Vileplume is a mostly blue Pokemon that resembles a flower, most specifically a Rafflesia. It has a huge flower on its head with light red petals with white spots, and a core with orange outer walls, black inner walls, and a slightly brighter orange on the center. Also, it has red eyes. Vileplume literally looks like a fully grown Oddish. The whole line has very simple and straightforward designs and palettes, yet they're all very pleasing. The red and blue colors go really well together, and the orange core looks nice next to the red petals.
Shiny Vileplume, like its pre-evolutions, is mostly green now. Its petals are now a bright orange, while its core changes to have light orange outer walls, green inner walls, and an even brighter orange center. Also, Shiny Vileplume now has orange eyes. Usually I am not a fan of how orange and green look next to each other, but Shiny Vileplume pulls it off quite well. This palette really makes Vileplume look like an exotic yet dangerous plant. Truly a great shiny.
"The larger its petals, the more toxic pollen it contains. Its big head is heavy and hard to hold up. Flaps its broad flower petals to scatter its poisonous pollen. The flapping sound is very loud. Scatters allergy-causing pollen from its broad petals. The larger the petals, the more pollen is scattered." -- Pokemon RBYSt

Even though the new DLC for Pokémon Violet was available for a while, I wasn't able to get to Blueberry Academy due to some other stuff. Even after I arrived, my first few days there were a little sluggish...
Unova's been referenced a lot at this school... Even the battle music sounds familiar...
It's not like there's going to be new Pokémon games a year or so from now that take place within this country. That'd just be TOO much of a coincidence.
After the battle, Cyrano gave me a new Pokédex to use. And this might be even worse than the one before it.
I have to add ALL these starter Pokémon? That sounds like a nightmare! (If I didn't already have these Pokémon in my collection.)
DECEMBER 16TH
I made it to the first class. Not only is there Unova influence in this place, but there's also some Alola blood in it.
It feels bizarre hearing a greeting like that in a new game like this...
The assignment the teacher gave me only took a few seconds.
If only school was THIS easy... (I wanted to show him an Alolan Raichu. But I felt like the game wouldn't accept one.)
Yeah, I think the Coastal Biome is my personal favorite... Past here was the central plaza. I met some inventor who gave me the ability to control a Pokémon.
I can't say it's something I'll use all that much. I don't even know any opportunities where it would come in handy.
After using it on Miraidon, I got a glimpse of the new Kieran before sleeping for a big test.
These are, sadly, the thoughts I have about certain artists who refuse to live up to their full potential...
DECEMBER 17TH
After some more run-ins with the BB Elite Four, I was all set up to take them out.
Since he's the closest, Crispin's Club will be my first stop.
This might sound easy. But he's setting you up for a trap.
You need the Jalapeños, Mustard, and Chili Sauce. But to satisfy his tastebuds, you also need to get the Chorizo. Not only does this trial test your wisdom on sandwich making, but it also tests your brain. As someone who likes good mental exercise, this club really WAS up my alley!
There's NO WAY this guy would have a full team of Magmortar. Then again, there's that other person who has a whole collection of Bidoof. (And only Bidoof.)
Now that I've passed Crispin's trial, it was straight to the battlefield. You can see how that went down at the Web Stadium.
After I was done with the Fire Club, I was off to the Fairy Club to fight Lacey. Her trial involved quizzes about Pokémon. The final question was a tough one. But I managed to solve it after interrogating some club members.
For answering every question, I was rewarded with a battle.
But from what I've learned in life, cuteness is a sign of weakness.
I don't know what kind of battle she was in, but Lacey's into some weird stuff...
At least I have only two more Clubs to visit.
DECEMBER 18TH
Because of another big test I had to take, I only had enough time to fill out the Blueberry Pokédex. An effort that proved to be worth it.
Since I already have a Gloom, this one can become a Vileplume!
All I need to complete the set now is a Bellossom.
Good god does Gen I have a lot of Poison types. Like they are fucking everywhere on Kanto. Everything’s got a secondary Poison type for some reason.
Hey, what are the two strongest types in RGBY and FRLG? Psychic and Ground? Oh dear.
Anyway, today we’re tackling Oddish and its first two evolutions. Bellossom’s time will come, but not for a while. As a kid I fuckin’ hated these things, simply because my first game was Ruby and they they made Oddish both a relatively common Pokemon that can easily be found on Routes 110, 117, 119, 120, 121, and 123, but then it was also unreasonably common in the Safari Zone. Trying to find Heracross, Pikachu, Wobbuffet, Rhyhorn, etc? Nope, Oddish.
I’ve mellowed on it since, probably because my DS Lite and my GBA don’t work anymore so I haven’t played original Ruby in years, and ORAS is less annoying about it, but yeah, not huge on this line in general.
Still, let’s lead off with everyone’s favourite walking marijuana plant, Oddish itself.
Well, it’s green. However, these are decent shades of green, and it is a plant, so I don’t hate it in this context. As a whole, this is a pretty good shiny colour scheme, and I will give it the nod for that. Shiny wins.
Next up, Gloom.
Aaaaand we’re right back to normal. The green’s not awful, but it is worse than previously, and the flower looks wilted and dead. I’d give them points for that if it was intentional, as this is based on a flower that smells like rotting flesh, but I know it wasn’t intentional so I’m just going to award this one to the default.
And finally for today, Vileplume, the poor man’s Venusaur.
This is marginally better, with a more vibrant orange on the flower and a brighter green on the body, but still not amazing. I’m giving it to the default again.
We’ll have to see next gen whether Bellossom can claw one back for the shinies, and be a fitting final form for Oddish, but, uh, spoiler alert... it probably won’t.
