Note: this was really fun to write, and get away from school stress for a bit, i looooove you all

Tighnari

it would out in the forest(he made sure there was no fungi or anything to disturb u)

he would show you some really pretty flowers or mushrooms if you wanted(tho he wont make it similar to a lecture, only a little)

he maybe spaced out while looking at you, not his fault your so pretty, but gave a(n) (almost) shy apology after.

definitely picked flowers with you so you could have a fresh bouquet with the prettiest flowers you could find(he made sure none of them were deadly, or bad for you to be around)

you were given permission to pet his ears for a little after he caugt you looking at them for a little too long

^^he also let you cuddle his tail if you were cold(but he wont look at you since he doesn't want you to see how red he is)

overall a pretty good first date, if he could say so himself

Heizou

would talk non-stop about some cases he recently solved, wanting to impress you, even though you already are

took you to some fried food stalls around Inazuma city, ritou if you can handle the walk(ik i can´t)

he wanted to take you to do some puzzles with him, but figured he should make it more classic or romantic for your first date

^^maybe next time he´ll take you out to try and solve those puzzles

he got you your favorite flowers(if you like flowers) or a pot he tried to make for you, with the help of his family (which is very happy he wanted to make something, but didn't know he only put effort in bc it was for you)

kano, his cousin, and kujou sara also helped him actually ask you out, because at that point it was getting painful to watch him swoon over you every day

Wanderer

he didn´t even really agree with where he took you, Nahida just told him where to take you after she found out he (finally) asked you out

so he ended up taking you out somewhere in Sumeru city

(but maybe he also ended up leading you out of the city when people were got a little too loud and irritating for his liking)

didnt get you anything, as he didnt think he needed to, but the fact that his attitude was almost not there (when talking to you) was maybe a gift in itself

Nahida was so excited for your date, she may have borrowed someone's body for a while (at least 5-8 hours) and watched you

wanderer definitely noticed her presence, and tried getting away from her to get some complete alone time with you

^^when he finally succeeded you ended up falling on him, so he awkwardly let you sleep on his lap/shoulder while stroking your hair and getting lost in your beauty

Kazuha

your first date was probably on the crux, or wandering around in some nation (either his homeland or yours if you wanted, but that could always be another time)

the activities he had in mind would be fishing, making food together(or baking), sharing his haikus and poems (and helping you make some if you wanted)

^^i had too many ideas to put in here, sorry

but he would stroke your hair as you lay beside him and mutter his recent love poems, just for you

for the food you made, it would be something like fried/baked fish, hashbrowns... anything you knew how to make(basically), and sweets like dango or cake from your homeland

beidou and the crux may or may not have been following you, just for a little

^^she needed something to tell ningguang, as she was also invested in your relationship, and silently cheered on

basically ronan's powers are inherited from his dead father niall and it means he can bring anything from a dream into real life. so he's got this whole crisis about whether he is a living piece of blasphemy because men are not meant to have the powers of gods or whether he literally is god. which is not acceptable to him for a number of reasons but mostly because he hates himself. his love interest's name is adam and adam lives in a small apartment above a church which the book says focuses the objects of his worship neatly into one building. I love them both dearly. also, this entire page makes me feel like I'm going insane. Ronan Lynch believed in heaven and hell. Once, he’d seen the devil. It had been a low, late morning at the Barns when the sun had burned off the mist and then burned off the chill and then burned the edges off the ground until everything shimmered with heat. I don't know if you watch Helluva Boss, but considering og Peccantum (not hazbin version) is space-themed and you mention he decorates his room like space,,, it's totally improbable but WHAT IF HE MET STOLAS or Octavia!!!!!!! So in his pre-afterlife lore you mention he worked his way up a cult but got taken advantage of by the leader and stripped of all the power he'd accumulated. If Peccantum's red string theories lead to conspiracies like "Alastor is just Lucifer in disguise", how off the mark is he about who owns Al's soul? Like would he be crazy enough to suspect Razzle n Dazzle or something or would he hit close to the mark?

Sorry it took so long to answer this! I was drawing a comic and it actually added context to a lot of these questions/answered them, so I figured I'd save it until after I was done. There's a lot here so I'm gonna answer it in numbered sections!

1. Names & Nicknames

I don't really have a nickname for him, I usually call him by his full name lol. Peccy is cool lol. His name is pronounced with hard C's. So Pec-cant-um. Or, in case of the nickname, Peck-y

Fun Fact! Peccantum isn't his 'real' name. Like Angel and Husk, he took a new name once he died. His other name was actually shorter (and an actual name too). Peccantum is actually a mix of the words peccatum, meaning sin or transgression in Latin, and incant, in Latin meaning enchant. Basically, magical sin, which sums up Peccantum pretty well actually!

3. Meeting Stolas

I am a fan of helluva! Have been ever since it came out! Despite that I haven't actually thought about this until now.

Peccantum, absolute nerd that he is, would probably be fascinated by Stolas and his powers. Like talking about specific spells, how long it takes to set up, magic of the stars, etc. I feel like they would have a VERY long conversation about magic and space and shit cause Stolas is lonely and Peccantum is very enthusiastic about this topic. Octavia, meanwhile, would get a long list of places in the human world with little to no light pollution. For excellent star viewing, of course.

4. Cozying up to Alastor

The short answer? No, absolutely not, Peccantum learned nothing XD

The long answer? It's complicated and messy. Peccantum, at that time, went into a bad situation because it was familiar to him. Blood, illicit murders, and strange dealings were all part of what Peccantum was taught to do. He thought he could handle whatever Alastor would ask of him. That it wouldn't matter in the end because Alastor would eventually get rid of him.

He wasn't expecting the Radio Demon to vanish.

5. Clothing Choices

You may have noticed during Checking In that Peccantum is wearing a completely different outfit before he's pulled into the hotel! That is Alastor's doing! Because Peccantum wasn't working for him dressed like that.

At first Peccantum was completely on edge because he was expecting Alastor to show up. After that first year, Alastor could call on him at any time! That's a scary thing to constantly have in the back of your mind. But then, Alastor just... didn't? There were rumors that Alastor had fallen to angels and Alastor wasn't showing up? It left Peccantum completely to his own devices.

Slowly, very slowly, Peccantum started making choices for himself, and learning how to live. He got a shitty job, a shitty apartment, but for the first time in years he was actually living, making choices of his own. And he found he kinda liked it. Not everything, of course, but making your own path in life, finding out what you like and who you are... Well. It was nice, for a time.

Peccantum still has his own clothes but he's aware that what Alastor dressed him in is his uniform.

6. Who owns Alastor's soul?

Tbh, I think it's Lilith. Maybe that's the obvious answer but like... That's the only viable candidate we have rn.

Peccantum would be suspecting Lilith and Lucifer, mainly because of the specifics of the deal Alastor made with Charlie. He didn't take her soul, meaning there's some benefit to having her free.... Or the more likely option; Alastor can't. Whatever deal he's under restricts him from taking Charlie's soul. The only people Peccantum knows who care about Charlie enough to fuck with the Radio Demon would be her parents.

I think he would lean more towards Lucifer, though. It would explain the immediate hostility between him and Alastor. Lucifer's ignorance could be feigned to piss off Alastor even more.

However, Peccantum would also keep evidence for Adam and maybe some of the seven deadly sins on the board. He doesn't have enough evidence for them, but he's not going to dismiss those options just yet.

7. Dress up day

Peccantum doesn't own a lot of clothes but he has explored a few other outfits! Here's some of the sketches I made when exploring what he would wear before he came to the hotel.

I do imagine there would be a 'express yourself through clothing choices' activity he would get wrapped up in tho. He can wear just about anything and still look pretty good. Charlie's happy to see Peccantum embracing different styles and exploring! Angel might help pick outfits and push Peccantum out of his comfort zone.

8. Makeup

Peccantum does wear makeup! It's actually pretty new for him, so he's not the best with it and he doesn't go too extreme but... It's kinda fun!

9. Spice or no spice?

I. I have no idea tbh. I'm not an expert in... people flavoring? XD

10. Jumping at shadows

Did you misspell trauma as talents? XD, joking. In all seriousness though, Peccantum is fairly jumpy because he's high strung. He's a very anxious person in general (there are exceptions) and he's in his own head a lot. Sometimes he will forget that other people are there and be surprised when he is reminded of their presence.

11. Errands to Cannibal Colony

Peccantum definitely keeps his head down. Cannibalism in general makes him uneasy, so best to keep out of the way of any hungry citizens who want to try their luck. Peccantum can defend himself, but he'd rather not if he can avoid it. Cannibals travel in packs and the best way to avoid them is to avoid putting a target on your back.

Thankfully, most people there know he's Alastor's, so they leave him be.

12. Alastor and Peccantum

This one is tricky because I wanna explore this more in other comics, but I'll try and give a general overview here.

Their relationship isn't... Healthy. Especially not at first, but Peccantum coming to the hotel does actually put him in a better place. He meets new people, gains friends, and makes a support network that he never had before. On the other hand, he has to deal with Alastor, the constant anxiety of job performance, and deal with/unpack several traumas he's been repressing. It's a mix of good and bad.

Later on, a few months after working at the hotel, I think Alastor does start to warm up to Peccantum some. They become friendlier, not to the point of being friends, but Alastor appreciates the work Peccantum does and trusts him with tasks that he wouldn't have beforehand. By the time the attack on the hotel happens, he trusts Peccantum won't screw him over.

And then the fight with Adam happens.

We don't know what will happen in season 2, and we probably won't for a while, but... I imagine losing that fight with Adam did not help Alastor's insecurities. Personally, I think the Radio Demon is going to close himself off from the others, more than he already has. To feel in control again, he's going to be a lot more strict with his 'employees' and a lot less lenient with Peccantum.

Peccantum, of course, isn't going to know this and would take it as a sign that he's failing Alastor, something he's deathly afraid of. His anxiety would spike and the almost neutral relationship he had with Alastor would turn unhealthy again. There would be a regression of progress.

Whatever happens in season 2 would def affect their relationship tho, so I can't say much more than that for now.

you're welcome!!!! also, i am Not a social media person At All (i'm a tumblrina through and through). the only reason i have an instagram, really, is to message friends/family who almost exclusively message people through instagram for some reason lol

+ (overly-detailed) storytime about instagram research under the cut (since i'm using your ask to take a trip down memory lane...)

back in 2021, with tremendous help from @carninator-blog (who was equally as interested in the "MotA Cast Investigation"), i managed to cobble together a growing list of cast and crew members (sometimes, i was faster than imdb lol). instagram was the Key tho, like it was INVALUABLE! if you found one person, they might post a story that shows Another person with them and, if you recognized That person, then you could find Their profile (if they had one). and so on and so forth.

anyway, it's a lot easier to do the instagram stuff now (can you believe i mainly use it for "research"). i browse the search term "mastersoftheair" and have retired the rest: "mota" (too much weed lmao), "masteroftheair" (an easy typo, but no one makes that mistake anymore), and "whirlwind" (production name which yielded 1 result out of like. 50 or more). i even had to download an old version of the instagram app bc they just HAD to get rid of the "recent" tab which is crazy inconvenient! that's where all the timely information is!!

another thing. a few guys straight up Do Not have an instagram profile (....like nate mann. it'd be hypocritical of me to not respect it but come onnnnnnn, nate mann!!) and, while some guys Do have a profile, they never post anything about MotA Ever (like fionn o'shea). further- some guys don't have a profile anymore, but they used to (like kai alexander). some guys have a private one (valid. also callum turner), some guys suddenly got Verified some time inbtwn the production and the premiere (the elliot(t)s), and some guys changed their user name (like josiah cross). every once in a long while, i have to go update my cast/crew instagram profile list on google docs with all the names and links and GODDDD i sound like a weirdass stalker now that i've put this all into words, but believe me when i say i'm very much not invested in any of the actors' personal lives!! i try to keep it as professional as i can (everything's sourced, like an archive). i'm only ever looking for the MotA stuff, Exclusively.

additionally, a lot of behind the scenes pics and videos would Only get posted in cast members' stories. if i missed that 24hr window, i'd never see it again (unless they decided to put them on their profile), so, i'd check their instagram profiles Every Day whenever i was free. on the bright side tho, a lot of them were Fantastic behind the scenes pics/videos and "watching" the production of this show from afar (through instagram, of all things) was a lot of fun in the midst of pandemic anxieties and boredom (go check my 'video' tag if you're ever in the mood for some on-set cast shenanigans!)

while i'm here tho, i've gotta say that while keeping up with the cast back then was fun the Vast majority of the time (if nothing else, it gave me something to do during the chaos of 2021/22), i had a sorta anxiety about it sometimes wrt the, idk, "sensitivity" of the content. it was very NDA This, NDA That. i figured, "well, if they already posted it in their stories, it's probably fine" until one of the cast members Literally made a whole tumblr account and very kindly asked if i could please remove a few of the pics i posted of him bc he technically wasn't allowed to post them in the first place, so having them Out There could get him in trouble! i was SOOOO embarrassed about it and i felt Awful about the possibility of him getting in trouble all thanks to some hyper-observant internet rando (thankfully, tumblr is famously lowkey. it'd be different if it was as popular as twitter lol). after that incident, i had this semi-anxiety about "should i post this pic or just That one? should i Not post this?? should i download/save them and post them after there's a big announcement of some kind??? where's the line?!! What Do Now???!!". it didn't help matters when, in the MotA behind the scenes facebook page, a bunch of really cool set pictures would sometimes get deleted within an hour bc Whoops! the poster actually wasn't allowed to share those (and, even if i'd already downloaded them before they got wiped, would i be able to post them, despite being under no such NDA myself? or would i get another mysterious DM?)

but that's all in the past, now! i'm pretty sure i've posted Every Single One of those behind the scenes pics/videos, provided i downloaded them in time. if not, sometimes the (finally active) MotA subreddit has my back lol.

further, looking for Any MotA content during from 2021 to 2023 came with acknowledging the eventual "droughts" (what i nicknamed them) where it'd be a good while before i saw anything new at all. bc of this, i have a legitimate soft spot for certain cast members who posted a lot of updates/pics/videos Wayyyy before we even got the first teaser (s/o to luke coughlan, louis greatorex, jordan coulson, josh bolt, and josiah cross for keeping hope alive)

joywave, one of my favorite bands put out a experimental collab album. it's taking a bit to grow on me but i do like The Carousel. this man is simply having a fucking blast on this fucking carousel. starts off with some synth..stings??? that feel very much like they could back a mall fashion show. or, better yet, imagine a 2005 chick flick about a small town girl moving to the big apple and accidentally becoming a supermodel. this would be the backing track when she finally nails her walk. spotlights, sophistication through understated vibes, frictionless, etc. spotify.

shotgunned five volumes of spy x family sunday night and i am now deeply invested in this simp. this is just a very silly slowburn slice of life. epitome of curtainfic

gave Afro Samurai (2007, Gonzo) the ol' two-episode try and simply was not vibing. it more than delivers on the samurai and afro parts of its title and is very stylish (complimentary). i think it deserves its emmys, it has a really lovely sense of constant motion without getting muddy and the fights are fun to watch. the sprinkling of high-tech futurism in what would otherwise be a very ordinary samurai anime is fun.

however it is SIGNIFICANTLY gorier than i expected.

if you looked at these screencaps and thought "hey that sounds like something Samuel L Jackson would say" congrats he's in this, bc it was 2007 and we had not yet exhausted our appetite for making Samuel L Jackson say things like this. we must also remember it is from 2007, so it rates VERY highly on the weeb portion of the Weeb-Ass-Shit scale.

that specific combo of gory weeb shit simply wasn't the mood on friday night and i don't think i'll come back to it. not for me! sad! oh well there's other anime!

how'd i find this: the wonders of tubi

organ attack is a medical-themed last-one-standing card game where each person starts out with four organs and a hand of five attack and defense cards. most are tailored towards a specific organ (eg the NOSEBLEED card i pulled first) but some are more general like CANCER or NECROSIS. it took about an hour with six people bc it got down to a real drag-out nasty threeway fight at the very end. the style is what you see on the box and is not gross-out nasty.

hysterically fun to play with a bunch of nurses, and even if you don't have an established friendgroup of nurses to insert yourself into it's very funny to say shit like "i'm giving your teeth cancer, hand 'em over". if you are playing with normal able-bodied folks i would not recommend saying "haha i have that!" every time someone puts a relevant card down. the normies really didn't like that.

in between their Big Important cases bruce and the gang take the time to invest in small-scale crime, and for this month it’s to address how police officers keep shaking down food trucks for bribes so that they won’t arrest them or throw their food out claiming it’s a health and safety violation, all of that kind of misery.

everyone loves their late-night food trucks, so they’re like ok we gotta address this, and jason is tasked to go undercover bc he’s the only one who’s a reasonably good cook, and because despite being a 6′3 tank-built man, out of uniform he’s got good-boy energy so For Sure all the elderly aunties selling tamales and chupe and the gruff uncles selling falafels and chicken-and-rice will include him in their fold and tell him what/who to watch out for

b drops by regularly as a civvy ostensibly to get his favourite shrimp po’boy w spicy slaw, but really it’s because he’s a disaster and despite them being in an established relationship he’s more comfortable flirting and being affectionate as Bruce Wayne The Man The Myth, and jason thinks this is insane but is also 100% smitten whenever he purposely makes bruce’s order too spicy and the man’ll stand there w his eyes watering and go ‘this is delicious and also you are the best thing that’s ever happened to me’

this p much becomes Date Night for them, and bruce always shows up around 5:30 and is always gone by seven at the latest, which Crooked Cop Men notice. couple of weeks in CCM show up at 8 PM, tossing over carts and threatening to arrest the illegal immigranty-looking ones (their words), and jason’s there working real hard not to tear a CCM’s throat out through his nose and he’s raging and raging and raging and he has access to a cleaver when the Big Boss comes to survey his lil cart and jason WILL choose violence, he’s on a hair trigger ready to explode and-

and there bruce is, looking handsome and rumpled in a 3-piece suit with a relaxed smile that’s all teeth in the eyes. ‘hey my guy’ he says to a police officer who’s got a gun but also looks like a startled chihuahua when he’s grabbed around the collar by a man famous for making out w JLo in his undies who now looks like he’s ripped people’s throat out through their noses, ‘funny ol’ thing you guys are doing, here at my favourite food truck corner. who gave you guys the order to terrorise some good honest Gothamites? don’t worry about telling me the answer, i’m sure you have warrants and orders etc., but lucky us that half of WE’s legal team are here for dinner tonight, hey? so you all can have a fun little chat haha. oh, no, this isn’t all of them, maggie and corena and shehreen are by a few, oh, hoho, a few of your cars, in fact, for being illegally parked in disabled parking spots. what a conundrum. still, i’m sure you’re not doing anything illegal.’

and he’s still smiling and he still sounds jocular but the lawyers are descending like wolves unto lame caribou and the CCM are scattering but their cars are being towed As We Speak and bruce is just there and calm and still and Smiling and he’s like ‘i’m surer that if you were doing something illegal, oh, that you will regret it, won’t you, officer insert-name-here? on private property too, isn’t that a doozy.’

it’s like a rhetorical question but it comes out as a threat, and it’ll come to pass that the little park’s always been private property (bruce’s) and he sues the pants off of the Crooked Cop Men and they sure!! did!! regret it!!

throughout this exchange jason is white-knuckling his cleaver bc if anyone pulls a gun out on bruce to scare him jason’s 101% ready to pay them back 100-fold, but bruce’s inexorable calmness has the situation under control so mostly jason’s thinking ‘this man looks good in streetlight’ and ‘i’d eat cured ham off almost any part of his body’

anyways in an effort to make sure food trucks that aren’t on wayne land also aren’t facing harassment jason opens his lil sandwich foodtruck at different locations at random and b keeps on being a lovestruck dumbass cosplaying as a lovestruck dumbass who keeps coming after him and the punchline is that jason’s undercover name is dominic exclusively so that his business can be called ‘dom’s subs’ and the week after b takes down 5 of GCPD’s worstest he puts up a menu item called ‘dom’s best (po’)boy’ but it’s not a menu item it’s just a picture of bruce and it’s disgusting/embarrassing/terrible but it also becomes a meme for people to take a picture under bruce’s picture and tag it with ‘god i wish that were me 🙏’

and now that i’ve thrown all this at u there’s little chance i’ll actually write it down, but despite how i’ve described it the bulk of it would have been jason making his lil sandwiches for bruce 😌 also knowing me there also would have been so choking somehow somewhere in there but i hope this bare-bones account of lovestruck food truck shenanigans is everything you thought it would be ;)

finished ssr so now i'll post these... why was i so invested in making this. it gave me stress digging through the chapters

keeping track of the differences i notice in the anime vs what i've read in the manga

1. chocolat and vanilla's class

in the manga, they were in different classes

chocolat was in 5A while vanilla was in 5B. however, in the anime, they were both in 5A which i presume was for it to be more convenient to add in filler episodes regarding their school life

2. these pierre scenes

these were from as early as ch. 2 right after rockin robin told chocolat about the piss coloured hearts. it's giving antagonist vibes. as of now, i've watched 4 episodes. haven't seen these animated yet so i presume the anime is just giving him the ~cool, popular senior student~ image for the start of the series, they'll get to the antagonist part later

'i met a girl today.' yeah you met cerunos' (cinnamon) daughter

3. vanilla's first heart(s)

in the manga, it was when she met akira and hiroshi and the reason his heart was orange was bc he saw her panties 💀 idk if this is in the anime but i don't want it. in the anime, she got her first few from some of her classmates after their PE lesson

4. when they got their familiars

in the anime, it was as early as ep 2. duke's first appearance was in ch 5 of the manga when the prank took place. the actual summoning for their familiars only took place in ch 6 after chocolat and vanilla got the basic wand to look further in the catalog.

5. chocolat indirecting pierre

this was during nishitani's interview with chocolat in the manga. unfortunately, we couldn't get this scene in the anime as chocolat had not met pierre during lunch. in the anime, pierre still walks past them during the interview. chocolat glances at him but says she has no ideal type :v

oh and chocolat didn't have to conjure a ghost for him like in the anime he just went back to the club room and everyone made up

6. presence of transformation and wand usage for picking up hearts

i only realised this when they were going through the magic item catalog in the manga and was like 'oh, they didn't have a wand?? fr?' using an example from the manga when chocolat takes nishitani's heart she is seen in her uniform casting the spell:

in the anime, they'll do their magical girl transformation before casting the spell

7. chocolat's return to the magic world

we're going back very early in the anime (ep 7) as compared to the manga (ch 10) we're missing a few things in between regarding the manga. what happens in both media was totally different though like in the anime, vanilla also comes to the magic world to save chocolat and chocolat gets cinnamon's diary from queen candy. but in the manga, she learns about the ogres. also in the manga, cinammon's diary was seen with chocolat in ch 1 so we can infer that it has always been in her possession

8. when a green heart is introduced

in the manga, it was shown in ch 23 and in the anime, it was in ep 9 (quite the jump but it's quite fitting for akira's relationship with chocolat)

9. timing of when houx and saule join moegi academy

manga: sometime after vanilla joins the ogres

anime: after the anime-exclusive midterm when chocolat organised the sugar rune festival ft. bonus tennis match against pierre

10. the heart-shaped hairpin

in the anime, chocolat bought it from the magical catalogue when vanilla told her about the item but in the manga, it was a gift from queen candy from the time when chocolat crashed the palace roof.

vanilla was supportive of chocolat in the anime since she wanted to help her friend. her behaviour was the opposite in the manga as 1. it was something from queen candy and 2. chocolat's sudden appearance ruined her own chance to get sasaoka's heart

chocolat's self realisation that she needs to put in effort in the manga vs how she needed robin to point it out for her to realise it in the anime

some spoiler-y thoughts about tears of the kingdom thus far:

-FUCK GLOOM HANDS. i hate that everyone at nintendo saw our fear of spooky grabby hands and said “fuck yeah lets keep doing this forever”. i’m tired of being groped by very old men goddamnit! and then some of them turn into Phantom Ganon???? holy shit, that is a difficult fight. 80% of my deaths in the game so far have been at the hands(no pun intended) of these fuckers.

-ZELDA TURNED HERSELF INTO A FUCKING DRAGON AND I SOBBED LIKE A BABY. bruh i was not ready. SHE SACRIFICED HERSELF and her personality! but like, i havent finished all the main quests even though i got all the dragon tears/memory things so like, if Zelda IS a dragon, then who the fuck is showing up all around hyrule looking like her? is Mr. Dorf doing an evil magic to look like her like in that one memory? that can’t possibly be the case for all of the Zelda sightings. i’m so confused but so fucking intrigued.

-seriously though, watching Zelda sacrifice herself in order to save Hyrule and support Link is so upsetting. this girl was 16 the day the Calamity hit, and she hasn’t known a moment’s peace since then. give a bitch a break! but hey, at least she’s doing stuff in this one, whereas in most Zelda games, she’s just.... kidnapped.

-SIDON’S ENGAGEMENT STORY IS BULLSHIT. there is ZERO evidence of any other kingdoms existing for Zora outside of the Domain in Lanayru that King Dorephan rules over, it’s JUST to piss off people who ship Sidon with Link and that’s incredibly homophobic and annoying(especially since i had to fucking rewrite an entire part of my OC’s story due to it). and like, i feel bad, bc Yona seems like a lovely character, but she’s going to be HATED in the fanbase bc of the bad writing.

-speaking of questionable writing, there’s still so much i’m very fucking confused about. TotK obviously takes place several years after BotW, but they don’t specify how many and it creates a lot of confusion. why have some characters obviously aged up but some are still basically the same age? like, Hudson and Rhondson have a child who’s old enough to be sent back to Gerudo town, but Finley never hit her growth spurt(even though she clearly stated last game she was old enough to have supposed to hit it by botw)? what the fuck is that about?

-also, WHERE THE FUCK DID THE DIVINE BEASTS GO????? you can’t re-bury four fucking giant robot constructs in the span of maybe a decade, especially with Ganondorf reviving and creating a massive earthquake that unearths a fuckton of other shit. like, not having the Sheikah Slate i get(which is why the Purah Pad exists), and all the shrines and towers probably went back underground, but that part makes no goddamn sense and i don’t like it.

-i’m kinda sad Teba wasn’t the Sage of Wind and instead it was his son, Tulin. he really only got to shine in Age of Calamity, and most Zelda fans didn’t even play it bc it’s non-canon. the disrespect on my poor mans.

-i do love that so many of the towns are under new leadership now. it really feels like the world is evolving in that aspect. Teba and Paya being in charge of their respective towns is lovely to me.

-i love the idea that Link gave Zelda the house he dumped literally thousands of rupees into in Hateno, but like. where did he live? did they sleep together in the same bed? it’s implied Link no longer has a house bc you can make your “dream home” in Tarrey Town or w/e but like, ????? what’s that all about? Zelda just kicked Link’s ass out and made a secret room in the home HE invested in lmao, typical royal colonizer behavior(joking)

-i love that Grante, Robbie and Jerrin’s son, changed his name to Granteson so he could work for Bolson Construction. that’s genuinely adorable. he was already one of my fav tertiary characters just bc he’s Robbie’s son but this makes me like him even more. i also love that Jerrin is involved with stuff at the Lookout Landing! let Robbie’s wifey take care of stuff. even if it’s just cleaning. give her something to do besides glower at a machine her husband built lol.

-Kohga being still alive is hysterical, and the Yiga clan evolving to live partially underground is a lovely touch. them taking over old abandoned areas in the game is great as well. i also love that they flat-out do the “leave Mighty Bananas on the ground as bait to lure in unsuspecting victims” bit bc that’s EXACTLY how i imagined my OC fought them in BotW. i totally headcanon they stole that idea from her.

-tbh i’m kind of enjoying exploring the depths more than i am the sky islands. maybe it’s the fear of heights, or maybe it’s just that i really like that it wasn’t advertised at all. i thought it was just gonna be land and sky, but no! we’re going underground too babey~

-i love the addition of caves, wells, and other underground spaces. it makes a lot of sense for a game like this to have these things, and it makes me kinda sad they weren’t really a thing in the last one.

-the fusing thing is just okay. they didn’t really fix the issue people had with durability in the last game, so that’s annoying, but it is fun to make new weapons out of things at least.

-overall i really like the game so far. even though it’s a world most people have explored through already, there’s enough change and new content to make it fresh and engaging, and even though there’s another crisis, it’s heartwarming to see how people are finally being able to rebuild after the century-long crisis that was the Calamity. i’ve beaten one boss character so far(the Rito one) and i’m looking very forward to the rest!

13. how did i get into the game

it's complicated. it released about a month after i got into love live so i remember seeing it trend and stuff bc by then my twt account was so catered to idol shit. i kinda forgot about it after that until i started playing bandori in july 2021. i was looking for other rhythm games to play since i liked sif so much and was enjoying bandori, so i watched some videos and project sekai came up in one. i thought it looked cool so i checked the app store and it wasn't listed. i searched project sekai on youtube anyway to see what was going on, came across this video, discovered it was a vocaloid game and then was like "oh nvm then idc about vocaloid", and a couple weeks later downloaded d4dj because they mentioned it in that video and i got interested.

fast forward to november i'm not very good at d4dj and getting kinda tired of it. i get a video on my feed of someone playing the ensekai demo and i watched it bc idk maybe me wanting to play tap tap games overrules my dislike of vocaloid. thought it looked alright had a look to see if i could prereg and it wasn't compatible with my android phone so i gave up again. but the universe is stubborn and the sonic twitter account posted about there being a free sonic costume and i was like who cares i want the sonic costume and turns out the game works on a spare iphone i had lying about. it took me about 2 months to actually get invested in the game after that but yeah in short project sekai got me into d4dj which got me into project sekai and also there was a sonic costume.

Since I’m visiting back home I have stolen borrowed my sister’s switch to play Pokemon and animal crossing, and that, of course, got me thinking about if Pokemon existed in the avatar universe, which ones would my OCs have

(Up front, I don’t see either of them going into competitive championships, too much shit going on in their lives to even consider it. Oh, and also, my knowledge of Pokemon comes entirely from my sister infodumping, me watching the entire first season of the anime twice, getting a bit too invested in Hanamusa fanart and playing Y, Moon and Shield (never getting to the end of a single one rip) so keep that in mind)

For Midori I feel like she’d have the ones that she could naturally find in the backyard while doing gardening or other work – oddish and bellsprout and budew and the like. Maybe a sandshrew or caterpie or rattata. I’m completely obsessed with eeveelutions so if she had an eevee, it’d evolve into a sylveon bc of how much love Midori has to give. Starter-wise, if she had one despite not doing competitive battling, definitely a bulbasaur, but since she doesn’t use it for anything but help around the garden it probably wouldn’t ever evolve, though they’re both okay with that. And I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t shoehorn some angst in, so before the RL left for the South Pole, Ghazan gave Midori his camerupt for safe keeping, saying it would protect her in case she needed it. She hides the pokeball with it from Haya and only lets it out of she knows no one will see her, terrified Haya would do something to such a blatant reminder of her brother

Suiren’s a bit harder since she has enough to worry about without getting a bunch of animals involved, but theoretically, I’m thinking squirtle for a starter that she has managed to evolve into a wartortle but not further yet. Eeveelution wise vaporeon would be the obvious choice but with her cold nature I think she’d invest in an ice stone instead and get a glaceon. I like to imagine that while she was travelling for a mission one day she ran across an absol in the mountains and took it home despite knowing the rumours it was a bringer of disasters and a bad omen (she relates to it, but you couldn’t waterboard that out of her). Maybe she found a yanma in the swamp at some point and kept it once she found out how cool its evolution looks. Likewise, she found a phantump and, remembering how phantumps come to be, couldn’t bear the thought of leaving it (and, well, its evolution and how it controls trees through roots reminds her of the swamp). Back with the angst, she inherited her mom’s milotic (Ming-Hua was a kid when she found the ugliest fucking fish she’d ever seen in a swamp lake and snuck it food. It warmed up to her and eventually she stole a pokeball and caught it. Fast forward a few years and it suddenly became the most gorgeous pokemon in existence. Shit happens). She hides it too but once she learned how to navigate the swamp she takes it to that very lake.

Suiren leaves her pokemon with Midori when she goes on missions, not wanting to endanger them, and every time Midori is scared that those pokemon will end up being the last things she has left of her sister, just like the camerupt and milotic are the last things left of her parents

What usually helps me when I’m sick is watching my favorite shows for the Millionth time 😂! Sometimes it just makes me feel better even though I’ve already seen it and I know what happens. Also my pets make me feel better too lol, I remember one time (a few years ago) I had really bad Bronchitis and I couldn’t sleep laying down and had to sleep sitting up since I couldn’t really breathe. Well at night, one of my cats would follow me to bed and would stare at me until I fell asleep (ik it’s kinda creepy agwjwjs 😆) and when I would wake up he’d have his head laying on my chest. So I gave him the nickname “Night Nurse” because it was like he was a nurse lol!

Now onto the HC’s hehe! The only one I have right now is for Finral tho 😅.

I imagine Finral is a momma hen and worries about everyone when they’re sick. He tries his best to cook them chicken noodle soup and makes sure their fevers are done, he gives them a comunication device so that way they can contact him whenever they need something. Once Finral is the one sick, the Black Bulls show just how much they love and care about him by taking care of him just as well as he took care of them!

Your cat sounds adorable! I often joke that my dog acts more like a cat than a dog (i.e. she likes to hide from people, prefers to lounge around, and doesn't make a lot of noise), but even she won't jump up on beds. That's so cute!! 🥰

It's so nice to have those comfort shows you can just go back to and watch when you need a pick-me-up! I tend to watch a lot of baking shows when I'm looking for something for positive and relaxing. Even though I usually can't eat anything they're making, I appreciate the art of it, and I think I just get too invested (and then stressed out) about a lot of my other favorite tv. For instance, I was thinking about going back and rewatching some of my favorite Black Clover episodes recently, but then I had this really vivid (yet total random) mental image of Mother Nature from the really old Rankin-Bass "Year Without a Santa Claus." There's this scene where she's just trying to have a good time and have tea and keep really positive, but she is getting increasing frustrated with her bickering sons who refuse to get along with each other...and, in a way, I feel like that's me when I watch my favorite BC episodes. 😅😂 [My stupid, stupid boys! 💚💙]

Anyway that was a major digression, but speaking of the spatial mage brothers... your Finral headcanon is so wholesome! It made me smile so much! He'd make such an attentive and kind nurse for his sick friends, and yes, you're absolutely right he would worry so much about them until they got better. I love this idea of yours about the communicator especially. I can just picture him literally running when he's called or thinks he's needed and just completely fogetting that he could actually just portal right there.😅😂 He's such a goofball especially when he's worried about his friends, I think, but it's very sweet and very endearing.

One of my favorite things about Finral really is just how kindhearted and generous he is. He really does spend so much time and effort taking care of everyone else, and I really don't think there's even a question about it for him--he's just such a naturally generous person who'd really give his friend the shirt off his back if he thought they needed it more than he did. For that reason, it really warms my heart to think about what would happen in the reverse when Finral is the one who is sick and his friends get the opportunity to take care of him. I love this idea that you shared that his friends would all want to take the opportunity to kind of pay him back for taking such good care of them, and it really is nice to imagine Finral being the one being doted on for a change. He really does deserve it (though hopefully he doesn't stay sick for too long)!

We know how at this point it can be considered canon that maedhros raised all his brothers (and probably was designated babysitter for most of the cousins as well) but i like to go a bit further and think that he didn't only help watch them but actively taught and supported each one of them....

We know that he isn't really known for having a single great talent like Curvo or Maglor, so i like to imagine he just went and learned a bit of everything in order to indulge his baby brothers.

Listening to all of Maglors first attempts at songwriting and harmonizing with him, even tho he sometimes doesn't quite hit the notes perfectly and maglor will chew him out for it.

Showing how to make the best arrows and fishing hooks to Tyelco and probably also treating all the little scrapes the kid got while running around in the woods all day. Up to the point where the only thing he can still keep up is fishing bc when did this boy get so fast?!

At first still helping Carantir with equations until the poor boy has to explain every single step to maedhros. Mae gave in after that and just started to sneak out trade contracts for Moryo to look through as long as the kid wants. He's also there and let's Moryo throw a tantrum every time his baby bro gets overwhelmed by his emotions again or was called weird for not playing with other kids.

Curufin gets a lot of support from their dad already but we know how immersed Feanor can get in his projects and how much of a perfectionist he is. So Mae makes sure they regularly eat and hydrate. He keeps every single trinket Curvo ever made (for him) and tries to help when he is in a creative low by asking for the the most incredulous things, starting with a set of jewelry that looks so hideous Curvo straight out refuses to work on it and ending with little inventions to make everyday life easier (thats how the handheld mixer was invented).

We don't really have a lot of info about the twins, but as far as i remember they were the only of their kind until Elrued and Elruin, so i head canon them to be some kind of novelty that ppl sometimes stared at and noone really understood. When they get overwhelmed they take a page out of Carantirs book and come to their oldest brother, who showers them with love and reassurances until they stop being insecure about relying on each other so much. There is a time while they grow up where they try to distance a bit bc they think that they should become more independent but Mae kind of hunts them down with a giant plate of soufflé pancakes and they just.... Come out and tell him about their problems again (from then on there is always something sweet for the deep talks). Mae gets really invested in researching osanwe for a time bc of them and helps them create a mindspace of their own as well.

(the knowledge about his first twins helps a lot with raising elros and elrond later, even though it takes some time until he can share his experiences or even look at his second set of twins without his throat getting too tight to talk)

These are absolutely wonderful hcs and I, too, see Maedhros as the very caring and over-protective older brother/mother hen/often father figure to his siblings. I like to imagine that while Nerdanel is a wonderful mother, Feänor is...complicated (much like him and everything else) so Mae kind of ends up stepping in sometimes.

lately i've been thinking of a crack scene where phil beefs with a crow as a bat. think it'd be funny. bonus if wilbur is there (as a bat) just watching phil struggle LMAO

tommy would toootally ask for techno to train him in the arts of being a vampire before he really knows the textbook definition of one. then he gets kinda spooked off (while still asking to be trained in fighting)

one time tommy borrows (and cuts) one of techno's old-timey clothing (post reveal) without knowing exactly what it was cause the man never wore it, like, ever. wilbur overhears techno talking about it and immediately traces it to tommy. spoiler alert they both work together to dispose of it (meaning wilbur goes bat mode and they bury it. far away.)

phil after getting so attached to tommy genuinely looks for ways to turn tommy without biting him. he gets so invested. like knee deep into research. turns out there's nothing and tommy doesn't really want to be turned just yet.

in this au i'm rolling with just stomachs and no storage so if tommy ever gets stored he's falling into a shit ton of blood (does that mean techno noms him? :D)

My pipeline was I was looking up building tutorials For Babies and I found Grian and then I watched all of his tutorials and was. Stubbornly avoiding hermitcraft bc it looked like something that was Super Popular And Mainstream and I have ADHD Hipster Brain, but eventually I gave in and then I watched him (briefly branching out to Mumbo and Iskall) until he died in demise and bc I'd become Emotionally Invested in him it kinda Did A Trauma so I fled to Cleo and Joe, and then I started watching Scar and through Cleo I found TFC and got hooked on his Vibes bc his vibes are how I remember my late grandad and he's very cozy. And by the end of s6 I was watching Ren, and then by his Star Wars arc of season 7 I was watching his streams and fulfilling a Special Role with my poetic skills that I had honed from watching Joe and now I watch uhhh about half a dozen hermits? No definitely more than that bc I watch all of the ladies and a good number of the lads so probably around a dozen and I actually Don't Watch Grian anymore because his tendency to Cause Problems On Purpose just feels a slight bit mean to me now I'm older lol

Grian's tendency to cause problems on purpose is a) highly relatable to me as also a Problem Causer, and b) only works because you can tell he's very good friends with everyone he causes problems for. And pesky friends who show love through teasing and minor inconveniences are my favorite type. (glances significantly at Darkle and Lelila. XD)

books I read in May

I had a very exciting month! I graduated college, which was pretty cool. Proud new owner of a Bachelor of Arts in Media. So now I’m trying to figure out what to do with my life and all that good stuff.

Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Our comfort books pick us, and for some reason this is mine. It looks good for my mental health that this is the first time this year I’ve read this. It’s Ronan Farrow’s book about his investigation into Harvey Weinstein. It’s emotional, and funny, and infuriating. It always makes me feel better when I’m stressed and upset (There’s actually really interesting media effects research into why upsetting media makes us feel better if anyone cares. If you’re really anxious or stressed, watch a horror movie or something and it actually might help you feel better. I won’t tho bc I hate scary movies. I’ll just read this book.)  (non-fiction)

Davos Man by Peter S. Goodman ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book is about all the ways billionaires are hurting the world. It talks about the different ways that they’re able to manipulate the political and economic system to profit and prevent anyone from interfering with this process. It was published recently, so it included a section on covid-19 and how for-profit healthcare hindered the global pandemic response as well as how billionaires were able to profit from the crisis. This was the most interesting section to me since it was so recent. (non-fiction)

The Nightworkers by Brian Selfon ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I almost hesitate to criticize this book, because I don’t actually think there’s anything wrong with it, it’s just really not to my taste. It’s about a family in Brooklyn who runs a money laundering scheme, and one of their runners is killed and 250,000 dollars goes missing. The plot was good, and by the time I was about half-way through, I was invested in it. It used a really poetic, artistic writing style that was non-traditional, especially for this kind of plot. I don’t like that kind of style, the sort of verbose lit-fic thing. It’s just not for me. (adult fiction). 

Lord Edgware Dies by Agatha Christie ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this one. I feel like this was the Poirot, Hastings, Japp dynamic perfected.  Sometimes Christie’s mystery’s are a little clever, but I felt like this one was more accessible. I had a general sense of how it might be solved. The whole premise was just really fun. (adult fiction)

Eight Hundred Grapes by Laura Dave ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a family drama about a woman who is a week from her wedding when she discovers her fiance has been keeping a huge secret from her. She returns to her family’s vineyard, trying to decide what to do about the wedding, only to find the whole family is also having problems. I thought it was fine. My mom gave it to me because she loved it, but I just never really got into it. I don’t love Laura Dave’s writing style, and I never connected with any of the characters. Maybe I’m just not at a point in my life where any of their struggles resonated or compelled me. When my mom gave me the book, she also gave me a bottle of biodynamic wine, since that is what the vineyard in the book makes, and the wine was really good, so there’s that. (adult fiction)

We Wish to Inform you the Tomorrow we will be Killed with our Families by Phillip Gourevitch ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This has been on my tbr list forever, and it was really great. I read it so fast, and I sort of regret it because it’s the kind of book that feels like it deserves a deep read, but it was super good, and I didn’t want to put it down. It’s about the genocide in Rwanda that happened in the 90s. It also talks about the influence of colonization on Rwanda and the failings of international organizations in their attempts to help Rwanda. (non-fiction). 

Greenwich Park by Katherine Faulkner ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I can’t decide how I feel about this book. It took me a little bit to really get into it, but then I got through about the last half really fast because I was really intrigued and wanted to know what everyone was hiding. I was interested in all the characters. That being said, it was just sort of weird. I think that sometimes domestic fiction can’t quite figure out how to make the stakes high enough, so authors create these out of place endings. Most of the book was this really intriguing slow-burn domestic thriller about a pregnant woman who meets an odd friend at a birthing class. But the end felt like it was from a different genre, and like the author couldn’t quite wrap it up without just explaining everything. If you read things in the domestic thriller genre, there’s no need to read this one too. Nothing special imo. (adult fiction)
