I've talked about it before, but I finally made it happen!

Meet the newest member of my family: Parzival the snail!

He is a common garden snail, and likes to spend his days sleeping and eating. He loves zuccini. And sleeping.

I love him

His home is still a WIP, so I will post pictures as I am working on it, but it is a small mini-terrarium made of glass, so it keeps the moisture

The weird pet snail issue on tiktok

So I've been seeing tiktokers getting pet snails which is fine but I'm seeing repeating issues which I'll go over that kinda bother me..

1. Getting invasive species and letting them go when they get bored or not enough likes this can be very harmful to their local eco system.

2. Getting invasive species and using the excuse of " I have to kill their eggs, runts, old snails and baby snails cause they're invasive!!" But lets bs honest I think they're really doing it for clout... I saw an account that got famous for her posting her killing snail eggs, baby snails and runt snails.... Here's my thing if you know the species is invasive maybe don't get it??? Snails can breed monthly so why get an harmful species? but I've seen so many tiktokers get just a cr✴p tone of invasive snails and pull this stuff. Its like why did you get then in the first place???

3. My biggest issue personally as an autistic person: They put the crushing of the snail eggs, runt snails, old snails and baby snails in very neurodiverse hashtags... Such as #sensory #asmr #snails #snailcore #sensorysounds #cottagecore #sensoryasmr #asmrsounds #tingles #tingletriggers and hashtags like that for many autistic people seeing critters being harmed or killed can be very triggering and why they put them in those hashtags is beyond me????

I find it disturbing that snail crushing asmr is so popular amoung snail owners..

It's just something that bothers me tbh

Like I guess you gotta handle the eggs somehow??? But why do they feel the need in not only posting about it, but also use neurodiverse hashtags and make gorish clout videos?? It just feels gross ya know??

I dug up the only pictures I could find of my old terrarium and leopard slug. her name was The Duchess of Slime. There were usually around 20 snails with her along with woodlice and other cleaning crew. She controlled the snail population by eating eggs and newborns. I eventually replaced that mesh top with a solid one, since it made humidity control super hard.
