Hello lovelies! I have made progress on my scarf, I promise. I just haven't worked on it as much because work is currently slammed and I might actually get a livable paycheck this week. (I am not trying to be disrespectful to people who have lost their jobs recently, if I had not changed to a federal job 5 months ago, I'd be on unemployment right now. Very thankful for any income I have and my heart goes out to all struggling right now). And i wasn't very interested in working on anything until my power came back on and i had heat again. Yesterday left us with a good amount snow and headaches. But if you are "safe at home, no guarantee about sane" and interested in a podcast... I recommend "welcome to Night Vale." I tried to conceptualize me and my plants’ (and all Midwesterners’) feelings on the snow we got yesterday....I think I accomplished that? Might be a bit dramatic, BUT SERIOUSLY! What the hell was that?! The good news is most plants can withstand a day of cold like that—the tulips and lilies out front are handling it like a boss: 🌨🌷 The bad news is when fruit trees put out blossoms and they go through a freeze and die off, those trees do not produce fruit. one in a million

Why am I doing this?

I ought to be doing something else.

By that, I don’t mean undergoing a new project or becoming a visionary.  Rather I should be doing the things that remain under my sphere of responsibility at the moment: finishing a sermon, brushing my teeth, cleaning my room.  Maybe, wear some socks for my freezing feet.  On a side note, why the hell is Chicago blanketed by snow in late April? What would Jesus do?  He’d probably freeze in his sash and birkenstocks.  

I think I’ve been a scatterbrain most of my life.  High anxiety and a million thoughts (probably unnecessary) race through my mind all day.  I’m not aware enough to fully observe what most of these thoughts are or why I have them - only that I feel the responsibility to be attentive to all 1 million of them.  The torture behind it isn’t that there are so many that I need to get to, but that I only get fragments of cohesion with lots trails that dead end.  

The ones that are easiest to get to are the ones that make no sense - like starting this blog or hanging up a framed painting of an ajumma washing her clothes by a river.  These require little work; not so much in the way of physical labor but in the work my mind requires to complete the task.  There isn’t much to invest in or give into. They’re most of the time, welcome distractions.  

So that’s it, really.  There’s no real definitive goal to this blog.  It started as a product of my ADHD and anxiety - birthed out of a desire to run from responsibility and a longing to welcome distraction.  Out of the potential benefits I foresee a possible improvement in grammar and vocabulary.  But maybe along the way I’ll accidentally attend to  something a bit longer than I’m used to and find that there is a part of me that’s capable of remaining, even when I’m distracted.
