Alright I'm here with sk8 the infinity Farsi dub fam
It's been like a month that it has been out and the dub studio is not the best we have. But since the news about English dub and stuff hasn't been the best either i thought I'd cleansing things a bit
The lines are pretty much the same, except:
In 1:03 Reki called Langa's board his "kid" (bacham) which i thought really suits him :")
Ad*m is creepy no matter what language or dub it is and when in 1:17 he wants to touch Langa's leg he said "It's ok if i touch, right?" And then Reki went "dude hit the pause button..." LOL
In the famous 1:31 scene when Cherry approaches Joe he goes "You're GOOD at it, huh😏" which made me losing it
As u can see in 1:33 Ad*m calls Langa "azizam" which means my dear/my darling and unfortunately he says it in Farsi version A LOT.
And the most heartbreaking one so far is in 1:47 that teen Ainouske tells Kaoru "you are special to me" unlike the sub, which was "you guys are special to me"
And in 2:00 Langa says that he hadn't known that Reki was this "aziz" (dear/precious) to him before losing him :")
I just binged sk8 the infinity both sub and dub because I heard the dub was iconic (tm). And it is, don't get me wrong.
... when it comes to the comedic moments of it all.
I was a bit disappointed when I got to episode 7 through 10 and the translation of the fight/sad hours for the boys.
Although the worst moment for me, was the conversation between Miya and Joe in episode 11. Miya ask why Joe is so happy when they both know the race between Adam and Reki is going to end badly and in the dub he answer: "it's natural dude, Reki is going to get his ass kicked." In the sub he says:" it's because of the fact that Reki came back, of course". Why would Joe be amused at the idea that Adam could destroy a teenager ? Where is the idea that this is reassurance for Miya who was worried Reki wasn't coming back ? What the fuck happened here ?
I would still recommend it because it is hilarious but watch the sub too to get the full picture.
“There’s no way I’d quit skateboarding” or whatever Langa says in English dub is so ahhh but Reki’s REACTION makes me feel like Langa was saying so much more. That he’d never leave Reki.
Y'all can keep complaining about the lack of queer representation in anime, and the fact that when there is, it's usually censored. I mean, it breaks my heart to see that in 2022, a certain studio felt the need to cover up a kiss scene with a very convenient shot of a sword (Requiem of the Rose King, I'm looking at you!) Hell, I'm all for demanding more from these studios. It took us a while to get to Yuri On Ice where we had a gay relationship at the forefront (which, might I add, also had a kiss scene that was censored, a choice made outside of the creator's hands), and only about 5 years ago did Bloom Into You get adapted, plus Given shortly after that. Yeah, it's taken way too long for progressive anime to enter the limelight. Sure, there are a few wonderful queer series out there today (ex. Stranger by the Shore & Sasaki and Miyano) but when another series takes a step back from where we are, it's disappointing to say the least. That doesn't mean we should give up hope though. I believe it's important that we're grateful for what we have, and remember that anime won't always spell it out for us (cough cough SK8: the Infinity cough cough), and that's something we're unfortunately going to have to live with. Have hope, my friends. And if you're looking for a pick me up, a David Wald dub is always the way to go!
there are few dubs that are as perfectly cast all across the board as sk8, but i can’t state enough how much i love reki’s dub voice. it’s so warm and kind and so reki, it feels like being wrapped up in a hug every time he speaks
Hating on dubs in the recent anime era is so silly. The voice actors dubbing anime right now are almost all (obligatory sidebar to say fuck Vic Mignogna) awesome, and some recent dubs are SO good. Haikyuu!! dub? Hilarious. Sk8 dub?? INcredible 15/10. YOI dub? Absolute masterpiece, Extremely quotable. Actually now that I consider it I can’t think of a single recent-ish anime with a dub I didn’t enjoy.
Rewatching sk8 since there was news of a new season, and hear me out - it's like reverse Scott Pilgrim. Instead of a dude having to fight seven evil exes, you've got six people who all have to fight one guy's evil ex.
