Izzy started at music drifting down the corridor. She followed it to the music room, long disused in the fog of war, as they battled against the Cohort and its Seelie allies. 

Simon looked up guiltily and his fingers paused in his strumming. 

“I- I should go to bed.” He began to lay down the guitar but she caught his hand, guiding it back to the strings. 

She felt worn callouses, gained from both weapons practice and his life before Shadowhunting.  

“You should still keep some music in your heart, Simon,” she whispered. 

He smiled at her and resumed playing.

Izzy knew it was important, being invited over to celebrate Hanukkah with Simon and his family. Simon had told her a lot about his family's traditions and their religion and why they celebrated this holiday. 

Simon's bubbie lit the first candle on the menorah. Simon held Izzy's hand as they watched. They ate latkes and she watched fondly as Simon and Rebecca debated which toppings were the tastiest. 

Izzy was happy she could spend 7 more nights with Simon and his family. She hoped she'd spent many more holidays with them. Tonight made her realize how much she loved him.
