Snow fell outside, glamorous and volatile —quite like himself— while the Avengers prepared the compound for the celebrations. Loki just kept on looking out the window without moving a finger, mesmerized with the light weight of the snowflakes, so unlike rain…
“So, is Rock of Ages not going to help at all?”, said Tony, setting up holographic illusions of colorful candles everywhere. Loki didn’t glue his eyes off the storm. Tony sighed and walked up to him, sitting by his side. Loki’s eyes glimmered with fascination. “You’ve never seen snow before?”.
“Once or twice, back in my true realm”, he admitted with bitterness, “but I didn’t have the time nor the energy to stop and admire it. And Asgard is too sunny, all the time”.
Tony nodded.
“Well”, he said, directing the attention of the entire room to him. “I say we play in the snow. The decorations can wait. What do you think?”.
He didn’t need to think twice. As soon as they left the building, he saw a big patch of snow and threw himself on it like a child. He laughed —surprising every single member of the Avengers; he didn’t even smile those days— and laid there with no greed for anything else in his life.
Well, except maybe one thing, he thought as he turned around to see you, doing the exact same thing he did. He composed himself, or tried to, and began talking to you as he could —it had been a while since he last spoke to someone that didn’t want him in a prison cell, as far as he knew of you.
There are few moments in his life he can remember in great detail after thousands of years. That first evening with you was one of them.
Well aware of the effect you had on him, he decided he wanted —actually, he had to keep you around. As soon as you turned around and said something among the lines of going back to work, he grabbed your wrist quickly and blurted out some words —hopefully in the right order— like;
“Let’s have dinner”.
You blinked in surprise and smiled and you had some snow on your hair and eyelashes and a redness all over your face and he, oh Gods, he definitely fell. He fell so hard.

“It’s kind of funny,” you said softly as you sensed someone joining you in the darkened room.
“What is?” asked Natasha, forgetting that you had heightened perception, so not even she could usually sneak up on you. You could smell the two mugs of spiked cocoa she was carrying as she came in to sit beside you, the vague scent of butterscotch shots mingling in with the rest.
“The snow’s still kind of pretty, even if it’s completely disabling the city,” you answered bitterly, pressing your forehead to the cold pane in front of you. “If we went outside right now, it would probably be gray and graveled slush all over.”
Nat sighed, putting the mugs on the table between you. “But from up here it looks like a postcard.”
“Right.”
It was the worst blizzard New York had seen since 1993. Whiteouts blinded anyone daring to walk outside. Frigid gusts whipped snow drifts against the sides of buildings, burying doorways and windows, trapping people inside. Any car making an attempt on the road turned into a boat that went sailing freely down the icy thoroughfare, careening out of control. Temperatures settled well below the threshold required to close schools. Wind-whipped ice pellets stung the skin while the air froze eyelids shut.
The redhead paused for a moment, setting the mugs down next to you but making no move to sit. “I thought if you wouldn’t go to the party, I’d bring the party--”
“--thanks,” you mumbled, unsure if you wanted any at the moment.
The Black Widow bit her lip, still somewhat ill at ease in gentler social situations. “So, you were really hoping he’d be home by now, weren’t you?” She asked it with a little too much caution, as if the wrong inflection would be enough to spark a meltdown.
“I know you all know,” you mumbled bitterly. “Don’t worry about skirting around it anymore.”
The right corner of Nat’s lip curled. “Thanks. That was getting annoying.”
After the parole of your unwitting beloved, one Loki Laufeyson of Asgard and Jotunheim, was granted and ordered to be served on Midgard, you were practically giddy. Finally after years of talking to him as a prisoner under your observation when you and Steve made trips to Asgard, your hard work convincing both Odin the King and the United Nations paid off, and you’d won freedom for your flame (at least partially).
However, you’d hoped he’d be delivered back to Earth by the holiday, as you’d planned it in your head to make your first date a sweet, light-hearted Christmas Eve outing. It would be such a change from the harsh dungeons of the palace he’d once more willingly called home.
That was when the weather turned, and it made any aircraft landing impossible. The storm began on the 22nd, and it was still raging two full days later. It was ripping the city apart at the seams, making even walking to the curb an impossible task.
Shrugging, you turned away from her and looked out the window again, ignoring Nat when she gently nudged one of the mugs toward you. “Am I wrong for being into him?”
“Yes,” Natasha said without skipping a beat. “Especially considering you’re planning on asking an intergalactic war criminal to get in bed with you.”
“So I like ‘em bad,” you mumbled. “And besides…he’s on parole now. Or probation.Whatever.”
Nat twisted her lip. “You know how I feel about him. And that my feelings would never change, even if he was vindicated.”
“Noted.”
“But,” she went on after a pause, “It still really sucks seeing one of us so depressed on Christmas eve, no matter what the reason. Please come downstairs. We’re doing the Secret Santa gifts, and Thor had your name.”
You scoffed and rolled your eyes. “How come Thor made it home?”
Chuckling, Natasha took a sip of her spiked cocoa. “Is that any way to talk about your possible future brother-in-law?”
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”
You woefully looked out into the snowy twilight, pressing your forehead against the cold glass. Natasha groaned. “Okay, I tried,” she said, getting up, not bothering to grab her own cup. “I’ll tell Thor to put some holes in the box until you feel like coming down.”
Winking, she went slowly for the door, deliberately waiting for you to make sense of her clue. You got up, still skeptical. “He didn’t bring back another direwolf thinking it was a husky, did he?”
She didn’t turn around, only pausing in the doorway to say, “I guess that remains to be seen.”
Thor was always well-intentioned, but his meatheadedness often got you all into trouble, and tonight it would be specifically on your account if things went awry. “Did he really get me something…dangerous?”
“Oh, it’s dangerous,” Nat promised.
Shit, you thought, going to follow Nat downstairs after all. Even if you didn’t want to be there, if Thor had inadvertently caused danger with your ‘present,’ you had to at least take some responsibility for it. It still didn’t stop you from cursing Thor in every way possible while you reluctantly trailed Nat down to the lounge floor.
The air was much hotter on the floor below, and the sudden burst of bright fluorescent lighting forced you to squint for the seconds it took your pupils to adjust. You’d been sitting and sulking in the dark for a while.
“There she is!” chortled Thor Claus, wearing an obnoxiously oversized Santa hat that nearly slid down his face as he rushed over to greet you. “Happy Tidings!”
“Eyyy look who’s here!” chimed in Tony from the bar in the corner, where he was disseminating drinks. “Eggnog? With or without the special ingredient?”
“With, please,” you said quietly. “But I’m not staying long. I’m only here because someone warned me about my gift going rogue, Thor.”
Thor smiled at Nat, who winked from behind you so that you couldn’t see the message. “Friend, it has done no such thing--”
Tony interjected. “--but it is getting a bit crabby!”
Steve rolled his eyes from the sofa while Bucky giggled on his lap. “Yeah, please just open it!” he begged.
You twisted your lip skeptically as Thor pointed. “It’s under the bejeweled arbor,” he said.
Scott Lang nearly spat out the beer he was drinking. “It’s just a Christmas tree, Thor, pal!” he called.
The room was as merry and bright as one would expect for the occasion. Tony hadn’t skimped on a caterer, and they’d delivered a twenty-foot spread of every fathomable Yule-centered food. Vision was blinking red and green (Wanda couldn’t keep her eyes off of him). Nat went off to join Bruce Banner closer to the large tree in the center of the room, which was also where you began to head.
As you approached the tree, everyone else in the room seemed to cease their own activities in order to follow you, whether physically or with their attention. You noticed the low hum of diverse conversations blending together had ceased.
“What--?” you began asking before something caught your eye at the base of the fifteen-foot tree.
Sitting on his legs, tied and wrapped from neck-to-toe in metallic green Christmas wrapping, was none other than Loki, a large red bow plopped sloppily on top of his long black hair. Someone had hung a large holly wreathe around his neck, and above his head, dangling on a bit of fishing line, was a sprig of mistletoe. He was in profile to you, but the moment he could gather from the room that you’d spotted him, he looked for you.
He smiled in spite of his situation when he met your eye. However, his cheeks began to turn pink.
“Um…Merry Christmas?” he asked quietly, causing half the room to erupt in roaring laughter.
“But…I thought…how?” you said, unable to line up a complete thought as your brain was simultaneously attempting to process the surprise that Loki had come home after all..and that he was restrained and sitting in a submissive’s humble pose at your feet.
Thor was so proud of his little trick. He followed you back to the tree, his fists proudly sitting against his hips as he posed like Heracles. “He came back with me.”
“We were going to call you,” said Nat, still laughing (and, admittedly, gaining some satisfaction at Loki’s humiliation). “But then he said something that made Thor and I come up with this idea.”
“Oh?” you asked with curiosity, kneeling in front of the God of Chaos, bound helplessly in crepe paper, cupping his face in your hands. “What did you say?”
Loki raised a brow. “I said nothing,” he bluffed.
“The first words he said were to ask of your health and whereabouts,” Thor said gleefully. “And that’s when the Woman of Stealth and I invented this humorous plot to bring you some Yuletide cheer!”
You couldn’t help but eye Loki up and down, literally delivered to you wrapped in shiny paper. “It’s certainly cheering me up!” you said, your mood elevating with each laugh.
Loki’s cheeks continued to go red and warm.
“He still needs to loosen up a little,” suggested Scott.
“Let’s force-feed him some ‘nog! Anyone got a bib and a funnel?” asked Tony, raising his voice.
You rolled your eyes. “Jesus, guys, isn’t this enough?”
Loki smirked and sighed as you leaned over to kiss his forehead gently. “I’m quite thankful you got here before they made good on their threat to…what was it…’don me now in gay apparel’?”
Scott shrugged as Thor and Nat turned to him expectantly, the copious amounts of drink starting to slosh around in his brain. “I thought he’d look less scary in a reindeer outfit!”
“Well,” you said, “let’s at least free you from these Christmas trappings--”
“--no!” Loki quickly refused, nearly causing you to flinch. “They…the humiliations are manifold…” he began to explain.
Thor chimed in unceremoniously. “He’s completely nude underneath his paper bonds!”
You gasped as Loki nodded in the affirmative. “While I assure you I would have no qualms with showing the chiseled, superior physique of Prince Loki to this room of peasants, I have been told doing so will result in having garlands and snowglobes thrown at me.”
“And that’s a promise. I think we’ve all had enough exposure to Loki’s scepter around here,” said Stark. Several people in the room nodded in agreement.
Loki groaned, annoyed and further embarrassed. “Thus, I’m stuck until the party ends, after which you WILL be unwrapping your…err…gift, in privacy.” He struggled gently against the layers of paper tightly wound about him.
You reached up to straighten the bow on his head. “That’s better. And I’ll be more than happy to open my christmas present in the privacy of my bedroom later.”
The rest of the evening was spent in good cheer all around, thanks in part to you gently feeding Loki sips of Stark’s alcoholic eggnog until he was ready to willingly partake in the merriment. It didn’t hurt that you added the incentive of a promised kiss under the mistletoe after the others left.
Finally, the last of the revelers made their way to their bedrooms, you fulfilled your promise to Loki, not able to help yourself as you slipped a finger under the tapped wrappings at his throat, using your long nail to gracefully slice a long cut right down the middle. You peeled the green paper away just enough to expose his bare chest, stopping your breath at the sight. Loki added a sly, sexy grin to the image, completing the statue of the hottest Christmas gift you’d ever received.
“Oooh,” you moaned with excitement, “Merry Christmas to me, indeed!”

Jotunheim Loki, fondly known as Disney Prince Loki because come on ✨
I love this costume SO much and I really want to break it out for a con again sometime, though I suspect it may need some tlc. I think the last time I wore it was Katsu 2020??
Fun fact: real snow! We did not plan for that when we went to the ice castles, so that was uh rather eventful and extremely cold 🤣

honestly if asgard 'discovered' jotunheim back in the day and took it over I feel like there would be some doomed arctic expedition level screw ups before they learned how to be competent in the environment. like loosing entire expeditions to arrogance, improper preparations, refusing to ask the locals anything and then accusing them of eating their teams when they loose them. just. utter disaster made by colonial arrogance. racism. general calamity. asgard has mountains but even if they get snow in the winters it seems a big difference between that and a planet made entirely of rock and ice. it is going to take some trial and error

Beautiful Creatures, One Shot
Thanks for the prompt! Hope you like it. I would not be surprised if I end up doing more from this!  crimson25 asked: Y/N is an Asgardian slave. She's had a rough life surviving the king. One day without warning the all father banishes her for some bullshit reason (maybe she's been set up). She's banished to Jotunheim with no hope for survival. She tries to find shelter but it's no use, she collapses in the snow and ice and excepts her fate. Just before shes gone for good, Loki the king of Jotunheim finds her. After seeing how beaten, bruised, and malnourished she is, he takes pitty on her and decides that her suffering is over and takes her to his kingdom. He heals her cleans her up and gives her a decent meal. He wonders how a girl as beautiful as her was treated so badly. He then offers her a choice. Her freedom or a life with him. What will she choose.
-
To say she was cold wouldn’t even scratch the surface of how bitterly, aching cold she was. She was certain frostbite had sunk in, she couldn’t feel her toes anymore through her boots. Her teeth wouldn’t stop chattering and the thin excuse for a cloak around her would have just as well not been there as the biting wind just whipped through.
All she could see through the blizzard was white, she wasn’t even sure how far she could see. It all seemed to blend together. She tried to keep going through the snow, but it was up past her knees and so difficult to walk through.
She tried to keep going, but suddenly the ground just vanished beneath her and she tumbled down a small rocky hill. Falling to a heap at the bottom in the snow, she looked at her hands and they were frozen stiff. She tucked herself into a ball as much she could. Closing her eyes, she decided to just welcome death. Surely it would be better than this, and what she had already endured for most of her life.
It was time. She was accepting it. She just wanted the pain to be gone.
-
Loki was heading back to his castle on his Jordit, a giant furry creature that was capable of carrying Jotuns. It was similar and as agile as a cat and had a horn coming out of its head, but it was white as snow, to blend in easy with the land. Its tail was long but usually curled up on itself, unless in fight mode then it would flick around dangerously, a weapon in itself. They were fiercely loyal and loving with their master, but you didn’t want to get on the wrong side of one. Especially with its large claws and huge ice fangs. They were very rare, only Loki had one out of all the Jotuns in Jotunheim.
Loki halted his Jordit suddenly and squinted a bit as he looked through the blizzard. There was a motionless pile not far from where he was, but it looked odd as he saw bits of red cloth through said pile.
He dismounted his Jordit and gave her a pat on her thick furry neck, then made his way over to investigate. As he grew closer, his eyes widened as he was shocked to find an Asgardian girl. Though she was almost as blue as him from the cold. Crouching down, he was even more shocked to see she was still breathing, just.
How she wasn’t already dead, he had no idea.
Unable to leave her in such a state, he took off his large furry green robe and scooped her tiny body up into his arms, wrapping the robe around her. As he carried her back to his Jordit, her eyes fluttered open, they widened upon seeing the large giant carrying her. And she looked a little scared when she saw the just as giant animal that he was taking her to.
‘It’s ok, you’re safe with me.’ Loki said softly.
She passed out again as Loki mounted his Jordit, carefully with her cradled against him.
‘Come on, let’s get her back to the castle as quickly as possible.’ He said as he gave his Jordit a pat on the neck.
The Jordit leapt into action and easily bolted through the deep snow like it was nothing. Loki kept the Asgardian girl covered from the snow and he kept her as close to his body as possible, making sure to give off heat instead of his usual coldness.
They were back at the castle within minutes. They didn’t stop at the gates to wait for them to open, the Jordit simply jumped clear over the top of them and raced inside. Guards went flying as they raced by, just seeing a blur of white.
The Jordit skidded to a halt outside of Loki’s chambers. His maid was just finished cleaning his chambers when he slid down with the Asgardian in his arms.
‘Oh my! Let me get the fire going!’ The maid ran back into his chambers.
‘Thank you, my friend.’ Loki said and gave his Jordit a gentle stroke on the nose. She made a low purring noise before going into the next room that belonged to her.
Loki took the girl into his chambers and was glad to see the maid had gotten the fire going nice and quickly. He placed the girl onto the rug on front of the fire and then gathered as much pillows and blankets as he could find.
‘I’ll go fetch some warm soup.’ The maid rushed out of the room.
Loki carefully put a pillow under her head and then draped many blankets over her. He then went to his bathroom and got some warm water in a bowl and a cloth, as he returned the girl was mumbling incoherently.
He crouched down next to her and started wiping her face with the warm water. It wasn’t too hot, as he knew too hot would do her more harm than good.
‘What hurts most, pet?’ He asked softly.
She was still wide eyed as she looked at him. But her mind was quickly starting to focus and work more, she realised that he had not harmed her. That he seemed to be wanting to help.
‘My… my… hands…’ She said shakily.
Loki moved the blanket enough so he could see her hands. She couldn’t move her fingers. He carefully dipped her hands into the water, and in time, she was slowly able to move all of her fingers again as the warmth returned to her body.
When Loki’s maid returned with soup, the girl was sitting up with blankets wrapped around her.
‘Thank you.’ Loki smiled at his maid.
‘Anything else I can do for you, My King, just let me know.’ She bowed her head to him.
Loki nodded and smiled. ‘Should be fine now. Go and enjoy your evening with your family. Thank you.’
Loki turned to the Asgardian girl and held out the bowl of soup. Though it was only when he held it out to her that he realised the bowl was far too big, made for Jotuns.
‘Ah… Let’s try something else.’ He said sheepishly and from the palm of his hand his seidr seeped up in a green haze and the bowl turned to a good size for her.
But when he handed it to her, she looked stunned. Though she did take the bowl, she was staring at him with wide eyes.
‘I know this must be scary, seeing Jotuns. But I promise, we mean you no harm. I don’t doubt that you will have heard terrifying stories of how we are ravaging beasts that kill anything and everyone in sight. But that is not the case. Odin has a deep hatred of my kind and people.’ Loki explained, keeping his voice soft.
‘You… You’re Laufeyson? The King?’ She squeaked.
Loki nodded. ‘I am… Try and eat some soup, it will help warm you up from the inside. You’re still shivering… I’ll run the bath.’
He disappeared momentarily, letting her take a moment to herself to take in everything. But then she started eating the soup, and the warmth from the inside did help immensely. Though her clothes were still damp against her, which were making her continue to shiver.
When Loki returned, he noticed her still shaking.
‘I’ve ran a bath. I have an old robe of mine from when I was a child that might fit you, it might still be a bit large but it will do until your clothing dries by the fire.’ Loki said as he approached her. ‘Can you walk or do you wish for me to carry you through?’
She said nothing and tried to stand herself, but when she got to her feet her legs were like jelly and she almost fell over. But Loki reached out and caught her with his giant hand. He helped her through to the bathroom.
‘I know you don’t know or trust me, but I will need to help you into the bath. I don’t want you to drown in the large tub. You’re also still quite ill so I can’t leave you alone.’
She didn’t particularly care at this point, after being so close to death. She just wanted to get warm again. So she began taking off her clothes.
Loki had to hold in a few gasps when he saw her body. She was covered in bruises and was as thin as a stick, her ribs were showing and there was absolutely no meat on her at all. That’s when he noticed how rather sunken her face was, though she was incredibly beautiful. His heart broke thinking how someone could harm such a beautiful creature.
When she sank into the warm water, she felt better already. Loki tried not to stare at her, even though she was covered by bubbles.
‘How did you end up here? I don’t think we’ve ever had an Asgardian here.’ Loki asked.
‘I… I’m actually half Asgardian half Midgardian. I was born on Asgard, but when my father died, me and my mother were taken into the house of Odin and treated… well, she was a Midgardian. We were treated as we should have been. I am thankful though, Odin kept a roof over my head. Even when mother died too. As long as I did my chores and kept my head down. Though it’s my fault, I made him angry as I failed to clean his horses stable to standard… He banished me here. But I deserved it. It’s my fault. I just have never done stables before, just chambers.’ She shook as she spoke, trying not to speak bad of Odin in fear of repercussion.
Loki narrowed his eyes. ‘Do not stand up for him, I know how horrid he is. How he treats his people. He caused those bruises, didn’t he?’
She nodded.
‘Did he feed you?’
She paused before shaking her head. ‘Not really. A piece of bread every other day when I deserved it.’ She whispered.
Loki bit his tongue, trying not to show his rage.
He stayed silent for the duration of her bath. Once he was happy with her temperature, she was no longer shaking, he took her out of the bath and tried to avert his eyes as he helped to dry her. Then she put on the robe that was indeed a bit big, dragging on the floor. But she made it work.
Loki hung her own tattered clothes up to dry by the fireplace. He then let her rest in his bed.
‘Please, get some sleep.’
‘Thank you…’ She was scared, still untrusting. But she felt deep down that she could relax. That she was ok for now.
Loki left her to rest, he went to speak to his guard outside.
‘I’ve heard of Odin banishing his people or slaves. Even guards and soldiers. I think your father came across a few, actually. That were banished here. Most of the time, they were dead before they were found in the snow.’ His guard said.
‘What did my father do with them?’ Loki raised an eyebrow.
‘He took them back here, let them warm up and then he took them to one of the paths off Jotunheim, to Midgard or Vanaheim.’
‘Right.’ Loki nodded, deep in thought.
‘Is there anything else she needs, My King? Or yourself?’ The guard asked.
‘No, I think that’s all. Thank you.’ Loki nodded.
He quietly went back into his chambers and noticed the girl was asleep. He went and sat by the fireplace to read a book, though he barely turned the pages because his mind was completely elsewhere.
-
When the girl woke up after a few hours, she felt warmed to the bones and much better. There was a glass of water and fruit on the bedside table. She sat up and stared at it, her mouth began watering at the delicious looking fruits.
‘Go ahead, it’s for you.’ Loki said, startling her slightly. She hadn’t noticed him sitting on a chair not far from her.
She looked at him, then back at the fruit, then at him again. He motioned his head to it. So she didn’t wait any longer and grabbed a few grapes, stuffing them into her mouth before taking some strawberries and then tucking into a peach. It was so juicy and delicious.
Loki got up and slowly walked over to her. He sat down on the edge of the bed by her, the bed dipped quite a bit and she tensed up a little. He really was gigantic in comparison to her. So was all the furniture, her legs dangled down so far from the ground.
‘Are you feeling better?’
‘Yes… Thank you…. Why… Why did you save me? You’re a King… But you’re… Kind.’ She spoke so quietly, like a mouse.
‘I saved you, firstly because I am King. It is my duty to protect people, not only my own people but others in need too. Secondly, I am no monster like you may think. I’ve also been on the receiving end of Odin’s wrath before… And thirdly, it costs nothing to be kind. Why be nasty, it takes up so much energy.’ Loki shrugged.
She frowned a little. He really wasn’t acting like a King. Well, certainly not like Odin was as King, anyway.
‘You’re kind to your maid, too.’ She whispered.
‘Of course. She does a lot for me, as do all the other maids, my guards and soldiers. They are my people, too. I want what is best for them. I want them to be happy under my rule.’
She didn’t say anything else, just kind of looked at Loki in wonder for a bit. Then ate some more fruit and drank the water.
‘I know that Jotunheim might not be the most attractive of realms. But if you’re dressed appropriately and prepared, it can be a beautiful place. I want to offer you the opportunity to stay here, with me… If you so wish to. Or I can give you your freedom, I can take you to one of the hidden paths to another realm. Vanaheim or perhaps Midgard… Wherever you wish to go.’
She was really surprised at that. Not expecting anything else from Loki, she had thought he would just send her out of his castle now she was better.
‘I… I… don’t know… Maybe, Midgard… ’
‘Take some time to think it through.’ Loki said, his heart sinking slightly at her making the decision of wanting to leave so quickly. But then he didn’t expect anything less really, Odin had no doubt drilled into her mind that all Jotuns were monsters.
‘I’ll leave you for a while. I have to tend to my Jordit.’ He said with a nod, then strolled across his chambers and out.
She finished the fruit and then climbed down from the bed. She went over to her clothes and found they were dry. Though the thought of putting on those rags made her stomach sink. But she had nothing else, so she took off Loki’s old robe and put on her old clothing. Even her boots were falling apart.
Her mind was racing with what Loki had said. Though she knew it would be best just to get away from here. She had almost died in the snow after all. She couldn’t stay here. Surrounded by… monsters? Even her parents had told her horror stories about Jotuns as a child.
But then… why were they acting the complete opposite? And the castle she was in, it was like an ordinary castle in Asgard or any other realm, it wasn’t even made of ice like she had been told stories of.
She went over to the doors and managed to push one open, it was really heavy with how large it was. As she stepped outside, there was a giant guard right there, staring down at her. She looked up at him, terrified.
But he smiled a bit, which put her at ease slightly.
‘If you’re looking for Loki, he’s just in the next room.’ He motioned to the right with his spear.
She nodded quickly and scurried away from the guard and went towards the room he’d said. The door was slightly open, so she was able to just slide inside. She stopped just inside the door, eyes wide at what she saw.
Loki was with the Jordit. Such a strange creature she had never seen before. But it was lying down and Loki was brushing its long fur.
‘There we go, that must feel better. I’m sorry I didn’t do this sooner after our ride out. I know how your fur gets so tangled from the wet.’ Loki apologised to her.
The Jordit turned her head and licked his hand, making Loki chuckle. He put the brush down once he was done and stroked behind her ear. But then she perked her head up and her ears twitched as she looked over at the door, where the girl was stood.
‘Ah. Are you ok?’ Loki asked as he walked over towards the girl. His Jordit followed behind him.
‘I… I think so.’ She nodded.
‘This is my Jordit, she might look a little scary but she won’t harm you if you are no threat.’ Loki reached back and patted her neck.
The Jordit growled a little at the girl, unsure of her.
‘She’s beautiful.’ The girl said in slight awe, fear was there of course but with respect. She could tell she was a powerful animal. But she was a magnificent creature, there was no denying that.
The Jordit made a chirping noise instead of a growl, making Loki chuckle.
‘Yes, you’re beautiful. Everyone knows it.’ He said to her, making the girl smile at how he was acting with the animal.
‘She can be a bit big headed.’ He whispered to the girl with a smirk. The Jordit growled in a playful manner and butted Loki with her head, just avoiding him with her horn.
The girl giggled a bit, and Loki thought it was the most wonderful sound he’d ever heard.
‘I guess you are wanting to head to Midgard?’ He asked with a cough to clear his throat.
‘I uhm… I was wondering maybe if I could stay here instead? Just for a little while… Till I get my strength up, perhaps? If that offer is still on.’ She asked quickly, her cheeks heating up a bit.
‘Of course. We’d love for you to stay.’ Loki grinned widely.

A Court of Mischief and Purpose Chapter Thirteen (Loki x fem! Reader Hiddlesverse Crossover Series)
Tumblr media
Series Summary: Based on Sarah J Mass's A Court of Thorns and Roses series with the Tom Hiddleston characters. You are a woman of 1885 in Aldwinter in Essex, England, dying of tuberculosis. Never to be married to the local Lusty Vicar. When Loki appears to you and offers to heal you...if you spend a week of every month with him.
Chapter Warnings: You and Loki journey to Jotunheim to find the orb. But when events turn for the worse...you decide to ask for help.
Chapter Warnings: Using an oldie but goodie fanfic trope (Court of Mist and Fury does it, so I decided to use it too), some insecurity and mutual pining, and mentions of past cheating with a character who isn't Loki. Fluff and Angst.
A/N: I am not 100 percent certain about the cannon world of Jotunheim, so I threw my hands in the air and cried "fuck it! Give them horses". The next chapters are coming in fast since work was slow and I used the time to write some first drafts. Hence the fast posting.

Dressed in your warmest coats and sheathed with daggers, you both went through the portal.
Jotunheim was still as bitter cold as ever. If only Loki could just create a portal within Jotunheim to land you right in the cabin! But no- that wasn’t in his abilities, as he kept reminding you whenever you began to complain. You had to travel through the blasted tundra. You trekked through the sharp wind and snow with Loki for a few hours. Thank goodness your fire floated in your hands and the movement gave you warmth. But you had yet to sense out where the cabin was. And now it was getting dark.
You used a certain creature to travel through- horses only known in Jotunheim. Like a regular horse. Only this one was a little bigger than normal. Bright white as the snow and that had crystals of ice on him. The Jotunheim Horses were immune to the cold- it was where they thrived. In fact, it grazed to eat the snow, swishing its blue tail and mane.
When you both got tired of walking, he used some of the money you had brought to rent a special horse of Jotunheim from a village. Like a regular horse that had crystals on them. Horses that were immune to the cold- it was where they thrived. Only barely larger than normal. You eyed the saddle nervously.
“I never even rode a normal horse before,” you said.
“Now, don’t be nervous my dear- here, I will show you how...” Loki guided.
He helped you up onto the saddle, you in front and him behind. You swung your legs to the side like you saw horsewomen in photographs back home do. He guided the reigns and as you both rode, gave you small instructions- keep your heels down. Stay calm. Flick the reigns to make them go faster, tug to make them stop or go slower. He even let you practice riding it for a couple of miles forward, the horse trotting at a calm pace.
“We’ve traveled for hours…but we cannot lose our place…” Loki said.
He checked the book again.
“It should be close…but it means it’s several hours of riding…”
He looked at you shivering.
“And we’ll need to stop…”
There was a city nearby. Some of the Frost Giant people gaped at you, but you ignored their starings. You checked the few inns in town. But it seemed many were full due to Starfall and those traveling to celebrate.
Finally, there was the third and last inn You both went inside, going up to the innkeeper at the wooden desk in the lobby. Her blue skin seemed to shine in the light and her red eyes were bright.
“We have good news, there is one room available for the night…” she announced.
“Oh, wonderful!” you cried.
She looked between you both.
“However, there is a problem…” she began.
There was only one bed. One comfortable, blanketed, bed in that room.
It was far too cold to lie on the floor for hours. You both would have to sleep in it.
Your heart raced a little- something so intimate! Something you would have never agreed to do a year ago…but now, what choice did you have?
Loki had nightclothes conjured for both of you. You fought back the memory of seeing him sleep semi-naked. You both had warm, thick nightgowns that were as white as the Jotunheim snow. You felt your eyes continue to flutter down to see the V of his own nightwear. The little bit of hair that poked out of his chest. But then forced them away.
Once it got dark, you both got into the bed. You and Loki turned around, him staring at the window and you at the wall.
The wind whistled sharply. Outside there were constant flurries of thick snowflakes. The cold air seeped through the room. Contrasting with the warmth of the blankets…and of your bedmate. Turning about, you had not fallen asleep yet. Your mind refusing to shut down despite the long day.
You kept thinking back, despite yourself, remembering the day you first spoke to him. The day he saved you at a price. But there was one little thing he said that still kept bugging you like an itch you weren’t allowed to scratch.
“Loki… are you awake?” you asked.
“Yes,” he answered. “Why aren’t you asleep by now?”
You heard him flip over and you followed suit. His dark curls out of the way of his face. Both of you on your sides, facing each other.
“Because I was thinking of the day you appeared to me when we made the bargain.”
“Oh yes…and what made you recall that?”
“Well, the fact we keep ending in each other’s rooms in one way or the other!”
His own eyebrows briefly shot up, and there was a smile on the verge of a little laugh on his face, yet he remained quiet.
“It happened when I first met you- not counting when you were a cat…but there’s one thing you said I still muse on…it still makes me a little mad!” you blurted.
“Which one? My dear, I’m sure I said several things that enraged you back then…” he prodded
“That you were surprised I could talk back just because I’m a woman from my time.”
The other thought that was floating in your head was the memory of the letter to Cora you found- that one phrase that seemed like being stabbed in the gut. The one phrase that solidifed her superiority over you-“You are truly not like other women!”
Loki said no reply but merely listened.
“We’re people, like anyone else. We have feelings, like anyone else. Did you assume Just because we embroider and wear corsets that it means we’re boring or weak? We don’t enjoy being pushed around! We don’t like being mocked or hurt. And perhaps we aren’t all warriors, but that does not mean we are unworthy of respect! You should have seen my mother. I think she was far more in charge of our family than Papa ever was. Even Stella-Stella-said so to me that she wants Grendel and his army to, and I quote, ‘burn in hell.’”
“Norns above…” Loki muttered in reply.
“I can’t blame her after what they did to her…” you commented.
Loki furrowed his brow. He kept listening as you continued.
“It’s usually those who don’t know us who make such judgments. Who won’t even try to get to know us it…it…it’s comments such as these that make me so mad that I…I…”
The rest of the words failed you, and you paused. How much were you ranting about what he said…and how much were you ranting at the phrase in the letter? Perhaps he could tell. You were quite sure your shield was down. Loki only looked at you- realizing he had permission to speak.
“You were right back then. When I met you, I knew Thomas…but I never got to know a woman from your time. I made judgements and even jokes about it…but I didn’t truly know you then. I’m sorry,” he apologized.
“Thank you. I forgive you, Loki,” you replied.
You turned around. Facing the wooden wall with a chair and table on the other side. The fireplace in the room was a mere, dying ember. The smoke was so thin, it was nearly invisible.
“I hate to disappoint you, Loki, but there is not much to me other than my magic. I’m just like every other woman…” you said.
You tightened the blanket around you, your knees hugging up to your chest. A lump in your throat. But you heard the trickster god shift forward. His voice right near your ear and his warm body against yours. Part of you fell stiff, yet also…comforted.
“There’s nothing wrong with that,” he consoled you.
You turned back over to look at him. You accepted his closeness as you faced each other. His nose mere centimeters from your own. His eyes were as blue as the skies of Asgard. You could smell your dinner on his breath.
“There are far worse things in life to be…but…”
His voice went back to that of teasing, a small smile on his face. He had to be at least a little mischievous while he was still awake.
“You could still improve your taste in wedding gowns…” he poked.
You cocked up an eyebrow.
“That’s rich coming from someone who wears ruffled blouses with his tuxedoes!” you shot back.
You both burst into laughter. You could still hear his rich baritone voice in his laughter. You could feel the rumbling in his body, his chest seemed to vibrate with the mirth.
“What can I say? I enjoy dressing with a little bit more flair...” he sad.
You shot him a smug grin.
“Well, if I can wear a ‘monstrosity of lace’ as you called it, you can wear your foppish tuxedoes!” you teased.
He laughed a little more. Then his voice became gentle.
“Though you did look lovely at the ball the other night,” he said.
“As did you,” you replied.
So close…he was so close. You could have just wrapped him in your arms. Perhaps you should have. His closeness made his warmth radiate toward you. Your own thoughts and memories were spoken, and your concerns were heard like the breaking of a long-held dam. And now that it was released, you began to feel sleepy.
You curled up next to each other, merely brushing each other’s skin. Warm and safe despite the howling wind. You whispered goodnight and turned around to your other side. At once, you drifted to sleep.
When you woke up briefly, it was still dark. Perhaps it was early in the morning. You were facing the wall on your side, but something felt different. Something solid and heavy was draped over your waist. Too heavy to be the blankets.
You looked down and realized with a small jolt of your nerves that it was Loki’s muscular arm.
He wrapped an arm around you while asleep.
Dammit, dammit, dammit, you kept repeating silently.
Should you move him? Wake him up? Oh dear lord, you felt his chest and stomach against your backside. If he was asleep it was likely he wouldn’t be…well, aroused. You would be in the uncomfortable position of feeling something against you that you didn’t want to right now. No- it was a sleepy, chaste embrace from behind.
You heard his small snore. Like that of a cat. It was adorable, you had to admit. So no…you didn’t have the heart to move. You felt in his arms that you were safe…no, more than just safe…wanted. Wanted so badly that his subconscious needed you close.
No, YN that’s an illusion, you mused.
And yet…
This is what my life could be…yet he’s a trickster god and full of mischief and flattery, if I became his beloved, he’ll betray me for another…I’m so…so horrible that even a vicar would break what he preaches for another woman’s bed just to get away from me. If that’s what he did, then, what would a god of mischief do!?…and yet-
It was warm and comfortable. If it was an illusion, One that felt real- one that was only real. If only for a few minutes. The embrace was known to husbands and wives and lovers when they slept with limbs entangled. An embrace you were destined to never know… except for now.
Pretending like it was that domestic, loving comfort…you found your own eyes drooping. Back asleep you fell and deeply.
When you woke up that morning, you saw the window on Loki’s side. You felt no arms and no weight anymore on it. It was empty, save for you. The sun seemed especially bright with the snow reflecting off it. It shot into the window, making you squint.
Shifting over in the bed, you realized Loki was already wide awake. Sitting on a chair near the bed, concentrating on the little vanity with a shiny red apple he placed there. With a flick of his hand, the apple vanished in green smoke. Then it would reappear in the next corner. He gave you a smile in greeting.
“Good morning,” he greeted.
“What are you doing?” you asked.
“Practicing, my dear. It’s one thing to make a portal. It’s another thing to make something just vanish and take it somewhere else,” he answered.
“You’re working on it?” you cried.
“Practicing all morning. The furthest is four things that are not me. They can be sent several miles away…”
You felt the soft blanket, pulling it up to your chest.
He then used magic to have the apple reappear. He then placed it in his hand, shined it on his clothes, and took a bite with a loud crunch.
“It’s actually pretty easy. If I do it enough, I can do it without thinking.”
“Hmmm, It’s impressive…but please save an apple for me.”
He conjured one and threw it over to you. You caught it with both hands and thanked him.
After gathering more food, both of you mounted the horse and continued your long ride to the cabin. Stopping when needed, especially to check the map.
By now it was the late afternoon. But since Jotunheim was a land of eternal winter, the sky was dark. The snow kept falling and the cold wind kept howling at your side. But Loki’s company made it seem not as bad.
You finished the last of your bread and wiped the crumbs off of your mouth when you dismounted. Loki smiled as he showed you the map.
“Here- it’s not far…we’re almost there,” he promised.
You got out a carrot. The horse perked its ears. You offered it and the creature bit into it. It seemed that carrots were the universal favorite food of any kind of horse. You smiled and patted his long nose.
“What do you think of riding, my dear?” he asked.
“It’s a little nerve-wracking being on a living animal…but it can be fun. I’d like to learn more about it- I’m rather new and here we are.”
“When we return, I should let you practice with the horses we have. Perhaps I could show you how to ride with your legs over or even bareback! I’ve had years of training, you can trust me as an adequate teacher,” Loki proposed.
“Oh, Loki tell me- What kind of lessons does a prince have? What kind of classes or education? It must be interesting!” you commented.
He smiled at you. Going up to lift a hand to gently stroke the horse, brushing against the smooth ice crystals on its body.
“Well then, I remember there were etiquette lessons. Which is as fun for a little boy as you can imagine, but I managed to do well. Then we learned about how to use a sword and then we had to learn all of the history of-”
FWOOSH!
An arrow landed near your feet. You jolted with a small cry of surprise. The horse let out a cry with a raise of his front legs. Loki grabbed the reigns to try to calm him.
“Where did that come from?!” you cried.
You turned around and saw the answer.
Behind you were four men on Jotunheim horses of their own. The sadistic smiles on their faces and the dark armor on their clothes made your stomach heavy. They continued to ride, as one reached behind to get another arrow for his bow.
The breath stopped in your chest.
“Grendel’s men,” Loki breathed.
At once he threw you onto the horse and then got up himself. It was everything in you not to panic on the spot.
The horse galloped and held onto it for dear life. Looking back at the laughing, already triumphant soldiers with terrified eyes. Then you gritted your teeth in defiance of them. You let out a shaking hand, and the next arrows that were fired, you burned to ash to vanish in the wind.
But they were still gaining speed. The hooves of their own horses are like that of the drums before an execution. Loki kept urging the horse forward, too focused to create a duplicate or an illusion.
As all of you raced, you gained some distance away from them. Then they then fired another arrow. Faster than your flames could catch it.
Loki let out a yell of pain. You screamed out of instinct- an arrow landed in Loki’s right shoulder. It was black, full of grey smoke out of it like it was burning.
“YN, get it out! Quick!” he urged at you.
You let out a gasp and a small cry on instinct. But he kept riding. You turned around, and swiftly jerked it out, Loki letting out another groan of pain.
He then looked at the arrow in your hand, its swirling magic around it. His jaw dropped.
“No!” he exclaimed.
“What is it?” you asked.
“t’s a Kunnigr arrow! They are known for eventually draining one of magic!” he explained.
“What?! No!”
Loki shot out only a little green light from his hands.
“It’s still there, but it’s running out…”
He then suddenly stopped the horse. He at once pulled you down to your feet.
“Loki- what are you doing?!” you cried.
He looked at you. Sadness and resolve on his face. Your heart beat hard in your chest. He then grabbed your shoulders and looked you in the eye.
“Quick-listen to me- listen to me, YN darling! While I still have a little magic- I’m going to send you far from them. Go. Go find the Cabin. Find the Orb. Here-”
He gave you a pocket watch from his pocket, placing it in your hand.
“When you do, Get a signal to Asgard. Someone will see it- and they will get you.”
“Loki- no! Just transport yourself too! I’m not leaving this realm without you!”
An arrow was shot, and you both narrowly dodged it. But a few inches and- you realized with dread- it would have hit you.
“I am armed, I can fight them- but we’re outnumbered. Their arrows could make you lose your magic. And they won’t stop until they have at least one of us. I only have enough magic to save the horse and the brave woman I made a bargain with. …”
Deep in your gut, you knew he was right. And you hated it. His smile was so beautiful, so sad. You felt as if your heart was both being ripped into pieces and bursting at once.
“This is for you…I’m proud of you, my little mortal.”
“Loki-” you voiced.
He lifted a hand and flicked the wrist.
With the last bit of magic he had left, green smoke appeared around you. The horse whinnied as the smoke surrounded it too And you vanished from the scene.
The Green smoke surrounded your vision. Then at once it drifted away and you were far off into a snowy woods in Jotunheim. It was lined with fur trees full of beautiful snow around them like necklaces. Only some were normal trees where they settled on their branches in blankets. You heard the horse trotting around, brushing its lips and shaking its mane.
You felt light headed You were safe, alive. A far distance off.
Then a few uncontrollable tears began to stream down your face, feeling like they could turn to ice against your skin. You felt like there was a hole in your chest. But your senses were alerting you…the cabin was close. Wiping your nose with your sleeve, you took the reigns of the horse and you both walked forward. It wasn’t too long- only ten minutes of walking, despite the frigid wind paining your face…
And there it was. Sure enough, there was the cabin.
The door was unlocked. Already there was a blazing hearth in fireplace, a warm bed full of thick quilts, and a table full of food that was still fresh. Chopped wood for the hearth sat in a pile next to an iron pot to use for cooking. When you walked over to the hearth, you could tell, right in the fireplace was the orb glowing bright orange. The source of this light and comfort, though you were certain no one lived here.
You got out the pocket watch from your side… you knew you should alert them. You knew you had it. It was what he told you to do…but could not make it to twelve to give the signal.
Loki…Loki…it then hit you, the weight on you. What he did…for the mission. And for you.
He was armed. He could fight them. The training he had all of his life couldn’t have been for nothing. But he was outnumbered. But still…without magic and outnumbered! Perhaps killed already!
You couldn’t stand it. You couldn’t abandon him…and that was if he was still alive.
Despite your shaking, and your crying, your senses reached back. There was a mountain nearby. A familiar mountain…
And someone who would know if Loki still breathed.
You gathered a bundle of firewood and put them in your bag. Then you mounted the horse, both legs swinging off the saddle. Despite your nerves, your determination shot you forward. You were going to learn of Loki’s fate.
If he was dead, then you would go back to Asgard. It would be too risky to get his body. Tell the AllFather and AllMother of his last deed. So at least after his life, he would finally be seen as an equal, as a hero. And if he lived…you would do whatever you could to find him. Get him back.
You led the horse towards where you sensed the mountain and found the entrance. The place where the Jotun Prophet lived.
You rushed inside the cave. You down some of the wood and lit it with your fire. It crackled against the cave in echoes, its light illuminating the dark cave.
“Prophet! Prophet! Here’s my offering! Hurry! Please! It’s an emergency! I must speak with you- now!” you begged. Your voice echoed off into the infinity of black inside.
Sure enough, there were blue lights that glowed on the wall. And out walked the Jotun Prophet. Still with his proud, knowing smile.
“Oh, Mortal Lady, it’s you again…have you gained the wisdom to become engaged to an ugly priest this time? As you must have figured out by now, They don’t get half the attention from other women as the handsome ones do!”
You took a few steps forward. His red eyes remained calm and his smile remained gentle.
“This isn’t about any of that! It’s about Loki! He’s in danger! He could be hurt- or worse! Grendel’s soldiers ambushed us and he used the last of his magic to send me away! Please, Prophet, tell me one thing at least- is Loki still alive? Or are they going to kill him? Is this how he dies?”
The Jotun Prophet scratched his chin.
“Hmm, a god in distress...” he mused. He accepted the firewood. With some magic, it floated up in the air.
“They might have killed him by now- please! I’m begging you! Is Loki alive?”
The Jotun Prophet held up a hand as if to get you to calm down.
“They have abducted him. They’re tormenting him…but he is alive. There is nothing they love more than toying with their victims before they kill. But Loki is too valuable a prisoner for them to end his life just yet. They could use him to bribe the royal family of Asgard, hold him for the price of their domination of the kingdom or an alliance…so at least no killing yet. Even the most foolish of Grendel’s men know that.”
You breathed a sigh of relief, the dizziness washing down you. Your vision blurred from the high and then returned back. The Prophet wasn’t retreating- so you asked another question.
“Tell me where he is! Where have they taken him?” you pleaded.
“They are…southeast from here, a few leagues.”
The Prophet lifted a blue finger and pointed in that direction.
Once you journey down there, you will sense where they are clear as day. They are camped at the ends of another great mountain. You will see smoke- a fire they made there. There you may find Loki. There you may save him. What a lucky coincidence you found that cabin…just take him there after. Let him rest his injuries..”
New tears came down your face, tears of deep gratitude.
“Thank you…”
You began to turn to hurry off. But after a few steps, you heard The Prophet call out.
“Oh! Mortal Lady! One more thing!”
You turned right around, nearly skidding on your feet. He walked up to be closer to you, the firewood floating by his side.
“Brunhilde flowers,” the prophet said.
“Brunhilde flowers?” you repeated, tasting the words in your mouth.
“Named for the strength of the renowned Valkyrie. They grow in Jotunheim. You can find them growing outside the cabin. It will restore strength and even magic to anyone. The petals and bulb are very bitter to the taste but crushed up and steeped in boiled water, it makes a decent tea. To make it work faster, It should take two days and one cup of tea or one flower per day. Along with long hours of rest. If he exerts himself, it will slow the healing down. Then his magic will return in its entirety. So be patient,” the Prophet explained.
He began to turn and walk into the dark. But you took one step closer to where he walked.
“So all I do is find the flowers and give it to Loki?” you questioned.
The Prophet paused. Then he turned around, with a small, if not mischievous smile.
“That is, if you wish to complete your True Love’s healing.”

A Second Chance
This has been sitting in my WIP pile for a while but I've finally finished writing this!
I do hope you enjoy the sequel to In Another Life inspired by @just-someone11 comment
Ok listen i knew it would be angst. I pushed back reading this knowing it would be angst but still :((((((. wonderfully written and if you find the inspiration maybe you could write Loki meeting y/n in the new life? Idk maybe as tom and yn.....oh oh oh or after Loki dies, so more reuniting in the afterlife
If you like more, check out my Masterlist
Summary: An alternate life brings you and Loki together, along with it is the realization that whatever timeline you may be - you are both connected to each other
Warnings: Angst, mentions of death, fluff, multiverse stuff,
Tumblr media
You've always hated winter - maybe it's the numbing cold that you had to endure every time you have to go out or the fact that everything around you is devoid of color because of the accumulating snow.
This time around, you despised it because you had to walk home into the blizzard under heavy layers of clothing after covering an extra shift for your co-worker who caught the flu in this weather.
You buried your hands inside the fluffy pockets of your coat and hid your face under your scarf to shield you.
Loki and Thor ran through the snow-covered streets of New York chasing after the remaining HYDRA super soldier that stole a rune dagger made from the stinger of a creature from Jotunheim. The same creature in the stories guards the powerful orb. Both are directly connected to each other and have the ability to link the minds of the person's variants, accessing the past, present, and future of one's self in different multiverses. HYDRA was supposed to use the dagger to learn how to unlock this knowledge on Earth, as everything connected to it has been long lost in Asgard. The soldier was almost successful in getting away after fending off Thor and Loki by spreading nerve gas and creating chaos along the way.
────────────────────────
As you were lost in your thoughts, you noticed people around you starting to scramble and run away. You tried assessing the situation and noticed that a super soldier was headed in your direction. You made sure that the people were safe before stepping in and blocking the super soldier. He triggered an unpleasant piece of memory you tried to bury deep in your subconscious.
He ran straight at you, but you were able to use his momentum to throw him straight to the ground and drop an axe kick to his gut before punching him square in the face for good measure, knocking him senseless with a few broken bones.
Before starting your new life as an EMT in New York, you were secretly trained to become an assassin for years by your HYDRA captors after they discovered you were frozen in a lake in Antarctica. You exhibited great fighting skills, exceeding super soldiers even without using the serum, despite lacking any hint of memory prior to being captured. They tried experimenting on you way too many times to discover what you are or where you're from—the best they could come up with was that you were not from Earth.
You were staring down at the unconscious soldier beneath you when your scarf flew away. You scrambled to catch it, but someone got to it first. You looked at the person, and your heart pounded like a battering ram against your chest. You took the scarf and meekly said thanks, but your eyes were locked against each other.
For years, you were their best hit person, until one night you were tasked with dispatching the scientist who's been taking care of you since you arrived at the facility, as she was discovered to be a spy for SHIELD. In her dying breath, she urged you to discover who you truly were and not what HYDRA just wanted you to be. It made you run away to start a new life and be who you are now. Maybe in this new life, you could save lives instead of taking them away.
"Isn't that…" Thor whispered to Loki.
"Y/N?" Loki said as he looked at you intently, etching your very being in his mind.
"Oh no, I'm not y/n. You must have gotten the wrong person."
Nobody had ever called you y/n before but it felt like it always has when Loki says it. It felt like your name was y/n all this time, despite this being your first time hearing it. Was it even the first time?
You got lost in your thoughts when a familiar, searing heat ran through your back. Thor was quick to disarm the now-conscious soldier when he found out he used the rune dagger to stab you. Loki caught you in his arms before you started convulsing.
Memories of all of yourselves flashed before your eyes—what was, what is, and what will be all flashing before you, even your lost memory. You saw the timeline where both you and Loki died after you tried obtaining the orb by Odin's orders. You saw how you fought and defeated the creature in a different universe, with you dying before Loki could get to you and him dying in grief because of your death, encased in permafrost in Jotunheim.
There was also a brighter alternate reality where Loki was a famous actor going by the name of Tom, and there was you—a young scientist working at his grandfather's company. You caught his eye when he came there for a visit, and everything started when he invited you for a cup of coffee. You ended up marrying him and having a daughter together. It was perfect how you welcome him with a kiss every time he comes home from work and your daughter rushes to be carried in her father's arms.
You saw your own past in this universe before you arrived on Earth, Loki was about to confess his love for you when you arrived from one of your battles, and you were about to too, but Odin did not like that, so before you both could, he sent you away to obtain the orb in exchange for his blessing.
In this timeline, Loki thought you knew about his intention and you decided to run away, so he did not pursue you any further, but the reality was that, instead of facing the creature, Laufey found you first and fought against you. Your prowess and resilience made him admire you as a warrior. Instead of killing you, he ended up wiping all of your memory using the orb and banishing you to Midgard, where you were encased in permafrost, which HYDRA discovered.
It felt like forever processing everything all at once, but Loki held you tightly in his arms to protect you from hurting yourself as tears flooded your eyes. You passed out in his arms shortly after. One thing is for sure, in every timeline - you are connected to Loki by the red string of fate.
"What do you intend to do, brother, with the dagger and with her?" Thor asked, handing him the dagger and glancing at you.
Loki took the dagger and used his seidr to vanish it away. "We need to get to the bottom of this. But for now, I need to protect y/n, more than ever. I can't bear to lose her again, brother. We are bringing her to the tower for now; then we must head to Asgard." He spoke as he looked at you. He tucked in the stray hair covering your face behind your ears to take a closer look—you are indeed his y/n, the love of his life.
There are a million things running through his mind right now, but seeing you, he knew he had found a part of him that he tried to lock away when you were gone, a part that loved you and connected both of you against time, space, and all of the multiverse. He swore secretly to himself that he wouldn't lose you again—not in this timeline at least.

Tome of fate

Chapter 1
Summary: This is basically an AU story about Loki, prince of Jotunheim, and the reader, princess of Asgard, meeting in the Utgardhall's library.
Warnings: fluff and Jotun Loki :)
Words: 1315
Tumblr media
Your older brother Thor was meant to rule Asgard one day and you were chosen to maintain and forge diplomatic relations with the other realms, at least that was the hope Odin still clung to. You couldn't have been more different than your brother, although also being a formidable fighter and somewhat social if required, you rather preferred the company of a good book and the quiet of the night while sitting in the library absorbing all the stories and knowledge available. You were also known to cause a lot of mischief around the palace with your pranks but the fact that you somehow managed to talk your way out of it most of the time made the Allfather think that, some day, you'd actually use those skills for the good of the realm. Which lead you to this very moment, walking down the long halls of Utgardhall alongside Odin and king Laufey who was one of your father's most precious allies. Your feet suddenly stopped dead in their tracks in front of an open door as your eyes spotted the many bookshelves of the palace library. Your eyes sparkled at the marvelous sight of the old leather-bound tomes stacked neatly together, drawing you into the room as if possessed by a spell until you heard the Allfather call your name, followed by an amused chuckle from Laufey.
"I see your daughter treasures the written word more than the spoken one. May I propose to let her do so for now, old friend", the king's hand rested on Odin's shoulder, "she will need to hold negotiations soon enough, she should have the opportunity to enjoy Utgardhall's library today."
You paced slowly through the room, your fingertips brushing of the spines of the carefully bound and neatly stacked books. Asgard's library was clearly bigger and brighter but this one left you in awe with the sunlight shining through its large stained-glass window, bursting into an opalescent cataract of azure, emerald, gold and ivory. The image kindled a cozy feeling deep inside you as if you'd be sitting at a crackling fire enjoying its comforting warmth while a snow storm raged outside. Your eyes strayed from the window to the bookshelf on the left, stopping at the sight of a protruding and rather big book, covered in time-worn black leather. You took it off the shelf, running your fingers along the ice blue runes on the cover. You learned to read and write older runes from your tutors when you were younger but these seemed so different from the ones you studied. The shapes looked somewhat familiar until they seem to twist into something much older. You carefully opened the book, skimming through the faded pages as you tried to concentrate your gaze on the many runes and the few beautifully drawn and colourful illustrations at the beginning of each chapter.
"I wonder what this is", you mumbled absorbed in your thoughts.
"The tales of how my people and this realm came to be", a gentle male voice spoke up behind you.
Startled your hands let go of the book and it fell towards the ground, a big blue hand catching it right before it could hit the floor. You gulped uncomfortably at the sudden clumsiness as you slowly turned around. Your eyes widened at the sight of the rather good looking Jotun standing right next to you. He was obviously taller than you but due to being bent forward, his face was at the same height as yours, close enough to feel his hot breath fan over your blushing cheeks. Every part of mind screamed at you not to but you kept staring at him without a single word leaving your usually eloquent mouth. Your eyes traveled from his dark lips, over the pale ridged markings up to his ruby eyes staring straight into your soul.
"I'm rather fond of this book so I'd prefer for it to not be dropped on the ground", he chuckled, a teasing grin spreading across his lips while he straightened up.
"I apologise", there was a crack in your voice, "given my love for books I can assure you that I'm usually more careful but you startled me."
"Well, we Frost Giants are known to frighten others," a sad expression spread across his face while he tried to smile, eyes glued to the book he was still holding.
You watched him carefully, intrigued by the depth of his sadness emanating from him as he spoke and it stirred something deep inside you, a sudden urge to to show kindness and bring back that grin from earlier. You didn't know this man but meeting him in a place that some of your fellow Aesir would have mockingly described as your natural habitat, witnessing his endearing humorous way to talk about books, it connected the two of you in a way neither of you could have fathomed.
"Can you read it?", you asked, pointing at the book.
"Well what kind of Jotun would I be if I couldn't?", he snickered.
"Read it to me", you requested, stretching your arms up so one hand could reach and carefully open the book he was still holding while the other motioned to a large divan in the corner of the room, "please."
The Jotun didn't look at you, his eyes remained firmly on the first page, but just before turned around to walk to the divan, you could spot the corners of his mouth twitching into a gentle smile.
"Well how could I refuse if I'm being asked by such a beautiful lady."
You felt the heat creep up your cheeks as you sat next to him. Despite the Frost Giants being welcome in Asgard and not considered enemies, they were still a rather unusual sight in your realm, with rumours circulating amongst the noble families about how brutish and uncivilized the Giants could be and yet here you were in the heart of Jotunheim, sitting next to this particular Jotun reading you the origin story of his kind.
"There was in times of old, where Ymir dwelt, nor sand nor sea, nor gelid waves", his soft but deep voice filled the room.
"Wait", goosebumps forming on your arm as your hand moved up touching his cold blue skin.
His ruby eyes studied you curiously while you flicked your fingers, an emerald mist wisping from the tips, floating in front of you and slowly transforming into a bright faintly translucent image of the words he just read out of the book. His mouth opened slightly at the sight, he'd seen spells many times, he was even capable to cast some himself, but the entire encounter with you, leading up to this moment as you used your seidr to make it seem as the story of his kind was alive, gifting him with the opportunity to see the story come to life filled his heart with a happiness he never believed to be real. It was the random act of kindness from a stranger that filled his eyes with tears of joy.
"I'm Loki", he almost sobbed, not daring to look at you.
Your eyes widened at the sudden realisation that you were sitting next to Laufey's son, the next king of Jotunheim whom you just asked to read to you. You murmured your name in between hitched breaths, shifting nervously on the divan.
"It is a pleasure meeting you, princess", he almost whispered and his gaze finally shifted to your delicate frame next to him.
Your eyes met and while your face felt like it was burning, you could have sworn to detect a slight shade of pink on his blue cheeks before you nodded and put your concentration back on your seidr.
"Earth existed not, nor heaven above, 'twas a chaotic chasm, and grass nowhere.", he continued calmly, unable to hide a content smile.

Notes: I'm not sure if this is headed anywhere^^ I'm very hesitant if I should add more chapters, especially since I still have 2 ongoing series, 1 even about Loki, that I somehow neglect all the time xD

Chapter 3 - The Council
Series Masterlist
<- Chapter 2
Summary: Loki meets up with the council for the first time and gets confronted with his past doings.
Warnings: internalized racism, a bad reference to the sex-pollen trope, cringey writing
Word count: 2.640
Tumblr media
You had walked through the icy streets for a while. Everything here reminded you of medieval markets at the renaissance fair just on ice. The houses that were planted without a specific pattern rose around the, what you assumed, marketplace.
As you walked by some stands, Jotuns hastily packed up their goods. You smiled at one of the market traders, but she only rewarded you with a cold stare.
“Can I ask you something?” you quietly asked Loki.
“If it’s not a pun.” he huffed as he stomped through the snow. “…it’s not a pun.” you glared at him for ruining the perfect opportunity to lighten the mood, “I was just wondering why the Jotuns seem to-“
“Despise us?”
“Despise is such a strong word. I would’ve said that they seem wary of us.”
“Admit it, you wanted to say ‘icy’ in the first place.” Loki raised his eyebrow at you.
“Tsk, I would never.” you feigned innocence, “And stop deflecting my question.”
“Jotuns don’t like other beings. If you do not look like them, you are simply beneath them. They hate each and everyone, even their own kin.” Loki explained reluctantly.
“But why?”
“Because Frost giants are primitive beings who oppose any rules and generally create havoc and hassle.” you could hear the bitterness in Loki’s voice.
“So that’s where you got your mischievous side?” you chuckled out loud but regretted it instantly. Loki stopped dead in his tracks as he looked down at you sternly.
“I’m not like them.” he pressed through gritted teeth. Silence fell over you heavily as you continued your stroll.
“I didn’t mean to insult you…” you whispered sheepishly; your eyes glued to the path before your feet.
“Let’s just get back to our rooms.” Loki changed the topic. You walked in silence for a while when you arrived at the gardens before the palace. Your gaze wandered over the uneven path as you tried to navigate your feet around all the icy lumps and clumps that got denser the closer you got to the garden.
At first, you hadn’t even realised that the weird-looking clumps on the floor were flowers but as you got closer the icy clumps emerged into intricate flowers that glistened in the setting sunlight.
“Woow, look at these! They look like ice.” you gasped and let yourself fall onto your knees, right in front of the flowers.
“Don’t touch them!” Loki hurriedly exclaimed.
“Why? Are they poisonous?” your pulled back your hand instantly.
“No… but I don’t think you’d like their effect on you.” Loki hummed and hawed.
“Why? No… are you for real? Are they like these aphrodisiacs you hear of all the time?” you asked with a cheeky grin.
“Well.. yeah. Kind of.” Loki rubbed his neck awkwardly, “But they won’t bloom until spring if not disturbed.”
“What would happen if you’d touch them,” you asked with curious eyes.
“Y/N, I’m not going to explain this in detail. I believe you can imagine it without my help.” you could see a faint tint of red spreading over Loki’s cheeks. You loved teasing him, especially when you succeeded.
“Man, I never realised how prude you can be. This isn’t about anything nasty. I just wanna understand the science behind it. After all, I’m here to learn more about Jotunheim.” You shrugged innocently.
“Maybe another time. I have to meet with the council in a bit. I don’t want them to wait for me… in the end, they’ll plot against me if I don’t show up on time.” Loki cleared his throat.
“You really are something… so distrustful.” You shook your head slightly, “Try going into this a bit more positively. Might change how they’ll welcome you. This is strange for both sides Lo. All they know is, that you suddenly showed up. They don’t know for what.”
“I know these people.” Loki remarked almost sad, “All they know is to stir up conflict. I’m just trying to think ahead of them.”
“Maybe they’ll surprise you… in a positive way.” you shrugged.
Tumblr media
His fists were clenched tightly as he approached the courtroom with long strides. His footsteps echoed through the icy hallways, bouncing off the walls. When he entered through the tall doors, he could feel the tense mood that lay over the room as he walked to an empty seat that was close by the socle in the centre of the hall. All the while he was closely monitored by a dozen of ruby eyes.
As one of the elders stepped onto the socle to begin the conference, he could hear hushed whispers all around him. He knew he wasn’t welcome here, that’s why he didn’t want to come back in the first place. The last time he had interacted with Jotunheim it hadn’t ended well. Loki’s attention was quickly pulled back to the present as the voice of the elder resounded through the icy hall.
"We are gathered here today as one to speak about the future of our nation. As we have known for a long time, the winters have become harsher and the…" Ymir, the elder suddenly began to hesitate for a moment as if he was searching for the most diplomatic words possible, "external influences have hastened the decay of our great nation. That's why we have come together to find a solution as a union of Jotunheim and… Midgard." Ymir drawled the last word, "Our rightful King has returned to assist us in our efforts and mend the relation between our nation and Midgard."
As diplomatic as Ymir tried to sound, Loki could still tell that the appreciative-sounding words were spoken with a hint of indifference towards Loki's efforts. He didn't seem to be convinced of the King's motives yet, probably assuming that Loki wouldn't pull through with his assistance.
“We don’t need a traitor to help us!” a voice suddenly disrupted the order, heads turning and chatter starting to erupt. Loki's eyes snapped away from the elder, scanning the crowd as to make out the instigator.
“Silence!” Ymir boomed sharply, “This is a court of order not chaos.” he scolded sharply.
“But the people are right, Ymir.” another Jotun raised from his seat, standing up to Ymir, “We are making progress already without help from any other tenuous realm. We don’t need their pity.”
Loki’s face twitched. How dare this arrogant Jotun to think he was too good to get assistance from outside this god-forsaken realm, let alone from Loki. If anything, he wasn’t worth Loki’s time or effort. Especially if he didn’t even want help in the first place. Loki glared at the impudent Jotun, his jaw clenching as he stared him down.
“We have everything under control. We don’t need help.” The Jotun grumbled deeply, shooting Loki a scornful glare.
“Yet your population is still shrinking alarmingly with each passing day.” Loki found himself sneering as he got to his feet before he even processed what he was doing.
“You helped decimate us in the first place.” The Jotun spat back, taking a menacing step towards Loki who didn't budge the slightest.
“But I have returned to help.” Loki continued sternly, “What more do you want from me?”
“How? Will you do to us what you have done to your father? Will you wipe us out like the other Frost Giants when you directed the Bifrost directly at us? Why should we trust you?” the Jotun growled with bared teeth.
Loki swallowed thickly. He knew that it wasn’t a smart idea to come here again. It was just a matter of time for the Jotuns to lunge at him for his past doings and end his life for goof. His body tensed up, bracing for the inevitable attack. What would they do to you once he was incapacitated to protect you?
He jumped a bit when the elder Ymir chimed in again, stepping between the two placidly.
“I know the emotions are still running high on either side of this conflict.” he began calmly, addressing the Jotun directly now, “But we have gathered to find a solution, not to stir up another war between the realms. King Loki has returned, despite his wrongdoings in the past, and he is here to help us as a nation to overcome the shortcomings that were caused by the conflicts of the past. We do not ask you to forgive him, but we urge you to think of the future of our kind. Your parents, brothers and sisters, children and all the coming generations. Think of them and what you could provide for them if we manage to overcome these trying times.”
Loki was surprised by Ymir’s words. Since when had the Frost Giant developed a sense of community or even empathy? And since when were children, not a mere necessity to continue their bloodline, devil-may-care? He was actually talking of families and lives and how they could improve their future, not just how to maintain the mere existence of their race.
Loki and the Jotun exchanged one last glare before sitting back down again, the session progressing more proficiently. The conference continued till late into the night as the Jotuns described their predicament in great detail to fill Loki in.
“Elder Ymir.” Loki approached him once the discussion had ended, the other Jotuns already leaving. “Thank you for-“ but before he could finish his sentence, the elder raised his hand to quiet Loki.
“If I may give you advice, your highness…. maybe if you did not oppose to your own skin as much you could be able to reach their hearts.”  he looked deep into Loki’s eyes as if to reach Loki’s own heart with his suggestion. Loki felt taken aback by his request, his nose flaring as his throat constricted.
“I’m not opposed to anything.” he lied, trying to keep his voice steady.
“Then it surely won’t be a problem to take a step towards your kind and get closer to a compromise, would it?” the elder remarked slyly.
“No… I supposed not.” Loki replied small as if he was taken back to being a young boy being led kindly in the right direction by his father. An odd feeling, Loki had to admit.
“I’m sure we’ll be able to come to a solution, sire.” Ymir gently patted Loki’s arm, “Just give your people time to process what’s happening. They’re scared, overwhelmed and wary. Give them some time to adjust… to build trust.”
“I will try my best.” Loki nodded.
“Thank you, your highness.” a small smile played on the lips of the elder, “Let’s get some rest and continue our negotiations in the morning.”
Loki nodded and as if he was under a spell, he parted ways with the elder, walking back to his chambers. On his way, he started to gradually snap out of his trance, as if he had been so shocked by the elder’s kindness, that he had forgotten all his effervescent emotions that wanted to spill over his lips during the discussion. Loki still didn’t like the idea of having to change into his Jotun form, but he argued with himself that this diplomatic mission would go over quicker if he’d make the first step towards reconciliation and show up as one of them to earn their trust. Even if he didn’t want to earn anything because he had nothing to prove to anyone... it wouldn’t hurt to get what he wanted quicker if that meant tricking Jotuns into believing he was one of them. After all, these daft creatures would eat from his hands in no time. Loki was sure of that.
Tumblr media
Days passed quickly as Loki started to find his rhythm. During the mornings he could chat with you while having breakfast together while you talked about all your plans for the day. You had already managed to make friends with the young Maid Aria that had brought you to your room on the first day in Jotunheim. Loki envied you for your open nature and the ease you had to make people feel comfortable around you. Loki had been wary of Aria at first, but she had turned out as an exception to any Jotun he had ever met. She was timid and kind, always looking for ways to make him and you feel more welcomed and comfortable around the palace. And if you liked and trusted her, Aria couldn’t be too bad, that’s at least how Loki argued with himself.
As soon as Loki would leave the dining hall to walk towards the council, his skin would slowly start to change hues, getting paler with each echoing step he took until it turned from a soft sky blue into a rich dark blue colour that made his features appear even harsher, the intricate markings not helping either. Even his clothes changed into something more appropriate in Jotunheim. He felt exposed without his armour plate, feeling vulnerable to possible attacks by disgruntled members of the council. But as long as he was able to avoid any reflecting surfaces, he would be ok and soon forget about his changed appearance.
But Ymir had been right. The Jotuns were slowly warming up to the idea of Loki helping them. After their long days in court, he was finally brought out to inspect the damages the attacks by the Aesir had left. Not only the devastating impact of his own attack but also the liberation struggles of Odin and even Thor's visits had left their impression on the Jotunheim's infrastructure. Deep craters lined all over the terrain, pulling apart neighbouring houses and villages. Loki couldn’t help the feeling of shame and dread creep up as he saw all the destroyed homes that lay in ruins. The remnants of their inhabitors left behind to rot away slowly, a bitter memory of what once had housed a loving family.
Often times when Loki came back after these gruelling and draining meetings, he'd head directly to the living area of the palace, his shimmer set back into place firmly before he even entered the wing you were allowed to roam freely in. When he'd enter through the wooden doors, you either were welcoming him back with a huge smile and a tight hug, taking away all these negative feelings and thoughts he had gathered during the day. You would report your daily discoveries, making him forget anything that he had seen that day, even if it was just for a few hours.
On other nights, just like tonight, you were already fast asleep on the couch in front of the fireplace, too tired to wait for Loki to come back. Loki couldn’t help the smile that tugged on the corners of his mouth as he watched you sleep peacefully for a moment. And then he felt it again. He interpreted it as the envy of your ability to sleep so peacefully. You had nothing that kept you awake at night. You hadn’t done anything as horrible as he had done. Maybe it was fair that he would toss and turn each night, as he realised that he was indeed not any different than the Jotun's. He had been just as much of a monster as they were. Destroying the houses and the lives of innocent, no matter how awful they might have been or could've turned out to be.
Loki shook away these thoughts quickly, instead leaning over your frame and softly kissing your hair before he scooped you up into his arms to carry you back to your room, so you could get a well-deserved night's rest. Loki noticed that the wind outside had picked up tonight, the snow dunes whipping against the windows of the castle as he walked past them. The storm had arrived quicker than Loki had anticipated and it seemed to be quite substantial.

Four-year-old Ella was kneeling on a chair, which stood in front of the big window pane in the living room. The little girl had both her hands pressed against the glass, watching the snowflakes dance through the chilly winter air of New York City. She loved snow - what was absolutely no wonder. After all, she had some Jotun blood running through her veins.
Her hands were tinged in a soft blue, due to the coldness of the window pane, which managed to tickle her inner Frost Giant awake. "Sweetheart, what are you doing?" You asked with a sweet smile, as you walked into the living room with two mugs of hot chocolate in your hands. "Are you watching the snow again?" Ella nodded. "Uh.Huh." You shook your head, but smiled; knew exactly why she did that. She started to watch the snow, since it began to fall. It reminded her of her father, who was currently away on royal duty on Jotunheim - since almost five months now. Ella was missing him terribly. Sure, Loki was staying in touch, of course, but it wasn't the same. It wasn't the real thing – and since the season had changed and Christmas was almost right around the corner, the little girl seemed to miss her dad even more.
A sad sigh left your lips as you set the mugs down on the small table and stepped over to your daughter. "Do you miss daddy, princess?" The girl nodded, head hanging low. "So much, mommy..." Your heart ached at the broken, sad and almost painful voice of your daughter. You ran your hand gently, lovingly through her thick, black curls and leaned down to press a kiss on her head. "I know, sweetie, I know... I miss daddy as well." She turned to face you, looking up at you with her big, blue eyes. "Do you know when he is coming back?" You shook your head, "No, I'm sorry, sweet girl. I wish I knew, but I don't." and handed her a cup of hot chocolate, which Ella took with a small smile. "Thank you." You both took a big sip, relishing in the taste of the sweet, chocolaty drink. "What would you like to do this afternoon, sweetheart?" You asked her, deciding that it was for the best to somehow take her mind off of Loki for a while. "Umm..." Ella started, thinking about what to say. You looked at her and noticed with a smile, that her upper lip was still coated in whipped cream and hot chocolate, giving her a literal moustache. She looked utterly cute. "Can we go out in the snow?" You raised an eyebrow. "Again?" It wasn't like you spent almost the whole week outside for hours and hours. Ella just loved snow and took everybody with her, who had time. On Monday, she was out with you. On Tuesday, she took Happy with her – okay, okay, actually took Happy Ella with him, to be entirely honest. He was totally not using your daughter as an excuse to go sledding and built a snowman. Absolutely not! On Wednesday she was out with Eisa, Jane and you - again. On Thursday, she took uncle Bruce and auntie Nat with her and yesterday, uncle Tony had to bite the bullet. Of course, they enjoyed going out with the little girl. Especially Happy. "Yes! Please, mommy! Please!" How could you say no to her? You started to smile and nod. "Alright, my little Frost Giant. Go, get dressed." Her eyes lit up at your words and she squealed in excitement, "Yay!" before she hopped down from the chair and sprinted out of the living room to get dressed. You watched her run away, with a giggle. Oh, how much you loved her.
An hour later, you were walking through the snowy streets, on your way to go to the hill you spent the most time at this week. Ella's small hand in your left hand, the string of the wooden sled in your right hand. Ella was looking up, head tilted back. Her mouth was opened, tongue jutted out to catch snowflakes. You giggled; her behaviour reminding you of your own childhood. Who didn't do that as a kid?
After a ten minute walk, you arrived at the small hill, where a few other kids were already sledding. Ella practically dragged you there and what could you say? You had the fun of your life - and so did Ella. You always loved winter and the snow. There was just something special about this season… Something magical…
When you climbed the hill for the approximately thousandth time this day and got seated on the sledge with Ella sitting between your spread legs, ready for take-off, the little girl suddenly tapped your arm repeatedly. "Mommy, mommy!" She called out, trying to get your attention. You looked down at her quickly, thinking something was wrong. "What is it, Ella?" She pointed into distance - towards the Avengers compound to be exactly. "Look, look!" You followed her pointing, causing your eyes to widen. The snow and grey sky were blocking your view a bit, but you could clearly see the large ray of rainbow light breaking through the thick blanket of clouds. It was the Bifrost - without a doubt. Loki. A gasp left your lips at the realisation that he must have arrived back home – in that very moment. "It's daddy, mommy! He is back! He is back!" Ella squealed excitedly, before she wriggled about on the sled. "I-It seems so, y-yes." "We have to go, we have to go!" Your daughter was absolutely right. So, you gave the sledge the final nudge to manoeuvre it over the 'cliff' and together you sled down the small hill. The sledge didn't come even entirely to a halt, when Ella already jumped off of it and started to run through the snow, back towards the tower. "Ella!" You stood up and called after her, "Ella! Wait!" but she ignored your words and kept on running; her father being the only thing on her mind. You cursed slightly under your breath, before you quickly jogged after her, sledge in tow. For a four-year-old, she was very fast, like you noticed. You weren't able to outrun her. Perhaps it was also the fault of the not exactly weightless wooden sledge you had to drag behind you, but well… at least you saw her from distance. As fast as your feet could carry you, you made your way towards your home. Ten minutes later, you had finally reached your destination - just in time to witness one of the most beautiful things your eyes had ever seen…
The Bifrost was closed by now, of course, but you had been right with your assumption. It was Loki and Thor. They were both back and now standing on the big snowed in yard of the compound, clad in their Asgardian armour. Loki's raven hair was turning white, as he talked to his brother; snowflakes caught on his long curls. His black and emerald green cape was flapping in the cold winter breeze, golden armour reflected by the white snow. Ella's small legs seemed to work even harder, getting her to her dad even faster. Her pink snowsuit and beanie literally glowed through the white, as she ran and ran. "Daddy! Daddy!" Ella screamed so loud, that even you could hear her. You saw how Loki turned swiftly around at her screams. The voice of his daughter ringing in his ears caused his heart to speed up. And when he laid eyes upon the little girl running towards him, he felt like he was going to cry right then and there out of sheer boundless happiness. That was his child, his little girl, his princess coming for him. He feared his heart was going to burst because of the love he felt, radiating throughout his whole body. "I am going to see you later, brother." He heard Thor say in a happy voice, followed by a clap on his shoulder, before the God of Thunder trudged away; eager to meet his own family again after this long time. Ella got closer; her happy giggles echoing over the yard. Loki beamed at her, took a few steps forwards and squatted down, opening his arms for Ella to run into. "Daddyyyyy!" The girl yelled once again, when she had reached him, literally jumping in his awaiting arms. Her little legs and arms wound themselves around the God's body, holding on for dear life. Loki enveloped her in a tight hug, inhaling her scent, as silent tears of happiness ran down his cheeks. Oh how much he had missed her. "My sweet girl." He mumbled in her beanie covered hair, "My princess." before he leaned back slightly to pepper her cheeks with wet, sloppy kisses. "Daddy stop! That tickles!" Ella giggled, as Loki's raven curls brushed her face. The God just chuckled as well, more than happy to finally have his daughter back in his arms after those torturous five months. "Why are you crying, daddy?" Ella asked her father, quite a bit confused now, to which Loki just shook his head. "Those are happy tears, princess. I am so happy to see you again. I missed you so much." Her eyes brightened, shining with love. "I missed you too, daddy!"
Your husband and daughter were clinging at each other, when you finally had reached them as well. You had shortly feared that the scene playing out in front of your eyes was your own imagination, tricking you - but it wasn't a trick. It was real. "Loki..." You literally gasped, both because you were out of breath and utterly surprised by his sudden arrival. His oceanic blue eyes immediately lifted to look you straight in the eyes. "Y/N!" He let Ella down gently and quickly bridged the short distance separating you from him. The familiar scent of him infiltrated your senses, as he pulled you tightly against his amour clad chest. Leather, cedarwood and pine, combined with something dark and musky you couldn't put a finger on. It was just Loki. You inhaled deeply and locked your arms around him, bathing in the sensation to just feel his presence. You tangled your fingers in his long curls and buried your face in his chest. Once again, Loki felt some tears escaping the corners of his eyes. Oh how he had longed to feel your body against his again. He was dying to feel your touch - and suddenly here you were, safe and securely in his arms. "Darling..." He whispered in a low, husky voice. "My goddess, my queen, my wife… I missed you so much." You lifted your head, eyes dancing over every inch of skin on his handsome face. "I missed you too... So so much." With his hands on your hips, you stood on your tiptoes to lock your lips on his. Sighing happily in the kiss you were giving him, he pulled you once again closer, not intending to let you go again in near future - and that was exactly what Loki did.
With Ella on one arm and the other wrapped around your waist, he guided you into the big building and up to your apartment. He spent the rest of the afternoon with Ella, catching up on the lost time with his daughter. They were inseparable, sticking to each other like glued together - until it was time for Ella to go to bed. Although she didn't sleep. Not before Loki was curled up beside her. The God loved it to spend time with Ella, but there was another important person he desperately wanted to spend time with... You. He was in lack of your presence for so long. His heart, soul and body longed for you. Yes, he was literally touch-starved.
Sneaking out of the now sleeping girl's room, he tiptoed down the hallway towards the bedroom, where he found you laying already embedded in the sheets, reading. As soon as you noticed him, you laid your book aside and smiled at him. "Ella asleep?" The God nodded. "Yes. Sleeping like a baby." Your smile even widened, as you patted his side of the bed, which had been cold and empty for so many nights - except the ones Ella had slept beside you, after a nightmare had haunted her in her sleep or because she couldn't sleep at all. "C'mere, babe... I missed you..." You said, repeating your words from earlier. The touch-starved God didn't let himself tell that twice. With quick steps he rounded the bed, got rid of his sweater and sweatpants, before he slipped underneath the covers, immediately searching for your touch. As soon, as your head came to rest on his bare chest and your fingertips into contact with the skin of his stomach, a pleasant shiver run down his spine. He felt whole again. This was exactly where he needed to be. Where he wanted to be. You felt exactly the same way. Without a doubt. No words needed to be exchanged, as you just enjoyed to cuddle him; to feel his beating heart underneath your palm.
Just as you were about to doze off, your bedroom door suddenly creaked open softly, almost hesitatingly. Seconds later, Ella's head peaked through the small gap, tired, sleepy eyes looking at you. "Daddy?" She quipped. "Princess? What's wrong? Can't you sleep?" "Why did you just leave me?" Ella asked, rubbing her eyes, while she stepped fully in the room. "I'm sorry, sweet girl, but I wanted to be with mommy, cuddle her too." Her blue eyes wandered from Loki to you and back. "Can I come, too?" Loki and you looked at each other, smiling softly, before nodding at the small girl. "Of course, princess. Come here. But close the door behind you." On lightning speed, Ella closed the door and literally jumped in the bed, making herself comfortable under your cosy blankets, so that she was sandwiched between you and Loki. You turned off your bedside lamp, before the three of you cuddled close together and just enjoyed each other's presence. There was nothing better in this whole, wide world, than seeing Loki again after being separated for such a long time and just cuddling him and Ella close.

I swear no Loki costume is as under-appreciated as his Jotunheim outfit, so every once in a while I have to bring it back to remind folks what a badass look this is! I feel like it’s about as “sorcerer” as we ever get in the films and I always wished it had more screen time that wasn’t mostly poorly lit scenes. It was also INCREDIBLY complicated to pattern as I found out!
I want to go back to Ice Castles NH sooo badly—it was an amazing place to shoot, even if we did end up choosing a day where it was 25F and started actively snowing halfway through. 🤣 #Loki

Note
Jotunheim mostly have root vegetables for their greens. They are more foragers than farmers, though trading is quite common
Jotuns that live near the ocean have seaweed and such as a large part of their cuisine
It's a regular process to dry and stock their vegetables
in my heart, these things are just true. i also really like what @unityrain24 said about the plants being white, and i always figured most plants would grow either deep underneath the snow, underwater, or in caves

How Tom Hiddleston Characters Would Spend the Winter Holidays (Plus Presents They Would Give You)
(Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters or images. This is just a fun listicle, not designed to offend anyone. As always, please feel free to leave comments and/or constructive criticism below. Thank you, and without any further ado, please enjoy!)
A/N: I hope you all have/have had a wonderful holidays! Wishing you all a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Characters in this listicle include: Will Ransome, King Henry V,  Prince Hal, Prince Loki of Asgard, Loki of Asgard and Jotunheim, Bill Hazeldine, Caius Martius Coriolanus, Jonathan Pine, Robert Laing, Magnus Martinsson, Oakley, Thomas Sharpe, and Jaguar Villain Tom Hiddleston
Will Ransome from The Essex Serpent
Tumblr media
• For Will, celebrating the holidays would most certainly include a special service at the church on Christmas morning. The bells would ring, inviting everyone in Aldwinter to gather. Will would read from the scriptures for all to hear. Then, the choir would perform a series of carols, and Will would sit in the pew along with the rest of the attendees. Offering you a genuine smile, he would gently hold your hand while the choir sang.
• After the service came to an end, Will would offer you his coat if you seemed cold, gently draping it around your shoulders while you walked home together. If you needed anything for the Christmas dinner or for the night
• And in the evening, Will would watch you prepare Christmas dinner for the both of you. He wouldn't know much about cooking, but he would happily stand near you and talk to you, keeping you company while you toiled. Then, he would recite a small prayer thanking
• Christmas present Will would give you? Perhaps a simple gold pendant with a small gemstone like a diamond or an emerald. After supper, he'd approach you and whisper "Happy Christmas" while placing the necklace around your neck, pushing your hair out of the way.
King Henry V from The Hollow Crown
Tumblr media
• On Christmas morning, King Henry V would attend a special service at the church alongside you, his beloved queen.
• After the service, you and Henry would distribute alms (food, clothes, candles) among the poor citizens in the kingdom. According to the king, even the lowest are deserving of a proper Christmas
• Then, you and Henry would either take a carriage ride around the snow-laden city, waving to the citizens and wishing them a happy Christmas
• Or, you and the King of England would spend the rest of the afternoon inside your chambers, snuggled together by the fire with Henry resting his head on your lap while you caressed his auburn curls.
• Christmas present Henry would give you? A beautiful new red or blue gown with a set of gold jewelry.
Prince Hal from The Hollow Crown
Tumblr media
• Drinks! (Shots, shots, shots, shots - alright, I'll stop and retrieve my maturity)
• But truly, Christmas would be a time for Hal to indulge in all sorts of mischief in the tavern, including snagging Falstaff's most precious stash of liquor.
• He'd dare any willing patron to outdrink him, in the process getting them to do all sorts of stupid things like sing silly bards or flirt with someone.
• By the time you found your beloved prince, he'd probably be heavily tipsy with endless amounts of energy and whisky on his breath. As soon as he saw you, he'd jubilantly hug you and kiss you on the lips.
• Christmas present Hal would give you? A small gold ring, perhaps one with a ruby, that you could wear either around your neck or around your finger
Prince Loki of Asgard from Thor:
Tumblr media
• While Asgard doesn't celebrate Christmas per se, there would be plenty of Yule celebrations in the kingdom. As a prince and member of the royal family, Loki would be present at each of the important feasts, dressed in his signature emerald green robes and golden armor.
• He would have to listen to Odin and Thor drone about their various accomplishments - many of them brutish in nature - over the past year, entertaining the guests before the entrees could be served. But at least, Loki could entertain himself by enchanting Thor's cutlery to run away from the table, or by playing a trick that hypnotized Thor into speaking gibberish out of nowhere.
• Odin was not pleased with the amount of laughter from the guests directed at Thor
• But other than that, Loki would find reasons to enjoy the holiday season in Asgard - he would
• Yule Present that Loki would give you? A beautiful tiara embellished with emeralds and diamonds. For his rightful queen.
Loki of Asgard and Jotunheim from Avengers: Infinity War
Tumblr media
• In the days leading up to Christmas, Loki would find himself unwillingly stuck with Thor shopping around Midgard. It turned out that Thor was part of something called "Secret Santa" with the Avengers, where each of them had to buy a present for someone randomly assigned to them. Thor was given Wanda Maximoff, so he was combing through the shopping malls around New York City to find something for her.
• "Yes, yes, buy everything on the rack," Loki sarcastically remarked while Thor eyed a rack of gift baskets filled with soaps, bath oils, and body lotions. "It's not like you have a servant to carry your bags around for you."
• "Cheer up, brother! It's the season for joy…Do you want to sit on Santa Claus's lap?"
• But there was one reason Loki always tagged along with his brother's visits to Midgard in December: you
• While Thor was hanging out with the other Avengers, Loki would visit you - especially when you had days off from work or school - at your home.
• He'd arrive at the outside of your window, holding a bouquet of poinsettias or a bag of Christmas-themed candy for you to enjoy.
• And then, you and Loki would walk hand-in-hand through the town, admiring the colorful decorations. Loki personally wouldn't have cared for them a few years ago, but seeing your face light up with adoration made his heart absolutely warm with joy.
• On Christmas day, Loki even surprised you with a horse-driven carriage ride. He proudly showed up at your place, wearing his signature green robes and golden armor, as befitting a true prince of Asgard. Loki took your hand and seated you next to him, an arm around your shoulder. At the end of the carriage ride, he sweetly kissed you on the lips and murmured, "Merry Christmas, darling."
• Present that Loki would give you? A collection of your favorite books, with hidden notes handwritten by Loki between the pages.
Bill Hazeldine from Suburban Shootout
Tumblr media
• For Bill, Christmas is a time to be with the ones you love. He'd be happy to have you visit Little Stempington and meet his parents
• You might be a little intimidated at first, but Bill would assure you many times that his parents would like you
• You were courteous to bring his mother a box of French macarons since Bill told you his mum enjoyed French cuisine. And for his dad, you brought a bottle of liquor, which made him laugh.
• His mother thought you were a gem compared to Jewel, and his father jokingly said you were out of Bill's league ("you better hold onto this one, son. Don't let her get away.")
• After meeting his parents, Bill would take a chance to get some alone time with you in his bedroom, showing you things from his childhood - toys, trophies, rugby jerseys. You laughed and "aww'd" at the sight of one of the photos in his room; it was a one-year-old Bill wearing a nappy and crawling with a smile.
• Bill would chuckle, putting his arm around your amd stealing a kiss...only for his mother to walk in. (It didn't help that his dad loudly reminded Bill to "use protection")
• Still, you and Bill would have a lovely time with Bill's parents, getting to know each other better and helping prepare Christmas dinner for the four of you.
• Christmas gift Bill would give you: a snow globe with a waltzing couple inside it, and a silver bracelet he picked out
Coriolanus from Coriolanus
Tumblr media
• Coriolanus was always a serious man. Even when you came into his life and he married you, he was serious - hardly indulging himself in things like wine or opium
• (The one exception was you, his darkest kryptonite. Coriolanus couldn't seem to get enough of you, holding you close whenever you were in the same room. He just had to come to you and touch you and kiss you.)
• On the morning of the festivities, Coriolanus woke you up with a long, slow kiss. "Io Saturnalia," you cooed, slowly opening your eyes.
• He'd absolutely refuse to participate in the traditions he viewed as ludicrous, such as cross-dressing and the reversal of roles. But he would be more than happy to stand at the balcony with you and watch the plebians indulge themselves in shenanigans.
• And when he got tired of watching masters serve their slaves, and people breaking all sorts of rules in various states of intoxication, Coriolanus would pepper your neck with kisses and beckon you to your shared bedroom.
• BRIEF SMUT ALERT
• Whispering sweet nothings in your ear, he'd take the opportunity to kiss you all over
• With a naughty grin, he'd place you on the bed and lift the hem of your garment up to your hips and pleasure you with his tongue.
• It was an act considered vulgar among most people, so why not do it on the day of no rules? It was Coriolanus's one and only indulgence about it
• END OF SMUT (and time for me to atone for my sins)
• Saturnalia gift Coriolanus would give you? Perhaps a small trinket - like a small statue of Venus - or a new dress that made you look like a goddess.
Jonathan Pine from The Night Manager
Tumblr media
• Christmas was always a busy night for Jonathan, one that he would always choose to work without question. There would be lots of guests looking for rooms to stay durng their vacations, honeymoons, and holiday getaways.
• Still, he would find a way to have some alone time with you, even if it meant you visiting the front desk at 2 in the morning to see him.
• Jonathan would give you the gift he'd bought a few days ago, you would give him a set of cufflinks or a new tie for him to wear.
• Taking your hand, Jonathan would lead you to one of the hotel lounges (finding an empty suite would be highly unlikely given the amount of guests) to share a bottle of wine and some dinner, just the two of you.
• You'd both raise a glass to the holidays, and enjoy each other's company, talking about anything and everything.
• Christmas gift Jonathan would give you: A local piece of decoration from one of the local markets (like a small cowbell from Switzerland) and a box of sweets
Robert Laing from High-Rise
Tumblr media
• Christmas with Robert Laing would most certainly include accompanying him to one of Royal's parties (parties held by the so-called "architect" of the high-rise building)
• You would get dressed up on Christmas Eve, wearing something fancy for the occasion, before Robert picked you up at your place
• At the party,  the two of you would be near each other for the most part. And after a drink or two, Robert would get a bit more...flirty with you, stealing kisses from you while you conversed with the other guests and inviting you to the dance floor
• ("I've got a lovely lady on my arm," he'd tell them with a chuckle. "Can't really help it.")
• Robert would show off his dance moves, especially the ones that he knew would make you laugh. For someone who didn't laugh much, Robert sure enjoyed seeing you smile.
• And during the slow songs, Robert would melt a little on the inside when you rested your head against his chest and swayed with him.
• He'd take the opportunity to whisper, "Merry Christmas, darling....why don't you say we have a party of our own? Do a little...unwrapping before we celebrate?"
• Giggling, you would follow Robert into the bathroom -or just go to Robert's apartment - and...celebrate, just enough for the other guests to hear.
• Christmas present Robert would give you:  probably something elegant Iike perfume or a gift basket of lotions, soaps and body washes.
Magnus Martinsson from Wallander
Tumblr media
• The police station was having their own Christmas party, which was really nothing more than some alcohol and pudding
• (Wallander warned the officers not to drink too much in case there was an emergency...but who was listening?)
• Magnus brought you to the party as his date, and had an almost-protective arm around you while you mingled with his colleagues.
• After some insisting from you, he'd dance with you to some of the holiday songs playing on the radio, twirling you so you could show off your pretty red dress.
• Christmas present that Magnus would get you? A vinyl record of one of your favorite songs or recordings.
Oakley from Unrelated
Tumblr media
• You originally thought that Oakley would be going with his family to their Italian vacation home to spend Christmas while you stayed with your family, so it was a surprise when Oakley insisted on inviting you to accompany them.
• You agreed on a compromise, that you would join Oakley for Christmas and spend New Year's with your family
• While the two of you were in Italy, Oakley took on the role of "tour guide", giving you his personal insight while he showed you around the city. (And totally not bragging about how much Italian he knows)
• And he would make sure to show off in front of you every chance he got, especially if it involved something that made you laugh
• His father seemed to like you, and for once, they thought that Oakley might finally get some maturity now that he has a wonderful lady for a girlfriend.
• On Christmas morning, Oakley would sneak into your bedroom with a panetonne for the two of you to share with coffee, expecting to be paid with kisses
• The two of you would spend the rest of the day with Oakley's friends, playing "spin the bottle", "Truth or Dare"...all while getting very, very drunk.
• Christmas present that Oakley would give you? A bottle of Italian liqueur like limoncello (that you will hopefully ask him to help you drink), a framed photo of the two of you (so you can have a "piece of him" whereever you go), and a kiss under some mistletoe
Thomas Sharpe from Crimson Peak
Tumblr media
• After spending Christmas morning with his sister at Allerdale Hall, Thomas would go to visit you in the city.
• The two of you would enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride through the streets of London, enjoying the crisp, winter weather.
• And in the evening, Thomas would escort you to a Yuletide Ball that he and his sister- as well as your family - were invited to.
• Like a gentleman, he would pick you up from your residence, assuring your family that he would get you to the ball without any harm
• The two of you would spend the evening at the ball, waltzing in each other's arms, with Thomas praising your beauty throughout the night and whispering how he cannot wait to be your husband one day
• Christmas gift that Thomas would give you? A beautiful locket with portraits of you and him inside
Jaguar Villain!Tom Hiddleston
Tumblr media
• Tom absolutely loves to spoil you, his lady love and his darling, even during the holidays.
• Starting in early December, he'd give the bodyguard he hired for you a Black Visa card specifically to buy anything you looked at - jewelry, shoes, designer gowns, cosmetics, special chocolates, anything
• Tom wouldn't display any overt interest in "decking the halls" or "getting into the holiday spirit" but he would certainly give his associates and henchmen Christmas or Hannukah bonuses
• And he would totally let you decorate the apartment however you pleased, even if it means coming home to a "winter wonderland" every night.
• Christmas Day would be exclusively his time with you (and he would not take no for an answer)
• In the morning, he'd wake you up with a room filled with gifts for you, and plenty of kisses with your morning tea/coffee
• Seeing the amount of presents he bought for you, you would feel a little intimidated about giving him the tie and watch you bought for him.
• But Tom would immediately love it as soon as he opened your gift, promising to wear it as often as possible.
• After spending the afternoon with you in the bedroom...thanking you for your gift, Tom would take you out for the night, giving you a chance to get dressed up for him.
• He'd reserve a fancy dinner for the two of you, having the five-star restaurant book a private room so you could enjoy your meal
• Then, the two of you would go to the theater to see either a production of The Nutcracker, or a production of Shakespeare's Henry V - whichever you preferred.
• Christmas gift that Jaguar!Tom would give you? Without a doubt, he'd buy lingerie that he believe would suit you the best, and anything else that would even seem to tickle your fancy.

❅MCU Jotun Headcanons❅
in honor of @jotun-design-party by magpiemurder. I had been looking forward to this contest for several months, but i have not been able to do anything for it and i doubt i will magically be able to do something and submit it by the time the deadline roles around (which is in like less than a week). This makes me sad, especially since i was something i was actually looking forward to participating in (and for such a long time) :(.
but anyways. headcanons instead, i suppose:
(also these are not very organized so have fun with that)
while jotuns do have extremly low body temperatures, the "frost-bite" affect you see them inflict in Thor 2011 is not because of that. Instead, it is due to a residue on their skin (like poison dart frogs).
Unlike poison dart frogs, however, the residue doesn't just stay on their skin 24/7. Rather, it secretes out of their pores
When jotuns are young, it secretes automatically when they feel scared/threatened (or exhibit other strong emotions), but as they get older they learn how to control it and can do it on command (and also keep it from happening). (<- my reasoning for why loki's cloths froze and chipped away the first time but not the second)(sort of)
the blocky/chunky/heavy type architecture you see is because it is sturdy and can survive blizzards/other harsh elements
based off of what odin said in his monologue, jotunheim is "cold dark and barren," so the next few sort of are in line with that, but who know if he was actually telling the truth lol
not a lot of biodiversity (and FAR less plants than animals) :/ (i actually think it'd be cool to have a frozen planet teeming with life, but again, prev reason...)
since it's hard for plants to grow in such cold/dark places (lack of sun, dirt/nurtients, nutrient flow, liquid water, etc), the only "normal" plants you see are in the north pole (which is warmer, and is sort of a tundra type biome)(most plants typically aren't even there year-round). Everywhere else, plants have to find other ways to survive. Since photosynthesis isn't really a viable option (though there are a rare few that do!), most plants either perform chemosynthesis (x) or are parasitic (x). This also means that lots of plants are a ghostly white, rather than green (no chlorophyll).
licehen is less common than here, but can be found on occasion (and can be eaten)
mushrooms are relatively common, however (and unlike our mushrooms, can survive alright in the cold)
There isn't really any liquid water (and what little is seasonal), yet there are still life in the frozen water. There is a species of fish that produces so much warmth that the ice around them melts, and they swim through their self-made streams (that freeze back up once they've left). These fish eat snow/ice algae and ice worms (the algae and worms are actually real things in real life btw) (x) (x)
I thought it was interesting in the film how it's such a cold planet but nothing seemed to have fur, just skin... perhaps there are furred creatures, though, and they simply live in other regions. Id say the south pole, maybe the north pole, and and/or an isolated bit of land ("continent") on the opposite side of the planet. Long wooly fur. Horns. These creatures evolved to be warm on the cold, and the creatures we saw in the film simply evolved to not need to be warm at all.
the clothing you see the jotnar wear in the Thor 2011 is not their usual wear, it is their wartime/battle clothing.
This is because even though they are no longer literally warring, odin's treaty (aka sentence to slow genocide) was a "war against their people." As such, the majority of the jotnar choose to wear the wartime clothing until they all die out (as sort of a statement against odin/asgard's colonialism/imperialism)
(also probably "honor" or other culture type situation)
War clothing components:
Shaved Head: The jotnar typically grow their hair out long in times of peace, but shave it when times of war arise. In some regions, it is only those that go to battle that shave it, but in other regions all people shave it
Loincloth: made from Frost Beast leather. While frost beast hide is blue, the process to turn it into leather gives it a green tone (and is also becomes more rubbery than our leather). The sewing pattern of the loincloth itself typically is what gives it creative design, rather than having added embroidery/beading/embossing/etc.
Misc Decorations:
small decorative pieces are stuck directly to the skin via freezing water or using sticky sap-like substances. The most common places for these decorations are the head, upper chest, and shoulders. These pieces serve no protective functions, save the ones that are used to cover the nipples of jotuns with breasts (just around the nipple and areola, not the full breast).
small bracers, pauldrons, and greaves are sometimes worn.
Never shoes, pants/bottoms, shirts/tops.
Clothing should be NON besides the loincloth, and armour should be minimal and mainly decorative.
Decorative pieces are typically also made of frost beast leather. Metal is not usually used on jotunheim, because it is far to cold to melt anything (and to actually start a fire that hot would cause massive environmental damage). The only metal typically used it mercury, because it has such a low melting point (-38.829° C/-37.892° F). Interestingly, leather and mercury (and ice) are the only materials used in war clothing, not bone, even though bone is used in non-wartime clothing.
Overall Scarcity of clothing: While the jotnar don't typically get cold, they do want protection from cutting winds, ice, and snow (blizzards are strong enough that the snow can cause cuts/"burns"). As such, having such scarcity of clothing is a statement of strength/bravery and used to deter the enemy.
regular cloths cover more (to protect from the elements, not provide warmth). Leather, metal, fur, and fabric woven from wool are used. Bone and metal are also used. Typical colours would be the familiar green, dusty purple, grey/brown/black/white (fur colours), and some blue
piercings and gauging are popular, even though not always practical. Most popular places to pierce/gauge are the ears and nose.
Hair texture in the region where we visited in thor 2011 is typically smooth and silky (like lokis), but other hair textures (curly, coily) exist in different areas. All hair is typically raven-black, unless the jotun is albino (in which case, it would be white)
Unsure of:
i feel like jotuns would be carnivores, but at the same time i feel like loki would enjoy more vegetarian/pescatarian food options, so idk what to think :|
I feel like the casket of ancient winters would be taken straight from the core of the planet, and is super condensed ice and seiðr, and that's why taking it away ruined the planet
(but then that poses other questions, like why would they mine something and keep it as an artifact? were there warring tribes and they wanted to get ahead? did some foreign colonial/imperial power mine it and for their own gain and the jotuns only got it back later?)
also the other possibility is that the casket has to do with something of the passing of ancestors/powerful jotuns of the past and their seiðr or souls or smth is in it (and that would give more power to the "casket" part)
i actually i can think of a lot of things... but those are my main two for the casket
wait why are my indented bullet points not working anymore what!!! this was more neat-looking i swear
jotun breast milk does not have lactose. i will not elaborate.
ok those are all i can think of right now
(bonus loki-specific one: the reason he is so small was because his mom got stuck by lightning when she was pregnant)
