20th May 2023: Magdalen Hill

Photos taken in this set here are of: 1. A Common Carpet moth, a pleasant and well coloured new moth for me to see flitting around. 2. A marvellous Marsh Fritillary which I was overjoyed to see flitting through the grass like a shining jewel. These are such mesmerising, splendidly coloured and super attractive dainty fritillaries that I always feel so honoured to see. It was amazing to see a handful of them to add the species to my butterfly year list, and it’s the first time I’ve ever seen them here being only the third place I’ve seen them after Martin Down and Bentley Wood so it was a great feeling to see them here. 3. Small Blue butterfly, a very pleasing and charming one to see as always the ones we saw also my first of the year today. 4, 5, 7, 9 and 10. Views at this lovely spot. 6. Bird’s-foot trefoil which glowed well in the sun. 8. Slow worm.

In a mega day of lepidoptera and insects generally we had some fantastic late moments on the walk seeing my first Large White and Painted Lady butterflies of the year too, two species I had hoped to see soon taking me to twenty two species seen this year. Orange Tip, Red Admiral, Peacock, more Holly Blues today, Dingy Skipper, Small Heath and Brimstone were also brilliant to see in my highest amount of butterfly species seen in a day thus far in 2023. My first Mother Shipton of the year, Silver Y and an endothenia species were other good moths to see. Broad-bodied Chaser, lace wings, hoverflies and lizard here today too were good to see. Bird wise I got cracking views of female Blackcap with it’s exquisite brown head and soaring Red Kite a good one for this reserve, with Carrion Crow seen well too. My first horseshoe vetch of the year, common vetch, kidney vetch, smashing common rock-rose, alluring oxeye daisies, forget-me-not, more ragged robin in the Winchester area this week, cow parsley, cowslips still going, periwinkle, crane’s-bill and plantain were plant highlights. It was good to see oilseed rape covered yellow fields on the way here and whilst here.

this scene. this fucking scene. when i watched this the first time it really struck me how much 14 has grown. 10 wouldn’t have let that argument go. they would’ve kept pushing buttons until one of them stormed off. but 14 stops, cuts himself off mid-sentence and walks away to take a breath.

“no,” he says. no we’re not doing this. no it’s not my fault. no it’s not your fault. it’s a shitty situation and they’re both stressed and afraid.

and then he apologizes even though he didn’t start the argument and he didn’t spill the coffee. and it was definitely donna’s fault but sometimes being best friends means you let things go and you lie a little because your friendship is more important than being right

AND THEN HE COMFORTS HER. without her asking and without her initiating it.

Tim, buddy, what do you mean you might had accidentally made a Love Child?!

Danny finds out that

1. He's a clonish 'love child' of two heroes

2. He was accidentally created during one of his donors mental break downs after losing his father and best friends (one of which was his other donor)

3. CW interfered before his creator realized what he made and pulled him out of that dimension because "it would had lead that world to true ruin if he found out at his state of mind. He's better now but it would had been the final straw for him should anything had happened to you in his care and given who he had to partner up with later... I did what I had to."

4. Due to Danny having a bad fall out with his parents after he told them about being Phantom (they didn't attack him... but they did disown him.) Danny is left adrift of what to do. He doesn't wanna bug Jazz, she's in college and dorming. Tuckers place has no room. Sam's parents would never let him stay. Vlad was a definitely a no go. And Dani (Ellie) last check in was near the Amazon rainforest.

5. Danny finds out some of his powers might not be as ghostly as he thought... it does explain the huge power boost some of his powers have compared to other ghosts.

6. He went to Clockwork... who proceeded to tell him the truth, smile his cryptic smile while saying "and now. Have fun this time around. I'll see you again in due time Daniel." Before yeeting him into a portal.

7. Danny woke up in his home dimension.... deaged to being five years old (the age he would be if he stayed and grew by now) (DC timeline is slower than DP in this)

8. He woke up apparently his creator's home city... during a Gala (Danny woke up in a garden, dazed and confused. His memories are fuzzy)... and wandered into the party... and apparently he looked like a perfect mix of his.. dads? Which catches A LOT of peoples attention.

9. Especially with Tim Drake-Wayne and Conner Kent-Luthor just announcing they're dating that very night.

10. Rumors and gossip of a random kid, who looks just like the recent happily announced couple, go flying quickly among the elite... and reaches certain ears before it gets to batfam and supers (I have a feeling they learned how to block out rumors and gossips during these events)

11. Those ears happen to be Lex Luthor and Ra's al Ghul (both who are there at the Gala just to annoy and unnerve the Bats and Supers)

12. By the time the rumors get to Tim and Conner, they find Danny almost getting taken away by one of those two.

27th May 2023-Martin Down

Pictures in this set taken today: 1. Common Blue butterfly. 2. A dashing Cinnabar moth, it was lovely to see a few of these colourful insects. 3. My first bindweed of the year. 4. Bramble flower. 5. Ragwort. 6. One the Adonis Blues we saw here this afternoon, the main butterfly species we came to try and see which was a very welcome twenty fourth addition to my year list, and it was amazing to see them. Seeing their electric flash of blue which is evocative of tropical rainforests for me sail through the air and land is a sight I never tire of, such an extraordinarily beautiful butterfly and one of my favourites. It was so good to see them in the sunshine. 7. A butterfly orchid which I was astounded to see. A rare and precious flower that I did know was at Martin Down but had never seen myself, we rather stumbled across it and I’m glad we did as it’s such a gorgeous and alluring species. One of my flower moments of the year. 8. Stunning burnt-tip orchids, the main flower I was hoping to see today a very grand and eyecatching one which I am delighted to see the group of pop up in the same spot each year. 9. Corn Bunting. Towards the end of the walk I thought how unusually for here for us these days we’d not yet seen one today and then we saw a few with some fantastic views again, what a year I’m having for this species. 10. Yellowhammer, another quintessential bunting here which I was very happy to see.

Other species of the moment for me Marsh Fritillary, Small Blue and Brown Argus as well as Grizzled Skipper, Dingy Skipper, Small Copper, Peacock, Painted Lady, Holly Blue, Small Heath and perhaps my last Orange Tip of the year were highlights as I saw my highest amount of butterfly species on one day so far this year with fifteen seen on a good day to look for butterflies. Bird wise getting so lucky again this year generally and here to see Grey Partridges flying, Red Kite, two Buzzards especially seen well and Kestrel in the bright blue sky, Chaffinches seen well including immersed nicely in the bubbling blossom at one point, Whitethroat, Rook, Magpie, Blackbird and possibly two Stock Doves, stunning views of Skylarks a key bird here too hearing them well as well and getting so lucky to hear a fluent and iconic Cuckoo again this year were key moments on the walk. Other flowers I enjoyed seeing were sainfoin the other side of the road on the way out in flower, varied coloured milkwort, Dame’s rocket, mignonette, speedwell, bird’s-foot trefoil, horseshoe vetch, kidney vetch, common rock-rose and sorrel. Among a few nice other insects seen I very much enjoyed views of bees and a green shield bug. House Sparrow, Goldfinch, Collared Dove and Starlings were nice to see at home today, with a donkey foal and Stonechats seen well in the New Forest on the way and way back.
