April 1897
The Easter holidays had come and gone both all too quickly and far too slowly. With no classes to attend, the two week break had been spent reading books, browsing the shops in Hogsmeade village, and eating copious amounts of chocolate. Anyone would have thought that the idea of returning to a normal school routine the following morning would have cast a dark cloud over the final night of the break, but the fifth year Ravenclaws remained in high spirits. After all, the end of the holidays meant that they were closer to May, when the Celestial Ball would be taking place.
The ball was all anyone had been able to talk about since the Headmaster had made his announcement at the end-of-term feast. Héloïse was half-bored by the endless discussions of dress robes and dance cards and music and escorts. She had never enjoyed spending time in large crowds of people, and so dances and balls had never been exciting prospects to her. And yet…
Perhaps it was because she was now sixteen, no longer a mere child and only a year away from being a grown woman, but each time she heard someone mention what they were planning on wearing or who they hoped to dance with, she felt her heart lift slightly and begin to beat faster in her chest, as if it were already trying to dance. She watched boys asking girls if they might escort them to the ball with fascination, paying attention to the nervous ones’ shaking hands and hopeful eyes, and the confident ones’ polished manner of talking, and the giddy giggles of the girls and their friends after they made their responses. She had read all about the peculiar alignment of stars that the Celestial Ball celebrated, and each night had stolen away to the Astronomy tower in order to see the stars’ progression, as they crept closer and closer to the positions they would hold on the night of the ball.
She was looking forward to the Celestial Ball, really looking forward to it, and that surprised her.
With the return of the school locomotive engine earlier in the evening, the Ravenclaw common room was busier and louder than it had been in the previous two weeks, and the students who had spent the holidays at home were quickly being filled in on what they had missed during the break.
“Oh, I’m so glad that Jesse asked if he could escort you. I’d have felt so guilty being escorted if that meant leaving you to go alone. Now I can attend with William and a clear conscience!” Primrose Grey, who Héloïse had come to realise always knew everything about everyone, was telling her friend Nadia Erbland. Primrose’s blue eyes scanned the room as she continued, “I do believe that most people have arranged to be escorted by someone now. Reuben asked Leila Hellebore straight away, and I think Nolan has now asked Winona Rosewood, as well. In fact” - her eyes settled on Héloïse and her dorm mates - “I know who everyone is going with except for you three.”
Siobhan cocked an eyebrow at her. “Oh, aye?”
“Yes indeed,” said Primrose, with a nod. “So, then. Do tell. Will you all have escorts, or are you going to fill your dance cards on the night?”
“I’m leaving it to the night itself,” Gwendolyn answered. “I think it’s more exciting that way, somehow. Shiv is going to be escorted, though.”
“Who by?”
“Galen Stagg.”
“Really?”
“I don’t see why you are so surprised,” said Siobhan tersely. “Everyone and their granny knows we are friends.”
“Friends, yes, but-”
“Well, then. We shall attend the ball together, and that shall be that, and we shall hear no more on the matter.”
There was a finality to Shiv’s tone that made even Gwen raise an eyebrow and share a glance with Héloïse. Prim pursed her lips slightly, but she turned to Héloïse looking nonplussed.
“Et toi, Héloïse?”
It took Héloïse a few seconds to decide in which language she should reply to Prim’s question. Once she had opted for English, it took her another moment to pick her words.
“I am to go with no one,” she told Primrose, her voice sounding almost defeated in her ears.
“No?” Prim asked. She tilted her head, and Héloïse shook her own.
“No one is asking me.”
That was the problem, Héloïse realised. That was why she sounded and felt so disappointed. She wanted someone to ask her - she wanted Jim to ask her - but now that was seeming an increasingly less likely prospect. And even though Shiv told her that there were stil days to come before the ball, and Gwen said that he may even ask to partner with her on the night, in her heart she knew that he would not do so. There had been plenty of opportunities in which he might have asked her, and yet he had not. With the Celestial Ball now less than a week away, there was only one logical conclusion that Héloïse could draw: that he did not want to attend with her.
The very idea filled her with a deep, unshakeable sense of melancholy, one that accompanied her through the remainder of the evening, until eventually she retired from the Ravenclaw common room and escaped to her usual meditation spot in the Astronomy tower.
She had intended to rest awhile under the light of the moon and wallow in her self-pity alone, however, she soon found herself being interrupted by the sound of a throat being cleared, and an elongated shadow of a wizard appear on the ground beside her. She sat up straight, her chest lifting with her heart. Could it be…
“Jim?”
“I am afraid not,” the newcomer replied, his peculiar accent making his identity known before Héloïse turned to see his face. “Alas, you seem disappointed by the fact.”
Héloïse smiled sadly as her friend Henry Lovecraft approached and sat down beside her.
“Yes. No. I am not…” she sighed. “I do not wish to be rude. I am sorry.”
Henry shook his head. “It is no bother. What is wrong? Are you homesick?”
“No.”
“Then whatever is the matter?”
“I… It is the ball,” saiid Héloïse. “It is so close, and so many girls have been asked by boys if they can to go with them, and no one is asking to go with me.”
“No one at all?” Henry asked, one eyebrow raised as if he knew that there was only one person who mattered. Héloïse shrugged wordlessly in response. “Well, I am certain that it is not for lack of wanting.”
“But I think that it must be for this reason. What other reason would there to be?”
“What reason would there be for someone to not wish to attend a ball with you?”
“I do not know,” Héloïse said. “No. I do know. It is because I am too strange, I am thinking. Too different to others.”
Henry laughed quietly. Héloïse frowned at him.
“Quoi?”
“All people are different to others, Heloise,” Henry told her. “And yet, at the same time, we are all the same. It is a paradox, and that paradox is what makes people so very interesting. And the more different a person, the more interesting they are.” He smiled. “I would not describe you as too different, I would simply say that you are extraordinarily interesting.”
Héloïse looked up at the stars, her lips twitching slightly.
“Merci, Henri,” she half -whispered.
“It is but the truth.”
The air was still and silent for a few moments. Eventually, Héloïse turned to Henry and asked him:
“Who are you to go with to the ball?”
“I am not attending with anyone. I do not… I have no wish to attend with anyone in particular, or at all.”
“But it is so romantic, no?”
“Yes, and that is the problem. I prefer to read and observe romance, rather than to partake in it myself,” replied Henry. He sighed. “I do believe that I am rather different to others, too.”
“Perhaps you would like to go with me,” Héloïse suggested, “as my friend.”
Henry frowned. “You do not need to do that, Héloïse. There is still time for the person you…”
“No, there is not. And if I am too different for him, then I prefer to go with someone who is also different.”
“You mean interesting,” Henry corrected her, and she giggled.
“Interesting, yes. So, do you wish to go with me?”
Henry nodded, and the two of them sat together in companionable silence for only a short while before returning to Ravenclaw tower. They may both have been different to others, but their punishment would have been the same had they been caught wandering the castle at night.

Autumn 1895: Ravenclaws and Gryffindors play a friendly game together while Glenn plots on how to distract the opposing team's keeper and his rival, Nolan.
Characters featured: Nolan Miller @hogwartsmysteryho, Oliver Gerard @kc-and-co, Ethel Hexley @the-al-chemist.
Characters mentioned: Selene Fraser @lifeofkaze, Lysander Mercury @slytherindisaster, Daniel Gibson @catohphm, Siobhan Llewelyn @kc-and-co.
Warnings: mentions of Sethel
"That was a foul!"
"Not again, Miller," cried his teammate. Ravenclaw looked like they were having a tough time with their reserve keeper. Glenn minded little, except for Nolan Miller's incompetence which was getting on his nerves. He wanted a nice clean, and fair game, which shouldn't be a hard ask. Especially since Hexley and Fraser made the least amount of trouble on the quidditch field.
As all the quidditch teams have completed their tryouts and added new members to make up for the lost ones, his friend and captain, Oliver Gerard, made a deal with Ravenclaw to share the pitch for a quidditch friendly due to an accidental mishandling of the reservations. It allowed the reserves to keep up with the practice.
"He wasn't haversaking Miller. Sorry guys, let's have a rematch." The Ravenclaw captain called with the quaffle under his arm, returning it back to the referee. He was getting all the different balls back in the box before re-releasing them.
Both the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw team groaned out loud before flying back into their respective position.
"Augh! I wish Miller wouldn't spoil the game so much. He's worse than Lys and Hexley." Glenn groaned.
"Miller may be annoying but he is also their weakest link, Rosewood." Oliver flew beside him. "Besides you know how to get to him fumble better than anyone else."
"Well, he is only a reserve. It's not like he will affect the big matches."
"And so are you." Oliver retorted back, almost in a backhanded way. Glenn groaned at him before focusing back on the game.
"As much as I would love to give my sole attention on quidditch I have other duties to attend to."
"Ah yes, becoming the number one prefect that Gryffindor has ever seen. You're doing a great job at that." He teased.
"Be quiet, Gerard."
Oliver laughed before everyone was finally settled and ready to go. The referee opens the box of quaffle, bludgers and snitch, and the opposing team grabs the quaffle first.
Oliver and Glenn swerved to either side of the chaser, trying to hold her in. Hexley followed behind, blocking the other Ravenclaw chasers.
"Scatter!" Hexley yelled. Glenn took a quick glance to see why. A bludger was incoming at a rapid speed. There was no way that any beater could come in time to defend the chasers.
Glenn and Oliver abandoned the chaser. The bludger came at lightning speed before almost knocking the Ravenclaw chaser down. He dropped the quaffle just as Glenn had hoped.
Hexley was sharper and quickly swooped down to grab the quaffle before any of the Ravenclaw chasers had a chance. She shot straight towards the hoops, already crossing the midline of the pitch.
Glenn and Oliver followed quickly behind. Fraser and Daniel Gibson were in a chase below them for the snitch. Glenn was hoping they would stall a little more. It would be annoying to end the game so quickly without even putting in a score.
"Rosewood!" Hexley yelled as Glenn got close. He saw it too. Siobhan Llewelyn was ready to swing the bludger towards Hexley's broom with her stick, and he knew what she wanted to do. Oliver swooped in and blocked any other chasers interrupting her pass.
With a good throw, the quaffle landed heavily on his hand before almost dropping the ball. He groaned slightly in pain when he saw Hexley give a slight smirk.
Nolan looked ready, prepared for Glenn to come. He swerved about, trying to cover all the hoops.
"I would take a heads up if I were you," Glenn warned, but Nolan smirked.
"I'm not falling for it this time, Rosewood." He shifted lower to block the bottom hoops.
Perfect.
Glenn made his arm look like it was going to throw down, but at the last second, he made an overarm throw at the tallest loop.
Nolan swiftly moved his broom up, but it was too late. The quaffle smoothly sailed through the hoop.
"That's ten points to Gryffindor." The commentator stated.
Glenn smirked broadly at Miller. The Ravenclaw pretended not to be shocked by Glenn's tactic and muttered excuses about why it wasn't his fault.
"Well done, Rosewood." Oliver complimented. "Figure you would be able to fool Miller."
"He's a fool." He said. "Which is a shame. If his incompetnece weren't in the way the game would be more interesting."

Carnage Circus 🔥
Part 20/20 - The conclusion
Tumblr media
The end is here.
Thank you all for making this possible, for trusting me with your characters: @kc-and-co @lifeofkaze @the-al-chemist @cursebreakerfarrier @that-scouse-wizard
I can’t believe it's been more than a year since Circus was announced, but like all things, this too must end.
Shaking the cold from his bones, detective Winger walked with his head bowed, cursing under his breath as the sharp wind lashed against his face. As far as he knew the weather should have been sunny, however that morning proved to be the opposite as a dark, heavy, grey sky loamed over the city.
Stopping to get a coffee in order to warm up, his hand hovered above the door handle, eyes reading the poster in front of him. He felt as if his heart stopped for a second before it suddenly picked back up, Talbott feeling sick to his stomach.
Making his way to the station, the captain just set on the desk of his colleague a heavy dusty box “Looks like you’re in luck rookie, the Carnage Circus is back in town. Been a while since we had them in our jurisdiction.” Turning around, the captain pointed at Talbott “Winger, you go with him, help, show him the ropes. Maybe this time two heads will manage to get something out of that scum.”
Scoffing, Talbott just nodded as he marched over to his own desk, hands fumbling to light up a cigarette, lighter not producing even a flicker “Fuck.” Searching in his drawers for another, he finally managed to light it up, smoke filling the office from his desk.
Pulling out some notes his eyes landed on several names and information dotted down. Ethel and Selene left the moment they were set free, last he heard was that they were travelling, jumping from city to city and country to country as they were used to doing. They told Siobhan that way Akira could never find them, if they don’t settle, he cannot hurt them.
Siobhan on the other hand was still in the city. She found the love of her life and was working together with him, having opened up a veterinarian clinic. She was happy from what Talbott could gather, however if she ever caught a glimpse of him or anyone she knew, her face would pale and she would always look away. But who could blame her?
Reuben and Leila were also close to the city, living on the outskirts in a small home, content with their life together. She was even speaking or started to at least, that much he knew since she actually told him to “fuck off” in a not very friendly tone.
As for Talia, well most nights they spent together in the confines of his own home. She made a full recovery as far as her body was concerned, but her heart was healing still. When she did not know what to do with herself she would go and speak to Victoria and Oliver, them managing to put her back on the right path.
But Talbott knew that the moment she saw the posters plastered all across the city, it would be chaos and fear would bloom inside of her heart like a disease that decided to rear its ugly head after such a long time.
Just like years prior, Talbott made his way to the circus grounds at night, his colleague shuddering as the winds blew past them, the ticket booth screeching at them, the voice even more distorted than Talbott remembered.
The grounds were filled to the brim, despite the weather, main tent illuminated, peering through the thick fog, music playing from within it as Akira’s voice boomed, announcing the beginning of the show. Closing his eyes, Talbott took a deep breath as he walked inside, dust rising as a new act started under the cheerful applause of the crowd. The acts have changed, new faces smiling back at the crowd of people, but the detective knew the price that came with joining the circus.
It was all an act, hiding behind it a gruesome curse.
They patiently waited for the show to end and people to start leaving the tent before Talbott and his partner for the night approached the heavy curtains leading back stage “Listen to me” he stopped him from advancing, Talbott facing him “he’s very guarded, odd. You need to be careful alright?”
“Please, he’s just a man. They all crack eventually and if he’s responsible for those murders and people disappearing, then we will get him.” Puffing his chest, he walked past Talbott, hands moving aside the curtains. A gush of hot air rushed over their bodies, whispers being heard despite no one being in sight “Akira Crane, this is the police. We need a word.”
Shyly, a member from the team showed herself from behind some boxes “The director is busy. He must never be disturbed. You need to leave.”
“Not going to happen mam. Where can we find him?”
The girl shook her head, blonde locks falling in her face and Talbott recognized her from the poster as being the other half of the brand new trapeze act “Come on, I know where his changing room is. There’s no need to bother her.”
Walking ahead, Talbott felt as if it he could barely breathe, the air thin and far too hot. The corridor leading to Akira appeared to narrow down, shadows as if dancing around them, a low growl reaching their ears before they knocked on the door.
“You brought a friend.” They heard from inside the room, Talbott turning the handle. The setting was as he knew, him going to sit down on the couch, letting his partner take the lead “And somehow with two, the questions are just as boring.” Akira looked around, eyes dramatically rolling “I would have expected, all things considering, that this time you would…” he suddenly stopped, springing to his feet, eyes searching around, chest heaving.
“Akira?” Talbott leaned in closer, his partner basically having jumped back out of fright.
Letting out a shaky exhale, Akira shook his head, trying to gather himself “It would appear the last days spent preparing have been far too tiresome, haven’t slept you see. I don’t have time for the same line of questioning detectives. You know the drill, I’m here for an entire week and I know you’ll be returning.”
Watching him walk outside, Talbott’s brows rose. Something was off, way off, he could feel it. The sudden shift he could never deny his gut feelings. Something was about to happen. Or was already happening inside the circus and that’s why Akira suddenly reacted.
His eyes widened, Talbott also getting up “No, no.”
Running outside, his partner hot on his heels asking a million questions, the detective could not deny what was happening. The air was warmer, lights brighter, atmosphere a tad less creepy, even the fog lifting slightly. She wouldn’t. No. But it was the only scenario that made sense. The key was still out there and Akira was still in tune with her. Even if she was free from his clutches.
“We need to go, if you see Talia Crane let me know.”
“What? Why would she be here? Isn’t Akira the one that put her in the hospital? By the way isn’t it odd that she didn’t press charges?”
Sighing, he had hoped for once in his life that the new recruit wasn’t actually trying to make a name for himself “Look, I’ll explain later. If we find her, we find him. She’s like a magnet for Akira.”
And how right detective Winger was. Akira knew exactly where to go, Talia waiting for him at the camping area, the current squad not knowing how to deal with the stranger before their eyes. She asked questions, if they were treated right, if he was being mean or cruel to them.
Walking slowly towards her, she turned to look at him, a smile directed his way, his name leaving her lips “Leave us.” He ordered the crew, who shared confused looks between themselves, however still obeyed his command.
Walking in front of her, he removed his gloves, extending a hand out to her, Talia’s palm grazing his, a kiss being placed to the back of her hand, eyes never leaving hers “I wouldn’t have expected to see you again in this lifetime.”
“Truth be told, I did consider it. You have kept me under the veil of your darkness for so long.”
“You know why.”
Nodding her head, her eyes closed for a moment “I do now. But I hated you so much.”
Upon hearing her name being uttered, she opened her eyes to witness Talbott and a stranger running towards them. Stepping between them, Talbott stared Akira down “Never again.”
“What is going on Winger?” his partner demanded answers, Akira chuckling.
“I can’t force her to rejoin me. It needs to happen out of her own accord if she wishes to.” He tried to glance at her, however Talbott didn’t let him, instead pushing Akira a step back for good measure.
“She will never come back to you. You’ve done enough.”
Darkness swarmed them, Akira’s glare vicious “I’ve never hurt her.” The temperature appeared to suddenly drop a few degrees, the circus reacting to the director’s rage “I still won’t.”
Directing Talia towards his partner, Talbott refused to let Akira take even a single step “You forge destinies on blood and when you’re done with them, you dispose of them too. Don’t you?”
Akira scoffed, shaking his head “You still don’t understand, how can you?”
“He can’t.” Talbott and Akira turned towards Talia “Not yet at least.” Finding she managed to take the gun off Talbott’s colleague and was directing it at him “Don’t move, none of you.”
“Talia? What are you doing?” Talbott asked, trying to approach, stopping when she shook her head.
Her forehead creased, hand slightly shaking “As long as I am alive, I am linked to him. So that means I am never truly free, am I?” her eyes travelled to the gun, directing it at her own head, her taking a step back to create some distance “I can end it, tonight, pull the trigger and get it over with.”
“Please don’t do anything stupid.”
“Shut up detective. I can’t think with you talking constantly.” Her eyes travelled from Talbott towards Akira, who just shook his head “You know right? You feel it. What does it feel like?”
“Like you’re splitting me in two.” Akira replied his voice shaking.
“Mam, put the gun down and let’s talk about this.”
“Shut up!” Looking back at Talbott, Talia exhaled “You wanted to understand why some days are bad? It’s because I still feel the connection and it’s like it never went away despite being free. It tears you apart and you can’t replace the emptiness with anything. And I kept asking myself why? What’s the reason. But deep down I knew. Oh how I knew and refused to believe it.” The fog started covering the terrain more and more, winds stopping for a second, a sudden uninvited calm, Talia gripping the handle of the gun, trembling in her limbs subsiding “A life for a life detective. I hereby free Akira Crane and nominate Talbott Winger as the director of Carnage Circus.”
Turning the gun on Talbott’s colleague, she pulled the trigger, the sound of it drowned out by the fireworks illuminating the sky.  Akira’s caravan crumbled to dust before them, blood painting the earth as Talia dropped the gun from her hand.
The darkness travelled towards Talbott, leaving Akira entirely, the detective feeling as if the weight of the world landed on his shoulder, crushing him under its weight “You don’t love him.” Knowledge that was not there previously suddenly latching onto every part of his mind, history not his own becoming a part of him.
“Don’t I?” taking a small bow, Talia looked him dead in the eye “It’s your turn. You will need to find your key, set them all free and end it. End it all. The last time, the last curse. Free yourself, free them all.”
Turning towards Akira, she extended her hand out to him, him taking it as they both walked away. Taking the gun, Talbott aimed it at Talia, her turning around to look at him, a smile on her lips “You can’t hurt me or him. We’re free director Winger.”
“What if you are my key?”
Glaring at him, Akira spoke “Even if you think it, want it, she was never yours to begin with.”
Inside the fortune teller’s tent, Orion welcomed his latest customers, a smile shaping his lips as he stared inside the crystal ball.
“I see you are happy with the outcome.” Victoria smiled, taking out a random card from the desk, Oliver sitting beside her.
Lifting his eyes, Orion nodded “As are you, only you knew how she could free Akira. Tell me how did you convince her?”
Putting the card back, she shrug her shoulders “I didn’t, she asked, she wanted this. It was there, despite what we did.”
Flipping the card around, Orion hummed in response “I have all but forgotten she drew another card.” The lovers being set between them.
Glancing at them, Oliver shook his head with a chuckle “What now?”
Peering inside the crystal ball, Orion smiled “Now we do it all over again, but this time is the last one.” His brows drew together as he looked over at Oliver “Please don’t intervene again, once is enough too many. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go help the new director.”

Happy FFWF! Any headcanons for Danny’s relationship with either Galen or Teddy (or both!) ?
Happy FFWF to you too Sky! Here’s a small handful of HCs for Danny and your two dear Gryffindor kids!
-Danny’s desire to visit the American southwest is partially inspired by his conversations with Galen and Shiv @kc-and-co. Talking with them, he sometimes gets emotional because of his longing to see nature’s artwork.
-Between Teddy and Danny, they have a quidditch rivalry as they are in different houses. At the very beginning, Danny was reluctant at the thought. Soon though, it became just business as usual for him and his family. He accepts that only natural rivalries crop up. There is no quidditch without them.
-As an auror, Danny usually partners up with his best friend Roxie @beloved-bucky. When this isn’t possible, he usually works with Teddy.
-While working together, the two tend to exchange snide, but witty jokes because of the rivalry they used to have. They make Danny miss his time at Hogwarts. Life was much simpler and vibed with appreciation.
-Danny exchanges letters with Galen and Shiv when the couple travels around the world. He is also allowed to visit their dragon sanctuaries and reserves to rest while working overseas.

June 1896
A shadow appeared in the enchanted ceiling of the Great Hall, far above Héloïse’s head. She looked up over the edge of her bowl of hot chocolate as she watched it grow closer.
“What is that?” asked Gwen, also watching the object traverse the sky. Héloïse swallowed.
“That is my grandmother,” she said, recognising the shape of the carriage and winged horses.
The school year had ended, and this morning, the students of Hogwarts school were going home for the summer. Most of them, Héloïse had learned, would be taking the school’s locomotive back to London, but many parents and guardians had arranged their own transportation, Héloïse’s grandmother among them.
When the Ravenclaw girls stepped outside, Héloïse was surprised to see that her grandmother’s was not the only winged horse-drawn carriage present on the grounds; the school had provided several others that had already started to transport students down to the village train station. But while the horses of Héloïse’s grandmother were dappled snowy grey with black manes, the Hogwarts horses were black from nose to tail, and almost skeletal in appearance. There was something about them that made Héloïse feel almost wary.
“Don’t you fret, Matilda,” said Siobhan, looking from Héloïse to the horses and back again. “They’re only Thestrals, they won’t hurt you.”
She and Gwen hugged Héloïse as a means of bidding her farewell, and both boarded one of the carriages along with Henry Lovecraft, her friend from the year above. Henry tipped his hat at Héloïse and she smiled back at him, before the carriage jolted into action, carrying Héloïse’s friends away from her and the castle behind her.
A small hand tugged at the hem of Héloïse’s robe, and she turned to see one of her grandmother’s house-elves at her side.
“Mademoiselle Héloïse, vous devez venir vite,” the house-elf told her in his high-pitched voice. “Votre grand-mère-”
“Alors, je viens,” Héloïse assured the house-elf, and she made to follow him, but she stopped when she saw a familiar face in the crowd of students climbing aboard the Hogwarts carriages. “Attends un moment.”
Héloïse ran back into the crowd, the house-elf calling after her. She paid him no attention.
“Jim!” she called out, and Jim paused as he went to step up into the carriage. He looked at her, and waved his friend ahead of him.
“Héloïse,” he said. “I thought that… Will you be taking the locomotive after all?”
“No, my grandmother, she is here,” she told him, nodding her head in the direction of her grandmother’s carriage. “I am coming to say goodbye. Now I must to go back to France.”
Jim’s face fell. “For good?”
“Well, I am hoping that it is not for bad.”
“No. No, I… ‘For good’, it means the same as ‘forever’.”
“Oh,” said Héloïse. “In this case, no. Not for good. I am coming back at the end of the summer.”
“Good. That’s good,” Jim nodded. “So, it is not really goodbye.”
“It is not?”
“No. Well, not exactly. Because we will see each other again then. I hope.”
“I am hoping, also,” Héloïse frowned. “Jim, if it is not goodbye that we say, what is it that we say?”
“I… I am not sure, actually. Um, until we meet again, I suppose. What would you say in French?”
“Au revoir.”
“Does that not mean goodbye?”
“Yes, but also no. It is… ‘until the seeing again’,” Héloïse told Jim, who nodded and cleared his throat.
“That… Well, that is just right,” he said. “Au revoir, Héloïse.”
“Au revoir, Jim.”
Both were quiet for a few moments.
“Well, I suppose that I had… That is to say, the train-”
“Jim.”
“Yes?”
“I do not have English books in France,” said Héloïse, pulling a scroll of parchment from her pocket. “I will not to be able to practise my reading, unless I have people to write to me. I am thinking that you might like to write to me.”
“Yes, I might like it. I mean, I would like it, very much so.”
“And I can to write to you, also?”
“Please do.”
“Héloïse Perrault! Qu’est-ce que tu fais?”
At the sound of her grandmother’s voice, Héloïse flinched. She shrugged to Jim by way of apology, and passed him the scroll of parchment, her fingers brushing against his as it changed hands between them.
“Héloïse. Viens vite!”
Jim said nothing, but he smiled at Héloïse, and she ran back to her grandmother without another word, climbing into the carriage beside her.
“Alors,” said her grandmother, as the carriage rose up from the ground. “Poulard. Était-il aussi mauvais que tu le pensais?”
Héloïse shook her head. No, Hogwarts had not been nearly as bad as she had thought. In fact, there had been some parts of it that had not been bad at all.
She turned and looked out of the window at the castle growing smaller as the carriage flew away, and she pressed her head to the glass, just as she had on her way there back at the start of the year. Before her grandmother could tell her to sit up straight, she whispered two words to the castle, her breath fogging up the glass as she did so.
“Au revoir.”
Héloïse smiled to herself. It was not really goodbye, after all.

25. Feeding each other food for Ru and Estrid 😊
25. Feeding each other food (Rustrid)
featuring Estrid Soelberg @thatravenpuffwitch, Galen Stagg @cursebreakerfarrier and Siobhan Llewelyn @kc-and-co💛
If one were to ask a magizoologist what best to feed a kelpie, most would answer that they're omnivores that will eat just about anything, but are very fond of fish, which is one of the two main things they hunt (the other being humans, which obviously is not a good idea to feed any kelpie you plan on domesticating).
If you were to have consulted Galen Stagg in the later years of his life, however, he would probably have smiled fully and immediately suggest apples. And the reason for the wistful, amused grin on his face would be the memory of his good friend Ru stealing apple pie right off of Estrid's fork one day at dinner one night.
"Ru!" Estrid said, startled. "That's mine."
Ru smirked.
"Didn't see your name on it," they said through the big mouthful of food.
"It was bound to happen, with you leaving it out there on your fork like that, Estrid," Siobhan said amusedly.
Galen gave a quiet laugh despite himself. "Hungry animals always pilfer food, when you get distracted."
"I was trying to listen to what you were saying," Estrid huffed.
She tried to scowl, but it was a bit hard, given how big her smile was. Ru was grinning more fully than ever as they lounged across the bench next to Estrid, their arm flopping down on the table as they propped their head up on their hand. They smacked their lips in a rather loud, uncouth kind of way.
"Mm...this is good," Ru said with interest. "Is that apple?"
"Yes," said Estrid.
"Have you never had apple pie before, Ru?" said Siobhan, surprised.
Ru's electric blue eyes flitted up to Siobhan quickly. Estrid could practically feel the pause they took before responding.
"...Well, the folks don't exactly bake a lot," they said gruffly. "Don't really spoil us much either, aside from stuffy dress robes and uncomfortable shoes."
Estrid knew this was a lie of sorts, given the real reason Ru had never had apple pie would've been because apple pie isn't something you can hunt inside or around the Black Lake...but, at the same time, it probably wasn't a complete lie, all the same. The Ollivanders had always been a rather distant and formal to the point of neglect sort of family, and they'd never really paid their youngest child much mind, either before or after Ru took the real Rudolph's place.
Galen smiled. "Well, this pie is a very good one. The elves really have outdone themselves with it."
Ru eyed the remainder of the piece of pie on Estrid's plate with interest. "Hm, yeah..."
Within a moment, they'd reached into their robes and pulled their box camera out of the inside pocket. They then immediately brought up in front of their right eye, peeking through it at Estrid's plate with single-minded focus.
"Ru," Estrid couldn't help but sigh even as her smile grew wider still, "are you seriously taking a picture of my pie?"
"It's a pie worth remembering," Ru said haughtily.
They frowned deeply as they set about trying to find the right angle, craning their neck and moving from the bench to down to the floor and back.
"Bloody lighting," they muttered more irritably. "If only the ceiling wasn't overcast -- some sun would do these shadows some good..."
They were so focused on what they were doing that they didn't even notice the fork right beside their mouth until Estrid lightly tapped their cheek with it. Ru opened their left eye and was startled to see another piece of apple pie skewered on the end of it and Estrid smiling fully.
"Galen thinks you should be eating dinner, not playing with it," she said airily.
She glanced significantly at Galen, who blushed a rosy pink as he brought his hand away from the apple pie tin that he'd slid across the table to sit in front of Ru. Siobhan was laughing.
Ru cocked their eyebrows very coolly at Estrid. Then, very slowly and pointedly, and while keeping eye contact with her the entire time, the kelpie leaned in and brought the fork into their mouth, sliding the pie off the prongs into their mouth and eating it. Once they'd swallowed the pie, they smacked their lips, smirking fully.
"...I can multitask," Ru said just as coolly in return.
Finally, breaking eye contact with Estrid at last, they then whipped back around to look through their camera at her pie. Estrid bowed her head, unable to bite back a laugh herself.
"So am I just not going to get my pie back?" she asked amusedly.
"Not until I'm happy with the shot," Ru shot back mischievously. After a moment, they added, "I'll, uh...take another piece, though -- if you and Galen are really so determined to make me eat while I work."
Estrid shook her head, but she smiled all the same as she cut Ru another piece of pie, skewered it with her fork, and offered it to them. Only once Ru had found a good resting position for their camera so that it wouldn't move when they looked up did they shift over enough to once again nip it off Estrid's fork and eat it, licking and smacking their lips happily, before looking back through the viewfinder.
"You do realize everyone's going to think you two are going steady all the more, after this," Siobhan teased them.
"Shut it," both Ru and Estrid said dully.

Katriona & Marty
And/Or
Siobhan & Nolan
thank you!!!!!!
when marty challenged murphy to a chess match, he recruited katronia as his coach. katronia put him through chess bootcamp, with strategic breakdowns, speed runs, playbooks, and pop quizzes all serving as his training. although marty improved vastly through the katronia bootcamp, it was still not enough to beat murphy in the end. katronia got him a pair of chess socks as a consolation, and marty gave her a #1 coach mug as a thank you
nolan and siobhan aggressively recommend books to each other. like they make it into a competition of who can give the other a better recommendation. nolan genuinely gets angry when he likes a book loaned to him by siobhan, and vice versa. one time nolan tried to mansplain dragonology to siobhan. let’s just say that he won’t be trying that again in any lifetime

Harry Potter Hogwarts Legacy Appreciation Week - Day 4: Favorite Ships by Moots
Hey guys! This is the fourth entry for @endlessly-cursed’s fantastic HPHL Appreciation Week. Today the focus is on other people’s ships! Y’all have made some wonderful couples and friend groups/duos! There are so many of them that again it is a challenge to narrow down which ones will be featured for the post. Anyway here goes:
Tedelia - Adelia Selwyn @thatravenpuffwitch and @cursebreakerfarrier
Slytherin and Gryffindor in love and getting along like peas and carrots? It’s hard to believe for the common student but if the passion is there it is going to happen. Dear Addy is far from the stereotype of her house and she is so wonderful and compassionate! Teddy and his dormmates are a group of chaotic Gryffindors but they love their gals all the same. Together he and Addy have built a beautiful family with three great kiddos. Danny is a frequent visitor to the Selwyn-Ellison household and he loves Teddy, Addy and their kids so much!! He considers the kids part of his found family just as much as their parents, they’re like nephews and nieces to him and he tries to find them great gifts for their birthdays and Christmas celebrations. Danny has always been close with Teddy and Adelia - he and Teddy are colleagues as aurors and he stops by to see Adelia frequently while working in France. The role that Tedelia has in Danny’s life is why it is number one on this list!
Roxariel - Gabriel Sapieha @slytherindisaster and Roxie Haley @beloved-bucky
This wholesome ship reaches number two spot by a close margin to Tedelia. I cannot decide which should be number two because its more like that it and Tedelia hold equal places in my book. Still this ship is one of my favorites because the gal in here is Danny’s sister figure and best friend Roxie! Gabriel is also a dear friend to him! He is protective of Danny and cares a lot for his well-being, where to he would put himself in harm’s way to keep him safe. The dynamic for Roxariel is unique - I just love how Gabriel and Roxie are still able to love each other so much even though she is a vampire. In a time where racism and supremacy still dominate the wizarding world, this couple can be an example of how minorities can still achieve successful and fulfilling lives just like regular people. Danny is also very grateful to have Gabriel and Roxie in his life and they’re very dear to him - his life would never be complete in their absence.
Galehan - Siobhan Llewelyn @kc-and-co and Galen Stagg @cursebreakerfarrier
Two sweethearts that have it all. Their story is about living life to the fullest. Bonding over a love of magizoology and outdoorsy-ness, Bon-bon and Galen live a very unique and epic lifestyle with many connections around the world. They look over many creature reserves in several countries - one of which is located in the U.S. state of Arizona. Danny vibes with the couple over their appreciation and reverence of the outdoors, reminding him of the better angels of his old home far away. He loves Bon-bon so much and they’ve been best buddies since their Hogwarts days. Galen is such a sweet and soft boy with great compassion and acceptance for minority groups which Danny really appreciates! When working in America he often stays at one of the reserves under the care of Shiv and Galen and is always happy to see them and hear about their latest adventures!
Reubeila - Leila Hellebore @whatwouldvalerydo and Reuben Willows @that-scouse-wizard
While I don’t bring up this ship much it still deserves recognition. Like Roxariel, this ship is another great example of how normally disadvantaged groups in wizarding society are still capable of having romantic feelings, falling in love, getting married and raising a family! Reuben is an awesome quidditch mate of Danny and Leila is a Slytherin lady with demon heritage. Like him they’re both are the type that may seem intimating on the outside but on the inside they’re just amazing friends who do great things for those they know and do their best to give back!
