Note
What's your recipe for split-pea soup? I wish to make gruel.
On vacation so this a bit rough and by memory but-
Soak 2 cups of dried split peas overnight/during the day
Dice half a case of cheap bacon nice and fine, then fry until fairly crispy/all fat is rendered out and in the pan
Use that fat to saute 1-2 diced yellow onions (depending on size) until soft and translucent (add a bit of salt to start of process)
Add three finely chopped carrots and celery stalks, saute them for a few minutes as well
Drain and sift split peas, then add them, a couple bay leaves, som thyme, and 8 cups of chicken broth to the pot. Salt and pepper generously.
Bring to a fast boil, skim off the scum
Reduce to simmer, cover and cook for a couple hours. Check every so often and stir. Add broth as needed.
When the split peas are soft and break down, take off heat and transfer to a food processor in batches. Puree to desired gruel levels and return to pot.
Stir to recombine and return to heat.
Add a few handfulls of chopped frozen spinach. Cook until wilted and thoroughly combined.
Serve hot with bread.

2022 IN REVIEW (VN/INDIE GAMES EDITION)
(Missed last year’s?? Check me out!!)
This year had lots of personal high highs and lower lows, so I’m glad I had games to distract from things 😂Without further ado, here’s my year in review:
DEMOS
Pivot of Heart - I’m unsure of the current status of this one, but I played it earlier this year and fell in love with the MC, the art, and was intrigued by the tarot inspired gameplay!
My Alien Roommate - I will 100% be supporting the Kickstarter the MOMENT it’s live. I was actually upset when I reached the end of the demo knowing good and well it was only a demo so that’s how you know I had a fun time 🤣 also, how can you not wanna romance an alien?? That’s what I thought.
Our Life Now and Forever - On one hand, if you’re plugged into the VN scene, you’re already aware of this game and there’s no need for me to draw attention to it. On the other hand, to quote Billie Stevenson, “I do what I want.”
Infinite Blue - Oh man did I have fun with this one! To say I’m excited for the full game is an understatement! (review for this one is on the blog too btw)
Error143 - Seeing people simp for Micah Yujin has added 10 years to my life because a dark-skinned love interest getting THIS much attention??? Players be ready to risk it all for him and I love it. Also yeah he has my attention too, I am not immune, TF you thought this was???☠️
Garden of Seif - I’m not much help in selling this game because I just straight up inhaled it?? Everything was on point, from the characters, to the unraveling story, to our LIs and supporting cast, and of course, can’t love a game with loving the MC (at least, that’s how I work)
Fully Released & Played (at least 1 playthrough)
Gilded Shadows - The brain rot for this game is so real??? So. Damn. Real. It got to a point where after I played so many routes and unlocked multiple endings that I had to stop playing so I could work on my game! And there’s still content on the way?????? Oh to live at the same time as GS 🤗
Sifting Thyme - I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t my favorite high school otome game.  And I thought long and hard about the many other games I’ve played. And I have played a lot of high school romance/dating sim games ☠️ But this one takes the cake!!--and because food is involved, pun intended. If I could have played this in one sitting I totally would have.
An Everyday Love - Check the tags on this blog. I never shut up about this game. Seriously.
Butterfly Soup 2 - Sequel’s only been out for like 2 months and I’m already begging for a third.
Blanket Cat & Teacup - The first is a cozy visual novel that gives storybook/ younger me watching Reading Rainbow vibes, and the second is a puzzle, point and click narrative about an introverted frog girl who needs to get tea ingredients for her party, and both these games reminded me of the healing power of gaming.
Still Shinning - Simply and lovely in its execution. I need to check out this dev’s other titles as well!
Portrait of a Texas Family - If you play no other games on this list, play this one. I don’t have any better words other than “I love it” and “this family and their love and their worry stick with you”.
Dusk & Dawn - SFHJSHFJSEJE THIS WAS SO GOOD LIKE WHAAA??? Black female MC, demi rep, superheroes, 2 dating options, multiple endings/dead ends, ughhh this game had it all. The only thing stopping it from being perfect is a sequel. And no, there’s no announced sequel so we can sulk together...
Fully Released (& still on 1st playthrough)
Wylde Flowers - I suck at farming sims in general, but this game has a special place in my heart. It’s the definition of charming + cozy and it was made to be played in bed so shoutout to the Switch port!!
ValiDate: Struggling Singles in your Area - I want to go in depth about this game when I’ve played all or majority of the routes, but for now just know I also believe this game was made for playing in bed LOL.
Gemi’s Gushies
(a list within a list of games that have devs trucking along in the background and I want to spotlight for y’all)

Chicken and Mushroom Pie
Original recipe
✼ ҉ ҉ ҉ ҉ ҉ ҉ ҉ ✼
Ingredients:
❀ Pie pastry
❀ Breast and thigh of 1 chicken, cubed
❀ 3 cups button mushrooms
❀ 1 large onion
❀ 3 cloves garlic
❀ Oregano
❀ Thyme
❀ Salt and pepper
❀ 1 stock cube
❀ Flour
❀ 2 egg whites
Preheat oven to 180°C
Make gravy by dissolving the stock cube in about a litre of water. Sift in several spoons of flour and gently whisk in to avoid clumping. Remove from heat.
On high heat, sauté the onions, garlic, and herbs in the bottom of a large pot. Add the mushrooms, and then the cubed chicken pieces. Once the chicken is thoroughly seared, add the gravy and switch to a low heat. Gently simmer for 20-30 minutes.
Remove from heat, and cool until you can stick your finger in it comfortably. Lightly beat the egg whites and add to the mixture, stirring well. Transfer to the pie crust, and bake for 15 minutes on 180°C, then turn it up to 200°C and bake for a further 15 minutes, until golden brown.
Wait to cool before cutting.

Gourmet Fried Chicken and Waffles
Tumblr media
Eat them together and its a combination of sweet, salty, and crispy!
A comfort food restaurant in town sadly closed when the owner retired, and they made the best chicken and waffles I’ve had! They made maple butter and a sriracha aioli which made the waffles to die for! This is an involved recipe, be warned. Let’s break it down!
The chicken needs to sit in buttermilk for a while, and you’ll want to make the maple butter and aioli before you serve. This is written in paragraph form, and I hope I’ve made it easy to read!
Fried Chicken
Take 2 lb boneless chicken (light, dark, whatever) and put it in a container filled with 2 c buttermilk to sit for at least a couple hours.
In a large bowl, mix 2 cups of flour. Add 1 tsp of salt, 1/4 tsp paprika, and 1/2 tsp black pepper. To flavor that chicken add between 1/4 tsp to 1 tsp each of herbs and spices you like, such as garlic powder, onion powder, tarragon, thyme, oregano, ground mustard, ground ginger, white pepper, green pepper, and /or chili powder. You can even just do a tablespoon or two of curry powder if you want. Sift it all up with a fork. Store until usage.
Once your aioli, maple butter, and waffle batter are made, you need to fry the chicken. Start by taking out chicken from the buttermilk and dredging it in the flour mixture so both sides are coated
Fill a skillet with enough neutral oil (I used veggie oil) that your chicken cutlets are half submerged. Bring to heat on medium high, that a little drop of buttermilk sputters when dropped in. Put cutlets in a few at a time, as to not overcrowd and reduce the temp of the oil. Once browned flip them over with a spatula or tongs. After both sides brown, put the chicken on a towel or a baking rack to sop up any extra oil.
Sriracha Aoili
Mix 1 cup mayo with 1 TBS of sriracha. Mix. Halve this if you want.
Maple Butter
Melt 1/2 c butter in a bowl. I don’t own a microwave, so I double broiled it on the stove. Add 2 TBS of maple syrup and mix. Put maple butter in a smaller container to chill and harden.
Buttermilk Pancakes
In a bowl, sift 2 c flours (I used 1 1/2c all purpose and 1/2 c buckwheat for earthiness), 2 tsp powder, 2 tsp soda, 2 TBS sugar, and 1 tsp salt in a bowl.
Whisk 1 egg. Add it to the bowl with 1 tsp vanilla extract, 2 TBS neutral oil, and 1 c buttermilk. It will create a thick paste.
Whisk in 1 more c buttermilk until lumps disappear.
Heat up your waffle iron, and I recommend putting in batter after you heat the oil for the chicken, but not before you put the chicken in.
Shitty Picture
Tumblr media
I don’t own a traditionally shaped waffle maker. We left it when we moved out of my granny unit (too small for two), and when I went online to replace it, I saw the bubble waffle maker and that was that!

SERVES  🍴⃒            PREP. TIME 🕔⃒
20 medium pcs.       20 min + 1 h wait
COOK. TIME ♨   DIFFIC. LEVEL 👩‍🍳⃒
   10 min.                 Very Easy
Welcome back to Santa's Christmas sweets workshop.
I just finished preparing these delicious and very easy Chestnut truffles and decided to share my recipe with you all before my husband gobbles them all up.
If you are a chestnut lover, what do you say, do you want to try my recipe?
Then come and let's prepare them together.
Suitable for lacto vegetarians.

INGREDIENTS
Ingredients for making the truffles:
·      300 gr. / 10.5 oz Chestnut Puree (without sugar)
·      150 gr. / 5.5 oz Chocolate 50% cocoa content, cut in chunks
·      1/2 cup / 125 ml Double Cream (heavy cream)
·      25 gr. / 1 oz / 1.8 tbsp. Butter
·      About 30 ml / 2 tbsp. / 40-50 gr. Greek Thyme Honey
·      50 gr. / 1.75 oz / almost 1/2 cup Walnuts, finely chopped
·      Optional: 30 ml / 2 tbsp. Liqueur Grand Marnier or Brandy plus 1 tsp. Orange Zest
Tumblr media
Ingredients for decorating:
·      About 75 gr. / 2.75 oz Chocolate Sprinkles (i.e. hundreds & thousands)
·      2 tbsp. Cocoa powder, sifted
·      Some edible golden powder or stars
·      Optional: Powder Sugar
Tumblr media
METHOD:
A.    Prepare the truffles mix:
1.     Note: If using fresh chestnuts, boil them, let them cool down, peel them and mash them with a food processor, leaving some small pieces in the puree.
2.     Place the cream in a small sauce pan over low heat. Drop in the chocolate chunks. You could also use chocolate with 70% cocoa, if you prefer a less sweet taste.
3.     Blend them in by stirring continuously until they melt completely.
4.     Let cream slowly boil, stirring constantly to prevent the cream sticking to the bottom of the pan.
5.     Pour in the honey and blend it in.
6.     Turn off the heat.
7.     Add next the butter and let it melt in the hot chocolate.
8.     Then fold the chestnut puree together with the finely chopped walnuts into the chocolate mix. Stir to incorporate them.
9.     Optionally but highly recommended, you could pour in some Grand Marnier, blending it in. If you don't have, add some brandy and 1 tsp. orange zest.
10.  You can't shape the truffles while the chocolate mix is still warm. Put the chocolate mix covered in the fridge for about 1 h to cool down and set.

B.    Make the truffles:
11.  After 1 h, take the chocolate mix out of the fridge. It is now solid and you can work with it.
12.  Using one-use plastic gloves to avoid cross contamination, shape small balls with your hands and place them on a platter or a tray.
13.  To shape them, squeeze them into your palm and turn them around so you can make a small ball. Take care to make all truffles about the same size. Correct them if you see that some are bigger or smaller. I made about 20 medium sized truffles (a mouthful each).

C.     Decorate the truffles:
14.  Dip each chocolate truffle into the bowl with chocolate sprinkles and roll it, pressing it on the sprinkles so they will really stick on it!
15.  Next, do the same with the cocoa powder, but do shake each ball to remove excess.
16.  Additionally, you could sprinkle some edible golden powder or stars and/or add some powder sugar on top of the truffles for a Christmassy look.
17.  Now they need to set, so place them in the fridge-covered-for a couple of hours, before serving.
Tumblr media
D. Serving suggestion:
Serve them cold directly from the fridge. They do look so elegant.
Tumblr media
And look how amazing they are inside-crispy and mouthwatering with the hearty, wintery, buttery taste of chestnuts, walnuts and the subtle liqueur flavor!
Tumblr media
You could even place one on top of the other, like a Christmas tree (pyramid) and decorate your Christmas buffet.
Tumblr media
However, you can prepare them as an easy treat for any special occasion in the winter time, no need to wait for Christmas, right?!
E. Storage info:
To preserve them, you should store them in the fridge, covered, for about 10 days.
Don't worry, they won't turn white and they won't dry out if you keep them well covered.

   10 min.
Αν είστε κι εσείς λάτρεις του κάστανου, τι λέτε, θέλετε να δοκιμάσετε τη συνταγή μου;

• 25 γρ. / 1 oz / 1,8 κ.σ.
• Περίπου 30 ml / 2 κ.σ. / 40-50 γρ.
• 50 γρ. / 1,75 oz / σχεδόν 1/2 φλ.
• Προαιρετικά: 30 ml / 2 κ.σ. Λικέρ Grand Marnier ή Κονιάκ συν 1 κ.γ.
Tumblr media
2,75 oz Τρούφα Σοκολάτα
Tumblr media

Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media

Ghostober Day 1 - “Ritual” Mood music: I’m Wicked - Twin Temple, Season Of The Witch - Lana Del Rey
There’s always something in the air, when ritual time comes around.
Some kind of hullabaloo with making sure things were properly prepared and set up to run smoothly. If there was one thing that did not happen within the ministry, it would be things running smoothly. Just four months in, and Lyra had figured that much out. That was not necessarily a bad thing, just not her style of things - and something she would come to live with.
A steady hand fixes sharply drawn black lines around the curves of her cheekbone, down her face, and around her eyes; a template to soon fill in against the soft white that already covered the entirety of her face. The charms on her earrings tink together as she rummages around to finish last minute touch-ups on everything. Proper ritual attire, consisting of an old uniform - anything that looked willing enough to be thrown out after. Ah, yes, the definition of prim, quite perfect. All for an audience of solely herself.
Though ritual attendance was not required, most everyone was there.
Lyra had other ideas.
Along the wooden boards of her office, a pentagram was traced in white paint. At each point, a black candle awaiting instruction; littered around the drawn pentagram were a few books, open to specific pages in a specific pattern; beside the books, a mortar and pestle already filled with specific ingredients. Pepper, thyme, and cardamom are at the base of those ingredients. Tucked already at her side, is her trusted ritual knife, which the wind from the open windows blow at almost eagerly. It is a simple setup, but nonetheless effective as the grandeur that the church often provides as its display of ritual. As often as her hands laid bloodied from spell and hex casting, there needed to be dedication to times of rejuvenation. A witch, no matter how strong her foundation or walls of protection are, cannot solely rely on them for her own growth. Prosperity, happiness, and success laid at any palm of the hand, and somehow it often slipped away from people. Because those things took sacrifice, which did not come easily to most. Especially sacrifices from oneself.
The term sacrifice means to give up, surrender something for the sake of something else. A fairly loose terminology in terms of ritualistic work. All it takes is-
“ Owch. “
A single drop of blood.
No matter how many times that was done, it always stung a little bit. Lyra smeared the droplet of blood into the mortar bowl and mixed it into a fine powder, which she clumped together into tiny flat balls and placed on each of the five candles. As she took a comfortable spot in the middle of the pentagram on the floor, she snapped her fingers and the candles lit in a low flame. Light flickered across her face and though the books were opened to their specific pages, she already knew the words. They flowed from her, mindlessly, a script of her own creation.
“ Hecate, I call to thee. May I receive protection and stay safe from any and all negative energy. I am rooted in the present moment, and connected to my Earth. May I be gifted with weight upon my shoulders that will help carry me further than who I am now. I lovingly let free all the energy that no longer serves me, and allow your own energy upon me, Mother of witches.”
A gentle breeze, too warm to come from the cool air outside, reaches the room. It is comforting, safe, and has the faintest scent of sage and cinnamon. A familiar smell that immediately seems to relax Lyra’s shoulders. Closed eyes flutter open, and the candles are no longer lit, their smoke sifting and swirling through the light of the early moon. With a deep breath in through her nose it is let out as a quiet sigh, now even more unwinding into her spot on the floor until she laid on her back. Hands folded to rest on her chest, the finger she had pricked lingering between her lips to clean it. Not the best habit, but it was all in normality around the church. Plus, the taste of her blood she found to be rather nice - she could extend that outside of her own blood, but she hadn’t the most experience with that yet.
Easy as it was for her to stay laying on the ground, she had other things on her schedule for the evening so in an almost regrettable way she hoisted herself up. She found her way back to the bathroom and pulled out from the drawer, a small box of bandages - the only ones the ministry had at the time. Specifically, the only ones that Copia had.
A pack of one hundred, sterile, Scooby-Doo band-aids.

Add the granulated sugar and fir needles to a spice grinder and blend until the needles are ground fine and the sugar is nearly powdered. Sift into the flour bowl and mix well.
Blend in the butter to form a crumbly mixture. Press evenly into a square 8” pan. Bake for 20 minutes, or until lightly browned.
Beat together the rest of the ingredients, then pour over the crust and bake 20-25 minutes more, or until the top is slightly browned. (The filling puffs when baking but flattens when cooled.) Remove from oven and let cool, then dust with powdered sugar.
Notes on Substitutions: If you’d prefer to make this recipe with gluten, you can just use 1 c. all-purpose flour in place of the tapioca starch, white rice flour, and xantham gum. To make them dairy-free, just use a non-dairy shortening in place of the butter. This recipe will not work without eggs. If you don’t have access to fir, try substituting an herb like rosemary or thyme to give depth to the recipe instead.

Bought pasta attachments for my mixer out of a birthday gift card from my brother. Decided to give them their first try today.
Originally I'd thawed out some ground pork with the tentative idea of making some sort of ravioli or dumpling or little pies. But as I started making the filling (sauted the pork with rosemary, thyme, and garlic) I decided I should probably be a touch less ambitious for a first project, and just make plain noodles. So I made fettuccine instead. It was about equal parts annoying (even after much flattening with a rolling pin the dough quarters didn't want to make their first pass through the rollers easily), and satisfying (the dough got so long and thin - and cut into noodles so nicely). The dough strips ended up a couple feet long, so the noodles did as well.
Added some canned diced tomatoes to the ground pork and let it cook down for a meat sauce, and had the noodles topped with that and some chopped green onion and parmesan. Since I only cooked half the noodles I made, the other half has gone into the freezer for a future meal.
Dough recipe below cut.
The dough recipe I used called for 3 1/2 cups sifted all purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 4 large eggs (beaten), and 2 tablespoons of water. Mix first with the flat paddle for a couple of minutes, then with the dough hook for same. If it's a little too dry to adhere to itself properly, add some more water by the 1/2 tablespoon (I had to do so). Knead briefly and form into a smooth ball. Cover and let rest for half an hour, then cut in quarters, form into rounds, flatten the rounds until 1/4" (0.5 cm) thick, run them through the roller attachments 3-4 times each on the widest setting, then again on about half that thickness (and again on a smaller setting if you want extra thin noodles), then run through the cutter attachment to make your noodles. At which point you can either hang them on a pasta drying rack (which I neglected to buy) or form them into nests, and let dry for a bit before cooking them. I just put the four mounds of noodles on a cooling rack to allow air to circulate around them. Depending on the thickness and shape of the noodles it'll need 3 to 7 minutes of boiling to cook.

Made crackers following this recipe, using bacon grease. They're too thick to be properly crunchy because we don't have a rolling pin, but good.
The bacon flavor did not come through as strongly as I hoped but you can taste it a bit lol...
If you make them, try to find a rolling pin and make sure the dough is rolled really thin.
Recipe:
3 cups flour 2 teaspoons sugar 2 1/2 teaspoon salt 4 tablespoons fat (olive oil, melted buter, bacon drippings, melted cocoanut oil, or melted ghee) 1 cup water
Optionally, any or all of the following: 1 tablespoon fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary, sage, or dill) 1 tablespoon seeds (sesame, poppy, fennel, or pumpkin) 1/4 cup finely shredded cheese
Oven to 450, line two large pans with parchment paper.
"In a large bowl, sift flour, sugar, and salt. If using any additions, add them at this time. Add fat and water to flour mixture. Mix until combined; the dough will be tacky.
Flour a cool work surface. Divide dough in two. Roll the dough halves to rectangles 1/8 inch thick.
Brush dough lightly with olive oil. Cut dough into desired cracker shapes using a sharp knife or biscuit cutter. Prick the crackers with a fork.
Using a spatula or pastry scraper, transfer the crackers to the prepared sheet pans. Be careful not to crowd the crackers.
Bake in the oven 12–15 minutes or until golden brown. If the crackers along the edges bake faster, transfer them to a cooling rack and allow the remaining crackers to bake.
Transfer crackers to cooling rack. Crackers will crisp as they cool. Serve crackers immediately or store in an airtight container on the counter for up to a week."

Sift any loose herbs with your preferred method (strainer/cheesecloth)
Serve warm as is, or let chill in fridge and serve over ice and coffee
