Hi! I'm getting back into drawing after graduating college and I was thinking about my 2013 Wacom tablet from when I was a teenager. She's served me well but I was looking at other options and I saw you gushing about screen tablets. I was wondering what screen tablet you have? Sorry if you already answered this. Thank you for your time and amazing art!

that's actually a good idea I should list my stuff somewhere lol, so from late 2018-early 2020 I used a huion kamvas pro 13 and photoshop which I liked a lot but it had me chained to my desk.

At the end of 2019 I bought an ipad pro and started to learn procreate with the intention of being able to draw in cafes and other places since I used to do that with my sketchbook, but then The Plague happened so only got to do that for a few months.

However I was still sick of paying for photoshop/dealing with finding reliable updated rips so I swapped fully to using procreate on my ipad since I was still able to move around the house better with it. I then got a sketchboard pro to put the ipad into to increase the surface area and its worked out great.

Only gripes with the ipad/procreate is I need to charge it pretty often (but it forces me to take breaks since ongoing injuries, so silver lining), a more limited toolset than photoshop, and limited layers based on the RAM of the ipad on larger canvases. I would still recommend it just for ease of use and portability tho if you have the cash to drop

Project Development 1: (Journey through the digital media)

After Completing the weekly projects, I chose the second week project for the further development. First, I was planned to make a motion graphics video to present the different stages of our media timeline. When I presented my idea Ian gave feedback that I have to add more to engage or do something different for the making the audience to interact with that.

I have already created the scenes and the sketch for the video. I began to think what should I do and finally I decided to make some VR or AR artefact to my project. In my tutorial session Xinge also gave more possible Idea to create more engaging to audience.

So, I borrowed a VR headset from our university loan store. But the attempt was failed because my laptop doesn’t support the VR headset. Then I changed my plan to do AR artefact.

After scanning the QR code, it will redirect to the app Aero Viewer, and we can see the output as shown below.

While comparing my weekly project I created different scenes to develop the idea as a motion graphics video.

I created a rough sketch for the scenes.

Then I sketched each scene in ‘Sketchbook’ App.

I was impressed by the art works who was created by Arosh Thevadathil, Known as Doodle Muni. Which I have already mentioned in my weekly project blog. His art work have unique style of drawing and that way of approach was so influenced me to make scenes.

While I went to London, I saw the Butterfly trail in Tottenham court road. That artefact impressed me and influenced a lot to create my own work model.

I used After effects for adding some motions to the scene.

I used Adobe Premiere Pro for joining these clips and added some background music for that.

For the AR part I used Adobe Aero to create the AR elements. I downloaded some 3d models and created a scene. I added Newspaper, Radio, Old TV, Computer, Mobile Phone and VR headset into scene and arranged in an order.

This Project took almost 2 to 3 weeks to complete. I spent more time to resolve the issue with VR headset and but after finding the reason that my laptop doesn’t support the VR headset I chose the AR for immersive experience for the audience.

The other challenges I faced was the software Adobe aero was not stable in Windows and android phones. Maybe it is because of the developing stage of the software. But I managed to take output in my friend’s iPhone and it was perfect Output.

I am happy to say that I have learnt new skills like AR and some basics in After Effects. While I am focusing my career as Graphic designer-cum-motion graphic artist these skills will be more helpful to me as I can do some advanced level communication to the audience by applying some immersive experience to them.

I have just realised that it's new year's eve.

Well, staying up past midnight is easy for me as my sleep scedule's a bit of a wreck. I don't have anything that I'm really thrilled about for 2024 (apart from deltarune chapter 3 and 4 possibly coming out that year) and I'm ending on a really lame year art wise as I still don't have my computer and I don't want to have to reinstall drivers and stuff. At least I have the excuse to make the 2024 drawings folder on my backup USB.

I like having things in chronological order.

Anyway, here's the first and last drawings from each year because why not.

2019:

This one only dates back to the 20th July as this was before I took art seriously as a hobby. I drew this in MS paint for a roblox game I was making.

This dates back to the 25th December and I drew this in ibis paint x on my dad's old phone that me and my brothers shared. To play music in the background, I would have youtube as a window at the top and listen to the same 5 songs on loop. This took a considerable amount of time for some reason.

2020:

This dates back to the 18th January and I drew this on my phone as I just got it at this point (the same phone that I still have currently). I had no idea what I was doing and it shows.

This dates back to the 29th December and it seems like I've discovered undertale. This was when I started using my crappy laptop again and I drew this with the touchscreen it had (it was one of those hybrid laptop-tablet things) with my finger and autodesk sketchbook.

2021:

The first one is technically the first of 2021 as it dates back to the 16th of January, but I've posted that one a lot whenever I redraw it every year so here's the drawing I drew the day after. It was for an animation meme but I saved it into the folder anyway for some reason.

I was trying to model in blender for the first time towards the end of 2021 so the last picture is a boring sketch of anatomy from the 31st December to be used as refrence. The last actual artwork was a day before and at this point I had a little drawing tablet and was posting art on Newgrounds. I also started using medibang paint pro as autodesk sketchbook stopped working.

2022:

The first drawing I have in my 2022 folder was technically from 10:30 PM on the 31st as I got impatient, but I put it here anyway. It's a gif but I made it into a png so I can put it on a tumblr post. Technically the first one was this drawing I made about 12 hours later on the 1st January. On newgrounds it's regarded as being in 2021 as it's in EST and my time zone is a couple hours ahead.

The last drawing I have dates back to the 27th December where I was experimenting with art styles as I had just gotten a new idea for a game (what is now known as Roboska LV).

2023:

Both of these date back to the 1st January however the seccond one was exported 40 minuites later according to the meta data. The first one is another redraw while the seccond one is a character profile and I just realised there's no shading on the hoodie.

This dates back to the 9th December and I haven't been able to draw anything digitally since my computer's botched surgery on the 16th. I have drawn some stuff in my notebook though, so here's the "final" drawings of 2023 (basically anything in my notebook since the 9th). The dates are in the bottom corners. I didn't bother with fixing the lighting.

I drew that picture of Kokichi Oma in the dark with only the light of my phone torch as I drew it while a film was playing in my school sports hall with dominos pizza. The last 2 I drew on the last day of school while completly ignoring everyone partying in the form room.

I got a book on how to draw in a manga art style so this is me trying to figure out how to adapt the tips into my artstyle to make it not suck.

Looking back, I don't think my change in art style from 2023 is as stark as the other years. I don't like how my art keeps changing and I want to just keep it at a consistent "very very good" and leave it at that as the little changes annoy me as I like consistency.

In terms of actual new year stuff, I'll probably just rewatch "who framed roger rabbit?" and go downstairs when it's near midnight to watch the fireworks on TV.

Something I found hiding in a sketchbook! Again with those Prismacolor pencils. I stopped using them after this year because I actually did not like them! You'll notice that this looks a lot like the 2005 wolf, just better anatomy. I realized that 2005 was kind of my last year for full body drawings and also the last year that I put a lot of effort into my art with creating entire scenes. I ended up ditching that and doing just tons of headshots because they were just faster and less work. It took me many years to break myself of doing only headshots as the bulk of what I produced.

Also again with the whole feeling like hyper realism was something I HAD to do. I felt trapped in that cycle where I had to do ONLY traditional art, ONLY hyper realism, and ONLY use big fancy brands of supplies because that's what people demanded from popular artists at the time. By this point in my art journey, I stopped doing things because I enjoyed them and all I cared about was what other people thought of my illustrations. That's a super toxic mindset to get trapped in 💔 My life through teenage years and most of my 20s was also depressing and toxic but we dont need to get into those details. I bring it up because your personal life DOES affect the quality of your work!

This is also another example of expensive art supplies will not automatically make you some pro-level artist. Its VERY clear that I used very basic coloring techniques on this, the sketch itself was sloppy, and it was just thrown together with no real effort. It holds better anatomy than just a few years before it, but it was still extremely low quality. Its actually depressing to look back at old art and be able to see where it all derailed for me. Art was no longer fun. It became an OCD "chore" for me where I was constantly pushing myself saying "this is not good enough" instead of allowing natural growth to happen. I had bigger growth from 2001 to 2004 than I have from 2004 to about 2018!

What you have going on in your head matters more than you think. I should have taken a break and sorted out my real life issues at the time. Instead, I chose the unhealthy route of ignoring them thinking that if I just ignored it, the problems would go away. They did not go away. They only got worse and turned into a decade long derailment. This is the part where I remind you PLEASE CARE ABOUT THE KIND OF COMPANIONS YOU KEEP. Not everybody is your friend for the right reasons. If your friends cant be supportive of you emotionally during tough times and all they have to say is negative things such as blaming you for being in a toxic, abusive relationship, they're not your friends. If all they say is negative toxic things blaming you for the way your toxic family treats you, they are not your friends. Be aware of red flags. Have a support group of close friends. Have people who you can trust to talk about whats going on AND take a break from projects until you have that sorted out! THERE IS NO SHAME IN TAKING A MENTAL HEALTH BREAK!

Don't be stupid and push yourself to keep faking it. My biggest regret with my art is doing that. I pretended for years that I was fine, everything was fine, that I was happy. I had a lot of close friends at the time try to tell me that things were falling apart, but I didnt want to believe it. Young adulthood is hard. A lot of things can happen as you're trying to figure out what to do with your life. The one thing that WAS my fault was neglecting myself AND neglecting my projects. I cannot begin to tell you how many things have gone neglected since 2005 and its truly heartbreaking to face that now in the 2020s. Part of fixing that is publicly admitting these failures. The next step in fixing that is picking up the pieces of a broken past and now having supportive friends and a supportive partner. My art no longer has to suffer and my quality when I am happy is a complete 180 of this hot mess. Its hard to admit that my quality has sucked for so long, but its true!

Your progress and growth in art will stop if you are constantly stressed. You will always be burnt out. The more you create during burnout, the more angry and frustrated you will become. Social media always demands (the machine of it, not the people using it) that you CONSTANTLY post and will make you feel like a failure if you do not have daily content or even hourly content. Go hang out with friends and family. Go on vacations. Go play videogames. Go outside! You dont need the internet 24-7. It will be here when you get back. Take👏mental👏health👏breaks👏. You are not a machine. You have needs. Stop ignoring them. Its so easy to get trapped in this endless loop and its very hard to get out of it 🧡
