me they’re….
Kifaji: Correct. Please do prepare yourself, Lord Leona.
Tumblr media
Leona: Tsch.
Everyone: ?
Imperial Guards: Well then, we’ll go ahead and escort Lord Cheka back to the palace.
Kifaji: Understood.
Cheka: *sob* Let’s meet up again later, Ojitan! We just gotta!!
Leona: Sure.
(Cheka and the guards depart)
Leona: …if there’s a later. Heh.
Lilia: Sounds like you're totally ready to run away, huh.
Tumblr media
Episode 3-6
Leona: C’mon. Let’s go to Elephant Legacy before anything else annoying happens.
Kalim: We came here since the bus broke down. So what’s the plan now?
Leona: We’ll be taking one of the cars.
Lilia: That sounds good, but…. Who’s going to drive?
Leona: You guys can’t drive? Then I’ll have to do it.
Everyone: Leona’s going to drive!?
Vil: Are you seriously able to drive!?
Leona: If I couldn’t, then I wouldn’t have said that.
Lilia: My, this is a surprise. You’ve never mentioned it before.
Leona: There’s only one thing, though. I can’t drive somethin’ as big as a bus, so not everyone’s gonna be able to come with. Grim’s gonna need to sit on someone’s lap, and with that we’ll be at full capacity. In other words… I’m terribly sorry, Kifaji, but I’m gonna have to ask you to sit this one out. I don’t have any other choice.
Tumblr media
Kifaji: …..Now I understand. This is why you proposed we come to the royal palace - so you could get rid of me. Goodness gracious. You certainly are a crafty one. I should hope you would employ that quick-wittedness of yours for the sake of our country, rather than wasting it like this.
Leona: Don’t be ridiculous. You already got a fantastic ruler here. Ya’ll don’t need someone powerless like me.
Kifaji: Not this again… Why must you say such thoughtless things… If you truly were as powerless as you claim, then you wouldn’t have been able to become so proficient at Catch the Tail. Normally, it would be but a pipedream for a team to claim victory during their first attempt at the tournament. However… Since you will be receiving Lord Leona’s instruction, you’ve got a fighting chance. Much to my chagrin as that may be.
Kalim: Is Leona really that good at Catch the Tail?
Leona: We got this tradition here where the younger brother of the heir to the throne has to lead the Sunset Warriors, which is the team that wins the tournament. And since I’m the second-born prince an’ all, I was forced to learn all the ins-and-outs of Catch the Tail… by a certain meddlesome Grand Chamberlain.
Kifaji: It is only natural for the leader of the Sunset Warriors to study the techniques of Catch the Tail.
Leona: Tsch…. Why are you still here anyways? If you ain’t got any business left, then get out of my face already.
Kifaji: As Grand Chamberlain of the royal family, I will do as you command, Lord Leona. I shall excuse myself now. I wish you all the best of luck in the tournament.
(Kifaji departs)
Tumblr media
Vil: So this is the royal family’s car. It’s a lot more practical looking than I’d imagined.
Lilia: What a wonderful off-road car. I’m sure we’ll have no problems traversing the savannah with this.
Leona: There’s other kinds besides just this one, but this is the best one to take if we’re going to Elephant Legacy.
Kalim: It’s a really cool car! I can’t wait to have Leona drive us there. Oh, I know! I wanna ride shotgun! I bet there’s tons of animals in the savannah, right? I’m so excited!
Leona: …I can already tell you’re gonna give me a headache. You’re just gonna distract me if you sit next to me, so you’re going in the back.
Tumblr media
Lilia: Then I’ll go ahead and sit up front with you, instead. Truth is, I actually know a thing or two about cars myself. If you get tired on the way, I can take over driving for you ♪
Leona: Oh, yeah? That’s great, but…. You do have a driver’s license, right?
Lilia: I can’t remember! As long as I do it well enough, I’m sure it won’t be an issue. Right?
Leona: ….Nah, there’s no way I’m lettin’ you sit next to me. That’d be absolute chaos.
Vil: I for one flat out refuse to sit up front with you. I’d like to enjoy looking at the savannah on the way there, and all that nice scenery would be spoiled with you next to me.
Leona: I never friggin’ asked you in the first place.
Grim: And that means I get shotgun! Nyahahaha!!!
Tumblr media
Leona: Fine. But only if ya sit with Yuu.
Yuu: I’m fine sitting in the back…
Leona: You seriously tellin’ me to just let ‘im sit up front by himself? And if I have him sit in the back with the rest of you guys, he’ll be even more annoying. Get in the front seat now. Both of you.
(Everyone gets into the car)
Leona: ‘Kay, we’re off to Elephant Legacy. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride, so ya’ll better hang on tight.
Tumblr media
Episode 3-7
Leona: We’re almost there.
Grim: Waah…. I fell asleep before I noticed. It feels really good, the way the car rocks you like that.
Vil: I’m surprised you drive so well. So even Leona Kingscholar has something he’s good at.
Leona: I’m so honored to receive your compliments.
Kalim: We got to see a whole bunch of wild animals along the way! It was so much fun!
Lilia: I could tell how excited you were, Kalim.
Vil: Kalim, doesn’t your family have a lot of animals back at your place? I don’t see what all the fuss is about?
Kalim: Seeing animals at the zoo and seeing them in the wild out here in the grasslands is totally different.
Vil: Ah, you have a point. It’s not every day you get to see wild animals out on the hunt up close like this.
Leona: That’s the Circle of Life for ya.
Tumblr media
Kalim: What’s that?
Leona: It’s somethin’ like an old proverb, and it’s been passed down in this country over the ages. Here in the savannah, animals live their whole lives surrounded by danger all around ‘em. The strong eat the weak, and when the strong die, their bodies return to the earth and become the grass. And just like that, life comes full circle, and everything we see exists together in a delicate balance. Guess the lesson from it is “we must treasure this circle”.
Lilia: Words befitting of a people who cherish nature so. The Circle of Life, huh. I like it. To think, there’s still things left for me to learn at my age.
Kalim: Ahaha. You’re only a year older than me, Lilia! That’s a funny thing to say.
Vil: Looks like we made it to Elephant Legacy. Let’s go ahead and take a look-see.
Tumblr media
Kalim: Woah! Look at all this steam!
Leona: Since there’s a volcano nearby, there’s a bunch of hot steam that gushes out everywhere.
Grim: I can hardly see a thing ‘cause of all the steam.
Lilia: This place has such an imposing aura about it. I’ll take some photos while we’re here and show Malleus, Silver, and Sebek once we get back!
Kalim: Hey, let’s hurry and go see the elephants!
Leona: Hold it. There ain’t any elephants here.
Kalim: Huh!? Then how come it’s called Elephant Legacy?
Leona: One time they found some elephant fossils in the mineral springs here. And everybody just kinda started callin’ the place “Elephant Legacy” after that.
Tumblr media
Grim: …..Aaah!!!
Kalim: What’s wrong, Grim?!
Grim: There’s a bunch of food floating around in the hot springs! What a waste!
Leona: Stop fussin’…. That food ain’t floatin’ around in the water. It’s inside the kettles that are hidden by all this steam. People here make use of the hot water vapor to cook onsen tamago and pudding.
Kalim: Onsen….tamago…? What’s that?
Lilia: It’s boiled eggs cooked up using the hot water of the springs and the heat from the steam. It’s one of my specialties!
Leona: Since Elephant Legacy’s onsen tamago are steamed with the hot water vapors, they taste a little bit salty. Even the pudding made here ends up smelling sulfurous. It’s got a very distinctive taste, is what people say.
Grim: I wanna try some! Let’s see, I’ll just reach into one of these kettles and- …Waaah!!! Youch!!! It’s hot!!!
Kalim: Aaah! Grim’s about to fall into the kettle!
Grim: Waaah! Someone help me!!!
(Leona goes over and yoinks out Grim)
Tumblr media
Leona: Do the words “don’t misbehave” seriously not mean anything to ya!?
Grim: Ugh….. T-That was awful….
Restaurant Owner: The steam’s really hot, so please be careful!
Lilia: And here we were just about to enjoy ourselves some steamed Grim.
Tumblr media
Vil: Leona. Could you go ahead and show us to that special section you were talking about? The one where only members of the royal family are permitted to go?
Leona: Oh, yeah. Certainly, Mister Vil Schoenheit.
Grim: What do they got at this special section?
Leona: The hot spring. Elephant Legacy’s actually a recreation resort. There’s lots of tourist traps here that make use of the spring’s geothermal energy in some way or another, but there ain’t a bathing facility here. Except… There is a place you can go into the water at the royal family’s retreat.
Vil: Really? Oh, I’m looking forward to this. I adore hot springs. I wasn’t thinking we’d be able to go into the water, so I’ll be sure to thoroughly enjoy myself while we’re here.
Grim: Nyahaha. I’m excited, too!
Lilia: Oh? Is the kitty not afraid of getting his fur wet?
Grim: I ain’t a cat!!!
Tumblr media
Episode 3-8
Vil: Hah…. That was a lovely bath.
Kalim: Yeah! It felt really good!
Lilia: Indeed. I feel so invigorated.
Yuu: I feel all warmed up now!
Leona:  Don’t go and get sick from cooling down too quickly. If ya pass out, we’re gonna leave ya at the hotel.
Grim: U..ugh. I’m so dizzy…
Lilia: Hm? Ah, you might’ve gotten dizzy from being in the hot water for too long.
Kalim: Maybe we should call up Kifaji and have him tend to Grim?
Leona: No way. Took me long enough to shake him off the first time. I’m sure if Grim eats one of these onsen tamago, he’ll be cured in a jiffy. Here ya go.
Grim: *munch munch munch* Yummy! It’s just a plain boiled egg, but it’s got a good flavor to it!
Leona: See? What did I tell ya. He recovered in the blink of an eye. He wasn’t dizzy from the hot water, his stomach was just empty.
Tumblr media
Kalim: Ahaha! I’m so glad you’re feeling better now, Grim!
Vil: This has been the perfect spa treatment so far. Thanks to the fine quality of the spring water, my skin is as smooth as can be, and my beauty’s become even more refined now. It was totally worth it coming all the way out here. I’m definitely satisfied. Let’s go do some more souvenir shopping now.
Tumblr media
Kalim: Woah, look at all the different stuff they’re selling! I can see why this place is a major tourist attraction!
Vil: Hmm… Ah, here it is. Elephant Legacy’s renowned natural cosmetics.
Lilia: Is that what you’ve been hunting for this whole time?
Vil: Mm-hmm. I did some research on this place before we came here, and these products piqued my interest. I’ll use these to get my dorm students to pay better attention to their beauty.
Giftshop Storekeeper: Welcome!
Vil: I’d like these clay masks. And for myself, I’ll take… this body cream, this toner made from the hot springs water, this soap enriched with hot springs minerals, and…
Grim: Aren’t you getting a lot of stuff for yourself?
Gift Shop Storekeeper: Thank you so much for your purchase!
Vil: Perfect. I was able to buy souvenirs for my dorm students.
Kalim: I bet Rook and Epel are gonna be so happy!
Tumblr media
Lilia: I guess I’ll go ahead and look for something for Malleus and the others. Let’s see here… That store you bought your souvenirs at is very stylish, Vil. And I see there’s plenty of old school establishments here that have been in business for a long while.
Leona: That’s cause Elephant Legacy’s been a recreation facility for a long time now.
Lilia: Ah, I see. For some reason, it felt like there was just this air of nostalgia about the place. ….*gasp* T-That’s….!
Kalim: What’s wrong, Lilia?
Lilia: Everyone! I’ve found just the thing I’ve long been searching for! It’s on that wall over there!!!
Kalim: You mean that piece of cloth hanging on the wall? It’s shaped like a triangle. What is it?
Leona: Looks like a flag. It’s got “Elephant Legacy” written on it in all caps…. Is that a souvenir or something?
Vil: And there’s even a picture of an elephant embroidered on it. Could it be a tapestry of some sort?
Kalim: I got it! It’s a carpet! A weird looking one.
Grim: Isn’t it a mantle?
Lilia: Sorry, but you’re all wrong. It’s a… pennant.
Tumblr media
Everyone: A pennant?
Lilia: It’s a type of souvenir that used to be sold at tourist attractions all over the world. But now you can hardly find them anymore. I always thought that was such a shame, but... To think, I’d run into one here in Sunset Savannah.
Leona: They really sold stuff like that in this country? I didn’t know that, either.
Kalim: I’ve never seen a souvenir like that before. The cloth is really pretty, but how come it’s shaped like a triangle?
Vil: I’m not so sure how you’re recipient is going to react to that thing, Lilia.
Lilia: I’ll give one to Malleus. Oh, I can already envision how elated he’ll be.
Leona: ….That horned jackass would seriously like something like that?
Lilia: Yes, and he’s even hung up the pennants I’ve given him over the years on the wall in his dorm room.
Vil: That’s quite surprising….
Lilia: It’s a rare item I haven’t come across in a long time. I’ll go ahead and purchase some for Silver and Sebek, too. Storekeeper, I’d like three of those!
Giftshop Storekeeper: Those? ….Oh, you mean the pennant that’s on the wall? I apologize sincerely, but that’s not for sale.
Lilia: W-what did you just say!?
Tumblr media
Giftshop Storekeeper: We don’t sell pennants anymore. We had that pennant up on the wall way back when we used to sell them and we’ve just left it there, so….
Lilia: But how can this be?!!
Kalim: Aww, that’s too bad. Huh, Lilia.
Lilia: Could it be? Is there really no place left in the world that sells pennants anymore… No, I mustn't give up! Someday, I’ll buy another pennant again! You’ll see!! And I’ll give it to Malleus! I’m sure he’ll cry tears of joy!
Everyone: ……..

Episode 3-9
Kalim: Hey, they got a lot of stuff made with beads for sale. Looks like it’s all handmade. There’s accessories like bracelets and necklaces, and there’s also keychains and coasters… We saw lots of stuff like this back at the bazaar.
Leona: People here have been using beads for ornaments an' decorations for a long time, so you’ll find stuff like this everywhere. There’s even plenty of bead artisans still around nowadays. Everything you see here is a handmade, one-of-a-kind item, made with natural materials.
Vil: No wonder they’re all so beautiful.
Lilia: Hmm. Perhaps in place of the pennants, I’ll get the boys some of these beaded coasters instead. We often enjoy coffee at the dorm, after all. Well, Sebek’s never been one for coffee, so he simply pretends to drink it.
Tumblr media
Kalim: I think that’s a great idea. I bet Silver would be happy to get one of those pretty coasters.
Lilia: Indeed. Now then, which animal designs should I get… I’ll get this one with the bird for Silver, since his feathered friends often accompany him at school. And this one with the crocodile for Sebek, since he’s so fond of them. And for Malleus…. Ah, he really doesn’t have a preference for any animal in particular. I’m not sure which one to get him….
Kalim: Hmm. How about this one?
Leona: No, no. That one doesn’t pack enough of a punch. But something like this one here…
Kalim: Oh, then this one should be good! But you know…
Leona: Geez, this is so annoying… Just get the one with the lizard. It suits ‘im.
Lilia: Hmm. Is that so? Since you’re a local and all, I’ll take your advice. Alright, the lizard it is. You really helped me out here, Leona. I’m sure Malleus will be delighted.
Leona: I ain’t doin’ this for him. I just didn’t wanna waste any more time standin’ around here waitin’ for you guys to finish choosing something for that horned jackass.
Vil: No way. Malleus is getting a souvenir that Leona picked out?
Giftshop Storekeeper: Thank you!
Lilia: There, I’ve finished making my purchases. I can’t wait to give everyone their gifts. ♪
Leona: It’s about time for our practice session to start. Let’s head out to the arena. Everyone get in the car.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vil: Is this where the Catch the Tail tournament is going to be held?
Leona: Uh-huh. Our practice time is limited, so let’s hurry up and get started already.
Lilia: But we still don’t know the first thing about Catch the Tail, Leona.
Leona: That’s why I built in some time to break down the rules for ya’ll. First things first, ditch the mantles. They’ll get in the way.
Tumblr media
Kalim: Woah! Now it’s even easier to move around!
Lilia: You’re right. It’s like my body feels lighter.
Vil: These outfits are even cooler looking now.  The mantle’s color was a very reserved tone, but the sleeveless crop top underneath it is so colorful. This use of color is very befitting for an outfit like this, since we'll be wearing it during the festival and all. And these armlets aren’t just for looks, either. They also serve as wrist supports.
Leona: Yeah. ‘Cause you guys are gonna be crashin’ into the other players during the match. If you end up passin’ out from the heat like Jack, it’s gonna be a real pain. Ya’ll are makin’ sure to protect yourselves against heat exhaustion, right?
Lilia: Yes! I’ve applied the deluxe sunscreen I brought along.
Kalim: And we put these long beads on our masks just like you told us, Leona.
Leona: Good. It’s part of the rules that you have to wear those things.
Tumblr media
Vil: Since this is Catch the Tail and all… Are these beads supposed to represent our tails?
Grim: I got a tail, too!
Leona: It’s not that. I mean, yeah, these beads are related to the name of the game, but they’re supposed to symbolize a lion’s mane. For a long time now, long braided hair has been a really popular hairstyle among us lion beastfolk. ‘Cause it’s supposed to look like a lion’s mane
Grim: I don’t got a mane…
Vil: Now I get it. These beads aren’t supposed to resemble an animal’s tail, they’re more like braided pigtails, basically. And they’re something that anyone can wear, regardless of what species you are.
Kalim: It’s neat how the beads clink together and sway around every time we move!
Leona: I really don’t care about the tradition or how the hairstyle looks… Ah, but once you get used to, it’s easier to maintain than other hairstyles. Anyways, the matches are gonna take place in that arena over there. Each match is one-on-one, and whoever takes off their opponent’s beads first is the winner. Easy, huh?
Tumblr media
Lilia: Put another way, whoever steals their opponent’s mane first is the winner. Plain and simple rules. I like it.
Vil: And we’re not allowed to use magic, right?
Leona: Right. And weapons are out, too. You can only use your body. From what I heard, it’s to show respect to the kings of this country who’d fight with only their claws, fangs, and smarts. This is a knockout-style tournament with 16 teams. If your team scores two wins before the opposing team does, you advance to the next round.
Vil: So if our team wins three rounds, then we’ll be the victors of the tournament.
Leona: For now, I want ya’ll to go up against each other a bunch of times. I’m gonna have you show me your strengths and weaknesses.
Vil: Understood. Let’s give it a shot.
Kalim: Yeah!
