It's long, but the suspense, mutual pining, and fine line between fact and fiction keeps you engaged the whole time! I will warn you, it's heavy because of the way it approaches social hierarchy, but I think the author does it very eloquently! I still remember staying up super late reading this lol. I will admit I almost cried :')

Pretty Lies by @lonelywhalien22 -- Inspired by (pop/punk) rock music, especially Black Eye, OP does an amazing job capturing the edginess of this genre in this fic!! I've re-read it several times lol. Haven't quite seen Vernon's character be captured in a more stoic/colder persona, but it was done tastefully :) and the character development is just 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻

work husband by @wondernus -- THERE'S A REASON THIS HAS 3k+ NOTES!!! Okay, I am not usually a fluff reader, so this took me by surprise, but this has to be my absolute favorite Vernon fic ever 😫 It's about two teachers who act like a couple, but won't own up to it. The relationship development is slow and frustrating af, but has me kicking and squealing like a teenager getting her first signed 1D poster in 2014 😭🤧😂 The side characters are also amazing!!! Nu has a way with words that is so poetic too - like, this is who I wanna be when I grow up!!! I could go on forever about this, but if there is one you HAVE to read for Vernon, it's definitely this one.

The Times We Couldn't Say Goodbye by @husbandhoshi -- I really loved this one because in a sense, it captures all stages of what it means to fall in and out of(?) love (/how sometimes as much as you love someone life is a bitch and just doesn't work out at all)? There's the twist of this being a fantasy story, with Soonyoung being a wizard. It's amazing how the author captures their relationship just ~2k words, but she does and leaves you feeling like a gutted fish flopping on a dock in the best way possible :)

In Pursuit of Wedding Bliss by @fantasyescapes17 -- This whole series is incredibly well-written! It's a regency!au centered around social season, where some of the members come to London to meet and find spouses. Each member has their own arc/series, but the way they're interwoven into each others' stories is so clever!!! That said, would recommend reading all of it, bc if you miss one members' story, it might be hard to understand the others. My personal favorite was Jeonghan's - I have read many good Jeonghan fanfics before, but this was just a whole 'nother level of in love LOL. It really captures his flirtatious/devious ways, but also his genuine and caring nature! The main oc is also really refreshing bc she's confident and knows what she wants without being **too** out there, which is nice for this era where most girls are portrayed as one or the other. That said, Mingyu's and Hoshi's were also really good! Just read the whole thing! LOL.

I'll stop here before I bore y'all with my commentary 😅🥲 In general, I share my faves on #twogyuu:recs if you're interested in seeing more! I read for SVT, NCT, and occasionally, TBZ. There might be some BTS fics on there from my early silent reader days, but not so much anymore.

1. Are you named after anyone?

Not that I know of, although my parents wanted it to be bit of an uncommon name. Fast forward to elementary school, there was girl in my class with the same name. Fast forward to now, turns out it’s a pretty darn popular name in a different part of the country. Oh well...

2. When was the last time you cried? 

Oh boy...Uhm, let’s just say that last month has been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster at work, but it’s all good now, at least I hope it is. 

On the other hand, I also teared up a little yesterday while reading one of the new entries in the Lestappen tag. I’d rec it here, but the author doesn’t want it shared outside AO3. Nevertheless, you’ll find it in the tag quite easily I think.

3. Do you have kids? 

Nope. Think I might want one eventually, but definitely not any time soon.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

It usually comes out the strongest when I’m pissed off, and when it does...let’s just say I’m not anybody’s bestie then 😅. 

5. What sports do you play/have you played?

I have a confession to make...I’m a bit like our beloved boys Maxy and Charlie when it comes to sports (that may also include driving, but I hope I can fix that soon). I did try dance for a hot minute, but I kind of/sort sucked at it. What else? Oh right, had one swimming class before I caught pneumonia. Fun times.

6. What's the first thing you notice about other people?

I have a bit of a sweet spot for fashion, so definitely how they’re dressed. Charlie baby, I’m definitely judging you.

7. Scary movies or happy endings?

Definitely happy endings. Although recently I’ve been the tiniest bit more exposed to scary movies. I still think they suck though.

8. Any special talents?

Definitely not. Although I’m going to take a page out of Elle’s book and say that at least I am fully aware about things I suck at. Self-conscious, right? That can easily slip into underestimating yourself, but that’s a another story...

9. Where were you born?

Romania, my frenemy, the land of choice. King Charles apparently likes it here. If only it were a different Charles...ahem.

10. What are your hobbies?

Reading, writing, watching silly little sports about silly little tax-evading men and down-right abusive federations and coaches who exploit their athletes...also spending time with the people I love. Balance, right? 

11. Do you have any pets?

I do! Two kitties and one dog. But they’re not as cool as Audie!

12. How tall are you?

164 cm, and I am very adamant that it’s 164, not 163, okay? Also, I have no idea how inches work. 

13. Fave subject in school?

It would have been Math if I had had less...Russian coaches like teachers (to a much more smaller scale, but still). English definitely, and I guess also Romanian (but our literature is...not the most entertaining and my teachers were weird).

14. Dream job?

I’m starting more and more to realise that it’s being a university professor. Which is a bit of bummer financially, and also it doesn’t help that in my field and in my country it’s generally perceived that only people who fail in the industry turn to academia. But I really like working with students and helping them succeed.

15. Eye colour?

I’m going to step away from the poop joke and instead use the Stephenie Meyer description of chocolate brown ✌🏻.

No one really knows when Andy showed up, he was just. there. one day, and everyone kinda went with it. He's notorious for wearing sunglasses indoors, to the point where the teachers have stopped discouraging it. Justin is a trans guy who's trying really hard to present as a dude while also having more 'feminine' interests like sewing and also wearing skirts to school. He's really nice, if not a bit clueless. There's a small fanclub for him in the school.

Sebastian was also one of the tied rounds that got pushed forward, he's a goofy guy, always ready with a quip or joke to keep up morale in their ragtag group of heroes. Chrisa is SO sweet, it's probably impossible to hate her (she's the favourite child among the crew fghdjs). I want to say more but I don't want to spoil anything! We've only got two TVT characters left in the tournament and they're actually very close to both of these two :)

ATLA rewatch thoughts, Book 2 (ep 2, 3)

2) The Cave of the Two Lovers: One of THE classic Kataang episodes! The very first time I saw the title card, I was like, “The cave of what” 🤣

For some reason, the legend of Oma and Shu hit harder than I thought it would 🥺😭...maybe because Aang and Katara are discovering their stories while standing in their tomb, and because of how much the story parallels and foreshadows Kataang in the rest of the series 

This was the episode where I knew that Kataang was going to be endgame. No way the creators would write a whole episode like this and not have it happen 😤

Zuko is a wanted exile, but he’s still an entitled prince at heart - he throws a temper tantrum in his first scene in this episode. “I can't live like this! I wasn't meant to be a fugitive!”

When Song mentions that she hasn’t seen her father after he was taken away by the FN, Zuko broodingly mentions that he hasn’t seen his father in a long time, either. He’s still hanging onto happier memories of the relationship he used to have with Ozai (in the previous episode, when Iroh places his hand on Zuko’s shoulder, there’s a flashback to Ozai’s hand on Zuko’s shoulder - such an impactful way of showing how much Zuko values his relationship with his father, and that Iroh is now that familial connection for him, even if Zuko’s doesn’t fully realize or accept it yet). In this episode, Zuko still clearly wishes for his relationship with his father to be restored. Even though Iroh acts as his surrogate father, no one can take the place of Zuko’s real father, even with everything that has happened.

When Zuko sees the burn scar on Song’s leg, this is the first time he is faced with a real person who was harmed by the FN in a similar way as he was. It’s his first step to stop centering the world around him, and to feel a little compassion for an unimportant commoner on the enemy’s side. It’s the first time he starts to see someone like Song as a human being with intrinsic worth.

But it’s only a first step. Zuko still feels like the world owes him what he wants and needs, and he steals Song’s ostrich horse. Iroh can’t stop him, so he joins him (and Iroh benefits, too). For me, Zuko sinks to a new low here. I have many thoughts about this, which led me to write this fic from Song’s POV.

3) Return to Omashu: 

Katara and Sokka don’t want to risk going into Omashu and suggest that Aang find an earthbending teacher elsewhere. Aang says, “This isn't about finding a teacher. This is about finding my friend.” Bumi is his only friend left from before the iceberg, and one of his last connections to his life back then 😭

Azula, Mai and Ty Lee!!! Love all the nuance in their interactions. Azula is clearly the queen bee popular girl, the one with status (because she’s the FL’s daughter, duh), and the one who calls the shots...and even if Mai and Ty Lee disagree with her, they’ll never say so and won’t buck her authority. Because they know that Azula has the power and will to make their lives miserable if they don’t comply. So they’re friends because they grew up together, went to school together, and were part of the same friend group. Their loyalty to Azula is based on their history together and her status. They’re committed to the mission of capturing Zuko and Iroh (and the Avatar), but only as far as they value and fear Azula’s hold on them.

The fight scenes and action sequences are so much fun 🙌

OKAY SO, the first one that comes to mind is Handsome Devil. Would this essentially be emotional turmoil for Cap ? Absolutely yes but 1) I'd love to see him understand that times have changed and people are accepting of queerness and 2) it's a beautiful movie that I think all the ghosts could benefit from watching. Especially the Captain. It's about these two kids in an irish boarding school who form an unlikely friendship (Ned - outcast loner and Conor - rugby fiend loved by the school for his skills). PLEASE WATCH IT IF YOU HAVEN'T. Also the soundtrack for this movie is BEAUTIFUL and makes me go a lil insane every time I watch it. IT"S GOT ANDREW SCOTT AS A GAY ENGLISH TEACHER !!!

Otherwise, I'd also choose The Nice Guys. Fun detective buddy-cop movie and so far everyone I've showed it to has enjoyed it. I also think it'd start a really good discussion about sex work and the judicial system. Not necessarily in relation to each other but still. Fanny would definitely be shocked just at the opening scene but honestly, I think after some discussing she'd enjoy it too. Maybe. Julian definitely would. But it's fuckin hilarious and also heartwarming with the lil hint of found family.

OOH OR OCEAN'S 11 now there's some good found family with another stellar soundtrack. Or Knives Out. NOW THAT, Fanny would love. Into the light once again - typical fl dies and has a new life (and btw it was brutal so i have to just warn you about that) but the ART and the way her new family is is just soooo refreshing !! unknown ml yet but so far im betting it’s the spirit king

Honey I’m going on a strike - absolutely adorable ml i just gotta say. this is kinda diff than those typical plots where the fl dies and goes back time since the fl and ml are already married, so the story kind of revolves around their married life

The Villainess Reverses the Hourglass - ABSOLUTELY ONE OF MY FAVORITE FL’S!! she’s just so badass and amazing and beautiful. plus the ml listens to her and i like their dynamics a lot

Seduce the Villain’s Father - VERY CUTE COUPLE ! I adore them !!!!!!! The fl wants to save ml so he won’t die a horrible death with his future son with another woman so she does this by continually asking him to marry her (and it works ok)

The Way to Protect the Female Lead’s Older Brother - the most beautiful art and the most beautiful FL I HAVE EVER SEEN !!! And btw one of the characters reminds me of scara but moving on, the fl is in a bad and brutal family (there will be blood here and there be warned) who she cleverly protected the ml from, and she is actually the most cunning of them istg. Ml is way hotter in the past but hey they both look good together but hey im continuing this bc of the absolutely beautiful fl

When the Villainess Loves - I have been waiting for the update for the longest time but hey this deserves a spot here. The fl has a thing with handsome men and protects all of the side ml’s in the original story tho the real ml of the manhwa is probably the other male villain. Anyway i remember liking this very much and if you are comfy with a sickly!fl go for it

I became the wife of the male lead - Oh my god? Wtf? Why is this not being updated???? Because the art!!! The plot!!! The father-like figure of the fl !!!??? Like srsly i absolutely adore the father-daughter ish relationship the fl has with the ml’s teacher. I bring you a headcanon: Madrigal kids & Hairspray. (Hope you like it).

- Tracy is definitely Isabela's fave. Takes no shit and fights for what she believes. Kinda reminds her of her little sister Mirabel, btw. She also like the diversity of the cast. Reminds her of her family.

- Mirabel loves the songs, of course, but she loves the story more. She's inspired to start some protest to make Encanto a better place, she just needs a good reason to start.

- Luisa has a crush on Link. And also on Penny. She's a very soft girl who always sings along to "I can hear the bells".

- Dolores pretends that she's too cool for musicals but cries during the whole "Without love" arc because she's a hopeless romantic. (Not so) secretly hopes someone will love her like Wilbur loves Edna.

- Camilo spent 3 weeks trying to nail as much of the choreography as possible. He knows all the lyrics and is committed to make his school put on a production of Hairspray. Also tries to convince the teacher that YES - he can play 4 or 5 characters in the play.

- Antonio haven't watched it yet, but murmurs a few songs because Camilo heard the soundtrack so many times that is impregnated on everybody's brain.

Pepa LOVES Edna's character arc solely because empowered women is something that she finds so cool, considering she comes from a family of mostly women. Not only that but seeing others supporting Edna makes her cry a lot. It reminds her of how supportive her husband and kids are too. "Big, Blonde and Beautiful" starts playing and she starts screaming.

Bruno is not the biggest fan, mostly because he's into more dramatic musicals, but he loves the costumes and stage design a lot.

Tracy is also Julieta's fave for the same reason she's Isa's fave as well. Tracy reminds her a lot of Mirabel.

Agustín is a Wilbur and Edna stan and he LOVES teasing Julieta when "You're Timeless To Me" plays. He knows the lyrics by heart at this point.

Félix loves the overall energy of the musical and his fave songs are surely "Run and Tell That" and "You Can't Stop The Beat". Seaweed is his fave and he's gonna make it everyone's problem.

Alma... even though she's not the biggest Hairspray fan, she always cries when "I Know Where I've Been" starts. Always.

I seem to be on a "fave media x 80's cult classic" kick right now (there'll be a Sailor Moon x Back to the Future post sometime in the future), so let's have my latest combo: the Young Jedi Knights Squad (Jaina, Jacen, Zekk, Tenel Ka, and Raynar) as The Breakfast Club! Aka a fanfic that i will never write and yet so desperately want to see written i already made Fanart for it. Go figure. Anyways have some iconic scenes from the movies!

The Players:

Zekk is, obviously, the "delinquent"; he's an orphan, he has to work and scrounge up his food and clothes, he pulls harebrained schemes for the adrenaline rush--he's a teacher's (specifically Brakiss's) worst nightmare. Of course, that's not all he is; he's got a key mind for mechanics and technology, helped by his scrap searching; he stays out at all hours because he doesn't like being home alone (his guardian Peckham, who he loves like family, is often away as a truck driver, and it gets lonely in their little house without him); he's kindhearted, and fiercely loyal, he just doesn't want to let anyone in out of fear of losing them, or that they won't like what they see....

Jaina is the "princess"; the only daughter of the Governor, she's been groomed to play nice and hang out with the other children of politicians and CEOs since she was just a little girl. Nowadays they form her primary group of friends, the most popular kids in school, looked up to--or down upon-- by their peers in equal measure. And... She kinda hates it. She stays with them only out of obligation, to make her mother's life easier, but she doesn't particularly care about any of them and doesn't even particularly enjoy their company; it's all drama and gossip and a revolving cacophony of dating and breaking up and bitter exes and rivalries and she is sick of it. She would much rather be spending her time at her dad's auto shop, getting her hands dirty tuning up engines and changing oil and bonding with Han. She can't tell anyone that tho, it would ruin her reputation...

Jacen is the "jock"; the twin brother of Jaina, he also feels a certain pressure to stay in with the popular crowd. He achieves this by being captain of the fencing team; it's no star quarterback position but it is still respectable among his peers. Fencing isn't his true passion, tho; he'd much rather be spending all his time at the local animal shelters, or assisting at the zoo. He's an animal lover through and through, but it's something he hides from his "friends" so that they don't have reason to shun him for being a "sissy." He knows there's nothing ignoble about his hobby, but they don't know that....

Tenel Ka is, for lack of a better term, the "weirdo"; she comes from somewhere called Dathomir, from a culture of fierce warrior women, and boy, does she act like it. She will readily duel anyone who looks at her wrong, she eats entire animal legs for lunch, and she never seems to show much emotion.... Ever. Add to that her missing arm (which no one knows the truth about btw, rumors fly about it being anything from a childhood accident to one of her duels gone wrong), and she cuts an intimidating figure that most students avoid. Is there more to her than that? Oh is there. Is there ever.

Raynar Thul is the final member of the crew; he's the "trust fund baby" that hangs out with a very specific clique that even Jaina and Jacen aren't a part of. He comes across as snobbish and standoffish, unwilling to dabble with anyone "lesser". This is a front, however; he projects this persona because it's what his parents expect from him, and he doesn't want word getting back to them about what he actually does: extensive volunteer work. Raynar has a drive to help people, and has been trying to use his privilege all through high school to do just that, by volunteering at food banks and for highway clean up, and donating as much of his allowance as physically possible where he can. In fact, it's how he met his girlfriend Lusa, but that's a whole other can of worms...

what is your problem with tiktok or booktok and colleen hoover lmao its not that bad surely

the fact that it actively promotes overconsumerism, the way it sells books to you by just playing into already heavily milked out tropes with very specific character niches that are seen in every book nowadays and how the reading is just seen as something aesthetic or a part of the "it girl routine" maybe? if those are enough reasons for you?

does the fact that these books are the first things you see when you walk into a bookstore not bother you? when you ask someone for a book recommendation they'll follow it up with "its a romance slow burn enemies to lovers". it's always about the aesthetic of the book, how many lines can you take out of context and post as a compilation of your super cute romantic annotations page on instagram. no analyzing the book, no theories, no symbolism or meaningfulness at all. how people stand reading those kind of books and still feel any kind of emotions over these flat as hell books with no world or character building is genuinely baffling to me

no one seems to know about actual literature anymore, which not to sound like a boomer but i think its definitely true. there's always been trend cycles, i agree such as the harry potter craze from the 1990s to the 2000s and the dystopia hunger games/maze runner/divergent blast in the early 2010s but tiktok has just.. shortened these cycles so much. as a result, people like our darling colleen hoover whose written around 46 books since 2015 (according to google) try come up with as much fresh content as they can as quickly as possible for the readers (see overconsumption). the fact that this lady outsold the bible is not outstanding to me, its fucking concerning.

and after all that, the result is badly written books with characters who're about as dimensional as a piece of paper, overuse of tropes, read like they've been written by a toddler, toxic-ass relationships being romanticised, very unnecessary sex scenes and countless other things. seriously if i wanted to read about the kind of stories hoover tells i would just open a wattpad account.

this isn't to say that all booktok books are terrible. i'm trying to highlight some of the flaws i find in authors like colleen hoover, emily henry, taylor jenkins reid, ali hazelwood, sarah j maas and elena armas. some of their works are quite decent :) six of crows, thsoeh, tsoa, circe, daisy jones, where the crawdads sing etc are some books which i think everyone has heard of if theyre active online which were actually nice reads. also i am BEGGING u to reach out of your comfort zone and read something different like non-fiction or fantasy or one of the classics for once if you only read booktok like seriously it might be hard but just do it for the love of god!!

the double standards are through the fucking ROOF. it actually makes me want to fucking strangle someone. if i get called 'racist, and anti white' for saying that white ppl cannot experience racism and get held back when i have another lesson????? then a pasty ass dude call me, the n word (im fucking brown anyway) IN FRONT OF A TEACHER?? this is a pair of angst filled drawings. So the girl on the top is my gem oc royal purple saphrine (saphrines made by spookiemora) and saphrines eat saphires to steal there abilitys of future vision. So I have a human hybrid oc who's half saphire, and I wondered "what would happen if a saphrine tried to eat a hlsaphire human hybrid" and thus agst insued. The character with the gun on the bottom is Irene, who is the girlfriend of Sophie (the aforementioned saphire human hybrid). So yeah just some angst for angsts sake lol
