The primary question isn't just whether to take this step, but also when and how to do so effectively.
 Considering the challenges and expenses associated with incorporating an existing business, it's essential to choose the right business structure from the outset. This doesn't mean every new enterprise should begin as a corporation. Many small businesses might operate more efficiently and securely as a sole proprietorship or family partnership. 
However, due to tax implications, particularly concerning capital gains tax, and the costs related to transitioning out of a corporate structure, reverting can be prohibitive. Hence, it's crucial for business people to anticipate future needs and determine the most appropriate long-term structure for the venture. 
For instance, if initial losses are expected, starting as a sole trader or partnership may be advantageous since owners can directly benefit from income tax relief on those losses. But, if there are significant business risks that can be effectively shielded through limited liability, then a corporate structure might be the preferred choice. In today's environment of comparatively high tax rates, many sole proprietors, partnerships, and LLPs are either transitioning to, or considering the move towards, corporate structures.

It's essential to note, though, that incorporating doesn't absolve one of any personal liabilities related to debts acquired before the incorporation process.
