“Well. Your birthday is coming up in a few weeks. What would you like, Aichi? Ask me for anything.”
Aichi leaned back, and the joyful hope in his gaze struck her heart with another painful barb. “D-do you think I could invite someone to the castle? Toshiki Kai, the son of Marquess Kai? He’s the boy I met the day that f-father…”
Aichi trailed off, then cleared his throat and gamely ended with, “I— I think we c-could be friends.”

Aichi frowned deeply after seeing the brutality from the battle between Ryuji and Keith. He was looking at a screen not too far from the arena. He continued on his way to the arena.
With Yami…
“Catapult use hydro pump!”, Yami ordered.
“King use double edge!”, Keith ordered.
King growled charging at Catapult as fast as it could manage. However, its thick steel armor made it too slow and it was blasted with torrents of water from Catapult's cannons. Keith growled angrily as the massive Pokémon was blasted back.
“Useless worm…I may have to find a better pawn.”, Keith grumbled strangely.
Catapult roared quickly, overwhelming the other Pokémon with its cannons. King growled, digging its claws in the ground trying to get up.
“Keith’s King is still tough as ever. I remember Jonouchi just barely winning against him before.”, Yugi commented.
While Yugi didn’t like King’s viciousness even he couldn’t help, but admire its persistence. It was able to get back on its feet standing up stubbornly despite the torrent of water. King uses flamethrower trying to get Catapult. However before the fire could reach Catapult increased the pressure of the water and blew King off its feet. This made King hit its head and faint.
“Pathetic…it seems I have no more use for this mind slave.”, Keith said, surprising Yami.
“Wait…?!”, Yami said as he realized something was very wrong.
Him and many others gawk when Keith suddenly falls to the ground like a puppet with its strings cut.
“Is he alright?”, Misaki questioned.
The medical team rushed out carrying Keith to the infirmary as Yugi looked stunned.
“That wasn’t Keith. Even if he was slimy he had pride in his Pokémon, especially King. Not to mention his words…”, Yugi said.
“It must have been Marik. I don’t know how he did it, but he was controlling Keith.”, Yami replied.
Yami sweated nervously as his fears of Marik’s presence grew. The last rare hunter walked up removing his robes dramatically. He had black ponytail and dark eyes. He wore a black and blue mask and a red top hat. He had a red suit and a blue and black tie.
“It’s showtime!”, he said as Q4 sweat dropped.
“Next for team Rare Hunter is the magician! Arkana! Can he give his team the win they need?! Or will the king of battles retain his crown?”, MC Miya questioned.
“What a shame. I would have preferred to battle your Grimmsnarl to prove mine’s superiority. Oh well…go, Magician!”, Arkana said, throwing out his Grimmsnarl.
“I see. So, you have one as well. Even if they can’t battle now. My Catapult always puts up a great fight.”, Yami replied as Catapult prepared itself to fight again.
With Aichi…
The stadium was in front of him now. As he tried to open the door he suddenly had an ominous feeling. He looked back feeling multiple enemies near in hiding. As he looked back he saw rare hunters prepared to pounce. With a simple flick of his wrist he effortlessly caught all of them with his psychic powers catching them in place. The rare hunters sweated nervously as Aichi walked up to them.
“Why were you trying to attack me?”, Aichi asked.
The rare hunter looked away sweating bullets. He then suddenly remembered what happened to the last rare hunter they tried to interrogate.
“There you are 003v.”, Aichi turned his attention to see Leon with Jillian and Sharlene by his side.
The whole world seemed to freeze as the two stared at each other. The rare hunters became more anxious, Sharlene sweated nervously and Jillian tried to keep a straight face. Aichi narrowed his eyes at Leon as both his own reservations and 003’s hatred flowed through him. The air around him became heavy as the rare hunters panicked. Jillian could barely hide her nervousness now. Despite it Leon kept his dauntless expression against the violent maelstrom that was Aichi’s aura right now. Their eyes flashed with a rainbow spiral in resonance like when they met in Kakusa.
With Yugi…
Yami activated his mega bracelet to mega evolve Catapult.
“Magician use thunder wave!”, Arkana ordered.
The massive Pokémon tried to move, but it was too slow to avoid the paralysis.
“Man…this isn’t good.”, Jonouchi commented.
“Catapult use flash cannon!”, Yami ordered, however unfortunately due to the paralysis induced Catapult struggled.
“Magician use thunder punch!”, Arkana ordered as Magician charged at Catapult.
“Catch him, Catapult!”, Yami ordered as Catapult stayed still.
Arkana smirked at this, pointing at Catapult and laughing.
“It seems the big lug can’t. For the king of battles you didn’t put up a-“, Arkana suddenly gasped in surprise when he heard a pained gasp from Grimmsnarl.
Catapult had kicked up a big rock that had been created by King’s savage beat down on Orgoth. The rock hit Grimmsnarl’s chest, sending it flying back. Catapult used this opportunity to fulfill its earlier order. It blasted Grimmsnarl with flash cannon making it cry out in pain.
“I wouldn’t speak so soon, Arkana. As I said Catapult always puts up quite the fight.”, Yami said as his Pokémon struggled through the paralysis trying to blast Grimmsnarl more.
Grimmsnarl got the rock off of it and rolled out of the way of flash cannon. However the blast moved over following Grimmsnarl as it rolled.
“Magician use substitute! Ta da!”, Arkana ordered, before in the Grimmsnarl was suddenly replaced by a Poké doll confusing Catapult who looked around for Magician.
“Ah?! Where did his Pokémon go?”, Honda questioned.
Yami quickly tried to find Magician gasping as it jumped at Catapult from behind a rock.
“Catapult use skull bash!”, Yami ordered as before Magician could punch Catapult with its electricity covered fist it grabbed its arm harshly yanking it.
Catapult then slammed its head into Magician making the other Pokémon stagger back seeing stars.
“No, Magician you must snap out of it!”, Arkana called out.
“Catapult use flash cannon!”, Yami ordered and it blasted Magician a final time making the rare hunter Pokémon faint.
Arkana paled as he was sweating bullets. He grabbed his head as he kneeled on the ground. Yami came over to him concerned.
“Are you alright? Are you worried about Magician?”, Yami asked.
“Y-you don’t understand. I’m dead.”, Arkana said as Yami looked behind him paling.
He saw that Seeker was gone, leaving just Arkana left from his team. Yami put a hand on his shoulder.
“What are you talking about?”, Yami questioned.
Yugi jumped when a familiar golden glowing eye appeared on Arkana’s head.
With Aichi…
“It seems Marik’s men have been bothering you. Is that why your so late 003v?”, Leon said.
“How much is he using right now? 10%? Or more?”, Leon thought as he looked at the rare hunters suspended in the air.
He noted that Aichi didn’t seem to have much issue keeping it up. Aichi remained silent as he tried to contain the emotions trying to overflow within him. His aura calmed as the oppressive feeling lifted.
“Not exactly. But, they do seem interested in stalling me.”, Aichi replied.
“That is odd.”, Leon said, before he walked up to one of the rare hunters, surprising Aichi.
“Master Leon…”, Sharlene said.
“Marik is not up to something with 003v is he? You should remind him that he shouldn’t get on the bad side of team Asteroid.”, Leon said.
Leon’s gaze only made the hunters shake more. After all it was one thing to invoke the wrath of an individual and another thing to invoke the wrath of an organization as big as team Asteroid. The rare hunter hastily nodded.
“I-I’ll make sure to tell him.”, the rare hunter said.
“Good.”, Leon replied, before turning back to Aichi.
“Thank you.”, Aichi replied, before he gently let down the rare hunters.
With Yami…
Arkana hung limply, his eyes were whited out.
“It seems we meet pharaoh. You may have won this time, but soon I will come to claim what’s mine.”, ‘Arkana’ said, before his body completely fell.
Those who saw this looked very spooked. The mystery and eerieness of the message making it much more potent. Arkana was carried off by the medical staff and Yami was left deep in thought.
In the stands Aichi walked through the entrance looking around for his team.
“Bro! You're finally here!”, Kamui called out and Aichi looked over, spotting them.
He smiled as he met back up with Q4.
“Glad you decided to join us, Aichi.”, Shin said as Aichi rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
“Seriously, how long did you plan to keep us waiting?”, Misaki questioned.
“I’m sorry about that. I had to finish up something with Takuto then I got delayed.”, Aichi apologized.
Soon they went to their rooms for the circuit. Every team got their own hotel rooms near the stadium, all expenses paid. Aichi laid in his bed staring up at the ceiling. He had on blue pajamas which made the restraint braces much easier to see. He thought about what Shuka said how he will need limit break to defeat Leon. He closed his eyes, frowning. His Pokémon slept around on mini beds.
“Even in all that time I never achieved limit break. The highest percentage I have reached so far is 50%. What percentage even is limit break territory?”, Aichi thought, remembering a conversation with Takuto.
Flashback
“Unfortunately, I'm not even sure of the percentage when limit break is activated or how to unlock it. That information was never stored in the database. It’s likely only the most trusted team Asteroid officials know.”, Takuto admitted and Aichi looked stunned.
“How am I supposed to fight Leon then? If I can’t break my body’s limits like him.”, Aichi questioned.
“You’ll have to find that out on your own.”, Takuto replied.
Flashback end
“Could I try to find out through 003v’s memories. Like when I remembered Jonathan at Pegasus’s castle? No…that could be…but.”, Aichi thought, he sweated nervously as he opened his eyes.
It could be way too risky if he remembers too much. What should he do then? If he doesn’t win here he’ll be forced to be 003v again anyway. So…
“Haxorus? (Mommy?)”, Soul Saver questioned with concern as she rubbed her head against him.
Aichi patted Soul Saver on the back to assure her. Alfred watched them, able to tell there was something pressing on Aichi’s mind. But, wasn’t there always?
“I’ll just have to take that risk…this way at least there’s a chance. I have to protect everyone.”, Aichi thought as he desperately tried to think back for any answers he could find.
“Aichi, what’s on your mind?”, Alfred asked with concern.
“It’s nothing.”, Aichi lied, which only made the ghost more concerned.
Aichi deeply hoped he wouldn’t regret this.
The next day…
He looked at his phone to see a message that the meet up for their team was rescheduled.
“That’s strange. Why would the time be changed to later in the evening? I should ask Shin.”, Aichi thought, looking at the message before getting ready.
After getting dressed he met up with Misaki and Shin at the previous morning time.
“Shin, did you send that message?”, Aichi asked, showing him the message on his phone.
“What?! This wasn’t me!”, Shin replied in confusion and Misaki narrowed her eyes.
“Something is fishy here. We should check up with Kai and Kamui.”, Misaki said.
They nodded before going up to their rooms. He knocked on Kamui’s door a few times only to get no response. Worry started to fill Aichi as he waited for Kamui. Misaki had knocked on Kai’s door and got similar results.
“Something definitely isn’t right here.”, Misaki said.
However as they walked down to the lobby they saw on the TV their match had been moved up and was in less than thirty minutes. Aichi gaped knowing for sure now something was up.
“Let’s get going, Aichi. We can look for those two later. If we don’t win now they won’t have a team to come back to.”, Misaki said as she started making her way towards the arena with Shin and Aichi followed.
“Are you sure, Misaki? What if they are in trouble?”, Aichi asked.
“She’s right, Aichi. Whoever did this probably wants us to rush to them so we’ll get disqualified. You will have to trust in your teammates.”, Shin replied, sounding serious.
Aichi looked down thinking about Shin’s words, but he didn’t have much time as he rushed with them to the arena. They just barely made it there. Shin breathed heavily and Misaki sighed in exasperation. Aichi’s eyes widened as he saw who they were up against.
“Ah! Looks like our competitors from Q4 were able to make it on time! And…woah?! They have 003v? However, Katsuragi and Toshiki are missing. Things are definitely going to be interesting here folks!”, MC Miya said as Misaki looked over to see who they were facing.
At Sanctuary town…
“It’s about time Aichi showed up! He’s always so late!”, Emi complained.
“Where is Kai and Kamui though? Something seems off.”, Miwa said as he cupped his chin.
“Whatever. I'm just excited to finally see Aichi battle!”, Naoki said as he raised his fist.
Shizuka’s gaze was focused on her son. She couldn’t put her finger on it, but something about him seemed different.
With Q4…
“You’ve gotta be shitting me.”, Misaki cursed.
On the other side of the arena were three kids the same age as Kamui. One had short black hair and yellow eyes. He wore black framed glasses, an egg white dress shirt with an orange under and brown jeans. Another had red hair with yellow highlights and green eyes. He wore a green shirt with a yellow v and white pants. Both of them had red an A pin on their clothes. Then the last one was Christopher Lo; 004a.
Aichi looked warily at the other Psyqualia user. Team Shining Friendship gasped in surprise seeing who Q4 was facing.
“Their up against those jerks?”, Jonouchi questioned.
“This is like a nightmare…”, Anzu said.
Yugi and Yami watched intently. Christopher’s gaze was currently focused on Aichi.
“So, you have finally decided to show yourself, 003v. I thought you got scared and ran.”, Christopher taunted.
“It’s Sendou Aichi.”, Aichi corrected.
004a that name now had a new context with the memories he had recently regained. That implies his creation was gotten right on the first try. Likely from using the information from his own creation to get it right the first time. It was not just that he remembered how he called Ren an old model. Was he considered the same? The thought made Aichi frown deeply. The part of him that was 003v could never accept such a thing. There was no way Christopher could be an improvement that was…
“That’s impossible!”, Aichi heard in his mind mentally sighing.
“This is just our luck. Of course they're missing when we have to face him.”, Misaki said.
“Our competitor from team SIT Genius is Ali Pajeel. He’s the 3rd top student at the SIT institute! And boy will he need all the smarts he can for his opponent from Q4!”, MC Miya said.
Aichi tensed as he looked at Christopher’s team.
“I’m ready to fight.”, Aichi said, confidently.
“Hang on there, Aichi. It looks like 004a isn’t going now. You should wait till he’s up assuming we’ll even need to switch. I’m rather pissed off right now so I hope you don’t mind if I wipe the floor with the whole team?”, Misaki said and Aichi sweat dropped.
Shin looked rather fearful as he saw the anger in her eyes. He was confused seeing Aichi didn’t seem as fearful of his niece’s rage as usual.
“Alright.”, Aichi replied calmly, weirding them out a bit.
Misaki and Shin looked at each other before Misaki simply walked up to the battlefield.
“For team Q4 we have Tokura Misaki, the Kakusa region’s own Psychic type gym leader! Hopefully, for her she gets to redeem herself from the last matchup!”, MC Miya said.
Misaki met the gaze of her opponent as she crossed her arms.
“Woah, I’ve got a total babe as my opponent. Say if I win will you go on a date with me?”, Ali asked, making Misaki look at him incredulously.
“As if I would let that happen. I’m going to win here.”, Misaki replied.
“We’ll see about that, babe! Let go, Compass!”, Ali said throwing out a Liepard.
“Go, Coco!”, Misaki called out, throwing out her Hatterene.
Gin and Leon watched from their respective private booths.
“Wake me up when my son’s playing.”, Gin ordered, his guards before dosing off.
His guards' sweat dropped at his behavior.
“Coco use future sight!”, Misaki ordered.
“Compass use sucker punch!”, Ali ordered.
Later with Kamui and Kai…
“I can’t believe this!”, Kamui said as they were surrounded by team Asteroid grunts.
They had their Pokémon out.
“You seriously didn’t realize it was a trap?”, Kai questioned.
“Then, why did you follow me smartass?”, Kamui questioned incredulously.
“So, I can deal with whoever is trying to sabotage us obviously.”, Kai replied menacingly as Overlord breathed fire.
Kamui sweat dropped and the grunts all sent out their Pokémon. However, Kai’s Pokémon moved so fast it didn’t matter. Kamui sweat dropped against as Kai stood over the grunts holding one by the collar.
With the others in the present…
Due to the future sight Coco was able to evade even the lightning fast sucker punch.
“Coco use dazzling gleam!”, Misaki ordered.
As Compass was close Coco emitted fairy energy sending the feline back. Coco then shot a psychic blast for the future sight. Compass stayed down seemingly knocked out. Ali looked at Compass not withdrawing it. Misaki stayed cautious not having Coco get too close.
“Why is Ali not recalling his Pokémon even though it looks like it’s down for the count?”, MC Miya questioned.
“Coco use dazzling gleam!”, Misaki ordered.
As she did, Compass sprung up as Ali gave it a signal.
“Compass use iron tail!”, Ali ordered.
Right as the dazzling gleam ended Compass swung its hardened tail at Coco, knocking her back. The tail impacted Coco’s head making her dizzy.
“Coco, snap out of it and use dazzling gleam!”, Misaki ordered.
To Ali’s surprise Coco quickly recovered blasting Compass. Ali whistled, impressed at her Pokémon’s recovery time.
“Ah, man that stun usually lasts longer.”, Ali said.
“Hmm my Pokémon are tougher than that. That playing dead tactic was rather clever for a kid.”, Misaki replied.
“Well, I am a genius after all. Now, Compass use iron tail on the battlefield!”, Ali replied.
Compass hit the ground with its tail sending up rocks and dust which clouded Coco’s vision.
“Coco use future sight!”, Misaki ordered as Compass darted behind the rocks using them as cover as it approached Coco.
“That’s not good. It’s hard to sneak up on someone when they can see the future.”, Ali thought.
He delayed his order again as he tried to wait out future sight so Compass could strike.
“He must know how long future sight will last. He was waiting the same amount of time last time. In that case…”, Misaki thought.
“Coco use calm mind!”, Misaki ordered, taking advantage of the opportunity.
If he wasn’t going to attack now then she could use this time to buff Coco. Ali’s eyes widened as he heard this. Aichi smiled as he watched Misaki, which Shin noticed.
“She’s doing good out there. She’s always been such a strong trainer.”, Aichi commented.
“Ho ho, Aichi you seem rather excited watching her.”, Shin teased.
“Well of course. She’s my friend.”, Aichi replied obliviously and Shin sweat dropped.
Jonouchi rubbed his head in confusion.
“I don’t get it why didn’t he instantly attack with how fast that Liepard is?”, Jonouchi questioned.
“This is a battle of wits right now. I think Misaki has noticed Ali delays when she uses future sight. That’s because any tactics he uses within the future sight will be anticipated ahead of time. She realized this and took advantage of it. I think that’s why at least.”, Yugi replied.
“Uhh…way too complicated for me. That’s why I don’t battle competitively. Honestly though that’s what makes Misaki so awesome.”, Anzu replied and Yugi nodded.
“What a disgrace…Ali are really going to let yourself lose to a lowly gym leader?”, his black haired teammate questioned.
“To be fair Ali has always been a slacker compared to us. I think he underestimated that Kakusa girl because of her last loss.”, Christopher replied, seeming bizarrely more chill than usual, having his arms wrapped behind his head.
“Even then…she still nothing compared to us.”, his teammate replied.
“If that’s the case I might just have to beat both her and 003v. 003v who is said to be the strongest creation in project Psyqualia. Then…I’ll finally prove I’m better than Christopher. No one will be able to deny it then.”, his teammate thought, briefly glancing at Christopher then back to the match.
“Crap, Compass use iron tail now!”, Ali ordered.
Misaki smirked seeing Compass reveal itself. Coco moved to intercept Compass, having gotten the dust out of her eyes.
“Coco use dazzling gleam!”, Misaki ordered.
It was too close for Compass to run and the light quickly engulfed it.
At Sanctuary Town…
“Go, Misaki!!! Your the best!”, Emi cheered as she saw Compass faint.
Miwa and Shizuka chuckled at her enthusiasm.
“Misaki really has gotten strong hasn’t she. I remember when she was just a little girl.”, Mikuru said.
“Yeah, she really has come a long way.”, Shizuka replied.
“Go, gang boss!”, Naoki cheered, making the others sweat drop.
Back at the circuit…
“Aww man. Alas. Seems you have bested me babe. One day I’ll get that date.”, Ali said, making Misaki sweat drop.
“Looks like Tokura was able to get the first win for her team! Can she keep this win streak up?”, MC Miya announced.
“Of course not. It ends here.”, the black haired boy said as he held up his Poké ball.
To be continued…

After winning against Kai...
Aichi: Kaa-San! I found my mate!
Shizuka: Eh?! Who is it?! *sits Aichi down at the kitchen table*
Aichi: It’s Kai-kun! He uses the Kagero clan. Dragon is Overlord is so cool!
Shizuka: Ooooh...How how is my future son-in-law, Aichi?
Aichi, blushing madly, head bowed: W-well, he-he’s *bumping his fingers together hysterically* K-Kai-kun is hot, and cool, and so strong. Kai-kun is just my type!
Shizuka, teasing: So when can I expect your first date, Aichi~?
Aichi: U-um! N-not yet, Kaa-san! He doesn’t know it—yet...
Shizuka, hands enclosing Aichi’s: I’m so proud of you, Aichi! You found your mate! It’s just a matter of time until you wed! You are almost sixteen, after all!
Aichi, smiling softly: Y-yeah!
Shizuka: You’re on the first step to becoming the Sendou Matriach! Keep it up, my son. Do NOT abandon your love for him, no matter what!
Aichi: *nods, looking at his mom straight on* Hai! Kaa-san!
Shizuka: *claps* Now let’s begin your training. We only have so long before he notices!
Aichi: Hai!
The two apronned ladies make dinner and breakfast, Aichi delivering delicious blueberry waffles with strawberries atop. Shizuka would wake him up at 5 in the morning, since this talk, no buts about it, to teach him the ways of the kitchen. Respectably speaking, Emi was booted out of cooking for not being next-in-line.
The next time Aichi saw Kai, he would be presenting an untouched (the slapping of imouto completely called for) box of mini-cupcakes. Half of the cupcakes had blue frosting, the other red. Miwa mercilessly teased Kai and his questionable sexuality for this.

Nowhere to Go but Up
Summary:  Emi is quickly growing tired of her older brother's worsening behavior. He barely gives her and her mother the time of day, and never helps out with the chores. And, worst of all, their mom always seems to take his side! However, when she goes to confront him about it, she learns that she hadn't really understood the situation. At all. As the more responsible Sendou sibling, she has her work cut out for her.
TW: Suicide Attempt, Bullying, Family Dysfunction
Note: Gonna start posting fics here as well as ao3, I go by meltypop there as well if anyone wants to check out the stuff I’ve already written
This covers some dark themes so be warned, maybe don’t read if you’ve felt suicidal recently or anything like that. Know that there are people who love you and seek help
Anyway this is supposed to take place pre-canon, a little bit before Aichi meets Kai. It’s more like v-series where Aichi was older when he got Blaster Blade so in this Aichi is 12-13 and Emi is 9-10 or something like that
Chapter 1:
Emi had had enough. This was the fourth night in a row that her brother had skipped out right after dinner, ditching her to do all of the dishes, including his, by herself. He just scarfed down his food with barely a word to either of them (not even a thank you to their mother) and waltzed right back upstairs.
It wasn’t like she hadn’t brought it up to him before. She did, every single time. And every single time, he profusely apologized and promised it wouldn't happen again. Yet, again and again, it did.
“It’s not fair, Mom! You never make Aichi help with the dishes!”
Shizuka sighed looking up from the tupperware container that she was currently scooping the leftover rice into, "Emi, I think Aichi had a bit of a rough day today." She smiled warmly, "Why don't we just let him rest a while? I can help you with the dishes as soon as I'm finished with this, sweetie."
"You shouldn't have to…" Emi pouted, "He had a rough day yesterday too! He never even helps me with my homework anymore, either."
"I'll help you with it, if you need it, Emi," Her mother replied, her voice tight.
"But I want Aichi to!" Emi whined. Honestly, she didn't even need the help. She mostly just wanted the opportunity to get upset at him about the dishes, and possibly have a conversation with him that lasted more than a few minutes.
Her mother pursed her lips, giving her daughter a stern, yet somewhat sad, look. “Well, I’m the parent here, Emi. It isn’t up to you.”
Emi shrunk a little at this. She was generally a well-behaved child, almost never getting scolded by her mother or the teachers at school. But she wasn’t some stupid child, either. The favoritism her mother had been showing her older brother lately had been obvious to her.
She couldn’t understand it. She was the one who helped her mother with the chores. She was the one who went on errands with her. She was the one who spent time with her, who talked to her. All Aichi ever did was mope around and lock himself in his room, yet it seemed like their mother expected everything of her and nothing of him.
It was the only thing Emi and her mother ever seemed to fight about. She didn’t understand why her mom was always so quick to jump to his defense, to excuse his lazy, moody behavior. Did Emi’s feelings not matter at all?
"...I'll finish them, honey," Her mom murmured, shaking Emi from her thoughts as she rotated the faucet to the other side of the sink. "The offer still stands about the homework, by the way. Though you know I'm no good with that long division!"
She knew that her mom was just trying to break the tension, but it wouldn't work on her tonight. She wasn’t a little kid anymore, and she wouldn’t let herself be pushed around, not by Aichi and not even by her mom. "Well, I am," She said coldly, turning away from her mother, "so it's fine."
After a moment of silence, she turned to gauge her mother's reaction, fearing that she angered her. Instead, she was staring into the bowl she was cleaning with a sad and conflicted look. It made Emi feel bad, and she didn't like it. So she wordlessly trudged up the stairs.
She had no problems with her homework, and decided to go to bed early after she had finished. Mai had talked about having a sleepover tomorrow, so she wanted to get plenty of rest. The two of them tended to talk all night long, after all.
It would have been much nicer if the sleep had been uninterrupted, but a full bladder rudely awoke her around 2 AM. With a sigh, she forced herself out of her tantalizingly warm blankets and begrudgingly made her way down the hall.
As she returned from the bathroom, feeling only slightly more awake, a thin sliver of light underneath her brother's door caught her eye. She wasn't surprised he was up this late, but that didn't mean she liked it. He'd been late for school way too many times, lately. Why couldn't he just go to bed at a normal time? What did he have to do right now that was so important?
Still, if he was awake, then she was going to take this opportunity to finally have a real talk with him. Just because she was the younger sibling didn't mean he could just walk all over her!
Just as she began walking towards his door, she heard an obnoxiously loud thump; almost a bang, even. She was startled a bit. That wasn't normal- Aichi wasn't very active. He usually hardly made any noise at all.
"...you okay, Aichi? I heard a loud noise just now… you didn't fall or something, did you?"
No response. This wasn’t atypical, Aichi often didn’t respond when people spoke to him. Whether he was crabbily giving her the cold shoulder or simply lost in his headphones, she wasn’t sure.
She hesitated before his door. It would be rude to just open it without his permission, wouldn't it? He might even yell at her. He'd been unpredictably emotional lately, in the worst of ways.
She heard what sounded like a faint creaking noise, followed by a soft gurgle. It was a strange, inhuman noise, and it sent a chill down her spine; if ghosts exist, they would definitely make noises like that. Emi wasn't the most superstitious kid, but she wasn't really sure that they didn't exist, either.
The ominous noises continued. It probably wasn't a ghost. Of course not. But, on the teeny-tiny off-chance it was, what would Aichi do? Her poor brother was always so flinchy and nervous. He would hide under the bed and whimper and cry and it would slowly reach under and grab him, just like in that awful movie she'd seen once when she watched the TV after mom said to go to bed.
He may have gotten on her nerves sometimes, but he was still her brother. It was up to her to protect him, since he was the weak one, after all. She slowly let the door creak open...
…and time stopped.
She thought she had been terrified to her core before. She was even a little proud of herself for being brave enough to face a ghost.
But she wasn't brave enough for this.
She couldn't move. She couldn't even form a proper thought.
The sudden influx of bright light against her unadjusted eyes caused the image of her beloved brother hanging from the ceiling to instantly burn into her retinas. She blinked, and it remained in the back of her eyelids.
'He's dead.' Was her only thought. It was the only thing her brain could seem to process, so it repeated, over and over, like a skipping vinyl. 'He's dead… he's dead… he's dead… he's dead…'
A strained noise started in the back of her throat. She was barely conscious of it until it had morphed into an anguished wail. It felt as though the noise was playing through a speaker, like she was only an observer in this reality. Like she was dreaming.
That must've been it. She knew that people did this sometimes. Even so, this was something that happened on daytime news, to some other family she didn't know, in a different prefecture. Aichi wouldn't do this. He wouldn't just leave them like this. This was just a nightmare, and she'd never gotten out of bed in the first place.
No, he wouldn’t do this. How could he do this? To her? To himself? To their Mom?
She let out a guttural moan as a wave of nausea crashed down onto her. She couldn’t move a muscle, but just as she was about to be sick all over the carpet, she saw him twitch, almost imperceptibly. If she'd blinked, she might've missed it. Her voice died in her throat as his eyes rolled downwards, shaky irises locking with hers. There was something in them. Guilt? Regret? She didn't know, but the mere fact that he was still alive was enough to shake her from her trance like a brick to the head.
The facts came to her in one instant package: Aichi had a tweed rope around his neck, about an inch thick. It was tied to the ceiling fan, which was turned off but swaying slightly with his weight. His desk chair sat on its side underneath him.
He couldn't breathe, and would die soon. But she still had a chance to prevent it.
Adrenaline kicking in, she frantically scoured the room for anything that could help. Her eyes fell on the pair of scissors that were stuck between a variety of pencils and pens in the cup on his desk, and she ran more quickly than she thought was possible to retrieve them.
The chair was a bit of a struggle for her weak, skinny frame, and trying to prop Aichi up was an even bigger one. Lacking time, she let him go, and he began to writhe and thrash, clawing at the rope that dug into his neck.
"NO!" She yelled as he nearly knocked her off of the chair. "Stay still! I-I'm gonna save you!" She hacked and hacked at the knot, the dullness of the scissors making it much more difficult than it would have been. He stopped struggling, at least, and she prayed that it was because he trusted her and not because she was too late.
A moment stretched into infinity, her mind a complete blank. The only thing in existence was the knot and the sound of the metal scraping against its fibers.
Then, it fell apart, creating a moment of weightlessness as Aichi crashed onto the ground, taking his sister and the chair she was standing on with him.
For a moment, he didn't move.
Then, he took in a sharp, gasping exhale and began hacking uncontrollably. The relief she felt made her lightheaded and sent shudders down her spine. She had really done it, and he would be okay.
The euphoria it brought didn't last long, as the reality of what had almost transpired set in. Suddenly feeling broken and empty, she gently rubbed a hand on his back, hoping to soothe the awful coughs, but it didn't seem to help.
"Mm… E-Em… Emi…" He wheezed, his voice crackling wetly in an unnatural way. "M… sorr-" He spat a glob of brightly-colored blood onto the ground, wiped his mouth on his sleeve, then shakily wrapped his arms around his little sister. “I'm sorry… I’m so sorry… I didn’t-” He buried her face in her hair as sobs wracked his body, “I-I didn’t want you to see that, Emi…”
“Why, Aichi?” She sniffled, “Why would you want to just die like that? In such an awful way? I don’t understand…"
At this he only sobbed harder. She couldn't help but be a little hurt that he wouldn't say, but she had the feeling that pushing it would make him feel worse.
"I don't understand any of this," She murmured, burying her face in the front of his jacket.
"I know… I'm sorry, I'm sorry… I’m sorry…" He repeated over and over, as if it were some sort of mantra that would save him from whatever nightmarish feelings must have tortured him in that moment.
It made her very sad and uncomfortable, and she felt a burst of relief when she heard urgent footsteps plodding up the stairs. Mom would know what to do. She could handle anything.
But when her mother stood in the doorway, taking in the scene in front of her, her face took on a look that Emi had never seen before. Whether it was anguish, fury, or both, she couldn't tell. But she certainly wasn't expecting her to lunge forward and deliver Aichi a vicious backhand.
For a moment he seemed shell shocked, cupping his hand where hers had made contact. But the shame quickly returned to his posture and he turned away from them, shoulders slumping in defeat and remorse. It made the inside of Emi's stomach prickle, but she was too confused to get properly angry at their mother. Emi had never seen her mom do anything like that before.
“Emi," Her mom addressed her, somewhat coldly. The slight wrinkling on her face was more defined than usual. Emi didn't like it. Her mom was supposed to be kind and gentle, not angry and tired. "Go to your room.”
“But-”
“Please don’t argue with me right now!” She had barked this out like an order, but it was muffled and bubbly beneath the thin liquids that were beginning to run from her eyes and nose.
On shaky legs, Emi outwardly complied, but hastily camped out in the shadow of Aichi’s door.
“Why?” She finally addressed him after Emi was out of sight.
He sniffed wetly, but didn’t respond, only picking at the carpet with a guilty, sullen expression.
“Why won’t you talk to me, Aichi!” She yelled, sudden and anguished, “Don’t think I don’t notice the scars, and the scuffs, and the bruises! We could be doing something about it, Aichi, we could be making things so much better for you! Instead, you just hide from everyone, all the time, you snap at me when I ask, and then you do this?”
“I-”
“Did you think about my feelings at all? That I would come to wake you up in the morning and find you hanging from the ceiling? About the phone call I would have to make to your father?” She continued, not even acknowledging Aichi’s attempt to speak; she was on a roll. “And your little sister? Who walked in on you? Who- who had to-” She sobbed harshly, shakily picking up the scissors from the pile of twine shavings they lay in, “Cut you down…”
“I- I’m sorry!” He whimpered, high and hysterical, “I didn’t know! I didn’t want to hurt you guys,” He sobbed, voice cracking on every word, “I love you guys so much! I would never-” His voice caught and he began hacking a spritz of red onto his sleeve. Their mother gasped, running her fingers gently along the thick line around Aichi’s neck that was beginning to turn from red to purple. "It's just too much..." He whimpered, "I can't take it anymore... I can't get away from them..."
Wordlessly, she grabbed his jacket from where it hung on his door and slung it over his shoulders, gently maneuvering each arm into the sleeves as if he were a child. He didn’t try to fight this, accepting her hand as she helped him to stand up.
“We have to go to the ER to get your neck looked at, okay? …I know today’s been very rough for you. I’m so sorry, sweetie. I’m sorry…” She whined, her voice high and tight, “I guess I’m all mixed up, too.”
It suddenly occurred to Emi that her mother was a person. Not in the literal sense, of course she’d always known that obvious fact, but her mother was almost always so calm, so gentle, so well put together. Now, what seemed obvious was the hurt and frustration she’d been repressing for a long time.
Hitting and yelling at Aichi after he’d almost died was probably not what a good mother would do, but being a parent didn’t make you perfect, she supposed.
Aichi nodded, not making eye contact with her as he absent-mindedly rubbed at his neck. She gently caressed the red mark where the back of her hand had met his face, then planted a soft kiss on the top of his head.
“Wha- what about Emi?”
She hesitated. “Let’s let her sleep, Aichi. We’ll deal with it tomorrow, okay?”
Emi tried to back up further into the shadows to hide, as they soberly left the room, but her position was immediately compromised when their mother pulled the door shut behind them and flipped on the lights.
“Emi…” Her mom acknowledged, with exasperation but no anger. “I said to go to your room, didn’t I?”
“...I’m sorry. I wanted to make sure he was okay.”
Her mother gave her a sad smile, softly rustling her hair. “I’m going to take your brother to the doctor for his neck. You try and get some sleep, okay? We'll talk about this in the morning. Set your alarm in case we’re not back yet by then, alright?"
Emi nodded, and her mother knelt down to plant a kiss on her forehead. "I love you both, so much, okay?"
"...love you too," Emi murmured, eyes still trained on the thick purple line that circled her brother's neck. The bruises blossomed out in splotches, almost like a ring of purple flowers. He kept touching it. She kind of wanted to touch it, too. It seemed unreal, like the makeup they did when someone got hurt in the movies.
“...sorry, Emi…” Her brother said, again, looking away regretfully and covering the injury with his hand as the two of them continued down the stairs and out of her sight, leaving her to stand in the shadows, consumed by the most conflicting whirl of emotions she’d ever felt.

Chapter 13 Forlorn Vow (Finale of the first part)
Aichi’s heart felt so warm and fuzzy right now. He always wanted to do this deep down. It was not unlike when he reunited with Blaster Blade on Cray. Now, he finally understood those strange thoughts and feelings he had towards Dynasmon.
However, he felt something else in his chest. Something inside it that was invasive and foreign. A grim reminder that this was…fleeting. He was on limited time…a ticking time bomb that could go off at any moment and spell doom for those he loved.
Even still he treasured this moment. Those watching could tell from Aichi’s expression how much the affection meant to him. They wordlessly separated from each other. Aichi looked up at Dynasmon who looked away flustered. Aichi then turned to the angel Digimon more serious. Pusumon giggled happily.
“Great angels, is there any way to destroy the seed?”, Aichi asked.
The room became silent and tense. Seraphimon looked at Aichi intently.
“I honestly don’t know. I suppose there’s no harm in trying.”, Seraphimon replied, honestly.
On Earth…
The forces of the demon lords slowly encroached from the train stations.
At Forest Terminal…
Aichi looked down disappointed. They tried everything they could. He saw so many bright flashes of light he felt his head spinning. The mood was doured and Kourin looked very worried looking over to Aichi. Dynasmon looked annoyed grumbling about the uselessness of the Celestial Digimon. Pusumon looked confused and sad not exactly understanding the situation.
“I have news from our scout that the Demon Lords are on the move! It seems they’re trying to go to the human world!”, Sorcerermon said as he ran in.
This quickly gained their attention. The humans tensed at the news.
“Then, you must chase after them. We’re deeply sorry we cannot lift your curse, but we can provide you passage to the human world.”, Ophanimon said.
“You're just moving him not solving the problem…you useless angels.”, Dynasmon grumbled.
“It’s fine, Dynasmon. The seed didn’t even originate from the Digital World. Hoping they could get rid of it was always a long shot.”, Aichi replied and Dynasmon hmphed.
“We wish we could have aided you more after everything you’ve done. Unfortunately this is the most we can provide.”, Seraphimon said.
“So, what will we do about the seed then?”, Kourin asked.
“I guess we will simply have to wait until the Demon Lords are dealt with…I wish there was something I could do.”, Olivier said as he balled his fist.
Ren looked over to Aichi who seemed deep in thought. He swore he could see darkness in his expression.
“Oliver’s right. We will have to find a way to deal with it after defeating the Demon Lords.”, Aichi said.
Sorcerermon led them to a secret Trailmon underground.
On Earth…
The time was 6:01am. Despite the time that passed in the Digital World the forces of the Demon Lords hadn’t gotten far due to the time difference. The people of Earth were quickly starting to take notice of the invaders. Soon, the Demon Lords arrived on Earth….
The streets erupted into chaos when people saw the monsters roaming. Cars drove wildly trying to get away causing crashes. Screams of terror and explosions rang through the air. In mere minutes the city was thrown into chaos. A humanoid Digimon with blue armor roared as he cut through an electrical pole like butter. Just like that the internet which humans could use to contact the outside world was being cut off. A black t-Rex Digimon yanked at another electrical line with its tail.
“W-woah, what the hell is going on?!”, Naoki questioned and Shingo pulled him back behind a building.
“Shut it, wannabe! We don’t want those monsters to come near us.”, Shingo whispered.
“I’ll just cardfight them.”, Naoki replied.
“Do those guys look like they’re interested in cardfight?”, Shingo questioned, incredulously.
“Dark Roar!”, the Digimon with blue armor called out as it fired dark matter from its weapon.
The two paled as those hit by the dark matter were completely annihilated. This made Naoki rethink getting anywhere near them.
“Let’s bounce.”, Naoki said as quietly as possible and Shingo nodded.
The two started to sneak away from the chaos. They quickened their pace when debris started to fly everywhere. The Digimon with blue armor spotted them as they started running, aiming its weapon at them.
“S-Shit!”, Naoki cursed.
However suddenly something flew past them like a blur.
“Kotemon warp digivolve to…! Dynasmon!”, a familiar voice said.
The Digimon with blue armor coughed up blood as it suddenly had a gaping hole through its stomach. It was created by a massive fist that tore through its armor and body like tissue paper. More Digimon suddenly flooded in to combat the invading Digimon. This left the two very confused not understanding what was going on at all. Naoki tensed and Shingo flinched when the Digimon that easily dealt with the Digimon with blue armor turned to them. That Digimon was…Dynasmon.
“Naoki! Shingo!”, the two turned as they heard a familiar voice.
Their eyes widened in disbelief to see both Aichi and Kourin. They were even more confused to see Aichi carrying a small Digimon. Crusadermon struck a Digimon trying to attack them from behind with her roses.
“What the hell…?”, Naoki questioned.
“You guys need to go somewhere safe!”, Aichi said.
The black dinosaur rushed at Dynasmon in fury drawing their attention.
“How d-“, the black dinosaur was saying however it never got to finish its sentence.
Dynasmon backhanded the dinosaur without looking at it. It’s strike blew the dinosaur’s head off. Naoki and Shingo gaped incredulously at seeing this. Aichi would normally scold Dynasmon for killing another Digimon so casually but…He looked around seeing the untold destruction all across the city in mere minutes. The stench of blood and ash was in the air. Regrettably they really didn’t have time to purify every attacking Digimon if they wanted to save as many victims as possible.
It was frightening to imagine what level of destruction would have been caused before they arrived if Earth and the Digital World moved at the same time. Aichi went over to Dynasmon’s side. Naoki froze at seeing Aichi and Dynasmon together. Something about it felt oddly familiar.
“Where are you going, Aichi?!”, Shingo questioned fearfully, before Aichi looked back at his friends.
“We’re going to deal with this.”, Aichi replied, only adding to the two’s confusion.
“It’s a long story. We don’t have time to explain.”, Kourin said.
Aichi put Pusumon into his former v-pet and got on Dynasmon’s back as he flew. The wyvern knight manipulated the wind to move the debris out of the way of crushing people. He then fired that same debris at the many Digimon that charged at it. The pressure of the wind increased the deadliness of the debris drastically allowing it to kill the Digimon attacking it. Kourin led Naoki and Shingo away with Crusadermon guarding them.
“Does this mean you remember us?!”, Naoki questioned and Kourin nodded.
The two looked stunned learning this.
Dynasmon flew at unbelievable speeds tearing countless numbers of the invading Digimon apart. Aichi had a much better view of the devastation now. It unnerved him greatly to see the city he’s lived in his whole life torn asunder. He only hoped that no one he knew was…Aichi visibly flinched holding his chest as a dark aura appeared around him briefly. He really didn’t have the time. Any time.
“I’m sorry for this…”, Aichi thought solemnly.
Only due to this ruthless decision and the blessing of Dynasmon’s speed were they able to save as many people as they could. In less than a minute the invading forces within the city were annihilated to the awe of those witnessing it. Dynasmon stood victorious over the corpses of the invaders who quickly faded away. People looked out from the destroyed buildings seeing Dynasmon high in the sky.
“How shit!”, Naoki said, completely stunned.
“Well, that was quick. I suppose we should focus on our second objective then, my lady.”, Crusadermon said.
“Second objective?”, Naoki questioned, having the same strange feeling as when he saw Aichi and Dynasmon together.
“We have to check on everyone to make sure they’re alright.”, Kourin replied.
“That makes sense.”, Shingo replied.
She started explaining to them how they went to the Digital World with vague details. She was unsure if they should know about the seed considering Aichi hadn’t told them before and they didn’t need to be worried about that and the Demon Lords at the same time.
Gatomon snickered as she viewed Aichi and Dynasmon from afar.
“It seems the Digimon we sent after them failed miserably. Alas…”, Gatomon sighed.
She watched as the two flew off. She observed them quietly following them.
Aichi looked beyond relieved to see his house in one piece. Dynasmon shrunk down, becoming Kotemon. His family would definitely freak out seeing Dynasmon’s towering form, but there was no telling if there were surviving invaders lurking around. Aichi and Kotemon looked around cautiously before entering the house.
At the door he was met by his mother who seemed to be rushing out with Emi. She quickly stopped before she ran into Aichi.
“There you are, Aichi! We have to go! Did you hear those explosions?!”, his mother said, sounding panicked.
Emi looked over, noticing how bizarrely calm Aichi was. She remembered Link Joker and wondered if her brother was somehow caught up in this too. Her mother noticed the small figure in kendo gear next to Aichi and her eyes widened.
“Everything is fine for now.”, Aichi replied as he noticed his mother looking at Kotemon.
“Your…that can’t be…”, his mother murmured.
“This is Kotemon.”, Aichi introduced, gesturing to his partner.
The two looked completely stunned at this.
“Wait…’mon’? Kotemon? Isn’t that a Digimon?!”, Emi questioned.
When she looked more she noticed the reptilian feet and tail clearly poking out of the kendo armor. Emi’s eyes were completely wide as she realized it was real as she saw the tail move.
“I don’t understand. What’s going on, Aichi?! I thought Kotemon left.”, his mother said, surprising Emi.
Aichi looked a bit shocked due to not having his memories.
“This might sound unbelievable, but there’s really no way to hide it after what just happened…”, Aichi said.
He explained how he went to the Digital World leaving out any parts about the void. He had also brought Pusumon back out who was fussy at being forced into the former v-pet. His mother calmed it down and Emi’s eyes sparkled at how cute it was. Notably Pusumon was bigger than when it was seen last. It no longer had its binky, it had grown short stubby legs and had yellow spikes on its back.
“I’m sorry, Pusurimon. I put you in the v-pet because I didn’t want you to be in danger while Dynasmon was fighting.”, Aichi apologized, waving his hands.
“It was still so mean, mommy! I didn’t know where you were!”, Pusurimon replied.
However, it quieted down when Aichi’s mother gave it food and it focused on eating, making them sweat drop.
“Because the Demon Lord’s forces are attacking all over the world through the train stations we all had to split up.”, Aichi was saying.
Aichi looked down at his phone and Kotemon looked over his shoulder. His phone was full of worried texts from his friends. He kept repeatedly hearing dings as he tried to talk. He quickly tried to text all his friends back clarifying he was okay and asked if they were. He frowned as he got a call from Misaki, but he knew better than to ignore her. It wasn’t as if he didn’t want to hear her; he just…didn’t want to explain what happened at the club.
Emi gave him a judging look as he looked down at the ringing phone.
“Come on, what’s up with you, brother?! Answer her!”, Emi said.
“She will only get more worried if you don’t answer her again.”, Kotemon said as Aichi closed his eyes.
Emi raised her eyebrow at this. What he said implied Misaki had already called him. She was absolutely perplexed at why her brother was avoiding her and his other friends. He raised the phone up to his ear accepting the call.
“Yes.”, Aichi replied softly.
He instantly backed away as he could hear Misaki yelling. She was so loud Emi could hear her even though it wasn’t on speaker. Kotemon had never felt such unbridled fury from a voice alone. He wondered what kind of power this Misaki had, especially since he could see his tamer’s intense fear plastered on his face.
“I have been trying to call you for the past half hour! Why the fuck haven’t you been responding?! I thought you were dead! Are you and Emi alright!”, Misaki said, fuming with rage which made Aichi tremble in fear.
She could tell just how enraged she was when he heard her curse. He’s never heard that before so he knew he was basically dead. Was the void going to matter when Misaki murders him?
“I-I’m s-“, Aichi was saying shakily before he was cut off.
“Get your ass over here now! You are going to explain what the fuck is going on! I got a message from Ren saying you went to some ‘Digital World’ and Kourin’s back!”, Misaki practically ordered.
“E-Emi’s fine…so is my mom.”, Aichi replied, sounding like a mouse compared to her.
“Then you have no reason to not get over here now!”, Misaki replied.
Aichi was silent for a moment as he held the phone.
“Aichi?! Did something happen?”, Misaki asked, sounding concerned.
The others looked confused at Aichi’s behavior. He seemed to have calmed down from his initial fear. His expression was more calm and almost cold. Emi noticed Pusurimon froze looking scared. Kotemon was worried the void was doing something again.
“Fine. I’ll come.”, Aichi replied, simply.
Misaki was put off by the bluenette’s tone. She recognized it far too well…the way Aichi’s voice sounded deeper than normal. Hearing that familiar tone made her more worried than ever before.
“W-wait Aichi-“, Misaki questioned, concern was very visible in her voice before Aichi hung up.
Aichi’s mom and Emi looked completely stunned. Aichi just…hung up on someone. Not just someone, one of his closest friends. They were starting to feel seriously concerned about Aichi now. Had something happened in the Digital World he hadn’t mentioned? Even more so Emi was alarmed because she recognized Aichi’s tone as well. It was the same as ‘that time’ where her brother suddenly became frightening. Something was…very wrong with her brother. She could feel it.
“A-Aichi?! What the heck was that?! Why did you hang up on her?”, Emi questioned.
“Let’s go, Kotemon. Pusurimon, can you keep mom and Emi safe?”, Aichi said as the small Digimon looked up at them.
“Sure? Where are you going, mommy?”, Pusurimon questioned with concern.
“Aichi, what’s going on with you?! You’ve been acting strange!”, his mother questioned.
Kotemon looked at Aichi as he looked over. This completely stunned his mother. She had absolutely no idea why her son was acting like this and it was terrifying.
“Everything’s fine. I will see you two later.”, Aichi said, followed by Kotemon as he quickly left.
Emi got up at this practically about to chase after him herself.
“Wait! Emi, there could be more monsters!”, their mother warned.
“Pusurimon digivolve to…!”, Pusurimon said, suddenly sounding surprised.
Very soon after Pusurimon was engulfed in light stunning them. When the light vanished Pusurimon was bigger again and now bipedal. Its fur was spiky, it now had red claws and pointy ears.
“Herissmon?!”, Pusurimon now Herissmon, said as surprised as they were.
A blue aura was visible around it briefly before quickly fading away. It suddenly felt so much power surging through it. Did Aichi do that?

At Card Capital…
Aichi’s friends looked absolutely stunned as they overheard Misaki’s call with him. Kourin, Naoki, Shingo, Kai, Miwa, Kamui, Morikawa, Izaki, Shin, Reiji and Eiji.
“Maybe you're onto something Izaki. Aichi really is turning into Kai…”, Morikawa said with wide eyes.
Naoki and Shingo noticed how particularly spooked the others were hearing Aichi’s tone of voice. The two of them had never heard it before but it put them on edge especially seeing the others reactions. Kourin lowered her head and Kai was completely silent looking at the wall. Kamui’s fists were shaking, Reiji and Eiji’s mouth’s were agape. Miwa had a serious look and looked over to Misaki as concern flashed on his face. Shin touched Misaki’s shoulder with concern on his his face.
“I was just joking about that. I didn’t think he was really…”, Izaki said as he rubbed his head.
Misaki had a nervous sweat as she stood there gazing at her phone, unable to believe what she heard. The amount of worry that entered her overpowered the anger she felt. She had noticed the startling similarities with Aichi’s behavior to how he was acting then. Her greatest fears were being proven to be correct.
“Misaki…? What the hell?! Why did Aichi do that?! Was he lying to us?!”, Naoki questioned, seeing that as the only explanation.
“I don’t know…but Aichi has been acting strange for over two weeks.”, Misaki replied.
“Something has definitely been seriously up with him. If we caught him before would he have acted like that?”, Shingo questioned.
“Even still there’s no reason to act like that when we’re worried about him! He hasn’t had the hall to talk to Misaki like that since…”, Kamui was saying.
“It’s gall, kiddo.”, Miwa corrected.
“That doesn’t matter! The way he was acting was just like he was during Nationals!”, Kamui replied.
Shingo’s eyes widened as he suddenly remembered how Aichi was in the Nationals. He hadn’t thought about it for awhile and he had only been a spectator then. He thought it was some sort of heel performance considering how nice Aichi proved to be. But, Aichi had later said he couldn’t act confusing him. He remembered Aichi used the same tone there too.
“What the hell has crawled up Aichi’s ass to be acting like this?!”, Naoki thought.
“Nationals?! Was he acting like a complete ass then too?”, Naoki questioned.
Miwa looked over to Kai who frowned deeply. He could see Kai gripping his fist tightly.
Flashback
“That’s…That’s a mistake!”, Aichi said, emotionally as he tried to talk him away from the metaphorical edge.
Flashback end
“This all started after Link Joker…Did it do something to him?!”, Kai thought, full of concern.
Kai suddenly thought of his own words.
Flashback
“You’re going to be locked by me forever!”, he said menacingly.
Flashback end
Kai froze feeling like it was hard to breathe….Did he? Did he really lock Aichi?! It would explain his uncharacteristic behavior…He held onto the reverse for a while. Was it possible for the reverse to hold onto Aichi?
With Aichi…
“Aichi…why are you acting like this? Is the void doing something to you again?”, Kotemon asked.
Aichi looked down at Kotemon as they walked. There was something in Aichi’s gaze both powerful and utterly terrifying.
“I’ve decided what I need to do…”, Aichi replied as Kotemon sweated nervously.
“And what is that?”, Kotemon asked.
“I’m going to get rid of the seed by sealing myself away to protect everyone.”, Aichi said, through the former v-pet.
Tumblr media
Kotemon’s eyes widened in shock as he met Aichi’s gaze. Aichi was deadly serious about what he said. His partner could tell very well he meant every word of it without the void’s influence. Kotemon briefly stopped completely stunned by the declaration.
“You don’t agree do you? You want to stop me?”, Aichi said.
“That’s why you were acting so strange…you have been pushing everyone away so they won’t get hurt…”, Kotemon murmured.
That was how strong Aichi’s dedication was to protect everyone. He was willing to do anything to save his loved ones even if they ended up hating him. It was perhaps the ultimate display of loyalty. There was a moment of silence between the pair.
“You are one who is truly noble beyond belief, Aichi.”, Kotemon said as Aichi’s eyes widened.
Shock was visible on Aichi’s face. He had honestly expected to get lectured for suggesting such a thing. Kotemon bowed to Aichi who fully turned around to him.
“There is truly no human more worthy of being my partner.”, Kotemon said.
Aichi smiled warmly at Kotemon, his cold mask completely melting away.
To be continued…in Digimon Tamer ZERO -Earth arc-!
Aichi and co will return!

I wound up on CFV's tvtropes page and it noted that Aichi's father worked overseas (and Aichi wound up in Yale). I feel like I should be taking this info with a grain of salt since it's not mentioned in the wiki. Is this information true? I don't see anymore information on Aichi's father anywhere else.
to my knowledge, there was never any mention of aichi’s father in the series, so anyone who says “his father worked overseas” is likely just headcanoning it (to be fair, that is my predominant headcanon for aichi’s father as well, that he works overseas in a very lucrative job and sends money back to japan so the sendou family could live very comfortably without having to uproot them but aichi and emi don’t know him much at all), i mean, he and shizuka could be divorced, or he could be deceased and left a decent amount of money so shizuka doesn’t have to work, etc, but yeah, i’m reasonably sure it’s a headcanon
unless this was a massive collective fever dream, aichi going to yale was i believe confirmed in cfvg when there was a shot of the campus he was on and the fandom discovered through some digging around that it matched the campus of yale, but this was a long time ago and i’d have to rewatch g to make sure i wasn’t imagining things because i have literally no idea what episode that might have been or if it was something else entirely
tvtropes does have a habit of being speculative so i would always take anything that isn’t sourced with a grain of salt, though the fandom has pretty well agreed aichi went to yale so there must have been some solid merit to that
