@badcompanys sent 🤝x 10 to introduce more of my npcs!
npc meme: not accepting!
Tumblr media
reese dunn ( michael goorjian ) - best friend and roommate of corbin bailey. a hopeless romantic with a heart of gold but a mean streak and a quick temper. passionately shares the same punk, anarchist views as corbin. can often be found at rallies and protests, where he’s never afraid to throw the first stone  - or punch - for what he believes in.
zachary ‘zack’ marshall ( landon liboiron ) - an outcast in the town of greymire - which never bodes well. accused of assaulting a rich woman he’d never even seen before, zack was brought into the woods and dropped in front of walker bishop. as he pleaded for his life, walker realized there might be more to the story than seen. also accused of crimes he didn’t commit, walker sympathized and offered to help instead of harm.
mathilda ‘mattie’ reynolds ( lily tomlin ) - the eccentric aunt to mitchell nelson. mattie started the diy craft store scissor me timbers in the late 80′s and operated it for nearly thirty years before deciding to retire to florida with her wife, sylvie reynolds, and pass her beloved store on to her favorite (and only) nephew. she’s an outgoing, bubbly soul still stuck in her hippie days and never planning on growing out of them.
byron ‘ronnie’ parker ( norman reedus ) - single father to gus parker. owns a mechanic shop. has raised gus by himself since he was born after gus’ mom decided she wasn’t ready to have a kid and left. patient and kind but also the strong, silent type - like gus.
renee mckree ( winona ryder ) - biological mother to gus parker and ryder mckree. got pregnant right out of high school. when she told her parents, they threatened to disown her and refused to help her through college. she made the decision to walk away from ronnie and gus, knowing she wasn’t ready to be a mother yet. she kept tabs on the pair of the years and has recently decided that she wants to have a relationship with gus and is adamant about making amends.
mason snyder ( owen teague ) - best friend of ryder mckree. mason and ryder are a classic case of nature vs. nurture. mason grew up in an abusive household and took his anger out on those around him at school. from a young age, he bullied, pushed around and yelled at his peers. it was all he’d ever known. watching mason torment their classmates, ryder knew immediately that he would rather be the bully than the victim to mason’s cruelty. he befriended mason in kindergarten and after seeing firsthand what mason went through at home, ryder and his parents have been like a second family to mason.
note: putting these last few under a cut for various trigger warnings!
lorenzo benoist ( mads mikkelson ) - best friend and brother in law to charlie harris. at fourteen years old, lorenzo found charlie’s father, henrik, dismembering a body in the harris family basement. instead of being scared and running, curiosity overtook lorenzo and forever warped his fragile mind. in henrik’s eyes, lorenzo was the son he deserved. he had tried everything to mold charlie in his own image but it was lorenzo who had finally seen - and accepted - him for who he was. after henrik’s execution, lorenzo took over his mantle and continued to push charlie to become the killer his dad had always wanted him to be.
rose ferguson ( sadie sink ) - late sister of sienna ferguson. doomed from birth by bad genetics. she never let on that she was struggling with her mental health, never asked for help. she was loving, compassionate and wanted to be a nurse to help others - a career path that sienna has since started down in honor of her sister. her death is still fresh in the minds of sienna and clancy.
clancy ferguson ( michael fassbender ) - dad to sienna ferguson. never fully recovered from the death of his wife. to have his youngest daughter leave the world in the same way was devastating to him. contrary to what sienna believes, he does love her - he simply has trouble communicating it and is secretly terrified that she will leave him the same way the others did. she mistakes his withdrawal for detest.
ruby ferguson ( christina hendrix ) - the late mother of sienna ferguson. after a long battle with bipolar depression, ruby lost the fight when sienna was seven and rose was a newborn. she left behind a husband who never moved on and two daughters who both inherited the same mental fragility. while she was alive, she was creative, artistic and passionate - all traits that sienna has also picked up.

Changes - Single Dad!Charlie x Owen (Part 13: the unfinished chapters)
part 13 but unfinished :)
“I think we need to talk.” The words sent a cold shiver down Charlie’s spine, and any excitement to see Owen and fall back into their newfound routine disappeared, replaced with anxious butterflies.
“Owen...” He started, but Owen shook his head.
“Not here. Let’s take everything inside first.” He said.
They worked in silence, Charlie too anxious about the conversation that was to come to speak. Was Owen about to break up with him? What would they tell Margaux? How would she cope with losing her Papa? Would Owen try to get visitation time with her? What if they ended up in court over her?
“Char.” Owen’s voice cut off his rapidly spiraling thoughts, and Charlie realised they were sat at the kitchen table, the food spread out for the two of them to eat.
“Sorry was just-” Charlie started, but Owen cut him off.
“Spiraling, I know. Don’t stress, okay?” Owen smiled, placing a hand on Charlie’s knee. Charlie glanced around the room, Margaux’s absence finally registering to him. He opened his mouth to ask where she was but Owen beat him to it.
“She’s in the lounge room watching a movie, I figured it would keep her distracted while we talked.” He explained. Charlie nodded, biting his lip.
“Are you breaking up with me?” He blurted out. Owen choked on a chicken nugget.
“What? No, of course not. Why would you even think that?” He questioned once he had finally calmed down.
“You said we had to talk...” Charlie trailed off.
“Oh and you thought... god Charlie, no. I’m not breaking up with you.” Owen reassured him, leaning in to kiss Charlie’s cheek gently.
“Good, cause I don’t want you to.” Charlie mumbled. Owen squeezed his hand, pausing for a moment.
“Promise me, whatever I say you won’t freak out.” He said softly.
“You’re scaring me.” Charlie frowned, heart racing.
“Promise me.” Owen insisted.
“I promise.” Charlie agreed.
Owen took a deep breath.
“I want to move here, with you and Maggie.” Owen said, and Charlie’s eyes widened.
“You do?” He grinned excitedly. Owen nodded.
“I’ve been thinking about it a lot and I don’t think I can leave you. The last few weeks have been incredible, and I can’t see myself wanting to leave any time soon.”
“What about your place in Oklahoma?” Charlie asked. Owen shrugged.
“I was thinking I’d keep it, maybe lock off Maggie’s room and rent it out to people who need a temporary place to stay. Or my mum said she’d be happy to maintain it so that we could go there any time we wanted, I know she’d love seeing you and Mags more often.” He suggested.
“You really want this?” Charlie questioned. Owen nodded.
“I do.”
“Okay, let’s do it.” Charlie agreed.
Owen grinned, launching himself into Charlie’s arms, and Charlie caught him, giggling.
“We’re gonna live together again!” Owen laughed.
Their lips met in a passionate kiss, both excited for what the future held for them.
And in that moment all that mattered was each other.
“I organised for us to meet Cheyenne and the twins at the beach.” Owen informed him later, as the three of them lounged on the couch watching some show about giraffes that had Margaux hooked.
“That sounds great, when?” Charlie replied.
“Tomorrow at lunch time. He said we could get food and then the kids could run around and play for a bit.” Owen recited.
“Look at you being all dad-like, setting up play dates.” Charlie teased. Owen grinned, his eyes flicking to Margaux, a thoughtful look appearing on his face.
“You know, Cheyenne said something to me last week. He said that Margaux having blonde hair makes her look more like my daughter.” He relayed.
“I love that.” Charlie grinned. “It’s totally true.”
“I always thought about having my own kids running around, heads full of blonde hair, and now I guess I have that.” Owen smiled softly, poking at Margaux who flicked his hand away in annoyance.
“You do. Although we should probably just have another one to make sure.” Charlie joked.
“You want more kids? With me?” Owen questioned. Charlie nodded.
“Obviously.”
“Shut up.” Margaux glared. “I’m watching a show and you’re being too loud.”
“Sorry.” Owen said, lowering his voice as Charlie shook his head in amusement. “Okay, let’s do it.”
“Right now? I’m kinda invested in whether the giraffe finds her mother.” Charlie teased.
“Her daddy.” Margaux corrected, rolling her eyes.
“Sounds like you’re not as invested as you claim to be.” Owen raised an eyebrow.
“Fuck off.” Charlie laughed, shoving Owen gently. “Although on the topic of kids we should probably chat later after b-e-d-t-i-m-e.”
“Uh oh.” Owen frowned.
“Nothing bad. Just a conversation that was had that you need to hear about.” Charlie said...
-
“So, what was it we needed to talk about?” Owen questioned the second that Charlie climbed into bed next to him.
“Well, I was asked an amazing question yesterday.” Charlie sung.
“Oh yeah?” Owen raised an eyebrow.
“Hmm. Where do babies come from.” Charlie grinned. Owen’s face fell.
“Oh no.”
“Yep.” Charlie laughed. “She wanted to know so that you and I could get her a baby sibling to play with.”
“What did you say to that?” Owen questioned.
“Well I told her that babies are made, not gotten from a store, which was probably a bad idea cause she then wanted to know how they were made. And I wasn’t about to have the sex talk with our four year old, so I just told her that when people love each other sometimes they’ll make one, and she asked me if I loved you and I said yes and she said we should make one.” Charlie explained, and Owen laughed.
“Didn’t feel like explaining to her that we can’t?” He said, eyebrow raised.
“Nope, dodged the bullet. Although we did discuss Jane.” Charlie added.
“Really?” Owen’s eyes were wide. Charlie nodded.
“She asked if I loved Jane, I told her the truth, that I loved her until she didn’t love us anymore.” He shrugged.
They fell into a comfortable silence for a few minutes, before Owen spoke up, breaking the silence.
“You know, I meant it when I said I wouldn’t mind if we had another kid.” He said. Charlie hummed in acknowledgement.
“You realise neither of us have the equipment for that, right?” He checked, and Owen nodded.
“We could adopt? Or have a surrogate.” He suggested.
“You know it’s a big step.” Charlie bit his lip.
“Yeah I know. And I know having another kid on top of Maggie will be difficult. But if we’re gonna be living together and I know you’ve been talking about moving into a bigger place...” Owen trailed off.
“Are you sure about this? Like 100% sure cause this is gonna be the biggest step we’ve ever taken, and technically we’ve only been dating for a few months.” Charlie checked, and Owen nodded.
“I’ve never been more certain in my life.” He grinned. “Plus it feels like we’ve been together forever.”
“It really does.” Charlie agreed.
A comfortable silence filled the room.
“We’ll talk about this when we’re a bit more awake?” Charlie suggested, snuggling into Owen’s side. Owen hummed in agreement, his eyes already shut.
“Please. I can’t wait to have a baby with you.”

Mommy will you marry Charlie? (Charlie Gillespie x Fictional Character)
Warnings: mention of teenage pregnancy A/N: I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of love “Mommy can we keep him” received. I was originally going to upload the proposal AND the wedding, but I’ve been struggling a bit with the wedding portion. I hope you enjoy the proposal! Disclaimer: This is a FICITONAL writing piece! In no way do I claim characters in this piece act this way in real life.
Masterlist *now taking requests ;)
Mommy will you marry Charlie?
“Hey! Are you ready to go?” Charlie knocked and popped his head into Riley’s ensuite, pausing to take in her beauty. She was dressed in a pretty summer dress and placed a few more bobby pins into her hair, smiling at him in the mirror.
“Just about. Are Owen and Savannah here?” Riley’s answer came at that moment when the doorbell rang. Charlie left the ensuite and headed for the door just as Emerson got to it.
“Emmy, what did we say about answering the door?” Charlie chastised, moving quicker to the door. Emerson slightly pouted knowing he was right and sat on the entryway bench, waiting for Charlie to open the door. “You guys are just in time!” “No thanks to Owen” Savannah scoffed, motioning to the giant behind her.
“I hadn’t eaten yet, I needed My Chick-fil-A, but then I forgot to order some for Emmy, so we had to go back through the drive through” he sighed, showing him the two bags of take out in his hands. “Where is the little stinker?”
“I’m not stinky! I took a bath!” she hopped on the entryway bench and into Savannah’s arms first, Owen dramatically displayed his offense to the toddler.
“How come she gets a hug first?! I brought you Chicken Strips!” Savannah picked her up and balanced her on her hip. “I even convinced the lady to give you two books!”
“Aunty Savannah didn’t call me stinky and knows that I ate supper before you came.” she giggled and shook her head. “Plus, I like the chicken nuggets and not the strips” Owen rolled his eyes and muttered a ‘oh come on’ under his breath, but as soon as Savannah put her down, Emerson gave Owen’s leg a hug.
Riley came to the front door and greeted her friends, thanking them again for being so willing to babysit while they went out for the evening. After Charlie and Emerson’s date, the couple decided that they would go on more family dates as a request from the little girl and Charlie. Riley didn’t think anything of it, but she certainly didn’t want to come between the relationship they were both developing. This was the first time Emerson ever really accepted another man into their lives.
At the young age of 18 and saving enough money, Riley moved out of her mother’s home in Chino Hills to a one bedroom, one bath in downtown LA that was closer to her office. Riley was grateful that her mom agreed to come over to their apartment to babysit Emerson while she was at work as it helped her to save up more money to eventually move into a chic modern home on the outskirts of downtown. She was always so focused on providing for Emerson that she rarely let anyone into her life and when she did, she always had to make sure that they got the seal of approval from Emerson.
There was Nick from the marketing department at Netflix who she thought was cute, but he wasn’t very open to the idea of potentially becoming a dad so early on. Emerson really didn’t like him as she would cry every time he looked at her or moved towards her. That didn’t last more than three weeks.
Then there was Jaime from the grocery store who loved children and really liked Riley, but Emerson didn’t like the fact that Riley made more money than Jaime and warned her mom several times about him, despite her young age. Riley learned her lesson that sometimes four year olds are very perceptive because Jaime asked to borrow money for his rent a month later.
Lastly, there was Greg, a single dad who had twins the same age as Emerson. That didn’t last because the kids would often fight. Emerson thought the children were dumb and immature, while the twins thought Emerson was acting like a weird grown up.
Riley always prioritized Emerson in any decision making process she had, but at her core she felt lonely. She couldn’t tell her daughter this despite her intelligence. She was still a child. What kind of a mother would she be if she vented to her child? But Emerson knew her mom was lonely. She often heard her crying in the pantry and quietly talking on the phone late at night. That’s why when Charlie walked in their lives, she knew she had to play nice for a little while for the sake of her mother. Neither girls expected that Charlie would become such an important piece of their lives.
“Emerson we will be back past your bedtime, so give me kisses now” Riley requested as she hugged her little girl and peppered her with kisses. She giggled and kissed her mother back until she let go. Instinctively, Charlie knelt down too and opened his arms, giving her a quick peck on the head. Emerson gave him a hug back and kissed him on the cheek, the gesture garnering a loud “aw” from Owen, as the girls silently admired the interaction. Charlie rolled his eyes and whispered to Emerson quickly, making her giggle as his breath tickled her ear and neck.
“You guys should get going so we can start painting Uncle Owen’s nails!” Savannah interrupted, glancing at the time on her phone. “We also get to facetime Uncle Jeremy, Aunty Carolyn and Aunty Madison too!” Emerson got super excited and skipped to her bedroom to grab her “nail kit”, a toy Savannah had bought her last Christmas. With a laugh, the couple headed out the door and off to supper.
As soon as the door closed, the two friends and Emerson got to work. They were in on the plan and set about decorating their house. Emerson and Charlie had gone to PartyCity a few days ago while Riley was at an executive meeting and picked out a bunch of decorations for his proposal. At first, Charlie was hesitant, but Emerson was absolutely sure her mother said yes. Knowing his past of always being proven wrong by Emerson, he decided to listen to the little girl and follow her lead.
“Remember, mommy had me when she was a kid so she missed out on kid things. Do a bunch of kid things with mommy!”
That’s what prompted Charlie to take her to Santa Monica. Charlie had made a reservation at a restaurant on the Santa Monica beachfront and the two enjoyed a lovely casual dinner. They talked about projects they were excited about and started ‘people watching’ from their seats, laughing and making silly jokes about the people who passed them by. After dinner, they set out to do “Kid Things” and played games on the pier, settling for mini donuts as dessert and eventually watching the sunset. Charlie tensed for a moment, but quickly relaxed as he felt the small box in his pocket.
“Mommy won’t say yes unless I’m there. She would be too busy thinking about me before she says yes, so ask her at home”
“But what about bedtime?”
“I mean if you say I can stay up, then that should be okay right?”
“You okay? You looked tense for a second” Riley snapped him out of his thoughts, but he was grateful that she shivered because it gave him a chance to change the topic.
“Yeah, I was just thinking about the sunset in Dieppe. Can’t wait to take you one day. Cold?” he draped his denim jacket over her shoulders, and hugged her from behind. As soon as the glow from the sunset disappeared and the glow of the carnival lights replaced them, Charlie decided that instead of walking on the beach, they would go home and watch a movie on the couch. They spent the drive back to Riley’s place in a comfortable silence with the radio gently playing music. Charlie started to feel more excited and antsy the closer they got to her place. Before exiting the car, he held her hand in his and kissed the back of it. “I love you, you know that?” Riley smiled, nodded and kissed him on the lips. Charlie raced her to the door, knowing full well that he would beat her to it, but that didn’t stop Riley from trying. They stumbled through the entry a fit of giggles and laughter, but Riley stumbled on a pair of shoes.
“Charlie! I told you to... put your shoes...away?” she became more confused as she stared at the pair. They weren’t Owen’s, Charlie’s, Savannah’s or Emmerson’s. Who could be in their house? She looked up to see Charlie nowhere in sight and began to worry. “Char, this isn’t funny. This is like the scene from a horror movie” she quickly shed her shoes and walked down the corridor to the living room. She didn’t expect to see her mother, Charlie’s mom and their closest friends standing behind Charlie and Emerson with excited looks on their faces. To add to her confusion, they held party poppers and noise makers, while a giant Congratulations banner decorated her living room. She heard Emerson clear her throat and Charlie stood proudly beside her.
“Dear mommy, I stayed up past my bedtime because Charlie said I had to” everyone in the room laughed at this, as Emerson continued to read from the piece of paper in her hands.
“Mommy, you work so hard to give me the best life and the best toys. Sometimes I wonder how I can give you the best life and the best toys, but adults don’t play with toys. I asked aunty Carolyn why she was so happy with uncle Jeremy, and she said it was because she gets to be with uncle Jeremy forever” Carolyn wiped the tear that had formed in her eyes.
“I asked uncle Owen why aunty Carolyn and uncle Jeremy got to be together forever, and that’s when uncle Owen said it was because they were married.” She took a deep breath and lost her place on her paper. Charlie peaked over and pointed to where she needed to keep reading from.
“Oh, right. When I asked you were getting married, you told me never and that it was a rude question, but I think that was because you had a bad day at work” despite the teary eyes, her comment made everyone laugh.
“So I asked Charlie to go on a date with me and ask him when he would marry you” Riley gasped as Charlie pulled out the box with the ring, getting down on one knee. “I know Charlie makes you happy and I think you should be together forever. Charlie has a question for you and the answer is yes.”
“Riley King, I love you and I love Emerson. I can’t think of anyone I want to spend the rest of my life with. You and Emerson are my family now, so let’s make it official” Charlie winked at Emerson who put her paper down and also got onto one knee beside Charlie.
“Mommy, will you marry Charlie?” Riley was crying full tears at this point listening to her daughter’s words, but she nodded and whispered a yes. Everyone erupted in a cheer and the party poppers went off as he put the ring on her finger, kissing her and picking up Emerson. “You did so good, Emmy!”
“You’re gonna be my daddy!!!” Emerson exclaimed, full of excitement and squeezing Charlie.
Riley wiped her tears and kissed her daughter on the cheek, truly speechless. Everyone came around to congratulate them, Savannah, Madison, and Carolyn all wanting to see the ring first and then hugs. She was on cloud nine, still not able to understand how this was all being planned behind her back. “Is that why you volunteered to babysit?” Savannah nodded her head sheepishly and hugged her friend. Charlie’s mother gave her a big hug congratulating her on their engagement expressing her excitement to have another daughter in law, while Riley’s mother hugged Charlie, crying happy tears. The rest of the evening was spent enjoying everyone’s company that the couple lost track of time. By the time they said goodbye to Owen, the last to leave, Emerson had fallen asleep on the couch.
“You mean to tell me, you planned this entire thing with my daughter behind my back?” Charlie smiled and nodded, picking the little girl up from the couch, careful not to wake her up. “I mean, I am touched, but I’m also afraid of what else you two are capable of doing”
“Just wait til you hear her ideas for the wedding.” Charlie chuckled as they headed to her room to tuck her in for the night. He put the little girl into bed and Riley watched the whole scene from the doorway, tears coming to her eyes as it finally sank in that this was her family. Emerson stirred and shifted around, uncomfortable all of a sudden. Charlie cooed at her and assured that she was fine, humming softly to her, something that he often used since the first night he helped her through a nightmare.
“G’night daddy” she mumbled in her sleepy daze, settling back to sleep. Charlie was taken off guard as the new title fell from her mouth. He felt his heart explode and wiped a tear that fell from his eyes.
“Sleep tight Princess” he sniffled, clearing his throat and kissing the top of her head. He pulled another blanket over her frame as she often got cold in the middle of the night. It amazed Riley how much Charlie knew of her daughter despite the amount of time he had been present in their lives. They softly shut the door behind them and walked hand in hand to their room. “Planning the wedding is going to be fun”
“I was thinking we do it in Dieppe or Moncton” Riley suggested, something to which Charlie lit up at. He looked at her with wide eyes in disbelief.
“If you’re pulling an Emerson on me right now, I’m going to be so mad” they had come up with the term ‘pulling an Emerson’ to describe the sarcasm they often received from the little girl. But Charlie became overjoyed as Riley bit her lip and shook her head, confirming that she did in fact want to get married in his hometown.
“We start planning tomorrow”
A/N: if you really want a wedding scene or a glimpse of life after the wedding let me know!

Song: One Of Them Girls by Lee Brice
Tumblr media
Are you one of them girls? That peels off the Bud-Light label
You were sitting in a booth at a bar and grill, picking at the label on your beer bottle. You were waiting for your childhood best friend, as well as one of his other friends. You looked over at the door, seeing Owen Joyner and his friend walk in. You smiled waving them over.
"Owen! I've missed you!" You said hugging him once he was near the table. "And you must be my replacement as his best friend!" You said turning to the other guy.
"I didn't replace you!"
"Or did you?" You asked laughing. "I'm y/n." You put a hand out to shake.
"Charlie." He smiled shaking your hand.
Just might run a pool table, roll your eyes if I call you an angel ain't you, one of them girls?
"What do you say? Game of pool?" You asked standing up .
"I'm down." Owen said. "Come on Charlie." Charlie up following the pair of you to the pool tables. After a while you won.
"Good job angel." Charlie said smiling. You rolled your eyes.
Ask you to dance, you say, "No" just to see how far I'll go
You walked out of the restaurant with Charlie and Owen behind you.
"Y/n come here." Charlie said pulling you by the hand to Owen's car.
"Owen help! I'm being kidnapped!" You cried out jokingly to your friend, but he just laughed. "Charlie let go of my effing hand." You said glaring at him.
"Sorry." Charlie dropped it before he pulled his phone out, then he started playing music.
"Owen... You replaced me with a dancing monkey." You whispered to Owen as Charlie tried to get you to dance with him.
"One dance. Please angel." Charlie said you huffed but gave in.
Your song comes on and your eyes closed that's when I know, yeah you got your heart on lockdown got a wall I gotta knock down
"Bye!" You gave Owen a hug, before you waved at Charlie and walked to your car.
"Is she single?" Charlie asked.
"Dude! That's my best friend." Owen said.
"It was just a question." Charlie laughed. "But is she?"
"Yeah... Good luck with that." Owen said pushing him gently before he got into the car.
Kinda wanna do a shot now, come on now and you're one of them girls that ain't tryna meet nobody
You walked into your apartment, tossing your purse down onto the floor. You walked in smiling as you heard small feet running to you.
"Mommy!" The little girl exclaimed. You smiled lifting her. Followed by the young girl was, your teenage neighbor.
"Hiya babygirl." You smiled at your daughter, before looking at the teen. "Hi hun, thank you for watching her how much do I owe you?"
"20 bucks." The girl said. You nodded grabbing the money from your wallet and handing it to her. "Bye!"
"Bye, liv say bye."
"Bye!" Your daughter waved at the girl.
You're just here for the party if I'm wrong then stop me, yeah
Owen had invited you and your daughter over to hang out. Owen was one of the few friends who stayed friends with you in high school after you got pregnant with Olive. You were in your senior year, being 18. You held the four-year-old on your hip as you let her knock on the door of Owen's apartment. You were always thankful when he invited both you and Olive over since you couldn't always leave her with a babysitter. The door was opened by Charlie, who you were almost positive didn't know about Olive.
"Whos this?" Charlie asked. You had met him the week prior, he was still in town hanging out with Owen.
"I'm Olive!"
"Hi olive I'm Charlie.
"Whatevwer where uncle Owen? Mommy said Uncle owen lives here!" Olive said pouting. You stepped into the apartment and sat the little girl down, she ran straight to Owen.
"How old is she?" Charlie asked you.
"4."
You're one of them girls that ain't handin' out your number
"Can I get your number?" A guy asked you as you were at the bar and grill with Charlie and this time Olive.
"Solid 3." Your daughter answered for you. You busted out laughing unable to control yourself, Charlie copying.
"You heard the kid get outta here." You said in between laughs. "Good job Baby girl." You high-fived her.
You like to make us want you you like to make us wonder if you're one of them girls 'cause I'm one of them boys who'll trade his whole world, hmm, yeah
In the two weeks Charlie was in Oklahoma visiting Owen, he got close with you. Which led to texting and talking over the phone after he went back to LA.
"Hey angel." Charlie said.
"Stop calling me that!" You said glaring at him through the face time call.
"I don't want to! Now where's the little princess? I want to say Hi to her!" Charlie said smiling. You smiled back.
"She's at preschool." You answered.
"Awe." He said disappointed. You couldn't help but feel happy.
For one of them girls who likes to act all quiet sexy, not even tryin'
"Why are you so quiet Angel?" Charlie asked. You shrugged.
"I don't know." You responded in truth, you were stuck thinking. You never thought about dating again after you broke up with Olive's dad when you were 18, but now being 23 and falling for the Canadian you thought about it a lot. You were almost positive he would never date you though. You had a daughter, you were a teen mom. You've known him almost a year at this point.
"Okay, so did Owen tell you Julie and the phantoms season 2 is coming out soon!" Charlie said smiling at you.
"Ooh olive will be so excited she loves seeing her Uncle Owen on tv." You said.
"What about me?"
"She'll love seeing you on tv too."
Yeah, you know I ain't lyin', damn right you one of them girls broke every heart in your hometown on the day you rode out
You leaned back in bed sighing. You wanted to tell Charlie you wanted to date him, and it seemed like a good time as him and Jeremy were coming to visit Owen, and in turn you. Jeremy hasn't met you yet, but he heard a lot about you from both Owen and Charlie. You lifted Olive from her car seat before you grabbed her hand and walked into the apartment building, and to Owen's apartment. Once there you opened the door which you knew was unlocked because Owen texted you.
"I brought a kid! Keep what ever your doing PG!" You hollered walking in.
"Charlie!" Olive exclaimed running over to Charlie giving him a hug. You smiled softly.
"Hi, I'm y/n." You said to Jeremy. "That is Olive."
"Hi, Jeremy."
"Olive where's my hug?" Owen asked.
"Hi uncle Owen!" Olive smiled.
Got 'em all wishin' on stars now if I find one of them girls that ain't tryna meet nobody
You sat out by your car looking at the starry sky. Olive fell asleep on Owen's lap when the five of you were watching Moana. You just came out for air. You didn't notice Charlie walking up behind you.
"Ah! Oh, you scared me... Hey Charlie." You gave him a smiled.
"Hey whatcha doing?"
"Thinking you?"
"Came to find you." Charlie said. "I wanted to ask you something."
"Go ahead." You nodded looked at him.
"Will you be my girlfriend?" He asked shyly.
"Yeah."
You're just here for the party if I'm wrong them stop me, yeah you're one of them girls that ain't handin' out your number
You smiled at Charlie when he walked into the kitchen of his apartment where he found you and Olive having a impromptu dance party. You were in LA visiting him for a few days, the long-distance relationship was hard but you made it work. Olive absolutely loved Charlie anytime she saw him she got excited.
"Can I join?" Charlie asked taking Olive's hand, spinning her. You smiled watching them dance.
You like to make us want you, you like to make us wonder if you're one of them girls
You took a deep breath as you began packing up the things in your daughter's room. You and Olive we're moving to LA to live with Charlie, you've been dating Charlie for a year, and finally tired of the long distance relationship you decided to move up to LA. Owen was over helping keep a eyes on Olive who is now 6 so you could pack.
"Woah." You sighed looking at the now empty room, you haven't see the room empty like this since you moved in 6 years ago. You moved away from home when you turned 19, going to make a life for you and your daughter, now at twenty five your farther then you ever thought you would be.
"Have you see Olive? We're playing hide and seek." Owen said peaking in the room breaking you from your thoughts.
"No."
Well I'm one of them boys who'll trade his whole world, yeah for one of them girls
You stepped into the new apartment you and Charlie got together. His was nice but it only had the one-bedroom, and Olive would not have been happy if she didn't get her own room.
"This place is nice mommy! Where's my room?"
"I'll show you Princess." Charlie said grabbing the girl's hand before the went down the hallway. You sat the box you had down on the counter smiling softly.
You're one of them girls I wanna put my lips on hold all night long write a little love song
There was movement in the bed before a tiny body found it's self situated comfortably in between you and Charlie.
"Hunny?" You yawned looking down at Olive who was laying there hugging her stuffed bunny.
"Cuddles?" The girl asked. Charlie who has woke up aswell rolled over pulling the girl onto his chest before pulling you into his side.
"Shh go to bed." He whispered.
For one of them girls that ain't tryna meet nobody you're just here for the party
"Olive! I need to asked you something big." Charlie said parking the car at a McDonald's.
"What?" She asked unbuckling. He looked back at her.
"Let's go get food then I'll tell you okay?"
After they got their food and were sitting at a table. He got ready to ask her.
"What would you say if I asked your mommy, to marry me?" Charlie asked before eating a fire.
"That would he so cool! Would that make you my daddy?"
"Yeah." Charlie chuckled.
"Awesome! I'm gonna tell all my friends my daddy is an actor!" Olive said happily.
If I'm wrong then stop me, yeah you're one of them girls that ain't handin' out your number
You were on a date with Charlie, a much more romantic ones then the usual ones you went on together. It was usually a picnic or adventure date, but you were at a fancy restaurant.
Charlie mustered all his courage before he dipped to one knee.
"Will you marry me?"
"Yes!"
You like to make us want you, you like to make us wonder if you're one of them girls well I'm one of them boys who'll trade his whole world (his whole world) for one of them girls hmm, one of them girls

Chapter 25 -- Perfect Harmony | Charlie Gillespie
Summary: Emily Fox is a talented 17-year-old with a passion for all things music. Her dream is to become a successful singer-songwriter one day. But to achieve that dream, she needs to get into one of the most prestigious music schools in her district – it’s all been part of her plan since she was six. Sadly enough, those schools cost a ton of money that her parents don’t want to invest. They don’t even want her to pursue her dream. So, now Emily’s hustling, working at the music store to save up to get into college. That’s until she meets Charlie, an annoying seventeen-year-old boy with the same dream as her. The only difference is, he’s just doing it. He doesn’t need a fancy college to pursue his dream to become famous with his band. He just writes his songs and books small gigs here, there and everywhere. Will meeting Charlie defer her from her dream college, or will he actually help her achieve the dream?
Pairing: Charlie Gillespie x OC (Emily Fox)
Warnings: mentions of death, sexual assault
Important note: the characters of Charlie, Owen, Jeremy and Madison are based on the characters they play on the show and i do not own their names, only OC are mine. The songs aren’t mine either, they’re all from the show except for one.

~|Emily Fox|~
The boys and I have spent every waking hour together, working on music, working on the band. The dark void in my heart having been filled up by these three wonderful dorks and our music. While I’m building up my idea of a new future again, the boys have been building me up; giving me more confidence in my singing and my being. They supported me with every thought or idea I had about what college to go to or what idea I had for the band. Anything I said, the boys were 100% behind. It’s rewarding and refreshing to find a group of people to vibe off of so easily, especially after being a time apart and realizing how big of an impact they make on your life. It’s brought life back into a world that has crumbled apart. “That sounded tight, you guys!” I say, high-fiving Jeremy when we call in a break on rehearsals. “I can’t wait to play these songs live!” The boys chuckle while putting away their instruments or, in Owen’s case come from behind their instrument. “If we ever book a gig again,” Owen says solemnly. “Don’t give up hope, you guys. I’m sure we’ll book something soon,” I reassure them, and myself. Besides the Open Mic Night, we haven’t had the opportunity to play anywhere. Mostly because I was coped up in my room, crying all the time, and didn’t see the band for a good week. But you know… Still sucks. “Yes. You. Will!” Mitch’s voice resounds in the store. I hadn’t even heard the bell over the door ring; we were too busy chatting about gigs and rehearsals. “I think I might have a gig for you, Muffin.” He holds up a piece of paper, smiling smugly. “At the Orpheum,” he replies. I glance over at my bandmates to check if they heard it too. Judging by their bulging eyes and surprised glances, I’m sure they did. “Albeit it’s a school event, but you know… Still the Orpheum!” “What’s the gig exactly?” I ask, urging him to elaborate. “Bobby’s old school is holding a benefit. At first, they wanted to just do it in the school, but they booked a lowkey famous band and sold so many tickets, they can’t pack them all in the gym. And they’re looking for a band to open for them. You want me to make a call? I think you being Bobby’s niece will help us out a little.” I look up at the boys to see what they’re thinking. They’re eyes are sparkling like never before. The Orpheum has been a dream since they were Sunset Curve. “Please, try!” I tell Uncle Mitch. He grabs his phone and dials a number. The boys come closer to me as we watch Mitch in anticipation. We just hear a lot of ‘yes’ and hums until Mitch hangs up. “What did they say?!” I ask impatiently when he’s not telling us anything for an agonizing minute. Mitch almost looks upset, like he doesn’t want to disappoint either of us. “EMILY AND THE FOXES IS PLAYING THE ORPHEUM, BABY!!” He shouts really, really loudly. The four of us burst out into cheers and happy jumps and high fives. Without thinking twice about it, I grab Charlie’s face in my hand, staring into his eyes, and yelling, “THE ORPHEUM, CHARLIE!” When I realize how close we are, I slowly let go. For a while, we just look at each other until Jeremy and Owen make us snap out of the trance. That night, we celebrate in Jeremy’s garage with pizza, a movie and just each other’s company. My heart is full.
“Your VIPs are here,” Amanda, the showrunner, tells us as she knocks on the door of our dressing room. Today is the day; we’re playing a gig at the Orpheum. The gig we’ve been practicing all day and night for. “Come in!” I shout and get ready to greet Mitch, Madi and Charlie’s and Jeremy’s parents. Instead, I find my parents head in first, followed by two people I don’t know. They’re around my parents’ age. Neither of them seems too happy to be here either. “Mom? Dad?” I hear Owen say as he joins me at the door. “Surprise!” Madi and Mitch say at the very same time, showing off jazz hands. “Y—You… What? Huh?” Owen stutters and stumbles over his words, not sure what to say. I know they don’t have the greatest relationship either. He must be as surprised, if not more, as me. “Your Uncle Mitch called us,” mom starts with a small, careful smile on her face. “He caught us up on everything and told us about your show tonight…” dad continues. “We didn’t believe our little girl was playing the Orpheum!” I glare at my mother. “I thought you didn’t want to support my music career?” I ask, gritting my teeth. “We didn’t at first… But you have to know, Princess, we’re very proud of how far you’ve come,” says dad, placing his hands on mother’s shoulders. “Yeah, I came this far without you. Instead of you supporting me and believing in me from the start, I had to turn to my uncles. They didn’t choose to take care of me, but they did anyway. They love me and support me with everything I do.” Mitch gives me an appreciative smile. “I came this far because of Madi being by my side every single moment of every day I was angry and sad about my own parents not even loving me enough to be behind me 100%.” She grabs my hand and kisses my knuckles. “I came this far because of Charlie, Jeremy and Owen. They all became my family who supported me and cheered me up and comforted me because my own family couldn’t even do that for them.” I turn to Owen’s parents. “With all due respect, misses and mister Joyner, but your son is the most amazing and thoughtful person I have ever met. He’s been like a brother to me, and I can’t believe you as his family would ever do to him what you did to him. So, I’m sorry…” I turn back to my own parents. “But unless you’re all 100% behind us, I want you to leave.” “Emily…” Owen starts, but his father interrupts him. “No, she’s right, Owen. We should’ve been there for you and listened to you to learn about your world. We shouldn’t have reacted the way we did and we’re so sorry…” “We’re really proud of who you’ve become, Owen,” his mom chimes in, “Because you’re proud of who you are and everything you’ve achieved all by yourself. So, I hope you find it in your heart to forgive your old folks?” Owen glances at me, and after I’ve given him an encouraging smile, he launches forward and embraces his parents. My heart swells at the sight. “Emily…” my mother captures my attention. “Please, let us stay? We really are sorry for what we did to you. We should’ve never kicked you out. We should’ve never doubted you could make something of yourself. You’re part Mancini after all…” This is the first time she’s ever even slightly mentioned Uncle Robert. “I see so much of my brother in how you act and how ambitious you are… Please, let me just witness how you grow into a performer the way he did?” She sniffles, and that’s when I realize I’ve started crying too. I nod my head, granting them the permission back into my life, and the three of us hug. Mom holds me the way I wanted to be held so many times since the day she kicked me out. It’s nostalgic and rewarding. “What a sight this is,” Uncle Mitch says and when I look up, I find Charlie and Jeremy hugging their families too. For a while before the show starts, all of us hang out in the dressing room with our families. Luka, Owen’s sister has joined, as well as Jeremy’s two brothers. I’m glad I got to know all of them. Now, our Emily and The Foxes family has grown from the band-plus-Mitch-and-Madi to one big, happy family. Nothing can take this away from us now.
I take a deep breath, glancing over at our families in the front row, and after hearing Charlie’s “You got this”, I start playing the first notes on the piano to our new song. “Running from the past Tripping on the now What is lost can be found, it's obvious And like a rubber ball We come bouncing back We all got a second act, inside of us” The boys then chime in with their instruments as I grab the microphone, joining the boys to jam out with them. “I believe I believe that we're just one dream Away from who we're meant to be That we're standing on the edge of Something big, something crazy Our best days are yet unknown That this moment is ours to own” I turn from Jeremy to Owen and then to the crowd. I can’t look at Charlie yet. I know that if I do, I’ll want to kiss him, and we can’t have that. Got to stay professional. “'Cause we're standing on the edge of great” “On the edge of great” “Great” “On the edge of great” “Great” “On the edge of great” “'Cause we're standing on the edge of great” Charlie then takes the next verse whilst I walk out to the edge of the stage to interact with the crowd. “We all make mistakes But they're just steppingstones To take us where we wanna go It's never straight, no” I glance back at him as we sing together. He even gives me a little nod to beckon me to him. “Sometimes we gotta lean Lean on someone else To get a little help Until we find our way” Instead, I walk to Jeremy’s side of the stage, giving those people a bit of attention. “I believe I believe that we're just one dream Away from who we're meant to be That we're standing on the edge of Something big, something crazy Our best days are yet unknown That this moment is ours to own” I make my way back to Jeremy, dancing along to the rhythm he and Owen are giving me. “'Cause we're standing on the edge of great” “On the edge of great” “Great” “On the edge of great” “Great” “On the edge of great” “'Cause we're standing on the edge of...” I step onto the piano stool to give me a boost onto the grand piano itself. I crawl across, staying put on the edge as the boys and I go for the bridge together. “Shout, shout C'mon and let it out, out Don't gotta hide it Let your colors blind their eyes Be who you are no compromise Just shout, shout C'mon and let it out, out What doesn't kill you makes you feel alive Ooh-oh” Jeremy and Owen quit playing their instruments, and though we’d said this would be an a Capella moment for me, Charlie’s guitar riff surprises me instead. As I kneel in the middle of the piano, he makes his way over to me, giving me an encouraging smile. “I believe I believe that we're just one dream Away from who we're meant to be That we're standing on the edge of great” While I hit the high note, standing up onto the piano, the boys continue with the chorus. “Something big, something crazy Our best days are yet unknown That this moment is ours to own” We lapse into the chorus again, the crowd getting rowdier and cheerier with the second. This feeling right here is one I want to feel forever. With Charlie and Owen and Jeremy. And with Madi and Mitch next to me. The boys quit playing their instruments after the last chorus as I take my seat behind the piano again, securing the mic into the stand. To my complete surprise, I feel Charlie coming to sit next to me, and we sing the very last bit together in the same microphone. “Running from the past Tripping on the now What is lost can be found, it's obvious” As the crowd breaks out into a loud cheer, I can’t move anymore. All I can do is stay put and stare into Charlie’s beautiful hazel eyes that I’d missed so much. I inch closer. He inches closer. All the way until our lips touch in a soft, love-filled kiss. A kiss I’d missed for so long. “I love you, Emily Fox,” he whispers, his forehead pressed to mine. “I love you too, Charlie Gillespie,” I whisper back. Little do we notice my microphone is still on until the crowd bursts into even louder cheers. The both of us look up into the crowd first, then to Jeremy and Owen, who simply give us a proud smile, and then back at each other. He grabs my hand in his and leads me towards the middle of the stage where the boys join us too. Jeremy takes my hand, and Owen and Charlie hold hands too. The four of us take a bow, soaking in the feeling of the cheers at the Orpheum. We actually played the Orpheum. Emily and the Foxes. Me and my boys. Me, my two best friends and the love of my life. Forever. Together.

Monday Night Raw 2/18/19 Review
Well this show had a lot of ups and downs. Several of the matches did very well, but there was not a lot of plot progression. Still, the debut of several of the main event NXT stars created an exciting atmosphere throughout the night.
We started out with a pretty basic promo from Triple H, putting over Sasha Banks, Bayley, Finn Balor and Kofi Kingston. Weirdly, he put over Becky Lynch for attacking Charlotte and Ronda Rousey, acting like he is just one of the fans who thinks that Becky is super cool. He also talked about how D Generation X is being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, including Chyna. He then announced a couple new faces from NXT that are coming to the main roster, Ricochet, Aleister Black, Johnny Gargano, and Tommaso Ciampa. Then Triple H hypes up the crowd for the next match. The promo was not bad, even if Trips did stumble a bit when talking about NXT, but it just felt unnecessary. The results of last night’s show could’ve been revealed throughout Raw, and I think a surprise debut from the NXT superstars would’ve been more fun. I am pretty sure he was only really out there to officially announce that D Generation X was gonna be in the Hall of Fame, so I kinda get that. Glad to see that Chyna is finally in the Hall of Fame though.
Grade: C-. It was a harmless segment but it did not really need to be included. Raw can just start out with a match sometimes, and given that it was a fun stipulation match, that would have been refreshing.
So then we went right into the next match, a tables match between Baron Corbin and Braun Strowman. This is a logical continuation of their feud given how the No Disqualification match ended. Early on it was very bluntly explained that Strowman has a rib injury, so naturally Corbin worked them over during the match. Corbin had a weird strategy during the match of getting rid of tables. Maybe that was a character thing to show that he is a dick and wanted to punish Strowman more, but I just saw it as stupid. There was a cool spot where Strowman Irish whipped Corbin towards a table in the corner, and he did the slide out of the ring and close line move, which was a cool application of the move. But in the finish of the match, Corbin tried that same trick, but Strowman caught him and put him through the table for the win. After the match, Paul Heyman was coming out for his segment, and Braun grabbed him. Heyman looked like he was about to piss his pants, but Braun ended up letting him go. It was nice to see that Braun wasn’t forgetting his history with Heyman.
Grade: B-. The match was surprisingly fun, even if it was just a bit of a rehash of last night’s match. It made sense for the feud, there was a clean finish, stupid hardcore fun. I’m sure that they will have at least one more match before transitioning into their respective Wrestlemania feuds, which is a drag, but this seemed like it was the best part of their incredibly long feud so far.
Into Paul Heyman’s promo, he was a bit frazzled by Strowman’s attack. He talked about how everyone was jealous of Brock Lesnar, and then showed a video package of Brock being dominant, because he grew up on a farm I guess? That was a weird bit. Heyman flaunted Brock’s accomplishments, and said that Seth Rollins couldn’t come close to beating him. Finn Balor then interrupted, with his new Intercontinental Championship. And I guess Heyman’s promo was over
Grade: C. No new information from this segment, but it seems like there will be a running series talking about Brock Lesnar’s accomplishments in the WWE, so that could be interesting, but he didn’t have any new points and he was quickly cut off.
Balor then started talking about how proud he was to be holding the Intercontinental Championship, but he got interrupted by Lio Rush quickly. Rush said that Bobby Lashley deserved to be the champion, given that he wasn’t even pinned. Bobby Lashley then attacked Balor from behind, and the two beat him down, and Ricochet came out for the save. The brawl turned into a tag match. Rush and Ricochet had a great sequence to open up the match, and it is clear that Rush will have a storyline where he is desparate to please Lashley. A lot of the match was the faces completely dominating Rush, lest we forget that he is a cruiserweight. The finish of the match was very well done, with Lashley chasing Ricochet around the ring, only to be ambushed by a shotgun dropkick from Balor. Ricochet then hit his 630 senton on Rush for the win.
Grade: B. Another surprisingly good match. Ricochet and Finn Balor have great chemistry with Lio, and even Bobby Lashley was wrestling well tonight. There were some great spots, fun tag team fundamentals, and it was a fresh match. I would’ve preferred Ricochet in a singles match for his debut, but he definitely was the star of this match. I am kinda confused about why Rush and Lashley are still together, but I think that this is the kind of story where, eventually, Rush gets abused too much and leave Lashley. So I am okay with this for now.
Backstage, Drew McIntyre confronts Triple H about wanting in on the Wrestlemania main event, and he wants Rollins. Dean Ambrose then shows up and slapped McIntyre, challenging him. The match was booked.
After a quick video package recapping the Raw Women’s Championship scene, we came to another tag match. Lucha House Party, consisting of Gran Metalik and Lince Durado, against Zack Ryder and Kurt Hawkins. There was a bit of a miscommunication with in the LHP early on, but the match was going pretty well. But the match ended very abruptly, with Durado pinning Hawkins after a hurricanrana.
Grade D. The action was good, but it ended very quick and it seems to have no storyline relevance, so it is hard to care. Plus it was not given any time.
Immediately following the match, Charly interviewed Heavy Machinery, who were hitting their catchphrases, before getting interrupted by Lacy Evans. She did a catwalk, and then Heavy Machinery did a similar catwalk to their entrance music of loud construction noises. It was funny, but nothing else really happened during this.
Grade: D+. It seemed like WWE had a good grasp of Heavy Machinery for a while, but then lost it, and Lacey Evans feels like she will get lost in the shuffle if she actually joins the women’s division right now. So even though this segment was pointless, I am going to give WWE the benefit of the doubt and assume that they are building their characters because their respective divisions are too crowded right now. Still, does not save it from a bad grade.
Backstage, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa are discussing their match, when the Glorious Ones confront them about why they are getting a match with the champions. They do not really get an answer before the Revival interrupt and try to intimidate the old #DIY. The segment ended just as quickly as it began, and we jumped to entrances. The match was very good from the start, really recreating their old magic from their NXT Days. Awesome double team moves, quick tags, classic tag wrestling. WWE is really playing up these teams’ rivalry from NXT, which is something they always should have done. In the final stages of the match, Gargano hit a superkick to Dash on the outside, before hitting a slingshot spear to Dawson in the ring, tagging in Ciampa, and the pair hit the superkick and running knee combo for the win.
Grade: B+. Think of this as a weak B+. The match was very good, not their best but still quite exciting. And I would love to see these guys in more matches together. The reason why it is weak is because the Revival just won the belts last week, and they are already losing in a non-title match. That is not a good look, even if this is the debut of Gargano and Ciampa. I couldn’t bring myself to lower the score after a questionable booking decision given the quality of the match. Still, this was a very good debut for the two Champions in NXT, and could even be building to a triple threat tag team match with these two teams and the Glorious ones.
Backstage, Charly interviews Finn Balor and Ricochet. Finn quickly puts over Ricochet, and Ricochet talks about how being on Raw was always his dream. How nice to see. Kevin Owen’s then had another little promo, where he really just seemed like a normal dad. I do not know what his character will be like when he actually returns, but it should be interesting.
The new Women’s Tag Team Champions, the Boss and Hug connection, came out to a chorus of You Deserve It chants. And they really do. They are out to cut a promo about how they made history as the first every Women’s Tag Team Champions. They talk about how their relationship has been a rollercoaster, how they couldn’t imagine doing this with anyone other than each other. They say that they will defend them wherever there are challengers, even NXT. But as they finished up, Nia Jax and Tamina came out to confront them. Nia quickly tries to sow seeds of doubt in the champions’ partnership, and says that Sasha always loses championships on her first defense. They brawl a little bit, but the Boss and Hug Connection come out on top.
Grade: B. It is still very emotional to see the Women’s Tag Team Championships on Raw, and now we have a clear view of the first challengers to the Boss and Hug Connection. Nia has really been doing well with her heel character, even with Tamina was a partner, so I want to see how this feud will continue down the line.
Next up, we had Dean Ambrose vs. Drew McIntyre. They started out fast and furious. and looked like they were gonna have a good match, but McIntyre quickly hit a Claymore, before waiting for Ambrose to get up and hitting another one.
Grade: D-. I think that McIntyre and Strowman are on a colliison course for Wrestlemania. So they are both are in filler feuds until that comes to fruition. I assume that this is just a throwaway match meant to bury Ambrose, which it did. I just didn’t care, and I am sure that it does not matter.
We cut back to more of the Brock Lesnar accomplishment package, where Heyman just listed all of Brock’s wins since he broke the streak. No real reason that we had to split the package up, but whatever. Backstage, Charly interviewed Seth Rollins, where he continues to say that he will win the match, and he does not care about what happens to him during the match. Ambrose then approaches him in the back, and scolds Rollins for not helping him. Rollins asks if Ambrose has lost his mind, because they are not friends. Ambrose stares at him for a while, and says eh, before walking away. har dee har.
Elias was out complaining that he is being disrespected and interrupted. He was about to sing a song, but Aleister Black’s music hit. Good match, stiff hits. These guys definitely have chemistry. Black won with a Black Mass.
Grade C-. While the action was fine, Black didn’t get in nearly enough offense. Easily the least impressive debut of the night. I expected this to be a dominant display of Black’s striking, but instead it felt like any other match. WWE needs to step up their game when it comes to this booking.
And in the main event, in an Elimination Chamber rematch, was Ronda Rousey vs. Ruby Riott for the Raw Women’s Championship. Ruby Riott got a jobber entrance. However, this match is much closer given that the rest of the Riott Squad is in Ruby’s corner. Rousey was selling a lot to Ruby, eating a rough looking senton. Riott even hit the Riot Kick, but Rousey was able to kick out. As Rousey ascended to the top rope, the Riott squad distracted her and Ruby was able to hit a Riott Kick off the top for another near fall. Ruby then went to the top rope for a senton, but Rousey countered into the arm bar, only for the Riott Squad to pull Ruby out of the ring. Ronda then hit a shaky looking crossbody to Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan on the outside. After Rousey hit an Alabama slam into the turnbuckle on Riott, she then locked in the arm bar to retain the championship.
Grade: C+. The match was okay, but the result was never in question. While these two did put together a good match, it was an odd choice to have a rematch right after Rousey basically buried Riott the night before, and to also have Rousey kick out of two riot kicks. This match did not really forward the story on the road to the main event, but it was still an alright match.
Overall Grade: B-
Pros: Tables Match; Ricochet’s debut; DIY vs. The Revival
Cons: Dean Ambrose’s burial; Aleister Black not getting enough offense; a couple pointless matches and promos

SATURDAY
“Be good, okay?” Charlie crouched in front of Margaux. She nodded sleepily, the early morning wakeup something she wasn’t used to.
“When will you come back?” She mumbled, rubbing her eyes with a fist. Charlie swallowed, willing himself not to cancel the whole trip. They needed to do this, he had to get used to spending time away from her eventually.
“I’ll be back tomorrow night. So you and Papa will spend all day today and then all day tomorrow together and then Daddy will be back in time for bed time tomorrow.” Charlie explained, his voice soft.
“Why can’t I go too?” Margaux pouted.
“Because it’s a big person trip.” Charlie sighed slightly. He knew this wasn’t going to end well.
“I’m a big person. I’m four!” Margaux protested.
“You need to be a little bit bigger to come. But I promise we can go camping next week, okay? Just you and me.” Charlie promised, knowing there was nothing Margaux loved more than going camping with her dad.
“Pinky promise?” She questioned, holding out her hand, and Charlie wrapped his pinky around hers.
“I pinky promise.” He agreed, before catching sight of the time on his watch.
“Fuck.” He mumbled. “I gotta go now baby, I’ll see you tomorrow. I’m gonna miss you.”
He pulled the four year old into a hug, biting his lip as she started crying. Maybe leaving when she was tired wasn’t a good idea after all...
“Don’t go.” She sniffled, and Charlie pulled back, kissing the top of her head gently.
“I gotta.” He whispered. “I love you so much.”
“Daddy, don’t go.” She cried, throwing herself back into his arms and Charlie felt his eyes prick with tears of his own.
“I’ll be back before you know it.” He promised. “I love you.”
“Love you Daddy, don’t go.” Owen stepped forward, reaching out and taking the crying four year old from Charlie’s arms.
“Go.” He instructed, as Margaux screamed out, Charlie’s heart breaking with every cry of his name. He stood up, hesitating, and Owen gave him a small smile.
“I’ve got her. Go have fun. We love you.”
“I love you too.” Charlie replied, and with one last glance towards Margaux he turned and climbed into his car.
And no one had to know if he cried all the way to the organised meeting spot.
Charlie’s car pulled away and Owen waved slightly, knowing that his boyfriend would be taking this separation just as hard as his daughter was. The blond boy sighed, carrying the still screaming four year old inside, humming softly as he walked in an attempt to soothe her, his mind drifting back to the first time Charlie had left him alone with Margaux on the first day he had met her.
“Just watch her for a second, I need to pee.” Charlie said, standing up and placing the two year old down next to Owen, before walking away. Margaux watched him go, her face scrunching up as she began to cry. Owen’s eyes widened. What was he supposed to do now? He reached out, patting the top of Margaux’s head awkwardly.
“Don’t cry.” He mumbled, in what he hoped was a comforting tone. Clearly it wasn’t, however, since Margaux’s cries got louder, causing people to start to stare.
“Hey, Maggie. It’s okay. He’ll be back soon.” He tried, moving to pat her back. Still no use, and Owen began to panic. What were you meant to do with a crying kid? He bit his lip, still awkwardly patting her back.
Out of the corner of his eye he spotted Charlie heading back over to the table, and Owen breathed a sigh of relief as the older boy scooped up his daughter, holding her close to him and mumbling something in French. Margaux relaxed into his arms
“I didn’t know how to make her stop.” Owen admitted, as Charlie sat back down, Margaux still wrapped up in his arms. The Canadian boy laughed.
“Don’t worry, you’ll learn.” He replied. Owen gave him a small smile.
He sure hoped so, for everyone’s sake.
 -
As usual Charlie was right. Owen did learn, and now here he was, officially on his own for the weekend with Margaux having a complete meltdown in his arms.
He bounced her slightly, humming the tune  to Stand Tall, hoping the familiar tune would calm the four year old.
“Daddy!” Margaux wailed, her face red with anguish.
“Papa’s here.” Owen reminded her, swaying back and forth with her head tucked into his shoulder.
“I want Daddy.” She protested. Owen bit his lip.
“Daddy will be back tomorrow but for now, think about how much fun we’re gonna have together! We can paint each other’s nails and get pizza for dinner and watch all of your favourite movies. Or we could go out if you wanted to go somewhere? We could go swimming?”
“Don’t wanna.” Margaux cried.
“Okay.” Owen sighed, moving over to the couch and sitting down on it, shifting Margaux so that she was in his lap. Surely she’d tire herself out eventually, especially since it was barely 7am... maybe the best thing would be to just let her cry.
So that’s what Owen did, let the four year old cry as much as she needed, as he held her tight and hummed whatever songs he could think of, his fingers tangled through her curls.
-
Margaux cried non stop for the first hour until she fell asleep in Owen’s arms, exhausted from her tears. Owen sighed. He knew there were things to do but he couldn’t bring himself to leave Margaux’s side.
So he stayed on the couch for almost four hours, Margaux curled into his chest, while he played video games on mute waiting for her to wake up.
Eventually she did stir, just before lunch time, which Owen decided was the perfect distraction.
“Good morning princess.” He whispered. “Are you hungry?”
Margaux yawned before nodding.
“I found a really cool place for us to go have lunch and some friends we can invite along to come play with us. How does that sound?” Owen suggested and Margaux just nodded again, staring at the TV blankly. Clearly it was going to be a bit harder to get her to talk than he’d thought.
“Should we get dressed? You can even pick your own clothes!” Margaux didn’t reply, so Owen just stood up, the four year old still held safely in his arms, and made his way down the hallway to her bedroom.
He kicked open the door, and placed Margaux onto the ground, before opening her wardrobe.
“What do you wanna wear?”
Margaux stepped forward and Owen internally cheered at the slight progress. The tiny blonde scanned through her clothes, eventually grabbing at a pair of overalls, before turning back and looking at Owen expectantly.
“You wanna wear those ones?” He asked, and she nodded, before grabbing onto a Julie and the Phantoms shirt that Madi’s dad had made her. Owen smiled slightly, taking the two items of clothing out and quickly helping Margaux get dressed.
“Now, what’s next?” Owen mused, hoping to get a reaction from Margaux. She didn’t answer, staring down at the ground as Owen grabbed her hairbrush and settled down with her standing between his legs as he sat on the end of her bed.
“How do you want your hair?” Owen asked, running the brush through her curls. Margaux thought for a moment.
“Bun.” She mumbled, and Owen grinned.
“There’s that beautiful voice of yours. I missed it.” He teased, and Margaux smiled slightly.
“Okay, let’s get this bun going.” He pulled her hair back, tying it somewhat messily in a bun. “How’s that?”
“Good.” Margaux replied.
“Yay!” Owen cheered and Margaux giggled, the sound warming Owen’s heart.
“Do you wanna go watch Paw Patrol while I get dressed? Or you can stay here and play?” Owen suggested, and Margaux shook her head, clinging to his leg.
“With you.” She mumbled and Owen sighed but took her with him nonetheless.
Two steps forward, one step back.
-
Almost an hour later Owen climbed out of an Uber, before unclipping Margaux from the safety seat, removing the safety seat from the car, and thanking their driver.
“You ready to make some friends?” He questioned, looking towards the large building that housed an indoor play centre where they would be meeting a few members of the cast.
“No.” Margaux replied and Owen laughed.
“Don’t worry, you’ll like them.” He said.
They entered the indoor play centre and Margaux’s eyes widened in excitement, taking in the various areas of the room, before settling on a high ropes course in the middle of the room. Of course Charlie’s kid would choose the most adventurous thing in the room to be excited for.
“Owen!” A voice called, and Owen turned to find Cheyenne heading towards them, with his twins holding onto their father’s hands.
“Hey guys.” Owen greeted. “It’s so good to see you.”
“You too. And little miss Margaux here, look at how much you’ve grown!” Cheyenne gasped playfully and Margaux grinned, Owen smiling at the switch in her behaviour.
“Cause I’m four.” She boasted. Cheyenne smiled.
“So are my little ones. This is Willow and Ethan.” He smiled, gesturing to each twin as he introduced them. “And this is Margaux.”
“Hi!” Willow grinned and Margaux smiled slightly, leaning into Owen.
“She hasn’t had very good experiences with kids her age.” Owen explained. “Plus we’ve had a bit of a rough morning.”
“That’s okay. Why don’t we head back to the table we’re at. Kenny and Sacha are there and Tori and Jadah are coming soon. Kenny booked the whole place out for the day so there’s no rush and no other people.” Cheyenne said, and Owen nodded, following the older man through the entrance and over to a table where Kenny and Sacha were sitting.
“Hey guys.” Owen smiled, once they arrived at the table.
“Hey Owen. How are you?” Kenny questioned.
“Not too bad. Hopefully will be better soon.” Owen replied with a small grin.
“Daddy can we go play?” Ethan questioned, and Cheyenne nodded.
“Why don’t you take Margaux with you.” He suggested and the twins both turned their attention to the blond, who turned to Owen, a worried look on her face.
“You’ll be okay.” Owen promised her, moving to take her shoes off as she clung to him. “I’ll be right here the whole time.”
“Okay.” She decided, and Owen placed her on the ground, watching as she hesitantly took a hand of each of the twins and allowed them to drag her towards the biggest playground.
“How was this morning?” Kenny questioned as Owen flopped down into an empty chair. Owen sighed, watching Margaux climb the stairs of the playground, any hesitation already gone.
“Not good. She was okay until Charlie said he had to go and then she had a complete meltdown. He was about 30 seconds away from cancelling his trip, you could see it in his face. So I grabbed her and made him leave, and then she cried for literally an hour until she fell asleep again.” He said, and Kenny smiled sympathetically.
“How long is Charlie gone for?” Sacha asked.
“He comes back tomorrow evening.” Owen bit his lip. “I’m worried about how she’ll go tonight when she realises he isn’t there to put her to bed.”
“You’ve got this.” Kenny assured him. “We’ve all seen you do it before and you do this all the time with Charlie around.”
“I hope so.” Owen replied. “I’m kinda hoping she’ll exhaust herself here and just pass out tonight.”
The group laughed.
“That’s pretty likely.” Cheyenne agreed. “I’m hoping for the same thing.”
The door chimed again, signifying another arrival, and both Kenny and Sacha stood up to go greet the newest guest. Cheyenne gave Owen a small smile.
“If you don’t mind me asking, you said Margaux hadn’t had very good experiences with kids her age. What happened?” He questioned.
“Charlie had something to do, I think it was some beach cleaning thing, so he enrolled her into a childcare program. She lasted a few hours before she got into disagreements with the other kids about her not having a mum, and the bitch teacher backed them up saying she had to have a mum. So next minute Charlie’s being called in to discuss Margaux’s “issues with authority figures”, and she never went back.” Owen explained, and Cheyenne frowned.
“That’s horrible.” He said. “I’m glad she didn’t go back.”
“Me too.” Owen agreed. Cheyenne gave him a reassuring smile.
“At least we know with my kids they won’t worry about her not having a mum.” He joked and Owen smiled, instinctively glancing towards the playground, where Margaux and the twins had decided to attempt to climb up the large slides the wrong way, the three of them giggling loudly as they slipped back down.
“She reminds me so much of Charlie.” Cheyenne commented, following Owen’s gaze. “They have the same adventurous spirit and cheeky personality.”
“She’s his clone.” Owen laughed. “Everything except the hair.”
“Personally I think her hair makes her look like your daughter.” Cheyenne said, and Owen’s heart skipped a beat.
“Really?” His tone was filled with disbelief. He’d never considered that before.
“Definitely. If people didn’t know they’d assume she was yours biologically.” Cheyenne nodded. Owen smiled slightly.
“That means a lot to me.”
“Anytime.” Cheyenne smiled, as they were rejoined by Kenny and Sacha, who were now accompanied by Tori and Jadah.
“Now,” Kenny started, as everyone sat down around the table. “Should we order some food?”
So maybe not all kids her age were horrible, Margaux decided as she sat at the top of one of the large towers in the playground. The twins seemed nice enough and her Papa promised her that he would be there, and she knew he wouldn’t let anyone be mean to her, ever.
“Do you have a brother or a sister?” Willow questioned, plopping down next to her. Margaux shook her head.
“No.” She said. “Just me and Daddy and sometimes Papa. But he lives in Oklahoma most times.”
“You don’t have a mummy too?” Ethan asked, joining them. Margaux shook her head again.
“Do you have a mummy?” She glanced between the twins, who also shook their heads.
“We have Dad and Daddy.” Willow told her. Margaux grinned. There was no way they’d be mean to her about not having a mum if they didn’t have one either.
“Do you like Paw Patrol?” She asked, and the twins nodded quickly.
“Yeah! I like Skye.” Willow answered.
“I like Marshall.” Ethan added.
“I like Everest cause she likes snow and I like snow too.” Margaux explained.
“Can we go on the slides again?” Ethan questioned, and the girls exchanged a look before nodding.
“You go first.” Margaux instructed, and together the three made their way through the tunnels, back to the slides.
Yeah, Margaux thought as she followed the twins, maybe all kids weren’t mean.
After several hours of running around, the three four year olds were clearly exhausted so the group decided to call it a day.
“Do you need a lift?” Cheyenne asked. Owen nodded, glancing down at Margaux, who was hugged tightly between Willow and Ethan. He couldn’t wait to tell Charlie that she finally had some friends her own age.
“That would be great, thanks.” Owen smiled, which Cheyenne quickly returned.
With a few last goodbyes to the rest of the group and promises to meet up again soon, Owen, Cheyenne and the kids left, Cheyenne leading the way while Owen brought up the rear to make sure the kids didn’t wander.
And before he knew it Cheyenne was pulling up in front of Charlie’s place and Owen was unclipping Margaux’s seat as she clung to the twins, begging to see them again soon. It was only after Cheyenne and Owen promised they’d organise something that she let Owen lift her out of the car and the two of them stood and waved goodbye to the car as they drove away.
“Come on Maggie, lets go inside and decide what we want for dinner.” Owen said and Margaux’s eyes lit up.
“Pizza?” She asked. Owen chuckled.
“Sounds good to me.” He agreed, unlocking the door and letting her in, placing the car seat near the door in case they needed it again.
“Can we watch movies?” Margaux questioned, squirming in Owen’s arms until he placed her down on the ground.
“We sure can.” He smiled. “Whatever movies you want.”
“Nemo?” Margaux suggested as Owen flicked the TV on, going to Disney Plus and finding the movie in response to her request.
And once the movie was playing Owen settled down onto the couch with her, and was determined he wouldn’t move unless he absolutely had to.
Eventually it was time for the moment Owen had been dreading. Bedtime.
“Okay princess, it’s time to go to sleep.” He said, as the credits rolled on Frozen 2.
“Daddy said he would come back for bedtime.” Margaux frowned.
“Bedtime tomorrow, remember?” Owen reminded her softly.
“Oh.” She pouted, tears threatening to fall. Owen’s eyes widened, trying to think fast.
“I know!” He exclaimed, and Margaux looked at him curiously. “We should have a sleepover. We can get your toys and sleep in Daddy’s bed and maybe even watch TV until we fall asleep.”
Margaux grinned widely.
“Yeah!” She squealed. “I wanna do it!”
“Okay, well we’ll have to go get your friends from your room.” He said and Margaux grabbed onto his hand.
“Hurry.” She giggled, tugging him down the hall to her bedroom. He flicked the light on as they entered, and Margaux jumped onto her bed, eyeing the large pile of Squishmallows stacked at the end of the bed. Madi had bought her one and ever since then she had been addicted to the stuffed toys.
“Okay, who are we bringing?” Owen questioned, sitting down on the edge of the bed, already grabbing the toy penguin that Margaux never slept without. The four year old frowned at the pile before reaching towards an orange octopus, depositing it in Owen’s lap. She scanned the pile again, grabbing a small brown and white cow, a grey dragon, a green dinosaur and a large purple and blue cat that was almost as big as she is.
“That’s all.” She decided. Owen nodded, grabbing the toys in his arms.
“Anything else we need?” He asked, and Margaux grabbed her blanket.
“Done.” She decided. Owen grinned, standing up.
“Lead the way Miss Maggie.” He instructed, and Margaux giggled, rushing out of the room and across the hallway into Charlie’s room, leaving Owen to follow her after struggling with the light switch. Eventually he got it off and entered Charlie’s room, dropping the toys onto the bed for Margaux to sort out.
“Do you want to watch one of those house hunting shows?” Owen asked, flicking the TV on. Margaux hummed in response, too busy figuring out the placement of her Squishmallows to pay full attention to him.
“What’s it ‘bout?” Margaux mumbled, settling into the middle of the bed. Owen pulled off his shirt before climbing in next to her, smiling when the four year old latched herself onto him in the same way she did to her father.
“It’s about people who are looking for a new house.” Owen explained.
Margaux thought for a moment before nodding.
“Okay we can watch it Papa.” She agreed, so Owen changed the channel to the lifestyle channel.
Hopefully the show would put the four year old to sleep.
-
It did not put her to sleep.
It was well past midnight and somehow Margaux was still awake, happily watching a couple decide between an apartment close to their ideal location, or a large house a little further out.
Owen yawned, glancing towards the time.
“Maggie, aren’t you tired darling?” He questioned, and Margaux shook her head.
“I’m awake! My Squishmallows wanna know if they buy the little house.” She informed him. “I want the big, big one.”
If Owen wasn’t half asleep he would have laughed at how invested Margaux was, but he was struggling to keep his eyes open and her not being asleep was not something he found funny in that moment.
“After this we’re gonna turn it off and go to sleep, okay?” He told her, and Margaux frowned, shaking her head.
“I wanna watch more.” She replied, and Owen groaned.
“We gotta go to sleep, otherwise we won’t be able to wake up for Daddy coming home tomorrow.” He said, and Margaux pouted.
“I wanna watch it more. You said I could watch it ‘til I sleeped, and I’m not sleeping yet.” She reminded him, and Owen cursed his past self for using those words, and cursed Charlie for raising such a smart kid.
“But I’m falling asleep.” He whined.
“You sleep then.” She answered, and Owen sighed. Time to put his “parent voice” on.
“Margaux, we’re turning it off after this episode, and we’re going to sleep.” He said firmly and Margaux glared at him.
“No.” She retorted and Owen tensed up. Now what was he meant to do? Margaux was rarely in trouble so he didn’t really have experience in how to discipline her if she acted out.
“Margaux Ivy.” He warned. “Do you want to go back to your own bed?”
Margaux shook her head.
“Then after this episode finishes the TV goes off and we’re going to sleep. And if you go to sleep straight away maybe we can go get breakfast somewhere in the morning. How does that sound?” He tried, hoping the promise of a nice breakfast would make her back down.
“Don’t wanna.” She mumbled. “Want Daddy. You’re a meanie.”
Owen stared at her, his heart shattering at those three little words.
“You don’t mean that, you’re just overtired.” He said, his voice sounding small, not quite sure who he was trying to convince. Margaux crossed her arms.
“Yes I do. You’re a big meanie and a bossy pants and I don’t like you now.” She replied firmly.
“Maggie...” He trailed off, not knowing what to do.
She ignored him, turning her attention back to the TV where the couple were about to sit down to decide between the three houses.
Owen bit his lip, reaching for his phone to text Charlie, even though he knew the chances of Charlie replying were probably slim. He was probably out of cell range, or already asleep, or both.
Messages between OPJ and Char
OPJ one day without you and she hates me
Charlie’s reply was almost instant.
Char  she could never hate you O, i promise
Owen sighed, glancing at Margaux who had tucked herself into a ball with her chosen Squishmallows surrounding her, and was mumbling something under her breath in French.
OPJ  she said, and i quote, that i’m a “big meanie and a bossy pants and she doesn’t like me now” so yeah, pretty sure she hates me
Char what happened?
OPJ she got sad at bedtime so i promised her we could watch tv until we fell asleep and now its 1 in the fucking morning and she’s still awake watching house hunters and i told her its time for it to be turned off, like the asshole i am, and she said no so i used my parent voice on her and now she hates me and she’s still fucking watching tv and i don’t know what to do
Owen had barely pressed send when his phone began to ring, Charlie’s photo appearing on his screen.
“Hey.” He answered sadly.
“Give the phone to Margaux.” Charlie’s voice came through the phone and Owen didn’t respond, holding the phone out to the four year old.
“It’s for you.” He said, and she glared at him, but took the phone nonetheless, face lighting up when she heard her father’s voice.
Owen flopped backwards onto the bed, relaxing instantly as Charlie’s scent engulfed his senses. He zoned out, just focusing on breathing, until he was jolted back to reality by Margaux poking his cheek.
“Daddy wants to talk to you.” She informed him, and he took the phone, pressing it back to his ear.
“Yeah?”
“She’s gonna go to sleep now.” Charlie said, and Owen breathed out a sigh of relief.
“Thank you.” He whispered. “I’m sorry I disrupted your night and bothered you when you’re trying to have time off.”
“You didn’t.” Charlie assured him.
“I couldn’t even get her to go to sleep.” Owen mumbled, glancing at Margaux, who was already fast asleep, just proving how tired she had actually been. “I’m a failure.”
“You are most definitely not.” Charlie replied firmly. “You’ve made it all the way til now with no issues, even after the complete meltdown she had this morning. Parenting isn’t always easy Owen, even I struggle with overtired Margaux.”
Owen sighed, reaching for the TV remote and turning the TV off, engulfing the room in darkness.
“Fuck, can you just promise me you believe me? I’m too high right now to figure out a better argument.” Charlie whined and Owen giggled, only just noticing how out of it Charlie actually sounded.
“Kid free time is going well then?” He teased, thankful for the lighter topic.
“I haven’t been this high since she was born, it’s nice to be able to smoke without worrying about her waking up or not being sober by the time she gets up the next morning.” Charlie replied, and for a moment Owen felt an overwhelming sadness for the 18 year old Charlie who had been forced to grow up so quickly, with no chance to be an actual kid himself.
“I miss you.” Owen admitted. “It’s hard being here with her without you.”
“You’re halfway there babe, just keep going.” Charlie reminded him and Owen blushed slightly at the pet name.
“I will. Thank you again, for getting her to sleep.” Owen replied. Charlie hummed in response.
“Any time. How was the rest of your day?” He questioned.
“After you left she cried for a bit, and then slept until lunch time. And then we went to this indoor play centre thing with Cheyenne and his twins, and Kenny, Sacha, Jadah and Tori, and Mags loved the twins.” Owen recounted.
“She did?” Charlie cut in, and Owen could hear the smile on his face.
“She did.” Owen grinned. “She begged me to see them again soon, so you’ll have to organise something with Cheyenne. Then we just had pizza and watched some movies before we went to bed.”
“Sounds like you had a great day.” Charlie replied. Owen opened his mouth to respond, but instead yawned, eyes drifting shut for a second.
“Go to sleep babe.” Charlie’s voice was gentle and Owen nodded, before realising his boyfriend couldn’t see him.
“Okay.” He answered. “Night Char, I love you.”
“I love you too Owen. See you tomorrow afternoon.” Charlie replied, before hanging up. Owen let his phone fall to the pillow, too tired to even plug it in to charge.
And with Margaux’s steady breathing in his ear, he finally drifted off to sleep.
SUNDAY
Owen woke the next morning to Margaux attempting to braid his hair, Bluey playing quietly on Charlie’s iPad.
“You awake Papa?” Margaux questioned. Owen hummed in response.
“Yep.” He replied, voice deep with sleep. “You doing my hair?”
“Yeah.” Margaux responded simply. After a moment she spoke up again.
“Are you still mad with me?”
Owen sat up, reaching out to the tiny blonde. She wriggled closer, settling into his arms.
“Oh darling no, I could never be mad at you.” He told her. Margaux thought for a moment before looking back up at him.
“Do you still love me?” She asked, her voice small. Owen’s heart shattered.
“Of course I still love you. You’re my little girl, I will always love you. Just like how your Daddy will always love you no matter what.” He assured her.
“But I was mean to you.” Margaux frowned. “And Daddy said that’s naughty.”
“It is naughty, but I forgive you. Because I know you were just very tired.” He told her. She sighed, resting her head on his shoulder.
“I’m sorry Papa.” She said quietly. Owen pressed a kiss to her head, playing with her curls like he knew Charlie did, hoping the familiar gesture would reassure her.
“I know honey, it’s okay, I promise.” He whispered.
“Love you.” Margaux mumbled, pressing her face into his neck. Owen smiled, wrapping his arms around her tightly and squeezing.
“I love you too.” He replied. “Now how about we get dressed and go out for breakfast?”
“Yeah!” Margaux grinned, perking up instantly at the mention of food. Owen laughed.
“Okay then, let’s do it.”
Just over an hour later the two of them were curled into a tiny booth in the back corner of a café, the table chosen especially to try to remain unnoticed by any fans that may have been around. Owen loved the fans but sometimes they could be a little much, and having Margaux with him made him hyperaware of how necessary it was to remain anonymous. He had no idea how Charlie did this.
Owen glanced around the room, picking at his eggs. There didn’t seem to be anyone around who might recognise them, but there was never a guarantee that they wouldn’t be noticed.
“Can I have some of your one Papa?” Margaux questioned, catching Owen’s attention.
Owen’s head snapped back, his attention now solely on the four year old in front of him.
“Which one darling?” He asked.
“That one.” She pointed to the cooked tomato that he had pushed off to the side of his plate. Owen nodded, placing it on her plate and shaking his head when she dipped it into the leftover maple syrup. Charlie really was raising his clone.
“Are you full?” Margaux questioned after scoffing down the tomato, eyeing his eggs. Owen chuckled, scooping the eggs onto her plate too.
“Hungry this morning huh?” He teased. Margaux grinned at him, her mouth full of his eggs.
“Patrick says it’s cause I’m a growing girl.” She informed him.
“I think Patrick is right. You were only tiny when I first met you and now you’re huge!” He emphasised the last word and Margaux laughed loudly.
“You’re silly Papa.” She said between laughs. Owen grinned.
“Excuse me?” A voice came and Owen’s heart stopped for a moment, looking up to find an elderly woman smiling at him.
“Yes?” He answered politely. She didn’t look like the type to watch the show, but you could never be sure.
“Sorry to interrupt, I just wanted to compliment you on how well behaved your daughter is.” She smiled and Owen couldn’t help the light blush that covered his cheeks.
His daughter.
“Thank you.” He replied and the woman nodded, smiling at Margaux, before wandering away.
Owen took a deep breath, collecting himself, before tuning his attention back to Margaux.
“You ready to go kiddo?” He questioned. Margaux nodded, so Owen stood up, taking her hand and leaving the cafe, thanking the waitresses as they left.
“So what do you wanna do today?” Owen asked as they began the short walk back to Charlie’s place. Margaux pulled a face as she thought.
“Can we watch some more House Hunters?” She questioned, making Owen laugh.
“Of course we can.” He agreed.
It was just after 2pm when Margaux shifted in his arms, where she had settled down to watch House Hunters hours ago.
“Papa? I’m hungry.” She mumbled. Owen played with one of her pigtails.
“What would you like to eat?” He asked.
“I don’t know.” She shrugged, as Owen’s phone vibrated in his pocket.
“Why don’t you have a little think then.” Owen suggested, pulling out his phone and smiling when he saw Charlie’s name on his screen. He answered quickly.
“Hey!” He greeted.
“Hey babe. I’m just leaving now, will be home in maybe an hour?” Charlie’s voice came through the phone.
“That’s great, we can’t wait to see you. We were just talking about getting some lunch, would you wanna pick something up on the way home?” Owen asked. Charlie laughed.
“I can do that. Anything in particular?” He questioned. Owen turned his attention back to the blonde in his arms.
“You decided on what you wanna eat yet Maggie?” He asked. She shook her head.
“No.” She replied simply. Owen chuckled.
“Want Daddy to pick something? He’s coming home now and he’s gonna get lunch for us on the way.” He suggested. Margaux lit up at the suggestion. Or maybe the idea that her Dad was on his way home. Probably both.
“Yes please.” She grinned.
“Hey Char? Your pick. Just not pizza cause we had that last night.” Owen informed the older boy.
“Okay cool, I’ll see you guys in like, 30 minutes then.” Charlie answered, and Owen could hear his car starting in the background.
“See you then.” Owen smiled. He really had missed Charlie, and he knew Margaux had missed her father just as much, if not more.
“Love you.” Charlie’s voice came, breaking Owen out of his thoughts.
“Love you too.” Owen replied, before hanging up and turning to Margaux. “Okay Maggie, what house are they picking?”
The four year old paused, thinking.
“The blue one.” She decided.
“With the pool?” Owen checked, and she nodded.
“Yeah that one.” She said. He looked up at the TV, just in time to see the house again.
“Cause it’s got a pool?” He questioned. Margaux nodded, settling back into his arms again.
“And it’s blue.” She giggled. “Blue house and blue pool. That’s the best one.”
“You know what? I think you might be right.” Owen laughed, and the two of them turned their attention back to the TV to find out which house the couple chose.
-
Just under half an hour later Charlie arrived home, unlocking the front door and entering the quiet house, his arms full of Chinese takeout.
He could hear muffled giggles coming from his bedroom, so he dropped his bags and headed down the hallway, entering his room to find Owen and Margaux curled up in a pile of Squishmallows, the lifestyle channel playing loudly on the TV.
“Daddy!” Margaux exclaimed, jumping up and throwing herself at him. He stumbled, but caught her, handing the food off to Owen so that he could properly hug his daughter.
“Hey baby.” He greeted, squeezing her tightly as she clung to him like a baby koala.
“I missed you.” She whined. “Don’t go away again.”
“I’ll try not to.” He laughed. “Did you have fun with Papa?”
She launched into a complete recount of her weekend as Charlie placed her back down onto the bed and plopped down next to Owen, snuggling close to the blond in greeting.
“You survived.” Charlie grinned, placing a kiss to Owen’s shoulder. Owen chuckled.
“Barely.” He replied, scooping fried rice onto one of the paper plates that the restaurant had provided. Charlie shook his head.
“But you survived. That’s all that matters.” He said, and Owen glanced at Margaux before nodding.
“Yeah it is.” He agreed.
And as Charlie settled back into Dad life, he couldn’t help but wish that this was how life could be every day.

“Daddy?” Margaux piped up from her car seat. Charlie glanced in the mirror. They had been in the car for almost 14 hours now, with only a few short stops for lunch and toilet breaks, and it was almost time for them to stop for the night.
“Yeah baby? You hungry?” Charlie questioned, and Margaux nodded.
“A little bit, but can we listen to Julie?” She gave him a small grin, and Charlie smiled, reaching for his phone to bring up the Julie and the Phantoms album, and stop his country music playlist.
“Of course we can. Which song?” He asked.
“Umm.” Margaux trailed off. “Great!”
Charlie chucked to himself, turning the song on and glancing at his daughter every so often as she happily sung along to the song. Margaux was obsessed with Julie and the Phantoms, her favourite character was Alex and she often requested to be dressed in pink just to match him. Charlie was actually quite surprised it had taken her this long to request the album.
The GPS told him to pull off at the next exit if he wanted to stop at the motel he had planned to, so Charlie obeyed, his focus going back onto the driving as Margaux happily belted Stand Tall from her car seat.
No more than 20 minutes later Charlie was pulling into the carpark of a small motel and parking, before turning in his seat to see Margaux.
“We’re gonna stay here tonight, okay? And then drive the rest of the way to Papa’s tomorrow.” He told her, and she peered out of the window.
“A hotel!” Margaux exclaimed excitedly. Charlie chuckled slightly, looking at the run down motel they had stopped at. It was far from the exciting ‘hotel’ Margaux saw it as, but he loved how her childhood innocence could make it seem like the most incredible place she had ever seen.
“Yeah baby. We’ll go in and have a bath and then maybe we’ll go find some food to eat, how does that sound?” He smiled and Margaux nodded.
“Good.” She agreed.
“Okay good, let’s go in then.” Charlie pulled his mask on and reached across to the passengers seat for the bag he had packed their essentials for the night in, and placed it on his back once he climbed out of the car. He walked around the car, opening up Margaux’s door and getting the four year old out of her seat and lifting her into his arms.
“Gotta go talk to the people.” He told her, locking the car and heading into the reception to book one night, letting them know that they would be leaving before the sun rose in the morning.
Once they had the key Charlie and Margaux headed back out into the early evening and found their room, entering it easily. Charlie placed Margaux down once he had shut the door behind them, and the four year old ran over to the window instantly, peering out of it like she did with every place they stayed at.
Charlie smiled, throwing the bag down onto the bed and sitting down, pulling his mask off.
“Do you wanna have a bath before we go get dinner baby?” He questioned.
“No.” Margaux replied simply. Charlie laughed.
“Can I at least change you into some warmer clothes?” He asked, and Margaux thought for a moment before nodding, coming over to her father and letting him change her into the long, fluffy pants and hoodie he had pulled out of the bag, and when she was done, placed a tiny beanie on her head.
Charlie grinned.
“Okay, what do you want for dinner? Anything you want.” He said, pulling her onto his lap, and she snuggled closer, thinking.
“Um...” Margaux trailed off. “Burger King!”
Charlie stood up, shifting Margaux to his hip and putting his mask back on before grabbing the car keys.
“Burger King it is then. Let’s go find some dinner.”
They found a Burger King with no trouble at all, and entered the restaurant, Charlie quickly heading to the counter and ordering, before moving off to the side to wait, while Margaux cuddled into his arms, her head on his shoulder as she watched the workers preparing the food.
“Charlie?” A female voice came from behind them, and Charlie spun around to find a young girl, no older than 16, and who he assumed to be her mother.
“Hi.” He smiled, suddenly very aware of the weight of Margaux on his hip. He really tried to avoid having interactions with fans with her around, he never knew what one of them might share about his daughter, and her safety was his first priority always.
“Oh my gosh it’s really you! Hi! I’m such a big fan of Julie and the Phantoms.” The girl exclaimed, and Charlie grinned.
“Aw thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it.” He said sincerely,
“Oh she loves it. Made the whole family watch it. It’s all she ever talks about.” The girl’s mother chimed in and Charlie chuckled.
“Mum.” The girl groaned slightly, but her mother was undeterred, shifting her attention to the four year old in Charlie’s arms, who had moved her head to continue watching the workers.
“Is this little one yours? I didn’t know you had a child.” The mother asked, and Charlie bit his lip slightly at the question.
“Yeah she is. I don’t like to bring her up much, I prefer to keep her life as private as possible.” Charlie told her and the woman nodded, an understanding smile on her face. As if she knew they were talking about her, Margaux lifted her head off Charlie’s shoulder, turning to look at her dad, before focusing on the two strange faces in front of her.
“Oh you’re such a cutie.” The woman complimented and Margaux grinned, snuggling her head into Charlie’s neck.
“Thank you.” She mumbled, and Charlie grinned. It was a rare sight to see Margaux shy around strangers, the little girl was normally one to be confident. Clearly when she was sleepy it was a different story.
“4341?” The girl behind the counter called and Charlie glanced down at the receipt in his hand, seeing it was his number.
“That’s us, excuse me for a moment.” He said, before walking over to the counter to grab the food.
“You keep this safe baby.” Charlie handed the bag to Margaux who nodded eagerly, clearly excited with the job she had been give.
Charlie turned back to the girl serving, taking the drinks from her and smiling despite the fact she couldn’t see it through his mask.
“Have a lovely evening.” She said, and he nodded.
“You too.” He replied, walking back over to the young fan and her mother.
“We’re gonna head out, but before I go, did you want to take a photo or something?” Charlie questioned, and the girl shook her head.
“No it’s okay, she looks really comfy and I wouldn’t want to disrupt her.” She said, glancing at Margaux who had the bag clutched to her chest and her head back on Charlie’s shoulder.
“Are you sure?” Charlie checked, and the girl nodded.
“Yeah positive, I have the memories. And don’t worry, if I mention meeting you I won’t mention the little one.” She told him, and Charlie breathed a sigh of relief.
“Thank you.” He said, and she smiled.
“No problems at all. Have a good night.” She replied.
“You too, it was lovely meeting you. Both of you.” Charlie said, his tone genuine.
With one last goodbye Charlie and Margaux headed out of the restaurant and back to his car, placing the drinks on the front seat before moving to put Margaux in her car seat.
“Who was that Daddy?” She asked as he buckled her in, placing the bag of food back on her lap so that she could continue her special job.
“Just some friends baby.” He told her. Margaux nodded slightly.
“Okay... Can I have my nuggets now?” She asked, and Charlie chuckled, shutting her door and climbing into the drivers seat.
“As soon as we get back baby.” He promised. “As soon as we get back.”
Charlie was up before the sun the next morning, packing the bag and putting it in the car before taking a still sleeping Margaux and checking out.
He clipped Margaux into her seat gently, trying not to disturb her, and decided to go live for a few minutes before he left the motel while he ate some breakfast quickly, angling the camera so that Margaux couldn’t be seen. And then as he pulled out of the car park he ended live, opting to play music quietly instead.
Margaux slept for hours, and by the time she woke up they were only a couple of hours out of Oklahoma.
“Daddy?” Her voice came from the backseat, and Charlie grinned, looking at her through the mirror.
“Hey! Good morning baby. Did you sleep well?” He said, and Margaux nodded.
“Yeah, I was dreaming that we were in a boat and there was a horsey there and he was really mean but then you told him not to be mean and he said sorry and I got to play with him.” Margaux rambled sleepily, and Charlie smiled softly.
“That sounds really good baby.” He said and Margaux made a noise in response.
“Are we gonna be there soon?” She asked, and Charlie glanced at the GPS.
“About two more hours.” He told her, and Margaux frowned.
“Is that a small time?” She questioned. Charlie chuckled slightly before answering her.
“It’s a little bit long but not much. We’ll be seeing Papa before you know it.”
-
Just over two hours and one late lunch and toilet break later, Charlie pulled into the parking garage of Owen’s apartment building, using the code that Owen had sent him, and parked in front of Owen’s new car.
“Ready?” He asked, turning in his seat only to find Margaux fast asleep again, her favourite toy penguin clutched in her arms.
He chucked slightly, climbing out of the car and walking around to lift Margaux out of her seat gently, so that he wouldn’t wake her.
He shut the door and locked it, walking over to the stairwell and putting in a different code. He carried her up the stairs and wandered along a hallway until he reached the door of Owen’s apartment, knocking gently.
The door opened revealing Owen, and his eyes lit up when he saw Charlie and Margaux on the other side.
“Hey!” He whispered, and Charlie grinned.
“Hey, missed you.” He replied. Owen pulled them into the apartment.
“I have a room for Maggie, but I want you to see it when she sees it so we’ll put her on my bed for now.” Owen said, dragging Charlie down the hallway to his room, where Charlie placed Margaux down onto the bed, tucking her in and kissing the top of her head gently.
“Sounds good. You can watch her and I’ll go grab the bags and bring them up.” Charlie said once he had stood back up. Owen smiled, glancing down at Margaux before looking back up at Charlie.
“Okay.” He agreed, and Charlie turned to leave the room, but was stopped by Owen’s voice.
“Hey Charlie?” He said, and Charlie turned back.
“Yeah?” He questioned.
Owen stepped closer, placing a soft kiss to Charlie’s cheek.
“I’m glad you’re here.”
-
An hour later and Margaux was awake again and bouncing off the walls with excitement and energy.
“Can I see it now?” She begged, jumping on the spot in front of Owen, and Charlie regretted letting her have a cup of Fanta with her late lunch.
“Okay, you ready?” Owen agreed, and Margaux cheered. Owen led them to a door off to the side of where his bedroom was, and Charlie smiled at the clearly handmade name plate on the door, with Maggie written in a neat pink cursive.
“Open it, open it!” Margaux begged, grabbing onto Charlie’s leg with excitement, and Owen obeyed, opening the door to reveal a small bedroom, painted a soft pastel pink. There was a white bed in the middle of the room, and fairy lights strung around, and a bookshelf filled with children’s books. And in the corner was a small wooden chest, clearly filled with toys.
“Do you like it?” Owen asked nervously. Margaux’s face lit up and she rushed into the room, instantly jumping on the bed.
“I wanna stay here forever!” She exclaimed, and Charlie grinned, wrapping an arm around Owen.
“I’d say that’s a yes.” He joked, and Owen bit his lip.
“But do you like it?” He asked, eyes full of hope. Charlie nodded.
“I love it. You didn’t have to do this much for her though.” He said softly, glancing around the room as Margaux excitedly explored.
“I wanted to. Remember what you told me in Hawaii? That I’m her parent too and that we’re a little family? Well this is what a parent would do.” Owen shrugged slightly and it took everything in Charlie not to kiss Owen in that moment.
“Thank you.” He whispered instead, and Owen bit his lip, hesitating like he wanted to say something but ultimately decided against it. Eventually he settled on a small smile.
“Any time.”
Later that night Margaux was tucked into her new bed after finally coming down from the excitement and slight sugar high. Charlie and Owen had showered, and had made themselves comfortable in Owen’s bed, Charlie’s head on Owen’s chest as the younger boy flicked through Netflix, trying to find them something to watch.
“This okay?” Owen asked after a moment and Charlie hummed in agreement, not even checking what Owen had decided on, too content with listening to Owen’s heartbeat.
The movie started in the background, but Charlie’s whole focus was on Owen, and how much he had missed being snuggled up to the younger boy, the only scent a mixture of spearmint, body wash and something so uniquely Owen. It was intoxicating.
“What’s going on in that head of yours?” Owen’s voice snapped him out of his daze, and he shifted slightly.
“Just really fucking missed you, that’s all.” Charlie mumbled, instantly relaxing when Owen’s fingers threaded through his hair.
“It was only a month.” Owen replied, and Charlie sighed.
“I know, but still. I wanna be with you all the time.” He said. Owen took a deep breath.
“About that...” He started. “I tried to tell you this at New Year’s but-”
“Daddy?” Margaux’s voice came, and Owen swore under his breath. Charlie sat up, whatever Owen was going to say would have to wait.
“What’s up baby?” He asked, as Margaux climbed up onto Owen’s bed and into her father’s arms.
“Missed you.” She mumbled, her face pressed into Charlie’s bare chest. “Wanna sleep here.”
“Okay but only for tonight, okay?” Charlie compromised, and Margaux nodded.
“Into bed then.” Charlie instructed, wriggling over to allow Margaux to slide into the bed between him and Owen.
“Sorry O, we’ll talk tomorrow, okay?” Charlie said, and Owen sighed, but nodded nonetheless.
“Sounds good.” He mumbled, flicking the TV off and laying down on Margaux’s other side. Charlie frowned at the sudden darkness, but laid down anyways, reaching across Margaux to grab Owen’s hand, linking their fingers.
“Night O, love you.” He whispered.
“Love you too.” Owen whispered back after a moment. “And love you Maggie.”
“Love you Papa, love you Daddy.” Margaux chimed in.
“Love you baby girl.” Charlie finished, placing a kiss on Margaux’s head as the four year old shifted to grab onto him like a koala. Charlie wrapped an arm around her before snuggling closer to Owen.
This was it, he thought as he drifted off. This was his happy place.
The next day started with making pancakes, before moving into Margaux’s new room to play with some of her toys and get her used to the idea of sleeping in there alone.
Not much later Margaux decided she was hungry, and Charlie and Owen stood up to go chop up some fruit for the little girl.
Charlie trailed behind Owen as they headed into the kitchen, working in silence as they chopped the fruit up.
“I’m ready.” Owen blurted out. Charlie put down the knife and turned to him, confused.
“Huh?” He questioned. Owen took a deep breath.
“Staying with you at Christmas I realised that I’m ready. Ready to give this a shot, and call you my boyfriend, and kiss you whenever I feel like it and not just occasionally with an awkward apology afterwards. I was gonna tell you on New Years Eve but I got interrupted by the countdown, and then I left the next day and I lost the confidence to tell you, so I just didn’t. I didn’t realise it would be a whole month until I saw you again though. And then when I saw you yesterday I thought about telling you, but it felt like the wrong time. And then I tried to tell you last night but Maggie interrupted us and climbed into bed.” Owen paused. “So now I’m telling you, before anyone else can interrupt. I’m ready.”
“You’re sure?” Charlie checked, and Owen nodded.
“There is something I want to add but I’m gonna wait until you agree to be my boyfriend.” He said, and Charlie couldn’t stop the large smile that appeared on his face.
“Owen I’ve wanted to be your boyfriend since we were filming.” He replied, and Owen grinned.
“So that’s a yes then?” He asked.
Charlie stepped forward, crashing his lips against Owen’s. After a moment he pulled away, pressing their foreheads together.
“That’s a massive yes.” He whispered and Owen kissed him again, but pulled away just as Charlie tried to deepen the kiss, causing the older boy to whine.
“Before we get too caught up...” Owen trailed off. “I just want this to stay between us for a while, if that’s okay with you.”
“That’s completely fine.” Charlie agreed, leaning in to kiss Owen once more but Owen pulled back.
“We can tell our families and friends when we’re ready, and I’d rather not tell the fans...” He rambled.
“Owen, I said it’s fine.” Charlie laughed, pulling Owen back in to kiss him again, a gentle peck on his lips. “Although I will warn you, Jeremy and Carolynn kinda already know that I’m in lo- that I liked you, and I’m pretty sure my mum knows too. Oh and Kenny was kinda cryptic in Hawaii, so I think he knows too.”
“My mum and sister know. I kinda had a breakdown one night and exploded the whole thing on them and admitted that I had feelings for you and that you had feelings for me and just told them everything.” Owen admitted. Charlie raised an eyebrow.
“What did they say?” He questioned.
“That they already knew. Luka said it was obvious, and Mum told me that she knew from the minute I met you that I had a crush on you. She said she figured it out after bootcamp. I wish she’d told me, cause I didn’t figure it out til the wrap party for filming.” Owen said, grabbing a bowl and putting the fruit they had already cut into it.
“I figured it out at the aquarium. You know when we spent the whole day holding hands? And my stomach was just constantly in knots. And then that night when you went to bed, you kissed my cheek and it was like it just hit me.” Charlie took the bowl from Owen, and turned to leave the kitchen when Owen spoke again.
“Wait, are we gonna tell Margaux?” Owen questioned, and Charlie stopped, thinking.
“I think we should.” He said after a moment, and Owen nodded.
“Okay.” He agreed. “Let’s do it.”
-
Trying to figure out how to explain a relationship to a four year old was a difficult thing to do.
“Hey Mags? We have something to tell you.” Charlie started, once they were settled back into her room, the bowl of fruit in her lap. She looked up.
“Yeah?” Charlie took a deep breath.
“Papa and I are dating. Do you know what that means?” He asked. Margaux shook her head.
“No.” She said, eating a piece of apple quietly,
“It means Daddy is my boyfriend, and we like each other very much.” Owen tried to explain.
“Oh, I know that.” Margaux said, and both Owen and Charlie exchanged confused looks.
“How can you know? It only just happened.” Owen questioned.
“But you kissed Daddy at the airport.” Margaux frowned.
“Well, yeah... But we weren’t dating then.” Charlie said. Margaux put the apple back into the bowl and grabbed a piece of banana instead.
“Why?” She asked after a moment.
“Why what?” Charlie questioned.
“Why weren’t you?” She elaborated.
“Um...” Charlie hesitated. “We just hadn’t decided to yet.”
“Okay.” She went silent. “Can I have a boyfriend?”
“Absolutely not.” Charlie said, as Owen cackled with laughter, the serious mood evaporating.
“Why not?” Margaux pouted. “I want a boyfriend too.”
“You’re four!” Charlie exclaimed. Margaux nodded.
“Yeah! I’m a big girl now.” She stated. Charlie shook his head, trying to ignore Owen’s wheezing laughter beside him.
“No boyfriends. Or girlfriends.” Charlie said, and Margaux frowned but accepted the answer. A moment later her eyes lit up again as she looked up at Charlie.
“Are you gonna get married like Mamie and Pépère? And Uncle Jer and Aunty Care?” She questioned, and Owen sobered up quickly.
“Not yet.” He answered, and Charlie stared at him for a few moments, before shaking his head with a smile.
“Maybe one day.” Charlie added. Margaux seemed to like that answer.
“Okay.” She said, grabbing a chunk of watermelon from the bowl.
“Margaux you can’t tell anyone that we’re dating, okay? It’s a secret.” Charlie said seriously, and Margaux grinned, her mouth full of fruit.
“Okay! I’m a good secret keeper.” She mumbled and Charlie smiled.
“You are.” He agreed.
“After my fruit can we watch Julie?” She questioned, and both boys smiled in agreement.
“Of course we can.” Charlie agreed, taking Owen’s hand in his.
His boyfriend’s hand.
Charlie was never going to get tired of that.
-
Jeremy arrived bright and early the next morning, bringing McDonalds breakfast for all of them.
“Uncle Jeremy!” Margaux squealed, jumping down from her spot on a chair at the bench, while Charlie made himself coffee, and rushing over to greet the third phantom.
“Hey Little Gillespie!” Jeremy replied with just as much excitement, ruffling the four year old’s hair as she clung to his leg. “I missed you.”
“Look how big I got.” Margaux boasted, puffing her chest.
“So much bigger, I almost didn’t recognise you.” Jeremy agreed, and Margaux giggled to herself.
“Daddy says I can’t have a boyfriend.” She informed Jeremy, who laughed.
“I don’t blame him.” He said, heading into the kitchen to place the food on the bench.
“But I want a boyfriend.” Margaux whined, trailing after him.
“Not happening.” Charlie stated, helping her back onto the chair and opening the McDonalds bag.
“So Little Gillespie, if you did get a boyfriend who would it be?” Jeremy asked, taking food from Charlie to place on the bench.
“Hmm...” Margaux paused, her eyes lighting up after a moment. “Tay!”
“Tay as in Taylor Kare?” Charlie questioned and Margaux nodded.
“Yeah!” She giggled. Charlie sighed, dropping his head onto the bench. Jeremy laughed, patting him on the back.
“Or Papa.” Margaux added, a thoughtful look on her face.
“You’re gonna have to fight your dad for that one.” Jeremy joked, and Charlie shook his head, smiling, as he handed Margaux a hashbrown.
“Fight her dad for what?” Owen questioned, entering the room.
“To be your boyfriend.” Jeremy informed him as Owen grabbed one of the cups of orange juice.
“Oh, you told him?” Owen asked, and Charlie’s eyes widened.
“No.” He said softly and Owen choked on his juice.
“Fuck.” He muttered under his breath.
“Wait so you’re actually dating now?” Jeremy asked, eyes flicking between the two of them.
“Shh! Not allowed to tell.” Margaux exclaimed. Owen sighed.
“It’s okay Maggie, he knows now.” He told her. Margaux looked up at Charlie eagerly.
“Did I keep the secret good Daddy?” She questioned. Charlie smiled, placing a gentle kiss on her head.
“You did an amazing job baby.” He agreed.
“So, how long?” Jeremy asked, taking a bite of his bacon and egg McMuffin.
“Yesterday. Although it would have been longer if the stupid New Years countdown didn’t interrupt me telling Charlie that I was ready to give things a shot.” Owen said, picking at the hotcakes he had chosen.
“Wow, Care and I assumed it would happen a lot earlier than that, after how things were in Hawaii.” Jeremy told them, and Owen shook his head.
“It was my fault, I wasn’t ready to commit to doing anything that might ruin our friendship. It wasn’t until after Christmas Eve when we fu...” Owen trailed off, realising what he was about to say probably wasn’t appropriate. “We uh, yeah, that I figured we were already too far gone and that I really didn’t want to wait any longer.”
“And now I know far too much about your s-e-x life.” Jeremy groaned and Margaux squinted at him.
“What does that spell?” She questioned, and Charlie grabbed another hashbrown for her.
“Nothing important baby.” He said quickly, handing her the hashbrown and effectively distracting her.
“Anyways, Jer, you can’t tell anyone. You’re the only one who knows, other than Maggie.” Owen told him seriously and Jeremy nodded.
“You have my word for it. One condition though.” He said, and Charlie and Owen both raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah?”
“Please do not do any gross couple shit around me.” Jeremy sighed. “I do not need to see you two sucking each others faces.”
“Ew.” Margaux mumbled through a mouthful of hashbrown. Charlie and Owen exchanged a look, clearly thinking the same thing.
“We’ll try.” Owen started.
“But we can’t make any promises.” Charlie finished.
Jeremy groaned slightly, his head falling into his hands as Charlie snaked an arm around Owen’s waist.
“It’s gonna be a long weekend, isn’t it?”

“Papa!” Margaux screamed, racing across the airport to Owen, the blond boy scooping up the nearly four year old and spinning her around when she reached him.
“Maggie! I’ve missed you so much.” Owen exclaimed, pulling his mask down to pepper her cheeks with kisses, causing Margaux to giggle loudly. “Where’s your Daddy?”
“Right behind you.” Owen spun around to find Charlie standing there, clearly smiling at him despite the bandana that covered his mouth, and Owen’s heart skipped a beat at how good Charlie looked in the early morning sun streaming through the airport windows.
Meanwhile Charlie was thinking the exact same thing, admiring how attractive Owen was, especially when he was in his dad mode. He really understood why girls had such a weakness for cute boys with cute kids when he saw Owen with Margaux.
Charlie stepped forward, pulling Owen into a tight hug and Margaux whined in complaint at being squished between her dad and her self declared papa. They pulled away from each other, both boys fighting to hide their slightly flushed cheeks.
“I’m hungry.” Margaux whined, and Charlie was snapped out of his heart eyes daze, his whole focus back on his daughter.
“Let’s get some food into you before our plane leaves then eh.” He replied, and Margaux nodded happily.
Feeling bold Owen grabbed onto Charlie’s hand, lacing their fingers together. It wasn’t unusual for them to do this but it was the first time doing it when they were well known enough that someone might recognise them. But neither of them really cared. They were just happy to be back together again.
The minute they arrived in Hawaii they were met with fans. As much as he loved meeting the fans Charlie couldn’t help but sigh slightly as he tried to protect Margaux as much as he could.
It wasn’t that the fans didn’t know about Margaux, because it was a well known fact that he was a single dad, it was more that he wanted to keep her away from the spotlight. She hadn’t asked for her dad to become a well known actor, and she didn’t deserve to have her life changed because of it. He was determined to give her the most normal life possible.
Eventually they made it to the villa house that they were staying in while in Hawaii, and after throwing their bags into their rooms it was time to have a bit of fun.
“Swim time swim time!” Margaux sung, running laps around the living room. Kenny chuckled at the small girl, looking up at Charlie who was following closely behind her.
“It seems like only yesterday she was a tiny two year old who cried every time you left her side.” He said, and Charlie smiled fondly, sitting down on the chair next to Kenny.
“She’s growing up too fast.” He agreed. “I can’t believe in less than 24 hours time I’ll be a dad to a four year old.”
Margaux tripped on the tiles, landing with a clatter, her bottom lip jutting out. Charlie jumped up, but before he could even think about moving across the room Owen was by Margaux’s side, helping her up and pulling her into a tight hug. He whispered something in her ear and Margaux giggled loudly, her fall already forgotten.
Charlie smiled softly at the scene, his heart filled with love for both the blond boy and his little princess.
“Daddy.” Margaux called, snapping Charlie out of his daze.
“Yeah baby?” He answered, finally making his way across the room.
“Can we swim now?” She asked, grabbing onto his leg. Charlie subconsciously ran his hand through her soft curls.
“Of course we can.” He replied. Margaux glanced up at Owen.
“Papa too?” She questioned.
“Papa too.” Charlie agreed. Margaux peered past him, her gaze landing on Kenny.
“Coming Uncle Kenny?” She asked, and Kenny laughed, standing up.
“Coming Little Gillespie.” He replied.
Margaux smiled contently, taking both Charlie and Owen’s hands to pull them outside towards the pool.
She really did have every single one of them wrapped around her little finger.
Dinner that night was special, as it was supposed to be Carolynn’s last day on the island. They decided on a joint party for her last night, as well as celebrating Margaux’s birthday a day early.
They had headed to a tiny restaurant near their villa, and Charlie had allowed Margaux to pick whatever she wanted from the menu, not that it mattered because she chose chicken nuggets and chips anyways.
The meal was nice, and before they knew it they were arriving back at the villa. Jeremy, Carolynn and Kenny all excused themselves for bed, and Tori settled into the couch, flicking the TV on.
“Bath and bed time baby.” Charlie told Margaux, and she pouted but obeyed, following him into the hallway.
“Hey Char, can I ask you something?” Owen asked, trailing behind the father daughter duo, and Charlie stopped, letting Margaux run ahead to their room.
“Anything.” He smiled.
“Do you mind if I share your room? I know the other bed was meant to be for Margaux but-” Owen started, playing with his fingers slightly.
“She can share with me.” Charlie cut him off. “Bed’s all yours.” Owen looked up, his eyes widening.
“Really?” He checked.
“Of course.” Charlie smiled. Owen grinned, throwing his arms around Charlie’s neck.
“Thanks Char. I just didn’t really want to sleep alone.” He admitted, and Charlie squeezed him tight.
“Any time.” He told Owen, and the blond boy pulled away with a smile, before heading off to the room he was originally going to stay in to collect his bags.
Charlie entered the room that he and Margaux, and now Owen, were sharing, finding his daughter already snuggled into one of the beds, still wearing her dinner clothes. Charlie sighed, moving to pull her out of the bed. Owen entered the room, bags in tow, and Margaux looked up at him excitedly.
“Papa! Are you sleeping here?” She questioned. Owen placed his bags in the corner before answering.
“I am Miss Maggie.” He said, and Margaux cheered.
“You don’t mind sleeping with Daddy?” Charlie checked, and Margaux shook her head, jumping up to throw her arms around Charlie’s neck.
“Nope! More cuddles!” She stated. Charlie laughed, picking her up.
“Exactly right. Now, it’s bath time.” He said, grabbing Margaux’s pyjamas as she clung to him.
“Bye Papa!” Margaux called as Charlie moved to leave the room. Owen waved.
“Bye Maggie!” He replied, matching her enthusiasm. Charlie couldn’t help but smile.
Margaux was so lucky to have someone like Owen in her life. They both were.
“Daddy! Wake up!” Margaux screamed, jumping on top of Charlie. He groaned, squinting as he looked up at his daughter.
“What time is it?” He mumbled. Owen sat up in his own bed, grabbing his phone to check the time.
“4:47am.” He informed Charlie, his voice thick with sleep. Charlie tried to ignore how sexy Owen’s morning voice was, instead focusing on his daughter.
“Mags it’s too early to be awake.” He told her. Margaux pouted, flopping down on top of him.
“Daddy, it’s my birthday!” She exclaimed. Charlie smiled, kissing her cheek.
“I know baby, happy birthday. Now can we sleep for a little bit?” He tried. Margaux thought for a moment.
“Only if Papa comes here too.” She decided.
Charlie’s eyes widened slightly, eyes fixed on Owen as the younger boy sleepily slid out of his bed with no hesitation, and into Charlie’s, snuggling into Charlie’s side the minute he laid down. Margaux squirmed her way under the covers, squishing herself in between the two of them.
Charlie shut his eyes in an attempt to get back to sleep, but it was no use. He opened his eyes again, staring up at the ceiling, as Margaux slept soundly next to him.
His mind was racing, noticing every single little place where Owen’s warm skin was in contact with his. It felt like he was on fire.
“Stop thinking.” Owen mumbled, and Charlie turned his head to see Owen staring at him, his eyes half shut with sleep.
“How did you know?” He questioned. Owen gave him a small smile.
“I always know. Whatever it is, just ignore it for now. Get some sleep, it’s gonna be a big day.” Owen whispered. Charlie paused for a moment, just staring at Owen in the dim light from Margaux’s nightlight. Even half asleep in the almost complete darkness of the room Owen still looked gorgeous. Charlie swallowed.
“You’re right. Thanks O.” He replied.
“Love you.” Owen yawned in response, his eyes shutting again. Charlie smiled softly, moving his hand to brush a bit of Owen’s hair off his face.
“I love you too Owen.” He replied, despite the fact that the younger boy was already asleep. He pressed a soft kiss to Owen’s head, and lowered his voice to no more than a whisper.
“More than I probably should.”
After what felt like no time at all Charlie was being shaken awake again.
“Daddy is it time to get up now?” Margaux questioned, sitting on his chest. Charlie yawned.
He reached over and checked his phone. It was just after 6:30am.
“Okay we can get up. But we’re gonna leave Papa to sleep a little bit more, okay?” Charlie compromised. Margaux thought for a moment before agreeing. Charlie grinned, sliding the both of them out of the bed careful not to wake Owen. Once they were out of the bed Charlie lifted Margaux up, placing her on his hip. He pressed a soft kiss to her temple.
“Now. Let’s go make some birthday pancakes.”
“Happy birthday Little Gillespie.” Jeremy sung, entering the kitchen with Carolynn close behind him.
Margaux grinned, her mouth full of pancake.
“Thank you!” She exclaimed, her words muffled by her food. Carolynn stepped past Jeremy, moving to place a gentle kiss on Margaux’s head and whisper to her. Margaux grinned before looking up at her father.
“Hey Daddy?” She spoke. Charlie made a noise in response.
“Yeah?” He said, flipping pancakes onto a plate for both Jeremy and Carolynn.
“Do you think the birthday fairy could found me here?” Margaux questioned, her eyes full of hope. Charlie couldn’t help but smile, not even bothering to correct her words, as he placed the pan down.
“Should we go find out?” He asked. Margaux’s eyes widened in excitement.
“Yeah! But first we have to get Papa.” She decided. Charlie nodded.
“You wanna go wake him up? Tell him we made him some pancakes?” He asked, and Margaux grinned, already sliding out of her chair.
“Okay Daddy!” She replied, before rushing out of the room. The room fell silent for a few moments before Carolynn cleared her throat.
“So Charlie...” She raised an eyebrow. “How long have you been in love with Owen?”
Charlie choked on his coffee.
“I’m sorry, what?” He spluttered. Carolynn grinned.
“You heard me.” She said. Charlie hesitated.
“I’m not-” He stopped. “I-”
He groaned. There was no use denying it if clearly he was obvious enough that his friends had figured him out.
“Since filming.” He admitted. Carolynn cheered.
“You owe me $20.” She told her husband, who glared at Charlie.
“You just had to admit it, huh?” Jeremy shook his head, and Charlie shrugged, a small smile on his face.
“Admit what?” Owen’s voice came from behind them, deep from sleep, and Charlie took a sip of his coffee to try to distract himself. Owen always looked good but in the early morning light, his hair still a mess from sleeping, he looked ethereal. Charlie bit his lip to stop himself from staring.
“Nothing important.” Carolynn replied, and Charlie shot her a thankful look.
“Can we see if the birthday fairy visited now?” Margaux sighed, clearly impatient. They all laughed.
“Of course baby.” Charlie told her, standing up. He grabbed the plate of pancakes he had made for Owen, handing them to the younger boy as he passed him.
Margaux lead the way to the living area where Kenny and Tori were already sat waiting, squealing with excitement when she saw the small pile of presents on the table.
“They came!” She exclaimed, and Charlie couldn’t help but smile, ruffling her hair affectionately.
Margaux settled down on the couch as everyone spread out around the room, and one by one she opened the presents, eyes widening with excitement at every single one.
Charlie had gotten her a few dolls that he knew she had been wanting, plus some new clothes, books and other toys.
Jeremy and Carolynn had gotten her a small paint set with a Frozen paint by numbers.
Kenny had gotten her a tiny version of the Sunset Curve shirt that the cast had all received.
Tori had gotten her a little lilac tutu.
Madi, Jadah and Savannah had sent their presents, some handmade earrings, little stud versions of the ghost drawings that Carolynn had created from Madi, a small pair of overalls from Savannah, and a colouring book from Jadah.
But her absolute favourite gift had come from Owen, a tan coloured bear from Build-A-Bear that he had dressed like Luke, and the clothes to change the bear into Reggie, Alex and Julie if she wanted to.
After hugs all round the group decided to go their own ways, with Kenny heading off to spend the day relaxing, and Tori, Jeremy and Carolynn going to the beach to sunbathe since Carolynn’s flight had been delayed.
“Where do you want to go today birthday girl?” Charlie asked, as he and Owen collected the pile of gifts to move them back to their room.
Margaux frowned in thought, the bear still grasped in her arms.
“Hiking.” She decided, and Charlie laughed. She was definitely his daughter.
“You sure? We can do whatever you want to do.” He checked. Margaux nodded, her attention focused on her new clothes that Charlie had placed on the bed to fold later.
“I’m sure.” She said, reaching for the Sunset Curve shirt and overalls. “Can I wear this?”
“Of course you can.” Charlie agreed.
“I’m gonna have a quick shower.” Owen said, grabbing some clothes out of his bag. Charlie nodded, focused on helping Margaux change out of her pyjamas into her new clothes.
“Do you think we can have some time tonight just you and me?” Charlie asked once Margaux was dressed, moving to grab her hairbrush and some hair ties.
“Yes please Daddy.” Margaux agreed, sitting on the edge of the bed as Charlie sat behind her.
“We could go get dinner just the two of us, and then come back here for birthday cake.” He suggested. Margaux frowned, clearly thinking.
“Is it chocolate cake?” She asked after a moment, and Charlie paused from brushing her hair to kiss the top of her head.
“You’ll have to wait and see.” He teased. Charlie finished tying her hair up into two little space buns, not quite proper buns but as close as he could get with her shortish hair.
“I hope it’s chocolate cake. I love chocolate cake.” She giggled, standing up on the bed and turning around to hug her father. Charlie wrapped his arms around her, a gesture that was so safe and familiar.
“Me too baby, me too.” He agreed. Margaux snuggled her head into his shoulder.
“Is Papa coming hiking?” She questioned. Charlie grinned to himself.
“Do you want him to come?” He asked. Margaux didn’t even hesitate.
“Yes.”
“Then I’m sure he’d love to come.” Charlie assured her. She pulled away. looking him in the eyes. Charlie had always loved that she had gotten his eyes.
“Do I ask him?” She said, eyes wide. Charlie struggled to contain a laugh at how serious she looked.
“When he comes back, yeah.” He nodded.
“When who comes back?” Owen asked, re-entering the room. Margaux jumped up, throwing herself at the 20 year old. He lifted her up with no hesitation.
“Are you gonna come hiking?” Margaux asked, her bottom lip jutting out in a pleading way.
“Of course I am. Wouldn’t want to miss spending time with my two favourite people.” Owen grinned, kissing her nose causing her to giggle. Charlie’s heart skipped a beat at the declaration that he was one of Owen’s favourite people.
“Yay! Can we go now?” Margaux turned in Owen’s arms to face her father. He nodded, standing up from the bed.
“Shoes, and then we can go.” He said, and Margaux squirmed her way out of Owen’s arms to go find her running shoes.
Charlie exchanged a look with Owen, the both of them thinking the same thing.
It was going to be a long day.
Hiking with a just turned four year old was exhausting, even despite them choosing the easiest possible trail so that she wouldn’t have any issues.
It was fine at first, Margaux excitedly looking at the plants and trying to spot any animals in the trees, but after about twenty minutes she got bored and tired, and Charlie and Owen spent the rest of the hike passing her back and forth between the two of them.
Finally they made it back to the villa, and after a quick stop for lunch Margaux was recharged and ready for the rest of the day.
“Can we swim?” She asked. Charlie nodded.
“We’ll go and get changed, and then we can go in the pool for a while until we have to get ready for dinner, okay?” He suggested.
“Okay Daddy.” Margaux smiled sweetly.
-
After quickly changing into their swimmers, Charlie, Margaux and Owen ended up in the pool, Jeremy and Carolynn lounging nearby.
They swam for a few hours until Margaux got thirsty, and with a promise of apple juice she and Charlie climbed out of the pool leaving Owen to go sit with the Shada’s.
Charlie walked inside the villa, finding Kenny sat at the kitchen bench reading while Tori lounged on one of the couches, staring at her phone.
“Why don’t we do cake now, so that you don’t have to worry about rushing home?” Kenny spoke up, as Charlie manoeuvred through the kitchen to get the apple juice out, Margaux clinging to his chest like a baby koala.
“That’s a good idea. Do you want to do your birthday cake now Mags?” Charlie asked his daughter, pouring her some apple juice. She sipped on the juice, looking up at him with wide eyes.
“Yeah!” She exclaimed. Charlie smiled.
“Okay, can you go get Papa, Aunty Care and Uncle Jer for me?” He asked, placing her down. She nodded eagerly, handing her cup of juice to him before rushing outside to where Owen, Jeremy and Carolynn were still sat.
Charlie grabbed the cake out of the fridge and placed it on the bench, before putting the four candles in, and grabbing a lighter.
“Have you seen my camera Kenny?” He asked, and Kenny just pointed to the end of the bench where the camera was sitting. Charlie smiled gratefully, grabbing the camera.
“Want me to take photos?” Tori offered, and Charlie nodded, handing her the camera.
Margaux re-entered the room, Owen and the Shada’s following close behind her, and when she reached her father he lifted her up. Kenny took the lighter, lighting the candles on the cake and together they sung Happy Birthday to Margaux, Tori snapping photos as the four year old blew out her candles.
Charlie held Margaux close to him as Kenny divided the cake up, thankful that he had such an amazing family to spend his little girl’s birthday with.
-
When Charlie and Margaux made it back to the villa after their dinner that night, the newly four year old was ready to fall asleep. Charlie carried her to bed, silently thanking his past self for deciding to give her a bath and do her birthday cake before they went to dinner because now all he had to do was change her into her pyjamas.
He changed her quickly seeing that she was almost asleep, and tucked her into the bed.
“Did you have a good birthday baby?” Charlie asked softly, settling down next to his daughter.
Margaux just nodded in response.
“That’s good.” Charlie ran a hand through her curls. “Goodnight baby girl.”
“Big girl.” Margaux mumbled sleepily. Charlie smiled, leaning down and kissing her head.
“You might be a big girl now but you’ll always be my baby girl.” He whispered. “I love you.”
“I love you too Daddy.” Margaux replied, her eyes already shut and her arms wrapped tightly around her new bear. Charlie stood up slowly and headed to the door, leaving it open a crack for a little bit of light to shine in.
He paused for a moment, just taking in the reality that Margaux was already four years old, and that she was growing up too fast. With one last look at the door he made his way down the hallway and outside to where he knew Owen was waiting.
“She’s asleep.” He announced, flopping down on the outdoor sofa next to Owen.
“I’m not shocked, she’s had a big day.” Owen replied, handing Charlie a cold beer that he had clearly gotten for him. Charlie took it thankfully, taking a large swig.
“Can you believe that she’s four already? It feels like she was only just born and I was waking up to find out that her mother was gone and that it was only me and her. It was terrifying at the time, but looking back I wouldn’t change it for the world.” He rambled. Owen rested his head on Charlie’s shoulder and Charlie wrapped his arm around the younger boy, pulling him closer.
“You should be proud of yourself Char. You’ve done an amazing job.” Owen complimented, snuggling closer to Charlie as he took a mouthful of his beer.
“You think so?” Charlie questioned. Owen nodded against his shoulder.
“I know so.” He sat up. “Margaux is the most well behaved kid I’ve ever met, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her misbehave once in all the time I’ve known her. She’s an amazing kid and it’s all because she has the most amazing father.”
“Thank you.” Charlie whispered, suddenly realising how close Owen was to him. He could feel Owen’s warm breath on his lips, and he found himself leaning in, the urge to kiss Owen overtaking his entire being. His lips brushed against Owen’s ever so slightly, but before they could properly commit to the kiss they were interrupted.
“Hey, we’re gonna play...” Tori’s voice came and they jumped apart quickly. She trailed off, eyeing them carefully. “Were you two about to kiss?”
Charlie cleared his throat. Owen’s eyes widened.
“Uh... no?” Owen lied. Tori shot them a suspicious look but clearly decided against pushing.
“Right... well we’re gonna play Cards Against Humanity if you want to join us.” She told them, before turning and heading back inside. Neither Charlie nor Owen moved, the silence was deafening. Finally Owen spoke.
“Sorry.” He muttered quickly, before standing up and rushing inside. Charlie groaned, watching him leave, the feeling of Owen’s lips still lingering on his own.
“Fuck.” He sighed, downing the last of his beer before standing up to join the rest of the group inside.
He would have to deal with the Owen situation later.

Charlie gripped onto Owen’s hand tightly as they made their way across the car park to the entrance of the aquarium, Margaux held safely in his arms. He had taken Owen’s hand at first, claiming that it was so they wouldn’t lose each other, but they both knew that was a lie, the car park was almost empty.
Margaux had been begging to visit the aquarium ever since the three of them had watched Finding Dory together on a rainy Saturday afternoon, and Charlie was never one to be able to refuse his daughter.
So now, on their first full day off from filming, Charlie had found the nearest aquarium and had packed Margaux and Owen into the car for a family bonding day.
As they walked Margaux chattered away about what she wanted to see at the aquarium, and neither Owen nor Charlie had the heart to tell her she probably wouldn’t find a whale in the middle of Vancouver. Instead they just let her excitedly dream about what she might find in the large white building.
Reaching the entrance to the aquarium Margaux squirmed in Charlie’s arms.
“Walk Daddy?” She asked, and Charlie placed her down, taking her hand instead.
“Hi there, do you have a booking?” The girl behind the front desk asked, a smile on her face.
“Yeah we do, under Charlie Gillespie.” Charlie responded. The girl began to type before nodding.
“Awesome, here are your wristbands.” She held out the three bands, which Owen took since he had a spare hand. The girl smiled at them.
“Have a lovely day.” She told them, and both Charlie and Owen returned her smile.
“We will, thank you.” Charlie replied.
They stepped off to the side so that they could put their wristbands on, Charlie smiling to himself when Owen linked their fingers again after Charlie had finished putting Margaux’s wristband around her tiny wrist.
“You ready Maggie?” Owen asked as the three of them entered the first room of the aquarium.
“Yeah!” Margaux grinned up at them. She tugged her hand out of Charlie’s rushing over to the nearest tank with a large smile on her face.
“Look at this one Daddy.” She called, and Charlie pulled Owen along with him as he made his way to Margaux’s side.
“Do you know what that one is?” He asked, looking into the tank. Margaux looked up at him, eyes full of curiosity.
“No.” She replied. Charlie smiled.
“It’s called a stingray.” He told her. Her eyes widened in excitement.
“Hi stingray!” Margaux smiled, leaning closer to the tank. She giggled, looking up at her dad and Owen.
“He’s pretty.” She said.
“He is.” Owen agreed, staring at Charlie, and Charlie felt his heart skip a beat, his mind racing. He opened his mouth to reply, but Margaux was already tugging them towards the next tank.
He’d figure out Owen later, for now he was ready to watch the excitement on the face of his baby girl.
“Papa look at that penguin.” Margaux tugged on Owen’s hoodie, her other hand pointing towards a penguin who was swimming in front of her. Charlie’s heart filled with warmth at the name she had for Owen. It was a new adjustment, her dropping Owen’s name and just calling him Papa instead of Papa Owen, but it was one that both Owen and Charlie loved.
Charlie watched the two of them with a smile, Owen kneeling down next to Margaux and the three year old leaning against him. He was so glad that Owen had been so accepting of Margaux, there had been a part of Charlie that had figured that Owen wouldn’t want anything to do with the toddler. He was only 20 after all, and Charlie wouldn’t have blamed him one bit if he had preferred to do normal 20 year old things, but no, Owen had adopted the role of babysitter, and then eventually another parent to Margaux easily.
Charlie’s heart swelled with an unfamiliar feeling as he moved closer, his hand resting on Owen’s shoulder automatically. He had begun to notice this feeling around Owen quite a lot recently, but he was yet to figure out exactly what it was.
“Char?” Owen’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts, and he glanced down, finding both Owen and Margaux staring up at him with expectant eyes. Charlie’s eyes lingered on Owen for a moment, the sight of the blond boy on his knees in front of Charlie bringing less than appropriate thoughts into his mind. He swallowed quickly, his eyes focusing on Margaux.
“Sorry wasn’t listening, what’s up?” He asked.
“Can we go to the tunnel?” Margaux said, looking up at her father with pleading eyes.
The tunnel was an area of the aquarium where you could walk underneath a large glass tunnel and watch fish, sharks and more swimming above you and around you, like you were inside the water with them. Margaux had been desperate to go in since they had arrived.
“Yeah of course we can.” Charlie replied and Margaux squealed with excitement. The family of three headed back upstairs to the entrance of the tunnel, Margaux leading the way happily.
“You okay? You seem distracted.” Owen asked softly, linking his hand with Charlie’s again. A brief thought flicked through Charlie’s mind that they had been holding hands for longer than they hadn’t been that day.
“Just got a lot going on in my head.” Charlie replied. Owen gave him a sympathetic look.
“Wanna talk about it?” He said, and Charlie hesitated. How could he explain to Owen that all of the thoughts in his head were about him? How could he explain the weird feeling in his heart and stomach whenever the blond boy was around?
“Later.” He told Owen, mostly so that Owen wouldn’t ask any more questions. Owen gave his hand a light squeeze as they entered through the gates of the tunnel.
“Okay.” Owen whispered, before turning his attention back to Margaux. Charlie did the same, smiling down at his daughter who was looking up in awe.
“Woah, look, shark!” Margaux grinned, pointing to the large shark swimming above them.
“What’s the name of the shark in Finding Nemo?” Owen muttered quietly, leaning towards Charlie. Charlie chuckled quietly.
“Bruce.” He whispered back.
“It’s Bruce.” Owen said in a normal volume. Margaux looked up at him.
“No Papa, it’s Daddy Shark.” Margaux shook her head at Owen, an unimpressed look covering her face, and Charlie couldn’t help but laugh at the sass that was radiating from her response.
“They might be the same shark, you don’t know that.” Owen fired back. Margaux squinted at him.
“No.” She stated. Owen raised an eyebrow.
“No?” He repeated. Margaux nodded, turning back to the sharks.
“You’re silly.” She stated and Owen’s jaw dropped. He turned to Charlie, pouting.
“Char! Your kid is sassing me.” He whined. Charlie laughed, ruffling Margaux’s curls. Margaux grinned cheekily.
“So I hear.” He replied. “And she won.”
“Daddy, carry me?” Margaux asked, and Charlie obeyed quickly, lifting her into his arms. She smiled, placing a gentle kiss on his cheek.
“Love you.” She whispered. Charlie’s heart almost exploded.
“I love you too baby.” He replied. “More than anything.”
Once they were finished in the tunnel, Margaux had started to snuggle into Charlie’s arms, her head on his shoulder, a telling sign that the three year old was getting tired.
“You tired baby?” Charlie asked softly as they headed up the stairs to the ground floor of the aquarium. Margaux nodded.
“Yeah.” She replied.
“Time to go home?” Charlie said, mostly directing his question to Owen, who was walking along beside him, still gripping onto Charlie’s hand.
“Looks like it.” Owen agreed. They headed through the building, arriving at the small gift store at the exit.
“Do you want a present?” Charlie rested his head on Margaux’s. The three year old eyed the stuffed toys across the store sleepily.
“Yes please Daddy.” Margaux smiled softly at him. Owen let go of his hand, motioning towards a display of aquarium branded hats and Charlie rolled his eyes slightly but nodded to let Owen know he understood. Owen headed off and Charlie walked over to the wall of stuffed toys.
“Which one?” He asked, and Margaux sat up in his arms, scanning the toys. Her eyes landed on a small, white polar bear and she reached out for it. Charlie grabbed it off the shelf and handed it to her.
“This one?” He questioned. Margaux just hummed in response, already snuggling back into his arms, the polar bear clutched to her chest. Charlie’s heart swelled as he made his way over to Owen, and they checked out quickly before leaving and heading home for a well deserved nap.
Later that evening, after dinner, a bath and some play time, Charlie was tucking Margaux into her bed, the three year old exhausted from the day. He picked up the stuffed bear that they had bought at the aquarium, holding it out to the toddler.
“Here’s your polar bear.” He said. She took it happily.
“His name is Fishy.” She said, and Charlie held back a laugh.
“Fishy?” He questioned, sitting on the edge of the bed. Margaux nodded.
“Uh-huh. Cause he likes eating them.” She explained. Charlie made a face of understanding.
“So we should call you nuggets and pizza then?” He teased.
“No!” Margaux giggled.
“What about macaroni?” He suggested. Margaux squealed with laughter.
“No, I’m Margaux.” She said through laughs. Charlie’s heart was filled with love hearing her laughter. It really was the most incredible sound he’d ever heard.
“Oh, well that’s a better name than nuggets pizza macaroni.” Charlie grinned. Margaux giggled.
“Silly Daddy.” She said. Charlie laughed at the three year old.
He lent down, kissing the top of her head gently.
“Okay, time for sleep baby girl.” He told her. Margaux pouted slightly.
“Stay?” She asked, snuggling down into her bed, Fishy the polar bear held tightly in her arms. Charlie nodded, he could never say no to that request.
“Always.” He replied, laying down in the small space next to her.
“Love you Daddy.” Margaux mumbled. Charlie smiled, placing another kiss to her head.
“I love you too princess.” He whispered.
He played with her curls, singing softly, and in no time at all Margaux was fast asleep and Charlie was sneaking out of her bed and heading back down the hall to the lounge room where he had left Owen.
He sat down on the couch, the blond boy instantly wriggling closer to cuddle into him. Charlie glanced towards the TV, noting that Owen had loaded up the movie they had started watching a few nights ago, but had never finished. He pressed play, leaning into Owen wordlessly, and for the rest of the movie they just snuggled quietly.
As the credits rolled Owen sat up, and Charlie shivered at the loss of warmth.
“Thanks for today, I really needed it.” Owen mumbled, clearly sleepy.
“Me too. I’m glad you came.” Charlie admitted, watching as Owen’s cheeks flushed at the comment. Owen swallowed before talking again.
“And now I’m exhausted.” He said. Charlie reached out, ruffling his hair.
“Get some sleep, I want to take you and Mags to this really nice cafe I found for breakfast.” He told the blond, and Owen nodded, standing up.
“Sounds great.” Owen yawned again, leaning down to kiss Charlie’s cheek, and Charlie felt his heart speed up at the contact.
“Night Char, love you.” Before Charlie could even reply Owen had left the room, leaving Charlie on the couch, his heart still fluttering from the kiss.
The kiss. Oh.
Oh.
He was so fucked.

Charlie and Margaux’s four days in Oklahoma passed quickly, and before Charlie knew it he was waking up on the morning of their last day.
And like every morning for their time in Oklahoma, Charlie woke up curled into Owen’s chest, the taller boy’s arms wrapped around him tightly. Charlie didn’t know how he was going to be able to sleep without Owen beside him.
“Owen.” Charlie whispered quietly, brushing a stray strand of hair off Owen’s forehead and placing a soft kiss on his jaw. Owen’s eyelids fluttered as he stirred.
“Hmm?” He mumbled. Charlie kissed his cheek.
“Wake up. We leave in a few hours.”
“Stay.” Owen squeezed him tighter, placing a sleepy kiss on Charlie’s forehead. Charlie sighed at the contact.
“You know we can’t.” He said softly. Owen opened his eyes for the first time, giving Charlie his best puppy eyes.
“Please?” He begged.
“O...” Charlie hesitated, wishing he could say yes but he knew they had to go home.
“It’s fine.” Owen sighed, shutting his eyes. “Go back to California and leave me here.”
“Why don’t you come with us?” Charlie questioned.
“To LA?” Owen asked, his eyes opening again. Charlie nodded.
“Yeah. We can get an apartment together, just like in Vancouver, so that way you’ll be with me...” He cleared his throat. “I mean, with Margaux, all the time. Or you could just stay at our current place and share my bedroom, I wouldn’t mind. I kinda really like waking up with you.”
“I'll have to think about it, if that’s okay?” Owen replied. Charlie smiled softly.
“Of course it’s okay.” He agreed. Owen smiled.
“Thanks.”
They fell into a comfortable silence, before Charlie spoke up again.
“I did actually have something to ask you though.” He said, and Owen raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah?” He prompted.
“Mags and I are staying in LA for Christmas this year, just the two of us, and I was hoping you’d join us? Margaux would love to have you there... Fuck it, I would love to have you there too.” Charlie explained. Owen stared at him for a few moments, and Charlie could practically see the gears turning in his brain.
“You want me to spend Christmas with you?” He asked after a moment.
“Only if you want to of course.” Charlie said quickly, and Owen bit his lip.
“I don’t know Char, I’ve never celebrated Christmas away from my family before.” He admitted.
“Oh, then in that case, don’t worry.” Charlie gave him a small smile.
“Charlie...” Owen said softly, but Charlie shook his head, silencing the younger boy.
“It’s fine, I just thought I’d offer.” He said. Owen frowned.
“Sorry.” He mumbled.
“No need to apologise.” Charlie told him, trying to ignore the stinging feeling of rejection in his chest. He knew that if he was in Owen’s position he probably wouldn’t want to spend Christmas away from his family either. But Charlie was in a different place to Owen, he has his own family, and as long as he was with Margaux for Christmas it didn’t matter where he was. Maybe they should come back to Oklahoma for Christmas...
“Should we, uh, should we get breakfast?” Owen questioned, shaking Charlie out of his thoughts and Charlie realised they had been laying in silence while he thought. He cleared his throat.
“Sounds good.” He answered.
Owen rolled out of his bed without another word, stepping over Margaux’s sleeping body to leave the room. Charlie sighed, watching him go.
Once again he’d overstepped and freaked Owen out. Great way to end their trip.
Two hours later Charlie was fully packed, and had agreed to let Margaux take Bindi for one last walk before they left.
He put her padded coat on, since it was quite chilly outside, and with a glance towards the kitchen to see if Owen was joining them, Charlie ushered Margaux and Bindi out of the house.
“Daddy, will Bindi forget me?” Margaux questioned as they left the driveway. Charlie shook his head, holding tightly to Margaux’s hand, her other hand holding Bindi’s lead.
“Of course not baby. How could she forget her bestest little friend?” He reassured the four year old. Margaux nodded, satisfied.
“Will she miss me?” She asked.
“I bet she will.” Charlie agreed.
“I’m gonna miss her.” Margaux pouted.
“Me too. We’ll come back and see her soon, okay?” Charlie told her, once again considering a change of Christmas plans.
“Okay.” Margaux agreed happily.
Charlie laughed slightly as Bindi tugged Margaux along the path, the four year old struggling slightly to keep the large dog from pulling her over.
“Daddy?” Margaux spoke again as they reached the end of the street.
“Yeah?” Charlie replied, checking for cars before leading Margaux and Bindi across the road.
“Can we get a puppy?” Margaux asked, and Charlie hesitated.
“We don’t really have room for a puppy baby.” He told her. She pouted for a few seconds before a new idea hit her.
“Oh. What about a horsey?” She asked, eyes wide, and Charlie grinned.
“I think horseys need a little bit of room too. Why don’t we think a little bit smaller?” He suggested, already knowing that the second they arrived in LA they would be making a trip to the pet store.
“A pony?” Margaux frowned and Charlie laughed.
“Bit smaller. And if you say a baby pony I’m gonna tickle you so much.” He teased and Margaux squealed.
“No tickles.” She giggled.
“What about if we get a fishy? Does that sound good?” Charlie suggested, and Margaux considered it for a few seconds.
“A blue one?” She asked, and Charlie smiled.
“I’m sure we can find a blue one.” He agreed.
“Yay!” Margaux cheered. “Bindi, I’m getting a fishy.”
They stopped at a park, Margaux and Bindi running around together until Margaux got tired and came back over to Charlie, Bindi trailing behind her. Charlie picked her up with ease, Bindi’s lead in his other hand, and started the walk back to Owen’s parents house.
“Let’s go back to Papa’s house and get ready to go home.” Charlie said as they walked. Margaux whined.
“Don’t wanna go home.” Margaux mumbled, her face pressed into Charlie’s shoulder. Charlie sighed.
“Me neither baby, me neither.”
The ride to the airport was quiet, the only sound Margaux happily singing along to the Julie and the Phantoms soundtrack that she had requested Owen put on for her. They pulled into the parking lot and once the car was stopped Charlie took a deep breath.
“I guess we’ll see you around then.” He said, his voice sounding flat. Owen frowned.
“You don’t want me to walk you in?” He asked. Charlie shrugged.
“Figured you didn’t want to, since you haven’t spoken to me since this morning.” He replied and Owen’s eyes narrowed.
“You didn’t make much effort to talk to me either. You left on a walk without even asking if I wanted to join.” His tone was cold.
“I’m not fighting with you in front of...” Charlie trailed off, glancing in the rear view mirror at Margaux, who seemed oblivious to their argument, too busy peering out the window to see the planes.
“I’m coming in.” Owen stated, unclipping his seatbelt. Charlie rolled his eyes.
“Fine.” He grumbled.
“No need to sound so fucking enthusiastic.” Owen muttered, and Charlie shook his head as Owen climbed out of the car to grab the bags.
Charlie opened his mouth to reply but shut it quickly, not wanting to cause more drama. When he had thought about leaving Owen again, he really didn’t picture it going quite like this.
They sat at the gate in silence until finally the announcement came that it was time for Margaux and Charlie to board the plane.
“Okay baby, say bye to Papa.” Charlie instructed as he stood up. Margaux wrapped her arms around Owen from her position in his lap.
“Bye Papa, I love you.” She said. Owen hugged her back, placing a soft kiss on her head.
“Love you too darling. I’ll see you soon, okay?” He replied, and Margaux looked up at him with big eyes.
“Promise?” She asked. Owen nodded.
“Promise.” He replied.
Owen stood up, placing Margaux on the ground and she looked at her father expectantly.
“What?” Charlie asked, seeing the look on her face.
“Say bye to Papa.” She prompted and Charlie shook his head at her bossiness.
“Bye Owen.” He said simply. Owen sighed.
“Bye Charlie.” He replied.
“Don’t forget to hug.” Margaux said, and Charlie couldn’t help the small smile that appeared on his face. He pulled Owen in, wrapping his arms around the taller boy.
“I’m sorry.” Owen mumbled into his neck. Charlie shook his head.
“No, I’m sorry, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have overreacted.” He replied. Letting Owen go, Charlie gave him a sad smile.
“I’m gonna miss you.” He admitted.
“I think I’m gonna miss you two more.” Owen replied. His eyes flicked to Charlie’s lips for a second, and with a quick glance around to see if anyone was watching them, he lent in, placing a quick kiss on Charlie’s lips. Charlie’s eyes widened, but before he could respond Owen was pulling away.
“Ew.” Margaux mumbled and Charlie chuckled. He took her hand, knowing that they had to get on the plane before he either decided to stay or jumped on Owen to kiss him senseless. He figured the airport probably wasn’t the best place for that. They made it to the flight attendants who scanned their boarding passes.
“Charlie!” Owen called, just as they were about to head down the tunnel to the plane, and Charlie turned back around. Owen gave him a massive grin before speaking again.
“I’ll see you for Christmas.”

Leaving Hawaii was difficult. Charlie had made so many amazing memories, both with Margaux, and with Owen, Jeremy, Kenny and Tori, and leaving felt like the end of a chapter. He had no idea when he’d get to see most of them again.
He glanced across at Margaux, who had her face pressed to the window of the plane, and he couldn’t help but snap a quick photo of her.
Hearing the camera sound Margaux looked back, a large smile appearing on her face when she looked at her father.
“Are we there soon?” She questioned. Charlie nodded.
“Only a little bit longer and we’ll be there.” He replied.
It was their second flight of the day, travelling from Hawaii to L.A., before catching a connecting flight to Oklahoma to stay with Owen for a few days.
Charlie had wanted to drive from L.A. to Oklahoma, but figured it would be easier to just fly, knowing that Margaux would get restless with the long drive.
Margaux settled, her face against the glass again, and within less than an hour the plane was descending and they had landed in Oklahoma City.
Charlie made quick work of getting Margaux off the plane and they headed out to the baggage collection area where they would be meeting Owen. Charlie glanced around, not seeing Owen, but Margaux was quick to find him, pulling her hand out of Charlie’s so that she could sprint across the airport and jump into Owen’s arms. Charlie smiled, deciding to grab their bags first before also making his way over to Owen.
“Hey.” Charlie greeted simply as he reached Owen. “Missed you.”
Owen grinned.
“Missed you too Char.” He replied.
“Can we go see Bindi?” Margaux asked, and Owen nodded, his eyes still focused on Charlie.
“Of course we can.”
He lead them outside to where his car was parked, and a thought hit Charlie.
“How are we supposed to...” Charlie trailed off as Owen opened the door, answering his unfinished question. “You bought a car seat.”
“Well yeah... Figured it would come in handy.” Owen shrugged, clipping Margaux into the seat with ease. Charlie hid a smile as he placed his bag in the car and climbed into the passengers side, remembering how long it had taken Owen to figure out how children’s car seats worked.
Owen hopped into the car,
“Now... anyone hungry?”
-
An hour later Owen pulled his car into the driveway of his parent’s house, their stomachs full of McDonalds.
Charlie slid out of the car, opening Margaux’s door and letting the four year old out of her seat.
“About time.” A voice came, and Charlie looked up to see Owen’s mum standing at the front door, a large smile on her face.
“Oma!” Margaux screamed, running towards the woman. Charlie smiled, watching Owen’s mother scoop Margaux up and squeeze her tight.
“Oh you’re getting so big Bug.” She said, placing Margaux on her hip to get a better look at her.
“Yeah cause I’m four now.” Margaux told her, and Owen’s mum laughed.
“That must be why.” She agreed. Margaux nodded.
“Where’s Bindi?” She asked, and Charlie shook his head slightly at the one track mind of his four year old.
“I think she’s in Owen’s room.” Owen’s mum said, and Margaux glanced at Owen with a excited look on her face.
“Papa’s room?” She questioned.
“Yeah, your Papa’s room. Should we find her?” Owen’s mum asked and Margaux nodded quickly.
“Yeah!” Margaux exclaimed.
Charlie and Owen followed behind as Owen’s mum carried Margaux into the house and down the hallway to Owen’s room, where Bindi was laying in the middle of the floor.
“Bindi!” Margaux exclaimed, squirming her way out of her grandmother’s arms to run over to the dog. Bindi tilted her head, looking at Margaux as the four year old threw her arms around the dog.
“Gentle Mags, remember?” Charlie said and Margaux nodded, moving to pat Bindi before kissing the top of her head.
“Hi Bindi, I love you.” She said, squealing as Bindi licked her face.
“She kissed me!” She exclaimed. Charlie laughed, sitting down on the ground.
“That means she likes you.” He explained, reaching out and patting Bindi.
“I like her too.” Margaux smiled. “Do you think she will play with me? I can throw balls good, I practiced for her.”
“Should we go outside and see?” Owen asked from his spot leaning against the door frame. “I’m sure she’d love to play with you.”
“It’s a bit cold.” Charlie said, looking up. Owen rolled his eyes.
“You’re such a dad. She has a jacket Char, she’ll be fine.” He teased and Charlie couldn’t help but smile.
“Fine, but you’re making hot chocolate when we come back inside.” He said and Owen nodded quickly, letting Margaux and Bindi lead the way, the large dog already following every move that the four year old made, as if she knew that this little human was going to be an important part of her life.
And as Charlie sat on a chair in Owen’s backyard, watching Margaux run around with Bindi, he couldn’t help but appreciate how amazing his life really was.
-
“Daddy look!” Margaux ran into the living room later that night, her hair in messy pigtails that she had clearly done herself, since he had left her hair down after her bath.
“Wow, did you do that all by yourself?” Charlie questioned, ignoring the tightness in his chest.
“Yeah! Did I do it good?” Margaux replied, crawling into his lap and he placed a gentle kiss on her head.
“You did an amazing job baby. Are you ready for bed?” He asked, and Margaux shook her head.
“I don’t wanna.” She said, before yawning. Charlie bit his lip to stop himself from laughing at the contradiction.
“Why not?” He questioned, twirling a bit of hair that Margaux had left out of her pigtails around his finger.
“Wanna play with Bindi.” She mumbled, her head resting on Charlie’s chest. Charlie rubbed her back.
“You can play with Bindi tomorrow, okay?” He compromised and Margaux thought for a moment before nodding.
“Okay Daddy.” She agreed. Charlie mentally patted himself on the back for the win.
“Bed time?” He whispered, and Margaux nodded again.
“Okay.” She replied. Charlie stood up, carrying her over to Owen’s mum so that she could say goodnight, leaning down when he reached the woman on the couch.
“Night night Oma.” Margaux said and Owen’s mum kissed the top of her head.
“Goodnight Bug.” She replied. Charlie stood back up and Margaux peered over his shoulder.
“Night night Bindi.” She called.
Charlie carried her from the room, Owen trailing close behind them. They reached Owen’s room and Charlie placed Margaux down onto the inflatable mattress that she was sleeping on for the night. He pulled the blanket up over her, before placing a soft kiss on her head.
“Goodnight baby.” He whispered. Margaux wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Night night Daddy. Love you.” She said, and Charlie smiled softly.
“Love you too baby.” He replied. Margaux let go and he stepped back, letting Owen crouch down next to her bed.
“Night night Papa. Love you.” Margaux threw her arms around Owen, and he hugged her back, placing a kiss on her cheek.
“Goodnight darling, I love you too.” He told her, before also standing up. The two of them stepped out of the room, turning the light off and leaving the door cracked for light. Charlie let out a large breath and Owen eyed him carefully.
“Charlie?” Owen spoke, and Charlie turned to the blond boy.
“Yeah?” He responded.
“Can we talk?” Owen asked and Charlie nodded.
“Yeah sure, where?” He questioned, and Owen thought for a moment.
“Outside? We can put a fire on.” He suggested and Charlie smiled.
“Sounds good.” He agreed.
Charlie followed behind Owen as the taller boy led the way outside and over to the fire pit. He directed Charlie to sit as he grabbed some wood, placing it into the pit and lighting it with ease.
Once the fire was well and truly burning Owen settled down next to Charlie, and Charlie sighed, moving so that his head was in the younger boy’s lap.
Owen glanced down at him.
“You wanna talk?” He asked hesitantly.
“She did her own hair.” Charlie said simply, and Owen frowned.
“Yeah, and?” He said. Charlie shut his eyes for a moment.
“It was the first time she’s done it. I always do her hair for her.” He explained, and Owen’s eyes widened in understanding.
“You think she’s growing up too fast.” He said, and Charlie sighed again.
“She’s just...” He groaned. “Yeah.”
Owen’s fingers were in his hair, scratching at his scalp, and somehow it was the most relaxing thing Charlie had ever experienced, the tension from the evening melting away, and his fears of Margaux growing up too fast pushed to the back corners of his mind.
“Hey Char?” Owen’s voice came, and Charlie hummed in response.
“Yeah?” He asked.
“What was it like, the day she was born?” Owen questioned.
Charlie smiled softly at the memory.
“Well...”
————————————
Charlie was a dad. He had known this day was coming since the minute his sort of girlfriend Jane had showed up at his door with a positive pregnancy test, but the fact that he was standing in a hospital room, the tiny baby held tightly in his arms, suddenly made everything real.
He was only young, barely out of high school, but he knew with all of his heart, body and soul that he would protect this little girl, his little girl, for the rest of his life.
“What are you going to name her?” Jane’s voice came, almost sounding annoyed, but Charlie brushed it off as her being tired.
He looked up at the blonde woman sitting in the hospital bed.
“Well, you liked Abbie...” He trailed off.
“No, what you want to name her.” Jane said firmly.
“Me?” Charlie questioned, confused. Jane nodded once. Charlie glanced back down at the baby.
“I always loved the name Margaux, but you hated it.”
Jane was silent, the look on her face sour, like she wished he’d just make a decision.
“I’m naming her Margaux.” He looked down at the baby, who was watching him with her eyes half shut, slowly falling asleep in her father’s arms. He smiled, already so in love with her.
“Margaux Ivy Gillespie.”
——————————————
“Looking back, I realise how obvious it should have been that she wasn’t going to stick around.” Charlie sat up, but stayed close enough to Owen that their arms were still touching.
“Am I allowed to ask about that or?” Owen bit his lip. Charlie sighed.
“No it’s okay, I don’t mind talking about it. I’ve just never mentioned the full story to anyone before, so maybe don’t go telling anyone.” He said and Owen held out his pinkie for a pinkie promise.
“I won’t, I promise.” He agreed, as Charlie linked their pinkies for a few seconds. When they let go Charlie started to speak again.
“So Margaux was born on a Thursday, we brought her home Friday, and I woke up Saturday morning and Jane was gone...”
——————————————
“Good morning baby.” Charlie’s voice was soft, something he had found himself doing a lot in the last few days. He lifted the tiny baby out of her bassinet.
“Where’s your mum, huh? Has she gone to get breakfast without us?” He asked, even though he knew that Margaux wouldn’t reply. She blinked sleepily at him.
“Let’s go see if we can find her. But first, we should change that nappy of yours.” Charlie laid her down on the change table in the corner of the room and made quick work of changing the dirty nappy and wiping Margaux clean, before putting a new nappy on and wrapping her in a swaddle and lifting the baby back into his arms.
“That’s much better isn’t it?” He cooed. “Now, let’s go find Mum.”
He left the bedroom, walked down the small hallway of the apartment and entered the kitchen, spotting a note on the table. He lifted it up, reading the words out loud.
“Charlie, I know this is going to be hard on you and the baby but I have decided to leave you. I’m not ready to be a mother, and staying here would only make things worse. I’m really sorry. Thank you for being a great boyfriend. Good luck with the baby. Jane.” He read, his heart sinking. He put the note down, his eyes landing on Margaux.
“Looks like it’s just you and me, huh baby?” He joked, knowing that was the only way to stop himself from freaking out and crying. Literally overnight he had become a single dad to a three day old baby. He was 18, he didn’t know what babies needed.
As if he was on autopilot he pulled his phone out, clicking his mum’s contact name.
“I need you to come over, right now.” He said once she answered. He could barely even register her answer, zoning out until the knock came at the front door ten minutes later.
He somehow made it to the door and let her in, directing her to the note in the kitchen.
She sighed after she finished reading it, placing the note down and looking at her youngest son, her eyes filled with sympathy.
“Oh Charlie.” She said softly, and that was enough to finally set off Charlie’s tears.
Clearly sensing her father’s discomfort, Margaux let out a cry of her own.
His mother just sighed softly, pulling Charlie into a hug, careful not to crush Margaux, and directed her son to the couch, and Charlie just let himself cry. He needed it.
-
Once they were both settled down, a cup of tea in hand for Charlie and a warm bottle of milk for Margaux, Charlie’s mother spoke up.
“You know, you can always-“
“No.” Charlie interrupted. His mother raised an eyebrow.
“You don’t even know what I was going to say.” She protested. Charlie shook his head.
“You were going to suggest adoption. And I’m not doing it.” He stated. His mother sighed.
“Charlie, you’re 18. You have your whole life ahead of you. She needs a home that can take care of her.” She said, and Charlie frowned.
“I can take care of her. I’m not letting her go.” He defended.
His mother sighed yet again.
“I know that you want to be there for her, but honey, that might not be the best idea. You don’t know anything about being a parent, let alone a single one. If you really care about her you’ll want to give her the best life possible.” She said.
“I can give her the best life possible, you can help me. You had five kids, you know what you’re doing.” He decided. His mother frowned.
“Charlie...” She tried. Charlie shook his head, placing his tea down on the table and shifting Margaux slightly.
“No Mum, I’m not changing my mind, I’m doing this. I’m keeping Margaux and that’s it. There’s no discussion to be had here.” He said firmly. His mother eyed him carefully before speaking.
“Okay. But if you change your mind-“
“I won’t.” He interrupted.
“But if you do, that’s okay. You’re not doing the wrong thing by giving her up.” Her voice was soft, but Charlie wasn’t having any of it.
“Trust me, I can do this. We’re gonna be the best team ever, aren’t we Mags?” He smiled down at the baby, who just blinked.
“We’ll figure this out together, I promise I’m never going to let you go.”
——————————————
“And now here we are four years later.” Charlie finished.
“Did you ever hear from her again?” Owen questioned, and Charlie shook his head.
“Never. Didn’t even try to contact her for child support. I didn’t want her money. And I most definitely didn’t want her to be a part of Margaux’s life.” He answered, and Owen shook his head slowly, as if trying to fully understand the situation.
“That must have been so hard, I can’t even imagine going through something like that alone.” He said eventually, and Charlie nodded.
“It was hard, especially since my acting career was just getting started. For a while I thought maybe she might realise that she did love us and come back, but she never did. I’m glad though, what kind of fully grown adult leaves a 18 year old kid with a newborn baby?” He said. Owen gave him a curious look.
“Fully grown adult? How old was she?” He asked.
“She was 25. I was 17 when she found out she was pregnant, and 18 when Mags was born. Looking back that’s kinda fucked up.” Charlie answered.
“Kinda? Charlie she was like 7 years older than you, and you were a minor when she got pregnant. The fact that you slept with her, even if it was consensual is technically statutory rape, and it’s definitely grooming.” Owen frowned.
“I know.” Charlie sighed. “I honestly think that’s why she left. Not the bullshit about not wanting to be a mum, but because she was scared of getting caught out.. Anyways, I ended up moving to LA, which my family told me not to do, so then it was just me and Margaux. And it stayed just being the two of us until we met you.” He said.
“I’m glad you met me.” Owen whispered.
“I’m glad too.” Charlie replied. His gaze dropped to Owen’s lips for a few seconds, he hadn’t realised they were so close together. His eyes met Owen’s again and without even realising it he lent in.
Owen cleared his throat and Charlie jumped back, shaking his head slightly.
“Sorry. I’m, uh, I’m gonna go to bed.” He said quickly.
“Charlie...” Owen started, but Charlie had already stood up.
“Night Owen.” He said quickly, rushing back inside before Owen could stop him.
And as he pulled his pyjamas on and climbed into Owen’s bed on the side closest to Margaux, his mind was racing with thought of the blond boy he had left behind outside.
This waiting around for Owen to figure everything out was going to be harder than he had anticipated.

December 23rd - 9pm
“Papa!” Margaux exclaimed, running over to Owen as he exited the plane. “You’re back!”
“I am.” Owen grinned, scooping up the four year old to give her a hug. “Isn’t it past your bed time missy?”
“Daddy let me stay awake to see you!” Margaux told him, and Owen smiled at the mention of Charlie.
“I’m glad. Where is Daddy?” He asked. Margaux pointed and Charlie waved from his spot on a chair.
“Over there.” She said, and Owen grabbed his bag that he had dropped in his haste to grab Margaux before heading over to Charlie.
“Hey handsome.” Charlie grinned. Owen blushed slightly.
“Hi.” He replied. “Missed you.”
“Missed you more. Ready to go home and have a good sleep?” Charlie questioned and Owen nodded, visibly relaxing at the mention of sleep.
“I really am.” He agreed. Charlie smiled, taking Owen’s bag.
“Great. Let’s get out of here.”
-
Margaux fell asleep in the car on the way home, so once they arrived Charlie took her straight to bed. He pulled her door closed, leaving just enough of a gap to let the hallway light creep into the room, before heading down the hallway to where Owen was stood in the living room. Charlie glanced up, grinning when he noticed that Owen had fallen right into his trap.
“What are you smiling about?” Owen questioned. Charlie smiled.
“Look up.” He said, and Owen obeyed, Charlie walking closer as he did.
“Mistletoe? Really?” Owen raised an eyebrow and Charlie shrugged, a cheeky grin on his face.
“Figured it would be my only chance to kiss you.”
Owen rolled his eyes, leaning in and kissing Charlie on the cheek.
“Happy?” He asked.
Charlie pouted, grabbing Owen’s shirt and dragging him in, connecting their lips in a forceful kiss. Owen’s back hit the wall, his hands finding a place on Charlie’s waist. Charlie bit at Owen’s lip and Owen groaned, allowing Charlie to slip his tongue into Owen’s mouth.
Owen pulled away, panting, and pressed his forehead to Charlie’s.
“Is Maggie fully asleep?” He murmured against Charlie’s lips. Charlie nodded.
“Yes.” He replied. Owen grinned.
“Good.”
And with that he grabbed Charlie’s shirt, dragging him to the bedroom.

December 24 - Christmas Eve
Charlie woke the next morning, still naked and tangled up in Owen’s arms. He opened his eyes to find Owen already awake, playing on his phone.
“You’re awake.” Owen said, placing his phone down. Charlie hummed in response. Owen bit his lip.
“So last night was...” He trailed off.
“Yep...” Charlie replied simply. Owen hesitated.
“I don’t usually hook up with people I’m not dating.” He admitted.
“Well at least you can’t get pregnant.” Charlie joked.
“Hmm.” Owen replied, clearly not amused by Charlie’s joke. Charlie frowned.
“O?” He spoke.
“Yeah?” Owen replied.
“Do you regret it?” Charlie asked. Owen sighed.
“I don’t know Char. Remember what I said in Hawaii? I’m just not sure if I’m ready to do... this.” He said. Charlie’s heart sunk.
“But sex is okay?” He questioned, somewhat bitterly. As much as he loved Owen he wasn’t about to enter into some friends with benefits situation.
“It was a one time thing.” Owen mumbled.
“Oh...” Charlie’s voice was small, and for a moment he considered wriggling out of Owen’s grip.
“Please don’t shut me out like in Norman.” Owen begged. Charlie hesitated.
“I won’t. I just don’t fully understand.” He said.
“Charlie...” Owen sighed. “Look, I don’t know about you-“
“But I’m feeling 22.” Charlie interrupted. Owen bit back a smile.
“No, you dork. I’m trying to be serious here.” He said, and Charlie moved so that he could see Owen’s face.
“I’m listening.” He assured Owen. Owen took a breath.
“Look, I’m not out to anyone. I have no clue what I am, and before I met you I’d never even considered being with a guy. But I met you and everything changed. I guess technically you were my sexual awakening.” He explained. Charlie traced a pattern on Owen’s arm.
“You don’t need to have a label, I don’t. Just love who you want to love.” He said, and Owen sighed.
“I just need a bit more time to figure this out.” He spoke after a short pause.
“And you can have it. But can I at least get one last kiss? And promise me we won’t stop snuggling.” Charlie put on his best puppy eyes and he could see Owen caving.
“We could never stop snuggling.” Owen said. “And as for the kiss...”
He lent in, pressing a gentle kiss to Charlie’s lips, pulling away with a grin when Charlie tried to deepen the kiss.
“There.” Owen grinned and Charlie groaned.
“You have no idea what you’re doing to me.” He muttered.
“Oh I have a bit of an idea.” Owen smirked, his gaze drifting downwards towards Charlie’s naked bottom half. Charlie blushed slightly, swatting at Owen’s chest.
“Shut up, you know that you can’t control morning wood.” He defended, slightly embarrassed that Owen could feel that he was hard.
“I know.” Owen grinned cheekily. “You should probably fix that though. I’ll go wake up Maggie.”
He climbed out of Charlie’s bed, still naked from the night before, and made a big show of finding his boxers, knowing that Charlie was watching his every move. He found them and pulled them on, grabbing a pair of Charlie’s sweatpants and putting them on too before turning to look at Charlie.
“Have fun.” He winked, before leaving the room, and Charlie in it. Charlie let his head flop down onto the pillow with a sigh, and not for the first time considered the fact that Owen was literally going to be the death of him.
-
Charlie entered the kitchen a little bit later and ignored the look Owen gave him, instead heading over to Margaux and wrapping his arms around her.
“Good morning baby, happy Christmas Eve.” He greeted. Margaux grinned, her mouth full of froot loops.
“Daddy! Santa comes tonight.” She exclaimed, and Charlie nodded, matching her excitement level.
“He sure does, are you excited?” He asked and Margaux nodded quickly.
“Yeah!” She squealed. Charlie ruffled her hair, turning his attention back to Owen.
“Do you have plans today O? Mags and I are gonna go to the Mall to get a photo with Santa.” He questioned. Owen nodded.
“I actually have some last minute shopping to do.” He said. Charlie smiled.
“Cool, you can come with us and go off while we do our photo then.” He suggested, and Owen nodded.
“Great.” He said.
“Daddy?” Margaux spoke up.
“Yeah baby?” Charlie glanced down at the four year old, who was looking at him in concern.
“What happened to your neck? Did you bump it while playing?” She asked innocently.
Charlie’s eyes widened, and Owen choked on his tea.
“Yeah baby, Daddy fell over.” Charlie agreed.
“Silly Daddy.” Margaux giggled.
“Yeah, silly Daddy. Why don’t you go find your Christmas scrunchie for Daddy to put your hair up?” Charlie said, trying to distract her, and it worked.
“Ooh okay!” Margaux grinned, climbing out of her chair and running to her room.
“You gave me a fucking hickey?” Charlie said once he knew Margaux was out of earshot.
“In my defence... yeah no I don’t have one.” Owen giggled. Charlie glared at him.
“Fuck you Joyner.” He muttered.
“We already did. Last night.” Owen winked, rushing out of the room before Charlie could even register his cheeky words and process what just happened.
-
A few hours later and Charlie and Margaux were lined up ready to get their Santa photo taken. They reached the front of the line and the photographer gave them a welcome smile.
“Okay sweetie are you ready to meet Santa?” The photographer asked and Margaux nodded.
“Yeah.” She said. The photographer smiled.
“Great, Dad are you gonna be in the photo?” She questioned.
“Yeah I am.” Charlie replied.
“Okay cool, just head on through.” She instructed, and Charlie carried Margaux in, sitting down on the allocated stool with her on his knee as they smiled for the photo. Once they had taken a few and the photographer was happy it was time to talk to the Santa.
“Ho ho ho, what’s your name little one?” He asked and Margaux smiled.
“Margaux.” She said confidently.
“And what do you want for Christmas Margaux?” Santa asked.
“A pony.” Margaux told him and Charlie grinned.
“Oh, well you know it might be a bit hard for Santa to fit a pony in his sleigh. Is there anything else?” The Santa said, trying his best to redirect the four year old and not make any promises.
“Yeah...” She glanced up at Charlie before looking back at Santa. “I want Papa to stay with me and Daddy all the time and not go away again.”
Charlie bit his lip as he made eye contact with the Santa, who shot him a slightly sympathetic look.
“I’ll see what I can do.” Santa told her softly and Margaux smiled. Charlie took that as their cue to leave, standing up quickly and saying one last goodbye to the Santa before leaving. He paid for the photo and collected the print outs, one for him and one to send back to Canada for his mum.
They left the photo area and headed through the mall to where they were meeting up with Owen.
“Daddy?” Margaux spoke up. Charlie hummed in response.
“Yeah Mags?” He asked.
“Will Papa have to go home?” Margaux questioned, her voice soft. Charlie sighed.
“Probably baby. You know Papa lives in Oklahoma, he has to go back to Bindi, remember?” He told her, and Margaux pouted.
“I wish he wouldn’t go.” She said, and Charlie nodded, spotting Owen on a bench just ahead of them.
“Me too baby, me too.” He agreed as they reached Owen who jumped up quickly.
“There you are! How was Santa, what did you ask him for?” He questioned. Charlie bit his lip.
“We’ll talk about it later.” He said, and Owen frowned but dropped it nonetheless, changing the topic to a toy that he had seen, leaving Charlie to zone out and consider how exactly he was meant to explain Margaux’s words to Owen without hurting him.
-
It wasn’t until later that evening that Owen brought the topic up again. He and Charlie were sitting in the living room, and Margaux was in her room, taking a late afternoon nap since she had been exhausted when they got home from the mall.
“What did she ask for?” Owen asked, and Charlie bit his lip.
“At first a pony. Luckily Santa dodged that one and said it was too big to fit in the sleigh. So he asked her what else she wanted, and she said she wanted you to stay with us and not go home.” He admitted. Owen was silent.
“Oh...” He said after a moment. Charlie nodded awkwardly.
“Yeah.” He replied. They fell silent, before Charlie spoke again.
“Owen, I promise I didn’t say anything to her. I’m not trying to guilt you into staying by brainwashing her.” He said, and Owen nodded.
“I know, don’t freak out.” He replied, grabbing Charlie’s hand and giving it a light squeeze.
“I just don’t want you to freak out.” Charlie explained.
“I get it. She’s four Charlie, she just wants her Papa around more often.” Owen sighed, and Charlie nodded.
“She’s not the only one.” He said. Owen shut his eyes.
“I know. I’m thinking about it, trust me. But it’s not an easy decision to make.” He mumbled.
“I know it’s not. Take your time. Now should we go have ourselves a nice Christmas Eve dinner?” Charlie said, deciding to change the topic as quickly as he could.
“Sounds good. I’ll get Maggie.” Owen agreed.
Charlie sighed as Owen left the room to go find the four year old. He wanted nothing more than for the blond boy to stay for as long as he could, but that was unrealistic.
He knew that all he could do was just enjoy his time with Owen while he could.
-
December 25 - Christmas Day
“Daddy! Papa! Wake up!”
Charlie’s eyes fluttered open as his four year old bounced on the bed, narrowly missing jumping on his and Owen’s tangled legs.
“It’s Christmas!” Margaux squealed.
“Margaux.” Owen whined. “It’s so early.”
“But Santa came.” Margaux flopped down, landing on Charlie’s chest. He wrapped his arms around her, placing a soft kiss on her messy curls.
“Merry Christmas baby.” He whispered.
“Merry Christmas Daddy. Present time?” She grinned. Charlie shook his head, glancing towards Owen, who had rolled over and was attempting to go back to sleep.
“Cuddle for a bit first. Give Papa a chance to wake up.” He told her, and Margaux nodded, snuggling closer to her father.
“Okay.”
-
Almost an hour later and Owen was finally awake and Charlie couldn’t hold Margaux off any longer.
The three of them set up in the living room, where all of Margaux’s presents were under the large fake Christmas tree.
Charlie sat leaning against Owen as Margaux opened her presents, and once she was happily playing with a new truck that she had gotten Charlie offered Owen his presents.
“This one is from Mags.” He explained, as Owen opened the present to find a drawing that Margaux had done of the three of them, framed nicely.
“It’s beautiful. You did a great job Maggie.” Owen complimented and Margaux grinned.
“Thank you!” She exclaimed. Charlie grabbed a second present.
“This one is from me.” He handed the small box to Owen who opened it, revealing a key.
“It’s a key to this apartment. I figured even if you don’t end up moving here at least you can still come any time you want.” Charlie explained and Owen smiled.
“Thank you Char.” He said softly, and Charlie nodded. Owen reached down, grabbing the last wrapped present and handing it to Charlie. Charlie took it and opened it to find a photo book filled with photos of himself and Margaux, Owen and Margaux, memories from set and their adventures together and more.
“This is really sweet Owen.” Charlie smiled softly. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Owen replied, pressing a soft kiss to the side of Charlie’s head, as Charlie rested his head on Owen’s shoulder, the both of them watching Margaux play with small smiles on their faces.
-
The rest of their Christmas Day passed quickly and before he knew it Charlie was tucking Margaux into bed with a kiss on the head, and leaving her room to go have a shower.
Almost an hour later he reentered the kitchen where Owen had cleaned up everything from dinner and was sitting on a chair fiddling with his phone.
“Beer?” Charlie asked and Owen’s head shot up.
“Please.” He smiled and Charlie opened the fridge, grabbing two bottles of beer and handed one to Owen before sitting down across from him.
“So, first Christmas away from home, how you feeling?” Charlie questioned. Owen shrugged.
“Honestly, pretty good. I was worried I’d be homesick but I wasn’t at all.” He said and Charlie grinned.
“That’s really good. Cleaning up after Mags all day would have been a good distraction.” He replied and Owen groaned, making Charlie laugh.
“I don’t know how you do this 24/7. You’re literally a superhero.”
“Nah, just learnt to leave the messes until after she’s finished. Much easier.”
Owen glared at him.
“You say that now, after I spent the whole day picking shit up?” He spat, but Charlie knew he wasn’t really angry.
“In my defence you’ve lived with her before. Rookie error from someone with experience.” Charlie retaliated and Owen flipped him off, the both of them crumbling into a fit of giggles.
“Daddy?” Margaux’s voice came and Charlie instantly stopped laughing, his whole focus on his daughter.
“Hey, why are you up?” He asked.
“Bad dream.” Margaux climbed into Charlie’s lap and he wrapped his arms around her, beginning to rock her slightly like he did when she was a baby.
“Wanna talk about it?” He questioned and Margaux pouted.
“I couldn’t find you.” She told him. Charlie placed a reassuring kiss on her head.
“I’m here, and I’m never gonna leave you, okay?” He whispered, and Margaux nodded.
“Yeah.” Her voice was already beginning to sound sleepy again. Charlie ran his hands through her curls, detangling a knot with his fingers.
“You wanna stay here and cuddle Daddy until you fall asleep?” He asked, moving to rub her back, and Margaux nodded, snuggling her head into Charlie’s chest.
“Love you Daddy.” She mumbled. Charlie smiled.
“I love you too baby. So much.” He replied.
They sat in silence until Charlie was sure that Margaux was asleep.
“Never get a break.” He joked quietly. Owen shook his head in awe.
“You’re literally the perfect dad, you know that right?” He complimented, and Charlie blushed slightly.
“I wouldn’t say perfect.” He mumbled, but Owen shook his head.
“You are.” He said. Charlie smiled across the table at him.
“Thanks O.” He whispered.
“I mean it.” Owen smiled.
“I appreciate it. It wasn’t exactly in the plan to become a parent at 18, but I guess that’s what happens when you’re young and stupid and don’t know how a condom works.” Charlie shrugged, and Owen gave him a small glare.
“So you made one mistake, but look at what came from it.” Charlie looked down at Margaux as Owen spoke. “The best present that you ever got.”
“Very true.” Charlie agreed. “And I’d never want to return her for the world.”
-
New Year’s Eve
“Do you drink champagne?” Charlie asked Owen as the three of them walked through the grocery store on New Years Eve, getting the last minute snacks and drinks for their night in. Charlie pushed a trolley with Margaux in it, and Owen walked along beside them.
“Yeah.” Owen said. Charlie smiled, stopping the trolley.
“Great, I’ll get a bottle then. Mags, what drink do you want as your special drink?” He asked the four year old, who didn’t even hesitate.
“Pink milk!” She grinned, pointing, and Owen grabbed the bottle from the fridge next to them.
“Okay, snacks.” Charlie said, crossing off ‘Margaux drink’ on his shopping list.
He pushed the trolley out of the aisle and through the store to the snack aisle, stopping when he reached it.
“Okay, go wild.” He instructed, and both Margaux and Owen cheered, with the blond boy grabbing whatever Margaux asked for, putting it into the trolley along with his own snack choices.
Charlie grinned as he watched them shop, adding a few of his own things into the mix.
He could get used to this.
-
Later that night Charlie, Owen and Margaux had made themselves comfortable on the couch, both Charlie and Owen having a glass of champagne while Margaux drank strawberry milk out of a plastic champagne glass.
“How long Daddy?” Margaux asked, looking up at her dad. Charlie glanced at his phone, seeing that it was just after 11pm. He was shocked she had made it this long without crashing.
“One more hour baby.” He told her and Margaux nodded.
“Okay.”
She turned back to the TV which was playing a countdown of the best songs of the 2010′s, and they fell into a comfortable silence only filled with small talk and songs for about 45 minutes until Owen broke the silence.
“Char.” He whispered, and Charlie looked up. Owen gestured to Margaux and a small smile appeared on Charlie’s face as his gaze landed on the four year old, who had curled up on the couch and fallen asleep.
“Should we put her to bed and bring out more alcohol?” Owen questioned and Charlie nodded with a grin.
“Sounds good. I’ll put her in bed, you get the drinks?” He suggested, and Owen nodded, placing a soft kiss goodnight on Margaux’s head before heading into the kitchen.
Charlie picked the four year old up and carried her to her bed, tucking her in and kissing her before heading back out to Owen, who had already poured two glasses of champagne. Charlie sat down on the couch next to Owen, grabbing one of the glasses and holding it up.
“Cheers.” He said, and they clinked glasses before drinking. Charlie placed his glass down before looking at Owen.
“5 minutes til midnight, you ready for 2020 to be over?” He asked. Owen shrugged.
“Mostly. There were some good things that happened this year.” He said.
“Yeah it wasn’t all bad.” Charlie agreed. They fell silent for a moment.
“Hey Charlie?” Owen spoke up, his voice slightly shaky.
“Yeah?” Charlie turned, giving Owen his full attention.
“I made a decision, about where I want to live...” Owen started, and Charlie’s heart skipped a beat. He was pretty sure he knew what Owen’s decision would be, but he wanted to hear it just to be sure.
“Yeah?” He prompted. Owen looked down.
“I think I’m gonna stay in Oklahoma, I’m not ready to leave yet.” He said, and Charlie nodded, understanding.
“I get that.” Owen looked up.
“But I have a compromise.” He said with a small smile. Charlie raised an eyebrow.
“Oh yeah?”
“I’m gonna get my own place. I found one that’s really nice and affordable, and it has a study that could be turned into a bedroom for Margaux, and you could come stay with me whenever you wanted.” Owen explained, and Charlie couldn’t help but smile at the thought of Margaux having her very own room in Oklahoma to stay any time. But there was one other thing...
“A room for Margaux?” Charlie questioned and Owen nodded. “So where would I sleep?”
“Uh, I was kinda counting on you sleeping in my room with me...” Owen trailed off hesitantly. Charlie’s stomach fluttered at the thought.
“You’d want that?” He asked, eyes wide, and Owen nodded shyly.
“I do. I love waking up with you Char. I love hearing your morning voice, and seeing your messy hair, and the way you kiss my face while you’re still half asleep. And I love having you in my arms, or being in your arms.” He rambled, and it took everything in Charlie not to kiss him.
“You really like me, huh.” Charlie teased. Owen blushed, rolling his eyes.
“I do. I figured it was obvious, you know, when we literally had sex last week.” He retorted. Charlie grinned.
“Owen.” He said.
“Charlie.” Owen mimicked his tone.
“I would love that.” Charlie stated, bringing the conversation back to the original topic.
“I’m glad. Actually, I have something else to tell you too.” Owen told him.
“Oh yeah? What’s that?” Charlie tilted his head.
“I think I’m r-“
Owen was cut off by the countdown to midnight starting on the TV, and he stopped talking with a sigh as both boys grabbed their champagne as they counted.
“5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Happy New Year!”
Charlie lent in, placing a soft kiss on Owen’s cheek, not wanting to push the boundaries.
“Happy New Year Owen.” He said. Owen bit his lip, and Charlie missed the longing look in Owen’s eyes, his gaze drifting to Charlie’s lips. He swallowed, shaking his head before replying.
“Happy New Year Charlie.”

The second Charlie spotted Owen exiting the gate he was jumping into the blond’s arms, glad that they both had masks on to prevent him from kissing Owen senseless with hundreds of people around.
“God I missed you.” He muttered, face pressed into Owen’s neck.
“I missed you more.” Owen replied, pulling back slightly. “Where’s Maggie?”
“With Meghan. She’s visiting for a little bit so she offered to look after her while I came to get you.” Charlie explained, grabbing Owen’s carry on as they headed through the airport to baggage claim.
“Is she staying with you?” Owen asked.
“She is, but I may or may not have booked the four of us into a hotel for a few days. She leaves on Thursday so if you wanna stay after that we’ll just go back to my place.” Charlie said.
“We’re staying in a hotel?” Owen grinned, coming to a stop at the baggage carousel, his eyes focused on looking for his suitcase.
“Yeah! Mags is pumped, she loves hotels, especially high rise ones. We’re going back to mine to collect the two of them then we’ll head there.” Charlie said
“Does Meghan know about...” Owen trailed off, glancing over at Charlie who shook his head.
“I didn’t tell her, I wanted to find out what you wanted to do first.” Charlie replied. Owen smiled.
“I’m okay with telling her.” He said.
“Or maybe we just act like a couple around her and see how long it takes her to notice.” Charlie suggested and Owen shook his head.
“You’re evil.” He spotted his bag, leaving Charlie’s side for a few moments before coming back over, his suitcase trailing behind him.
“Don’t think it will take long, cause the second that front door shuts behind us I’m gonna be all over you.” Charlie grinned, taking Owen’s free hand once the younger boy was back by his side, leading him out of the airport. Owen blushed slightly.
“Can’t wait.”
-
True to his word, the second that the door was shut Charlie was shoving Owen against the wall and kissing him with so much force that he thought his lips might bleed.
“Fuck, missed you so much.” Charlie mumbled against Owen’s lips, groaning when Owen’s fingers dug into his hips.
“Char...” Owen gasped out and Charlie just kissed him harder, wanting to make up for lost time.
“When you’re done trying to swallow each other, we’re in the kitchen.” Meghan’s voice called and Charlie groaned, stepping back from Owen. He didn’t want to stop, but he knew if they kept going they wouldn’t be able to.
“We should go to them.” He said, and Owen nodded, still slightly stunned from the aggression of the kiss.
“Probably.” He agreed, but neither of them made any attempt to move, so Charlie nuzzled his face into Owen’s neck, just taking in the familiar scent of his boyfriend.
“This hotel, how is the room situation going?” Owen asked, his hand trailing through Charlie’s hair. Charlie lifted his head up.
“I booked a two bedroom suite. Margaux and Meghan can share one room and we’ll take the other.” He said. Owen smiled.
“Okay good.” He replied. Charlie raised an eyebrow.
“Why?” He asked.
“Remember your texts?” Owen smirked, and Charlie’s eyes widened at the realisation.
“Don’t be so horny.” He muttered, hitting at Owen’s arm. Owen grinned.
“Says the guy who just had me pressed up against a wall.” He retaliated.
“We can hear you, you know that right?” Meghan called, and both Charlie and Owen froze.
“We did not.” Charlie called back, and both boys decided that was their cue to head into the kitchen, where Meghan and Margaux were waiting.
“Papa!” Margaux exclaimed the second they entered the room, jumping down off her chair and rushing over to Owen, jumping into his arms. Meghan gave Charlie a look, eyebrows raised.
“So, finally got your shit together then?” She questioned. Charlie glanced towards Owen and Margaux, a smile appearing on his face when he saw the way the four year old was clinging to the blond boy.
This was how things were supposed to be.
Less than an hour later the family of four had checked into their home for the next few days and travelled up to the fourteenth floor to find their room.
Once they found it Charlie tapped the keycard against the door and pushed on the handle when the light changed to green. Margaux pushed past him, running into the room and heading straight towards the door to the balcony, pressing her face into the glass.
“Woah!” She exclaimed, standing on her toes to try to see the road below.
“Good view?” Charlie asked, placing the bags he was carrying down on the couch, before opening the door and letting Margaux out onto the balcony, trailing closely behind her as Margaux rushed over to the railing.
“Look Daddy.” She grinned as Charlie squatted down behind her, placing a hand on her back gently.
“Wow look how tiny those people are.” Charlie said, and Margaux giggled.
“They’re ants!” She replied, leaning back into Charlie.
“For someone who travels as much as she does you’d think she’d be used to it by now.” Meghan joked quietly to Owen as the two of them stood and watched the interaction.
“Especially since we lived in an apartment building in Vancouver while we filmed.” Owen replied.
“Kids.” Meghan shook her head in amusement.
“You wanna see your room baby?” Charlie questioned, and Margaux nodded excitedly.
“Okay let’s figure it out.” Charlie stood back up, taking Margaux’s hand and leading her back into the main room.
“Am I gonna stay with you Daddy?” Margaux asked, and Charlie shook his head.
“No you’re gonna stay with Meggy.” He said, motioning towards his younger sister.
“It’s gonna be like a sleepover.” Meghan grinned. Margaux pouted.
“But I wanna stay with Daddy.” She whined.
“You’ll be with Daddy until you have to go to sleep, okay?” Charlie told her, pushing open the door, revealing the room with the two double beds.
“And look at this nice big bed you get to stay in all by yourself. You can fit all of your toys around you.” He added, and Margaux frowned but didn’t protest.
“Which bed do you want Mini? The window one?” Meghan questioned.
Margaux glanced at the beds before nodding. Charlie placed her bag onto the bed, unzipping it to reveal the several stuffed toys and dolls they had packed.
“Look, we’ll put all your friends on your bed.” He said as he placed the toys out onto the bed, pulling out Margaux’s blanket last. “And your blankie, and look how nice this looks. You’ll have so much fun sleeping here.”
“And we can even sing with each other at night, or gossip about secret girl stuff.” Meghan added, sitting on the edge of her own bed.
“What girl stuff?” Margaux questioned, climbing up next to her aunt and snuggling into her arms.
“Butterflies and glitter.” Charlie joked, and Owen rolled his eyes at the reference, turning and leaving the room as a response.
“We’ll stay up all night talking about boys.” Meghan grinned and Charlie’s smile instantly turned into a frown.
“Hey! No.” He reprimanded.
“I’m joking Charlie, don’t be a party pooper.” Meghan rolled her eyes.
“You joke, but we had a full conversation a month ago about how someone wants a boyfriend.” Charlie said, and Margaux looked up.
“I want a boyfriend.” She chimed in. Meghan laughed.
“You’re four, why do you need a boyfriend?” She asked. Margaux frowned.
“Daddy has a boyfriend.” She stated. Meghan smirked, looking up at Charlie.
“Does he now?” She teased.
“Shut the fuck up, you knew that. You literally just asked if I had gotten my shit together.” Charlie said, and Meghan rolled her eyes at him.
“You didn’t confirm it.” She retorted. Charlie shook his head.
“Hey Meghan, Owen’s my boyfriend.” He stated, ignoring the flutter in his chest at those words.
“Wow! Thank you so much for telling me, that’s so nice of you!” Meghan replied, her tone thick with sarcasm.
“Don’t be sarcastic.” Charlie retaliated.
“What’s that Taylor Swift lyric? The one about looking at him like the stars, that’s you and him. It’s honestly about time that you got your shit together.” Meghan said, flopping backwards onto her bed, giggling when Margaux climbed on top of her.
“Tay’s my boyfriend.” The tiny blonde stated and Charlie sighed.
“Who?” Meghan shot him a confused look.
“Taylor Kare. Who played the young version of Bobby in the show. For some reason she’s decided she wants him to be her boyfriend.” Charlie explained. Meghan grinned.
“I don’t blame her, he’s cute.” She said. Charlie shot her a look and she rolled her eyes before sitting up, Margaux clinging to her like a koala.
“Hey Mini, why don’t we go get some food and bring it back while your Daddy unpacks all of your stuff.” Meghan suggested. Margaux smiled.
“Yeah! Can we get KFC?” She asked.
“Of course we can.” Meghan grinned, before turning to Charlie. “Want anything?”
“Just get one of those big buckets of chicken and we’ll figure it out.” He said as Meghan stood up, grabbing her mask.
“Okay. I’m stealing your wallet.” She told him.
“Of course you are.” Charlie rolled his eyes, but handed his wallet over to his younger sister nonetheless, before leaning in to kiss Margaux gently on the side of her head.
“Bye baby, have fun and be good for Meggy, okay?” He said. Margaux nodded.
“Bye Daddy, love you.” She replied.
“Love you too.” Charlie smiled.
Meghan and Margaux left, the four year old chattering away in her aunty’s arms about something she had seen in Bluey, and Charlie waited until he couldn’t hear their voices anymore to move.
“Owen?” He called, starting to head across the suite to the room he and Owen were sharing.
“Yeah?” Owen called back. Charlie pushed open the door, finding a much larger room with a large king size bed in the middle of the room, and a flat screen tv hung on the wall. Owen was unpacking his bag, hanging clothes in the wardrobe, when Charlie entered.
“Meg and Mags went to get food.” Charlie told him.
“Okay cool.” Owen replied, looking up after a few moments and frowning when he saw the look on Charlie’s face. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Remember the texts?” Charlie raised an eyebrow and Owen’s eyes lit up.
“Come here.” He said, but Charlie didn’t move.
“We’ve gotta be quick.” Charlie informed him and Owen nodded.
“Got it.”
And with that Charlie rushed over to Owen, kicking the door shut behind him.
-
They were a naked mess of sweaty bodies and tangled limbs when Charlie decided to bring up their plans for the night.
“Oh by the way, I have our date planned.” He said as Owen played with his hair.
“Am I allowed to know what it is? Or when?” Owen questioned. Charlie nodded slightly.
“Tonight. At 10:30pm.” He informed the blonde. “And it’s a surprise.”
“10:30?” Owen repeated. Charlie hummed in response. Owen sighed.
“That’s all I’m getting?”
“Yep.” Charlie murmured.
“We’re back!” Meghan’s voice called through the suite and both Charlie and Owen jumped up in fear.
“Fuck, get dressed.” Charlie instructed, tossing clothes towards Owen, before calling back to Meghan. “Coming!”
In record time they were both dressed and came out of the bedroom, trying to look as casual as possible as they walked over to the table where Meghan had placed all the food.
“Daddy, you didn’t unpack my stuff.” Margaux pouted, and Charlie placed a soft kiss on the top of her head as an apology.
“Sorry baby, Daddy got distracted.” He told her as he grabbed some food for her and put it on one of the plates Owen had brought over to the table.
“Oh gross, you didn’t.” Meghan groaned, glancing between Charlie and Owen, who had turned a bright red in embarrassment. Charlie just shrugged, a guilty smile on his face. Meghan fake gagged.
“That’s disgusting Char.” She reprimanded. Charlie shook his head.
“It’s natural.” He retaliated. Meghan hit him.
“Shut up, I don’t want to know anything else.” She said. The table fell silent for a moment, before Margaux decided to speak up.
“Daddy we saw a puppy when we were walking.” She grinned, and Charlie pulled a shocked face.
“Oh my gosh, really? Tell me all about it.” He replied, and for the entire meal Margaux rambled, telling them story after story.
-
Just before 10:30, Charlie and Owen arrived at their date destination. Owen looked up at the sign, frowning slightly when he saw it.
“A tattoo parlour?” He questioned. Charlie smiled, despite the fact that Owen couldn’t see it through his mask.
“You’ve been talking about getting a new tattoo, so I figured we could get a new one together.” He suggested. Owen’s frown melted, a soft look replacing it.
“Why is that oddly sweet?” He teased, leaning his head into Charlie’s shoulder. Charlie grinned.
“Cause I’m oddly sweet?” He replied. Owen laughed.
“That you are.”
“Do you have any ideas of what you wanna get?” Charlie questioned as he held the door open. Owen gave him a small smile, walking through the door as he answered.
“I have a couple of ideas.” He said. “Things that I think would look cool.”
“Oh yeah? Like what?” Charlie’s eyes lit up with curiosity. Owen shook his head.
“Secret. Want it to be a surprise.” He grinned. Charlie chuckled.
“Fair enough.”
After going through the basics and signing some paperwork, it was time for them to get their tattoos. The tattoo artist led them through to the backroom and for the whole time they were there Charlie and Owen didn’t once let go of each other’s hands.
The two boys left the tattoo parlour a few hours later, hand in hand and new tattoos covered in a protective cling film.
“Do you wanna head back?” Charlie questioned, swinging their hands between them. Owen sighed.
“Not really, but we probably should. It’s late.” He answered. Charlie nodded in agreement.
“True. Plus the date doesn’t have to end just because we go back to the hotel... There’s a nice comfy bed and some red wine with our names on it.” He raised an eyebrow and Owen smiled.
“Fancy.”
“Only the best for you.” Charlie grinned, and Owen pulled him close, pulling down their masks so that their lips could meet in a rough kiss.
And if it took them almost an hour to make the 15 minute walk back to the hotel then that was just between them.
-
Charlie unlocked the door to the hotel room and pushed it open, frowning when he spotted Margaux sat on the ground, staring out the window at the city lights.
“Why are you still awake Mags?” He asked as he pulled off his mask, drawing the four year old’s attention to them.
“Missed you.” She said softly, her voice wobbling.
“Oh baby, come here.” Charlie squatted down and the four year old ran into his arms, burying her face in his neck. Owen nodded towards their bedroom and Charlie gave him a small smile to let the younger boy know he understood.
“You were gone but you said you wouldn’t go.” Margaux mumbled.
“You knew I was gonna go out with Papa for a little bit, remember? It’s okay, I’m back, and I promise I’m not going anywhere. Okay?” He tangled his hand through her curls and the four year old hummed in response.
“Okay.” She agreed, her voice no louder than a whisper. Thinking quickly, Charlie decided the best course of action would be distraction.
“Hey, you wanna see Daddy’s new tattoos?” He asked, and Margaux nodded, moving back slightly. Charlie smiled at her.
“First I got this one here.” He lifted his arm to show her the heart tattoo on his ribcage, the plastic mostly obscuring it.
“And I got this one here for my favourite person in the whole entire world.” He finished, showing her the tiny cursive M inked into his wrist.
“An M for Margaux, so I always have you with me.” He said, and she peered at the tiny ink on his wrist, a small smile appearing on her face.
“I like it.” She told him. “Can I have one?” Charlie laughed.
“When you’re all grown up, okay?” He replied, ruffling her hair.
“Okay.” She agreed. They fell silent, and Charlie was just about to suggest that it was time for Margaux to hop into her bed when she spoke up again.
“Daddy?” Her voice sounded small.
“Yeah baby?” Charlie replied.
“Can I sleep with you tonight?” Margaux questioned, already leaning back into his arms.
“Of course baby. You got Mr Penguin?” He asked.
She held the penguin up and Charlie grinned.
“Great, let’s go.”
He stood up, taking her spare hand to lead her towards the bedroom, pushing the door open to where Owen was sat, already in bed with Netflix loaded on the TV.
“Papa! I’m gonna sleep here with you.” Margaux exclaimed, diving onto the bed as Owen raised an eyebrow, looking towards Charlie with a knowing look.
“Oh really? What about your bed?” He asked.
“She was sad.” Charlie pouted, and Owen just shook his head.
“Come on baby, in you get.” Charlie said, letting the four year old climb into the bed before climbing in after her, grinning when she settled into his arms, her head on his chest.
It didn’t take long for her to fall asleep, and once she did, Owen spoke up, his voice soft.
“You know one day you gotta stop letting her climb into bed with you.” He whispered. Charlie made a noise in response, his eyes never once leaving Margaux.
“One day... just not today.” He replied.
“The longer you give in the harder it’s gonna be for you. Cause I know it’s as much you as it is her.” Owen said, and Charlie sighed, his fingers tangled through Margaux’s curls as the four year old slept peacefully in his arms.
“I know.” He started. “I just...”
Owen reached out, linking his hand through one of Charlie’s and giving it a light squeeze.
“It’s stupid.” Charlie mumbled. Owen moved slightly, placing a kiss on the side of Charlie’s head.
“I’m sure it’s not.” He assured the older boy. Charlie was silent for a moment before talking.
“She’s just always been with me and has always needed me to do everything for her, and now she’s getting older and she can do all of these things on her own, and I just get worried that she’s not gonna need me any more, or she’ll decide that she doesn’t want these nights where she asks to sleep with me.” He rambled.
“You’re her dad. She’s always gonna need you Char.” Owen assured him. Charlie hummed in response, and Owen took that as a sign to change the topic, a small smile appearing on his face.
“So I’m guessing no post date make out session or red wine.” He joked, and Charlie sighed.
“Sorry.” He muttered. Owen rolled his eyes, snuggling as close to Charlie as he could get without disturbing Margaux.
“I was joking Char.” He said, and Charlie moved to place a soft kiss on Owen’s lips.
“I had a really good time tonight.” Owen whispered against Charlie’s lips and Charlie smiled.
“Me too.” He agreed.
“Do we have any plans tomorrow?” Owen inquired, and Charlie paused for a moment.
“Not that I know of. Why? Have something in mind?” He moved back slightly so that he could look at Owen’s face.
“I thought maybe the four of us could go play mini golf or something like that?” Owen suggested. Charlie smiled.
“That sounds like a lot of fun.” He answered. They fell into a comfortable silence, both boys closing their eyes, but there was something that Charlie knew he had to say. He opened his eyes and took a deep breath before speaking.
“Hey Owen?” He whispered. Owen opened his eyes, focusing on Charlie instantly.
“Yeah?” He questioned. Charlie smiled.
“I love you.” He murmured. Owen smiled, rubbing his nose against Charlie’s.
“Love you too Char.” He replied. Charlie shook his head.
“No... I’m in love with you.” He clarified. Owen’s jaw dropped slightly, but he recovered quickly.
“I’m in love with you too.” He returned, and Charlie lent in to kiss him gently.
“It scares me.” Owen whispered once they pulled apart. “How much I love you.”
“Honestly, me too. But we’re in this together. And I love you as much as you love me, so don’t overthink it, okay?” Charlie replied.
“Okay.” Owen agreed.
“We should get some sleep.” Charlie said after a moment and Owen nodded, placing once last kiss to Charlie’s lips.
“Sounds good. I love you.” He whispered, and Charlie could already feel himself drifting off as he whispered a response.
“I love you too Owen.”
