I think I like shameless because it allows character who had emotional parental abuse to have complicated relationships with those parents but not necessarily have to forgive them, because it hits very personally for me and it's nice when I get to see characters who aren't forced by the narrative to forgive their abusers and allowed to have complex feelings and relationships instead of it being all black and white all the time

#I still have a relationship with my emotionally abusive mother and it's complicated as fuck but I *don't* have to forgive her #and it's nice to see characters with similar complicated relationships that aren't complete forgiveness or cutting off all contact. nuance. #ANYWAY shout out to other people with shitty parental relationships who still maintain their relationship with them bc I feel ya #shut up lauren

I got to meet and hang out with the utterly incomparable Kim Rhodes (and some other awesome humans and baby goats) today. I have so much to share (and a mortifying story that ended in Kim holding my hand to help me feel better) but am utterly wiped right now.

Kim is a real one, y’all. I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to meet her and talk with her about our experiences as late-diagnosed autistic women (among other things). And I experienced one of the most mortifying experiences a fat woman can experience in public (and I won’t forget her saying, “Accept the help! Accept the help!” as she helped me up) and Kim’s response was to hold my hand and encourage me not to hide and just stay in the moment because the embarrassment would pass.

She said something along the lines of, “I’m not gonna tell you not to be upset right now because those feelings are yours and they’re valid. But I would take them away if I could because I know so much how awful it is to feel the way you do right now. I know it so well. So just stay right here with me, ok? Just stay here and don’t go hide. This will pass.” And then she just held my hand tightly for several minutes while she talked to the others who were there. And when she hugged me later, and I told her I was ok, she said “of fucking course you are!” and told me she was proud of me.

I felt so incredibly cared for in that moment - she went out of her way to make me feel as comforted as I could and helped the shame of the moment pass quickly.

Not an ounce of falseness in that woman, y’all. Not a single ounce.

it’s been a good while since i posted here so here’s some shit i got up to in 2022

- saw the sonic movie (was good. 10/10 would rec) - reconnected with some old friends (you know who you are) - got medicated, finally - went to a club for the first time in my life. wouldn’t do it regularly but i enjoyed it! - hosted for thanksgiving. everyone likes my pecan pie - I SAW MCR LIKE HOLY SHIT I HAVE BEEN WAITING IMPATIENTLY FOR HALF MY LIFE AND I CRIED SO MUCH IT WAS SO GOOD IM GONNA SEE THEM AGAIN NEXT TIME - hit a whole year on HRT uninterrupted, something i’d never managed before - uh, i got married??? hello??? lauren wife arc

and here’s some shit i’m getting up to next year

- FFS early-ish in the new year (insurance don’t fail me now) - goin back to college in the fall - changing my name/gender legally :3 - also. im going to at least one con. i am not missing out on that again

2022 has been the best year of my life by far. i’ve hardly had to deadname myself at all and i’ve been misgendered a total of once. it hasn’t all been easy but i’m so grateful to have had my friends and of course my wonderful partner with me through it all. i’m so happy with how the last year has gone and i’m excited for 2023.

now if you’ll excuse me, i’m gonna enjoy the rest of my hanukkah. auf wiederseh’n <3
