#snowtuft getting action for once

My hot warrior cats take of the day:
I think a Snowtuft super edition would probably be a very bad idea and I really hope they don’t do it.
Now, hear me out. I love Snowtuft, I love our little boy who can’t remember what he even did to send him to the pits of the Place of No Stars.
I also think that having a super edition that follows him in life in any capacity would be.. bad. I think it kind of destroys the emotional aspect that we feel in The Broken Code.
We have Snowtuft, who is working with the “good guys” because this is his home, this has been his home for as long as he can remember. He knows he was ShadowClan once, probably. But he also can’t remember what he even did to deserve this. A proper conclusion to this would have been amnesty and retrials, forgiveness and closure. But of course, we don’t get that. That would be asking for TOO MUCH from the warrior cats team.
But I think following him in life would lead to two different outcomes.
The first, and in my opinion most likely: Snowtuft is given a story where he is not the villain, and his actions did not drive his damnation to cat hell. He is the hero, or he feels bad for actions that the narrative tries to justify as “out of his control”. This, I feel, kinda cheapens his story in a sense. I feel like, if you take away the “bad” edge to Snowtuft, it takes from this sense that he is a bad cat that has been here so long, he cannot remember what even damned him. He isn’t good; but bad cats aren’t just bad. People can make good and bad decisions. Change and redemption are in the hands of those who seek it. Sometimes, one can die doing the wrong thing, and die again to make it right.
The other option is that they make him like eat kittens or something and it’s going to REALLY sour the whole perception on it. I feel like the best part of his story is the fact that we, like Snowtuft himself, have no knowledge of what landed him in the pits of hell. We can only judge him based off of what we know, and we know that he died to protect the heroes. His spirit is stardust along the galaxy, and the clans - the clans of today - can thank him for his sacrifice.
Now, if it followed his time in the Dark Forest, I might reconsider this anti-SE stance. But I feel like I’d rather have it as a novella or even a graphic novel. I’d rather see his thoughts and inner monologues during OotS and TBC, and that wouldn’t fit into a whole SE, I think. I think it would work much more concisely in a small story that doesn’t wander too much.
Anyway thanks for reading this far, here’s a handful of mini m&ms and my thanks

is there any difference between double dying and fading out after enough time has passed in the df or starclan? like do cats who fade get the double duplex or only cats who actively double die?
good question! what I’m thinking is that the cats who double-die because their spirits are killed are stuck in the duplex. the cats who fade from memory and disappear from the afterlife that way end up at the duplex but they can roam
the faded cats are more “at peace” since they had time to fade instead of being abruptly removed from what I’m imagining as the natural end of life in that world
the double-killed cats are free to leave the duplex once they’re at peace as well
which introduces a kind of sad idea actually - like if say snowtuft comes to terms with his past and how he’s changed because he’s in a supportive place now, that’s what allows him to leave that place (and that found family) behind if he chooses to.
I’m not 100% set on how that would work since I don’t want it to be like “forgive and forget your past and everything you’ve done.” I’m walking a fine line here that isn’t quite redemption stories all around
also, I really like the good place (which probably shows haha) so there’s an idea I’m borrowing from that (which I’m pretty sure was inspired by the concept of nirvana in buddhism, not 100% sure). it comes up towards the very end of the series though so I’ll put it under the cut in case anyone decides to watch it who hasn’t already
so that idea of the door that ends your afterlife and let’s you rejoin the universe or whatever and you don’t know what happens or what that feels like is what I’m thinking of!
like the double-killed duplex cats can’t leave the duplex even though they can spectate on the living world (and starclan and the dark forest and all the little afterlives too eventually).
but once someone is at peace with their actions in their life and afterlife and what’s happened to them and what they’ve done, they don’t start to fade but they’re free to leave the duplex.

Mountain Clans: StarClan & Dark Forest
Decided I would make a post describing how StarClan and the Dark Forest work in my fanclans! Some of the stuff in this post is inspired by various AUs, such as Smoltoxin's Snowtuft AU and @official-darkforest second death AU. There are also some others, but I can't think of them.
StarClan
StarClan is pretty similar to the StarClan in the books. Considered real but most Clan cats, they are believed to reside on the mist-shrouded mountaintop. They appear in several different ways, depending on where they are and how old they are.
Normal StarClan cats in the StarClan hunting grounds appear as they did in life, but slightly paler, with white stars frosting their fur. They often have a bit of glow around them, usually white, but sometimes pale purple or blue. Clusters of stars are more apparent around the area that caused the cat's death (such as a fatal wound), and as a spirit becomes older they slowly fade away until they become nothing but stars. Their eyes are glowy, with normal colored irises and white pupils.
StarClan cats (and spirits of the cats who have not yet "climbed the mountain," as the Clan cats say) who are walking among the clans appear misty and faded, with smaller, more faint clusters of stars that look like dew. Eyes are solid white.
Cats giving prophecies, walking in dreams, or giving lives to leaders are brighter in color, glow a lot, and have glowing, solid white eyes.
When a StarClan cat fades, they enter a world of silence and white. Their memories slowly fade away in a wave of calm, and the cat is reincarnated with no memory or connection to their past life.
Not all StarClan cats can give prophecies. Only medicine cats, great leaders, and exceptional warriors who had strong connections to StarClan and made a lasting impact on the Clans can give prophecies. Anyone, however, can give a life to a leader or visit dreams, though it takes a lot of energy and makes a cat fade faster.
StarClan cats are also responsible for naming warriors. Unlike in canon Warriors, leaders do not usually name a new warrior themselves. Instead, the leader, the medicine cat, an apprentice, and their mentor make the trek to the Starcave on the mountain. The tunnel leading to the Starpool is long and twisted, and is often used to test the resilience and intuition of medicine cat apprentices and new leaders. When the cats approach the Starpool, all of the cats share tongues with StarClan. StarClan tells the leader and medicine cat the new warrior's name, and the cat becoming a warrior is given any advice they need from StarClan cats. The mentor is there as an honor. When the cats awaken, the leader bestows the name StarClan chose to the new warrior. At sunrise, as they leave, the leader stands on the cliff and shouts the new name three times over the territories.

(Art by me)
The Dark Forest
The Dark Forest is horrible. The ground is slimy, and covered in a layer of cold, wet snow. The tall, spindly trees stretch up as far as you can see, and the sky is a vague, sickly red-purple. The only light comes from a vaguely glowing silvery mist that shrouds the ground and muffles sound. There is no prey, no warmth, and no comfort, and many walk their paths alone. It is harder to get into the Dark Forest than it is in the books, and only truly evil cats with no regret for the things they've done stay there.
Cats in the Dark Forest are a sickly, shadowy version of their former selves. Their fur is darker than in life, and dingy with filth. Their irises and mouths are black, with pupils a bright, burning version of their eye color in life. They are starved and miserable.
There is no prey to eat, and they are tormented with constant, vague hunger and thirst. They can sleep, but they get no rest. There is no warmth to be found anywhere. It is an afterlife of infinite wandering and despair.
Whatever caused their death (a fatal wound, or their innards if they died from natural causes) turns black and oozy, and slowly grows larger as the cat fades. When they are almost fully gone, they dissipate into the mist that fills the forest.
Dark Forest cats cannot usually contact cats from the outside. There are only two ways this can happen. One, they come across the StarClan border, where there is usually someone waiting to talk to them. Two, they find a cat who is alive wandering in the forest in their dreams. This happens when a living cat is experiencing a time in their life when their mind is turning against the Clans and StarClan. Once a cat is found in the Dark Forest, the cat who found them has a link into their thoughts and dreams. The third way is if a very powerful cat finds a way to appear in the living world. This is very rare.
When a cat who is going to go to the Dark Forest dies, they appear in a hazy white place. They see someone in their life who died that meant a lot to them, like a sibling, parent, mate, or kit. This happens in many ways, but if the cat regrets what they've done, they will revert back to a young cat, either a kit or apprentice or (rarely) a young warrior and go to StarClan. If they don't regret their actions, they find themselves in the Dark Forest. This makes it much harder to get in, and very deserving to the ones who are there.
I can't think of anything else to put and I don't feel like doing any illustrations, so this is all I have. Thanks for reading, if you have questions then asks are open! Check out the allegiances for my Clans and some character information by searching 'mountain clans' on my blog. I'm trying to figure out whether or not to make a separate blog for this stuff, so tell me if you're interested!

Okay so, there are a lot of cats that die and the writers just simply forget about them (for example uhhh ThrushPelt, he had an off-screen death and they never mentioned him again) Are those cats considered double dead?
If yes, I need to know more about ddd!ThrushPelt, I absolutely adore him
Ooh another question! What about Scourge? He's dead but his spirit was never mentioned. Is he considered duble dead?
I think whoever I/we feel like considering double-dead can be double-dead for the sake of the au!
these are both long-ish, so they’re under the cut! thrushpelt is first, then scourge. this is the first time I’ve focused on either of them, so these are introductions to who they are in the duplex au!
ddd!Thrushpelt
I love Thrushpelt too! I’ll say he died the first time before into the wild, and his spirit death was in the last hope battle against the dark forest.
I see him get compared to Mapleshade in terms of the best vs worst ways to react to unrequited (or in Mapleshade’s case, retracted) love. so they’ll be good narrative foils to each other.
Thrushpelt was also a little bit older than Crookedjaw when he was alive, so whenever he finds out about how Mapleshade manipulated him that would affect him a bit.
also, a lot of the cats who were villains to his family specifically are there in the duplex with him. tigerstar, who led the purge of half-clan cats and terrorized bluestar; darkstripe, who killed thrushpelt’s adoptive son stonefur; and pretty much everyone who gave thunderclan trouble in the first arc.
I imagine he’d be protective over firestar from starclan since bluestar took him in, watching over him as well as mistystar. he hated whenever thunderclan and riverclan were in conflict. he takes care of mosskit in starclan, and though he’s sad when stonefur joins their ranks he’s glad to make up for lost time with the adoptive son what earliest, vaguest memories are of being coddled in the nursery by him and bluefur.
he starts off in the duplex on his own — ever the bachelor. there are also a LOT of new residents from both sides of the dark forest battle. he reconnects with Spottedleaf, who was briefly his apprentice way back when. when she needs to complain about Ashfur or gush about Frecklewish, she goes to Thrushpelt.
Thrushpelt is good at coaxing the shyer/more reclusive duplex cats out of their shells. he connects with Redwillow (before he joins Snowtuft and Antpelt), surprising them both.
one night, Thrushpelt finds Darktail wandering the halls. he’s the first cat who manages to speak more than just a few words before the reclusive rogue takes off again. Thrushpelt doesn’t know much about Darktail at first, but he asks, and eventually Darktail tells him about Onestar, about how he should be here too, why isn’t he here?
Thrushpelt doesn’t let on at first that he actually knew Darktail’s father a bit in starclan. Darktail mostly likes to talk about himself, to wallow. to defend his actions. and Thrushpelt is appalled, but he keeps coming back to listen. to be there for him, less of a shoulder to cry on at first and more of an observer, the way you can’t get an awful headline or news clip out of your mind once you see it and you keep going back to learn more.
ddd!Scourge
early on, I said scourge is the landlord of the duplex. I don’t think that quite fits anymore. I’m not sure when he would’ve died his second death — maybe he stayed vengeful as a spirit and came after clan ghosts and starclan cats.
you know what would really hurt? if Jake took down Scourge’s spirit to protect Firestar and the clans — killing one son to protect the other.
Scourge hates to feel inferior, less than, the last choice.
learning that this protective ghost of firestar’s father is his own father too undoes him. his last, fading thought, the realization that the wretched firestar was his brother all along and their father chose him, sets him spiraling into a vengeful rage.
needless to say, he isn’t fun to be around in the duplex.
I didn’t actually intend this, but ddd!Scourge and ddd!Darktail have a lot in common!
they’d probably be rivals who eventually team up in the struggle for Bristlefrost’s radio. it could be Scourge and Darktail vs. Mapleshade and Emberdawn (who turn on each other) vs. Tigerstar, Darkstripe, and Hawkfrost (who changes sides) vs. Bristlefrost’s friends defending and playing keepaway with the radio.
