Emily's Manor
Fox x Reader
Part 2 of 2
"Relax" he hushed softly and nodded behind him "I'll go first, you just stay close to me. Alright?"
You stared at the door and with a shaky hand, reached for it. The handle jangled as you turned it. Then you almost jumped out of your skin when a gloved hand covered yours
You nodded, squeezing your eyes shut.
Fox moved your hand from the handle, enveloping it entirely with his own then opened the door with his other hand.
With a loud eerie squeak, it swung out and bumped against the wall beside you. The steep staircase that lead down was dark and looked as if it was on it's last leg.
Fox quickly pulled out a torch and shined in within. Just at the end of the stairs was a dangling light chain.
You swallowed hard before nodding again
"Alright, I'm going to go first and turn on the light. You just wait until I come back, can you do that?" His brown gaze swept over your nervous form "I need you to tell me that you'll be okay for a few minutes without me"
"I'll be okay, b-but...be careful"
The commander before you smiled and gave you a swift nod before he turned and made his way down.
With each step, his footfall was pronounced with a creek that left you holding your breath. He never stopped, kept an easy pace until both his feet met the basement flooring. He quickly reached up and yanked the chain above him. The staircase and floor then flooded with light.
The room was large, with a few sections of wall that divided the otherwise large square space. As with many of the other rooms, there were tons of odds and ends - and crates.
Fox took a moment, shutting off his torch and looking around, before he ascended the stairs to return to you.
Upon doing so, he grasped your hand and lead you down the stairs.
"Not too creepy" Fox mused "Not sure 'bout those rooms over there though..."
"I guess we better just start looking" You sighed softly and went to walk away but only then did you realize he was still holding your hand.
"If I let go, will you stay where I can see you?" He asked softly
You glanced between his serious gaze and your hands, but nodded slowly
"I still don't know if this place is safe. Last thing I want, is you getting hurt" He confessed as he let go of you "Be careful with those crates too - could be anything in them"
"That doesn't make me feel any better" you complained quietly
Fox let you a breathy chuckle and shook his head
"Yeah, sorry"
"The sun set early!" She rushed out in a panic
The two of you quickly set to work, all the while staying nearby one another - just in case it wasn't safe. And it was going well...until Emily came rushing up to you.
"Supposed to," she added sadly "seems the day decided to end fast today - it is getting closer to Autumn and Winter..."
"What? We should have at least 45 more minutes"
You took a deep but frightful breath in
"Alright Emily, what are we looking at?"
"15 at best" she sniffled "I'm scared for you"
You smiled softly at her
"It's okay Emily, is Thorn doing okay?"
"Hm? Oh he was chasing a spider when I left him" she giggled "He walked into it's web and was freaking out that it was in his hair"
"Yeah, I don't envy that" You grimmaced
"Emily, can you stay for a minute? I want to check those rooms really quick" Fox nodded towards the rooms on the far end of the basement
"Okay"
You then continued to rummage in the crates
Fox glanced at you then turned and headed to investigate.
"Was it a necklace?" you asked as you held up a small locket
"..." Emily stared at it closely then shook her head with a sigh "I feel like it's similar to this though..."
"Okay, okay" your mind started rushing around for answers "I can work with that"
"Oop! Thorn's calling!" Emily floated up until she disappeared in the celing
A few minutes later Fox returned
"Where's Emily...?"
You blinked, sticking your head out of the crate you were searching
"Oh, Thorn called her"
The commander huffed but stood beside you
"Still nothing?"
"No...How were the rooms?"
"Creepy. Nothing that seemed dangerous" he folded his arms across his chest "But you're the creepy expert, wanna take a peek?"
You stood up and clapping your hands back and forth to rid them of dust
"Yeah. Oh, Emily said it was similar to this locket" You drooped said item in his palm and started creeping towards the rooms
"Weird" he confirmed as he followed shortly behind
"Is that a kriffing magic circle?" You gawked
The first room was an old food storage, as defineable by the ancient jars and boxes still sitting in it. The second room however...
"I don't know...it's not some fun design?" Fox asked with a raised brow
"Did you go in here?"
"Yeah, nothing of note that was harmful"
You grumbled, tiptoing around the design
"I am so not touching that shit" you huffed "People were doing weird shit in here and it probably wasn't good."
You glanced as the words crawling around it
"But...there's a loose tile"
You squatted and pulled the middle tile away with some effort, then screeched and dropped it upon seeing the bugs and bones.
"Great. Now we have a murder..." Fox groaned "This place is definitely the most fucked up place I've ever been."
You yelled for Emily and just as she floated down into the room, a loud banging noise echoed across the house.
"We're out of time" Emily shook but as she turned to look at you lit up "HEY YOU FOUND ME!"
"The kriff was that?!" Fox shouted grabbing his pistol
"Wh-...what...?!" You squeaked
"And my key!!" She beamed leaning down and shooing the bugs away
"A key" Fox gawked "That's what we were looking for?"
You gingerly, feeling your stomach churn, reached past the piled bones and grasped metal.
A little golden key on a chain
"Mhm! Thorn found the lock too!" She giggled clapping her hands "Oh! But we're out of time! So you'll have to be careful. The darkness hasn't come into the house yet...but it's trying really hard...!"
"Where is Thorn?"
"Attic! With the lock!"
"Joy..."
You stood up and took a deep breath
"Okay Emily, let's end this"
"Oh...I guess I have to stay here" she mumbled sadly "Please be careful! Don't let the darkness touch you or swallow you up! You'll be gone forever...!"
She nodded with a bright smile.
But upon you all trying to leave the room, Emily was stuck within the room
"That's great" Fox grouched as he made a beeline to the stairs
"I promise we'll get you out-"
"You have to hurry! It's working through the locks!!"
"New plan, You run to Thorn, I'll follow" Fox quickly shoved you up the first few stairs and turned towards the door grabbing his pistols "These better do something"
You turned and rushed to catch up to Fox. The two of you made it back to the ground floor to see there was only 2 locks left holding the door
"You get your ass up those stairs and to my brother, right now." he barked back to you "I told you, I'll be right behind you and I mean it"
"No way, I'm not just leaving you"
You glanced between him and the top of the stairs
"If you're waiting for anything else, you're wasting our time" He growled shooting you a glare
"B-but-"
His shout lit a fire under you and you scrambled up to the second story landing
"Mesh'la, we do not have time, get moving. NOW!"
"Right behind me, right?"
Fox cursed under his breath then shot you another scary glare.
Just as you turned away to run, you saw his head snap towards the door and a loud 'clink' echo.
There was only 1 lock left
"THORN!" You rushed inside, pausing only a moment to find where he was
You ran with all your might, tripping as you went up the shakey stairs and smashed open the attic door
"OVER HERE!" the Blonde rushed over to you and pushed you towards the small locked door "Where's Fox?!"
"H-he-"
"I'll go get him" Thorn rushed out pointing at the door "Get that kriff open and quick" He yelled as he ran out and down the stairs
With trembling hands you fumbled the key twice. Before it got into the lock.
You could hear shouting and blasting, whatever it was, was inside.
You couldn't breathe, your eyes burned and your vision was getting blurry. You were so scared. You yanked open the small door and crawled half way inside.
It was dark, and stank something putrid. But with a sudden pulsing glow, you saw the item. It must have been what Emily had hid from the thing - the darkness monster.
You panted and gasped for air, your head was spinning, you felt incredibly cold yet you could easily recognize the sweat trickling down your spine. You missed thrice before your blurry, double vision allowed you to take hold of the item.
Then.
Clarity
You yanked yourself out and to your feet.
You knew.
You spun on your heel and sprinted to the door, where Fox and Thorn were backing up into.
You KNEW what it wanted.
"Wh-" "What are y-"
You reached around them, as you held up the item. Beyond them was a pool of pitch black void, but upon you holding the item up it slunk back in a circle around the door's opening.
"Is it afraid of THAT?!"
"I dont care what it thinks, it's backing off"
You glared at it, the darkness, and ripped the torch off Thorn's belt. You held it up behind the crystal and turned it on.
The light filtered through the dark crystal and cast a beam of emerald green light.
The monster shrieked and backed away more
"TAKE THAT YOU SON OF A BITCH!" You screamed, startling both men beside you. You squirmed past them both and took a step towards the darkness.
"This is the most fucked up shit- I swear to all the go-"
Every step you took, it shrieked and with a hiss got smaller
Fox pushed past his brother, quick to follow you.
"What can I do?"
"Make sure I don't fall or drop this, I guess" you then turned the beam to catch a section of the dark puddle that tried to flank you both to get Thorn "GET OUT OF MY HOUSE"
You chased and burned the monster as it slunk back towards the stairs and then down them. But as you chased it, you felt the crystal in your hand begin to get warm and burn your skin. The sensation trailing down your hands to your wrist.
"Kriff, give that thing to me"
"Not a chance" you huffed as you combated the black ichor "I listened to you, now you listen to me"
Fox let out a bark of a laugh in disbeleif
"Are you seriously mad at me right now?!"
"I am!" you shouted
It growled and lunged at you, grabbing onto your anckles and swiftly causing you to collide with the floor. You had dropped the torch and it quickly consumed it. Your feet entirely lost to the void, you screamed holding the crystal up
By the time you and the monster were both on the ground floor you'd reduced it to a mere 10 ft puddle of gross.
"Light, light it!" you screamed in panic
Fox grabbed his torch and shone it through the crystal into the area your feet should have been.
The darkness hissed as it burned away, leaving your now bare feet with black scrawling designs that steamed and burned you.
Fox snatched the crystal from your hand and holding the torch to it, brought the monster down to a small angry circle on the floor. With a loud angry shout, he rammed the crystal and torch into it.
The room flooded in bright light.
You opened your eyes to meet brown ones. You blinked in confusion.
"...Fox...?"
"Hey, careful" He hushed pulling you closer to him "Medic just finished with you."
You glanced to your right to see your hand all bundled in bandages.
Your brows creased in confusion.
Medic?
"Where's Thorn...?"
"He's fine, he's handling this bullshit for me." Fox explained softly "You scared the shit out of me"
You let out a breathy giggle and tried to sit up - but his hold on you was tight
"But I didn't, thankfully e-" your eyes widened "Emily! We have to-"
"I mean it. I thought we were going to die - then you...I thought you were going to die"
"She's gone," he gave you a sad smile "I'm sorry you weren't able to say goodbye. Thorn said she wasn't there when he took the team down to her. They're going to move her remains somewhere better."
You nodded sadly
"Can I pick a spot?" You asked in an unsure whisper
"You know, something tells me that she'd love that" He smiled down at you "How you feeling?"
"Like a bantha trampled me"
Fox chuckled and delicately scooped you up into his arms
"Then I guess I'll be carrying you around for a bit" he beamed, although before you could protest... "and no, it is not a bother"
You promptly closed you mouth and wrapped your arms around his shoulders.
"So...what do you think of painting it Blue...?" you asked gently
The commander carried you outside where you picked a spot in the garden for Emily's remains to stay, somewhere you could easily see and was beautiful. Then, once she was properly put to rest, Fox carried you back to the manor.
Fox immeadiately scoffed
"We aren't keeping it"
"Oh, we...? I wasn't aware there was a we" you sneered playfully
Fox quickly looked away
"I only meant-"
"I dunno...I kinda like this place" you continued quickly "You know, I totally saved this complete dream boat just last night"
"Oh did you? I remember it a bit different" he teased
There were 2 entire heart beats of silence before a knowing grin spread across that beautiful face of his
"Oh, of course, you do...!" You laughed
"You were out cold, you missed the ending entirely" he defended humourously
You let out a soft giggle and kissed his cheek
"I guess I could suffer a we...if it included you and me that is" you shyly met his content and tender gaze
"Only if you get rid of this nightmare house" he taunted
You scoffed loudly
"BUT THIS IS WHERE WE CONFESSED OUR LOVE" you yelled loudly and dramatically, gaining quite the audience
"H-hey...!" Fox stumbled his cheeks darkening "Not so loud..."
You craned your neck to see Thorn with a bright grin
"I KNEW IT!"
"So, when can I move in? My room at the GAR just became inhospitable"
"I SO CALLED IT!" He cheered in victory
Fox huffed grumpily and rolled his eyes
You let out a bright, loud laugh
"How 'bout tonight? You busy?"
"As a matter of fact...my schedule just opened up, I can totally do this evening." he chuckled "I want the front door red though"
"Deal"
