Ridley: Hey, you guys ever think about your dads sometime? The only memory I have of mines was seeing him and ma get killed by hunters when I was hatched.

Ganondorf: (Eyes Widened a Bit in Surprise) Yikes.....Also......(Places his Hand onto his Chest Along With Everyone Else in the Table) You have our condolences.

Samus: (Glares Intensely at The Space Pirate With Fox Standing Next to Her) Fuck. You.

Hades: (Slowly Shakes his Head at Ridley) That woman's gonna find some way to end you permanently one of these days......

Ridley: (Throws his Hands Out While Being Paralyzed) I was JUST being honest here! (Rests his Head onto the Palm of his Hand) And it happened decades ago, she could've at least try to move on from it by now! Besides, it was better for them getting axed by me than letting some pork grind bamboozled and abandoned off in the void of space like Fox's Da- 'BLABLABLABLAST' (Suddenly Gets Hit by a Fury of Blasters on the Back) AGHH! (Quickly Turns Around Towards the Culprit) FOX!

The leader of Star Fox gives Ridley the middle finger with a glare before walking away with Samus.

Hades: You are just itching to make more enemies today, aren't ya, Ridley boy?

Ridley: (Sighs Heavily While Turning Back Around to the Table) My mouth really is a blessing and a curse, isn't it?

Ganondorf: Yep. But to answer your question, I....can't really say I've ever thought about who my bil father was at the time of my birth. All I remember is waking up in the middle of a Gerudo Valley and being raised by most of the villagers there.....I also remembered ruling that said valley with an iron gauntlet, but that's neither here and there.

Sephiroth: I too don't have any memory who my father was. And every time I do try think about him, it would always lead me to that man in the red damaged cape for....some reason.

Hades: (Groans While Rolling his Eyes in Annoyance) Don't even get me started on my old man.....The self conceited bastard was crazy enough to try and eat me whole.

Ganondorf/Ridley/Pichu: (Eyes Widened in Complete Shock) He WHAT!?/Pi!?

Sephiroth: (Eyes Widened a Bit as Well) You're kidding.

Hades: Noooope. My old man was so worried about me taking the throne of the Underworld that he ate me. Luckily, my manwhore of a brother, Zeus, stepped in and saved me before I got completely digested. Pretty scarring moment in my life to be frank....(Smirks Evilly) But it was all more the more sweeter when I rubbed my title all over his wrinkled face. (Takes Another Sip of his Drink)

Pichu: (Turns to Sephiroth With a Confused Look on his Face) Pi, Pi Pi Pichu?

Sephiroth: Uh- It's.....(Starts Rubbing the Top of Pichu's Head Gently) Best not know yet, son. Trust me.

Pichu: (Sighs a Bit While Shrugging) Pichu.

Hades: Hey, speaking of dads, has anyone else knows where Bowser and Kazuya has gone to? I haven't seen two all day today.

Ganondorf: Bowser's spending the rest of day with his kids around town. As for the devil brat, well.........

Ridley: That man seriously need to find himself a new hobby. This is getting sad at this point.

Ganondorf: Yep.

Pichu: Pi.

Sephiroth: Mmhmm.

Hades: You know I've been thinking about this for a while now, but do you guys ever wondered who's the actual mother of all those little Koopalings or whatever they call themselves.

Ganondorf: (Grabs his Chin While Thinking) Hm. Now that you've mentioned it, I've been wondering about that too.

Ridley: It's definitely Peach.

Hades: Whaaaat?

Pichu: Pichu!

Sephiroth: I don't believe you.

Ridley: Oh come on! Do you have any ideas how many times Bowser kidnaps that woman in the past?....I don't know the exact numbers, but I can tell you it's a crap ton!

Ganondorf: (Raises an Eyebrow) Where are you getting at exactly, Ridley?

Hades: You know, besides being wrong as usual.

Ridley: Look, all I'm saying here is that during some of those past eight kidnappings, Peach and Bowser may have gotten a little busy among themselves while Mario's out there going through seven plus worlds to try and save her. Kind of like the NTR kind of scenario, ya know?

Pichu was about to speak before Sephiroth stops him by patting the top of his head.

Sephiroth: That's nothing for you to worry about either, my son.

Pichu pouts while crossing his little arms together.

Hades: Oh come now, there's no way Peach would be stupid enough to have eight, separate night stands with Bowser of all people.

Ganondorf: Who, we may add, she shown distaste for on numerous occasions.

Sephiroth: Accidental and purposely.

Pichu: (Nodded in Agreement) Pi.

Ganondorf: Plus, she obviously shows love and affection towards Mario on a daily basis. Makes no sense that she would cheat on him behind his back for so long.

Ridley: ('Scoffs') Please. I bet you all that hate and distaste towards the big guy was all a facade to get us from discovering their secret love from one another. And I can guarantee you all that one of these days, she would crack and go eloping with King Daddy Koopa while leaving that loser plumber in the dust-

'SMASH'

And just like that, Ridley suddenly gets hit in the by an angry looking vegetable plant so hard enough that he falls down the ground in immense pain.

Hades: (Turns to the Knocked Out Ridley Along With Everyone Else in the Table Before Clicking his Tongue) Well, that happened.

?????: HEY!

The reminding League of Villains Members (and Pichu) turns to see a very upset Peach glaring at the table with Mario standing by her.

Peach: Keep mines and Mario's name out your FUCKING. MOUTH!

Mario: (Gently Squeezes Peach's Hand to Calm her Down) They're going to, okay? Let's go outside for a walk. It could do both of us good.

Peach: ('Sighs Heavily') Yeah...A fresh air would be great right about now.

As Peach begins walking away to recollect herself in calmness, Mario looks back at the villains' table (or...most noticeably, an unconscious Ridley) with a fierce glare as his fist begins to shake in anger until.....

Peach: (In the Background) Mario? Where are you, honey?

Mario: (Immediately Returns Vack to his Normal Before Turning Away) I-I'm coming, Peach! (Sprints Off Towards his Princess)

Hades: (Clicks his Tongue Again as He Summons a Notepad and Writes Something Down on it) Welp. Add the princess and plumber to the list of enemies. Who would've thought?

Ganondorf: You know, it's surreal hearing Peach curse like that.

Sephiroth: The woman's anger really does have no bounds.

Pichu: (Nodded in Agreement) Pi.

“In Dorothy Allison's short story "Violence Against Women Begins at Home", a group of lesbian friends gathers for a drink and they discuss a bit of community gossip: a pair of women recently broke into another woman's house and trashed it, smashing glass and dishes and destroying her art, which they deemed pornographic. They spray-painted the story's eponymous phrase on her wall. The friends debate police involvement and intragroup conflict mediation; but toward the end of the story, as they are parting ways, the problem crystallizes into a single, telling exchange:

“Look, do you think maybe we could hold a rent party for Jackie, get her some money to fix her place back up?” Paula looks impatient and starts gathering up her stuff. “Oh, I don’t think we should do that. Not while they’re still in arbitration. And anyway, we have so many important things we have to raise money for this spring--community things. “Jackie’s part of the community,” I hear myself say. “Well, of course.” Paula stands up. “We all are.” The look she gives me makes me wonder if she really believes that, but she’s gone before I can say anything else.

Queer folks fail each other too. This seems like an obvious thing to say; it is not, for example, a surprise to nonwhite queers or trans queers that intracommunity loyalty goes only so far, especially when it must confront the hegemony of the state. But even within ostensibly parallel power dynamics, the desire to save face, to present a narrative of uniform morality, can defeat every other interest. The queer community has long used the rhetoric of gender roles as a way of absolving queer women from responsibility of domestic abuse. Which is not to say that activists and academics didn’t try. When the conversation about queer domestic abuse took hold in the early 1980s, activists gave out fact sheets at conferences and festivals to dispel myths about queer abuse. (45) Scholars distributed questionnaires to get a sense of the scope of the problem. (46) Fierce debates were waged in the pages of queer periodicals.

But some lesbians tried to restrict the definition of abuse to men’s actions. Butches might abuse their femmes, but only because of their adopted masculinity. Abusers were using “male privilege.” (To borrow lesbian critic Andrea Long Chu’s phrase, they were guilty of “[smuggling patriarchy] into lesbian utopia.”) Some argued that consensual S&M was part of the problem. Women who were women did not abuse their girlfriends; proper lesbians would never do such a thing. (47) There was also the narrative that it was, simply, complicated. The burden of the pressure of straight society! Lesbians abuse each other! Many people argued that the issue needed to be handled within their own communities. Ink was spilled in the service of decentering victims, and abusers often operated with impunity. In an early lesbian domestic abuse trial, a lawyer noted the odd and unsettling detail that most of the time the jury spent behind closed doors was--contrary to what she’d been worried about--the straight jurors attempting to convince the jury’s sole lesbian member of the defendant’s guilt. When she was later questioned, the lesbian juror told the layer that she hadn’t “wanted to convict a [queer] sister,” as though the abused girlfriend was not herself a fellow queer woman.

Around and around they went, circling essential truths that no one wanted to look at directly, as if they were the sun: Women could abuse other women. Women have abused other women. And queers needed to take this seriously, because no one else would.

(47)This No True Scotsman fallacy could bend these narratives in every direction conceivable; create a kind of moving goalpost that permitted an endless warping of accountability. In a firsthand account of her abuse in Gay Community News in 1988, a survivor wrote: “I had been around lesbians since I was a teen, and although some of them had troubled relationships, I was unaware of any battering. I attached myself to the comforting myth that lesbians didn’t batter. Much later, when I was ‘out’ enough to go to gay bars in a town that was liberal enough to tolerate them, I saw that some lesbians did indeed batter. However, i thought they all were of a type--drunks, sexist butches or apolitical lesbians--so I decided that feminist lesbians don’t batter.” Activist Ann Russo put it more succinctly in her book Taking Back Our Lives: “I had found it hard to name abuse in lesbian relationships as a political issue with structural roots.”

Weekly Roundup: Dec 3, 2023

Couple days late on this week’s roundup cos I’ve been injured and busy recording but I had a minute today so here ya go.

Blah Blah:

Well, my foot still hurts but I’ve been a bit more “up and around” over the past couple days. Mostly because I had to hobble over to the post office and mail our rent check. It sucked, but it’s done now.

Other than that? We’ve honestly just been holed up in our studio and doing a lot of recording. Got a bunch of tracks in the “finish carpentry” stage of recording so hopefully the labels will have them soon and they’ll be out early next year. -

Muzak:

Elend - I’m usually pretty allergic to classical music, especially anything that falls under the general heading of “neoclassical”, but Elend popped up on shuffle after a soundtrack I was listening to and caught me in a receptive mood.

So yeah, my first impression is that this stuff sounds like Bloodborne boss fight music filtered through Cold Meat Industry style dark ambient/ death industrial and arrives at a place that kind of sounds like Gnaw Their Tongues with all the “metal” parts pulled out.

I don’t love every track I’ve listened to but the heavier, more dissonant, ones are pretty cool, especially when they’re backed by huge drums.

Skrol - Really digging a couple of the Elend tracks that had heavy drums inspired me to dig through my CDs and pull out Skrol’s “Insomnia Dei” which does a pretty similar thing with the dissonant neoclassical elements but welds them to really pounding anti-rhythms that are equal parts Swans, Neubauten, and super early Laibach.

I’ve always had a real soft spot for this album since I got it as freebie in a package I ordered from RRR ages ago… So much so that I’ve picked up multiple backup copies over the years in case I ever lose one or one becomes unplayable.

Lysergic Rites of Sadopriest - Dirgey industrialized goregrind/ noisecore that reminds me of the heaviest Mortician riffs being violently reconfigured by cEvin Key/ Chu Ishikawa. I think the guy behind this project used to be in Enemy Soil and Jesus of Nazareth, two of my all-time favorite weirdo grindcore bands.

Gored - Gored “Human” is one of the heaviest albums ever recorded. Period. Sounds like early Carcass on steroids.

My Dad is Dead - Imagine Joy Division with Big Black’s drum machine and a guitar tone that’s equal parts Husker Du and Mission of Burma and that’s pretty much what was happening with My Dad is Dead. 1987s “Peace Love and Murder” is one of my favorite things Homestead Records ever released.

Bitch Magnet - Late 80s “indie rock” (In the “Our Band Could Be Your Life” sense of the word). Think Swervedriver, Husker Du, Squirrelbait, and “Siamese Dream” era Smashing Pumpkins and you’re on the right track. Great drumming on this album.

Video Games:

Astebros - Not deep into this yet, but there's a real particular style of early 90's Sega Genesis pixel art that I'm really, really into and this game looks like it has a lot of that happening so I'll probably really dig it. -

OC Introduction - Linn the Nerdy Sheep

Linn is a shy and anxious sheep who is a huge nerd when it comes to video games. He often spends his time at arcades and tends to pull multiple all-nighters in a row when a new game comes out. Linn himself is relatively well-kept, but his bedroom is a disaster zone.

Linn is sweet, but he’s also incredibly clumsy and blind without his glasses. Combined with his tendency to ignore other’s personal space, he ends up falling over on top of people often. More often than not, that person is Niles, who Linn has a poorly hidden crush on. Linn also has a tense rivalry with Lax, who he often competes with in fighting games.
