And then I have one but idk which marauder to make it for so I’ll let you pick whoever you think it fits better. I have to take medicine for my OCD and anxiety but it’s embarrassing. So I’m like imagining who you pick staying the night with the reader and her skipping her medicine because she’s embarrassed but being off medicine messes you up. So clearly the reader would be alittle down and out of it so her friend asks her if she’s okay and if she took her medicine. Welllllll the marauder hears that and later that night when they are getting ready for bed he simply hands her a glass and asks her to take her medicine please and mentions how he wants all of her that includes the quirks, need for medicine, and need for comfort sometimes too.
I decided to make this part of the Sirius x Remus' roommate saga, hope that's alright! Thanks for requesting sweetheart <3

Sirius Black x fem!reader ♡ 1.5k words
Apparently, even when Sirius gets you out of your flat for the weekend, Remus is still always in the middle of things.
“I can’t believe you got him to watch New Girl,” Remus complains over speakerphone as you make yourself a cup of tea. Sirius had offered to do it for you, but you’d brushed him off, and he’d been too busy secretly delighting in how comfortable you are in his flat to argue further. “James and I have been trying to get him to watch the first episode for years.”
“Mmm, you’ve got to start on season three to get people interested, then go back,” you tell him wisely. “I showed him my favorite episode, the one with…uh…”
You trail off, and Sirius looks at you over the top of the couch. There’s a dissatisfied pinch between your brows.
“The one with the spider?” Remus prompts knowingly.
“Right.” You blink a couple of times, refocusing on your mug as you pour hot water in over the teabag. “That one.”
“Well, the apartment is quiet without you, but I’m glad you’re having fun.”
Sirius’ mouth curls as he waits for your response. Though he sometimes still gets jealous of the easy intimacy between you as roommates, he’s come to enjoy the entertainment value of your banter with Remus. The apartment’s just as quiet with me, you’ll say, or You don’t even want to know what kind of fun we’re having.
But your gaze has gone distant, and after a few seconds, the reply doesn’t seem like it’s going to come.
Sirius feels worry snake around his ribcage, a light but noticeable pressure. A few hours ago, you’d complained of a headache, and ever since then you’ve seemed in an odd headspace. You’re quieter than you’ve ever been around him, you claimed not to feel like lunch, and he’s caught you stumbling or losing track of your thoughts on more than a couple occaisions. He’d asked once if you’d wanted to go home, but you’d promised you were fine and Sirius didn’t want to push the issue. He loves having you here, he really does, but he hopes it’s nothing about being in his home that’s making you seem so…off. He’d compromised by suggesting you show him that show you’re always referencing (Remus and James were right, it actually is pretty good) in the hopes that a few hours of relaxation would help restore you to yourself, but you don’t seem to be feeling better.
Even over the phone, Remus picks up on it too. “You alright?”
“Mm?” You blink. “Oh, yeah.” There’s a forced cheer to your voice, and Sirius watches as you roll your shoulders as if bracing yourself. “I’m just a little tired, I guess.”
Remus hums, the sound crackling through the speaker. “Did you take your medicine last night?”
You take him off speaker. Sirius turns when your eyes dart towards where he’s sitting on the couch, taking the coward’s way out on instinct and pretending he wasn’t paying attention.
“I’m fine,” you say quietly into the phone. Sirius can’t hear Remus well enough anymore to make out his response, but he recognizes the slow, coaxing inflection of his friend’s voice. Your own tone sharpens in contrast, though you sound heartbreakingly exhausted. “I’ve got it. Yep, thanks. See you tomorrow.”
You blow on your tea as you join Sirius on the couch, not a trace of apprehension about you. He extends his arm invitingly, and you slot underneath it like it’s home.
“I gather you two aren’t used to time apart,” he teases, trying to entice a smile from you.
It works, albeit only slightly. The curve of your lips is minute, but he’ll take it. “We’re both homebodies,” you say simply. “We’ve grown too used to being around each other.”
“His privilege and your curse,” Sirius laments, exaggerating his grunt when you elbow him in the ribs. “Fine, you’re both very lucky. I’m just glad I managed to snag you for one weekend.” When he aims a saccharine smile your way, he suspects you set your cheek on his shoulder as a ploy to hide your blush. It melts him regardless, like ice cream in the summertime. “Want to watch another episode, lovely girl?”
He frowns when all that gets out of you is a hum, rubbing your bicep as he presses play.
He manages to get some dinner into you by insisting you try takeaway from his favorite Thai place in the neighborhood, and you seem amenable to the idea of an early night, all but drooping over the sink as you brush your teeth.
Sirius will never admit it, but his heart is pounding as he takes a glass down from above the kitchen sink, filling it with water. He hopes this isn’t a massive overreach. This thing between you is still relatively new, and the last thing he wants is to make your first stay at his place awkward for either of you, but he cares about you. From what Sirius can tell, you’ve withdrawn into what seems like an unhappy place inside your head, and he can’t just leave you there by yourself.
He catches you just as you’re leaving the bathroom, passing you the glass of water as casually as he can, as if it's the most routine thing in the world, before taking your place at the sink. “Don’t forget your medicine,” he says softly, taking his toothbrush from beside yours in the cup.
For a moment, you’re quiet. Sirius squirts toothpaste onto his brush, trying his damndest not to look for your reaction in the mirror.
“You heard Remus on the phone.” It’s almost a whisper. Nowhere close to a question.
“I didn’t mean to,” Sirius apologizes, glancing up at your reflection. You’re looking distant again, your gaze fixed somewhere to the left of his face. “I’m sorry if I heard something you didn’t want me to, but it’s…did you forget?”
You take another long moment to reply. Sirius is careful to stay quiet, giving you space as you chew your lip, but when your eyes meet his in the mirror you look so crestfallen his heart nearly stops. “I didn’t forget,” you admit. “It’s just so embarrassing, I didn’t want you to know.”
He can’t stay still anymore. His toothpaste drops with a wet smack into the bowl of the sink when he sets his toothbrush on the rim, and he’s got your hands in his in a second. “Sweetheart, what do you mean?” He keeps ahold of one of your hands, letting his other one coast up your arm to your shoulder, where his thumb massages your collarbone familiarly. “It’s not embarrassing. It’s just, it’s something you need to be yourself. Like…my sparkly doc martens, you know? Or Remus’ chocolate hoards.”
Your laugh is brief, more a huffed exhale than anything, but Sirius grins at you nonetheless. His hand moves up to cup the back of your neck, thumb soothing over the edge of your jaw.
“You know what I really like about you?” he asks. You don’t look inclined to answer, but your left brow flicks up as if to say Go on. “Everything.”
You scoff, seeming lighter even as you pull away from grasp. “Shut up.”
“No, really,” he insists, vying for your hand back. “Getting to know you, it’s been amazing. Every new thing I learn is just something more to like.” You finally stop fighting him, eyes wary as he grips you by the shoulders, keeping you in place. “I want to learn everything there is to know about you, whenever you’ll let me. And I know I can’t expect it all at once,” he says, voice dropping into a more sincere register, “but I want all of it, including the parts you think—wrongly, I might add—are embarrassing.” He gives your upper arms a light squeeze. “Got that, pretty girl?”
A light blush colors your cheeks, and Sirius grins. You’re getting harder to fluster these days, but he delights in making it happen whenever he can. “Okay,” you say, still a tad sheepish for his liking. He plants a kiss on your cheek.
“Good. Now go get your meds. I don’t want you passing out during breakfast tomorrow because of withdrawal.”
“That’s not how it works,” you snipe, but he hears the rattle of pills as you dig through your overnight bag.
“Whatever,” he says breezily, picking up his toothbrush to put a new dollop of paste onto it. “I just can’t reckon with the idea that Remus still knows things about you I don’t. Shouldn’t I outrank him by now?”
“You’ve had roommates,” you tell him, coming back into the bathroom with the glass of water half empty. “You’re really going to tell me that they don’t know more about you than I do right now?”
Sirius makes a noncommittal, muffled sound, pointing to his toothpaste-filled mouth as excuse not to answer.
“Right,” you say drily. “Maybe we should call your pal Remus and see if he happens to recall.”
Sirius has never spit so fast in his life.

The Great Hall is thrumming with activity as the anticipation of the new school year sets in.
Sunlight pours through the windows, casting a warm, golden hue onto the tables and cold walls. The clinking of cutlery melds with the lively chatter and bursts of laughter that permeate the hall. Students eagerly catch up with their friends after the summer break, their faces illuminated with excitement and anticipation for the year ahead.
"I don’t know if I’m quite ready for this year." You admit softly. Lily, seated to your left, casts a surprised glance in your direction. Your tone carries a hint of nervousness, a stark difference from your usual excitement for the new school year.
As seventh year begins, the reality of it all felt surreal, almost as if time had slipped through your fingers without warning. Contemplating life beyond Hogwarts seemed daunting, a foggy landscape you weren't quite prepared to navigate. The thought of a future without the familiar halls and comforting routines left you feeling unsettled. Questions about your path post-Hogwarts lingered causing anxiety to tighten in your stomach. The uncertainty of what lay ahead, and where your friendships would stand in the grand scheme of things, clouded your mind.
"Because this is the year you find your soulmate?" Marlene's question hung in the air, causing your stomach to sink even further.
Soulmates were tethered by a thread, an intangible connection that tightens with proximity, drawing them closer by an irresistible pull. As their 18th birthday approached, the magnetic pull between soulmates intensified, drawing them closer together in an undeniable bond.
Even in their younger years, soulmates could sense the faint tug of their connection, though it often was difficult to discern between fleeting infatuation and the unbreakable bond between soulmates. However, as the milestone birthday drew nearer, the pull became unmistakable, a magnetic force guiding them to their soulmate.
At least, that's what you've heard from those who have experienced it firsthand.
“I don’t know if I’m ready for that.” You confirm, and Lily sends you an understanding look. Neither of you had found your soulmates, while Marlene had found her soulmate in Dorcas.
The timing of finding one's soulmate varied greatly from person to person. Some discovered theirs early on in life, while others didn't find theirs until mere days before their 18th birthday. It all depended on the person and how open they were to the connection.
"We'll be going through it together." Lily says, her smile soft as she bumped her shoulder against yours. It did offer some comfort. Lily Evans had been your best friend since first year, and the thought of her being by your side made the upcoming year feel a bit more bearable.
"What if James is your soulmate?" You ask, your tone laced with playful teasing. However, Lily's hopeful expression catches you off guard, prompting you to shift your gaze towards Marlene in shock. Across the table, Marlene and Dorcas appear just as taken aback by Lily's unexpected reaction. It's a stark contrast from the adamant denials she would have offered last year.
"Maybe he is." Lily says quietly, her tone nonchalant as she offers a simple shrug, as if what she just said isn't a big deal.
“Are you..When did this happen?” Dorcas asks, and you and Marlene eye Lily curiously.
Since the moment you met him, Lily had been skillfully evading James's advances, urging him to seek out his true soulmate rather than pursuing her. Despite Lily's dismissals, James remained steadfast in his belief that she was the one destined for him. Deep down, you sensed a potential soulmate connection between them, but you never brought up the subject with Lily, knowing she would vehemently deny the idea.
Lily looks up with feigned innocence, “What?”
Marlene sighs, “Lily Evans, don’t you dare play dumb. When did your feelings towards James change?”
"I don’t know. Over the summer, I guess, I realized I’ve been a bit unfair to him," She sighs. "He’s been nothing but kind, and I’ve just blown him off. And honestly, he was on my mind most of the summer."
"Merlin, we've barely been here for two hours, and the soulmate bonds are already starting." Marlene grins, amused.
"I didn't say I thought he was mine!" Lily cries out.
"You said maybe. That heavily implies that you do." You chuckle at the panicked look on Lily’s face, fully aware that she's going to be teased about this relentlessly.
"Have you felt a pull with him?" Dorcas asks, and Lily's cheeks flush with a delicate shade of pink.
“I mean, yes. But couldn’t that just be the annoyance I feel towards him half the time?” Lily asks.
"With that logic, you and Sirius are soulmates." Marlene interjects, her grin mischievous as she takes a sip of her tea, her gaze fixed on you over the brim of her mug. Your expression sours at the mere mention of his name, a subtle shift in mood palpable in the air.
“There is no way that Sirius Black is my soulmate.” You snark, the mere thought of Sirius causing your stomach to knot with intense emotion. Hatred, you conclude.
It's the mere mention of Sirius Black that tends to stir up the worst in you. His name alone triggers a cascade of emotions within you, igniting a visceral reaction that you struggle to contain. Just the thought of him is enough to set your nerves on edge, reminding you of past conflicts and tensions that still linger beneath the surface.
It's not as though you hadn't attempted to be friendly with Sirius. Shortly after your arrival at Hogwarts, James Potter had introduced himself to you and Lily in the Gryffindor common room. He was accompanied by Remus, and while James eagerly engaged Lily in conversation, you found yourself drawn to Remus, the two of you hitting it off. You chatted for what felt like hours, so engrossed in your conversation that you barely noticed Sirius and Peter entering the common room.
However, the moment your eyes landed on Sirius, it felt as though the air had been knocked out of your lungs. For a brief second you had wondered if he was your soulmate. Everything blurred into a hazy backdrop, your eyes unable to part from his figure.
Remus didn’t miss the way you seemed to drift away from the conversation, your gaze fixed on Sirius as he made his way over to where you all were seated. You and Remus occupied the couch, while Lily and James were comfortable in their own armchairs. Sirius and Peter hovered nearby, a curious expression etched across their features, clearly unsure who the two unfamiliar girls engaged in conversation with their friends were.
Remus had introduced you while James and Lily remained preoccupied, not yet noticing the two boys, "Mates, this is Y/n," Remus had said, his warm smile welcoming.
Peter had been friendly and eager, extending his hand with enthusiasm as he shared a bit about himself. But Sirius remained silent, his expression etched with a subtle frown. When you attempted to engage him in conversation, he responded with curt one-word answers, leaving you feeling increasingly self-conscious, questioning what you might have done wrong.
Remus had assured you that Sirius wasn't usually like that, and he promised that the next time you saw him, he would likely be more talkative and outgoing. You clung to hope, eagerly anticipating a change in Sirius' demeanor, only to be met with disappointment when his behavior remained unchanged. In the company of others, he exuded friendliness, cracking jokes and radiating outgoing energy.
Yet, when his attention turned to you, he completely shifted, hardly communicating and barely sparing you a glance.
You couldn't figure out what you might have done wrong. From the moment you met Sirius, you had been nothing but friendly, offering a warm smile and introducing yourself with genuine enthusiasm. Lily, who shared many similarities with you, greeted Sirius in much the same manner, yet he responded to her without hesitation. It left you wondering: what had been so different about your interaction with him?
Over time, frustration crept in, and you found yourself growing increasingly sarcastic or curt in your interactions with him. Before long, your relationship devolved into incessant bickering and exchanging snide comments.
Any inkling that Sirius might be your soulmate was swiftly forgotten.
"Oi! Princess! You talking about me over there?" Sirius' voice cuts through the chatter, drawing your attention to the Marauders down the table. His cocky smirk meets your gaze, and for a fleeting moment, you wonder if he overheard your conversation. But he's too far away to have eavesdropped, yet close enough to call out to you, and his voice effortlessly grabs the attention of quite a few other students at the Gryffindor table.
The students in your year hardly flinch, accustomed to the heated banter that often erupted between you and Sirius. Observing the familiar fighting between you and Sirius was almost expected; it wouldn't have felt like the first day of school without it for some of the students.
“Not everything revolves around you, Black.” You retort, rolling your eyes at his arrogance. Anger begins to simmer within you, heat radiating through your body as frustration builds.
You assume he must have just noticed you, considering you've been had a peaceful morning so far. But little did you know, Sirius had fixed his gaze on you the moment he entered the hall, and he's been eager to get under your skin. Anything to capture your attention.
Sirius, undeterred, flashes a grin that seems to stretch from ear to ear. “So mean already. Didn’t you miss me? The months without you were unbearable.” He calls, his tone dripping with amusement, clearly deriving great enjoyment from riling you up.
“Do you really think I spend my free time thinking about you?” You're sending him an irritated frown, but your eyes are lit up with a fire that's reserved only for him. It's the same look you get every time the two of you fight, and he loves it.
"I think you do, princess. I think I drive you crazy.” He declares with that smug grin plastered on his face, igniting a burning sensation in your stomach.
You remain silent, too consumed by anger to muster a response. His words strike a chord because, deep down, you know he's right. He has a way of driving you to the brink of frustration. You have wracked your brain, relentlessly trying to decipher why he harbors such animosity towards you and where you might have gone wrong with him.
You're momentarily caught off guard, your mind racing to come up with a response that doesn't betray your irritation, much less let Sirius think he's gotten to you. Fortunately, Remus swiftly engages him in conversation, likely sensing the tension brewing on your face.
"I'm telling you, there's a connection there." Marlene insists, and you shoot her a glare, prompting a laugh to escape her lips.
.·。.·゜✭·.·✫·゜·。.
The initial night back at Hogwarts always proved the most challenging for you. It took a few nights before you could finally settle into the unfamiliar bed and drift off to sleep without difficulty. The weight of it being your final year lingered heavily in your mind, along with the daunting task of uncovering your soulmate.
Seated before the crackling fire, you enveloped yourself in the warmth of your blanket, captivated by the dancing of the flames. Your silent wish lingered in the air - that, perhaps, if you remained in this cozy atmosphere long enough, fatigue would gradually claim you.
"Up late thinking of me, princess?" Sirius's voice breaks the silence, causing your body to tense reflexively. You shoot him a glare over your shoulder as he settles into the floor beside you, his gaze fixed on the flickering flames instead of meeting yours.
"What are you doing?" You quip, your tone laced with irritation. Sirius glances in your direction, leaning back on his palms with a subtle smirk playing on his lips. Amusement dances in his eyes as he takes in your furrowed brows and the unmistakable look of irritation etched across your features.
“Warming up. It’s rather cold in the dorm,” He says, before glancing down at the blanket that’s wrapped around your figure. “Care to share? ”
“Get fucked,” You huff, pulling the blanket tighter around your figure, your gaze fixed on the fireplace as you ignore Sirius's laughter, “Why are you sitting here? Go somewhere else.”
“Where’s the fun in that?”
“I’m not in the mood to deal with you.” You snark, your hopes of relaxing by the fire dashed by the unexpected disruption.
“And when are you?” Sirius's tone carries a teasing edge, and a mischievous grin tugs at his lips as he observes your bristling reaction.
He longs for you to turn and meet his gaze, to shoot him the scathing glare he's so accustomed to receiving.
You turn sharply, your eyes narrowing into thin slits as you fix them on Sirius, a silent warning brewing in your gaze. There she is, he thinks.
“Go somewhere else.” You repeat, staring Sirius down.
“No.” He declares, shifting his position to squarely face you, leaving no doubt that he has no intention of backing down or leaving anytime soon.
“What’s your problem?” You grit out your words, and Sirius narrows his eyes at you as though you've struck a nerve. His reaction is swift, catching you off guard. While you and Sirius have always engaged in banter, he had never looked at you with such palpable hatred before.
“You.” He snaps, his voice dripping with disdain, devoid of its usual teasing lilt that never fails to irk you. Instead, his expression morphs into one of genuine animosity, a stark departure from the usual banter that fuels your frustration.
“Why? What have I ever done to you?” You're worked up now, your heart thumping with frustration as you pivot to fully face him. In your angered state, you miscalculate the proximity between you, and you're startled to find yourselves mere inches apart. Neither of you budges, both refusing to back away, as doing so would feel like conceding defeat.
Neither of you speaks, the air heavy with tension as you stare at each other through narrowed eyes, chests heaving with unresolved emotions. And in a heart-stopping moment, you feel it—the undeniable tug, the unspoken connection between you.
Your mouth parts in surprise, caught off guard by the intensity of the moment. Before you can truly react, Sirius rises abruptly and strides back to his room, leaving you sitting in stunned silence by the fireplace.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You close your eyes, listening to the pitter patter on the roof, reminding you when you lost... everything.
You stop forcing yourself to close off your mind and let go, allowing everything you’ve been holding in, to be free.
Tumblr media
He stares at you with a clenched jaw.
"Don't go," you plead with him. "Please, don't leave." You clutch onto his forearm.
He stares at you with furrowed brows, upset with himself for making his little bird cry. "I have to."
“Something is going to happen- has happened. I don’t want to lose you too.”
His hand brushes across your cheeks, wiping away your tears. “You’re not going to lose me,” the corner of his lips twitch. “I’ll be back before you know it.” A lie, he knows it well enough now (James told you two the same thing yesterday).
You don’t want to force him to stay if he doesn’t want to, but you can’t let him go, not when you’ve barely had him. “… please.”
“I have to do this.” The corner of his lips tugged upwards giving you more of a small smile. He nods, as a way to reassure you, silently promising to see each other soon, partially for you but mainly for himself. He turns around, his back facing you.
“You won’t make it back to me and- and Remus. We’ll be alone. We’ll be alone if you leave.”
He pauses, his shoulders tensing at your words.
Only your friends knew of the visions, it was too dangerous for anyone to know but you could always rely on them, they just never knew the extent to what you could see.
Another reason you keep away from Sybill, not wanting to put her in danger if she knew the extent of her powers.
“Do you know what happens?” He asks, over his shoulder, letting his hair cover you from the corner of his eye.
You shake your head. “I- I only know you don’t come back. Where you go after or what happens to you isn’t clear and I’m absolutely petrified that that means you’ve died or something much worse,” your voice trails off into a whisper as you tell him your fear. “Please don’t leave me alone. We never got to tell them-”
His shoulders begin to shake.
Your brows knit together, and you think he’s crying; belly aching laughter fills the room instead of gut-wrenching sobs.
He turns around, clutching his stomach, throwing his head back as he laughs as if you’ve told him the funniest thing.
“Why are you laughing?”
“Of course, you don’t see me coming back. I’m probably going to die.” His laughter dies down a bit after actually saying it out loud.
Your face turns sour. “And you think that’s funny?!”
“A bit, yeah. Of course, I’m the one who dies. It’s only fitting after everything-” he’s cut off.
A small echo reverberates off the walls.
He places a hand on his cheek, rubbing the now sore spot. He turns to look at you.
“You think it’s funny to joke about something like this... you- you dying is funny!” You run your fingers angrily through your hair. “How- no, no-” Your hands fall past your face. Your shoulders are tense, and your fingers are spread apart in anger. You could never understand why he was acting this way. “Why would you think that?!”
“What else am I supposed to do?”
You scoff. “For one, don't joke about you dying because it absolutely terrifies me.”
“I’m sorry, little bird.”
You nod, unsure of what to say next. “We should come up with a plan, right?”
“For?”
“A way to make sure James and Lily are okay before we go in there unprepared and potentially die.”
“I’ll go check on them and make sure everything is okay while you stay here and wait for me to come back, yeah?”
You blink once, glaring at him soon after. “You must be out of your damn mind if you think I’m going to let you go there alone.”
“You're staying here where it’s safe.”
“No!” You roar.
“Just listen to me-”
“You want me to stay here while you go over there without any backup. I’m not letting you go there alone.”
“You can’t stop me.”
“Like hell I can’t.”
He cups your cheeks, forcing you to look into his eyes. “You... are... staying... here. I don’t want to be distracted because I’m worried that when I turn around, you’ll be dead.”
“What about me!” You cry.
“You need to stay here.” He places his forehead on yours, enjoying the warmth and thinking of how happy you two were the day before; you close your eyes, thinking of his face when you finally agreed to go out with him and how ecstatic you both were.
You place your hands on top of his. “Please don’t go,” you plead once more.
He slowly moves towards you, hands resting on your cheeks. “I can’t wait for tomorrow and hear that my friends are dead when I knew I could have done something tonight.”
“Let me go with you. Don’t make me stay here alone,” your grip tightens, digging into his skin, clinging to him for as long as you can.
“I can do this.”
“What has James always told you?”
He understands what you’re implying. “It's best to have backup.”
“I can be your backup. We work well together. We can do this, we’re husband and wife now, we’ll look out for one another like we’ve always done.”
He shakes his head, tears pooling in his eyes, blurring his vision. “I can’t let the woman I love come with me.”
“And I can’t let the man I love go into a death trap. I can’t bear nor stand the thought of not seeing you again. Please... don’t push me away and force me into staying here. Don’t make me live here… alone, without you.”
He swipes his thumb across your cheeks.
Your vision becomes cloudy due to the tears getting trapped in your lashes as more pool in your waterline. Your heart is heavy, as if on the verge of breaking, shocking it hasn’t already broke.
“I love you, that’s why I’m doing this for us.”
“Don’t say that.”
“I’ll be back before you know it.” He removes his hands from your cheeks and steps away.
“Sirius, please. Don’t go. Don’t go.” You sob, reaching for him. You wipe away your tears, but it becomes a complicated task as you continue to cry, and more tears are stuck in your lashes.
“I will come back to you, little bird.”
"Sirius! Don't leave. Don’t leave me. Please, don't go!" You’re right behind him, hand reaching out for him.
He tries not to tear up but fails, watching as you chase after him, reminding him of when you were children, but it was him doing the chasing… except for when he absolutely pissed you off.
He can’t leave.
You didn't know what went through his mind that night but, he was brought back to the last time he pissed you off, just before he asked you out.
A pleasant time for him because he knew that day and, in that moment, it was time he stopped being a chicken and ask you out.
-
“So, why are we running now?” Remus asks, barely breaking a sweat as he and Sirius pass by their other two friends (and members).
The other two glance at one another, the lighter haired boy shrugging his shoulders.
“Padfoot, where are you going?” James shouts, falling behind because he’s confused and has no idea why they’re running.
The mother hen of the group grabs the remaining member of their group, pulling him along as he protests along the way.
The boy with the longest hair out of the group, looks over his shoulder and smiles, catching the sight of your body turning the corner. “We’re running.”
“From?”
“Sirius Orion Black!” You shout.
“Run, Pads Run!” James calls out to him as he pulls Peter beside him, blocking you from getting him.
In his eyes, you looked so ethereal as you try and push past his brother, even more beautiful than Aphrodite herself.
-
He stops in front of you, remembering that day fondly, cupping your cheeks once more, pulling you closer, kissing you with everything he’s got.
Sirius continues to pull you closer towards him, needing to let you know he loves you one last time because you, you are his everything and being in a world without you is not a world to live in at all and he’ll be damned if he didn’t give you a proper goodbye.
You clutch onto him; afraid this is the end of your beginning even more so as your intimate kiss is powerful enough for you to see into his mind and see all of his memories revolving around you. You two part when you need to take a breath.
He can never keep his mouth shut. “Wow.”
You tilt your head, “what?”
“I mean I- I always knew you’d be good and maybe a little part of me expected you to be this amazing, because you always are and- wow.” He stares into your eyes, shifting from one to the other feeling as if he was losing more of his breath.
You smile. “Must you always be such a charmer.” Your face falls when you realize what’s happening. “You’re still leaving,” you sniffle.
He nods, “I have to.”
“No, you don’t.”
“I do.”
You ignore him. “We can- we can come up with a plan and figure out how to stop he who shall not be named and protect everyone.”
“I-” He starts off, unable to take it anymore; he can’t hear you ramble on any further. “I’m doing this for the people I care for!”
“I can’t just let you go empty handed! You and I both know it’s always best to have someone by your side.” You grab his hand, clutching it knowing this is the last chance you have to keep him here, with you. “I want to be by your side for better or for worse.”
“And I want you to come with me. Merlin knows but I can’t stay in a world where we are afraid someone is going to come after us. I want you to stay where you’ll be safe. I’ll be back before you can say I’m gone. I always come back to you.”
“Why can’t you listen? Please don’t go,” you gasp, unable to hold in your sobs.
“I have to.”
“I’m scared.”
“So am I... but as long as I know that you’ll still be here by the time I come back, I’ll be okay.” He cups your cheek, thumb brushing against your cheek. “You are my hope.”
Your bottom lip quivers. “You’re mine too-”
“Then it’s done. You’ll see me tomorrow at the latest.”
You clench your jaw, more tears pooling in your waterline. “Fine.”
He nods. “Good. I will come back to you one way or another.”
“I know... I love you,” you whisper.
A smile tugs at his lips but he resists the urge to do so. “You couldn’t admit it before until I came to your rescue back at Hogwarts and now that I might die, you admit it again. Always a stubborn one, you were,” he jokes before the humor falls from his face.
“And I love you.” He makes his way towards the fireplace in your shared apartment.
You run towards him. “You know I don’t want you to go alone or at all. But please just- just- come back to me, Sirius.”
He nods, standing in place. “I know... this is something I have to do… for us. And you know I will. I always come back to you.” He winks then he’s gone.
Your lips twitch as your vision sways; the room spinning to the side making you wonder if your body moving the same way before collapsing onto your knees.
The pain in your limbs is there but you're too heartbroken to focus on the danger that's close to you as you plead with all your might to any god, wizard; whoever might be listening.
“Come back. Please come back.” You beg, banging your fists onto the floor. Too into your head, you’re unaware of who's that’s arrived.
“Heartbreaking, truly,” said the voice.
You froze, your entire body tensing at the voice (the voice of a traitor that is).
Then came the first time you thought you weren’t going to make it through the night.
"Have I interrupted your pity party?"
Your eyes widen as he steps closer, the moonlight being the only light illuminating his figure. "Peter?" You fully turn to see your so-called friend, standing for the opposing team; how could he have fallen so far and joined the side here to ruin lives.
Peter ignores your heated and confused gaze, opting to look at the picture behind you, remembering when you all were younger. His lips twitch before curling into a smirk full of hate at the memories of the way his friends treated him. "Do you know why I'm here?"
You don't say anything, still shocked the boy you all considered a friend nay a brother, is here to kill you.
"Still speechless?" He turns, the smirk turning into something more sinister, just for you.
"Not for you." You stare at the rat.
"She speaks."
You push yourself off the ground. "You won't win."
"I think you underestimate what they have in mind... for you."
“I won’t join you,” you sneer.
“I never said anything about you joining… little bird.”
“You don’t get to call me that!”
“Why?” He feigns a hurt expression. “Is it because only your precious husband can call you that?”
You're taken back, eyes widening. “How do you-”
“It was obvious, everyone knows.” He clicks his tongue, "so much for keeping it a surprise."

The weather isn’t so warm anymore. September is upon you and with it, a cool breeze has settled over London. The trees remain green and lush for now, but you know they will soon colour themselves in warmer tones, before letting their leaves fall.
Sirius is lying in the grass, by the Serpentine. His head on your laps, he lets you run your fingers through his hair, heaves a content sigh at the soothing feeling. It’s a quiet afternoon, or perhaps it’s only getting late, and families are home already. But Sirius has no intention to move. After all, you’re here, with your fingers in his hair, why would he want to leave?
Besides, tomorrow morning, he’ll go King’s Cross station, run through a wall and board the Hogwarts Express. And then he’ll be off, just like that. Just like that…
He doesn’t see how this can work. How can he even write to you? He can’t use an owl… Euphemia and Fleamont have offered to go the post office, but Sirius is reluctant. He doesn’t want to bother them…
Still, he doesn’t want this to end. He likes you. An awful lot. Actually, he’s starting to truly fall for you, all the way down towards love, but he can’t bring himself to say it out loud or to even think of the word. It’s too hard for him. After living with his family, love is too close to hatred for him to look at you and think of that word. After all, there isn’t an ounce of hatred in his heart targeted towards you.
Anyway, this is not the point. The point is that he’s about to leave for Scotland, and you won’t. The point is that he has no clue how to contact your properly. He’s given you a fake address that will lead to the Potters’ house so you can write to him, but again, he doesn’t want to bother them. He bothers them enough already…
“What’s going in this busy head of yours, honey?”
Honey. You’ve started calling him that about three weeks ago, and he adores it. It sounds so sweet, so much like you in your yellow sundress. So unlike him, in his dark t-shirt and heavy boots. So unlike him, with his name tainted with night…
Sirius merely hums in response, closing his eyes again, the leaves of the oak tree you’re leaning against disappearing beyond his eyelids. You don’t let him get away with it so easily though, he’s almost endeared by it. He would have been, any other day, if the wait of separation wasn’t so heavy on his heart today.
“Sirius? You’re alright?”
He shrugs. He knows he’ll give up in a few seconds, your fingers are too gentle as they get lost in his hair, your warmth too soothing.
He looks up at you again. He’s put his leather jacket on your shoulders about half an hour ago, before he lied down, because he noticed you were shivering. You look adorable. You look beautiful. He never wants this to end. He wants to keep his jacket on your shoulders forever…
“Just… a little sad that I’m leaving,” he admits. “Which is weird, cause I’ve always been eager to go to Hogwarts before.”
You nod, a small smile on your lips.
“Is it because of me?”
“Who else could it be? Certainly not because of Jackie, she’s insufferable.”
“You like her. And she likes you too.”
He can’t refrain a smile at that. He’s surprised when one of your hands leaves his hair to reach for his fingers instead.
“I don’t want us to break up,” you admitted, earnest and suddenly vulnerable, perhaps more so than what you intended.
“Me neither.”
“I’ll wait for you. I’ll wait for you to come back. It’s only a few months before Christmas. Besides, I’ll write to you, daily if you miss me too much.”
Your tone is teasing, but Sirius winces, and your heart shudders at the sight, a crack runs through the porcelain of it, ready to break altogether.
“You don’t want me to write to you?”
You see Sirius hesitate, and you hate it. And he knows you hate it. It hurts him too.
“I want you to write to me,” he finally answers, after a rather long pause, choosing his words carefully. “But you can’t write directly to my school, it won’t work. And I don’t want to bother the Potters too much…”
Slowly, you nod.
“I see. I understand. Perhaps… not too often?”
Slowly, he nods. He looks worried now, sad even. And he is.
You run your thumb across his knuckles, the tip of your fingers grazing his silver rings, the metal cold against his warm skin.
“They’ve already taken me in after I ran away last summer… I don’t want to be a burden.”
Slowly, you nod. You don’t ask anything, even if Sirius guesses that questions are burning on the tip of your tongue. But you don’t ask. About his family, about why he ran away… you never do. And he’s grateful for it, but sometimes he wonders why you don’t.
Are you afraid? Or simply kind?
He sits up without warning, and his back is almost to you now. He heaves a sigh, putting even more distance between the two of you, and you hate it.
Still, you don’t ask.
His eyes drift towards the river, towards the dirty, muddy water filled with lost feathers. A group of swans swims away, without taking a single look back.
“Sirius?”
“Hmm?”
“You’re okay?”
“Of course.”
A pregnant pause. An expectation. You take him aback with your statement.
“I don’t want you to leave. I’ll miss you.”
The ghost of a smile grazes his lips, he reaches for your hand, but doesn’t turn to you for now.
“I’ll miss you too.”
His hold is a little too tight, you know he’s holding back. You’ve grown used to it. Gently, you splay a hand across his spine, the fabric of his t-shirt soft under your palm despite the dust and the dry grass that have clung to the material here and there.
“Please, don’t hold back,” you ask so gently, Sirius’s eyes fill with tears. “It’s our last afternoon together before Christmas. Don’t hold back. What’s bothering you?”
He clears his throat, the tears gone, replaced by a tightly set jaw.
“You never ask.”
“What do you mean?”
“You never ask about my family.”
You shrug.
“I know that it’s difficult for you to talk about it. I reckon… that you’ll tell me more about it when you’re ready. I don’t want to push you, if you’re not ready.”
At long last, he turns to look at you again, but he doesn’t say anything. He doesn’t know what to say, anyway…
He hesitates before speaking again. Because it sounds silly. He reckons you won’t understand. And it would hurt a lot more than he can admit. But there’s a weight on his heart, and he wants to lift it, even if it can’t last for long.
“I’m going to see my brother at Hogwarts.”
“Regulus?”
He nods.
“I don’t know how I feel about it,” he confesses. “I miss him. But… I also hate him.”
“Do you hate him? Are you simply angry?”
He considers the question. It’s a little too accurate, and he smiles.
“Yeah… I think I’m angry. I’m angry he chose to stay. I’m angry I can’t protect him anymore. I’m angry he doesn’t have the guts to break free. I’m angry he’s uncertain about my parents beliefs.”
“But you still miss him.”
“Yeah… yeah, I miss him.”
He sets his gaze on the river again, lets go of your hand to wrap his arms around his knees.
“The first time I took the train, my mother was so proud. And I both loved it and hated it. And I think… I’m angry because it didn’t really change. I don’t believe in any of the conservative bullshit my parents are so adamant to defend, and I’ll never forgive them for how much they hurt me and my brother. And yet I… every time I get on that train I see my mother’s face beaming at me and looking at me as if I was the most extraordinary thing in the world, and I long for this feeling again.”
He heaves a sigh.
“I want you to write to me. But the Potters… they didn’t have to take me in, and they did. I don’t want them to regret doing that.”
“I’ll write to you once a month. Would that be alright? That’s not too often.”
Slowly, Sirius nods.
“Okay, I’ll wait for your letter, and I’ll reply.”
“Okay.”
He’s surprised when you wrap your arms around him from behind, when you rest your cheek against his shoulder blade. He loves it though. He feels soothed all over again, his busy mind quietened again. The face of Walburga disappears, and the muddy water is back instead, with its white swans almost disappearing now, in the distance.
“Why do I miss them, when I hate them?”
You tighten your hold on him before you answer.
“They raised you. They loved you, even if it hurt. They taught you how it is to be loved first. You have to rewrite that definition, with better people, better examples. But they’re still your family, even if they hurt you. Your mother still looked at you with pride that day, even if she hurt you only a few hours before. It’s not black and white, like everything else in life. I reckon… it was so familiar a feeling, such a mingling of pain and love, you can’t really tell them apart anymore. Am I wrong?”
Sirius shook his head, stunned.
“I don’t dare asking you questions about your family, because I know it hurts,” you go on, your tone infinitely kind. “But I still care. Do you understand? I care about you, about who you are… I just… don’t want to hurt you. But you can tell me about it whenever you feel ready, okay? I’m… it’s not disinterest, it’s just… caution.”
Slowly, he nods.
“Thank you.”
He holds your hands in his, twisting his neck to press his temple against your hair, closing his eyes.
And his gratefulness tastes like love, but he’s not ready to admit it. You’re right, he needs to redefine the word, before speaking it again, and aim it at you.
When he kisses you, a few minutes later, it tastes like goodbye, but it’s not as sad as you expected it to be. And when he tells you he’ll wait for you, that he’ll wait for Christmas, that you can count on him, it’s easy to believe him…

The two of you were just a couple of young kids suddenly thrust into adulthood.
During the last few months at Hogwarts the thoughts about the future couldn’t escape your mind. It felt strange in a sense, because you remembered planning out your life after school down to the smallest details. You had your mind set on becoming a healer for a long, long while. You studied pretty much every single day, dusk till dawn, dawn till dusk – you had to ace the N.E.W.Ts or else your childhood dream would be crushed by the ruthless claws of the education system. Sirius never got that. He sounded rather nonchalant every time you tried to have a talk about the future, even when it came to the future of you as a couple. He didn’t have any plans, at least as far as you were aware. He brushed off your worries like they were specks of dust on one of his immaculate white shirts (two buttons at the top always undone, three – on special occasions). At some point, you had to give up trying to hammer at least some sense of responsibility into his head (not literally, but sometimes you really wanted to). But you stupidly didn’t, so you had to deal with an actual toddler of a boyfriend on top of your daily stress of the ever-accumulating homework and extra credit tasks you never failed to take.
Sirius was annoyed by your never-ending passion to study as much and as often as you could. He always joked about the fact that he had never spent this much time in the library as he started to when you got together. That much was true: in order to catch mere minutes with you he had to visit the quietest place in Hogwarts rather often – way more often than he would prefer. He wasn’t really joking when he said it though, and you started to catch irritated glances from him from time to time as your relationship progressed. At first, he used to compliment your longing for knowledge, he used to say you looked cute cuddled up with a book on a couch in the common room; as time went by, the number and the poetic value of his compliments had majorly decreased.
Sirius couldn’t help thinking that he didn’t sign up for this, but he didn’t have enough nerve to voice these thoughts. Still, you started having more and more fights. In your mind, you shouldn’t have had any during the so-called “honeymoon phase” of your relationship, but you chucked it all up to simple teenage drama. You thought it was brilliantly self-aware of you, but obviously it didn’t seem like it to Sirius. He hated the fact that he had to scramble for crumbs of your attention and lost the battle against your textbooks more than half the time. He wasn’t used to being sidelined, more so when his opponent was an ancient Herbology volume that looked like it was about to disintegrate in your hands as soon as you breathed on it.
You still had love for each other. It wasn’t puppy love, oh no – your eyes would shoot daggers at anyone who even dared to suggest it. Sirius was also of an incredibly high opinion of that thing between the two of you, calling you “star-crossed lovers” and “the modern version of Romeo and Juliet”. He started using the latter as soon as you made him acquainted with this terribly upsetting love story written by a muggle literary genius, and wouldn’t let it go even after learning that these kids did, in fact, die. He always assured you that you wouldn’t end up like them, that even death couldn’t do you part, and you just knew he was right. You just knew.

“So, what’s next?”
You were standing on the platform, waiting for Hogwarts Express to pick you up and take you away into the likely gray and rainy but still welcoming embrace of London. Your eyes were still glistening in the sun from all the tears you shed during the graduation ceremony. You kept sobbing as you left the school grounds on the same boats that took you there when you were just a small child with a dream. To be honest, you still felt like a child with a dream; suddenly, you weren’t fully ready to take the next step that could take your life in various directions even you, a goody-two-shoes with spreadsheets tracking her exam scores, didn’t have the ability to predict.
“I don’t know, baby. We’ll figure it out.”
Sirius was as laconic as he usually was when it came to these kinds of talks. His hands were wrapped around your waist, bringing you some sense of comfort in front of this huge uncharted wasteland that was the future. You looked up at him, exploring every single feature of his carefree face, completely unbothered by any mighty thinking. You wanted to remember him like that.
“Oh, the lovebirds are at it again, look at them!” James yelled, running up to you hand in hand with Lily. You let out a little laugh, because he seemed to be blissfully unaware of him being a member of the “lovebirds club” as well.
“You ready?” he asked, hugging Lily from behind as they stopped next to you.
“Born ready.”
It was such a Sirius line. You remembered getting annoyed at how he inevitably used it every time you questioned his lack of concern about tomorrow. He was born ready to face anything – McGonagall’s justified wrath when he failed (or, more precisely, didn’t even start) to complete the simplest Transfiguration homework known to man; raging Slytherins after a particularly nasty Quidditch loss; a hangover after getting wasted on very illegal firewhiskey that the guys managed to get at the Hog’s Head and sneak into school. You weren’t born ready, so you felt his words were rather offensive towards your anxious state.
“Where’s Moony? He’s always wandering somewhere; I’m shocked he hadn’t missed a train once!”
Just as Sirius’ words escaped his mouth, someone’s hand landed on his shoulder. Remus was all smiles, running his other hand through his hair to move some stray strands from his face.
“Here, Pads, don’t you worry. Wonder where this little rat is, though. Peter!!!” Remus screamed at the top of his lungs to cover as much ground as possible.
“Coming!” Peter approached your group, slightly out of breath.
You felt like you were in a dream – you know, one of those you wake up from and have to take an extra minute to yourself to come back to Earth; you can’t believe it didn’t happen in real life. That moment at the platform awoke the same exact emotions in you. You had all your friends around you, you should have been over the moon and looking forward to what life had to offer – and somewhere deep inside your mind and soul you were. But you felt your stomach turn all the same, looking back at the glorious castle that towered over the crowd of new graduates even in the distance. For the first time in years, you knew for sure that you wouldn’t be returning there on the 1st of September. But it would be the last time you would cram yourself into the carriage with your closest ones, the last time you would laugh your asses off for the whole Express to hear, the last time you would say your goodbyes on the Platform 9 ¾ and not know when would be the next time you see each other.
“Hey, baby?” Sirius gently nudged your shoulder, drawing your wandering attention. “You seem lost.”
“Can’t believe we’re leaving, is all.”
Your voice was hoarse and quiet, like it didn’t belong to you at all. Sirius pressed his lips against your temple, leaving a trace of lingering warmth. At the moment, he made sure you knew that you were his world and he was yours. The voices of your friends around you were muffled by the soft and fresh cotton blanket of his love.
“We’ll be fine, baby. I promise, we’ll be fine.”
And you wanted to believe him.
Tumblr media
The couch in your tiny rented flat was all beaten up and shabby, but as long as it was Sirius whose breath your felt on your skin while you lay on it, it didn’t matter. The whole flat had most definitely seen better days, but it was your home, your first home together, so it already had sentimental value assigned to it. Were you too young at this tender age to live together? Too young to shoulder the responsibilities that the very unforgiving Big World had yet to put on your shoulders? Your parents would enthusiastically agree, but you and Sirius would just roll your eyes in sync and you would add that you weren’t their little baby girl anymore. Then you would soften, because you loved your parents a lot, even when they were insufferable! – and assure them that they could calm down, that you had everything figured out, that you would send them owls at least every three days and visit at least once every two weeks. Your mom would laugh and say that promises were nice, but if you were to succeed in becoming a Healer like you wanted, you would never have time for all that. And you would leave, realizing with stifling regret that she was right.
“Baby, I’m sorry, I have to go,” you whispered into Sirius’ ear. He seemed to have fallen asleep, but as soon as you moved your body to lift yourself up from the couch, his eyes snapped open and he strengthened the hold he had on you. You sighed and pushed yourself against his chest, trying to unglue his tightly locked arms.
“No, Sirius, really, let me go.”
“Why would I?” he wondered, determined, of course, not to let you leave him on the couch all alone. “You’re warm, you’re soft, tonight I slept for two hours… See?”
You closed your eyes for a brief moment, clearing your head without any pressure that Sirius liked inflicting on you with his puppy eyes. Lately you had to deal with them and his pleading far too often. It had only been two weeks since you moved in together, but tension hadn’t left the air since day one, when you couldn’t agree on the chore chart you suggested – as in, Sirius didn’t want to have one at all. He thought it was perfectly fine to leave dirty dishes in the sink, to leave dust to accumulate in layers on every surface imaginable – he was a wizard, after all! He could do it whenever, so why would he spend his precious time that you can’t get back on some measly chores? His attitude drove you insane, but each time you had a fight about it, you had to let it go until another little thing would make you lose your temper. He just. Wasn’t. Cooperating. In anything.
“Sirius, love, my apprenticeship. Why do you always forget?”
“Oh yeah. Sure. Your apprenticeship.”
Sirius loosened his grip and you were able to slip away to finally start getting dressed. His bitter verbal quotation marks were a given whenever he mentioned your new job. As soon as you heard the tone of his voice, you slapped your palms against your face so hard that you could hear the sound faintly ringing in the air, and let out a whistling breath into the gaps between your fingers.
“Again?”
“What? I just said “sure”, is that not allowed anymore?”
Sirius was getting angry. You could tell by way his chest heaved harder than usual and his hands, albeit still resting on his stomach, were clenched together, knuckles so white they could blind the sun itself.
“You know what you said, Sirius. I’m not stupid.”
You didn’t have time to deal with all this nonsense, you would hate to be late to St Mungo’s again. Besides, throughout the whole fortnight you had been living together so far, you started to grow increasingly more anxious and irater whenever you had to mention your newfound venture even in a brief recollection of you day. Sirius would never leave it be, he would always, always do something or say something that hurt you. He didn’t do it maliciously, he told you anytime you took notice of that, he was just reacting, you knew how he felt about you always being away, and blah-blah-blah, and so on… You believed him, you tried really hard to believe him and spent hours on hours on hours persuading yourself that he didn’t mean it, that he loved you and was happy for you.
“Whatever. You can leave. It’s not like I’m locking the door.”
He knew you hated it. He knew how much you despised getting out of the house with a fight between the two of you still looming like the sword of Damocles above your head during the day. He also knew that you would likely forget about the whole deal by the end of it, or at least would try smoothing things over. You hated fighting. But this time he was mistaken – rage you had accrued by that point was burning you up from the inside and you were tired of the endless piles of shit he kept throwing your way.
“You know what, Sirius? You’re a real fucking asshole!”
That was a pretty pathetic insult, you thought, but turned out, it was just enough to get Sirius all riled up. He jumped up from the couch and in seconds he was standing right in front of you, spitting words straight into your face.
“A real fucking asshole?! Come on, Y/N, who taught you to swear? A fucking child?”
“Yes, it was you, so yes, a fucking child!”
Sirius stepped back, raising his eyebrows sarcastically and bursting out laughing. He was hysterical, by the sounds of it.
“I’m a child? I am a child?! And who are you then, my poor, poor soul? Because throwing me crumbs when your fucking hospital gets the whole three-course meal is real mature!”
And there he was again, shitting all over you like it was small talk.
“Could you ever respect my job?! Is this too much that I’m asking?!”
Your arms hurt from waving them around so much. You wished you could stay calm, as always, you wished you had just left, then came back at the end of the day and everything was alright. But deep down you knew this whole delusional bubble would burst at some point. Sooner was better than later.
“Come on, what job? What job?! 2 galleons a day is a-fucking-lot, isn’t it, love?”
A wave of pure shock nearly knocked you down. Your nose started tingling, signaling the imminent arrival of those pesky motherfuckers called tears. Sirius never talked about money to you, on the contrary, it was always your initiative to go over your budget for the week. He never agreed, because he felt it was too burdensome, and now he was throwing it straight back into your desperate face.
“At least I don’t sit on my ass all day! Your part-time at Fortescue’s is so much better, right?! Why don’t you try the Hog’s Head next?”
You knew you struck a nerve. You couldn’t even deny doing it deliberately, just to show him that it hurt. Sirius never explained his choice of career to you, but he seemed happy enough, so you never let it bother you. But his unwillingness to actually properly discuss it made you think he wasn’t that satisfied. You saw it on his face right after you blurted out your little speech.
“Oh yeah, I do sit on my ass all day, and you know what? Even I earn more than you!”
Sirius wasn’t that easy to break, you knew it, but you hoped that you could maybe just this one time… And you also knew that you brought this storm upon yourself, because when Sirius was angry, he could say anything, literally anything without a care in the world, something he would probably regret later. You could never guess if he actually did, but your heart was desperate to believe so. It didn’t happen often, but whenever it did, it stung like a thousand wasps landed on you at the same time and plunged their stingers deep inside your skin at the same exact spot.
“So, it is about the money?”
You weren’t shouting anymore. Any leftover strength fled your body, so you had to sit back down on the couch, staring at Sirius as he was going blurry in front of you, as if he was already drowning in the upcoming stream of your tears.
“No? If that’s what you’re getting… well, good fucking luck.”
Sirius threw his hands up, as if he was giving up. He leaned on the wall and crossed his arms on his still heavily heaving chest, looking somewhere through the leaking ceiling.
“What is it then?” you asked, almost in a whisper, because you truly did not have it in you to even raise your voice, let alone have a screaming match.
“Really? I fucking love you, that’s what!”
Sirius did have it in him. He tried really hard to ignore your fallen spirit; he felt the need to dump the entirety of his emotional outburst on you, because when else would he do it? Things were already perfectly awful, so nothing had the capacity to make the situation worse.
You wished you had some magical noise-cancelling earmuffs that would drown out his voice. After everything he said (and had been saying before) he had the audacity to tell you that he loved you? Indeed, he did. It was no surprise, unfortunately. All your fights ended up like that – he told you that he loved you, that he was just afraid of losing you, that you were his everything; he begged you to say that you loved him too. He needed to hear it, he cried. And you would always crumble right there with him. You forgave him every. Single. Time. And then he went back to his usual careless self.
“I want to be with you in every possible way, do you understand that? Emotionally, spiritually, or whatever the fuck you call it, and physically.” Sirius took your silence as a go-ahead for him to continue, his voice still raised. “And right now, I can’t have that. And I don’t like it, Y/N, I hate it with a burning passion. Why can’t you see it?” he finished much softer.
You finally let a violent shower of tears leave your eyes. You couldn’t stand crying in front of Sirius – it was a sign he won. But he never let it show. He could finally play the part he knew and loved the most: a wonderful apologetic boyfriend who pulled you into his arms, cradled you like a baby and gave your head thousands of little kisses while you wept into his shoulder. He apologized over and over and you felt guilty for making him do it. Ultimately, he was right. Maybe you were selfish, maybe you didn’t have your priorities straight, maybe you wronged him each and every time you took an extra shift at St Mungo’s to prove yourself as a reliable Trainee Healer. Maybe he did love you more than life itself. Maybe he was your fate, your forever and ever, and you were his.
“We’ll be fine, baby. I promise, we’ll be fine.”
You had already heard these words before. You believed them.

TW: drugging (so slay), gaslighting (because it's so fun), and idk what else, bad writing?
Summary: Are you just seeing things? Definitely not, but why does everyone else think so?
a/n: literally leave me alone... I know this is bad, but I think the ending is pretty good? Let me know what you think. Also sorry for the spelling errors
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4
Tumblr media
You were a woman on a mission, nothing was going to stop you from talking to the doctor, and nothing was going to stop you from getting an answer. Not even the sweet kisses your lover was leaving on your shoulders, that slowly trailed down lower. No matter how much you wish this to continue, you need answers more.
“Siri, we need to get up. You have to go to work.” You let out a content sigh as you pulled the comforter down.
His whine of protest was loud and upset. That was until he saw the time. The blankets and pillows were tossed all over the bed as he himself flew out of bed. Slipping on the hardwood floor in his socks on the way to the closet, he laid on the ground for a minute taking a ginormous breath before getting up and pulling out his outfit.
“My love, I think we should invite the others over for dinner tonight. We could pull out the sprinkler for Harry and Neville maybe?” He turned around to see you pulling on a nicer shirt than you usually wear, wanting to seem like someone who could be told important things, and smiled. “You look beautiful, as usual. Do you have plans?”
Should you tell him? Maybe he could help? No. No, this was something you and the other girls needed to figure out by yourselves.
“Just hanging out with the girls, we might go shopping? I’ll have to pick up some stuff for salad and a barbecue, i'm assuming.”
“If you, my gorgeous, stunning, lovely wife, would be so kind, then yes. I think we just need some burgers and lettuce.” He pressed a kiss to your cheek before making his way out to the kitchen and grabbing the lunch you had made for him last night.
As he got in the car,, you waved and blew a kiss goodbye. He playfully caught it and put it in his pocket. Lovesick fool, you thought to yourself.
You finished dressing and packing your stuff up to go, meeting at Alice’s house. But when you got there, Lily and Marlene were the only ones there.
“Where are the others?” You questioned. But by Marlene's distasteful expression, you already knew.
“They backed out because they’re afraid everything is going to change.” Lily answered, it was clearly she was just as upset, if not more.
“Well it is going to change. Isn’t it? I mean we are finally going to get some answers.” You tried to smile reassuringly, but it probably looked like a nervous grimace.
“Let’s just go before any of us decides to back out.” Marlene pushed.
She hadn’t opened up at the gathering the other day. Had she experienced something similar? Or had she just wanted to stand by your side?
“You need an appointment to meet with the doctor. He is a very busy man.” The assistant repeated for the 2nd time.
“Busy? How is he busy? No one ever comes in, there isn’t a need to. Nothing ever goes that wrong. Just let us see him.” Lily said, her lack of patience bled through.
That's when Marlene pushed the assistant aside and pushed open the doctors door. There he was, reading a book by the unlit fireplace. For a moment you thought you saw the cover of The Hobbit. But at second glance it was a psychology book, specifically a Pavlovian book.
“Ladies, I wasn’t expecting any visitors today.” He let out a sigh as if he was bored of us by even looking at us. “What is so urgent that you had to burst into my office?” His voice betrays his kind and caring facial features.
“Tell us what is wrong with this place. What are you doing?” Alice asked with fervor in her voice. It was quite a sight, four angry women with their arms crossed over their chest with anger and a distressed look on their faces, facing a doctor who was quite larger than all of them. If you really thought about it, you could think that the height and build difference was to prove he was better. But of course that was silly.
“I think what you should be asking is, what is wrong with you?” He then crossed his arms.
“What did you just say to us!” Mary yelled. It was more of a statement made in disbelief and genuine hatred than a question.
“Of course I didn’t mean it in that way, ladies. I just mean… you all must be struggling with something? Are you sick?” His bored tone betraying him again.
“Why are we the only ones affected? There has to be some explanation as to why everything is perfect.” You stated. “Why does my husband make me breakfast on the weekends?” You questioned.
“Why does James never run late to work?”
“Why is the grass always so short without being cut for weeks?”
“Why is every week the same?”
The doctor looked a bit taken back by the comments before springing into action.
“I think I have just the thing for this.” He rummaged through his desk drawers before pulling out a bottle of pills. “One for each of you.” He started as he opened the bottle.
Alice looked unsure for a moment before grabbing on from him, Lily was the next to give in, the rest following soon. But not one of the women actually put it in their mouth.
“Maybe you’re the one who needs it, doctor?” Marlene grabbed the by the wrist harshly, and dragged him closer then reaching to put it in his mouth.
“GUARDS!!” The doctor yelled before the pill was shoved into his mouth. Though he quickly spit it out. Not a moment later a bunch of burly men came in and began grabbing at everyone. Something poked you in the arm, a few moments later you began to get dizzy and everything turned blurry. You couldn’t fight back, so you just accepted your fate.
Waking up in a strange white room you tried to sit up, only to find yourself restrained.
“It’s for your own good, love.” His voice was quiet but still there.
“Don’t call me that.” You sounded tired, the words still soured a bit. Sirius’s hand then found its way on to yours. If you could, you would have pushed it away and turned on your side. “What happened to the others?”
“Others? Who are you talking about?” He sounded genuinely confused.
“Lily, Alice, the others?” Looking up into his beautiful blue eyes, you almost gave in to whatever story he was about to feed you.
“There was no one else with you. The doctor found you laying on the couch burning up with a bad fever. He brought you here but you were putting up a fight, my girl is just as feisty while she is sick.” He let out a dry chuckle.
“But I'm not sick.” Trying to bring your hand up to your forehead and check how warm you actually were, you were reminded of the restraints,
“Yes you are darling, that must be the medicine talking. You must be feeling better already.”
“Sirius, I’m not sick. I haven’t been sick in a long time…”the sentence had ended but it trailed off at your sudden realization that you weren’t actually sure you could remember the last time you were sick.
“You are sick, love.” This time his voice held an angry tone. You could tell he was trying to subtly tell you to not retort, but you weren’t going to give in as easily anymore.
“Sirius Black, I am not sick. This place is sick, there is something wrong. I need to get you.” You began to pull on the restraints more aggressively now. “We need to get out, Sirius.” Panic laced your words.
“Stop talking back.” It was a threat.
“What has gotten into you? Do you not believe me? Ask Marlene. She knows.” Your voice was slowly rising.
“Marlene? Who are you talking about?”
“Who am I- What is wrong with you? Marlene, your best friend. The girl who pushed me into you all those years ago.”
“I’m sorry, I really don’t know who you are talking about.” But you could see it in his eyes, he knew who she was. He knew what was going on, yet he wasn’t sharing it with you. “Nurse!” He shouted. “I think she needs a higher dose. She is talking nonsense again.”
Your heart began to speed up, hearing it echo through the room on the machine only made it worse.
“No. No, no, no. Don’t you dare put anything else in me. Just leave me alone.” Trying to shrink as far back as you could at the sight of a needle. “Don’t you dare touch me! Sirius, make her stop. Please don’t let her put anything in me.” Tears began to collect in your eyes, threatening to spill over. “Siri! Please!” The cries didn’t even sound like you. But you could feel them in your throat.
“I’m sorry. But it's for you. Just don’t move, it will hurt less..” he grabbed hold of your ankle and began to squeeze harder as he tried to drag you back down the bed.
“Stop, you're hurting me Sirius. No, stop, stop, stop” But it was too late, the nurse already injected you.
“It’s for your own good.” His voice began to muffle once again.
“I hate you, Sirius Black.” Was the last thing you said to him before everything went black.

“You’ve caused quite the ruckus Miss Potter.” Professor McGonagall sighed.
I was sat in her office, annoyed more than anything. I was going to raise hell if nothing was done with what Mulciber did to Lily. Slytherins always got away with anything because of their rich families, it bothered me deeply that the school did nothing about the cruel things they did.
“Professor, Mulciber was choking Lily! I saw his wand out, you have to believe me!” I insisted, grasping the arms of the chair.
“I want to Miss Potter, but there were no other witnesses to the account.” she said, a disappointed look on her face.
“What do you mean? James and Sirius were there!” I exclaimed.
“Yes, but none of them saw Mr. Mulciber’s wand out.” she said coolly.
“I wouldn’t just attack someone out of nowhere Professor!” I shouted, running my hand through my hair.
“You know there has to be punishment Miss Potter. I know these Slytherin boys are well…not the best behaved, but you all need to learn to just look the other way.” she said calmly, leaning forward slightly.
“Whatever, I know what I saw…I’d do it again to protect my friends.” I grumbled, sitting back in the chair.
“A week of detention, and 50 points from Gryffindor. That’s the best I can do considering the circumstances.” she stated firmly, folding her hands on her desk.
“Fine, goodbye Professor.” I said coldly, picking my bag up and storming out of her office.
I slammed the door shut, turning to go to my next class. I wasn’t paying attention to where I was walking, fooling with some books in my bag. I hit something hard, bouncing off and tumbled towards the ground. Arms caught me before I could hit the ground.
“Guess now you can say I quite literally knocked you off your feet love.” Sirius chuckled, keeping his arms around me once I righted myself.
“Always full of yourself Pads,” I mumbled, pushing my hair back from my face.
“How was the meeting? Did McGony go easy on you?” he asked, pulling me closer to him.
“I have detention for a week, and I lost us house points.” I sighed, resting my hands on his chest.
“That’s not too bad, at least it will be with McGonagall.” he offered, his hands squeezing my waist lightly.
“She said she didn’t want to punish me, so I think she knows what they are.” I whispered as other students walked past us.
“I’m not surprised, it’s not like it’s a secret. They’re proud to be in the Sacred 28, my parents thought I’d be the same way.” he murmured, looking down at our feet.
“Siri,” I mumbled, moving my hands around his middle to hug him to me.
“My lovely mother used to hex me when I said anything cross about how what was happening is wrong.” he said quietly, not meeting my eyes when he looked back up.
“That’s all over now sweetheart, you have a place with Jamie and I. You never have to go back to them again.” I assured him, leaning to kiss his jaw.
“You and James are the best thing that’s come into my life….I’d still be there if I hadn’t met you all.” he whispered again, his face going into my shoulder.
“I’ll always be here for you, until the very end. You know you can always talk to me about anything.” I whispered back, kissing his cheek.
“I know, thank you love.” he said softly, tenderly kissing my forehead.

Sirius and I got to DATDA early, Slughorn had let my class out early and it just happened that Sirus was out of his charms class at the same time. The rest of the Marauder’s piled in along with Lily walking beside James. A solemn look adorned Lily’s features, my assumption being that James had told her about my visit with McGonagall.
“I can’t believe McGonagall gave you detention, that’s bloody ridiculous.” James huffed, plopping down at his desk across from Sirius and I.
“Since neither of you saw Mulciber pull out his wand, it makes it look like I just attacked them for no reason. Which she knows I wouldn’t, so I guess that was the lightest load she could give me.” I reiterated, leaning my chin on my hand.
“I wish I would have been paying more attention.” Sirius murmured, looking at me with sad eyes.
“No one saw them come in but me, and you all were preoccupied trying to help Lils.” I said, patting his thigh.
James had turned back to the front of the class, Sirius had tensed up since I hadn’t moved my hand from its placement.
“Don’t start something you can’t finish sweetheart.” Sirius growled while I trailed my fingers lightly on his thigh, going a tad higher than where I was before.
“I’m not starting anything love.” I said innocently, my hand dipping to the inside of his thigh.
He grabbed my hand quickly, giving me a stern look.
“Jags,” he growled, holding my hand in a death grip.
I giggled, leaning back in my seat when the Professor walked in.
“Don’t be such a sour puss Siri.” I grinned, giving him a quick kiss.
“Tease,” he mumbled, adjusting himself as class began.
I was feeling playful, seeing Sirius worked up over me had me feeling things I’d never felt. I loved that I could rile him up so easily. I waited until the Professor turned around before moving my hand directly on Sirius’s very hard manhood, his eyes went wide. I kept my eyes forward as I began to lightly palm him through his pants, trying my hardest not to look at him. I saw him out of the corner of my eye lean towards me.
“You’re so in trouble later.” he whispered, a smile lighting on my face.
“What?” I asked, faking a confused look.
He threw my hand off of him, wiggling around in his seat. He gave me a very angry look when I chuckled softly, clearly not amused with my antics. We were dismissed a few minutes later, Sirius practically dragging me out of the classroom. He pulled me into an empty closet, slamming the door closed. He removed his robe, loosening his tie a little, stalking up towards me until I was backed all the way in the corner.
“You think it’s funny to tease me in class darling?” he asked, tilting his head to the side.
“I wasn’t doing anything sweetheart.” I said, pouting my lips at him.
His hand went to my jaw, pressing his thumb on my lip that was jutting out. He pulled on it, watching it bounce back. My breath caught in my throat, becoming aware of how close we were. My chest hit his as I inhaled, our faces so close together I could feel his breath on my lips. He pressed his thumb in my mouth, hitting my tongue.
“Suck,” he said firmly.
I wrapped my lips around the digit, sucking softly. His mouth fell open watching me, his eyes clouding over with lust. I bit the pad of his thumb, flicking my tongue over it after. Sirius pulled his thumb out, trailing it down my chin, stopping just where my cleavage started. His finger lingered, looking up into my eyes. I nodded to him, telling him it was ok to touch me there. It warmed my heart that he asked me.
“You’re very naughty baby,” he whispered, his grey eyes darkening.
I hummed, leaning my head back against the wall.
“What are you going to do about it?” I challenged, arching my brow.
He leaned to touch my lips with his, not fully kissing me. I leaned the rest of the way in, but he backed away. I gave him a confused look, earning a smile. He trailed his hand further, the button of my top coming undone. One after the other came undone until he was at the bottom. I was glad I chose my white lace bra today, I thanked my earlier self. He leaned towards my ear, trailing soft kisses down to the tops of my breasts. He sucked on the skin there, leaving his mark behind. I gasped, threading my fingers through his hair.
“Sirius,” I moaned, pulling his head closer to me.
His hands resting on my stomached trailed down, going to the top of my skirt. He looked at me again, I nodded. My eyes were wild with want for this boy in front of me. He dipped his hand in, trailing over my underwear. I took in a sharp breath when he pulled my underwear to the side and laid his hand over where I was soaking for him. He hummed in my ear, his fingers prodding at the wetness between my legs. His palm rubbed against my clit, pleasure shooting all over my body.
“All this for me darling?” he asked, nipping at my earlobe.
“Yes Sirius, please.” I whined, pushing my hips forward.
He hummed lightly, continuing to rub me.
“That’s just too bad then isn’t it?” he said, fully withdrawing from me.
“No, Sirius!” I cried, gripping his wrist.
“Not so fun to be teased is it?” he questioned, smirking at me.
“You’re so mean,” I grumbled, throwing his arm away from me.
“You taste good baby,” he winked while licking his fingers clean, smiling at me.
“Fuck off,” I growled.
I buttoned my shirt back, pouting the whole time while Sirius laughed at me. He tried to kiss me, but I shoved him away. I left the closet, pacing down to McGonagall’s office. Sirius caught up to me, throwing his arm around my shoulders.
“Don’t be so sad love, I promise to make it up to you.” he chuckled, kissing my cheek.
“I’m mad at you,” I muttered, shoving his chest lightly.
“Now you know why I said not to tease me, did we learn our lesson Jagsy?” he asked, squeezing me tighter to him as we walked.
“Fuck you Padfoot.” I growled, Sirius threw his head back and laughed.
I couldn’t help but smile, I loved the sound of his laughter. We stopped outside McGonagall’s office, I turned to Sirius with a sad smile. He grabbed both sides of my face and kissed me hard. My hands went to his waist, fisting at his shirt.
His tongue poked my bottom lip, asking for entry. I touched his tongue with mine, beginning a dance. He pulled away not long after we were both starting to lose too much oxygen, resting his forehead on mine.
“I’ll see you soon love…I’ll be right here waiting for you.” he said breathlessly.
“You don’t need to do that Siri, I can walk back by myself.” I mumbled, bumping my nose with his.
“I know, I just want to.” he smiled, giving me another quick kiss.
“Well, thank you, I’ll miss you.” I whispered.
“My heart already longs for your return.” he said dramatically, fully beaming at me when I giggled.
“You’re insane.” I laughed, pulling away from him.
“Only for you dear,” he smiled, hugging me tight before I started towards Mcgonagall’s office.
Tumblr media
Detention went by surprisingly fast. I spent a little time on my homework then helped Mcgonagall organize some of her papers. I cleaned off her wood work as well, even taking the time to rearrange her books in alphabetical order.
“Well, I think we’re done for today Miss Potter. I’ll see you again tomorrow.” she said, laying her glasses on her desk.
“Yes Professor, goodnight.” I said softly, gathering my things then heading out.
Just as he had promised, Sirius was waiting for me. I was beaming, my cheeks hurting from how hard I was smiling. I ran into his arms, he picked me up and spun us around. Sirius kissed my nose before setting me down. I hooked my arm with his as we walked back to the common room, telling him of my very adventitious time with McGonagall. The rest of our group greeted us when we entered the common room.
“I see you’ve turned our Jagsy to the dark side Sirius. How was your first detention?” Remus smirked.
“Boring, but I did actually finish some of my homework.” I pointed out, plopping down on the couch.
“I’m sorry you got detention for me.” Lily muttered, looking down at her feet.
“Hey, don’t talk like that. I’d do it again in a heart beat Lils. They had no right to do what they did, any of us would have done the same. Don’t blame yourself for my actions ok?” I said, taking her hands in mine.
“She’s right darling, if any of us were where Jags was sitting that day you bet we would have acted on the same instinct.” James said, rubbing her arm gently.
“We are a rambunctious group, we protect our friends no matter the cost.” Sirius smirked, folding his hand on my knee.
Tumblr media
The week was over finally, our first Quidditch game today, not surprisingly our first game was against Slytherin. James was over hyped as he always was our first game, and he even let Lily wear one of his jerseys.
I was surprised at this because he treats his uniforms like gold, my mother usually having to sneak to wash them. Everyone was wearing their game day gear, a lot of first years asking for James’ autograph. I groaned internally at what a shot this would be for his ego.
My mood soured a little when some girls in our year had wished Sirius good luck with me right beside of him. He still hadn’t asked me to be his girlfriend yet, but given the events of yesterday I’d say we’re pretty much going steady.
“Good luck today Sirius,” Marlene said, running her hand across his shoulders as she walked by.
I glared holes at her back, my lips forming an angry frown.
“Good luck today Sirius” I mocked, putting my chin on my hand.
“You know you’re the only luck I need today sweetheart.” he hummed, kissing the side of my head.
I leaned closer to his ear, gently biting on the lobe.
“You’re only saying that because you think you’ll get something from me tonight love.” I whispered, grinning when his cheeks flushed a bit.
“Care to put your money where your mouth is Potter?” he asked, arching his brow.
“In these circumstances, it would only be for you Pads.” I smirked, his dark grey eyes held a mischievous look as they always did.
“If I get us at least 50 points, you have to do something for me.” he said, staring at my lips before flicking them back up to my eyes.
“And if you don’t?” I asked, tracing his fingers with mine.
“I’ll let you decide on that one.” he said, biting his lip.
“Can you two stop eye fucking each other for two seconds and focus! We have a game to win!” James shouted, his eyebrows shooting up towards his forehead.
“Well let’s head down there then.” I said, gripping Sirius’s hand.
Tumblr media
James and I had just finished going over the game plan with our team members, warning our new members how Slytherin likes to play dirty. No doubt more than one of us would get hurt today…I couldn’t remember a game against Slytherin where I had walked away unscathed. I stretched my arms, since I was a chaser I had to make sure my throwing arm was nice and loose.
James did a hand shake with me before we went out to the pitch, something we did every game we have played since we started Quidditch. We were stood at the front since we were the captains, Sirius in line behind me. I looked back at him, and to no surprise he was already waiting to meet my eyes.
“I think I might want you to score those points Pads,” I whispered, his eyes widening.
“Naughty,” he growled.
“Then again, if you don’t….I think what I have planned will be much, much more fun.” I said, winking at him.
“Do I at least get a good luck kiss darling?” he asked, smirking as I chuckled.
I leaned back to kiss his lips quickly, my brother scolding us immediately. We were called out, meeting in the middle circle where the referee stood. All of us rode out on our brooms, circling all over the pitch. The cheers from the crowd always gave me the extra boost of motivation to play harder.
James and I smiled at each other as people started to chant our names. Not to toot my own horn, but James and I were very good at Quidditch. We had been labeled as the best seeker and best chaser the Hogwarts had ever seen.
I went in to game mode, all my focus drawn to the case containing our balls. As soon as the quaffle was launched in the air, I dove for it. I snatched it immediately, knocking away the opposing teams chaser. I had an open spot, throwing the quaffle straight into the hoop. I high fived Sirius as I passed him, the quaffle being in Slytherin’s hand now.
Slytherin liked to play dirty, doing everything and anything possible to hurt the other players. We were up 60 to 30, only having Sirus, James, our Keeper, and I left in the game. Our other team members were being whisked to the hospital. Sirius and I were toe to toe with our bet, him having scored the last 30 while I scored the first 30. At this point, I didn’t care if he won or not. I just wanted to beat Slytherin, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to know what Sirius might have in store for me.
A bludger came whirring past me, merely missing my arm as I caught the quaffle. Sirius stayed close as we tossed it back and forth to confuse the other chasers. I willed my broom to move faster, far enough away I could throw the quaffle, and twist my broom to hit the quaffle in the hoop. Another 10 points for Gryffindor.
My high didn’t last long however…
I was zooming towards our keeper, Sirius on my tail. I caught out of the corner of my eye a Slytherin member hitting the bludger…the ball going straight into our keeper. He fell to the ground with a loud thud, Sirius and I exchanging worried glances. I was cursing my brother for not catching the stupid snitch yet. Sirius nodded to me as I caught the quaffle, I raised my brows to ask for assurance and he nodded again.
I took off with Sirius staying in the keepers position, soaring past the Slytherins that tried to knock me off my broom. Just as I threw the ball in the hoop, a body slammed into mine. It jarred me for a second, having to right myself on my broom. I looked back at Sirius for a second before I felt someone’s foot meet my back, and I tumbled to the ground.
Tumblr media
I woke to the sound of yelling, lots of it.
I opened my eyes, seeing that I was still on the Quidditch pitch. A very scratched and bloody James and Sirius were hovering over me. The ref and Slytherin team captain standing a bit away. I tried to move, but my bones screamed at me. There was definitely something broken.
“Sirius,” I whispered, his curly head whipped around in response.
“Oh Merlin’s beard, how are you feeling? What hurts? Can you move?” he asked, his eyes frantic with concern.
“Calm down Pads, to be honest everything hurts right now. Nothing that I can’t handle though, I’m a Potter after all.” I smirked, or tried to.
“That you are sweetheart, we’ll get you there as soon as James stops arguing with the ref.” he mumbled, bringing my hand up to kiss the back of it.
“Arguing?” I asked.
“What they did was very illegal, but no matter, James still caught the snitch right after you fell. I’m not sure what he’s trying to accomplish right now.” Sirius shrugged.
“You know how heated he get’s about the rules, this game is his life. It would be in our best interests to keep our distance even though my whole body hurts.” I said, groaning a little when I tried to sit up.
“Baby stay still, you’re going to injure yourself more.” he said, his eyebrows furrowing.
“I want a kiss,” I pouted.
“You won baby, you can have whatever you want.” he beamed, leaning down to grant my request.
“Firstly, I’d like for you to get my idiotic brother and get me to the damn hospital.” I said, finally being able to sit up with Sirius’s help.
“As you wish,” he mumbled, kissing my cheek.
Tumblr media
It was worse than what I had thought it was going to be…..
My tibia was snapped in half in my right leg, my left ankle was dislocated. My wrist was broken, and I had fractured a rib. I was confined to the hospital for three days, Madam Pomfrey told me with that many broken bones a simple mending spell wouldn’t allow me to heal properly. My brother was pissed, and Sirius’s eyes shot so wide when they said I would be staying in here for a while  I thought they were going to pop out of the socket.
“Fuckin’ ridiculous…I know we still won, but I mean that was completely illegal they should be banned for the rest of the season.” James huffed, pacing around my bed.
“Doesn’t look like anything is being done fairly here lately,” Sirius mumbled, his thumb brushing the back of my hand.
“Guys it’s ok, I’ll be good as new in a couple days and-” I said.
“That’s not the point! You’re lucky you didn’t break your neck!” James shouted, running his hands through his hair.
“Jamie, come here.” I said softly, patting the other side of my bed. He sighed, flopping down beside me.
“I don’t like seeing you hurt.” he mumbled, tears pricking the corners of his eyes. They disappeared as quick as they came.
“I know, and I don’t like it either. But you know what this game entails, it’s not the first time either of us has had something broken.” I said, giving him a small smile.
“Yeah you’re right.” he sighed.
“I’m always right.” I chuckled, groaning after from my rib.
“I’ll make sure to get your work for you, I’m going to find Lily. She’s been worried sick about you. I’ll be back later Jagsy.” James said, kissing my head before leaving.
“You’re awful quite.” I said to Sirius.
“You gave me a right proper scare love, I couldn’t get you to wake up…” he whispered, staring at our entwined hands.
“I don’t even remember falling, the last thing I can think of is when I turned to find you.” I said, taking my hand out of his to tilt his chin up. His grey eyes met mine, sadness looming in his irises.
“For a moment, I thought you were gone. I-…Fuck.” he whimpered, letting go of my hands to rub his face.
“Pads…” I whispered, reaching out to him.
“I don’t want to ever feel like that again. I don’t think you understand how much you mean to me Jagsy.” he said, holding my hand to his cheek.
I pulled his face closer to mine, giving him a sweet kiss on his lips. He rested his forehead on mine, his eyes still closed. I kissed his nose, his cheek, and his lips again. I giggled when he nuzzled my nose, pulling back slightly.
“I want you to be mine.” he said softly.
“It’s about time you said something Pads.” I scoffed, rolling my eyes.
“Well, let’s make it official. Will you be my girlfriend?” he asked, smirking.
“I would love to be your girlfriend Siri. Do I get an extension for my winning prize since I’m hurt?” I asked, pouting my bottom lip. He kissed it, smiling at me.
“I suppose, I’ll be looking forward to it.” he said huskily, winking.
“You should go to bed, you look like you’re about to keel over.” I said, brushing my hands through his curls.
“I don’t want to leave you baby.” he whispered, frowning deeply.
“I’ll be fine, you can come see me tomorrow sweetheart.” I said softly.
“Ok, have sweet dreams love.” he said, kissing me one more time before standing up.
“They’ll be dreams of you.” I said sweetly, winking at him.
He grinned, leaving the hospital. He looked back one more time as he got to the exit, blowing me a kiss. I caught it and held it to my heart, giggling softly to myself.

“Y/N POTTER!”
I froze before a smile spread across my lips as the hall erupted in cheers, I look around the Gryffindor table where i can see everyone cheering even Lily and Marlene are cheering and smiling at me. We were friends sure but we were never really close me opting to spend time with the marauders. Thats when I turn to look at the group of boys i love so much, Peter looks shocked until i meet his eyes suddenly a smile spreads across his as he stands up clapping and cheering. Remus grabs my hand drawing my attention to him, i can see the concern in his eyes nonetheless he smiles and joins Peter standing cheering louder than anyone else in the hall. I then look across the table at my twin his face laced with concern and looks frightened, its now i realise he was scared for me to enter the tournament he nods silently then stands and leaves the hall, a wave of sadness hits me as i watch my twin walk out of the hall in the moment i needed him to be happy for me, the last face i see before i walk up the front of the great hall is Sirius, i wasnt sure what i was expecting, though what i was not expecting was the fury in his grey eyes staring at me, we meet eyes and he like James stands up and walks away. The hurt washed over me again i turn quickly and walk to where the teachers are standing, as i walk i see the proud faces of my friends in Gryffindor. I finally make it up the front where Dumbledore congratulates me and Minnie escorts me to the Vault below with the other champions. And concerned face that hold a wide smile.
“Congratulations Miss Potter.”
“Thank you Minnie.”
“Be careful, we need your help with the boys remember.”
I giggle at that and nod as she turns and walks out of the room, there had been many times when i had managed to reign in the boys pranks or stop them before they think it is a good idea to take on a group of Slytherins.
Dumbledore entered the room and gave a speech along with the minister of magic about who now we have been selected we stand alone but to be honest i wasn’t really listening i could not shake the look that James and Sirius gave me before walking out of the Great Hall. We were dismissed and I started the trek back to the common room, stopped occasionally by students congratulating me. As i said the password and stepped through the portrait door the Prewett twins came up to me.
“Well done Potter!” They said at the same time.
“Thank you guys.” I say with a smile.
“Best you go see your brother i think he has worn a hall in the floor of his dorm.”
“Thanks Fabien.” I take my leave and i cross the common room I see Lily sitting with Marlene Dorcas and Mary.
“James needs to see you Y/N.” Lily said walking toward me giving me a hug. “ he is terrified and i can’t calm him down, they won’t even let us near the dorm, him or Sirius.” I look and her a nod before running up the stairs to the familiar dorm. I knock on the door something i don’t normally do.
“Not now Lily!” I hear my brother shout.
“Sorry Jamie, not Lily!” I yell back and the door flys open Peter stepping to the side as i walk in. Remus is sitting on his bed looking a the scene in front of him, Peter closes the door patting me on the back before going and sitting on his bed, Sirius sits on his bed not saying anything and has an unreadable expression on his face. James stops pacing turning to face me. At first I thought he was going to yell at me and give me some big lecture, what I was not expecting was him barrelling toward me pulling me into a suffocating hug.
“J-James, James I can’t breathe.” He quickly pulls back.
“I cannot believe you entered!” There it was.
“James you knew i entered you followed me!”
“Told you he would be mad.” Remus mutters.
“YOU KNEW MOONY!” James shouts.
“Yes he knew he worked it out but don’t yell at him he tried to talk me out of it.”
James was fuming and turned his attention back to me.
“Why on earth would you enter!?”
“Why did you! It is no different!”
“Yes it is!”
“No James,” I snap “it is no different! Why is cause i could get hurt guess what so couldve you or sirius, I might die so could’ve you!” The boys stare at me in shock even Remus.
“I am just as capable if not more than anyone in this room. So please do tell me what the difference is.”
“The difference is it is you, you are my sister! I don’t want to see you get hurt or killed!”
“And I want to watch you! No but I didn’t stop you Jamie.” I say my voice getting softer.
“I love you Y/N, and I am proud of you for being brave enough to do this.” He hugs me again. This time with a smile on his face. “Well Marauders looks like we have a Champion on out hands.” James yells. Peter Remus and I all laugh at his sudden change of heart and before I know it i am lying on the floor with three marauders piling on top of me. We all sit up and turn to Sirius.
“Sirius?” I speak to him “Are you okay?”
“Why wouldn’t I be, not like my best friend is going into tournament where people have died.” He snarls.
“Sirius!” I say shocked, he had never directed that venomous tone toward me before.
“I think you a damn fool Y/N.” With that he leaves the room.
“Just give him time to cool off, he was more furious than James earlier, he will come around Y/N.” Peter says and I just nod.
It has been two days since i had spoken to Sirius, and I missed my best friend. Apparently he hasn’t spoken to any of the marauders, we were all concerned about him. I was upset that my best friend couldn’t be happy for me. Mum and Dad had written and said they were proud they wouldn’t let on that they were also scared. Later that day i walked up to the marauders dorm, the first task was in a week and I had no idea what it was. As i entered the room I saw all the boys sitting reading a charms book.
“You okay Y/N?”
“Fine Moony, just nervous.”
He nods and goes back to his book.
“I am sure you will crush it either way Y/N.”
“Thanks Pete.”
The door suddenly opens and Sirius walks through.
“What is she doing here?”
“Pads.” James says in a warning tone. I didn’t understand why Sirius was being like this I decided i didn’t have the energy to deal with him right now so i stood up not saying a word and walked out of the dorm despite the protest of the others. I walk toward the forbidden forest decided i needed a run. As i got to the edge of the forest i looked around after seeing i was alone i transformed into my Animagus form. Where i was standing now replaced by a White Wolf.
Tumblr media
We all laughed when i first transformed as we were not expecting me to turn into a wolf of all things. I was slightly bigger then a standard wolf and was the fastest in the group. I take off running through the forest when i came to a sudden stop hearing a mighty roar, i look around and see some orange lights not too far from me. As i approach i hear another roar, the source suddenly coming into view.
Dragons. That was the first task.
I quickly ran back towards where i had entered the forest as i approached the edge of the forest i changed back into my human form and sprinted toward the dorm where i knew the boys would be. As i burst through the door all the boys looked up to look at me standing in their doorway out of breath.
“D-Dragons.” I stutter.
“What Y/N?” James asked.
“The first task…..it is dragons.” I watch all boys faces turn to worry as I said it out loud. Sirius got up and stormed out of the room anger radiating off him.
“How are you so sure?”
“I saw them, there was three one for each of us.”
“Well looks like we need to find out how to fight a dragon. Sounds kind of fun.” James said getting up off his bed. We all looked at him weirdly sure it would be fun to learn how to fight a dragon but actually doing it, I was terrified and Sirius not talking to me made everything worse.
“You and Pete go ahead James I need to talk to Y/N.” They both nod and leave the dorm headed yo the library.
“Are you going to talk to him.”
“Why should i be the first one to make contact he is the one who isnt happy i was selected and the one that is angry.”
“I think he is mad you kept it a secret from him.”
“Like he has never kept a secret from me.”
“Not a life changing one like this.”
“I didn’t tell him cause he would have stopped me, this is my chance to finally prove I am not just the other Potter even to our group.” Remus just sighed he knew he wasn’t going to get you to change your mind.
“Well then Luna, time to teach a wolf hour to fight a dragon.”

Sirius Black x fem!reader ♡ 1.1k words
Remus opens the front door, sees Sirius on the other side, and promptly shuts it in his face.
Or he would, if Sirius weren’t so quick about wedging his shoe in the crack. The door closes on his toe unkindly.
“Ow! Moony, what if I was here to see you?”
“Doesn’t matter,” Remus says primly. “We’re not speaking to you.”
“We?” Sirius sputters, trying to get his knee in the door to further wedge it open. “What’d I do to you?”
Remus ceases trying to close the door, but won’t let it move an inch in Sirius’ direction. “Don’t. We both know what you did.”
“I didn’t think it’d be that bad!”
“Guess you should have thought harder.” Remus shrugs indifferently, before giving Sirius’ knee a shove with the butt of his palm. Sirius reels, and Remus doesn’t wait to see if he hits the pavement before shutting the door and bolting it. He turns to find your head peeking out from your room down the hall.
“It’s him?” you ask quietly, as if afraid he’ll hear you. Which he most certainly can’t, not over the pounding he’s begun on your front door.
“Remus!” He’s shouting loud enough that Remus knows he’ll be hearing from the neighbors, but he doesn’t care. “Remus, let me in!”
“Yeah,” Remus answers unnecessarily. “It’s him.” You chew on your lip, and Remus’ heart turns heavy and made of mush. “Want me to get him to go away, love? I can take him back to his place.”
Your chewing worsens. Remus worries you’re going to tear the skin off your bottom lip. “I don’t want it to be a big deal,” you say, unsure. “God, I’m really sorry I let this happen. I never meant to make things weird between you and your friend.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Remus says, and he means it. He and Sirius will get past this eventually, no matter what happens between you, but for now, he’s alright with letting Sirius sit with the consequences of his fuckup. “Listen, I’m sure Sirius wants to talk, but he’ll leave if I tell him that’s what you want. Do you want me to tell him?”
You think for a second, then swallow. “No. No, I’d better talk to him. Thanks, though, Remus.”
Remus nods, your thanks far from necessary. “I’ll be in my room, then.”
You give him a grateful smile, strained as it is, before you head in opposite directions down the hall.
Remus hears the door open, and despite every nosy urge in him, he puts his headphones on before he can catch even the beginning of your conversation. He spends the next hour trying to study while actually just glancing toward the hall every five minutes, waiting to see if you’ll come talk to him. When the knock sounds on his door he all but hops up, a bit too eager, perhaps, to be updated on what’s happened. But when he opens the door, it’s not you on the other side.
“Oh,” he says to Sirius, deadpan. “You’re still here.”
“Always happy to see you too, Moons.” Sirius lets himself into Remus’ room, sitting on his bed. He’s trying to look relaxed, leaning back on his hands with his ankles crossed in front of him, but Remus can see the tension in him. His hair is fluffy like he’s been running his hands through it, and half the polish has been chipped off his nails. “Listen, Y/N’s forgiven me, so do you think you could too?”
Remus isn’t surprised; Sirius is charming, and you seem to really like him. He obviously really likes you too, which helps. Still, Remus has to consider it for a while. “Fine,” he decides. “But I’m not going to refrain from saying I told you so. You were an idiot.”
Sirius sighs, both relief and resignation in the sound. He lies back on Remus’ bed, hands resting on his stomach where they fiddle with his rings. “I was an idiot,” he admits.
“I told you it was too early to do pranks.”
“You told me.”
“Even James told you, which is how you know you were being extra thick.”
“I know.” Sirius brings a hand to his face, eyes squeezing closed as he pinches the top of his nose. “She said it’s alright, but I’m going to spend forever trying to make it up to her.”
“Good,” Remus says, sitting down beside him. He looks down the hallway, noting your closed door and the light that seeps through the crack beneath it. You’ve left them alone so Sirius could make his amends with his friend. You’re a sweetheart that way. Sirius can be a sweetheart too, but it takes a tender hand to bring it out of him. From what Remus can tell, you bring it out. When he next speaks, his voice is a bit softened. “She’s bolder when she’s around you, but that’s really the only time I really see her acting like that. She’s usually quite shy. You embarrassed her, Pads.”
“I know,” Sirius says again with a sigh. “I guess I just thought…” he cuts a wary look towards his friend. “Alright, don’t give me shit for this, but I thought I knew her better.”
“I am going to give you shit,” Remus decides. “You’re a prick for thinking that, and you should know it.”
Sirius groans. “I know it.”
Remus hums. “So how’re you gonna make it up to her?”
A sigh. “It’s gonna take awhile.” Remus nods, pleased that he’s at least bright enough to be aware of that. “I was planning on starting tonight. Do you know where she gets those pastries she likes from?”
Remus eyes him. “I do. But there’ll be a tax.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Sirius says, rolling his eyes. “You’re covered, I’ve already got a pain au chocolat on my list. If she lets me, can I stay here tonight?”
Remus arches a brow. “You’re laying it on a bit thick. Think she’ll want you here?”
“I don’t know yet,” Sirius shrugs, and guilt hits Remus like a truck at the look on his friend’s face.
He keeps his tone as nonchalant as he can when he says, “Fine. If she lets you, you can stay. Just—” he grimaces “—nothing while I’m home, please.”
Sirius makes a face, and Remus scoffs.
“Oh, please, as if you’re so far above that. We used to be roommates too, don’t forget.” Sirius’ grin turns sheepish, and Remus rolls his eyes. “The bakery’s at the end of the block. They close soon, so hurry.”
“Thanks!” Sirius says, already halfway down the hall. He grabs his jacket from across the back of the couch and is gone.
Not five seconds pass before you’re peeking out of your room again. “Was that him leaving just now?”
“Yeah,” Remus answers you.
“Do you…do you know if he’s coming back?”
You’re all quiet hope, timid in Sirius’ absence but already lighter than you had been when Remus had last seen you. He smiles. “Yeah, he’s coming back. I don’t think we’ll be able to get rid of him for a while.”

This series is made of many independent snippets taken from Sirius and Muggle!Reader’s lovestory.
A special thanks to @damalseer and @reg-arcturus-black with whom I spoke of this project, and developped some ideas (also, they were very enthusiastic, so thank you!!)
Pairing: Sirius Black x Muggle! Reader
Warnings: fluff, perhaps some mention of violence in later chapters?
New Series:
-How We Met
-How We Kissed

(ch.3) i don’t do love
sirius despises the amortentia trope
pairing: sirius black x female! potter! slytherin! reader
summary: slughorn has a little too much fun playing matchmaker with his amortentia lesson, james’ bias confirmation is so so bad when it comes to lily, and sirius determines that oranges are objectively the worst fruit
warnings: stupid dialogue, the amortentia trope, NO (Y/N), she/her pronouns, mentions of internalized homophobia (like 4 words)
W/C: 1.7k
A/N: i feel like as my adhd meds wear off, the writing devolves into utter chaos and clownery and i wok e up and went into a writing haze and this was the result

Sirius was having the worst day of his life. He contemplated leaping out the dungeon window to allow himself to be eaten by the giant squid, but with his luck, the squid would befriend him instead and then drag him around like its little pet until he was doomed to be the cephalopod’s wet dog forever.
He figured his odds looked better if he just stayed in Potions class.
“Ms. McKinnon, since you’ve got a good understanding of Amortentia, why don’t you come up front and let us know what you see?” Marlene’s eyes flickered across the dungeon, catching the eyes of sly, smirking students as well as students confused by all the buzz in the room. She approached the cauldron cautiously.
“Well, the mother-of-pearl sheen… it’s definitely sheening! And as you can see, there is steam which is curling!” Marlene tucked her hands in the sleeves of her robes to hide their growing clamminess.
Slughorn guffawed. “You’re not the first nervous student I’ve had, Ms. McKinnon. It seems like most of you already know what today’s activity will be. Care to explain, McKinnon?”
“Right… I forgot to mention earlier, but one of Amortentia’s most unique qualities is that it smells different to every person. Usually, the scent depends on what, or who—” she faltered, refusing to make eye contact with her seatmate, “someone’s attracted to. I think.”
“Thank you again, Ms. McKinnon! Five points to Gryffindor for your explanation and another five as my apology for forcing you into the spotlight. You may take a seat unless you’d like to be first to take a whiff?” Marlene darkened, shuffling her way back to Dorcas with uncharacteristic timidness. Slughorn gathered the students around the cauldron, close enough so they could catch a glimpse of the liquid inside but far enough so that they wouldn’t be able to smell anything, thus ensuring the livelihood of the dramatic flair of Slughorn’s matchmaking scheme.
Sirius’ mind returned back to the great squid.
It wasn’t that there was anything bad about Amortentia. There wasn’t anyone he was expecting to smell. It was just that Sirius Black didn’t do love. He had enough experience with it—or more accurately, enough experience of the lack of it—to know that it was complete and utter bullshit. His parents’ marriage? A mutually beneficial economic affair. A way to preserve their stupid bloodline. The way James felt about Lily? More stupid, immature daydreams. Lily made James weak. Lily had wormed her way into his best mate’s heart and turned him into a lovesick fool. What was love good for anyway, other than making your friends embarrass themselves so you could get a laugh out of it?
“Padfoot, mate, what’s going on up there?” James waved his hand furiously in front of Sirius’ face. It didn’t take a genius to know what was going on “up there” with James—he couldn’t stop stealing glances at Lily, who tried her best to look disinterested in his pursuits as she talked with Marlene and Dorcas, slowly inching away so the two would move closer.
“Nothing, I just-”
“He’s either gonna smell everything or nothing. How many people have you hooked up with this year alone, Padfoot? It’s gotta be at least six, not including the people you’ve snogged.” Peter chucked, who was in a perfectly healthy relationship with a lovely Hufflepuff and couldn’t help but be amused by his friends’ dreary romantic prospects.
“What do you mean by nothing, Wormtail?” Remus shifted with his hands in his pockets, already fed up with the direction of the conversation. (He was not particularly keen on rehashing the details of his and Sirius’ on-and-off affair from last summer.)
“Well, Pads here is a serial non-committer. Is there anything he’s actually attracted to or is he just willing to shag anything with two legs?” James found his comment very funny. Sirius did not find his comment very funny.
Shit, is that really what people think of me? I know I got with that Ravenclaw a few days ago, but it wasn’t like it meant anything… oh fuck, that’s the reason why they’re saying that, isn’t it?
“Aw, Pads, we don’t mean it like that.” James shook Sirius by the shoulder cheerfully. “You’re just too devilishly handsome to be tied down by any one suitor. Am I right, or am I right?” Sirius’ mouth quirked up at that. For James, cocky, self obsessed James, to admit to Sirius’ otherworldly beauty? The day seemed to be looking up after all.
“Ah, Ms. Evans! My favorite Potions student, why don’t you come up and give us a whiff, hm?” Slughorn practically shoved Lily in front of the cauldron; the enthusiasm which he didn’t even bother to hide that permeated throughout the entire ordeal had made it quite obvious to the class that this lesson was no more than a poorly disguised matchmaking opportunity masquerading as academic time. “Don’t be shy now, tell us what you smell.”
Lily was blushing furiously, her cheeks nearly as firey as her hair, as she adamantly refused to look anywhere in James’ direction. James couldn’t help the goofy smile from forming on his face, his posture softening as he let out a content sigh at the sight of all of his affection.
“Sorry, Professor. I’m just- excuse me, the steam is just making me a bit pink.” Lily hesitated, nervous to bring herself any closer to the cauldron. Slughorn did not buy any of it.
“It’s alright, dear. Amortentia doesn’t bite. It will, however, be a very important part of your N.E.W.T.s, so I think it’s best if you’re able to observe closely in class today.” The Potions professor rubbed his hands together with a flourish.
“Right. Okay, I understand, Professor.” Lily eyed the swirling ambrosia-like liquid warily. She took a delicate, nonchalant sniff. “I smell… the sweet rolls at mealtimes,” she let out a nervous giggle, much to James’ delight. “It smells like the air after it rains, really earthy and rich. A little woody.” James looked at Sirius, pointing to himself with raised eyebrows.
“Oi, do I smell like the air after it rains?” James looked hopelessly lovestruck.
“Nah, mate. You smell like the mud.” James’ face immediately fell.
Lily, beginning to move away from the cauldron, suddenly coughed, her face scrunching in surprise. Marlene and Dorcas snickered, having their own suspicions about what might’ve thrown Lily off. “Is that… I think that’s quidditch equipment? And broom polish. God, I hate that stuff. It’s so potent and horrid and-” she coughed again. “Gah, why is the broom polish smell so strong?” She scurried away, mortified, throwing herself into Marlene and Dorcas’ arms as they soothed her obvious distress.
“Moony, I play quidditch! I smell like broom polish, right?” James’s face lit up once more.
“Prongs, I hate to break it to you, but there are quite literally dozens of quidditch players at this school. And besides, Lily seems to abhor the smell of broom polish. Hey, maybe that explains why she seems to hate you so much!” Remus punched James’ arm lightly as the latter settled back into a scowl.
“Mr. Black! You’re up next!” Remus and James give Sirius a small shove forwards as he stumbled towards Slughorn, accompanied by a small whoop! from Peter. Slughorn motioned toward the cauldron, and Sirius tried his best to emulate his normal swagger as he stepped forward. Lily was right. He thought. It really is hot up here…
“I smell… parchment?” Sirius glanced around the classroom to see if there was any parchment nearby that could be interfering with the potion’s properties. There wasn’t; not even Slughorn’s prized lesson plans. He could feel the class’ eyes on him; everyone wondered what Hogwarts’ notorious playboy would smell. Everyone wondered if it would be them. “Um, it smells kind of windy, you know? Like when you’re outside and there’s wind?” James choked down a laugh. Remus looked mildly entertained. Sirius shot them a glare. His mind brought him back to last weekend, sitting in the shade of a courtyard tree as James didn’t did his Charms work, and there was some presence he couldn’t quite forget. It clung to him, like the dirt that refused to wash out of his jeans from that day.
Sirius’ eyebrows furrowed; it looked as if he was deeply concentrated. Lupin, similarly to Marlene and Dorcas, had his own suspicions. He found Sirius’ obliviousness humorous, if he was honest. “I think that’s coffee?” He tried to think of who drank coffee. Not me, I hate that stuff. Father always liked—eugh, don’t think about him right now. Prongs likes his pumpkin juice, Wormtail takes Earl Grey, and Moony likes his tea green… but I swear I saw him drinking coffee that time he was doing his Divination essay! Could it be-?
“It’s strong.” No, it can’t be Moony. He drowns his coffee in cream and sugar; how charicatistically Remus Lupin. It could never be Lily; plus, she’s never picked up a cup of coffee in her life. I’m almost completely sure Marlene and Dorcas are gay…
“It’s almost a little sweet… no, not sweet; it’s acidic. It’s like citrus… Merlin, it smells like oranges.” Sirius looked queasy and a little dazed.
“M’boy, are you alright?” Slughorn rubbed his back. Absolutely not! I am not okay. In fact, I would very much like to step out into the loo and purge my olfactory glands of this experience.
“Yes, Professor. I think, well, I just… I think I just don’t like the smell of oranges?” Sirius’ voice cracked. Holy shit, oranges? Who smells like oranges? Whoever it is, I hate them. Pshh, I’m not attracted to damn oranges. Oranges, of all fruits. They’ve got to be the worst fruit.
Slughorn laughed heartily. “Looks like we’ve got two students with a bit of a conundrum here! Okay, Mr. Black, you’re free to go.” Sirius clambered down to his friends on unsteady legs.
“Y’good there Padfoot?” James really did look concerned.
“Yeah, all good Prongs. Thanks.” James’ grin returned.
“Well, I guess that knocks out the no smell theory!” Sirius whacked him upside the head.
