She couldn't believe she was back. For the fifth Tuesday in a row. She couldn't get enough of that freak, Eddie Munson. Watching him play was always entertaining. The way he would look at her with a toothy grin, making her giggle and probably blush. Eddie wasn't the only person she got along with either. She became close with the entire band. After playing on a Tuesday, they would all go out for dinner. She was like their roadie that didn't have to travel very far.
No one knew about this though. If any of her friends found out she was hanging out with the freak and his band, she would be dead. So she kept it to herself, enjoying her Tuesdays with Eddie Munson. Nothing was going to stop her from doing that.
“Hey!” She smiled watching one of the basketball players, Trevor, walk up with Jason Carver, who were both smiling back. “Hey Trevor! What’s up?” Trevor leaned onto her locker, closing it for her as she was trying to reach for her textbook. “I was wondering if you could come to practice tonight. Watch me shoot some hoops. Maybe get some dinner afterwards?” She could feel all of the color flush from her face. It was a Tuesday. There was no way she was going to go to basketball practice. “Oh… I have a test tomorrow. A big one. You know I would love to, but-” “Are you serious?! You ditched me last practice too!” “I know, I know,” she tried pushing past him to open her locker, but there was no way that was going to happen. “I just think studying is super important right now. With midterms coming up and all that. Sorry Trevor. Maybe next time.” “This is bullshit. It's like you’re avoiding me. You know what, never mind.” She watched as the two basketball players left, all of the stale air in her lungs being exhaled out.
“Hey,” she saw a hand stick out from behind her, slamming on the locker next to her. “Whatcha doin’?” She felt her face go red. Those rings. There was no way she was going to be caught in the hallway talking to Eddie Munson. She turned around and made eye contact with him. “Eddie, I have to go to class.” “Ready for tonight?” “Eddie, I'm serious. Leave. Me. Alone.” “Huh? What’s wrong?” He moved his head down to her level, their noses only inches apart. Unbeknownst to her, Trevor and Jason were watching everything. “Eddie,” she put her hand on his chest softly and cupped his jaw. “Don't talk to me while we’re at school.” She quickly walked off like nothing happened, Eddie standing confused at her locker.
“Dude, there is no way she’s hanging out with the freak!” Trevor followed Jason, who was on a mission. “You saw the way he looked at her in the hallway.” “Yeah, but she looked like she wanted to push him away.” “No dude, I think you’re just in denial. I think your girl’s a freak, Trev.” “No way! No way! She would never hang out with him! Where the hell are we going anyway?” “We’re following her.” “What?! Are you crazy?!” Trevor stopped and Jason grabbed his jacket pulling him to walk with him. “I just want to call her out. I know she’s hanging out with him. You heard what he said in the hallway, right?” “Which part?” “He said, ‘ready for tonight?’ What a sicko.” Jason fake shivered, making a disgusted face, while Trevor followed behind, hoping that Jason wasn't right.
They watched her walk into a bar and order a drink, sitting down with a big smile on her face. “See, she didn't have to study tonight, Trevor.” “Maybe she’s studying here?” “Dude. What girl studies at a bar full of drunk dudes?” “I don't know? Maybe she does?” “Trevor, you’re not being serious, right? She was avoiding you. She doesn't want to go out with you! She probably already sold her soul or some shit.”
They kept their eyes on her as she struck up some conversation with the waitresses there, and she looked up with a big smile, immediately running up to the small stage in the bar. Eddie stepped out with the rest of his band and she threw her arms around him and he rubbed her back, leaning his chin on her shoulder. They couldn't see what she was saying, but she looked far too happy for their tastes. “See Trevor. Like I said.” Jason turned around to see nothing but anger on Trevor’s face. “I'm going to kick his ass.” If Jason thought Trevor looked pissed from a hug, he could not explain the look on his face after she leaned up to Eddie, cupping his face before landing a small kiss on the corner of his mouth before running back to her seat. “That’s it. He’s dead!”
Trevor ran into the bar and pointed straight at Eddie. “Hey freak!” Eddie turned over, the smile fading from his face. “Trevor?” “I'm gonna kick your ass!” She stood up and ran over to Trevor, stopping him from getting up on the stage. “Trevor, what the hell are you doing here?” “I should ask you the same thing. Having fun with the freak, are we?” She scowled at him and Trevor tried to push past, but she slapped him in the face, the whole bar now focused on them. “Trevor, if you hurt him, I swear to god.” “Aw, she wants to protect her little boyfriend. Isn't that cute, Jason?” Jason walked up and looked at Eddie with a deathly glare. “We’re gonna get you, freak.” Eddie giggled and the smile came back to his face immediately. “Is that so? I wouldn't threaten a guy who’s gotta eight pound guitar in his hand. Plus, there’s security. Nice try, Carver.” Jason and Trevor looked at each other and back at her and Eddie. “Oh, just you wait girlie. We’re going to make your life a living hell.” They ran out and she turned to Eddie and the two of them nearly fell over in laughter.
When she walked into school the next day, there were pictures of her and Eddie on the wall with devil horns and crossed out eyes. There was even one of them that Jason and Trevor took where her and Eddie were hugging. How they managed to get that, she didn't know, nor did she want to. If it were up to her, they would be the real freaks. “Looks like we’re pretty popular today, huh?” Eddie handed her her textbook from her locker and she smiled at him. “Seems so.” “Sorry I made you lose your popularity points.” “Ah, who gives a shit? You’re more fun to hang out with anyway.” “Ah, don't flatter me.” She smiled and grabbed his hand, slamming her locker shut. She didn't mind being the freak.
