Reading Jake was still difficult for Shiloh, as she was still getting to know him and he was always managing to surprise her, be it with the unexpected wealthy background that he’d failed to bring up, or the fact that he was much more in tune with nature than she ever would have guessed. It was for that reason that she was never sure where her comments would land with him, and getting sassy with him was a bit of a gamble. Without taking the time to weigh her odds this time, however, her remark had sort of just rolled off of her tongue, a grin on her face that made the dimples in her cheeks show.

Of course, Shiloh wasn’t one to be making fun of anyone for their sizes, being that she was only five feet tall and she weighed about one-hundred pounds while soaking wet, but when next to Felix, just about everyone looked comically tiny. Much to her relief, Jake had taken the comment with a grain of salt and had even laughed about it, the smile on his face pulling her own wider. She liked seeing him smile, as it was a rare sight compared to the others in the new group that she’d suddenly found herself thrown into.

A laugh snorted out of the tiny brunette after he’d told her to ‘shut up,’ her footsteps carrying her over to the wall to lean against it. “If it makes you feel any better, I’ve never been the bigger person when it comes to Felix. Not metaphorically or physically,” she chuckled, gesturing to her small frame with a motion of her hands. “He’s always under my skin in one way or another. He’s like a little kid though. He just does this shit because he likes the attention. He wants to get a rise out of you just to see if he can.” She rolled her eyes, still grinning. “What a pain in the fucking ass.”

Shiloh had only known Felix for a few months, but already she could peg him for fitting perfectly into that category. He was wild and unpredictable, and immature in so many ways, and nobody could deny how ridiculously childish he could be sometimes. As annoying as it could be at times though, it was also part of his charm.

It was the first day of survival in the cannibal-infested forest, and so far Shiloh hadn't been able to find her place in the group in terms of usefulness. She wasn’t the strongest, nor the fastest, nor the smartest, and that didn’t leave too many options open for her. It wasn't as though she was incapable of being helpful though, but rather that she was out of her element and needed some guidance in the right direction to find where she could fit best. First impressions were still being made, but she'd been able to tell rather quickly that Jake knew what he was doing, and she hoped that by observing him, she would be able to learn a few things. How he had the skills that he had, she didn't know, but it was clear that he had some sort of extensive knowledge on living so minimalistic, judging by how quickly he'd began to set up the necessary preparations for their survival. While Bellamy had taken to guiding Felix on building the foundation for a shelter, Shiloh had found herself off towards the edge of the clearing with Jake, collecting sticks and various other materials to craft themselves some torches. With night looming in the near hour and the temperature dropping, they would need light and warmth. Her initial instinct had been to simply light a stick on fire, but she was glad that she hadn't attempted it or said the thought out loud, because it seemed that there were more steps involved in doing it properly, such as wrapping the end in fabric first. That made sense, she supposed.

In a struggle to snap off a small branch from the handle of her torch, Shiloh had accidentally smacked Jake across his arm with the long stick, just after he'd lit his. Her eyes grew wide for a moment and then she reached over, patting him on the arm. "Sorry. You were on fire." She lied, clearing her throat. "You're not anymore." A sad lie, and a very obvious one, but a humorous attempt at an apology no less.

Christmas Love

Pairing: Tom Hiddleston x Reader

Chapter: 3/4

Prompt: It is Christmas Eve and you are at your friend’s celebrating and exchange gifts. You just got out of a relationship and surrounded my couples. Tom Hiddleston is your best friend and long standing crush that you have come to terms with that you will never have. The night isn’t as great as you thought it would be, but then you get an unexpected visitor.

Warning: Low self-esteem, unsupportive friends

Part One Part Two

“Jake,” (Y/N) fights out. “I need to get back together with Jake.”

The words roll through Tom’s mind as he tosses and turns in his bed. Outside his room he can hear the faintest sounds coming from the tv. After calming (Y/N) down, Tom convinced her to stay at his place. He told her that he was worried about her being alone, and really needs to sort things out. But he also knew that if (Y/N) was truly serious earlier, he would see (Y/N) less and less until they became perfect strangers.

“I’m sorry I just don’t get why you are still with the guy.” Tom presses. “I get that you’ve known him forever, but I think-“

“What is so wrong with Jake?” (Y/N) huffs crossing her arms while leaning back against Tom’s couch. ”He is really sweet.”

Tom positions his body closer to (Y/N). She doesn’t move away, but doesn’t move at all. But Tom doesn’t either. Looking into (Y/N)’s shimmering (Y/E/C) orbs, Tom feels an overwhelming pinch of nerves dance through his stomach as his heart starts to race.

Glancing at her lips Tom thinks of all the times he so badly wanted to kiss her. Anytime (Y/N) would pout trying to playfully get her way. When her bubbly laughter escapes passed with the biggest smile that brightens Tom’s whole day. Any moment of any day he has wanted to kiss her.

Almost consumed by his pent-up emotions. Tom manages to back away. Settling at a safer distance, Tom clears his throat before continuing.

“I just think you deserve more.”

Maddened by the memory, Tom throws his covers off his body and heads for the door. Looking over at the couch he finds it empty except for the chaos of blankets. Suddenly a lump forms in Tom’s throat, did she leave without saying goodbye?

Trudging into the kitchen Tom freezes at the sight of (Y/N) in front of him. Finally exhaling the breath he didn’t know he was holding, Tom fights to keep his composure.

(Y/N) hasn’t noticed his presence yet. Walking over to the sink next to her, Tom tries not to startle her. But once next to her small frame, Tom finally hears the sniffles coming from (Y/N). Engulfing her in his arms, (Y/N) crumbles into his chest. They stay like this till (Y/N) calms down enough and removes herself from Tom’s arms.

“Jake is coming to get me at about noon tomorrow so we can talk.” Her voice grows tighter with each uttered word.

“Jesus, you were serious?” Tom’s composure begins to fade as anger settles in. “(Y/N) he cheated on you! I don’t care what his reasons are. I don’t care that he felt neglected or second best. He should have talked to you instead of fuck someone else!”

“Shut up!” (Y/N) screams before quieting down. “You have no idea what is going on!”

“Well, it looks like you’re trying to get back with a guy what you don’t love. I know the only reason you are doing it is because your friends prefer him.” Tom watches tears stream down (Y/N)’s cheeks like silent waterfalls. The last thing Tom wants is to upset her but she has to know.

“(Y/N) I’m sorry for yelling.” Tom takes (Y/N)’s hands gently in his and looks down at them. “I just want you to be with someone deserving of you. Someone that makes you happy.”

Heavy silence falls in the kitchen. Tom’s gaze remains on (Y/N)’s hands. Rubbing circles against her skin Tom attempts to memorize the pattern of it, the length of each finger, that (Y/N) loves her nails painted the shade of red they are now.

“Jake is not a bad guy, Tom.” Her voice shakes. “Maybe he’s the one for me, maybe not. But he is the only guy I know willing to try.”

Her words sting against every cell in Tom’s body. He can sense that the conversation is over and has to do something. If he doesn’t Tom could lose her, and Tom knows he wouldn’t survive that.

(Y/N) starts to take a step away from Tom. One hand slips from his grasp. Panic sends Tom’s brain into slow mode as he tries to comprehend. As her last hand makes its way out from his, Tom wakes up.

Reaching for her hand, his skin meets hers and gives her arm a soft pull towards him. Stumbling into him, Tom can see the shock and confusion displayed by (Y/N)’s wide eyes and knitted brows. Not wasting another moment Tom crashes his lips to (Y/N)’s.

Responding, Tom feels (Y/N)’s slightly chapped lips dance with his. Tom’s hands gently cup the sides of (Y/N)’s face. Feeling her arms loop around his waist, he is pulled closer to her body. But as soon as the kiss starts, it is over. (Y/N) pulls away but stands firm in place. Catching his breath, Tom tries to figure out what happened.

Dazed but slowly coming to, Tom feels (Y/N) lean her head against his chest. Something wet glosses over a part of his skin. Realizing they are (Y/N)’s tears, Tom wraps his arms around her once more.

“I know you’re overwhelmed.” Tom whispers sweetly. “But I couldn’t wait any longer. And I didn’t want you leaving before you knew how I care for you.”

(Y/N)’s POV

The events of tonight are a whirlwind in your mind as you lay on the sofa in Tom’s apartment. You can still feel the touch of his lips on yours, and you can’t help but smile. Without realizing it fully, you have been waiting for that moment for years and it was everything you imagined.

A dark solid pit takes place in your stomach, killing any butterflies you have. I have to see Jake tomorrow. Jake is who almost everyone wants you to be with. Almost. You groan at the situation and wished it was more simple.

You look at your phone for the billionth time that day. Shiloh is in the dressing room trying to find a new outfit for tonight’s party. A party that you have no desire to go to, but being forced to appear anyway. If it wasn’t for your friends and boyfriend, you would never go to parties. Sometimes you wonder if that is exactly what you want. Though, it doesn’t look like you’ll get the chance to find out.

“Are you sure you don’t want to try on anything?” Shiloh emerges from the dressing room in the tightest red top you have ever seen. “I think Jake would just die of happiness seeing you in that black cocktail dress out there.”

“I’m fine.” You insist. “I have clothes at home from other parties.”

The same argument has been on replay since getting to the mall two hours ago. Every time there is a new party you always end up here for any of the girls, mostly Shiloh. You already know what you are going to wear, a short black romper that Jake picked out for you months ago that has quite the neckline.

The music is booming all through the house. You wouldn’t mind if it was music you actually enjoyed, but your music is never played at these gatherings. Rap is not your style but it of course has to be everyone else’s.

Peering over the crowd you look for Jake. Normally he is with Josh around the drinks in the kitchen. Jake is notorious for drinking way too much at a party, at every party.

Finding him exactly where you thought, you feel a buzz coming from your small bag. Thinking it was a text you let it go but it continues to vibrate. Excusing yourself to the side, you look to see who is calling you. Tom.

“Hello?” You answer while trying to make an escape to outside.

“Darling!” Tom’s excited voice filters through your ears. “Where are you? It is really loud.”

“Just another party everyone dragged me to.” You huff, imagining what you could be doing right now besides being there. You could be reading, watching a movie, sleeping, or talking to Tom without being worried people will hear.

You know none of your friends particularly like Tom. The only reason why is because they think he is a threat to your relationship with Jake. You think they need to mind their own business. Tom is your best friend in the whole world, and you wouldn’t do anything to hurt Jake but you’re not a mind reader. If something is bothering him, he needs to come and talk to you and not everyone else.

“So, what’s up? Why’d you call?” Your curiosity gets the best of you.

“I just missed you and wanted to hear your voice.” Tom says, and you can’t help but feel weightless. Tom could literally choose anyone to have in his life and for some strange reason he chose you. You’re definitely not complaining, in fact you are more than grateful.

Remembering that night, you also remember Jake getting really drunk and insecure about Tom being in your life. Jake has asked for you not to mention Tom while he is around, and you have been doing a great job. Though not long after, Jake asked if there was anything you were hiding about your friendship with Tom. Paranoid that things are happening behind closed doors that you are not mentioning.

Here’s one of my shots of Angelina Jolie from The Los Angeles Premiere of 'Paper And Glue: A JR Project’ at the Museum of Tolerance. Surprised isn’t the word much closer to shock or amazed came to mind. I say that because there were multiple big events happening all at once all over town. This was a small affair with 8 photographers and a video crew. It was a chill atmosphere and nearing the end red carpet was in sight. Then Angelina appeared out of nowhere. Apparently, she knows RJ and immediately there was exchange of affection between the two. Angelina had Pax and Shiloh in tow. It was a family thing where she was supporting RJ’s documentary. The energy rose considerably and the photo fever last for 15 minutes as people posed and reconfigured poses. Here are a couple of my shots of legendary Alan Alda at the Netflix's "Marriage Story" Los Angeles Premiere held at DGA Theatre. The latter is Alan with Jake Alda and Arlene Alda. It was a joy and surprise to see Alan that night for Marriage Story. He doesn’t make many appearances. I watch M*A*S*H as a teenager and young adult. It was beyond huge in those days. Hawkeye was a vivid and powerful character to play and his character resonated with the whole country. Today is Alan’s birthday. Alan is turning 85. Your friends pass presents around the room and you give your present to Frankie. Normally you and your girls do a more expensive and nicer version of white elephant. This year, all but you wanted to do Secret Santa. Though it isn’t very secret considering there is only four participating and two of them asked for help.

Everyone settles back into their spots and eagerly waits to see who gets to go first. Watching each of them snuggle into their boyfriend’s sides creates a cold void that skates across the center of your heart. You’re not with anyone at the moment. Jake, your now ex-boyfriend just broke-up with you a week ago. Still you have not told the group and you don’t plan on it. The last thing you want is to see their pitiful stares. Instead they think he is out of town on business.

“Oh (Y/N)! I forgot yours at home.” Jordan exclaims. “I’ll give it to you next time or drop it off sometime.”

You shrug and tell her that it is okay. This usually happens, you’re not sure why you let yourself get even the slightest bit excited. Sam apparently still has your birthday present from last year to give you. You have spent time over at her house, she has come over, and met up for dinner countless times but you still have not received it. The majority of the time when you try to make plans about half of the group promises to be there and then barely half of that shows up, not letting you know till an hour before.

Though you really should give Sam props for remembering your birthday. Once you all hit high school you stopped celebrating your birthday, of course with the exception of a very small family dinner. Growing up, your friends would always get into a fight during your parties and you had to spend the whole time trying to get them in the same room. After a while you got tired of it and haven’t celebrated a birthday up until a year or two ago.

Ring ring……. Ring ring……. Ring ring

Sneaking a glimpse at your phone you see Tom’s name pop-up on your phone. Instantly a smile smears across your face. Tom has become your best friend over the last few years and you have developed the biggest crush on him. He has always been there for you, and even got you to celebrate your birthday again. Accepting the call you excuse yourself to the kitchen and say hello.

“How’s the party going, love?” Tom’s smooth British accent sends butterflies to your stomach. “Did Frankie like her gift?”

“Yeah she loved it,” you try to keep the smile pressed to your face. “They are actually in the living room opening right now.”

Hearing a knock at the door you tell the girls that you will get it. On the way to the front of the house Tom’s words are drowned out by the noise coming from the living room. All you can think about is what you will say if Tom asks what you got from Jordan. He can always tell when you’re lying which is infuriating at times.

“Hey Tom I’m getting the door hold-“ Opening the door, you stop mid-sentence.

“Hello, love.” Tom leans against the door frame as he ends your call. “Wanted to surprise you. Merry Christmas.”

Without thinking your arms wrap around his neck and you pull your head against his chest. Instantly Tom’s arms mold around you developing a screen of security. Feeling tears well-up in your eyes you try to suppress them, you didn’t realize how much you missed him. Tom has been on sight the last month and you did not know when he would be back.

“If I knew you would be this excited to see me then I should disappear more often.” Tom teases.

“Don’t you dare,” you try to smile and smack his arm. “Come on in, you must be starving.”

Taking his hand in yours, you sneak him to the kitchen were the remaining food sits on the surrounding counters. Making a plate you pile it with roast, potatoes, greens, and peppers. Turning to give it to Tom you see his eyes widen at the mountain before him. Trying not to laugh you nod toward the nook table in the corner as you grab two classes of wine.

Joining him you ask about how work has been. As normal Tom doesn’t have a single bad thing to say about anyone or any situation. You wish you had that same sense of optimism as him. On average you try to be an upbeat person, but sometimes it seems to come easier to Tom. A serious trait that you envy.

“So how was Secret Santa?” Tom takes a sip of wine. “What did you get?”

“They all seemed to be having fun.” Your eyes watch your wine swirl around the glass. “They’re all still in the living room.”

Tom gives you a look showing he knows you’re avoiding his question. Trying to change the subject you go ahead and explain why Jake isn’t here. Tom’s thumb traces over your skin while listening intently. You’d have to tell him at some point, and maybe he will think this is the only thing bothering you.

Jake broke up with you because he met someone else. You apparently were not doing enough to keep him entertained and he was able to find someone that could. The rational side of you says that he is a pig and that you deserve better. Though the rest makes you question if you were enough and if you would ever be enough for anyone else.

“Oh love.” Tom caresses the side of your face and places a stray hair behind you ear. Slightly leaning into his touch, Tom does not back away but reinforces your exchange by moving closer.

“Shiloh I swear you’re like a bottomless pit!” Jordan laughs coming into the kitchen behind her.

They both stop once they see you with Tom. They didn’t expect to see him tonight. In all fairness you didn’t expect to see him here either. They all exchange pleasantries and the girls tell him about how the night has been going. Tom asks each what they got, sweetly pretending he didn’t already know of which sends a small smile to your lips.

“Those all sound lovely.” Tom’s gaze directs to you when he says “lovely,” sending heat to your cheeks. “And what did you get (Y/N)?”

“Oh she doesn’t know yet!” Jordan chimes in. “I forgot it at home.”

Averting your eyes to the table you take a sip of your wine trying to act like you don’t care. You feel Tom’s foot brush up against yours and stay there as you try to think of what to do. Just before Tom could speak you ask the girls if they are ready to go ice skating yet. They both excitedly agree it is time and go to tell the others leaving you with Tom alone once more.

“(Y/N)-“

“No, Tom. I’m okay.” You immediately interrupt him. Taking his almost empty plate you head towards the trash to dump the rest before heading to the sink. Shiloh said you could just leave your dishes in there for her to wash later but you need a distraction. Taking the soap out from under the sink you start to clean Tom’s plate.

“You’re such a bad liar.” Tom comes up behind you and gently nudges your body to face his. “You can maybe fool them, but this is me. I know you too well.”

Tom puts his hands on each side of you, the sink against your back. His eyes pour into yours with anything but pity like you expected. Instead his gaze holds warm, pain, sadness, and maybe something unreadable. Tom’s body slowly moves closer to yours, afraid if he moves too fast it may scare you.

Not a single inch of Tom’s body is touching yours, but somehow you feel consumed by his presence. The air in the room around you becomes thick on your skin as the rest of the world disappears. You can hear your heart beating in your chest as it tries to propel you closer to Tom. Air locks in your lungs as you forget how to breathe but somehow just soaking him in is enough to keep you alive. Finally the fear starts to set into your nerves and you feel your legs want to give out from beneath you.

“(Y/N), I-“

“Come on slow pokes!” Shiloh jumps into the room breaking Tom away from you. “Oh am I interrupting?”

“Interrupting (Y/N)?” Frankie chimes in. “As if anything would happen to interrupt.”

The girls join in on a playful laugh that you try to mimic but still a little dazed. What the hell was that? You thought. To your knowledge you never saw Tom look at you the way he just did a few moments ago. Your mind wants to wander to thoughts of what could happen if you two were not interrupted. Knowing better, you shake your head trying to expel the desire from you as you grab your coat and head out the door into the cold winter night.

Christmas Love

Pairing: Tom Hiddleston x Reader

Chapter: 2/4

Warning: Low self-esteem, unsupportive friends

Lacing up the last bit of your skates, you make your way to the rink. Your whole life you have struggled with balance and it shows at this very moment. Stopping every few feet to keep from falling you finally meet were the ice and safe carpet meet. Taking a deep breath you look back at Tom helping a little girl lace up her skates and push off before he can start looking for you.

Attempting to move a few strides forward you begin to feel like you can do this, but then you feel a cool sting against your butt. Confusion and shock flush your features as you try and fail to get up on your own. Persistently you continue to position yourself to stand until you finally do.

“I think we finally found something you’re not good at.” Sam snickers. “It’s about time Mrs. Perfect.”

“Mrs. Perfect? Now you couldn’t be talking about (Y/N).” Tom strolls up cheerfully. “Have you tasted her cooking? Or heard her snort when she laughs too hard?”

Shooting him a look you can’t figure out his angle. You definitely know you are far from perfect and no one knows this better than Tom and your mother. All your life your friends have taunted you about being too perfect but confusingly they do the same when you make a mistake, no matter how small. After a while their jabs at you being ‘Mrs. Perfect’ made you strive to be. Their taunts about being perfect hurt less than them finding any little flaw they can and blowing it out of proportion. Though you have no idea why Tom is bringing this up. A pinching appears in your head from trying to figure it out.

Oh there is no way ‘Mrs. Perfect’ would ever do that. It would taint her flawlessness.

Oh no a 95% what happened? Guess you’re not as smart as we thought.

There is no way you know how I feel, your family is as perfect as you are. They say after you find out you have an older sister you never knew about, that your mom’s side of the family is in the middle of their own civil war, and your household dynamic has been completely out of order for months.

Stepping off the ice you rip the skates from your feet. One takes a bit longer than the other and you feel the frustration bubble within rising like bread. Still struggling you finally manage to get the skate off and you throw it across the hall to relieve some tension. Sniffling you strain back some tears as you breathe away the urge to rip your hair out.

“Why?” You ask hearing his footsteps. “You know all that crap about ‘Mrs. Perfect’ or ‘Mrs. Imperfect’ that is too confusing to figure out for me. I’m not sure if I should even be mad. I am mad, but- ugh!” Tears stream down your face. “See! So tell me why?”

“Honestly? Not entirely sure.” This rises a soft sad chuckle from you. “Why do we have to throw perfect and imperfect in the mix? Can’t you just be human? That means both, that means beautiful.”

At the world ‘beautiful’ a small sob escapes past your chapped lips. Never once could you recall anyone but your mom call you that and since she’s your mom she isn’t really allowed to say ugly. Tom doesn’t miss a beat and takes a seat next to you. His arm protectively wraps around you despite you shaking your head in protest. When you’re like this Tom knows you don’t really want to be alone. Being held makes it harder for you to put up those walls of yours and Tom wants you to soak in his words. Giving in you allow yourself to rest against Tom’s thin but warm frame.

Tom’s fingers stroke through your hair while producing soothing sounds in your ear. Closing your eyes you imagine that you are at home or Tom’s apartment. He is keeping you warm after you deny his earlier offer of a blanket. You’ve always declined his offer thinking you’d be fine, but every time you’re proven wrong.

“I’m sorry tonight is not going very well,” Tom pulls back to look into your eyes. “And I am sorry that I caused some of this headache.”

“Apology accepted.” You fight a tight grin. “But for the record you’re the best part of tonight.”

“Dude.” Josh, Sam’s boyfriend pops out of nowhere with a big grin. “(Y/N) the girls are looking for you. Wanting to talk to you about something. They’re by the snack bar, go on ahead I’ll keep Tom company.”

Glancing over at Tom you find that both of you are waiting for the other to nod an ‘okay.’ You nod first and Tom follows suit. Getting up you make your way towards the girls but before rounding a corner you sneak a look at Tom and find his eyebrows knitted together. Josh is quietly conversing with Tom and you can’t help but wonder what it is about.

Despite your curiosity you wander over to where the girls are at. Upon arrival you hear several shushes coming from their lips once they noticed you are near. Slowing your pace you cautiously close the gap between you and the rest of the girls.

“What’s up guys?” Glancing around the group you notice their eyes shifting across each other waiting for someone to speak.

“We don’t think – I mean umm.” Frankie glances at Sam.

“Tom isn’t good for you,” Sam blurts out. “We think Jake has a problem with him being in your life, and I gotta say that we agree.”

The girls go in to explain that every time Tom gets back into town from shooting you are stuck to his side for the first few days. Though it’s not just you, it’s what Tom does as well. Tom shows up out of the blue, like tonight, and surprises you like a boyfriend would. How they feel threatened cause you spend more time with him and tell him more about your life.

“You guys, Tom is my best friend. Once upon a time you guys used to surprise me at work for lunch like he does. There is nothing he does that crosses a line.”

“What about what we walked into at the house, in the kitchen?” Shiloh points between her and Jordan. “He seemed offlay comfy being that close and so did you in fact. Lucky Jake isn’t here, huh?”

Rubbing your fingers against your temples you try to sooth your returning headache. The reason you never tell them anything anymore is because they never listen. They even try to out beat you on best things or even worst things that have happened to them. Tom actually listens and tries to help, and you try to do that for him as well.

“Guys Jake and I aren’t together anymore. We broke up!” You raise your voice irritated. “Please stay out of my business unless you are really willing to be helpful. Thanks.”

“You know he doesn’t like you right?” Shiloh stands firm. “Tom can have anyone he wants. Why would he pick you?”

Storming off you don’t know where you are going but in the light of the situation, you don’t really care. The only thing you want is to get far away as possible. Though once you make it out to the parking lot frustration rumbles in your core as you remember that you did not drive here yourself. The only thing you can do to get away is to walk.

Tom’s voice is faint behind you. Wanting to wait for him, to run to him surges through you, but your feet propel your body forward. Everything is my fault! I’m the reason Jake left me, why no one likes me. Not even Tom.

Tom’s POV

Following her nod, Tom watches as (Y/N) heads toward her friends on the other side of the room. Tom’s desperately wants to follow her but he knows she can handle herself, and he knows his presence could make things worse. Tom knows the girls don’t like him, but he doesn’t care most of the time. He only cares if their jealousy pulls (Y/N) into the cold war.

“Hey, Tom I like you I really do.” Josh starts in. “But Jake and I have been buds since the sixth grade-“

“I’m sorry I must be missing something,” Tom defends himself. He stares down Josh hoping to read it on his face. “I believe your bud cheated on (Y/N).”

That is what (Y/N) told him back at the house. He couldn’t understand how one could do such a thing to someone as wonderful as (Y/N). Really to any one period, no one deserves feeling like they aren’t enough. Tom knows how rejected (Y/N) has felt growing up by people she considered family. He couldn’t imagine what was and is running through her mind from it happening.

“(Y/N) spends all her time with you. He felt lonely, left out. Jake knew that he would never mean as much to her as you do.”

Tom stands in place frozen in time. He had no idea that was what was going on. That he was the reason behind the break-up. Tom can’t say he wasn’t at least a little thrilled about them breaking up. (Y/N) was never her bright happy self around him, there was always something holding her back. Though (Y/N) always insisted that she was great and couldn’t be happier, and she has dated Jake the last few years. But he feels like he has to do something even if it may kill him.

From the corner of his eye, Tom sees (Y/N) run out leaving her perplexed friends spinning on their heels. Feeling the cool air race into his own lungs, Tom takes after her. Whatever the girls told her wasn’t good, he doesn’t have to know exactly what they said but he wants to be there for her.

“(Y/N)!! Please stop, let me help!”

Her body continues to run many paces ahead of him before eventually collapsing to the ground. She gasps for air trying to fill her lungs and Tom is tempted to do the same. Not until he gets to her though. Reaching (Y/N) is the only thing keeping him going, even as the cold air pierces his chest.

“Tom…” (Y/N) breaths seeing Tom fall to his knees in front of her.

Y/N’s POV

Everything would be so much easier if Jake didn’t break-up with me. You think of how your friends love him, your family likes him well enough, and you have to admit he is a pretty good guy. I didn’t give him enough attention.

“It is all my fault,” you repeat in a whisper.

��Tom’s arms engulf you as he pulls your body close to him. His soothing voice tickles your left ear as you feel his warm fingers trail through your hair. His hand stopping on your lower back, lingering a few seconds before circling back at the top.

“Tell me how to make this better.” Tom begs. “What can we do to make this all better?”

The only thing you can do to make things better is to do the one thing you do not want to do. Looking into Tom’s eyes you watch everything you want, everything that is possible skate across his eyes. A shutter escapes past your lips as you think about never getting to see them again. Though does it matter? Shiloh is right, he could never possibly care for me the way I care for him.

“Jake,” you choke on your own words. “I need to get back together with Jake.”
