Exam is on the day after, and my friend lost my textbook.
Gotta make do with print outs of notes in the last minute. I feel like I can recollect the info easier from the same material I have studied before hand and now it feels like studying something brand new. Hope this struggle of double work is worth it [04.07.2022]

My 2023 Projects
Tumblr media
Wednesday 3rd January 2024
I thought it would be cool to share some of the projects I made last year that I liked and enjoyed working on! Most of them were small projects, some were projects I built straight after I learnt a new concept and a few are discontinued (I won't finish them anytime soon)!
I really hope, which I know I will because it's natural for me at this point, to make lots of more cool projects! This year, I want to make more with other people! Coding alone is cool and all but with other people I get more inspired!
Lastly = always remember to build projects that you're interested in. Projects you will have fun working on for a while. Every single one of these projects I've made, I was interested in somehow. And I had fun!!
Anyhoo, check out the projects below~! 🙋🏾‍♀️😊🖤
Tumblr media
TumblrTextTint
Tumblr media
Basically a formatter for Tumblr posts by adding custom colours to your text! Even learnt how to make FireFox extensions so I could add it as an extension to my browser - link 1, link 2
Tumblr media
Web Odyssey
Tumblr media
I looked at old Windows GUI on Pinterest one day and decided to recreate the GUI with HTML, CSS and JavaScript! - link 1, link 2
Tumblr media
Cat Fact Generator
Tumblr media
For one of the projects I did for the #3Days1Project challenge, I created a cute cat generator. Learnt how to work with APIs and a CSS library (Pattern.css) - link 1, link 2
Tumblr media
Studyblr Valentines Gift 2023
Tumblr media
It was valentine season in the Studyblr community and I participated! I made a poem webpage for a studyblr who was learning Russian! (I don't know anything in Russian but for a couple of weeks I learnt some of the poems!) - link 1, link 2
Tumblr media
Saint Jerome Tribute Page
Tumblr media
I made a page for my favourite patron saint, Saint Jerome, for his feast day (Sept 30)! I haven't had time to complete it fully and there's no live page for it but I did make posts about it! - link 1
Tumblr media
Trigun Quote Generator
Tumblr media
Just finished the Trigun anime series at the time so I decided to make a project for it for the #3Days1Project challenge! The anime is so good, it is my 2nd favourite (JOJO comes 1st place) - link 1, link 2
Tumblr media
Froggie To-Do
Tumblr media
Just came from learning the absolute BASICS of React.js, so I wanted to test my skills so far so I made this project! Shared it on my blog and some people started using it for studying (which made me so happy!) and it became a mini open-source project because random people started adding mini features to the app! Very special project for me! - link 1, link 2, link 3

I have been on Japanese language studyblr for 4 years now and I don’t know if it’s only me but I see a decline in new blogs or old blogs don’t post anymore, do you have any recommendations for blogs? I like to feel a small sense of community and unfortunately it isn’t there anymore.
Hello! I've been getting a lot of (more than zero) questions like this lately!
I would agree that compared to when I started this blog, it feels like the engagement in Japanese langblr/studyblr is down. I think that there tends to be cycles in this as in many things, such as when people are going to school vs when they graduate and slow down the posting or stop completely. Also seasonally it changes (I hope it will pick up in the fall!). There is also a certain level of interest amongst tumblr users that varies depending on the trends (I think there might be more Korean blogs recently? maybe not?). Maybe we're just waiting for the next generation to start?
Live changes and people focus on different things, and I am probably one of the only weirdos on here who consistently focuses on Japanese language (also pics I love sharing pics) despite trying to have a real life balance. I use it as a method of studying, thus explaining my consistency.
TL;DR I went through my feed and #japanese langblr and #japanese studyblr to bring you this very incomplete list of people I follow at the moment and engage with a lot. This list is in no particular order, and contains some shameless plugs. I was trying to focus on mostly new content, blogs that post consistently, and blogs that focus on the language (vocabulary, grammar, kanji, etc.) rather than aesthetics.
My Japanese Tumblr List:
https://www.tumblr.com/warau-okami - I’ve followed this blog for ages, lots of great Japanese resources
https://www.tumblr.com/ohitoyoshi - I’ve also followed this blog for ages, more great Japanese resources
https://www.tumblr.com/inkichan - A new blog that posts lots of Japanese language related things!
https://www.tumblr.com/efurutravel - A blog that’s been around for a while and currently posts higher level articles/vocabulary
https://www.tumblr.com/scoliotaku - An avid studier who is recording their Japanese language journey to the JLPT
https://www.tumblr.com/nihongoseito - Lots of fun vocabulary lists and references!
https://www.tumblr.com/jpn-langblr - A Japanese writing practice prompt generator, but wait, there’s more! Other great Japanese references
https://www.tumblr.com/seitokaisnihongo - Shameless plug, this is the blog for the Japanese discord server I’m in
https://www.tumblr.com/howdoyoulanguage - More good Japanese references
https://www.tumblr.com/onigiriforears - Another shameless plug, for my friend, who sometimes gets busy but spends a lot of time running the discord server
https://www.tumblr.com/goodplan-ipromise - Good infographics for vocabulary divided into topics
Please feel free to add your blog or your favorite blogs for others to find!

We talk a lot about productivity on studyblr. And seeing what some people accomplish in a single day is absolutely stunning. Like damn you cooked 3 meals, cleaned, studied for 3 hours, worked for 8 hours, took a walk, made espresso, read 3 chapters, AND made a whole painting? Seeing these lists can make you feel lazy or underachieving. I promise you're not. A lot of times you just don't have small "habits" (I can't form habits for some reason so they're more like small, structured items I make a conscious effort to complete daily) that structure your day and mindset. But even if you do, remember that not everyone is 100% every day and some days, you don't do anything and that's ok! Listen to your body!
Firstly, realize that lists like the one I listed are probably exaggerated. I doubt someone can cook themselves a meal while at work and unless they're getting up at 5am, they probably don't have time to get all of that done. This is the first thing you gotta realize. Social media is full of exaggerations and lies. This includes the studyblr community. So don't fall for the expectations that you see here.
Secondly, get a schedule for yourself. Get up at a certain time, make your bed after you get up, go and wash your face. This gets your mind to transition from being asleep to doing things. Wash dishes after you use them. Hang your laundry after you finish it. Put things away after use them. Keep your shoes in the same spot and get a shower schedule going. These small things are hard at first, but get easier as they become more routine.
By doing things immediately, you don't create much clutter and your cleaning time is cut down drastically. It helps so much. Trust me.
Have relax time. I've posted this before because it's IMPORTANT. SCHEDULE YOUR BREAK AND RELAX TIME AND TREAT IT LIKE ANYTHING ELSE. IT'S NOT LESS IMPORTANT.
Find easy snacks and meals! Look at pinterest or Instagram for ideas! Egg and cheese wraps, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, salmon and mashed potatoes, etc. Especially if you work a lot like I do. The majority of my diet is "easy meals" at this point.
Make time for healthy habits. Meditation, yoga, a jog, the gym, running, swimming, reading by the creek, dancing to weird music, just get up and move and give your mind a break. You charge your phone. You need to charge yourself too.
Sleep. Please. Get a full 6-8 hours of sleep. Don't glorify sleeping small amounts. It's not a competition. I hate seeing people compare how little sleep they got, like bro that's like bragging about eating nothing but bacon and potato chips or something. Get sleep. Have a night time routine. Make sleep a sacred night time ritual even. Please. It's good for your body, your mind, your immune system, your skin, your future brain, etc. It can reduce your chances of getting in a car crash even.
Realize that life isn't a race or a competition. Life is something so short and it's meant to be enjoyed and savored. Please do something every day that makes you smile. Do something every day that makes you laugh. Do something every day that makes someone else smile. Live each day like it's the one you'll be remembered for. Spread love and kindness, especially to yourself and make sure you remind those you love that you do every chance you get. At the end of the day, you're living life, not racing in a societal race to be the most accomplished and you need a reminder about that.

Psst • I am trying to find some people who would be interested in joining a sweet little dark academia / studyblr / book club themed discord server.
We're a small (18+) community who started as a tumblr group chat before we switched over to discord. On there, we talk about all kinds of interests, support one another while studying, discuss books, and, most importantly, have a relaxing time while getting to know lovely souls from all over the world.
If this sounds right up your alley, please send me a message and I will provide you with the invitation link.
I would highly appreciate if you were to spread the word by reblogging or telling people about it. Thank you! <3

Handling Exam Stress
It's that time of the year again when the pressure is high and exams are looming. Exam stress can sometimes feel overwhelming, but fear not! I've got your back with some tried-and-true strategies to help you tackle those exams like a champ (and a super cheesy camp tone to add a dash of scarcasm while we do so!)
1️⃣ Plan Your Battle: Start by creating a well-structured study schedule that breaks down your workload into manageable chunks. Prioritize topics based on their weightage and allocate dedicated time slots for revision. A clear plan will give you direction and a sense of control, helping to alleviate stress.
2️⃣ The Power of Mindful Breaks: Remember, studying non-stop isn't sustainable or effective. Incorporate regular breaks into your study routine to give your brain some rest. Engage in activities that relax and rejuvenate you, like taking a walk, meditating, or indulging in a hobby. These breaks will help improve focus and prevent burnout.
3️⃣ Effective Study Techniques: Experiment with various study techniques to find what works best for you. Active learning methods like summarizing concepts, creating flashcards, and teaching the material to someone else can enhance retention and understanding. Mix things up to keep your study sessions engaging and productive.
4️⃣ Form a Support System: Reach out to fellow studyblr buddies or friends who are also preparing for exams. Sharing your concerns, discussing challenging topics, and exchanging study tips can create a supportive community that motivates and encourages you. Remember, you're not alone in this journey!
5️⃣ Self-Care is Key: Amidst the chaos, don't forget to prioritize self-care. Get enough sleep, eat nourishing meals, and engage in physical activities to keep your mind and body in top shape. Self-care boosts your overall well-being and equips you to handle stress more effectively.
6️⃣ Positive Mindset Matters: Cultivate a positive mindset by reframing your thoughts. Instead of dwelling on fear or self-doubt, focus on your strengths and past accomplishments. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and believe in your ability to overcome obstacles. Remember, you've got this!
7️⃣ Celebrate Small Victories: Don't forget to acknowledge and reward yourself for each milestone you achieve along the way. Treat yourself to small breaks, indulge in your favorite snack, or enjoy a leisure activity after completing a challenging task. Celebrating your progress will boost your motivation and keep you going strong.
8️⃣ Reach Out for Support: If exam stress becomes overwhelming, don't hesitate to seek support from your teachers, family, or counselors. They can provide guidance, reassurance, and practical advice to help you navigate through challenging times.
Remember, dear studyblr fam, exam stress is temporary, but your knowledge and growth are lifelong. Embrace the journey, stay focused, and trust in your abilities. You've put in the hard work, and success is within your reach. You've got this! ✨📚💪

the less good news: of the 3 assignments i was trying to finish on time, i only managed the 2 small ones :’)
anyways, my teacher is out this week, so im planning on catching up on months worth of notes rewrites/illustrations, and im gonna amputate and cauterize what i can for the online coursework im woefully behind on… if that’s not too morbid to say. providing academic failure representation in the studyblr community 🥰🥰🥰

day ten: what is the one thing you wished you could change about studyblr?
to be honest i don't really know, i haven't spent enough time here (just over a week ;-;) to properly say, but i reckon the main thing is probably just the STUDY TILL YOU DIE mentality some people give off. like yes that is great but where is the 'i support you even though you take an unconventional route'? where is the 'i think you can do it, even if no one else has. being first is hardest, and that makes you the best in your own way's? we're a community reason. but other than that this was hard because i love studyblr a lot! love you guys <33
Tumblr media
today has a bit more ✨slay✨ ykwim. its interesting picking pictures because my blog is chaos and has no theme but what i might just end up matching my notion layout (i love my notion sm) and its green and cream yup.
bonus round: things i might do to my acc for the aesthetic
✨choose a theme for now or smth revamp later girlie ✨tag and sort my posts ✨write an intro with said tags ✨just be aesthetic yass queen slay
go drink some water lovelies! have a great day/night/whatever time it is for you <33

The Sandbox Method
Something that I find really inspiring for self-learning is the Sandbox method (from this article). It essentially breaks down a flexible process for teaching yourself new skills, such as programming or music. I wanted to post this now that people might have some free time in between semesters or winter vacations. I'll put a small breakdown under the cut in case you don't want to jump to a new webpage, but I highly recommend reading through the article and seeing how it might apply to your own goals and projects.
The process of "Guess and Check":
You encounter a problem
You find a potential solution
You ask, "Did this solution work?"
If yes, you solved the problem
If no, you search for a new potential solution
Building your sandbox
You need to create some sort of environment to use as your sandbox, so that you have a space to practice the knowledge you are learning.
The characteristics of a good sandbox: - Lost cost/free: remove cost as a barrier to starting - Low-stakes: to avoid the barrier of psyching yourself out - Public: have some sort of record of your progress. Perhaps someone else will appreciate your process. This is also useful as a feedback loop
Examples
Programming: a coding environment
Writing: pen and paper, a word processor
Photography: a camera
Design: an art program and a place to post your work
For all of the examples above, you want to find somewhere to post your work.
Research
Collect knowledge and tips and put them into practice. Once you find something that you can apply, practice it within your sandbox.
It's important to take notes of the ideas you're collecting. Write down what works and what doesn't. Write what steps you are using and any thoughts you have as you're practicing. This is a step that takes place iteratively. You will learn some things, practice, and go back and learn next steps.
Examples
Books
Blogs and Websites
Online Courses
Implement and Practice
Avoid passive practicing. In the studyblr community, the most common advice is to not just reread your books or notes, since this is simply passive learning. This also applies to self-teaching.
Some other examples of passive learning: - Only reading books or watching videos and never doing something yourself. - Playing songs you already know how to play - Programming things that you've already done.
Try active practicing
Know your limits and where you need to improve
Set a goal beyond your current abilities to stretch yourself
Get feedback
Get Feedback
You will obviously not know everything when you are starting out, and this includes mistakes that can become habits. If you find a feedback loop, you can learn how to mitigate these mistakes early and implement better practices early on.
Other tips
Sometimes you will need to take a leap of faith in your abilities. Even if you fail, it's a part of learning and making progress. As long as you learn something from failing, it's still progress.
