Ushijima Wakatoshi x Reader (Oikawa's Younger Sister)

Nerves hit as you walked through the front gates of Shiratorizawa Academy. This was your dream; this school was one of the best in the region for education. It was also one of the hardest to get into and yet finally all those years of hard work paid off and you were standing in front of your new school. You were scared but excited. You also missed your brother, though you knew you’d see him after school it was weird not going to the same school. You two had gone to the same school since elementary school, he was just a grade above you. He chose to go to Aoba Johsai, he liked the volleyball program, and it was where most kids from our junior high went to high school. It just wasn’t the place for you, you knew you were where you should be.

School was going smoothly, and the first few weeks went by in a flash. You had yet to pick an extracurricular to do after school though and the pressure of picking one was really starting to get to you. You ended up applying for the boys’ volleyball club manager position. You knew they had a great program but hadn’t had a manager in a long time. The spot was hard to get but you figured you’d give it a go, after all you had tons of experience from being at every one of Toru’s games to helping him and Iwaizumi practice. You practically knew everything there was to know about volleyball. A week later you heard back, and you were accepted.

That afternoon you headed to the gym for practice. You walked in to find a bunch of scary tall intimidating boys in there. “Why hello there little girl, who might you be?” a tall red-haired boy asked as he walked toward you to greet you properly. This question had all eyes turn to you. “I’m Oikawa… Oikawa Y/N… I’m the new manager… Nice to meet you all.” You greet them as you bow. The group of boys quickly introduced themselves and practice started. You recognized one of the boys in your year Shirabu. You two shared quite a few classes together. The boy who caught your attention the most though was a tall boy with olive-brown hair and olive-colored eyes. He had introduced himself as Ushijima Wakatoshi a year 2 on the team. You remember your brother mentioning Ushiwaka before. He couldn’t stand him. Was this the same guy your brother hated?

As time passed you became quite close with the whole team. You were closest with Shirabu since you two shared many classes together and often times partnered up for group activities. You really enjoyed being the manager, the only problem was your brother. He was NOT happy when he heard that you joined the volleyball team as manager. “But Y/N whyyyyyy? You could have come to Aoba Johsai and been our manager instead” you brother whined. “Come one Iwa-chan back me up here.” “I mean as long as Y/n-chan is happy, I’m happy for her and will support her, though personally I can’t stand them either.” “Ugh fine. But Y/N promise me one thing?” “Sure Toru, what’s up?” “Do NOT fall in love with the big stupid Ushiwaka. Got it?” You couldn’t help but laugh at your brother and his crazy request. “You never know I may already just be head over heels in love with the brick wall that is Ushiwaka” you sarcastically reply. “So mean Y/N!”

The rest of the school year seemed to fly by in the blink of an eye, though being manager, you didn’t get much of a break. The boys conditioned over breaks which meant you were also there, helping, supporting from the sidelines. The boys liked how thorough you were. You would really put a lot into helping them get better. During these conditioning times you learned Ushijima always stayed late and you always stayed with him, helping where you could. Most of this time was spent in silence but you didn’t mind his company was quite nice. The times you two would talk, it would end up being hours on end talking about anything and everything. These were some of your favorite break memories. Sooner than you’d like it was time to start year two.

Not long into starting your second year Ushijima was announced to have made the All-Japan Youth team. The team took this as a time to go out an celebrate, though you weren’t much of a party person of course you attended. You were outside away from the noise when you felt a presence behind you. A presence you were very familiar with, Ushijima. “Hey Y/N. What are you doing out here?” “Just getting some fresh air the party is just a lot. It’s a bit overwhelming. What about you?” “I also came for some fresh air.” “Y/n…” You turned to the tall ace who was now mere inches away. “Yes Wakatoshi-kun?” “Thank you…” “What? What did I do?” “I honestly don’t think I would have made the All-Japan Youth team without your help during extra practice.” “You definitely, still would have made it without my help, you’re really talented Ushi. Never doubt that.” “Thanks Y/N” You could practically feel the heat radiating off his body he was so close. It seemed like he wanted to say something else, something more. But of course, Tendo had to interrupt. You both went back inside and enjoyed the party, though you definitely caught him watching you from afar, not that you weren’t doing the same.

Somehow word got to your brother about the party incident, and he blew it way out of proportion. You tried to explain but everything you said made it worse. He was furious and there was no stopping his rage. You assume he exchanged words with Ushijima because suddenly he was completely avoiding you. He would wait for you to leave before working on his extra training and if you refused, he would skip it. He wouldn’t talk to you unless it is necessary for volleyball. You had no idea what your brother said but at this point you were pissed at him for ruining your friendship with Ushijima.

It had been a few weeks and the Semi finals for the Interhigh Preliminaries were upon you. This meant your brother versus your team. Of course, you wanted to cheer for both, but you were so pissed at this point you decided to cheer for neither and just do your manger duties. You could see the tension between the two when they shook hands at the beginning of the game. The game was intense but ultimately Shiratorizawa came out on time and was off to Nationals. You couldn’t help but run over to your brother and friends to comfort them on their loss. Your brother decided to ignore you which just made you madder. You quickly comforted your friends and then went to celebrate with your team. As you walked up to Ushijima he quickly walked away. That was it you had enough. “Ushiwaka!! What is your deal?” you yelled across the gym getting everyone’s attention. You didn’t care if you made a scene this ends now. “Don’t you ignore me Ushiwaka! Was it something I said or did? Was it something my brother said” At that last statement you see a falter in his expression for a second before his face returns to its normal resting position. “It’s nothing Y/N. Stop making a scene.” “You know what Ushijima No I will not stop making a scene I’m tired of being ignored and pushed to the side.” “ Y/n drop it.” You hear your brother yelling at you from across the gym. “ NO you shut up, you don’t get to ruin my friendship and happiness because you’re jealous of his volleyball abilities.” Oikawa was to shocked to reply. “ Ushijima just listen to me, please. I don’t care what my brother said okay. Because you are the piece of me, I wish I didn’t need. Chasing relentlessly, still fight and I don’t know why, but if our love is tragedy. Why are you my remedy and if our love is insanity, why are you my clarity?” “Y/N…” “I know you feel it too. Honestly it’s fucking crazy but I love you Wakatoshi.” The entire gym was silent it felt like an eternity before you heard him utter, “I love you too Y/N.”

Chapter 8: Ushijima

Prompt: Reader falls asleep on Character’s shoulder Character: Ushijima _________________

Since starting your third year at Shiratorizawa Academy, you can’t remember the last time you’ve gotten a proper amount of sleep.

Much less sleep in general.

Being in such a prestigious school, of course the workload would be bigger than any average high school. You just didn’t expect to be struggling this hard.

Back in middle school, you remember being levels above your peers. Maybe it was the hours your parents spent drilling you at home, or just natural talent, but you’re pretty confident that your reputation half brought you here.

But as you would learn, reputation and talent could only take you so far.

With your house being way too far to walk or bus, your parents allowed you to stay in one of the schools many dorms. While you were ecstatic about your new freedom, it did have some pitfalls.

Pitfalls being that your study habits were only enforced by your parents. So as any normal teenager would, you started to become lazy. And your grades began to slip.

Fortunately for you, there was rule where students had to obtain a certain average by the end of the year, or they would be kicked. That rule definitely blew some smoke up your ass, because during your first and second year, you did your absolute best to keep above that average. Which you did. Fairly well, too.

But entering your third and final year, you were just so tired. All of the motivation and strength seemed to vanish the harder your classes became. You couldn’t understand your subjects, which lead the unhealthy habit of pulling all nighters, trying to grasp the material on your own.

Eventually, your sleeping schedule had become so messed up that you were only powering on coffee and instant noodles just to get through the school day. And like a deadly cycle, certain classes and concepts were harder to comprehend the longer your brain was starved of sleep.

One example being. Advanced Functions.

For the life of you, you just couldn’t seem to understand anything in that class. No matter how hard you tried to concentrate, tried to focus, it was always in one ear out the other. The textbook seemed so convoluted that it only managed to confuse you further, so studying on your own was a no go.

Needless to say, you weren’t even close to passing this class, and final exams were coming soon. You absolutely needed to do well in this, or else you’d get a letter sent home to your parents, and you can’t even imagine what they’d do to you.

Thankfully, your teacher had the same thought. After class ended, he called you over to his desk.

“I’ve asked a student in this class if they’d be willing to tutor you. I haven’t told them anything about your grades, just that you need some help. They’re available to work with you on Tuesdays in the library. Will that be alright with you?” You manage to keep your face passive and devoid of any emotion. Honestly, you weren’t exactly keen to be tutored, but with your grades this low, you’re really don’t have any other choice other than to throw away your pride and bite the bullet.

“Yes, thank you Sensei, that would be perfect.” You bow and make your exit, having your respectful smile drop the second your face is out of view. You sigh heavily as you made your way to your dorm.

You just hope whoever’s tutoring you can help make sense of this nonsense.

Ushijima was a busy man. Key word was. After losing to Karasuno, the time he needed spend in the gym was significantly less than before. Of course, he went to the gym to practice regularly anyways, working on anything and everything to improve. But, after the coach found out, he told Ushijima to relax and take a break, claiming that he should take this time to rest and relax. Just for a couple weeks, and to take time focusing on his studies.

The only problem was, he didn’t need to focus on his studies. Or relax. He already had highest marks in most of his classes, and stress had never been an issue for him. While most ordinary students could study everything under two hours, he could. While most couldn’t function with five or less hours of sleep, he did. Ushijima had gotten so used to his hectic timetable, that having a huge chunk of it missing was extremely odd to him. Like he didn’t know what to do with himself.

“This is your time to find a hobby, Wakatoshi-kun.” Tendou had told him, to which he only tilted his head in confusion.

“But I do have a-”

“One that isn’t volleyball.” That made him pause. A hobby… That wasn’t volleyball?

Was there really anything?

If there was, he couldn’t think of one.

“How do I find a hobby?” He asks, causing Tendou to hum.

“You gotta try different things out. See if you like it or not.” Ushijima nods, absorbing the advice. It was good advice, but it did bring up an important question.

What’s one thing he could try?

That stuck with him, circling his head for the rest of the day. There seemed to be too many and none all at once. Even if he did find some that seemed interesting, which would he do first? Could he do multiple at once to become more efficient? What if he liked a new hobby but had to stop due to his schedule becoming normal again? If that’s a possibility, what was even the point of trying to find something new?

Ushijima was close to exploding with all the questions that he couldn’t answer and was about to call Tendou again for help, at least until his advanced functions teacher called him to his desk.

“Ushijima-kun, I need your help with something. There’s a student in this class, (Name), who needs a little help understanding the material. Since your season is over and you’re fairly good at the subject, do you think you could help her out?”

As if the gods heard his cries for help, an opportunity had dropped on his lap. But did tutoring count as a hobby? It seemed like a commitment too…

‘You gotta try different things out. See if you like it or not.’ Tendou’s words ring in Ushijima’s head. Well, if he had to try different things out, this seemed like a good start. With the thought being the final push, he agrees with a solemn nod.

“I don’t have a problem with it.”

You jerk awake from the bell ringing loudly in your ear. You confusedly look around to see students getting up and collecting their items around you, signaling in your brain that you must’ve fallen asleep in class again, and you slept through yet another lecture.

Guess I’ll be staying up late again…

You yawn, standing and picking up your bag before making your way out of the class, about to go the cafeteria, at least until you feel your phone vibrating in your pocket.

Was someone calling you?

Confused, you pull it out to hear a soft alarm and text across your screen in dark bold letters reading ‘Tutoring today at the library!’ causing your eyes to widen. You had completely forgotten about it! You let out a slur of curses as you rush up the stairs to the library, hoping that you didn’t make your tutor wait too long.

Practically slamming the library door open, you speed walk to the study area of the library, searching the students that littered the desks, seeing if you recognized anyone from your class. You stand there for a couple minutes longer than necessary, with your extremely heavy eyelids making it considerably difficult to scan peoples faces, but after not seeing anyone at first glance, you start to walk around the area. You don’t know how much time passes until someone calls out to you.

“(Name)-san.” The deep voice makes you jump far harder than it should’ve, with you almost dropping your school bag. You collect yourself as fast as you could and turn your head to the sound, finding none other than the star of the school.

Ushijima Wakatoshi.

Your brain blanks as you continue to stare at him, your mind too tired and too shocked to put together sentences. After a couple minutes of silence, he tilts his head, clearly waiting for your response. That manages to kick your brain into gear.

“Wakatoshi-san.” Your voice is meek, and your face flushes at how stupid you sound. If Ushijima sees your cringe, he doesn’t acknowledge it.

“I’m glad I found you. I thought for a moment you had forgotten about our session.” His comment confirms your suspicions, but it only manages to disorientate you further.

You just never would’ve assumed that the Ushiwaka, the ace and captain of this powerhouse school, was wasting his time tutoring you. You mean, you’re not entirely surprised he was picked to help, he was one of the smartest in your class, (You’re fairly certain he’s a robot, how could someone be so good at everything?) but you just thought he would be way too busy to help anyone.

You also thought with his personality he wouldn’t want to help anybody. Honestly, you’re just confused as to why he even agreed to help you at all. Maybe to put it on his resume?

You don’t know, you assumed that being a prodigy in sport was enough, but you digress.

“Come, I’ve already set up a table.” He motions you to follow him, and with a soft ‘alright’, you follow him to a more secluded part of the study area, with a single desk surrounded by bookshelves, each stocked to the brim with dusty old books. On the desk was you assume his study books and utensils neatly organised. Of course he was a neat freak.

You sit in the chair just across from his, feeling your body almost go limp in exhaustion the second you sit down. You wait until he settles himself and opens one of his books. Your brain once more begins to fail you as you stupidly watch him flip through pages, basically falling asleep with your eyes open. You don’t even realize until you hear a sharp knock on the table.

“(Name)-san?” The voice suddenly comes into focus and you snap up. “Y-yes?”

“Aren’t you going to pull out your books?” Ushijima asks, face stoic as ever. You stutter out a slightly slurred reply as you open your school bag and search for your books.

Only to not find your math books, but your biology books. You scrunch your nose in confusion. It takes your brain a couple of seconds to realize what you did.

You switched your books on accident.

Oh, how badly you want to curl up and cry right now.

Not only was it embarrassing to have one the most popular boys in school tutor you, but to also act like a total ditz was almost too much for you to take. It’s almost like the gods want to mess with you for shits and giggles at this point.

You have to slowly put your bag down, and look back to your tutor, who’s been staring at you for the past few minutes now.

“Wakatoshi-san, I just realized I brought the wrong books by accident. I’m sorry but I’ll have to go back to my dorms to get the right ones.” You give him what you hope is an apologetic smile and begin to stand up, until his voices rings in your ear once more.

“That’s not necessary.” You pause.

“Excuse me?”

“We’ve already wasted enough time as it is. I have no problem sharing my books for this session.” With that he pulls out the chair right next to him and offers the seat.

You’re pretty sure almost every girl would kill to be in your position right now. You can’t stop the blush that forms on your tired face.

“Oh-uh… ah, thank y-you.” You finally managed to get out, wanting to slap yourself subconsciously as you take the seat next to him. The second you sit down; your overworked brain is hit by so many things at once.

He smells nice. Like really nice. You definitely wouldn’t mind curling up to that. Not to mention, his warmth.

You can feel the warmth coming off him in waves.

Sleeping next to that would be so comforting…

You’re snapped out of your thoughts again when you hear a textbook being slid over to you. If you were a little more awake then you are now, you would realize how intimate this was. Sharing a book caused you to be a lot closer than necessary, but of course with you being sleep deprived and Ushijima being Ushijima, neither of you commented.

“So, what are you having troubles in?” He asked, and you go to answer, only to be met with emptiness.

You were so confused; you didn’t even know what you were confused about. You mentally kick yourself. That’s a new low.

Of course, not wanting the captain to know how much a dumbass you were, you responded, “The first couple chapters really messed with me.” Which isn’t a lie, you just didn’t mention the rest of the chapters that messed you up as well. He nods and goes to the beginning. Then begins to explain the main concepts of the chapters.

“A polynomial function has specific characteristics that define them from another other kind of function. With those characteristics being a domain of real numbers, a possibility of the range being restricted by both upper and lower bounds, and these functions do not have horizontal…”

You hear his words turn into nothing but mixed sounds as he continued to explain. As much as you tried to focus, you feel your eyelids becoming impossible heavy. You were trying, you really were, even pinching yourself ever once in a while and biting the inside of your mouth as hard as possible, but with Ushijima’s voice this low and soothing, you were fighting a losing battle. You didn’t expect that when he wasn’t scaring you out of sleep, that his voice was actually extremely nice to listen too.

Not to mention his unexpected but totally welcomed comforting aura, his warmth, his smell and the quiet atmosphere, they were all begging you to let go and leave the realm of the conscious. While you were too busy fighting the war, Ushijima was too focused on the book and pointing out examples that he didn’t even realize.

You only manage to last a couple more minutes, until you see nothing but long awaited black.

“…Then there’s quartic, quintic, so on and so forth. There are polynomials bigger than these, but the likely not to appear on the exam so we don’t have to cover them. Between these main five functions there are subdivision that we can also use to characterize them, for example-” Ushijima is cut off by a warm pressure falling on his arm. He turns confused to find you, positively knocked out and now using his arm as a pillow. His thought process is cut off.

Well this is… a development.

Ushijima figured you were tired. In fact, he had known for a long time, that you weren’t getting the sleep you needed. Just a quick glance in class, or talking to you, your slurred speech and heavy eyes, made it easy for anybody to figure out. However, he didn’t think it was to the point of passing out anywhere and everywhere.

He’d be impressed if he wasn’t inherently worried.

He been around people who were sleep deprived, previous senpais and enthusiastic kouhai’s who couldn’t get enough of volleyball, and it does terrible things to brain. Once it had been the point of someone ending up in the hospital.

Ushijima watched you with worried thoughts swirling his mind, as you had a look of absolute comfort on your face, even sleepily nuzzling your face into his arm, which caused him to stare at you a couple seconds above normalcy.

His slightly weird stare was cut off by the bell, which did put his thoughts back into gear. What was he supposed to do? Wake you? Call a teacher?

Well, one things for sure, he couldn’t just leave you here.

So, seeing this as the best course of action, he attempted to wake you.

“…(Name)-san…” He said gently, nudging you with the arm you were sleeping on, you made some sounds of discomfort, before rubbing you nose into his arm again and falling back to sleep.

It was almost cute. Almost.

“(Name)-san.” Ushijima says with a little more finality, which does cause you stir a little more, even causing you to open your eyes a little, but he could tell you were far from awake.

“She’ll be right with you.” You breathe out, which does make Ushijima lips quirk up the tiniest bit.

“(Name)-san, you have to wake up.” He’s reached his regular loudness now, hoping that he wouldn’t have to raise it higher to get you to wake. Thankfully, you manage to open your eyes fully, but is was safe to say that you weren’t completely conscious. You were almost like in a drunken state, with your pupils blown wide and the dazed expression you wore. Looking at you, Ushijima then decided what he needed to do. He couldn’t possibly let you go to class like this, not when you needed something so vital to the brain.

He grabs you by the shoulders to bring your head off him, making sure you don’t wobble too much. Once he’s sure you won’t bang your head on the table, he gets up and starts to collect your things.

“Hm? Is the session over?” You slur, eyes have lidded as you watch him pick up your bag.

“Yes.”

“Did I do well?” You ask with a tired smile, clearly not remembering what happened. Or what didn’t happen. For reasons even he didn’t know, Ushijima decides to humor you.

“Yes.” You raise your arms in the air in happiness, letting out an excited ‘yay!’ in a shushed voice, which Ushijima is extremely grateful for, as he didn’t want to cause a ruckus in the library.

He turns back to you. “Can you stand?” His question turns your mood for some reason, and you huff like a child. “’Course I can stand! Who d’you take me for?” And very quickly, as if to prove your point, you stand from your seat, only for your mind to spin and knees to wobble. Out of reflex to stop you from falling, Ushijima grabs your waist to steady you.

You two stand like that for a while, with your bodies a lot closer than they should’ve been. After what felt like an eternity, you break out into a goofy yet proud smile.

“See? Told ya I could stand.” Ushijima face is passive at best and remains silent. Only giving you a nod while he grabs his stuff along with yours as you two make it out of the library. He holds onto your waist to make sure you don’t fall when walking, but when he secures that you can walk, albeit a little slow, he still doesn’t let go. Walking through the halls and out to the dorms you both we’re met with a lot of stares. And whispers.

Not that either of you noticed.

After he’s exited the school and begins to walk to the girl’s dorms.

“What is your dorm number?” Ushijima asks, for you to snap out of whatever trance you were in.

“Uhhh… red… I think…” He looks at you, visibly confused.

“What?” You look at him back, clearly trying to think through the mess that was your brain.

“Wait… What did you ask me?” Ushijima has to keep in a sigh.

“Your dorm number.”

“Oh… That’s… Uhh… four…thirty-one.” You say.

“(Name)-san, there’s only two floors.” You two now stand in the front of the girls’ dorms, and since it was lunch hour, the likelihood that someone would be there, was considerably low, which did save Ushijima the explanation. You try to articulate a proper answer, but your brain this melted, Ushijima didn’t really have high hopes. So instead, he let go of you for a second, to read the names on the lists of the many mailboxes that littered the entrance hall. After a couple minutes, he found your name.

“208.” He says. Not even close. He watches the look of realization appear on your face.

“Ohhh, yeah that’s right!” He doesn’t hold back the sigh this time, grabbing your hand, and bringing you up to your dorm. Surprisingly, the dorm is unlocked, but you must’ve forgotten to lock it this morning when you left. He opens it and leads you in. You just follow in after him and just stare, clearly not knowing what to do.

Ushijima drops your things on your desk and takes you and sits you on your lower bunk bed.

“You should stay here and rest. You don’t have to worry about your next class, I’ll go and tell your teacher that you’re not feeling well.” He tells you, but like before, you just stare at him, telling him its just going in one ear and out the other. Out of the corner of his eye, he’s spots a random notepad and pencil. Ushijima turns away from you and takes the notepad and pencil.

“I’ll just write this down for you, so you can read it when you are in a correct state of mind. I hope you can learn to have a proper sleep schedule, it’s extremely vital to your health and not sleeping is actually- ” When he turns to you again to place the note, he finds you just as before. Knocked out on your bed, not even lifting your legs from the ground.

Ushijima watches you again for more than he cared to admit, before taking his stuff and leaving your room.

And to think he just wanted to try something new…

You slowly open your eyes, to find yourself on your bed and still in uniform. You sit up, confusion hitting you hard.

How did I get here? What day is it? What time is it? How long did I sleep for?

You started panicking a little, at least until you spot a piece of folded paper on your nightstand. Curious, you open it.

(Name)-san, you fell asleep during our session, and I didn’t feel it was acceptable to leave you, so I brought you back to your dorm. I told your teachers that you weren’t feeling well, so please feel free to relax and rest. I strongly recommend that you get a proper sleep schedule, as what you are doing is dangerous.

We’ll continue our tutoring next Tuesday, hopefully you should feel better by then.

Ushijima Wakatoshi

The car would seem too quiet once you dropped Tendou off at a train station a few stops down from his hotel.

You had insisted on driving him the whole way, but he simply wiggled his eyebrows and threw finger guns at you and Ushijima after accepting the ride and getting in your rental car. Something about "not wanting to third wheel", which you had also insisted he wouldn't be. You enjoyed having him around, and it was apparent your boyfriend did too.

Tendou flew in from Paris without his partner, since they couldn't take the time off from work for it. Consequently, he also attended the Shiratorizawa Academy reunion party alone. It gave you the opportunity to get to know your boyfriend's best friend better, which you appreciated, but you would've felt less awkward with Ushijima if Tendou's partner had been beside him.

Tendou exited the car in such a rush that you were suddenly concerned that you'd been driving too slowly. He flashed his phone screen to you, as if he could read your thoughts, and you saw that his partner was calling. You stepped out of the car to see him off, since Ushijima was already waiting on the sidewalk.

Standing beside your boyfriend, you watched Tendou cross the street and practically fly into the train station.

Maybe he wanted to get a head start on showing them a bit about the city he grew up in. At the party, you had heard him telling Ushijima that he was going to film himself eating around Sendai for them while he was here, which you thought was so sweet. The next time Ushijima flew somewhere without you – which would be soon, when game season began – you'd make sure to ask him to take some videos to go along with the pictures of his day that he sent you.

You've been standing outside in the cold for a while, feeling a chill come over you as a signal of the time. As if sensing your discomfort, Ushijima removed his coat to drape it over your shoulders. You pulled it tighter around you after you gave him your thanks.

"Should we get going?" he asked, even if he made no move to leave his spot beside you, resting on a guard rail outside the train station where the two of you had seen Tendou off.

"I thought it would've been nice to see Tendou-kun's partner in person," you said, instead, closing the uppermost button on Ushijima's coat under your chin so that it would stay put around your shoulders, even with the wind. "We could've had a café double date."

He hummed as a means of agreement, leaning closer to you to share his warmth. "Satori would have liked that," he said. "He has excellent taste in pastries. You would enjoy coffee tasting with his partner, too."

The wind tumbled past the train station before you could respond, reminding you to get back in the car and away from the clutch of winter. Without brushing your hair out of your eyes, you immediately turned to nuzzle your face into Ushijima's chest to warm your nose and cheeks.

"Okay, we can go now." Your voice was muffled by his shirt, which was far too thin for the weather. Once again, you marvelled at Ushijima's superhuman heat-generating and cold-resisting ability, much more in awe than you were jealous. It would've definitely freed up a lot of room in your luggage if you didn't get cold as easily as you did.

Pulling away from him and instantly mourning the loss of his warmth, you stretched out your hand for him to hold for the short walk back to the car. Ushijima took your hand and pulled your arm around his waist so that you could continue to use him to stay warm. "I don't want you to get cold," he said, smoothing your wind-tousled hair down and tucking the longer strands behind your ears.

"You spoil me." You gave him an appreciative squeeze as you started down the length of the train station, smiling. He put his own arm around you and returned the gesture, easily matching your steps.

"We can visit Satori and his partner in Paris in the summer," Ushijima said, as he held the door open for you. You paused in your attempt to get in the car, before you righted your posture and stood up straight beside the driver's seat. He repeated himself, giving you time to absorb what he was saying. The smile on your face only grew when his offer set in.

You put your hand on his arm, relishing the way he was solid under your palm. That you weren't dreaming. "That sounds amazing, Toshi," you said. "It won't clash with anything on your schedule?"

Ushijima shook his head, giving you a small smile of his own. "I have time in the late summer."

My favorite shiratorizawa headcanon

theres a Boys Volleyball Dorm room

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It started a couple years back before Ushijima and the others attended the private school.

Shiratorizawa Private Academy decided to test out a new dorm layout which ment that year the third years get to try it out.

The third year dorm rooms were made bigger then the first and second year rooms it more being layed out like an apartment holding a kitchen, bathroom/s, two bedrooms (which together could hold 4 students) and of course a open room connecting everything (livingroom)

The third years in the volleyball club at the time were lucky enough to end up in the same dorm room, it being alot more spacious then they thought they started talking about it to the team.

One day a second year on the team asked if they can sleepover at the dorm, the third years surprisingly said yes this made the other people on the team want to go aswell.

It ended up being a lot of the team in the dorm leaving the place feeling smaller but cozy, the team didnt mind and ended up doing these sleepovers a lot of the time to the point you would find some first and second years just staying in the dorm everynight, though the third years never minded.

It ended up becoming a tradition for the volleyball team to stay in this dorm even after the third years graduated it would just be passed down to the new third years this continued till present day where Ushijima and the others are third years and now 'rule' the Boys Volleyball Dorm.

What you'll find them doing

● You can usually find Ushijima in his shared room with tendou studying but not without being yelled at by Tendou to split Shirabu and Goshiki up before a fight breaks out.

● Tendou's usually in the kitchen and living room, you'll find him in the kitchen cooking for the team since nobody else is bothered to but he doesnt mind.

● Semi's also usually found in his shared room with reon but hes not studying he usually likes to practice music and youll find Reon and Shirabu along side him most times giving him feedback on what they think

● Goshiki and Taichi are mainly in the livingroom using the TV to play games you'll also find Tendou in there aswell when hes not in the kitchen, if you were outside the dorm you would hear Goshiki screaming at losing to Taichi in mario cart for the 8th time

● Yamagata is always somewhere new, sometimes hes helping Tendou in the kitchen other times hes laughing at Goshiki's rage and times hes in Semi's room relaxing to his music practice.

Sleeping arrangements

● Ushijima and Tendou get there room to themselves, tendou likes to take the top bunk since he likes to stare at the star stickers that were left there by other years. Though the room is just theirs it doesnt stop the others from running in to hide from an angry Shirabu.

● Semi and Reon's room doesnt have a bunk bed like ushijimas and tendous so for this factor they have a bigger room which makes Shirabu stay in there room on a matress taken from Goshiki's first year dorm.

● Toshiki, Taichi and Yamagata sleep in the living room, for shits a giggles randomly one day Yamagata brought in a tent and set it up in the living room and now sleeps in there with Taichi. Goshiki tried to sleep in there aswell but it was cramped so they played a game of uno and who ever lost would have to sleep on the couch.. Goshiki lost in the end.

But alas, life shall never be easy for Karasuno

Because when winter break approaches, you once again head out of town

You've got family and friends to visit and it's winter break ❄️

When Y/n first found out that she’d been awarded a sports scholarship at Shiratorizawa Academy to continue playing volleyball, she was over-the-moon and so were her parents. The night she received her scholarship she already began to decided what she’d take to the dorms with her and what she’d leave behind, even though it’d be a good few weeks before she could move in. When Y/n finally did move in, the whole thing felt surreal it her as if she’d wake up and the dorm that she was in would be gone.

It was 4:15 on a Monday morning and Y/n was laying on her back in her new bed just staring at the ceiling. It had been like this for her the whole night, she just couldn’t wait to meet her new teammates and start playing with them. Y/n then decided that she’d go on a run to sooth her excitement and hopefully make her more focused on the day to come. The girl quietly got out of bed, as not to wake her roommate, and got changed into her sweats before putting her running shoes on and leaving the dorm.

She’d been out for a good half an hour before she decided that she’d make her way back to the dorms and get ready for the day to come. As she was running back, the girl noticed that her shoe lace was untied so she decided to stop by a traffic light while she knelt down to do it up. Once she had tied her shoe lace in a tight double knot, she pushed off on the ground to stand up but instead was pushed down, making her fall backwards.

“Sorry”, a monotone voice spoke. Y/n looked up to see a tall, dark-haired boy looking down at her holding out his arm. Y/n took it and the boy pulled her up continuing what he was saying, “I wasn’t looking where I was going”

“Don’t worry about! It was my fault really, I shouldn’t have stopped to tie my laces at a crossing”, Y/n smiled at him to let him know that she was ok. The dark-haired boy nodded in acknowledgement before turning around and running off, which signalled Y/n to do the same.

It had been a week since Aoba Johsai had lost the Spring Qualifiers to Karasuno. Since the loss Oikawa had been very distant. You figured he was just dealing with a lot and had been giving him his space. Today though, you decided you would go surprise him with cuddles and bring him some milk bread (since it was his favorite after all). You arrived at his house, knocking and then entering quietly incase he was asleep.

You- Hey Babe! It’s me.

You- Kawababe? It’s me. I brought milk bread.

You waited for a response and decided to go check his room after not hearing anything, thinking he might be asleep.

As you crept closer to his room you heard muffled noises and noticed the door was slightly agar. You pushed the door open slowly and the scene before you broke your heart.

You- Kawa…

Oikawa- Y/N!! What are you doing here? I... It’s not what it looks like, I swear.

In front of you was your ��loving” boyfriend and R/N, the head girl of the Oikawa fangirl club in bed together (doing yknow what).

R/N- What do you mean its not what it looks like, babe? It is exactly that. He doesn’t need you anymore. We all know you could never be what he needed. That’s why he came to me after the loss. That’s why he’s been avoiding you. He’s been with me ALL week.

You- Was I not enough...? >You asked tears streaming down your face<

Oikawa- You are more than enough I swear! Please let’s talk about this! Let me make it up to you.

You- NO!!! We only ever made one promise and you broke that. You broke my trust and that isn’t something I can just get passed. Out of everyone to cheat with… R/N… Knowing how insecure she constantly made me feel and how horrible she treated me for dating you. You really said hit them where it hurts. Well, you succeeded congrats. Incase you didn’t get the memo we’re through and fuck you… Fuck you both.

With that you left his house tears streaming down your face. So hurt and betrayed. Oikawa tried to follow you, calling your name but you ignored him running home to hide away in your room.

-Time Skip 2 Weeks-

You hadn’t been going to school. You knew you couldn’t keep skipping but you just weren’t ready to face everything yet. You did try going back to school once two days ago, but that didn’t go well. At this point the whole school knew about what happened and the fangirl club was more brutal toward you then ever. Rubbing the whole thing in your face and reminding you how Oikawa deserves better.

The team themselves had reached out several times to check on you and apologizing. They went as far as showing up at your house, but you couldn’t face them. You knew it wasn’t their fault it just hurt to bad. You loved them you just couldn’t face them, though you really did miss them.

Oikawa kept reaching out and trying to talk to you, that was part of the reason you felt you couldn’t go back to Seijoh. You didn’t want anything to do with him. Right after everything happened Oikawa called and texted like crazy until you blocked him, every text left unread, and every voicemail left unheard. He even came to your house one time but after hours of pleading to see you with no avail he went home.

You decided switching schools was the best choice. Though you were scared and moving schools especially during third year wasn’t normal and wouldn’t be easy you felt it was the right choice. You decided to use this as an opportunity to apply to the school you were too scared to apply to when you were originally looking at schools.

Now here you are, reading your acceptance letter to the Shiratorizawa Academy. Shiratorizawa is very difficult to get into and it was really hard to convince them to even let you take the entrance exam, but once they saw your scores it was an easy yes for them.

You start Shiratorizawa tomorrow, you decided it was time to reach back out to Seijoh and say your final goodbyes. You texted Iwaizumi and asked him to meet, just him. Iwaizumi was quick to say yes and was over to your house in ten. You answered the door and immediately hugged him, you secretly missed him the most. You two were quite close before everything because he was Oikawa’s best friend after all.

You- Iwa he’s your best friend, I know were friends, but you can still be friends with him. I know you were his friend first. Plus, I actually asked you hear to tell you to let the team know I’m really going to miss them, and I hope you all keep working hard. I am doing something for myself to help me heal. I’m transferring schools. So you guys don’t have to choose between us.

Iwaizumi- You’re transferring schools? Where? And we all still want to be your friends and in your life too.

You- Were all still friends, you guys can text me and we can still all hang out anytime. I just need some time to adjust to my new school.

Iwa stayed and you guys hung out for a couple hours before he went home.

-Timeskip to next day (Monday)-

Today you started your new school. The day went by quickly and was quite smooth. You even made a few friends. This new start made you happy. It was just what you needed. On your way out you heard the noise, the noise you loved so much. The noise you’ve missed for the past few weeks. You unconsciously found yourself walking toward the sound of sneakers squeaking and balls hitting the floor. Without realizing it you found yourself outside the volleyball gym, and couldn’t help but peak in. You watched awed by the team in at work in front of you.

Tendo- Hey, are you a fangirl?

Tendo came up behind you startling you. Jumping you turned to face to face with the red hair boy.

You- Oh no, sorry. I’m actually new here. I was really close to the volleyball team at my old school and unconsciously followed the sound here. Sorry.

Tendo- Well it’s great to meet you. I’m Satori Tendo third year, middle blocker.

You- Oh Yea!! You’re that really awesome guess blocker, right? Your blocks are like scary accurate. I’ve always wanted to see you up close. I’ve seen you play but to be up close is something totally different.

Tendo- Wow, thank you. Why don’t you come in and watch… um?

You- Y/n L/N, third year as well.

With that Tendo led you in and you watched practice. After practice Tendo introduced the team to you. They were pretty intimidating at first but they slowly got to know you and they were actually quite nice. You ended up hanging out with them all the time. Slowly you lost touch with the Seijoh players, not intentionally but everyone was busy and you guys hadn’t seen each other in months. Besides you were very busy, Tendo kept the whole team on there toes.

One day you finally told the team everything and explained why you switched schools. They were all there for you and it only made there hatred for Oikawa stronger. Slowly you found yourself healing and even possibly falling in love again.

You were watching the team practice, currently they were on a break.

Tendo- So, are you going to tell him?

You- What are you talking about Tendo?

Tendo- You know exactly what I’m talking about.

You- I really don’t.

Tendo- Its obvious (to me at least) that you like him. You should tell him.

You- >Flustered< Huh? What are you talking about? Confess to who?

Tendo- Wakatoshi-kun duh.

You- >Your face is now beet red< I do NOT have a crush on Ushiwaka. Besides he wants to focus on volleyball and doesn’t have time for dating; which I TOTALLY respect.

Tendo- I mean honestly doesn’t hurt to try. You never know he might just make an exception to date you. After all he totally likes you back. Show that Oikawa dude you don’t need him anymore.

You- What are you talking about?

Tendo- Ushijima is my best friend, I know him better than anyone. I can read him like a book. He may seem stoic and emotionless, but he likes you trust me.

You- Fine, fine I’ll do it. I mean he at least deserves to know how I feel. He’s been nothing but good to me and he deserves the truth.

After practice you pulled Ushijima to the side.

Ushiwaka- Hello Y/N. Did you need something?

You- Yes actually. Listen before I say this I don’t want it to ruin our friendship. You are very important to me Ushiwaka. Promise it won’t ruin things, please.

Ushiwaka- Okay, I promise. Now what is it?

You- I know you want to focus on volleyball, and I respect and support that one hundred percent. I know how important a career in volleyball is to you, but graduation is quickly approaching and before we leave I want you to know… Ushijima I have feelings for you… I like you… in more than a friend way.

Silence filled the space between you, causing you to become super flustered and nervous.

You- I totally get it and I hope this doesn’t ruin anything. I just wanted to be honest with you. I…

Ushiwaka- Y/N, I believe I like you as well. As more than a friend. Would you consider going on a date with me?

You and Tendo at the same time- YES!!!

You- AHHHH! Tendo!!! What are you doing here?

Tendo- I couldn’t not come see my two best friends finally get together. And its all thanks to my amazing advice.

That weekend you and Ushijima went on your date, which went amazing. It was everything you could have dreamed of and more. He was a total gentleman. After the date Ushijima asked you to officially be his and of course you said yes.

You were hanging out with Tendo, Ushijima, Semi, Goshiki, and Shirabu (though he was dragged here by Semi and Goshki). The rest of the team was suppose to meet you guys in an hour or so for a date turned whole team hang out (thanks to Tendo). You guys were hanging in the park when you hear someone calling your name. You look up to see most of the Seijoh volleyball team.

Oikawa- Hey, Y/N could we um talk? Please?

The team tried to talk but you cut them off.

You- Sure.

You stepped off to the side with Oikawa while the others started talking amongst themselves.

You- What is it Oikawa?

Oikawa- It’s been a while… how are you?

You- I’m fine. How are you?

Oikawa- I’m doing okay, I guess. Really miss you though. You transferred to Shiratorizawa?

You- Yes.

Oikawa- That’s cool. I know it was you first choice for schools, but you didn’t think you’d make it. Glad to see you prove yourself wrong.

You- Thank you. Now what did you want Oikawa?

Oikawa- I wanted to apologize for everything. You were so good to me and you didn’t deserve what I did to you. >He reaches out and brushes your arm<

You quickly pull back from him.

You- Oikawa, thank you and I accept your apology but please don’t. We are through, done for good.

Oikawa- Please Y/N one chance that’s all I ask.

You- Oikawa I… I can’t I have a boyfriend.

As if on cue Ushijima walked over and wrapped his arm around you.

Ushijima- Oikawa

Oikawa- (directed at Ushijima) Ushiwaka…(directed at you) you’re dating him… aren’t you Y/N?

You- Yes, he’s everything I ever dreamed of and more. Sorry Oikawa. Hope you find happiness one day. Sorry, that’s just not me.

Oikawa- I understand… Also Ushiwaka, hurt her and I will personally kick your ass, got it? Don’t make the same mistake as me. Cherish her and hold her close.

After that you all returned to the group. You informed everyone that you and Ushijima were dating. Everyone continued catching up before parting ways. After everything you and Ushijima walked to his house together.

On the walk out of no where Ushijima blurts

Ushiwaka- I love you.

You- You what ?

You ask as you stop in your tracks. Ushijima turns grabs your hands looks you in the eyes and says it again.

Ushiwaka- I love you Y/N.

You- I… I love you too Ushi.

You guys continued home. Honestly, Oikawa really hurt you but in some ways you had to thank him. Without him you may never have found your way to the love of your life.

You- Hey Babe! It’s me. You- Kawababe? It’s me. I brought milk bread.

You waited for a response and decided to go check his room after not hearing anything, thinking he might be asleep.

As you crept closer to his room you heard muffled noises and noticed the door was slightly agar. You pushed the door open slowly and the scene before you broke your heart.

You- Kawa… Oikawa- Y/N!! What are you doing here? I... It’s not what it looks like, I swear.

In front of you was your “loving” boyfriend and R/N, the head girl of the Oikawa fangirl club in bed together (doing yknow what).

Oikawa- You are more than enough I swear! Please let’s talk about this! Let me make it up to you. You- NO!!! We only ever made one promise and you broke that. You broke my trust and that isn’t something I can just get passed. Out of everyone to cheat with… R/N… Knowing how insecure she constantly made me feel and how horrible she treated me for dating you. You really said hit them where it hurts. Well, you succeeded congrats. Incase you didn’t get the memo we’re through and fuck you… Fuck you both.

With that you left his house tears streaming down your face. So hurt and betrayed. Oikawa tried to follow you, calling your name but you ignored him running home to hide away in your room.

-Time Skip 2 Weeks-

Iwaizumi- Y/N its good to see you again. How are you? Shittykawa is an absolute dumbass and I’m sorry for what he did. The team has shunned him since it happened. None of support him and his decision. You- Iwa he’s your best friend, I know were friends, but you can still be friends with him. I know you were his friend first. Plus, I actually asked you hear to tell you to let the team know I’m really going to miss them, and I hope you all keep working hard. I am doing something for myself to help me heal. I’m transferring schools. So you guys don’t have to choose between us.

Iwaizumi- You’re transferring schools? Where? And we all still want to be your friends and in your life too. You- Were all still friends, you guys can text me and we can still all hang out anytime. I just need some time to adjust to my new school.

Iwa stayed and you guys hung out for a couple hours before he went home.

-Timeskip to next day (Monday)-

Tendo- Hey, are you a fangirl?

Tendo came up behind you startling you. Jumping you turned to face to face with the red hair boy.

You- Oh no, sorry. I’m actually new here. I was really close to the volleyball team at my old school and unconsciously followed the sound here. Sorry. Tendo- Well it’s great to meet you. I’m Satori Tendo third year, middle blocker.

You- Y/n L/N, third year as well.

You were watching the team practice, currently they were on a break.

Tendo- So, are you going to tell him? You- What are you talking about Tendo?

Tendo- You know exactly what I’m talking about. You- I really don’t.

Tendo- Its obvious (to me at least) that you like him. You should tell him. You- >Flustered< Huh? What are you talking about? Confess to who?

Tendo- Wakatoshi-kun duh. You- >Your face is now beet red< I do NOT have a crush on Ushiwaka. Besides he wants to focus on volleyball and doesn’t have time for dating; which I TOTALLY respect.

Tendo- I mean honestly doesn’t hurt to try. You never know he might just make an exception to date you. After all he totally likes you back. Show that Oikawa dude you don’t need him anymore. You- What are you talking about?

Tendo- Ushijima is my best friend, I know him better than anyone. I can read him like a book. He may seem stoic and emotionless, but he likes you trust me. You- Fine, fine I’ll do it. I mean he at least deserves to know how I feel. He’s been nothing but good to me and he deserves the truth.

After practice you pulled Ushijima to the side.

Ushiwaka- Hello Y/N. Did you need something? You- Yes actually. Listen before I say this I don’t want it to ruin our friendship. You are very important to me Ushiwaka. Promise it won’t ruin things, please.

Ushiwaka- Okay, I promise. Now what is it? You- I know you want to focus on volleyball, and I respect and support that one hundred percent. I know how important a career in volleyball is to you, but graduation is quickly approaching and before we leave I want you to know… Ushijima I have feelings for you… I like you… in more than a friend way.

Silence filled the space between you, causing you to become super flustered and nervous.

You- I totally get it and I hope this doesn’t ruin anything. I just wanted to be honest with you. I… Ushiwaka- Y/N, I believe I like you as well. As more than a friend. Would you consider going on a date with me?

You and Tendo at the same time- YES!!! You- AHHHH! Tendo!!! What are you doing here?

Tendo- I couldn’t not come see my two best friends finally get together. And its all thanks to my amazing advice. You- More like you crazy persistence. >You all laugh at that<

Chapter 11: Ushijimia Pt. 2

Original Prompt: Reader falls asleep on (Character)’s shoulder Character: Ushijima ______________

Stares. You felt your back burn with stares as you walked through the halls of the Shiratorizawa Academy, feeling your heart in the pit of your stomach as you tried your absolute best to seem unbothered. Though truthfully, you were anything but.

The last couple of days have been you sitting in your room trying to recall the most mortifying experience you had ever done. Barely conscious at least.

When you had awoken from your 27 hour sleep (You wish you were exaggerating) and read the note that the ace and captain of the volleyball team, not to mention one of the hottest and most popular boys in school had left for you, you were ready to throw in the towel and leave this earthly plane.

It wasn’t just that you managed to make a complete fool of yourself in front of him, but it was also the fact that you couldn’t even remember what you did.

You’d know for a fact that you did something stupid, because no Gods would be that kind to you, but no matter how much you agonized over what had happened that day, you couldn’t sort through the haziness.

You would also come to find out for sure that something happened, because when you finally decided to stop being a hermit and leave to go to school, because lets be real you didn’t have the grades to not show up to school, you could feel nothing and hear nothing but stares and whispers.

All of which were directed at you.

Oh god, someone have mercy and just end me.

You walked into your first class, with everyone of course, stopping to stare at you. Just like all morning. You bit back a sigh as you silently went to your seat, hoping that nothing brings more attention to you further.

But of course, the Gods have it out of you.

“Ah, (Name)-kun, glad to see you back. Ushijima-kun had said that you weren’t feeling well, so take it easy, alright?” You flushed, mostly because you were not expecting him to actually follow through with what he wrote in that note he gave you, but also because the mention of Wakatoshi’s name in front of the class. You didn’t even have the chance to say anything until, like a chemical reaction, the whispers started.

‘Ushiwaka? Why would he care about her?’

‘Its not like him to do this. Let alone even talk to a girl.’

‘Wonder what she had to do to get his attention, huh?’

You felt your fists clench and teeth clench at the comments. You so badly wanted to whip your head and yell that it wasn’t like that, but you couldn’t. Because you didn’t even know what it was like.

You sigh heavily, putting your head on your desk and close your eyes. But you’re not tired.

You need to know what happened that day. To set things straight and shut down these comments.

You need to talk to Wakatoshi.

Ushijima had put what happened between you two that fateful day in the back of his mind. Because in his mind, nothing had happened.

He had helped a classmate in need, end of story.

But despite himself saying that, and truly believing it, Ushijima still thought of you. It was always in random moments, small intervals while he was doing mundane things. Whether it was practicing spikes, receiving drills, or even when he was in his dorm, it had become somewhat of a habit to let his mind wander to you during the last couple days. He wondered if you got the sleep you so desperately needed, or if you just went back to your old ways. He wondered if you still weren’t feeling well since you hadn’t come to school the last couple days, and what that would mean for your schoolwork.

Somehow, some way, you always manage to worm your way into his mind. It confused him, but he convinced himself it was just worry for a classmate’s wellbeing.

Yes, that was what it was.

Ushijima repeated his mantra in his head again and again as he walked to the change room for practice. In fact, he was so focused, that he didn’t even notice the other third years talking suddenly stop as soon as he made his presence known.

“Good afternoon.” He received the usual greeting, but noticed it was lower in volume. Looking around, he realized the first and second years weren’t anywhere to be found.

“Where are the others?”

“There was mandatory after-school presentation the first and seconds years had. Something about next year classes, I think. They should be here in ten minutes or so.” Semi responded, to which Ushijima nodded, before turning to pull out his gym clothes, totally missing the look that Tendou, Semi and Rheon shared.

“I’m gonna ask him.”

“Tendou, don’t! It’s none of our business!”

“Oh come on, aren’t you the least bit curious?”

“That doesn’t matter!”

“To be fair, I am a little curious.”

“Rheon, don’t side with him on this!”

The hushed whispering is halted the minute Ushijima turns back to his teammates, the three looking like deer’s caught in the headlights. Ushijima’s face remains passive, but his head tilts.

“Is there something I should be aware of?” His question causes the remaining third years to look to each other, before Tendou standing and blurting out the question he had been absolutely dying to say. Semi be damned.

“Wakatoshi-kun, do you have a girlfriend?” Tendou’s voice cuts through the tension of the room, only fill it with twice as much. With Ushijima trying to process the question and the randomness of it, and the other third years looking at him in awkward anticipation.

Well, Rheon and Semi were. Tendou was full on excited and very amused at the thought of Wakatoshi having a girlfriend. Needless to say, he had been bursting with curiosity ever since he heard the rumors.

“No, I don’t. “His answer leaves Tendou animated figure to deflate with disappointment, making Ushijima even more confused. He watches Semi and Rheon share a look.

“Why do you ask?” Ushijima’s friends look at each other, their turn to be confused, before looking back at their captain.

“Wakatoshi-kun, have you not heard the rumors?” Rheon asks, and Ushijima pauses.

“Rumors?”

“Apparently people saw you last week, holding a girl by the waist in the hall.” Semi clarifies, and they all watch Ushijima’s eyes light in recollection.

“Right. (Name)-san.” The silence lasts longer than when they had originally asked the question.

“So, you were walking with that girl?”

“Yes.”

“But you aren’t dating her?”

“No, we aren’t dating.” Tendou gasps dramatically, putting his hand on his head in exaggerated shock. “My best friend, a player... I could’ve never expected this.” Ushijima tilts his head once more at the middle blocker’s antics.

“… I am a player. I don’t understand what’s so inherently shocking about that.” Tendou cackles, leaving Rheon and Semi to sigh heavily.

“No that’s not what he- Never mind that, Wakatoshi, what were you doing with that girl then?” Semi, who was supposedly strongly against asking, pried.

“I was supposed to tutor her.”

“Tutor her? Since when were you a tutor?” Rheon asks.

“Tendou suggested I find a hobby. I was asked by my teacher and I accepted.” Tendou’s actions flip from cackling like hyena to sighing in an instant.

“Wakatoshi-kun, that wasn’t what I meant by finding a hobby. Besides, how did it go from tutoring her to basically carrying her down the hallway?” They waited for the stoic ace’s response.

“She hadn’t been sleeping well, so she had passed out during our session. I didn’t want to leave her there, so I took her back to her dorm.” Ushijima decided to omit the falling asleep on him bit. He doesn’t exactly know why, but most likely because if Tendou heard it he would never let him live it down. Tendou hums, thinking it over.

“Yeah that seems like something Wakatoshi-kun would do. I believe it.” Semi gives Tendou a look of distaste.

“Does it matter whether you believe it or not?” Tendou scoffs.

“Of it does, Semi-Semi! We’ll need to combat these rumors, and my words are ones of truth! People will believe me if I’m the one to debunk it!” He says proudly, chest puffing up.

“You seem like the most untruthful person in this school. And I’ve told you before, stop calling me that.” Tendou hold his heart in mock pain.

“You wound me, Semi-Semi.”

“Leave the rumors as it is.” Their small skit is cut short by Ushijima’s voice, to which they look slightly taken aback.

“You’re just going to leave them be?” Rheon questions.

“There is no point. I know the truth and so does (Name)-san. Everyone else’s opinion is irrelevant.” Tendou laughs again.

“Do you think that’s how (Name)-chan feels?” The question leads Ushijima to pause. That was a good point. He hadn’t even considered how you might feel about it.

He reached a consensus at that moment. He needed to talk to you about how you wanted to handle this situation. It wasn’t fair to leave it up to chance as to whether or not you’re okay with this being spread. In the back of his mind he wonders why he’s doesn’t really mind if people think that.

“You’re right. I’ll have to talk to her.”

“Talk to who?” The new voice causes the third years to jump. Well, everyone except Ushijima, he just look over. It seems that presentation had finished, proof being that Goshiki had entered the changeroom. The others wouldn’t be far behind then.

Tendou composes himself quite quickly. “No one you kids have to worry yourselves with.” He waves him off, to which Goshiki nods, not wanting to pry into something his senpai said he didn’t have to.

As expected, the other first and second years came in suit, and began to change, falling into casual conversation with others. Ushijima however, only had one thing on his mind.

He needed to talk to you.

You stood outside the volleyball court with your hand on your heart, trying to stop its racing and build enough courage to enter. You knew he was in there, but the mortification and worse case scenarios of what could’ve happened during the day you weren’t in a correct state of mind was keeping you rooted to your spot.

You had to face him eventually. If you chickened out now, you’d only be prolonging your death sentence till tomorrow, because you had that session with him. You knew you couldn’t skip it as much as you wished you could, and you definitely didn’t have the balls to ask your teacher for someone else.

You had to face the music. You knew this. But you still couldn’t move.

Maybe meeting him tomorrow wasn’t such a bad idea. It would be him alone, instead of with his team, in a quiet secluded place where the likelihood of anyone hearing was slim. Plus, it would give you the time to build up any nerve you could possibly have left.

The pros definitely outweighed the cons. Any logical person would choose tomorrow. So, when you started to walk away, you pushed down the feeling of being a coward by claiming it was the smart decision.

But ultimately your plans were foiled the second you walked near that court.

“Oh hey! (Name)-chan!” You froze at the yell of your name, heart sinking to the pits of your stomach as you watch Tendou waving his arms like a maniac, jogging towards you like he’s trying to bring more attention to him. He must’ve seen you coming back from a water fountain or something.

You prayed that the earth would swallow you whole then and there. No such thing happened.

“A-ah, He-hello, Tendou-san.” You basically whisper, hoping that he gets the hint that you don’t want to be seen around here. If he does, he certainly doesn’t care.

“I don’t see you around here often. Are you looking for someone?” His voice turns teasing, mouth wide in a big grin and knowing eyes looking into your soul. You knew what his voice meant, and you turn bright red at the insinuation that you came to see Ushijima. While its true, the way he said it made it seem more… Suggestive.

“U-um… Well… I- uh…” You struggled to let anything out, his eyes so intense you could barely think straight.

“Tendou, I think you’re frightening her.” The deep voice that was once soothing, is making your heart combust as you see the man you most definitely not ready for.

Ushijima Wakatoshi, standing by the doors of the court, looking as calm and composed as ever. You were completely envious. You were having trouble not turning into a pile of mush.

“Wakatoshi-kun, just in time. (Name)-chan just said she needed to talk to you. I’ll leave you both be.” You gaped at the total lie the middle blocker just told, cheeks flushing even harder as you watched the tall red head literally skip his way back to the court. Leaving you in the worst situation possible. You didn’t have time to even curse the existence of the being that is Tendou Satori when Ushijima spoke up.

“You needed to speak to me, (Name)-san?” You whip your head towards Ushijima, immediately waving your hands to try and downgrade the lie of what Tendou just said. His face remains in its stoic neutral form as you attempt to get your thoughts out.

“No-not really! Well, I-I wanted to talk to you not needed to, I can see you’re busy with practice and everything, so I’ll just come back when you’re not as busy. O-or we can just talk about it tomorrow when our session-“

“That’s not necessary, I have time to speak to you now. Regardless, I needed to speak with you anyways.” Your rambling was cut short, and you looked up to him in surprise.

“With me?” He nods.

“Yes. Concerning the rumors and what you want to do about them.” Your eyes widen. Suddenly everything seemed to fit into place. The stares, the whispers, of course, there was a rumor. But what about?

You seriously needed to know if you wanted to keep your sanity.

You’re snapped out your thoughts by his voice. “By your facial expression I’ll assume you didn’t know about them.” Your silence confirms his assumption, and he continues.

“There have been people theorizing that you and I are a couple, due to what happened during the first session. People saw us walking in the hall when I was walking you to your dorm and began speculating. What I wanted to talk to you about is what you want to do about it. We can go to staff faculty if you desire-“ He’s cut off by your sudden movement, and actually quite surprised. You’d basically thrown yourself into a large bow.

“I’m so sorry! None of this would be happening if I had been more responsible! Now you’re in this terrible situation. I’m so, so sorry!” You stayed bowed for some time, hoping he would accept. You could imagine how infuriated he must’ve been. To not only be put of display for helping someone like you, a nobody with shit grades, to now being talked about behind his back about dating a said nobody.

It would totally ruin his reputation and social life.

“What are you apologizing for?” You crank your neck to look up at him, still remaining in a bow position. His head it tilted in confusion, which makes you even more confused.

“Why… Wouldn’t I apologize? To have the ace and captain of the volleyball team, one of the most popular people in school, be talked about dating someone like me, is total destruction of your character. And its completely my fault.” Your voice drops by the end of it, lowering to head to face the ground instead. You couldn’t look at him.

“My character to other students in this school is irrelevant to me. Even if I was dating someone like you, their opinion wouldn’t matter to me. Please raise, there’s no need to apologize.” You freeze, before slowly raising yourself, cheeks heated, and eyes averted as you notice him staring at you with such intensity. Unlike Tendou, it doesn’t really cause uncomfort.

It causes butterflies to flutter in your stomach.

“The only reason I wanted to talk to you, was because I wanted to see if these rumors bothered you. Only then would I do something about it. However, if you’re alright with them, I say leave it be. So, it’s really up to you.” You fidget as you try to figure out if you’re in a different reality. Was this actually happening?

You’d pinch yourself but you don’t want to look crazy.

“Wakatoshi-kun! The coach’s asking for you!” In the distance you hear Tendou’s voice, and both of you look towards the entrance.

“I’m sorry but it seems as though I’ll need to take my leave. I’ll give you time to think about what you want to do. You can tell me tomorrow during our session.” You can’t even form words as you nod, watching as he begins to walk to the court. He stops halfway there and looks back to you. Eyes seemingly piercing into your soul.

“Also, there would be no shame in dating you. You seem like a perfectly fine individual. You should have more confidence in yourself.” His words leave you speechless, face turning the brightest shade of red by far. He doesn’t notice as he continues walking.

You swear that man is the reason you’ll end up in the hospital one day.
