discrimination of slavs isnt xenophobia. its straight up racism.

there’s apparently a character in craig of the creek who is slavic and - the joke is - that he’s a dumb slav! ha ha ha! speaks about himself in third person and is a bully, which is so slavic, isn’t it? its hilarious. especially when you consider the history of slavic people, which i’ll shortly summarize here, with some quotes.

xenophobia is thinking someones national costumes are funny, or that their dish smells foul. in slav case, its different. slavs have always been racially discriminated, murdered, enslaved, and whichever history period you take, youll see it.

in fact, its so prominent that word “slave” literally comes from “Slav”. you can read about the root of the word here: American Heritage Dictionary

whatever period you take, you’ll find discrimination of slavic people. especially in nazis and fascists cases. prosecuted on the same level as jews, back then. the difference was that slavs were “too stupid and barbaric” and preys to “masonic jew machine”, and that they needed to be exterminated. here’s more text from wikipedia.

slavic people are rarely shown in media. because we are not important enough. to the west, we are some silly little people living in the balkans and arguing with each other and going to wars over silly things. the only times slavs appear in media is russian spies or other villains. which you know; slavs are a much more diverse race than just “russia”. and in fact, russia has controlled and exploited many slavic countries.

and when we ARE shown in media, its not much better. i have never seen a proper slavic representation. in literally all the cases of slavs appearing on the screen, they are illiterate, stupid, and cannot speak language.

I hate when people - mostly Americans - feel like they have the right to shit on Slavs just because we're white. (Which is not true btw, I know a lot of POC Slavs).

Yeah, some of us live in horrible conditions without running water and bathroom in the house. Why? Because even now no one bothers to help them.

Yeah, many Slavs are uneducated because they didn't have the opportunity to get proper education.

But we're not primitive subhumans as many treat us. We're not inferior.

This is the sentiment that lead to the Japanese internment camps which everyone agrees were wrong, but I know people would cheer for Russian ones. There's a LOT of Russia-bashing, believe it or not.

Tell me again how being Russian automatically makes you a bad person and how civilians aren't victims just because they are living in a corrupt country. You judge the entire population based on what fringe nationalists and some brainwashed people say. Blanket statements about an entire nationality or race are NOT okay. As a bonus, let's talk about how America and Canada (my country) used to HATE UKRAINE, and they had Ukrainian internment camps.

While I do understand why Dracula is a very famous book and very influential in modern depictions of vampires and pop culture in general, I don’t want people to ignore the offensive caricatures of Slavic people present in the book nor how the character of Dracula is heavily coded with offensive stereotypes of Jewish, Roma and Slavic people especially with how the discrimination of the latter two is rarely if ever discussed so please bare that in mind while reading it

I have found multiple good or more positive portrayals of Slavs that I can tell you in another post but I just wanted to get this off my chest. AYAOTD is specifically bad because this can easily make children discriminate against Eastern Europeans. In that episode, it's not like "they're evil demons/witches who happen to be Ukrainian" it's almost like "we do that in Ukraine, that's normal". They even say themselves they're from Ukraine. Yeaaaaahhhh.

i havent seen good/positive portrayals anywhere. all ive seen has been very negative usually, or even if theyre positive characters (like in casa de papel, where there was a serbian guy who was great) theyre still portrayed as not speaking english (spanish) and being basal or dumb.

And no, it's not "payback" for what my ancestors did (actually they did nothing. Historically, Slavs have nothing to do with slavery I mean they do cuz slavs were the first slaves ever but yk what I mean) it's just slavophobia and sense of entitlement.

Like bro, why when I spoke up about my issues, oppression and discrimination as a slav on tiktok, people (like I said, mostly POC) had to run to my comments, call me race-related insults, tell me that my culture is boring and not even worth of appropriation or that my traditional food is disgusting or that slavs are not capable of understanding "real oppression" or that we never been oppressed. Why? Because we're white (which is not true, I know many POC slavs)

Also I'm not saying that all POC are like this or that I don't experience Slavophobia from white people
