I know Jason always calls Dick the "Golden child" and in comics tends to paint him as this unbeatable person in terms of morals/goodness in his head, which makes Jason feel inferior and not good enough..

but I think it'd be so fucking funny if instead of Jason thinking he'll never be as good as Dick, it's actually him just mocking his brother around others, because Jason 100% remembers Dick on multiple occasions offering his 12yo self weed while Bruce wasn't around, and he's the only sibling with the knowledge that Dick wasn't this "holier than thou, I make no mistakes and am perfect" child, which is why Jason keeps praising to the younger batfam members on how Dick is so perfect KNOWING that Dick was absolutely not that.

Chemicals

Telehead was the name of a factory in Oblivion that manufactured computer parts, specifically transformers. A lot of people who lived in Oblivion and the surrounding area worked there at one point in time or another, including a lot of people I knew from high school. One such person was Zack Preacher, a kid who was a year older than me.

Zack Preacher was really into drugs.

I don't recall if he had a specific preference, just that he did a lot of different types of drugs. Most of what I had heard about drugs in those days came from Preacher.

Most of the factory was a wide open area, but one of the jobs that many of us had to do sometimes involved sitting in a dark room looking at units under a black light. The transformers were coated with a chemical that gave off strong fumes, so the rooms, built in various locations along the middle of the factory floor, had been equipped with heavy ventilation systems to keep the workers from, you know, getting sick or dying.

This was during a period of time when the latest drug epidemic that everyone was talking about was crack cocaine. Preacher saw this as a challenge. He wanted to know what the big deal was. He had a friend in California who he paid to ship him some goddamn crack.

And for some reason, he decided to smoke it at work in one of those dark, heavily ventilated rooms.

I don't really know why he thought this was a good idea. He had his own apartment. I think he was smoking it with a coworker so that may have been a factor, but still.

The two of them, Preacher and his coworker, stacked trays of transformers up against the door to keep anyone from walking in on them, which--because it was a work place--did end up happening. The floor manager tried to open the door while they were actively smoking the crack, so props to them for having the foresight to make sure they had their asses covered. Between this and the heavy ventilation, they got away with it.

I wish I knew more of the story than that. Like, what the hell was it like being high on crack while at work and trying to interact with the floor manager?

Honestly, they probably got the manager to go away quickly because he was likely just checking in to make sure they weren't sleeping.

Then they sat with their hearts beating, staring at those chemical-dipped transformers glowing under the black light.

Things that have happened in the last 48 hours

Tucker Carlson fired from Fox News unceremoniously and without warning, apparently directly at the command of Rupert Murdoch. Reason isn't clear but Dominion claims with wasn't because of their recent settlement with Fox News for over $700 million. Considering all that Fox News hosts get away with saying regularly, something pretty wild has to have happened for them to suddenly fire their number one money maker and the host of the highest viewed tv program in the country, on any channel.

Don Lemon fired from CNN possibly without warning, though CNN claims they tried to meet with him. Possibly due to sexist and/or racist comments, but the reason isn't currently clear and CNN is just not wanting to talk about it

Nate Silver was laid off by Disney and ABC and is no longer part of FiveThirtyEight, which he founded.

Steven Crowder announced that he has been divorced since 2021 when his wife filed a no-fault divorce, openly bemoaned the fact that the laws of Texas allowed her to divorce him without his permission, and then publicly accused Candace Owens of trying to use his divorce to extort him for money.

Candace Owens started commenting back at him, denying the accusations of extortion and has now officially begun another far right media civil war as people are taking sides, because she took the bait. She may or may not have sent him a cease and desist and be planning to take legal action.
