The 12th Angel makes contact with the mind of Shinji Ikari
Leliel: Will you spend your life regurgitating and re-digesting those few pleasant memories?
Shinji: If I trust their words, it’s enough to keep me alive.
Leliel: Even though you’re deceiving yourself?
Shinji: Everybody does it! That’s how everyone survives.
Leliel: If you will not believe that you can change yourself, you will be unable to continue.
Shinji: This world is filled with too much pain and suffering to keep going.
Leliel: For example, you can’t swim?
Shinji: Humans aren’t made to float!
Leliel: That’s self-deception.
Shinji: I don’t care what you want to call it!
Leliel: You’ve been shutting your eyes to that which you wished to avoid.
Shinji: No, I don’t want to hear this!
Leliel: See? You’re running from reality again. No one can justify life by linking happy moments into a rosary. In particular, I cannot.
Shinji: I’ve found something I can do to feel good. Something I want to do! What’s wrong with that?!
