Weekend Update 04/07/2024

Nerdie! You haven't done one of these since the middle of March!

Yes 👀 I took some time off of work and was out of the country on a boat. A cruise to be exact. The locations were tropical and fun. the sea days (the time you spend on the ship in between each stop) were not. Personally, I wouldn't go on the cruise line again. I prefer more activities, music and a more lively environment. Overall the trip was wonderful, just those sea days. Ugh, silver lining though, so much writing. 🤣

We saw you post a lot Nerdie, didn't you start new series and just post one shots?

I did a lot of writing. 🫣 I'm going to do a list of things I finished or are ongoing. I preface this by saying that I have so many random fanfic ideas. 😭 I have not written all of them out.

Q: How in the world do you have so many ideas?

A: I truly don’t know. I can only say that I live in my head a lot so to speak so imagining what I would like to say, think or do is a lot easier than actually doing it. Then I just write it. Also I enjoy making myself and others laugh so the more insane a scenario is, the more likely it is to make it into a fic somehow.

Q: How do you write so much?

A: I stick my ideas in notes. Sometimes bullet point, sometimes just start writing. Usually if I use these focus things you can use in discord called “Sprints” I can channel the idea onto a page. It’s not always the same idea I had in mind, but usually it’s pretty good. Then I actually finish things to a good soundtrack or playlist. There is also tea involved.

Q: Which idea is next Nerdie?

A: Marcus Pike in therapy for an incident involving a gun and Mr. And Mrs. Hot Dog Water (if you know, you know.) Dieter as your sperm donor except he said “bun making appointments” because he has his reasons he doesn’t feel like telling you until the bun is in that oven and Ezra or Javi P in an AU as a sex worker because…again reasons 👀 It could be any of these or that Din and fairy warrior idea I had. 🤣 All of these are…very me. lol 😂

Motivation is always a fickle thing

AKA one of my experiments on how to motivate yourself to finish writing a fic?

I started writing the fic in 2019, posted the fic in November. Stopped posting it in 2020. It is now 2024.

I have a clear, decisive end in mind. I have plenty of notes, both in a physical pen and paper notebook and the ones I typed on the computer.

I still find it a challenge to finish the story. And I know it is never the lack of willpower (it never is).

For me personally, my challenge has been both the complexity of the story, and learning about how I work with myself, instead of against. Following arbitrary schedules, for me, no matter how strategic they are, would not work.

(Fanfic writers often joke about daydreaming about the fic instead of actually writing it. For me, it is no joke😂😭)

It has been like this for me not just in terms of writing fics, but in other areas of my life as well, such as work.

And I have long known I could never rely on motivation. It is such a fickle thing.

One wise man said, build a habit, so you don't rely on motivations.

I agree with this notion, to an extent.

It has worked for me in one area, but not another. There isn't a one solution fits all, after all.

But in a world that speaks loudly about how consistency is key, advocates repetition to instill habits, and ultimately praising efficiency of an automated process (even when it is our own brain), I forgot the very reason why I write.

I assign less and less importance on motivations.

After all, sparks of joy, sudden bursts of energy, light-bulb moments of inspirations, are unexpected, unpredictable, and therefore, unreliable, aren't they?

Even though the very reason I write was the pure joy of thinking up a story, cooking up plots and scenes. That lightbulb moment in the shower! Or specific moments during daydreaming that I ended up including in my fic.

Things that are difficult to find if it is an automated process, for established habit.

No wonder we are all burnt out and spent.

We are all so focused on achieving, doing, and in the process, forgetting why it is worth achieving.

Hmm.

I actually just wanted to post a few pics I took.

I tried to write a caption so it has some context.

Why did it become such a long post? 😭😂

It feels a little bit silly.

I could just log into AO3 and re-read them. No big deal. Why go through the hassle?

But I'd like to think it would be worth the "hassle".

It is a process of cultivating joy🌱

The story, the ideas you've cooked up in your mind years ago - if it doesn't excite you as much as it used to - that's normal. Our brain is built to get used to things, after all.

(even when it saddens me to admit that it doesn't excite me as much as it used to).

It does not mean that it has to be an automated process, simply done out of habit, or done because it is scheduled into a calendar.

Sudden bursts of energy, light-bulb moments of inspirations, are unexpected, unpredictable, but they have always been reliable in igniting desire - the soul of creativity itself.

The so-called motivations. Elusive and mysterious.

Quite troublesome!

In my case, since I have been working on this fic all by myself, it could get severely understimulating.

One of the things that have greatly helped is shifting my perspective to see that in fact, I'm not entirely alone. (Especially since parts of the story has been posted and received by people).

Of course I know there are people who read the story. I still get the occasional kudos from time to time (thank you!!).

But even if fanfic writers say they read and re-read comments, it's not like we open our phones everyday to do it. Not when we have whatsapp to respond to, newsfeed to scroll, genshin to play, and social media accounts to stalk.

It's quite common for a hundred people to click on your story and only one person might leave you kind words.

But that one person could have brightened your entire day! Even when you came back to their comment the next day, it still managed to leave you smiling.

Life goes on the following day though, and as time went on, you forgot about those kind words.

I, too, forgot. Even though I clearly received more than one.

So, in an effort to keep the desire alive, to fill my space with the little joys, to cultivate motivations, and all in all trying to write -- I made them just a little bit more physical.

Ok I'm here🤭 second read and feedback time 🩷

After a long day at nursery, Thea was out for the count. Snoozing away peacefully on the sofa with her favourite soft pink rabbit and once you knew she was fully out you went searching for Mason. He had to be here somewhere you just didn’t know where. OMG I LOVE THIS LITTLE GIRL🥹

If you were being honest with yourself, you felt a bit weird sneaking around the house like this. You’d only officially moved in with him three weeks ago so whilst this was technically your house now you still felt like you were snooping somehow. THEY ARE FINALLY ALL TOGETHER 😭

‘Please mate, it’s just one night. I promise I’ll make it up to you’ he told whoever it was quietly. ‘Thea hasn’t seen her uncle Lew in a month now and she misses you. You don’t want her to forget what you look like do you?’ AHHAHAHAHAH MASONNN DO YOU WANT TO GET RID OF YOUR BABY?😭😂

The fact of the matter was, he was right. Thea had been so excited about the three of you finally being one big family that she insisted on sleeping with the pair of you in the beginning. You let it slide for for the first two nights as her room was still being redecorated and you loved being all together but now Thea expected it and refused to go to sleep in her own room. GUYS NOT RIGHT CHOICE, SHE IS GOING TO SLEEP THERE FOR A LONG TIME NOW😂

‘Well maybe some other stuff when we get home’ he winked, causing you to giggle as you hid your face in his neck. ‘You know what it’s like at the start of a relationship, I just wanna be on you all the time and it’s difficult’ SILLY BOY🤭

Your first date was perfect, he took you to one of his favourite spots for dinner, his eyes practically hanging out of his head when he got a good look at you and after a night of constant flirting and laughing he walked you home and kissed you on your front doorstep. It felt like a fairy tale but dating your baby’s dad did come with its own set of challenges. OMG THE PERFECT DATE😭

Your sweet angel lighting up whenever he was around but you knew the goodbyes were getting tougher as their bond was growing deeper than ever. MY BABY GIRL😭

‘Before I go, I was just wondering if you were free next week? Thought you could come over and I’ll cook and maybe you could stay over if you want to?’ He asked, eyes full of nerves as he wasn’t sure if you were ready to stay the night and just as he thought, there was only one question falling from your lips. SCREAMING

‘Am I being too much?’ He whispered, your tummy sinking automatically at his tone and you wanted to reassure him straight away that he would never be too much. THIS MAN IS GOING TO BE THE DEATH OF ME

‘It’s okay, I’ve been waiting years for you. I can wait a little longer’ HE IS RIGHT 🤭

‘I mean, I’m no saint exactly. I had a dating app and stuff’ you told him, laughing at the way his jaw slightly dropped and a look of jealousy flashed in his eyes even stronger than before. HE IS JEALOUSSSSS

‘You had a boyfriend?’ He asked curiously, picking up on the way you specified it was only ever one man but you were afraid it had been nowhere near a boyfriend situation. HE IS FREAKING OUT

‘I’m so sorry’ he breathed, cupping your jaw gently but your look of confusion prompted him to carry on. ‘I’ve never really thought about it I guess but I bet there’s loads of stuff you’ve had to give up so I could have things my way’ OH BUT THATS SWEET

‘No it’s not’ he breathed. Kissing your forehead softly. ‘When you’re ready, I’m gonna look after you properly, okay?. WE HAVE NO DOUBTS

‘Hey don’t say that’ he teased. ‘You know how much I love her but if I don’t love you soon I’ll explode’ I GASPED

‘I know, I make sure she’s got the best bedroom out of all of us and she wants to spend every night in our bed. Just typical’ he scoffed, rolling his eyes playfully. ‘I shouldn't moan really. Before all of this started, whenever Thea was with you and I’d have to walk past her room I could never look in properly. Like it hurt knowing she’s not here all the time and this wasn’t her proper room, it was just her room at her dads house. It's so empty when she wasn’t here’ THIS IS MAKING ME TOO EMOTIONAL

‘Hell yeah I do’ he laughed, grabbing you and pulling you further into his lap. ‘Best thing I ever did was asking you guys to move in’ GIGGLING CAUSE HE IS SO HAPPY🥹

‘Bun’ she managed to tell him when he’d finally stopped attacking her but the roll of Mason's eyes let you know he wasn’t happy with her choice. AHHAHAHAH THE MAN WANTED SOMETHING MORE DIFFICULT

‘What do we think, sweet pea? You want it to match yours?’ SWEET PEA🥹

‘Well how about instead of me reading it to you, you show me what happens? I’ve always been more of a visual learner’ he teased, hands dipping under the hem of your shirt so he could touch your waist and you shivered at the feeling knowing he was about to take care of you just how you liked. NAUGHTYYYY

Thea really was Mason's best friend and the pair of them stuck to their promise of getting up and making you breakfast for your first sleepover. SHE IS HIS BESTIE 🥹

‘We go home soon?’ She asked quietly, pulling her bunny up to her chest to hug it tightly. OHH😭🥺 NO BABY GIRL

Mason said he was only popping to the loo so when he still wasn’t back as you finished wiping the surfaces you went in search of him, finding him in the back room with his head propped up on his fists and his bottom lip jutting out and the sight made your heart sunk into your tummy. OH MY BOY IS SAD😭

‘I just… I love you guys and I want us all here together permanently soon but it doesn’t look hopeful if she’s asking when she can leave’ SHE JUST ASKED HER TO MOVE😭😂

‘Thea baby, will you come over here for me?’ You asked, watching her put her toys down and come over. Reaching up so Mason would sit her in his lap and the smile he gave her because she’d picked him made you melt. NOT HER GOING TO HIM EVEN IF Y/N CALLED HER 😭😭😭

‘My toys’ she pouted, her eyes filling with tears immediately and you knew you’d have to break it down for her a little more. In her mind your houses were two separate things and if you were leaving that house then you were leaving everything that came with it there too. OH BABY

‘No more bye bye’ I'M CRYING, NO MORE BYE BYE LOVE😭😭😭

‘Mummy, I like pink’’ OBVIOUSLY SHE LOVES PINK OUR PRINCESS

‘I can make it pink for you sweet pea’ Mason chimed in. Clearly wanting to do anything for Thea to make her more comfortable in his house. ‘Nanny and grandad are here this weekend and I’m sure grandad will help me paint it when I’m back from my game’ HE IS GOING TO PAINT IT😭

‘You know I’d do anything for Thea’ you heard Tony reply and it warmed you to know she had such a supportive network around her. ‘I’m really happy for you, you know that right? I know this is what you’ve always wanted and yes you went about it a different way to most but I’m so proud of you and y/n for figuring it all out. Thea is such a special girl and it’s all down to you two’ TONY🥺

‘You’ll have to sleep with us tonight baby, your room won’t be finished until tomorrow okay?’ You told her but she nodded excitedly. Y/N NOOO😂 SHELL BE THERE EVERY NIGHT

‘We can’t have her in our room forever I’ll go insane’ TRUE🤭😌

‘You're such a good mum’ he whispered. ‘There’s me practically chucking her out on the street just so I can have you. Just shows you what this body does to me’ DEAD😂😂

You were more turned on than you could ever remember being, feeling safe and content in Mason's arms as he loved on you but as soon as his fingers tried to travel up to your chest you felt yourself go stiff. OH SHE IS SCARED

‘Stop talking’ he interrupted, kissing you heavily before pulling back to look you in the eyes. His face serious, causing you to gulp heavily before he started to speak. ‘All that stuff that you think you have, doesn’t matter to me. I’ve loved you this whole time, do you really think I care if you’ve got a tummy now?’ I'LL MELT

‘You carried my baby, do you not know how sexy that is? Do you not realise how horrically turned on I am just by the fact I was the last person to have you and now I get to have you again? You're so bloody beautiful and all I've wanted to do is worship you, you know? Kiss every single inch of you so no I don’t give a fuck if you look different cause you’re still my girl’ he reassured you, the words making your eyes sting but his cheeky smile let you know he wasn’t done making you feel better. ‘I’ve changed too you know’ I'M SCREAMING

‘You know, you’re not the only one who’s got new tattoos’ you smiled bashfully. Watching his eyebrows raise but his eyes darken and you knew he wanted to see it right away so you carefully peeled yourself away from and laid down slightly on your side. Thankfully he followed suit and laid next to you and you watched as his eyes followed your fingers as you pulled the hem of your shirt up to reveal the left side of your ribs. IT'S TIIIIIMMEEEEEEEEE

‘Sweet peas, Thea’s birth flower’ you told him. ‘It’s meant to look like a mother and a daughter, she’s the little one’ GIGGLING AT THIS CAUSE I KNEWWWW

‘For my girls’ he whispered and the lump in your throat kept you from speaking. ‘So Thea’s a sweetpea, yeah?’ SCREAMINGGGG

‘You know, I still remember how you like it’ he whispered, lips on your neck as he squeezed your waist and you could feel your insides quivering as he turned you on even further. His hands reaching round to grip your bum and you gasped before his lips landed on yours again, stealing the breath from your lungs. OMG��

‘Hey, it’s alright’ he whispered, reaching to the side to grab your shirt again before sitting you up and helping you put it back on but his lips were on yours before you could say anything back. ‘We don’t have do anything’ OMG HE IS GOING TO KILL ME

THE SMUT? HER DECIDING TO TURN THE LIGHTS ON? AND HER TAKING HER TOP OF CAUSE SHE FINALLY FEELS COMPLETELY SAFE TO BE WITH HIM?

‘Mummy!’ You suddenly heard being shouted from down the hall. Thea’s bounding steps following her shouts and you quickly jumped away from Mason just in time for her to find the pair of you. HI MISSY YOU WOKE UPPP

‘Well, here's one of them’ he smiled, placing the flowers on the side so he could pull you into his body and leave a heavy kiss on your lips. ‘You alright?’ OH I WANT FLOWERS TOO

‘Here you go, baby. Couldn’t leave you out huh? Got you some to match mummy’s’ he told her. Handing her the small but perfect bunch and you could have melted on the spot. Thea’s eyes going wide as she took them from him before she got shy and hid her face in his neck but you could see her smile from a mile away. OMG MY MAN😌

‘Got us our own place for the night. Thought we could make dinner together and chill for a bit like we used to’ he told you. Popping his hand on your thigh so he could give it a gentle squeeze and the coy smirk he sent your way made your insides flutter. HE IS THE PERFECT MAN

‘With how quick we managed to make Thea I’m surprised there's not another one on the way’ Mason joked suddenly, fingers tickling your sides and you had to hide your head in his neck before your mouth seemingly ran away with you. SILLYYY

‘I just wish I was around more, you know? Yeah it’s great getting to do the fun stuff but nothing makes me happier than the normal stuff. Like coming home to you two and seeing how happy Thea is to see me. Bed times and bath times every day like that’s the stuff I wanna do’ OH MY LOVE

‘When Thea had just been born and we were staying with you. Remember that night I just lost it? Like I completely broke down and thought I couldn’t do it?’ OH🥺

‘Hey, what’s going on?’ He asked sympathetically but you were in no state to answer him right now. Letting him pull the pair of you into his chest for some comfort and even though you were embarrassed you felt yourself relax knowing you weren’t on your own anymore. DADA IS HOME

‘Its okay, love. Come on, let's sit down’ he told you, walking you over to the bed and sitting next to you ‘pass her here, yeah?’ He whispered, taking Thea from you and resting her on his chest before tucking you under his other arm. ‘It’s alright, don’t get upset. I’m here to help now. What do you need?’ OMG HE IS SO SWEET

‘Exactly, I’ve been sitting on my arse for hours’ he joked. ‘Just let me take over for a bit and you can have a rest, okay? No arguments’ PERFECT DAD

‘Okay well if you need me at all just come and get me please? You’re not on your own remember’ he told you. Repositioning Thea so she was cradled in his arms before wrapping an arm around your shoulder to pull you into his side. BABY🥺

‘Y/n? Is everything okay?’ HE IS HERE

HE CALLED HER LOVE

‘If you’re worried about me seeing things, you know I’ve seen it all before right? That’s kinda why we’re sitting here with a crying baby’ he joked and you couldn't help but give him a smile but as you attempted to pass Thea over so Mason could feed her, but he stopped you in your tracks. ‘Keep hold of her, just move forward a bit’ I LOVE HIM

OMG THIS NURSING MOMENT WAS THE SWEETEST EVER

‘I’m good enough, Mase’ YOU REALLY ARE

‘I remember waking up next to you in the morning and you were so embarrassed’ Mason teased and and you rolled your eyes at him playfully. DON'T TEASEEE😂

‘Of course I did’ he laughed, but before you could say anything back he was back to being sweet. ‘But I loved you then, and I love you now and I told myself I’d always take care of you. If that’s what you needed back then, my shoulder to cry on, that’s what I was going to be’ OH CUTIE

Hello!

Thank you for your questions and I'm sorry it took me so long to answer them.

🦇 Bat: If you could teleport to any point in your story where would it be? You can go back to correct past “mistakes” or into the future to something you’re most excited about.

I think I would need more time to fully answer this question. I'm still in the 1890s so I can't really go back and think about my mistakes.

Two months ago I would have said that it was a pity that I abandoned this challenge for one year, but I think that now I have more interesting ideas. So I guess my procrastination had its own purpose. 😂 As for the second part of the question... I'm so excited about so many different decades that I don't think I can pick one moment in the future 😅

🥧 Pie: Which of your characters takes care of the others around them? How do they take care of themselves?

I think both James and Elsie take care of people around them, although Elsie is more focused on it, and because of that she often forgets about time for herself, which she doesn't have much of these days anyway.

My new posts will show that Will also cares about the family, although in a slightly different way, and his methods are... Interesting.

🔮 Crystal Ball: How far into the future of your story can you see? Do you plan everything in advance or take things step by step?

Oh boy…

I have plans for so many decades. I know I should be focusing on the current decade, but then my brain is like "You know what? I think you should do this and that in the 50s." So what if this plan will probably change a million times? Not to mention that the game can do something unpredictable. Like triplets. Or death.

I plan some things, but at the same time, a lot of ideas come to me spontaneously. I know how the story of my sims will go, but for now, I only have an outline and a few details, and I'm developing the rest as I go. On the other hand, I've had Will's career planned for two months, but a week ago I was thinking about changing it so… 😂🤦‍♀️

Continuing the questions about your work, I want to know which of your GOT7 works you consider the following and why: 1) Your best work, 2) Your most introspective, deep or meaningful work, 3) The one you're most attached to, 4) The one you struggled with the most and 5) The one you aren't happy with but are still glad you wrote it.

I think introspection is one of the most important parts of writing, and I hope that this can be an opportunity for you to look back at your work and see how much you've grown!

Oof...yeah my taste is wild and changes all the time. You like writing love letters for friend too, huh? I don't think I could do it now if someone where to ask but back in the day, I could've made money 😂 I just want to thank you for asking these questions. I am having so much fun with them and just sitting here thinking of my answers makes my day go by faster. I wrote about Got7 and non-Got7 since some of them I couldn't answer with just Got7.

Looking at everything that I wrote up until now just makes me smile. I have so many different styles, highs and lows...it's crazy. I always enjoy looking back to what got me started! Best Work?

I think for me the best Got7 piece that I wrote would be Got7's reaction to your natural hair. I wrote that during my transition from treated to natural hair, so it was fun to write. I tend to write a lot based off my life or those around me. I think it's my best work because it felt realistic in terms of how I thought they would handle the situation. It wasn't a rushed piece and I often go back to it, just to read for fun.

A part from Got7, Stupid Love is something I would consider to be one of my best works. It was my first time diving into a new trope (unrequited love) and I just felt that IM from Monsta X fit the role really well. It was nice to challenge myself and I am more than pleased with how that story turned out.

2. Most introspective/deep/meaning?

I would say my Youngjae fic Cry Baby, to me is the one that is the most meaningful. I suffer from bipolar depression and it was a bad day for me. I wrote it to help get my feelings out and so far I think it's the only Got7 fic that holds such a feeling.

Outside of Got7, I wrote a piece for Mingi of Ateez called Consideration which is heavily based on my life. I think people in relationships of any kind tend to forget that the other person has their own wants/needs. You get comfortable with people and lines blur or just get forgotten. You start to take things for granted and Consideration is there to bring light to those feelings and moments.

I really wish I wrote more deeper fic but I just haven't done it yet. It's on my list for 2023 lol

3. Most attached to?

I'm really attached to my Mark fic Piggy Back. It was an idea that just came to me and I didn't struggle with it at all. Everything was finished in one go and I'm pretty proud of that piece. It's one of my earlier works, so I'm sure it could use some touching up but it's just really soft and sweet.

Another one I'm extremally attached to is Closure. It's a quick one-shot that has Bang Chan of Stray Kids. It's another fic that mirrors a low point in my life and it means the world to me. It was healing for me to write and hold a nice piece of my heart.

4. One I struggled with the most?

By far I Won't Let You Fall with Yugyeom has been the fic that I've struggled with the most to write. It was a request for enemies to lovers and I wanted to bang my head against the wall. E2L is not a trope that I like very much, I tend to ignore it a lot. So when it was requested, I took the challenge and it did not disappoint. I'm pretty sure I wrote that request three times before I finally got something that I liked enough to post.

I am currently working on a Min Yoongi soulmate fic (Blackthorn) that is kicking my butt. I have so many ideas for it but it hard to get it all down on paper/screen. There are so many plot holes right now because I always get ideas in parts and never a full picture. So I am struggling to fill in those holes and makes sure point a and b match up before I can even think about point c and d. It's also a royal fantasy au, so I'm trying to world build a lot more which I'm not the best at.

5. One I'm not happy with but glad I wrote?

It is very rare that I post something that I'm not happy with. My Got7 pieces, are works that I love with my whole heart. So, I don't have a Got7 piece that I'm not happy with. I like most of everything that I post, I take my time with it all which is why I like everything.

If anything I would have to say, my Shownu fic Rainstorm is the fic that I like the least. Only because when I read over it, I feel that it's just a lot of word jumble that doesn't need to be there. It doesn't really give anything for the reader to hold onto and think about. Plus it was a piece I wrote back when I was first getting into Monsta X so I don't think I put a lot of thought into it.
