Had a woman bring in her ferret for an exam and when I went into the room a second ferret poked its head out of her bag. In delighted surprise I exclaimed “oh you have two!” and she immediately responded “yes, I’m a small business owner”
Have to admit it took me a second

INTEREST CHECK!
I'm thinking about making some ofmd merch of my own, and came up with some cute Mermaid Stede and Kraken Ed designs. Would anyone be interested in hard enamel pins of these guys? I'll probably make stickers too!
Stede would have gold metal and maybe a glittery tail and ears! And Ed would be silver metal.
The art isn't finalized but these are the rough ideas, plus the image is a bit grainy to try and avoid art theft lol, but if enough people seem interested I'll make a post later on with any updates!

hey- wanted to know if shoplifting with small buinsnesses is okay? also, like, what constitutes a small business?
hope you have a wonderful evening!
(I tried to make you a fish but I think it turned out badly)
<°(((<
So, the thing is, people will often say stuff like, “It’s OK to shoplift from corporations, but leave small businesses alone!”
And while that seems intuitive to a lot of people because of the propaganda we’re constantly exposed to in the United States, it misses how “small businesses” actually function, which usually is actually just the capitalist tyranny writ small — or more personal.
In actual fact, the Small Business Owner™ tends to be incredibly economically reactionary as well as often socially reactionary, and most regulatory laws have carve-outs that protect them and facilitate their brand of discrimination further. Things like minimum wage laws that don’t apply to them, healthcare exceptions, etc. Then they still engage in harassment and union-busting just like occurs in every business except here there’s no HR department or anyone to appeal higher to. They are, especially in suburban and rural areas, basically just landed gentry. The “family business” of the car salesman, corner store, or restaurant can look like lots of things but usually all of them are bad for their workers.
Politicians protect this mythical creature of the SBO™ forgetting that in the real world, workers are still workers wherever they are and therefore workers at “small businesses” are often left even more vulnerable than at a giant corporation that has some fear a government inquiry or lawsuit will result in wide-ranging punishment. For the SBO™, the control over workers is often the end desired more than mere money. Plenty would rather shut their business down entirely than recognize a union.
Thus, the idea that it is OK to target corporations but somehow *immoral* to target the petty tyrants who still possess overwhelming power over the laborers who make their businesses possible is a ridiculous idea that should be rejected.
Now, it may be that certain small businesses in particular are actually run ethically in some way and don’t deserve that sort of thing, but this should not be the default assumption, and workers (and ex-workers) at those businesses are who you should be listening to, not the rich people who use their surplus value to buy influence with politicians, fight against labor, and often use cops to do it.

消えない光 -unvanishing light-
« when the magic store closes at night and the all the wizards fell asleep, the tiny dreamshades - keepers of the inner light that powers the magic - sometimes allow themselves a little pranks and play with magical devices :) but no worries, they're super responsible creatures and never do anything bad »
