Summary: You loopy on drugs.

A/N: Hi, sorry this took so long to get out. I know many of you have been waiting for a third part to this. I was super busy with midterms and then working during all of spring break. I didn't even touch my computer until last night. Hopefully the next few chapters will come out sooner than this one.

You alarm was going off, making you groan. It was to early for this. You just wanted to sleep longer. You hated waking up early in the morning, you liked staying up late at night.
You snoozed your alarm for the 5th time, when Travis knocked on your door. "Y/N, you up?" He slowly pushed the door open, letting in light from the hallway.
"Travis" You whined motioning towards the door.
"We gotta leave in 15 minutes."
You buried your face in the pillow, "Just cancel the surgery. I don't want it anymore. I'd rather walk with a bum leg." He rolled his eyes.
"I expect you in the car in 15 minutes or I'm dragging you out." He shut the door, leaving you in darkness.
You groaned, reaching over to turn on the lamp. You put on shorts and a hoodie, before going through your basic morning routine. You were walking into the kitchen 10 minutes later.
"It should be a crime to get up this early just for someone to cut into your body." You complained, as you slipped on your tennis shoes.
"You're just a ray of sunshine in the morning." You rolled your eyes. Travis and you have had enough early morning together that he knew you hated them.
Travis on the other hand was a morning person. You also despised him for it. Why couldn't he do late night workouts instead of morning ones? You never knew.
You climbed into his car and got ready to take another nap. You had a 45 minutes drive and you planned to use it wisely.
You were out within 5 minutes. Travis looked over at your sleeping state and couldn't help but smile. He liked when you looked relaxed, which was something he rarely got to see.
Once you guys got there he woke you up. You guys entered through a private door, so other patients wouldn't see Travis. You sat on the bed in your hospital gown, waiting for the nurse to come back.
"Nervous?" Travis asked.
"What? No. I'm fine."
He raised an eyebrow, "Really, cause you haven't quit tapping your fingers since the nurse told you it was almost time." You placed your hand in your lap, forcing yourself to calm down.
"Maybe I'm a little nervous."
"Don't be. Doctor Locke is a great doctor."
"I know and you'll be here when I get out right?" You asked looking almost bashful, like you didn't believe Travis would stay for the whole thing.
Travis wanted to frown at your question, of course he'd be there when you got out. He wasn't just going to leave you, but what he didn't know is that's what you expected from people.
When you were 11 you had appendicitis and when you got done with the surgery your mom was no where to be found. She'd gone on a date that night, leaving you to an empty hospital room when you'd woken up.
"I'll be here, don't worry." Travis said just as the nurse walked in.
"Ready?" She asked with a bright smile on her face.
"I guess." You said as she injected something in your arm and wheeled you out. You don't remember anything after that.
All you do know is that when you woke up Travis was there, sitting by your bed. "Hey," he said standing up and coming over to you. You smiled at him as his hand reached out to cup your face.
He used his thumb to remove some of hair on your forehead. You leaned into his touch, not even aware of what you were doing. Travis pulled his hand back, when the nurse came in with the doctor.
"Ah, glad to see your awake." Dr. Locke said, as the nurse jotted down your vitals. "Vicky here's gonna help you get dressed and then you'll be free to go." He said pointing to the nurse.
"Ok." You said, trying to keep up. Your brain was scrambled from whatever they used to put you asleep.
"Hey, I'm gonna step out. I'll be back in a minute." You frowned at Travis, "I'll be right back promise."
You nodded, "Ok, lets get you dressed sweetie."
-----
"Dr. Locke." Travis called following the man.
"Hey Travis, what can I do for you?"
"Nothing. I just wanted to say thanks for squeezing her in."
"No problem, anything for a you. She must be pretty important for you to call. You two make a cute couple."
"Oh, she's not my girlfriend. Just my assistant."
"My bad, just judging by the way you looked at her I thought you two were together."
"Yea, just friends."
"Well your a good friend then, I don't know many people that would pay for their 'friends' entire medical bill." With that Dr. Locke left, leaving Travis in the hallway.
Just friends, he reminded himself. You'd never acted interested in anything more and Travis didn't want to overstep or make things awkward.
You were a damn good assistant and he'd be mad if he messed that up and lost you. That's why he kept his distance.
Travis went back into your room and saw you laying in the bed. "She's gonna be out of it for a while and kind of drowsy. We order her some put some pain meds in this bag for her, along with everything else she might need.
"Travis!" You cheered when you finally noticed he was in the room. "You're here!" You smiled bigger than he had ever seen before, making his heart clench.
It's just the drugs, he reminded himself. "Told you I'd be here." He responded, now standing next to your bed.
"We're ready to take her downstairs and load her into your car." The nurse said as she brought in a wheelchair. Travis nodded as the nurse continued, "You can pull your car up the same entrance you came in we'll meet you there."
"Sounds good." He turned to you, "I'll be right back, just gonna get the car."
"Ok," You nodded seriously, which made him laugh.
The nurse loaded you into the wheel chair and pushed you to the entrance Travis was waiting at. He parked the car and got out taking over for the nurse and loading you into the car.
You weren't supposed to put any pressure on your leg for the next 3 weeks. Once you were loaded in the car, Travis got in and started driving. "Travis." You whined, gaining his attention. Not that you ever really lost it.
"What's wrong?" He asked worrying about you.
"I'm starving. I haven't eaten in like 50 million years." You whined, causing him to laugh.
"I don't think it's been that long."
"I think I would know how long it's been since I've last eaten." You replied.
"Ok, my bad." Travis said turning onto the highway. "How about I order us some food, for when we get home."
"Ok, I'll take pizza, Chinese, Mexican, and Italian."
"Your sure you don't want to choose just one?"
"Nope, it's been 50 million years. I want them all." Travis laughed. "Can you please not laugh. How would you feel if you hadn't eaten in 50 million years?" He put a hand over his mouth trying to muffle his chuckling.
You kept talking about random things as he drove you to his house. He was trying not to laugh, but the random things you were blurting out was making it hard.
Finally he pulled into his garage. "Travis!" You shouted as he turned off the car.
His head snapped to face you, "What?"
"How am I supposed to get into the house if I can't walk?" You were starting to freak out. You didn't want to be stuck in his car for 3 weeks.
He placed a hand on your arm calming you down. He spoke slowly, "I have crutches in the back seat for you. Plus I'll help you inside."
You nodded, slowly processing his words. He opened the door and grabbed the crutches for you and then helped you out of the car. You slowly made it inside, Travis helping you the whole way.
He helped you into his bed, and got you situated. "Ok, I'll be right back. I'm going to go order food." He put the remote next to you. "You can watch tv if you want."
"Do you have paramount?"
"No, but I have netflix, hulu, hbo max, peacock, and disney plus."
"How do you not have paramount? It has my favorite show on it." That's when your eyes widened, "Can you not afford it?" You whisper shouted.
He laughed, "I can afford it. But I might not be able to after I order all the food you requested."
"Yes! Go order the food" You commanded, pointing towards the door.
He chuckled, before leaving the room to order all the food you wanted. He had to call 5 different restaurants and placed an order through Hyvee for some ice cream to be delivered.
After he was done he went back to his room, where you were currently staying, to check on you. You were passed out in his bed, with a random tv show playing that he didn't recognize. He grabbed the remote from his nightstand and turned off the tv, before shutting off the lights and exiting the room. Leaving you to rest after a long day, despite it only being noon.

The days leading up to Christmas couldn't have gone any faster. Before you knew it you were waving the students goodbye on the Hogsmeade station platform, sending them off to the warmth of their families.
You however, were welcoming your family home.
"There it is!" Professor Onai grinned from beside you, pointing ahead at the face of a train pushing through thick white smoke. With a loud toot, the chugging machine came to a halt, the carriage doors springing open.
Out onto the platform stepped your best friend, the person you were missing most in the world, Natty. Wrapped up in a red woollen jumper and her braided hair floating in the wind, she was glowing. Her mother stepped past you, pulling her into a hug, causing you to beam at their joy. However it wasn't long before you were pulled into that hug too, giggling in the cold with your favourite person. Well, second favourite person.
It meant everything to see Natty again, to know she was safe. The admiration you felt for her went beyond words. She was the one person you could really use some advice from right now, but you dare not ask. To run the risk of Sebastian's life was too much. In fact, you hadn't told Natty a thing about his condition, nor the details of your new found closeness. The last Natty heard you were dating Garreth, Merlin you'd better update her on that too..
You hadn't managed to get a word in the whole walk back to the castle, she had plenty to tell her Mother which you of course understood. Besides, something else had your attention as the three of you stumbled through the snow. The lake. Every time you passed it you found yourself hypnotised, it was all but impossible to focus knowing that what you needed could lie beneath the thick ice that still remained in place of rolling waves.
A tight clasp suddenly grabbed your wrist.
"Don't."
Professor Onai's word rang deep, echoing in your skull. She knew something.
Natty turned to her mother, completely baffled at what she was doing.
"What's going on?" She said cautiously, aware that clearly her mothers gift had come to use.
"I don't know what you're thinking of doing down there, but don't." The Professor paused for a moment, slowly closing her eyes. "I sense only danger, the darkest and coldest kind. Happiness being snapped away in an instant. You.... And someone else."
There was a silence between the three of you. A real dampener on the joy that was ringing just moments ago.
"Mother, please not now-" Natty broke the silence.
"No-" you interrupted. "I understand, I- I won't," you lied.
The Professor nodded to you, snapping out of it in a instant.
"Don't look at me like that!" She said to Natty with a chuckle, as the two of them made their way towards the castle walls. You lingered behind them a couple of paces, your mind spinning about what this could all mean, attempting to process.
"I uh, have somewhere I need to be. I'll see you at dinner?" You called out with a smile as they approached the door.
Natty nodded and waved, mouthing the words 'I'm sorry!" as she closed the door behind her.
You went to the only place you knew could provide any solace right now, the undercroft.
~~~
As you sat in the corner of the candlelit chamber, your thoughts scoured for any kind of answer.
Did you even believe in divination anyway? Sebastian always insisted it was a load of rubbish.
But what Professor Onai said, it was so.. specific. 'You and.. someone else' that someone else obviously being Sebastian. Danger in the lake, it was all.. worrisome.
There was nobody to confide in, you certainly couldn't tell Sebastian. And Natty, oh Merlin would you be in trouble for dabbling in all of this if she found out.
Perhaps you shouldn't dabble at all?
But Sebastian.. he'll...
It was an endless cycle, a cycle with no answer. And somehow you had let this cycle eat away at you for hours, as before long it was already time for dinner.
~~~
Wandering through the practically empty halls, you tried everything you could to push it all to the back of your mind. To enjoy one nice evening with your friend was all that you needed, and this gruesome prophecy was not going to ruin that.
You thought for a moment that you might have missed it as you stepped into the Great Hall, before remembering that most of the students had left for the holidays. Despite the room being completely empty, rows and rows of delicious food still remained, completely untouched.
A soft touch graced your waistline, luring you back in to the little room that stood between dinner and the halls of the castle. You didn't need to turn to know who it was, this gentleness had become oh so familiar, like returning home. Breath tickled your earlobe as a chin arrived on your shoulder, guiding you behind the door to remain out of sight.
"Sebastian.." came from under your breath. He said nothing, but you felt a grin stretch across his face at hearing his name. His fingertips exploring your waist further, you gave in, turning to face him as he pressed his forehead to yours. Interlacing your hand with his, you played with his fingers, letting out the smile you'd been trying to hold back.
"What is it?" You whispered with a blush, as if nothing of note had had you in crippling despair for the past few hours.
"Spend Christmas Eve with me?" He whispered back, his eyes begging you to say yes.
You were melting into him. It was hard to believe that this was the same man who was ignoring you just a few months ago. But you knew it was too good to be true, after all. He could be ripped away in an instant if you didn't hurry up and find this item. You wished more than anything that you could enjoy a single moment with him without reality plaguing your mind. A harsh reminder of how much you had to cherish this, before it was too late.
A quick 'ahem' interrupted your reply.
"What an interesting development," said a smug looking face, eyes filled with thrill.
"Natty-" Sebastian replied awkwardly, stepping back a little but keeping your fingers intertwined with his. "It's good to see you again."
By now you were looking like a tomato, blushing the deepest red, your eyes still glued to Sebastian.
"Come, MC. We have much to catch up on," Natty teased, gesturing you to follow.
Reluctantly you pulled your hand away from his, turning to Natty as she wandered into the hall.
Sebastian however, wasn't having it. With a gentle but powerful grip on your forearm he pulled you back in, bringing his hand to your cheek.
"I didn't get my answer."
"I think you know it's always yes."
~~~
"FINALLY!" Exclaimed Natty, a little too loud over the table, absolutely thrilled at the news that you and Sebastian were at last... something.
There was however a slight issue with the news, the entire story you just told her was a lie. You couldn't exactly tell her the truth, that Sebastian was cursed under an unbreakable vow, that his whole engagement was a sham. A little fluffed up story about how he had a change of heart would do much better in Natty's ears.
You'd become a bit of a frequent liar recently, which before all of this, was entirely out of character.
But was it? You'd spent a good portion of your life lying about, or to Sebastian. Lying about being completely fine with his engagement, pretending you'd never even had feelings for him in the first place. And now you're here, lying to your best friend because of those feelings. Lying to Garreth, lying to Sebastian again about not getting involved and now lying to yourself. Telling yourself it would all be okay, telling yourself you can save him.
Professor Onai's voice whispering in your head.
Can you really save him.. or are you doomed to fail?
~~~
It was Christmas Eve at last, and you stood outside Professor Sallows office door, balancing a tray of cookies atop a neatly wrapped gift.
Before you could even reach to knock, the door swung open. Sebastian stood before you, grinning ear to ear at the sight.
"Come in."
He lead you through and you carefully placed the cookies and gift on his desk. Candlelight flickered through the cinnamon smelling room as the fireplace roared in front of blanket covered sofa. With the same pile of books you'd left there sitting on a coffee table accompanied by two mugs of swirling hot chocolate.
"Is that for me?" Sebastian whispered eagerly, pointing to the gift like a little boy on Christmas morning.
It killed you to be a disappointment, but you had to tell the truth.
"The gift is for Anne, but the cookies are all yours," you said, perching on the edge of the sofa.
Despite your expectation, hearing the gift was not for him but for Anne only sent a soft smile across his lips. He sat down on the sofa beside you and took a breath. His hands traveled up towards you waist, closing you in as he pulled you forward. Before you knew it you were piled on top of him, laying across the sofa with his hand buried in your hair.
Your ear to his chest, the only thing breaking the silence was the rhythmic beating of his heart, and his slow breathing that raised your body ever so slightly.
"Thank you," he whispered, so quietly you weren't sure you were even meant to hear it. You also weren't sure what exactly he was thanking you for. The gift for Anne, or for just being there?
The Sebastian you knew before had entirely crumbled to dust, the hard exterior was no more. This man needed someone, someone to confide in, someone to hold him, and that someone was you.
You lay in bliss, intertwined under the heat of fire. Focusing only on the here and the now, making every attempt to forget the stakes that brought you here.
"As much as I'm truly enjoying this," Sebastian said softly. "I'd really like a cookie."
You sat up, beaming at him. He was absolutely adorable. His hair all disheveled from your fingertips, his freckles highlighted under the warm light. Tonight felt different, like you were seeing a side of him you hadn't yet, or at least not since you were students.
He reached over the cookies and took a bite, his eyes glowing as the taste hits his tongue.
"You did good."
And once again that smile left you a red stuttering mess.
Your eyes wandered over to the pile of books you still hadn't read, the ones Sebastian had forbid you from opening.
"May I?" You asked, reaching over to the top of the stack.
He chuckled, crossing his leg over the other.
"You don't need my permission. But treat yourself, since it's Christmas," he winked. "Besides, like I said.. there's nothing in there of note. And I know what you're looking for."
"What makes you so sure?" You said back, a hint of tease on your lips. You were certain he didn't know, not the specifics anyway.
He rolled his eyes with a smirk.
"Unless you have a sudden passion for archaeology, I think I know what you're doing."
"And I think I know more than you realise."
Sebastian leaned forward, his lips hovering yours, his eyes jet black.
"Then I suggest you quit while you're ahead."
Something in your brain switched in that moment. The tone of his voice seeping with desire. There was something so wrong about the way he just spoke to you, and there was something even more wrong about the way it made you feel.
Was it protective, was it a lack of faith? You didn't know. You only knew it filled you with fire, a need to keep going, a need to disobey his wishes.
The hunger inside of you only allowed for one thing, and that was pushing your lips against his. He met yours with a bite that travelled down to neck as he lowered you under him.
You were finally alone, no consequences, no interruptions. Nothing but pure desire that reflected in the heat of the fire beside you. You were all of each other, and nothing in the world could stop you.
~~~
Your eyes fluttered open as streaks of light soaked through the stained glass window. Quickly your mind began to piece together the memory of where exactly you were,  which was all confirmed when the strong arm wrapped around your body tightened. Sebastian.
Cramped together on his office sofa, you lay in nothing but his button up shirt that he was wearing when you arrived at the door.
Merlin, this was not how you expected the night to go, but you were not even a little bit mad about it.
Sebastian whimpered in his slumber, his bare chest pressed firmly against your back. If only you could have stayed there forever. But you couldn’t, it was Christmas Day, and Anne was waiting for you.
You shuffled under the blanket, rolling over to face him. Your eyes followed the freckles across his face, you’d never had the chance to admire him so close, and somehow at such a distance he was even more perfect.
“Sebastian,” you whispered. “Merry Christmas.”
You placed a gentle kiss at the tip of his nose, prompting his eyes to blink open. Sebastian sighed out a smile as he focused on you, taking in the reality of you wrapped in his arms.
“I don’t think I could have dreamed of a better gift than this,” he chuckled under his breath before leaning his lips towards your collarbone and placing a soft kiss upon you.
As he did so, your gaze floated across the room, eventually landing on the clock above the fireplace.
“Merlin, we’re late!” You said, sitting up and attempting to cover yourself with the shirt hanging from your shoulders.
“Noo” Sebastian whined, trying to pull you back down into his arms.
“Stop it,” you giggled. “We have to see Anne.”
Sebastian’s eyes widened as he remembered the reason you were there in the first place. Nothing in the world would allow him to let down his sister, not even another day with you.
~~~
You had planned to take the floo system to Feldcroft from just outside of Hogsmeade. Originally however, the plan was to fly, but the heavy snowfall was simply not permitting.
Sebastian dragged you out of the castle, hand in hand and giggling. He couldn’t get enough of you, and the memory of you at his mercy the night before was fogging his rationality entirely. The emptiness of the castle grounds had given you both a sudden confidence, a chance to just be without the prying eyes of students.
All that consumed your mind was him, him and only him. That was until you stepped foot onto the crystallised path of ice that lead the way over the place you’d tried your hardest to forget about. The lake.
Once again that prophecy rang in your ears, causing your eyes to shift out of focus and your arms to stiffen. It was as if you’d forgotten entirely what was really going on.
The muffled sound of Sebastian’s voice lingered past the ringing, not quite able to reach your train of thought.
“MC…MC?”
You snapped out of it, suddenly facing Sebastian head on with his hands gripped upon your shoulders.
“MC? Are you alright?” His eyes filled with worry.
“What? Yes- sorry, I just zoned out there,” you stuttered.
Sebastian’s arms quickly reached under you, scooping you up like a princess. You had no idea what compelled him to do such a thing, but it was just what you needed to bring you back to reality. The warmth of his cheeks was so enticing in the icy wind, luring you to place your frozen lips against them.
Suddenly he picked up the pace, and started running away from the castle with you still clinging onto him.
“Sebastian!” You cried, unable to contain your laughter. Although you weren’t quite sure why, as you were certain this would end in disaster.
And you’d be right, he barely made it 10 metres before sliding on the frozen path. Squeezing your eyes tightly shut you buried your head into his neck, preparing for impact.
Sliding down he somehow maintained balance before coming to a halt, standing deadly still on a slope as you hung on for dear life.
“See, I’ve got you,” he panted with a smug expression.
Oh how he’d eat his words.
With one little step he came tumbling down, gripping you tightly as he slipped backwards. With a roll, he landed directly on top of you, cheeks flushed and hair covered in snow.
You stared at each other for a moment, before erupting into laughter. Collapsing into each other with such warmth the ice around you could have simply melted away.
This, this was how it was supposed to be.
~~~
You finally arrived at Feldcroft, covered head to toe in snowflakes. Still feeling rather giddy from the events of the day, you turned to Sebastian with bashful smile, hoping to be met with his in return.
But you were not.
What was a confident charming man just moments ago, had been replaced by a haunting sombre figure.
“Sebastian..” you began, gently touching his arm compassionately.
“I’m alright, it’s just hard… being here.” He rubbed his face with his palm, avoiding any eye contact. “Do you mind if I, go in first?”
You nodded.
And so you watched Sebastian approach the Sallows front door, the first time you’d seen him here since… then. He hesitated his knock, but was met with the door opening and being greeted by the nurse he had mentioned.
“Sebastian,” you heard her say in the distance, behind the whistling of the wind. You watched as Sebastian slipped inside, leaving the door slightly ajar for you to follow.
You weren’t really sure how long you should wait, a minute or two? Maybe longer? Standing in the snow for a while, you took in the sights of the sugarcoated highlands, reminiscing on a time when things somehow seemed much simpler.
You couldn’t wait to see Anne again, you’d missed her dearly. And you certainly couldn’t wait to see the look on her face upon finding out that you and her brother were now an item. Despite your eagerness, you waited longer, not wanting to intrude on their private time despite how bitter the temperature was becoming.
As you zoned out into the views, a little voice called out to you.
“Come in, dear! You must be freezing out there!” It was the nurse, huddled behind the door.
You approached, thanking her as you reached the warmth at last. After closing the door behind you, you spotted the back of Sebastian’s head sitting at a bedside, the snowflakes still sitting in his messy locks.
“Anne!” You called out excitedly, gift in hand.
You were met with the turning of Sebastian’s head, his expression a look you’d never seen on his face before. An expression you hoped you’d never see.
And then you saw her, Anne. Or what remained of her.
The air swept out of your lungs as you approached the corpse like figure sunken in the bed before you.
She was unrecognisable, her skin a colour you couldn’t even describe, her hair the texture of wire. The Anne you knew was far gone, all that remained was the shell of a person who was too weak to even be. To even communicate. Just looking at her triggered the picture of inferi that you’d buried deep in your memory, something she now resembled more than a living human. It was utterly sickening to see somebody you once knew become… this. To know she was still suffering.
And then it hit you. You knew completely and truly why Sebastian did it all. In fact, for the first time you agreed with him.
This wasn’t about just saving him anymore, this was about Anne.
You had to do it for Anne.
alright so I said the other night that I came up with a huge bullet point list detailing a qsmp au that I have no intentions of writing, and several of my lovely anons told me they were down to hear about it so here we go
the inspo for this was kind of like a fusion of breaking dawn (yes from twilight) and the underworld movie series. it's a modern setting where the federation is essentially the vampire government. they watch over all known vampire covens to make sure they aren't taking risks that could possibly expose the existence of vampires to the human population. vampire hunting groups that exist, but for the most part they're small and scattered around the world and don't communicate with one another.
something ends up changing though. covens are attacked by strange green creatures that the vampires believe are created by the hunters, but they're not entirely sure where they come from (these are the binary entities). the creatures are incredibly strong and many covens that are attack lose members.
several of the covens attacked have connections with each other. they slowly form a network finding others around the world that were attacked by these strange creatures, and realize they all have one thing in common: only covens with vampire children were attacked.
the federation backs off saying they don't know anything about the creatures, sounds like the vampire hunters are up to something but they stay out of that stuff. it's very strange, so the attacked groups come together to investigate what the hell is attacking their children, and if the federation had anything to do with it. eventually, they declare themselves one giant coven, and the federation doesn't like that.
info about the groups under the cut!
before joining up into one group, the individual covens originally consisted of:
Phil (ancient), Chayanne (roughly 10-11 years old*, turned when he was 5), Wilbur (very new vampire, literally got turned a few months ago by Quackity), Missa (ancient vampire who got stuck at the bottom of a well for three centuries so he's still catching up with stuff)
Jaiden (new vampire, turned 2-3 years earlier by Roier), Roier (turned 5 years prior by Vegetta), Bobby (around 9-10 years old*, turned within the last year by Roier)
Foolish (at least 300 years old, probably older, he changes his age every time someone asks), Vegetta (200 years old), Leo (turned when she was 7ish, is now 9*)
Fit (roughly 150-200 years old), Ramón (8-9ish*, turned when he was 4 not by Fit)
Bad (between 600 and 800 years old), Dapper (11*, got turned when he was 9 by Bad)
The Brazilians: Cellbit (around 200 years old), Felps (50-60ish, turned by Cellbit), Pac and Mike (no one knows how old they are exactly but they're a bit younger than Cellbit. Also no one is sure which one is older but they know one of them turned the other), Forever (werewolf, not a vampire. Doesn't age because he's pack bonded with vampires and is around 90 years old), Richarlyson (8 years old*, turned when he was 4 by Cellbit)
The French: Baghera (130ish, turned by Etoiles), Etoiles (600-700 years old), Aypierre (300ish?), Antoine (100ish, also turned by Etoiles), Pomme (7 years old*, turned within the last few months by Baghera)
Solo vampires not in a coven who get involved anyway:
Quackity (60ish), Max (70s)
Humans
Charlie (24), Mariana (24)
Now if you're wondering where some other eggs are, they have their place either later on in the story or as backstory. These are just what I imagine the groups to be at the start of everything
*Vampire children do age in this world. When a child is turned they continue to age until they reach a point of physical maturity and will stop. This age is different for every individual, but ranges from late teens to early 20s. No one is sure what affects when a vampire child will stop aging, but some theorize a diet of solely animal blood can cause them to stop aging earlier due to a lack of proper nutrients
I have so many notes about this au including backstories for most of the characters and how they all got their children but I don't want to make this insanely long so please send me asks about the groups!! If not I might just make a post talking about the characters in more specific detail but yeah this au is very fun for me to rotate in the brain microwave lol
'(Y/N) is pregnant',
The words echoed throught Choso's mind he couldn't believe it. He didn't want to believe.
He hoped this was a sick joke, a nightmare that he would wake up from, but it wasn't the visible small that was beginning to form was evident.
"Congratulations" was all Choso could muster.
He turned around as swiftly as he had entered and left, as the tears began forming in his lashline.
__________________________________________
You hadn't known you were pregnant.
You swore that you feeling ill in the morning was because of the chia seeds in your breakfast, something new which you had just began eating.
And you being bloated was because of all the milk and honey you had been craving lately.
You were positive you weren't pregnant.
You couldn't be.
But then, one morning while Fujiko was dressing you in your kimono she looked you up and down strangely.
"What is it" you asked as her change in expression was evident.
"Lady (Y/N), have you received your monthly blood?" Fujiko questioned as she starred at your lower abdomen.
"I have not been keeping count since the last one, but I'm sure it shall arrive soon"
Fujiko didn't seem to take these words as enough evidence to crush her hypothesis.
"Lady (Y/N), do you perhaps have any foods you've become fond of recently?"
"Well, I have been enjoying these sunflower seeds that Naoya brings in the evenings" you said thinking about the delectable seeds and how you would break the seed shell to eat the delicious seedling.
"I actually would like some now. Perhaps there is some in the kitchen pantry" you said to Fujiko as you continued to daydream about the seed.
"One last question my lady"
You looked towards her singalling her to ask her question.
"Have you experienced any nauseas, especially in the mornings?"
Without thinking to much about the question you agreed.
"Yes, I have"
Without a moment waste Fujiko moved her hands from the sash of your kimono to your exposed lower abdomen.
You looked at her in bewilderment, you didn't know what had caused this strange behavior, in the usual calm Fujiko.
"Fujiko what are you doin-"
"You're pregnant" she said without any hesitation.
You stood there quietly for a moment, as you slowly tried to process Fujiko's words. You kept repeating it in your mind 'You're pregnant ' until you finally realized what she said.
"It can't be" you said hoping that by some miracle your words would be true.
"It is Lady (Y/N). The last time you bled was ten weeks ago, you're six weeks late, you show symptoms of morning sickness and have cravings. To make it more obvious you have already developed a swelling"
You stood there in shock. You were pregnant. You were carrying Naoya's child, you couldn't believe it; you didn't want to believe it.
"I shall inform Naoya-sama, as soon as possible my Lady" Fujiko said as she did her best to quickly tie your kimono.
"No, it's alright. I shall tell him this evening" you said as your eyes became distant and the tears started falling from your eyes.
You didn't leave your quarters that day, and you had stayed inside that evening. You didn't wish to see anyone. You were relieved that you fell pregnant before the second season but you were pregnant with Naoya's child, the man who couldn't keep a stupid promise.
The evening came to soon and you sat at the chubdai silently eating across from Naoya.
"Husband I wish to tell you something?"
He slowly looked up from his meal.
"Speak as your heart desires my wife" he said as he looked back down to his food, as he began picking up a dumpling.
"I'm pregnant Naoya"
Naoya dropped his chopsticks, as his gazed went back to you and then down to the little bump you were coddling.
"When did you find out?"
"This morning" you said looking down.
Naoya didn't even realize you were pregnant, but the more he thought about it the more clearer the signs became, you constant complaints of looking round, the way you'd search for his sunflower seeds, you rushing to the bathroom when the sun arisen and especially you new desire to be bedded multiple times in one night.
It was as clear as day and yet he missed it  but he didn't care now. He was to happy about the fact that you were pregnant and with his heir.
That's when his cold demeanor shattered; he didn't care anymore if you'd love him less because he wasn't being distant anymore or that him seeming to not be interested in you would get him more of your attention.
He wanted to hold you and kiss you, and that's exactly what he did. Without a minute to spare he forgot about his dinner and quickly stood up approaching you and gently carrying you to your bedroom.
He could see your expression of shock as if he'd gone mad, but he didn't care.
He laid you gently on the bed as if you were a Lilly being placed in water.
He carefully laid beside you, taking you hand in his own and placing it upon your growing child.
"Thank you for bestowing my second greatest blessing upon me"
His words confused you, it was not even a day ago that he didn't care about you and now he was holding you like his life depended on it, was this all because you were pregnant. It probably was, his words swam in your head, this was the second greatest blessing you bestowed upon him.
"Naoya-Sama, what was the first blessing I bestowed upon you?" You asked with much hesitation in your voice.
"You married me"
It felt as if all time had stopped was he actually glad about being married to you, after he made you feel like nothing but an irritation and burden to him.
__________________________________________
That evening Naoya held you close and whispered into your ears about a life, where you'd be by his side till old age and you'd watch your children run around in the courtyard and feed the khoi fish he knew you were fond of.
To you it was a sweet moment that you hoped would be true, but your heart longed for another, a man who was once deemed an honorable Samurai who had the exterior of an emotionless soldier but on the inside was a soft hearted man who found joy in your curiosity of the world and love from you.
__________________________________________
But now you wish it was the prior evening, as Choso stood infront of you as your sick form was being held close to a Naoya. To weak to even stand by yourself let alone push him away.
When Naoya told him you were with child you saw Choso's heart shatter; it wasn't as clear to those who didn't know him as his facial features didn't show his sadness but you could tell by his eyes. They way they dropped to Naoya holding your small bump and back up to you, as his eyes glazed over. That was enough of a sign to you that you'd broken the man's heart.
__________________________________________
The first three months of your pregnancy was filled with you getting morning sickness and odd cravings.
By the fourth month you were glowing. Every kimono looked beautiful on you and every jewel was unmatched of your beauty.
Naoya had been stuck to your side since you had told him of his child. Every council meeting he missed, every task he was given ignored; his father of course overlooked it all as he was happy for his son.
Naobito remembered when he found out that Naoya was growing in his mother, how happy he was, how he'd refuse to do anything and everything that didn't require him to be by his wife's side. Naobito wouldn't say it was because he cared more for his wife rather for the little child growing within.
Naoya liked to think he was different to his father in that sense; Naoya did love you. He was sure of that. He enjoyed being in your company as he watched your child grow within you. He had to admit that being softer and kinder to you brought him more love and affection than his previous strategy to obtain them. Naoya was in pure bliss.
You were content for the time being, you were happy to be receiving such affections from your husband, you had to admit he wasn't that horrible. He was loathsome, irritational, demeaning, somewhat cruel but he was not horrible. Your heart new the truth though, it longed to be with the Samurai. To feel the firm grip of Choso's hand that wielded a katana, the softness of his hair as it tickled your face and the ever bright lights that would be seen shining through his eyes, you craved to have him here to have these moments that were suppose to be pure joy spent with him rather than Naoya.
Choso, however was experiencing the worst four months of his life. You'd tried to see him multiple times to talk to him but he would just ignore you, saying he was asked to do some other duty. Choso felt as if he'd given up everything for nothing. He loved you and now you were pregnant with another man's child. He began to think that this prophecy might have just been a children's story his mother said to him to help him fall asleep.
__________________________________________
It was a cool evening as your fifth month was slowly approaching, the growing dome of your child now present.
You hadn't spoken a full sentence to Choso since that morning he came in to find you with growing life inside.
You hoped that you would be able to speak to him alone, but alas Naoya was always by your side, from stone cold hard to doting father-to-be. At first having Naoya around you all the time was a new feeling and you slowly grew to enjoy it but now by you were extremely overwhelmed by having him around you all day and night seldom leaving your side.
The few times you were alone was when you you'd walk to the dining hall while Naoya attended personal talks with his father that would last no longer than five minutes. During this time you would sometimes see Choso and you would hurriedly walk over to him to try talk to him only for him to excuse himself as he had other duties to attend to. You began to realize that he was actively avoiding you and understood why he would.
But on this cool evening you had decide that enough was enough and you had to speak to him before the sun risen.
You placed your a silk scarf around your shoulder to keep you warm in your thin evening yukata.
You had already informed Naoya earlier that day that you would go for an evening walk to clear your mind for the events that would take place tomorrow, as you would meet with the monk from the zenin temple to discuss the future of your child.
You began walking to the courtyard. You hoped and prayed Choso would be standing there by the pond as he once did awaiting your nightly love making.
You carefully walked passed the hedges trying your best to stay as silent as possible.
"You know Lady (Y/N) from the first day I met you, your skills of silence have not improved much" Choso stated matter of factly.
"Noted" you said with a smile as you walked the rest of the distance to where he stood.
Choso kept his gaze fixed at the moon, as your gaze was fixed on him.
The silence from when you last spoke began to get longer and longer, the tension in the air you could no longer stand and you attempted to break it the same way he did back at the Kamo Estate.
"The fish look fat here, perhaps they are being over fed" you said pointing towards an orange khoi that had stuck its head out for a mere second.
Choso broke his gaze from the evening sky and look down towards what you spoke of.
"Perhaps" is all he said.
"So how have your duties been?" You said before another silence would befall upon you.
"Its been well" He said as his gaze remaind on the khoi pond.
"I thought your duty was to be my guard, I hadn't thought there was others you had as well" you said with a bit of a laugh to keep the mood light.
"Yes, it was my duty to be your personal guard my lady but now Naoya-sama assists your everywhere leaving me useless in that position"
You kept quiet trying to think of what else you could say, but Choso began speaking again.
"I don't blame him. I too, would want to be around the woman I love and our child that grows with in her" his gazed shifted from the pond to your bump.
You watched as his eyes remained on your child for a few minutes before connecting with your eyes, and when you looked into his eyes you saw all the memories you had created with him from the day you tried to get his name to the last night you made love in the very spot the two of you now stood.
And you tried your best to come up with what next to say but your mouth had beat you to it already speaking.
"Choso I'm sorry" you said the tears slowly began to form in your eyes and your voice got caught in your throat.
"I'm so-sorry for e-very-thing. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm sorry Choso. I'm sorr-"
"Do not apologize for things you have no control of" he said meeting you gaze again as his own eyes were filled with tears.
"You could not help falling pregnant, just as much as I could not help falling in love with you"
__________________________________________
You sat quietly in the temple situated on the far right of the zenin estate, as you awaited on the monk who would tell you of his premonitions of your child.
Each second passed slower than the next and your mind began drifting to prior evening....
After Choso's confession you stood there eyes widened and heart beating fast. You knew he had feelings towards you but never thought they would be as strong as love. You didn't know how to act or what to say at his words once again allowing silence to fall upon you but not as long as before.
Choso turned his body towards yours taking your hands in his. He placed a soft kiss upon your lips.
"Even if our fate was not kind enough to let us be together I'm glad I was blessed to meet you my (Y/N)"
"Lady (Y/N)" spoke the monk breaking your daydreaming to last night.
"My deepest apologies for my daydreaming" you said with a slight bow of your head.
"Quite alright my dear, the baby probably keeping you up" the kind old monk said as he looked upon you with a smile.
"Shall we begin" continued the monk as he placed a cup of green tea infront of you.
You carefully blew onto the hot water trying your best to cool it down before you drank it. You took slow sips in hopes to not burn your tongue. When the tea was nearly done you passed the ceramic cup back to the monk.
He began examining the bottom of the mug that contained the leaves.
You watched carefully as he examined the leaves hoping to be able to tell what he would say to you, what he could tell you about your child before they came into the world.
The monk carefully placed the cup on the chubdai to the left of him as he shifted closer towards your.
"May I" he said as he raised his hands towards your face.
He starred deeply into your eyes, his face remained expressionless as his hands then shifted to your bump.
He gently began applying pressure to your bump as he moved his hands around it.
He removed his hands and looked back at the cup and then your bump.
He began to close his eyes, his eyebrows slowly began to crease and the monk opened his eyes.
"From what I have seen, your child is blessed. It shall have be loved by all especially its father, as it will carry on the family name bringing great honour towards it"
You smiled as your hand instinctively went to cradle your bump, as you listen to the monk continue to talk.
"They shall be as honorable as their father and as caring as their mother" the monk continued.
You began imagining how your life would be when you finally were able to meet this child the monk spoke so highly of, how they'd bring so much joy to your life.
"This child shall be known as the great dragon, bringing great successes, having strength of great warrior and wisdom of a nobleman"
"This child - " the monk said as his eyes grew bigger.
You now grew anxious as the monk did not finish his sentence. He now looked at you with an odd expression one which you were unable to decipher.
The monk closed his eyes again.
"I see two lions running towards this child; one whose mane is fully grown and the other whose mane is still in growth. When they reach the child, the child only reaches his hands out to the lion whose mane is still growing"
The monk opened his eyes again and now looked at you with the same face of shock like he could not believe what he had just seen.
You were unsure of what to do next, but you kept quiet hoping the monk would explain what he had just seen.
"The lions in that premonition represents the child's father"
"The lion with the mane represents"
And the monk closed his eyes again.
Happy Birthday Scottish actress Dawn Steele.
Born as Dawn Anne Nolan in Glasgow on December 11th 1975 in Glasgow, the family moved to Milton of Campsie at the foot of the Campsie Fells, north of the city in 1982, she attended nearby Kilsyth High School before going on to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Dawn picked up bit parts in Highlander: The Raven TV series and the film The Debt Collector before getting her big break in the excellent BBC Scotland dram series Tinsel Town, after this she got arguably the part she is best known for as Alexandra “Lexie” MacDonald in Monarch of the Glen. Dawn went on to appear in the paranormal series Sea of Souls before joining the cast of Wild at Heart in series 4 right through to series 7 when it ended.
We next saw Dawn pop up in the brilliant Case Histories, set in Edinburgh before heading back west to join the popular Scottish Soap River City as doctor Annie Jandhu in 2015. Dawn left the show in 2018, citing the travelling was causing her to miss seeing her daughter grow up, she turned 11 this year.
On leaving the show in an interview she said she was open to doing another soap and mentioned Casualty and EastEnders as being attractive possibilities, well Casualty’s “sister” show Holby City came calling and it wasn’t long until she joined the cast of the hospital “soap” as Angel “Ange” Godard, a consultant general surgeon, she has now racked up 128 appearances in the show, which was cancelled and ended in March this year.
Dawn lives with her hubby Paul Blair, in the seaside town of Whitstable on the Kent coast and enjoys swimming regularly in the sea there. She was recently back in Scotland filming the new BBC detective series Granite Harbour, set in Aberdeen, Dawn plays DCI Cora MacMillan. While it was nice to see some shots of Aberdeen I think the show was a bit of a dud, I really can’t see there being a second series, if you are looking for a show like Shetland, this falls way short of that. Unfortunately for Dawn the interior scenes for the show were shot in a Glasgow studio, which left her disappointed that she didn’t get the chance to film in Aberdeen.
“I was quite jealous when everyone else went up, because I love Aberdeen. I rehearsed for a tour of Tutti Frutti at His Majesty’s Theatre and then we opened the show there, so I spent eight weeks in the city. I also filmed a film, Marionette, there, so I got to know it well. It can be so beautiful and it’s nice to see it on the screen again.”
Steele knew from a young age that acting was where her future lay. “I started off with dancing and I was in drama clubs from when I was young. I was part of Kirkintilloch Players from when I was 10 or 11.
However Dawn did say she enjoyed filming in her hometown of Glasgow, taking the opportunity to catch up with friends and family, as well as reconnect with familiar faces within the industry.
“I will always work in Scotland,” she says. “I love it because it is home and I know everyone. It is nice because you walk onto a set and there are so many crew who have been part of your life over the years – our lighting guy Stuart was on Monarch of the Glen with me.”
Of late Dawn was on the TV series Granite Harbour, cop show set in Aberdeen and the latest Shetland series with Ashley Jensen.
shopping trip.
little!jj with emily and garcia !!
a cute ass shopping trip
>2K
Tumblr media
Today was a big day for the iconic trio. Emily and Garcia had promised little JJ a shopping trip for her birthday. Emily knew Garcia was going to spoil the girl to no end and JJ knew it too!
“Let go! We going be late!” JJ cheered, running to the door. She had her backpack on and the fluffiness
of it was bouncing with the girl.
“I’m coming! I’m coming! Have you got everything?” Emily asked the over-excited girl who was bouncing on her tiptoes at the front door.
“Yes! Let goooo!” She swung the front door opened and ran to the car.
“You’ve got to be on your best behaviour!” Emily warned as they pulled up at the shopping centre.
“Yes, Yes, I know! Let go, have fun!” JJ wiggled in her seat, unable to take her belt off herself.
“Do you remember our rules?” Emily asked, just watching her girl get more and more excited. It was cute, she couldn’t deny that but she also knew that if she wasn’t careful, this day could get out of hand.
“Yes! I do mama!” She cheered, wiggling her little legs.
“Tell me then,” Emily was just teasing at this point.
“Alway hold your hand. No wander off. Pay for everyfin. Ask nicey. Blah blah. I know mama!” She said, tilting her head to the side after each one.
“Okay, good girl. Let’s go find Penny then,” Emily smiled. She unclipped JJ’s seatbelt and they both got out of the car. Instantly, Garcia came running over to them and JJ went running to her.
“Penny!” She cheered loudly.
“JJ!” Garcia giggled with the same enthusiasm.
Half an hour later and they were in their third toy shop.
“I have this one tooo?” JJ asked, running up to a giant, pink squish mallow.
“I’m pretty sure you already have that one at home, love,” Emily laughed and looked at the 8 squish mallows Garcia already had in her basket.
“I not mama! We need this one too,” she said, smiling and putting it on top. “Stay,” she told it and began walking away.
“Jay, do you really need any more?” Emily asked, tilting her head to the side at the blonde plodding around the store.
“Yes, I have to get 20!”
“I don’t think you need 20!” Emily laughed. JJ nodded.
“I think I does,” JJ laughed in response, picking up another and putting it in the basket.
“How about just 10 Jay?” Garcia suggested.
“Otay, 10.” JJ nodded and grabbed one more, turning around and looking at the two intently.
“That’s 11,” Emily giggled, pointing at the one in her arms. JJ pouted.
“I get 11,” she nodded.
“Okay, put it in the basket and then we can go buy clothes!” Garcia said, holding out the basket. JJ cheered and put it in, causing Emily to roll her eyes.
“I want dem in allllll the colours,” JJ sighed, holding up all the hangers for the cropped t-shirts.
“Sweetheart, why don’t you just get three?” Emily said, leaning against the wall.
“But there’s six different colours!” JJ whined.
“But you don’t need six, you have plenty at home and we have bought other tops too.”
“But which colours shall I leave out? I no want to leave them out Mama!” JJ huffed. Magically, Garcia appeared.
“Oh my goodness! They are such pretty colours!” Garcia squealed, instantly taking them all off JJ and putting them in the basket. JJ glanced at Emily and then turned to Garcia.
“I no wowed them alllll,” she grumbled a little bit.
“Nonsense, you can never have too many clothes,” Garcia muttered and grabbed JJ’s hand. “Lunchtime ladies?” Emily only nodded and headed out of the changing rooms, seeing the large smile on JJ’s face because she got what she wanted for the fourth time today. Emily wasn’t ungrateful. She loved that JJ was being treated but she didn’t appreciate her being spoiled. Everything she had said no to today or at least suggested a no to, Penelope had gone behind her back and done it anyway. Emily couldn’t massively argue because this was Garcia’s treat for JJ and she was paying for it all but she couldn’t help but feel slightly embarrassed. She didn’t like JJ being bratty or spoilt because it got to her head and she knew, Emily knew, today would end in tears.
“I wan tacos!” JJ cheered, as they headed out the shop.
“Emily doesn’t like tacos, how about something else?” Garcia suggested, feeling sympathetic.
“Noooo! I want tacos, mama go somewhere else,” JJ giggled, pushing at Emily’s chest a little bit. Emily smiled and just hugged JJ, squeezing her, trying not to get frustrated.
“How about we go get tacos and Em goes to get something else and we meet at that table, over there?” Garcia suggested, pointing to a table. JJ nodded happily and just dragged Garcia away, leaving Emily standing there - no idea what she wanted to eat.
“Do you need any more toys?” Emily asked as they approached another toy shop.
“Of course, she needs more toys!” Garcia giggled, swinging her arm with JJ’s.
“Mhm, more toys!” JJ smiled and swung her arm also. Emily could tell she was getting tired now.
“One more toy shop and then it’s home time then,” Emily said.
“So one more toy shop, one more clothes shop, one more shoe shop… one more everything shop and then a jewellery shop!” Garcia giggled. JJ laughed sweetly too, heading over to the toys.
“Two more shops and then we’re done,” Emily said, sternly.
“Em, she loves it!” Garcia argued, pointing to the sweet blonde plodding through the toys.
“She does yes but she’s tired and the longer we stay out, the grumpier she’ll get,” Emily warned.
“She’s not going to get grumpy on a shopping trip!” Garcia tutted, heading to catch up to her little bestie who was picking her fifth Barbie doll of the day.
Two more shops were down and JJ was getting more and more tired. She was rubbing her eyes and she’d started holding Emily’s hand, wanting her home comforts.
“Right! Say goodbye and we’re going to get going!” Emily said, enthusiastically. However, Garcia whined.
“One more! There was this new sweet shop I wanted to go into!” she explained.
“Sweeties!!” JJ gasped, looking between the two older women.
“No, please no more sweets. She’s had enough and we have bags full!” Emily pleaded.
“Mama pleaseeeeee,” JJ whined, tugging on Emily’s arm.
“Emily, pleaseeeeeee,” Garcia mimicked.
“No. You’ve had enough, it’s home time.” Emily said, shaking her head.
“Mamaaaa, I want sweeties!” JJ huffed, stomping her foot.
“And you have some in this bag, you don’t need more. Come on, say goodbye,” Emily encouraged, trying to keep calm.
“You can never have too many sweets,” Garcia teased and Emily sighed.
“Yeah, you can never have too many sweeties,” JJ giggled, shaking her finger at Emily. Emily grabbed her finger and looked her dead in the eye.
“No.”
However, at the simple, two-letter word, JJ’s lip began to wobble.
“Oh come on, no water works. You have sweets, you’re tired. It’s time to go home,” Emily said, wrapping her arm around her young girl.
“Sweeties!” JJ huffed, stomping her foot more. This is what happens when she has been allowed everything she wants all day.
“Oh, how can you say no to that face?” Garcia whined, looking at Emily sadly.
“You have to. Or else you get this every time,” Emily sighed. “You’ve let her have everything she’s asked for all day, even when I said no.” Emily laughed it off a little bit and moved to sit JJ on a nearby bench. She huffed and wiggled as Emily pushed her shoulders down so she sits but eventually let her. Emily bent down in front of her, looking up at JJ’s sad eyes.
“I know you’re tired,” Emily said gently. JJ grumbled in reply. “How about we head home now and then on the way home, you can have some sweets in this bag?” Emily suggested.
“B- but I wan more sweeties from de shop Penny wanted go to,” she mumbled, throwing around her arms and huffing.
“I know but I’ve said no. It’s home time now,” Emily reiterated.
“Why?” She whined loudly.
“Because I’m saying so. I think you’re tired and ready for a nap.”
“I not tired mama,” JJ whispered, shaking her head. “I pomise.”
“Jay,” Emily was sterner now. “Mama has said it’s time to go so it’s time to go. Say goodbye to Penny please,” she said. She stood up as she knew she wasn’t getting anywhere with talking to her.
“Noooo!” JJ whined, throwing back her head. Garcia sighed, looking at the young girl. She was throwing about her hands and she threw herself onto the bench - having a genuine toddler tantrum.
“This, Penelope, is why we don’t spoil her,” Emily sighed. Seeing it now, Garcia did feel bad so she headed over to JJ. She put her hand on her back and bent down to see her crying face.
“You head home now and tomorrow, I’ll bring you some sweets from that shop,” she suggested.
“Pomise?” JJ sniffled.
“I promise baby, do you want to give me a goodbye cuddle?” JJ nodded and sat up softly. She wiped her eyes and then wrapped her arms around Garcia.
“An a goodbye kiss,” she mumbled, pursing her lips. Penelope smiled and kisses JJ’s lips innocently and JJ turned to Emily.
“You ready now grumpy bum?” Emily teased, holding her hand out for JJ. JJ just glared at her before taking her hand and then leaned in for a side cuddle.
“Bye Pen, see you tomorrow. Thank you for a good day,” Emily said, waving at Penelope. “Have you said thank you?” She reminded JJ. JJ quickly shook her head and ran back to give Garcia another hug.
“Than’ you, you the bestest ever!” she whispered and squeezed her tight before heading back to Emily.
The car journey home was very quiet because JJ was asleep before they’d even left the car park. It didn’t surprise Emily, she knew it was going to happen.
She had had a good day, she really had. She’s glad JJ enjoyed herself and she knew she deserved such a good gift because she’d been really well-behaved recently - it just sometimes went too far. But not every day was going to be perfect with a toddler and Emily knew that. She was just glad it was all under control now.
Melted Chocolate
Chapter 1
It's amazing how it only took minutes to ruin everything you built up from years of self-sacrifice. By sacrifice, I mean working two jobs to support both you and your fiance Keigo. Keigo graduated from U.A. Academy but, really didn’t have the drive to work and you as a loving partner decided to support him. You always that maybe, just maybe he was going through a funk. After all, every loving couple would stick through thick and thin. Just a few minutes your world came tumbling down like a wine glass about to hit the marble tiled floor. You like a dummy thought that Keigo was loyal, after all, hawks mate for life well, at least that's what Keigo drilled into your very mind and soul. It took just a few minutes to be broken. You were in a coffee shop waiting for your fiance. While drinking your coffee your cell phone vibrated. You saw that it was from Keigo so you answered it. All you heard was background noise and thought he must have butt-dialed. You were about to hang up but heard Keigo’s voice while he was having a conversation after all why not be a little nosy? “Do you have to leave Keigo?” a familiar female voice rang out. “Yeah, I’m going to be late babe,” he said. “Just tell her…she’s going to eventually catch us…might as well tell her and save us from drama she is going to cause…ugh,” the female voice groaned out of frustration. “No, I can’t live without her…she supports me financially,” he answered back. You heard a little giggling coming from this female's voice. “I don't see why you're keeping her in the dark…you’re working already”. Hand covering your mouth in shock that you found out that he was cheating on you and had a job, so…where was all his money going to? Frustrated and hurt you quickly got up, you felt so nauseated that you wanted to vomit. You took a look at the Valentine's gift you so lovingly purchased for Keigo, gave it to an unsuspecting man that was waiting for his coffee and wished him a happy Valentine’s, and left the coffee shop promptly. You finally made it home when you received a text from Keigo. You couldn’t bare to even look at your phone let alone answer it but it kept on pinging. Rolling your now tear-filled eyes you had to answer it.
Keigo 11:00 am: Where are you, baby?
Keigo 11:10 am: Why aren’t you answering?
Y/n 11:11 am: CHEATER
Keigo 11:12 am: what?
Y/n 11:13 am: you know exactly what I said!
Keigo 11:14 am: oh baby bird…
Y/n 11:14 am: FUCK YOU IT'S OVER!!!
Keigo 11:15 am: I'm on my way open the door so we can talk about it.
Dreading Keigo to come over you turned on the television to try to ignore Keigo’s knocking. He knocked so much you finally answered through the door. “Keigo, leave me alone…I don’t want to do this anymore,” you stated through the door. Pounding on the door “Baby, it’s Valentine’s day …I miss you…she doesn’t mean shit to me…I can’t live without you,” he talked through the door. “I…I can’t anymore…I should’ve known…shit…I knew that you were in love with her the moment I met you…but like a dumbass I still pursued you…FUCK…I’m stupid,” you sobbed while sliding down the wall. “Let me in y/n…please…I need you,” Keigo cried out. “No, no, you don’t need me Keigo…you just wanted the security of me Keigo plus, you have that hero job you so secretly hid from me…now leave me in peace you got your fill…now leave me the fuck alone,” you whispered while burying your face on the pillow. “So, that’s how you knew…it doesn’t matter…I know I messed up and I hurt you way too many times y/n, but you hurt me too,” he replied. “How did I hurt you?!” you answered in anger you couldn’t believe he was trying to blame me for not keeping his dick in his pants. “You were always working, you never had time for me,” he answered back. “I was working for us asshole, we needed to live and you weren’t working, you turned down so many hero jobs and we need the money so who else was going to support you?” you yelled. There was a very long pause then you added “Now, that I found out that you have a job what are you here for?” you whispered. “If you don’t leave I will call the police on you, I’ll pack your stuff and you can collect it tomorrow” you added. “I can’t believe he’s justifying what he did to me, he’s the one who didn’t want to work, that lazy son of a bitch. cheater,” you mumbled while getting up from the floor you dragged yourself to the once shared bedroom and closed the door wishing he would go away. You were so emotionally exhausted with him. You just didn’t have any fight left.
That afternoon it took three hours and threats of the police being called for him to leave your front door. You packed all of his stuff and neatly stacked the boxes and left so you won't have to hear him. Life went on except you kept on bumping into Keigo constantly. Ignoring him you got on with your life even applying for lucrative jobs in America and you so happened to get a job offer from a prestigious company. You had to play it cool so no one could find out and by extension, Keigo. He was always around when you go to the store, he is standing at the register buying milk, when you go to the movies, he’s right there watching the latest premiere. You even went back into the dating pool hoping you could meet some interesting people after all you were a single person. you were hitting it off on the phone but when it was time to meet in person you were consistently being stood up. Until one day you wanted to meet this interesting man in a public place when you stumbled upon him being threatened by who else. Keigo. You had enough of his shit so you confronted him. “What the fuck is your problem?” you questioned. “Nothing is my problem baby, I want you back,” he smirked. “We will never be together…it’s over now leave me alone,” you stated. “That’s the thing babe, I can’t leave you alone,” he whispered while you walked away too bad you didn’t catch what he said.
That was 2 months ago and ever since then, he’s been sabotaging anyone who wants a relationship with you. You walked back to your home feeling so dejected and lost in your thoughts that you didn’t realize your phone rang, finally noticing it you answered, it was an unknown caller id. “Hello?” you answered. “Hey, my lover…what are you doing?” Keigo replied. “Leave me alone, Keigo, I have no damn time for this” you sighed. “Here’s the thing, lover…I can’t…and deep down inside you can’t either,” Keigo stated. “Your delusional Keigo…you seriously need help,” you rolled your eyes trying to find the keys to your home. “I’m hanging up now…bye,” you added then hung upon him. He flew to her window seeing those moving boxes and one box had a shipping label going to America, he sighed, and put his phone in his pocket when his heart started to beat furiously in his chest a sudden realization that he will no longer be in the same country as he sent him over the edge. “I guess I’m going to have to prove to her that I cannot be rejected,” Keigo said. Walking in your house you felt a sense of security because you never know when or where you would ‘accidentally’ bump into Keigo. It’s okay…only 2 more weeks of this and you will be gone. You were moving abroad but, you made sure nobody knew in hopes that Keigo wouldn’t find out, and if he did you would be far, far away from here anyway. Closing the door behind you, you sighed and walked to your bedroom. Taking off your clothes you heard a knock on the door. You quickly got changed and opened the door. It was Keigo right when you were going to close the door he barged in. “Get out Keigo!” you yelled. Slamming the door behind him and locking it. That sent you into a panic, you were scared you took a step back and another until you ran to your room. He happens to be way faster than you and was on top of you. “Get off of me Keigo,” you struggled. “No. Not until you listen to what I have to say to you” He said while holding your struggling body very tight.  “Oh kami…your body is so soft baby…mmm,” Keigo was snaking his hand under your skirt. “I want you…and to prove to you how much I love and want you in my life…I’m going to get you pregnant with my baby, what a hell of a nice Valentine’s gift…right?” he whispered while hooking his fingers in the rim of your panties, pulling them down. You tried to break free from his grip but his wings caged you into a cocoon. “Ah, ah, ah…I know that my gift is a little late but, hey what can I say….oh by the way lover you're not going anywhere…not even to America,” he whispered and you paused in shock because how could he possibly know that you were moving abroad? He knew that he got you right there. “That’s it…that’s it…submit to me baby…I’ll take good care of you,” was the last thing you heard when you felt a sharp prick enter your neck, your whole body started to go limp, you were fighting it. Then it went all black. It was easy for him to carry your body out of the apartment and flew to the place where he had moved in a couple of months ago. Keigo is a hawk so he loves high places so his penthouse was on the 25th floor of this high-end luxury apartment building. That money he made from his job he secretly stashed away that's why he could afford the apartment. But it was kind of bare but, that’s alright he will gladly decorate his love nest to your liking starting with the moving boxes that you so conveniently packed for him.
Waking up feeling like you've been hit by a semi-truck, your head hurts, you opened your eyes and look at your unfamiliar environment, finding your legs propped up on his bed. Keigo’s scent was all over the place and all over you, you felt something wet, and slimy dripping down your ass and immediately knew what it was. It was Keigo’s cum. “Good morning my sweetness…did you sleep well? I should hope so, considering we had one hell of a night making love -rape- to one another,” he smiled sweetly at you. In shock, you tried to get up but to no avail, the sedative was still evident in your system, you were struggling to get up. “Fuck…the way your pussy responded to me…you were born for me,” he cheerfully said while placing a bowl of cereal on the nightstand by you. “You raped me!” you sobbed out of anger. “I didn’t rape you, sweetie…I made love to you…you were moaning and your body was responding to me very well might I add,” he smiled. “Just because my body responded doesn’t mean that you didn’t rape me any less you fucking asshole!” you yelled at him. You tried scooting yourself into a ball away from him but, he wouldn’t let you. “I think it's time to make love to you again…I don’t want you to be empty after all,” he smirked. “No, no…please…I don’t wanna,” you were interrupted by your captor. “Shh, shh, shh…I need to do it, baby…how else can we get pregnant? silly,” he gleefully said to you. Thoughts raced through your head is he actually trying to get you pregnant why can't he get Miruko pregnant instead?
Getting on top of your already naked body, he aligned his cock with your already cum soaked pussy, and pushed himself into you. Wide-eyed you swung your head back onto your pillow. “See I told you…you were born to be mine,” he moaned out in pleasure. Thump, thump, press, thump, thump, press was the rhythm of the violation. Thump, thump, press was all through your being. The pace was picking up, and his guttural moans vibrated through your ear. The squelching sounds and the slapping of flesh reverberated throughout the bedroom. The morning came fast and you were in a pure state of bliss because it was over. The sexual violation was over with or so you thought. That morning you were violated over and over again to assure him that you guys possibly conceived his child. The smell of Hawk’s cologne and sex permeated the air, it was nauseating. Upon finishing the sex session he sniffed your scent, smirking, and for some reason, he felt exhilarated the smell of you always exhilarated him. A couple of months in captivity your scent shifted drastically. Walking cheerfully Keigo stated with so much gusto “We did it, baby… you're going to have my baby, but, we need to confirm” He wanted to give you a pregnancy test right away but he knew that it would take at least a month for the hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin: a hormone that is detected when pregnant) his bird instincts knew that you were pregnant. And, sure enough, the test became positive a sudden dream washed all over your body.
After two weeks in captivity, you began to feel like you would never get out of Keigo’s grasp. You sat on the bed thinking about a couple of days after Keigo took you he was acting like you guys were a normal couple for example he was asking about the color schemes to the bedroom -prison cell-. Every night you prayed for a reprieve from Keigo’s sexual advances and every night those prayers went unanswered. He constantly kept on touching you. Even during your menstruation when you felt the most uncomfortable he kept on fucking you. And when you were a little late on your period Keigo forced you to take a pregnancy test. And trust me Keigo always kept track of your monthly not giving a damn if you were on your period or not he will feel you. “So what if there is some blood on my cock, it's your blood, and that's all that matters…it still feels good,” he always said to you.
When Keigo learned that you were pregnant that's when his bird instinct kicked in and he built you a nest the bed he -raped- shared was turned into a mountain of fuzzy, plushie things. Pillows and blankets were splayed all over the bedroom. “Keigo…I don’t want this baby,” you whispered. “Well, you’ll learn to love our child,” he smiled. “Keigo…why? You don’t even love me…you love Miruko,” you cried out. The stress was too much for you to handle while pregnant. You quickly stood up from the bed and walked to the bathroom when you felt a very sharp pain in your pelvis. The pain was so debilitating that you almost collapsed from your standing position. A sudden gush of blood ran down your legs and a throbbing pain went to your vagina, every throb you felt a gush of blood followed after. You started to collapse when you tried to hold on to something stable before everything went hazy. Keigo smelt the blood, wide-eyed he noticed more blood dripping down. He felt guilty for a bit for getting you to the point of stress to cause you to lose his child. “Keigo,” you whispered, then fainted hitting your head on the cold marble bathroom floor. Keigo rushed to your side, and picked you up feeling horribly guilty for not catching you on time, he then laid you on the bed, then phoned an underground doctor. The doctor came, performed a D&C on y/n, and informed Keigo that he was sorry for his loss of the baby. Keigo clenched his fist, tears rimming his eyes, he quickly left the room to sob in the bathroom when he saw gray tissue in the D&C suction catch bucket. After the doctor left Keigo took some cleaning fluid, water, and a mop, and he started to mop the somewhat dried blood on the tile floor only scraping the area that already dried over. The mop water began to have a tinge of pink to a brown due to the bleach he was using from the blood you had lost during the miscarriage. “Don’t be sad buttercup, we'll try again…but for now just get some sleep,” he mumbled to himself while ringing out the mop. He knew that you were still unconscious because the doctor had injected you with some sedatives. The smell of bleach, pine-sol, and copper mixed around the master bathroom, and the sound of sniffling echoed through the big bathroom. Once he had finished he came to you with a warm bowl of water and a washcloth, he pulled your panties down ever so gently, cleaned you up, and tucked a feminine napkin into your clean panties. He noticed droplets of water dripping down your thighs. It was him. He finally felt the loss of life he and you created. He went to his side of the bed and opened the nightstand drawer revealing a pack of cigarettes. He swore that he quit those things and he succeeded but, he needed one for this sad occasion. He made sure to open the balcony door so that way you wouldn’t smell the tobacco smoke wafting through the whole flat causing you to wake up because he knew you needed to rest after this big ordeal. Waking up to the smell of stale cigarette smoke and pine-sol you scooted up in a sitting position, pelvis still sore from the miscarriage and you whispered. “Keigo,” was all you could whisper in the darkness of night. “I’m here buttercup, do you need anything?” he choked up trying not to sound like he was crying but, didn’t succeed. “Did we?” you whisper. “Yes,” was all Keigo could muster to keep from crying in front of you. “Oh…I,” you couldn’t finish when Keigo said “Baby…please not now,” with a broken voice.
Pairing: Female OC x Levi Ackerman
Tropes: Instructor x Cadet, Strangers to Lovers, Male MC falls first
Warnings: angst/slow-burn, strong language, upcoming smut(18+ readers only for those chapters pls 🙈), physical assault/violence, mentions of scars
Brief Summary: This story takes place a few years after the Fall of Shiganshina. Devon Alba is in her final year of the 101st Training Corps (844-847), due to her success as a cadet she gets the chance to meet Captain Levi. She doesn’t think too much of him until he catches her in the midst of doing something that she isn’t entirely supposed to be doing. But surprisingly, this leads to something unexpected...
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5 | Chapter 6 | Chapter 7 | Chapter 8 | Chapter 9 | Chapter 10 | Chapter 11
Devon ran to the training field—running late as per usual. She ran to stand near the far end of the lined up cadets.
“Hey-“ someone grabbed her elbow and spun her around.
She was met with Keith’s eager gaze, “What’d she say?”
She blinked, “Huh?”
“Imada. Yesterday. We let you walk her home by yourself so you could ask her about Monty.”
Her eyes widened. She’d completely forgotten.
“Fuck.” she muttered.
Keith’s hazel eyes scanned her face, “What?”
“I forgot.”
“What do you mean you forgot? Monty wasn’t able to get an ounce of sleep last night cause he was that fuckin’ anxious-and you just-forgot?”
She almost laughed but bit it back, “Listen, it’s not like I forgot on purpose.”
A glimmer of humor entered his gaze when he caught her laugh.
“Wow. Just wow,” he shook his head, “Not you laughing at him when he literally looks like a raccoon.”
“Maybe you should ask your Mom to make him a remedy.”
“Funny you say that because that’s her next project.”
She then asked, “Where are they?”
“He’s at the front with Imada. I came to the back of the group to catch you first cuz I knew your ass was gonna be late.”
He leaned in to whisper in her ear, “You know Imada asked him why he looked so tired. I almost lost it.”
She covered her mouth to stop herself from laughing too loud. Keith watched her with a smirk.
“Cadets!” Chief Shadis’s voice suddenly boomed. “Today's training is…”
She momentarily zoned out when her eyes scanned around Chief Shadis for a short, black-haired male.
He was nowhere in sight.
She exhaled—attempting to brush off the fleeting sinking feeling that’d originated somewhere within her.
Don’t be ridiculous.
She shook her head, drawing her focus back to Chief Shadis’s sternly spoken instructions.
Devon walked out the classroom with a sheet of paper in her hand. Monty was already waiting out the door.
She grasped his arm excitedly, “Monty-I got a hundred!”
For someone like Monty, hundreds were nothing new. He excelled in the educational side of being a cadet whilst Devon wasn’t exactly the most stellar student-in that department.
Monty slipped the paper out of her hands, “Look at that. Told you my lessons would pay off.”
Suddenly someone shouldered past Devon from behind-a sneer leaving their lips.
Devon glanced over to see it was Carter. He’d been in her class as well—and from the looks of it, he didn’t receive a hundred.
“What the hell-“ Monty started but Devon placed her hand on his chest.
“Forget it. If he wants to be a bitter baby then that’s his problem.” she rolled her eyes.
Ever since she’d beat him at their hand to hand combat session he seemed to go out of his way to be an inconvenience to her. Dirty looks in the hallway. Finding garbage on her seat. Clothes going missing in the laundry room.
It was all so stupidly petty and beneath her.
But she’d be lying if she said it didn’t tick her off. As much as having an outburst would quell her urge to confront him, she wanted to make him pay another way. A way that would give her more satisfaction.
She just wanted to see him suffer on Rank Day.
Monty sighed, “You're more patient than me.”
“I’m…playing the long game.”
“Yeah, how so?”
“I would tell you but I kinda want you to see it when it happens.”
“Well now I have to know.”
“Nahh. I promise it’ll be worth the wait.”
Monty looked at her-calcutively, “Fine. But you better let me know when it happens.”
“I will.” she promised.
“Umm-“
“Listen-“ they both started.
They both laughed.
Devon spoke first, “I know you're gonna ask if I talked to Imada-and Keith probably told you this-but I actually forgot. I know that sounds stupid but I actually did. I promise I’ll talk-“
“No, don’t worry. That’s completely fine. More than fine.” he said.
His voice dropped an octave lower as they walked back to the barracks.
“Look, I know you and Keith both think I should tell her but I honestly don’t want to yet. Let’s be real, if she did like me she would’ve told you by now. We’ve been friends for almost three years so-“
“But-“ Devon argued.
Suddenly Monty spoke fast, “I don’t want to lose her, okay?”
Devon’s eyes widened as she saw him hesitate. She could see his franticness peek through his calm facade when he ran a hand through his curly brown hair.
She stood in front of him fully astonished. Looking at him now she realized just how deep his feelings ran. He was clearly struggling with this more than he was letting on. She suddenly felt bad for laughing about his ‘dark circles’ with Keith the other day.
“She hasn't told me what corps she wants to get into yet so I don’t know how much longer I have with her. If we both choose differently then I most likely won’t get to see her again. I don’t want our limited days to get wasted by her getting awkward with me because she found out I like her.”
Devon stared at him-unable to form words. She could see the desperation in his amber eyes before he looked down in embarrassment.
“If I can’t be her man then I want to-at least-be her best friend as long as I can.”
Devon swallowed, “So you're never gonna tell her?”
Monty looked up again, shrugging, “If an opportunity arises maybe but…”
Most likely not.
She didn’t need to hear him say the rest of the sentence out loud.
To be honest, he did have a fair point. They all had been friends for about three years now. Imada wasn’t shy about pointing out cute guys to her but that’s all she ever did-point them out. She never hit on anyone. But she did expect that if Imada did have a crush on Monty, she would’ve told her by now.
But everyone has their secrets don’t they? The tiny voice in the back of her head nagged.
She sighed before pulling Monty into a hug. He didn’t return it just yet.
“Does Keith know?” her voice muffled as she spoke into his shirt.
“Wha-“ he paused, “No.”
She already knew Keith would freak out if he realized Monty never planned on telling Imada. But at the end of the day, it was Monty’s decision to make.
Monty sounded exasperated, “He’s not gon-“
“I know,” she said, still speaking into his chest, “We’ll just have to shut him up somehow.”
Monty chuckled before returning the hug. Squeezing her hard enough to make her squeal.
She tapped his arm hastily, “I’m out, I’m out, I’m out.” She jokingly said the words cadets were supposed to say once they were down in physical combat.
He laughed before releasing her.
My night was awful. It started out Okay; i was at my grandma's apartment to see my dad and we played some games. Came home to mom's car not being in it's spot. My brothers and I assume she went to go run an errand, so we go inside, find her boyfriend, and unwind from being out all day. I was dealing with friend drama at that point too.
Half an hour later my mom calls me and tells me what to make for dinner, because she's out at a local "Social club" (Bar, but members only) with a friend. I think, "Great, maybe she wont drink though. She's been going sometimes and only having one".
7:30 passes. At 8 my brother asks me when we should make dinner, neither of us are hungry so we postpone.
8:30 passes, we make dinner because it's getting late. While we're making the food, friend drama dies off and they start joking around in the gc -all good and at that point i was ready to have a relaxing end of the evening.
9:30 passes. My friend moves a virtual birthday party for an acquaintance up half an hour (10) so i get started doing dishes. While im getting ready to do them, i start hearing noises and voices in the "back room" (small room at the back of the house that has the back back door, connected to the kitchen through another door) but no one's coming in. I cant tell if they're crying, laughing or just talking, but someone kept leaning on the door. I waited.
9:45 my mom opens the door and stumbles in; i immediately notice she. is. drunk. Her face is flushed, she was having trouble walking in the door, and she was slurring her words. I dont remember what the first thing she said was, but shortly after her friend also walks in. Her friend was tall (pretty) and significantly less drunk, i dont even know if she was tipsy. But it was a bit of a relief she was here too. My mom went upstairs -struggling- her friend followed a minute after. They came back down after my mom gave her a tour of the house, and then they went to the backroom to talk.
So far, so good right?
I was still uncomfortable so i finish dishes and other night-time responsibilities (Feeding the rabbits and refilling their water), then take my computer and phone to my room to camp out till morning (and for the birthday call).
Sometime during beginning of the call (10:15ish?) i start to hear arguing downstairs. Now, my room is above the kitchen, i have a "back room" to my room and i can usually hear when people are arguing in that room, from p much anywhere in my room. Sound carries. I couldnt make out everything they were saying, but it was b a d , and at one point my mom came inside the house shouting, and up the stairs shouting, and slammed doors so hard it shook the walls of my room, "[friend's name] Fuck you, [boyfriend's name] Fuck you. FUCK ALL OF YOU". My friends on call all heard it.
So im trying not to have a panic attack while getting a link for everyone to watch the movie Birthday boy picked out, and while we watch the movie the argument is still going but downstairs or in mom's room i dont remember. I had one earmuff off on my headphones so i can listen if she starts coming to my room for an argument, i pulled up an audio recording app just in case, because at this point I'm scared of a repeat of 21st of last month.
At some point it dies down, my mom left briefly, came back and was still pissed off but not slamming doors, just muttering things i didnt make out. She never came to my room because i wasnt supposed to have my computer in my room past 11 (it died at 11:20 anyway, in the middle of the movie, sad) nor am i supposed to have my phone there ever (she never notices, im about to be 18 anyway, my mom stopped caring with my older brother when he turned 18).
I stayed in my room the whole night, door closed. I dont close my door unless im doing....things, or unless im scared of what's on the outside of my room. But this causes problems in the summer and winter because my room isnt temperature controlled; the backroom to my room is unfinished, theres a crack in the side wall and a big gap in the door going to it. Heating doesnt go to my room, so closing the door = closing out all the nice warm air. I was cold.
I also was supposed to clean the bathroom last night. I was going to do it after dishes and before going to the virtual party, but my brother got shouted at for opening the back room door while my mom was in it (He was trying to take out the trash), and i didnt want to have to deal with her drunk ass while asking if anyone needed to use the restroom before it gets taken over for 30 mins to get cleaned.
So yeah i had a bad night. Im exhausted, i was exhausted before the shit with my mom happened, Im exhausted after having a small panic attack, Im exhausted from trying to figure out what room my mom was in, I'm exhausted from holding my pee all night because i was scared i'd run into her, Im fucking. exhausted.
CHAPTER 11
"...!!"
Futaba : (!!!)
When Futaba noticed that the mysterious entity heard the sound of a branch breaking, she ran and hid behind the bushes, wrapping her hand around her mouth tightly so as not to make any sound by mistake.
Futaba : (Damn it, it noticed me! What do I do now? I won't be able to call Nachi or the others in time, I'll be in trouble if I'm found!!)
She kept putting pressure on herself by overthinking what would happen next after the entity noticed her there.
Futaba : "...?"
Futaba kept waiting for them to arrive but it never showed up before her...nothing happened...
Futaba : "Huh...?"
After her nerves calmed down a bit, she decided to come out of her hiding place and explore, only to be surprised that the place was completely empty.
Futaba : (Gone, the entity who banished the Wraith is gone.)
Futaba came out completely from her hiding place and kept looking around for any trace of them, but to no avail.
Futaba : “How...how did it leave so suddenly? It didn't even make a single sound, I couldn't even feel it leaving…”
She was still looking around in terror while she was standing in the middle until she noticed something.
Futaba : "Sand...?"
She found a bunch sand under her feet, since the place was surrounded by grass from every direction, there would be no chance of sand in it, which led her to remember something
'Ginnojo : "It was sand, a big bunch of it all in one place, that was the only thing that kind of caught my eye."
Ginnojo mentioned something about a mysterious bunch of sand that appeared out of nowhere in the tower, so she gets down on her knee to check what she found. It appears to be an ordinary sand, the mysterious thing lies in its sudden appearance, and where exactly did it come from? Futaba starts touching it carefully, even though it's just a plain sand.
Futaba : "Or maybe I'm overthinking too much."
Futaba says and sighs with relief, but her relief was short-lived, as a large hand lands on her shoulder and makes her jump in terror so she turns quickly but sighs with relief again.
Tatsuomi : "What on earth are you doing here this late at night?"
Tatsuomi said in a scolding tone, looking at his childhood friend with a sharp but concerned look at the same time. Tatsuomi was on a special patrol at this hour and finding Futaba here was quite a coincidence.
Futaba : "Tatsu...I, I was uh..."
Tatsuomi : "No, don't tell me. Come on, I'll walk you home, it's still too dangerous for you to be here given the current situation."
Tatsuomi is still stern, acting like a big brother to Futaba even though Futaba is an onmyouji and she isn't that young anymore. However, what Futaba witnessed hasn't left her mind and the identity of that entity is still completely unknown.
...On their way back...
Tatsuomi : "So you think the perpetrator is some kind of Ayakashi?"
Futaba : "Yeah, no other creature can cause such a mess than an Ayakashi...I just want to know why?"
Tatsuomi : "The imperial army began to investigate the matter and find out the reason, most of them unanimously agreed that the reason lies behind the return of the 'Red Eye Demon' incident as in the past, but... we have received reports confirming that some soldiers met the same fate as ordinary civilians."
Futaba : "What?!"
Futaba's eyes widen at this and Tatsuomi notices and begins to feel awkward about his choice of words.
Tatsuomi : "Uh...sorry, I'm sorry, maybe...I shouldn't have told you this..."
Futaba : "No not at all. Say Tatsu, did they find or glimpse anything before this happened to them?"
Tatsuomi : "Hmm...now that you've mentioned it, the reports told us of strange things the soldiers witnessed before they collapsed. It was reported that they saw tall men, walking around in designated places, randomly throwing something out of the palm of their hand. Their objective wasn't understood at the time, but maybe they were fighting something hidden?"
Futaba : (it's just like what Kuya recalled that day, when he saw something similar near the Shinobazu bond, a tall figure holding a ball and throwing it into the wraith, aiming to banish it.)
Here Futaba made sure that what Kuya saw and what she saw were the same, as well as with regard to the actions and the result is the same, which is the banishment of the Wraith.
Futaba : (But why? Why are the Wraiths and civilians being targeted together? What is their endeavor?)
These questions continued to circulate in Futaba's mind, and she didn't notice because of them that she had reached the door of her house. She finally arrived and bid farewell to Tatsuomi heading inside, but that scene was still engraved in her memories.
...The next day...
Nachi : "What?! You left without telling me?!"
Nachi shouted at Futaba as if he was scolding her. After much thought, Futaba decided to tell Nachi what had happened last night, that she was close to that unknown ayakashi and it was about to reveal her existence.
Futaba : “Yeah, I really do apologise Nachi, but it was late and I didn’t want to wake you up—”
Nachi : “What if that monster found you? What if- what if you get hurt and end up like the rest of the victims?!”
Nachi is still angry that she went out at night without him knowing, and it took Futaba a long time to calm him down and tell him the whole story.
Futaba : "As I told you, it almost caught me but suddenly disappeared from the place, instead, I found sand, just like what happened with Ginnojo."
Nachi : "What's with that strange sand?"
Futaba : "I don't know, Tatsu found me there and brought me home, but he told me something really interesting."
Nachi : "Really? What is it?"
Nachi said excitedly but Futaba nodded dismissively.
Futaba : "It would be better if I spoke the details to the whole team, they have the rights to know what I discovered, too.”
Nachi : “Ahhh come on, suddenly I'm curious to know what you heard...”
Nachi grumbled, and then they heard a knock on the door.
Nachi : “That must be the ogre.”
Nachi said bored and decided to go open the door.
Nachi : “What is it, Ogre-face--”
“Little Nach!!”
Before he could finish speaking, he had two short arms around him and looked like a hug.
Nachi : "F-Fukajiro?"
No one but Fukajiro was the only one who'd call Nachi with that nickname, she hugged him tightly, not willing to let him go.
Futaba : "Oh Fukajiro, welcome."
Said Futaba, naturally welcoming her little friend who was still hugging Nachi.
Fukajiro : "Hi Futaba, I was thinking of having a stroll around town a bit since it's a day off, I was looking forward on spending more time with you and my little Nach."
Fukajiro said and started squeezing Nachi hard.
Nachi : "Okay, but can you stop hugging me? I can't breathe!!"
Nachi said as if he was dying, so Fukajiro quickly let him go.
Fukajiro : "Oh, sorry...Well, let's go."
Fukajiro said and ran towards Futaba taking her hand pulling it.
Futaba : "..."
Futaba seemed hesitant about her invitation, as she wanted to go see her ayakashi friends and update them on the case, but Fukajiro suddenly appeared and seemed that she ruined Futaba's plans. On the other hand, Fukajiro is still new to the capital and doesn't know much and she has made friends with Futaba and Nachi...Futaba sighed a little and looked at Fukajiro smiling.
Futaba : "Alright, as you wish."
Fukajiro : "Great!!"
Nachi : "But...Futaba, what about..."
Futaba : "This can wait for later, Nachi."
She told Nachi and Fukajiro still pulling Futaba's hand.
Fukajiro : "Let's go, little Nach."
Nachi never hesitated and decided to join them. He took the form of a cat and rode over Futaba's shoulder as usual.
...
Fukajiro : "Why are you still walking around in your cat form little Nach? Nobody will suspect you if you're in your human form you know.”
Fukajiro said whispering to Nachi who is sitting on Futaba's shoulder.
Nachi : “If someone attacks Futaba, I will surprise them and attack them with my claws.”
Futaba : "Other than that, he gets too lazy to walk, so he takes the form of a cat to sit on my shoulder."
Fukajiro : “Is that so?”
Fukajiro said sarcastically and started giggling.
Nachi : *HSSSS!!!*
So Nachi hissed in his cat's voice, indicating his opposition to what was said about him. The three continued to roam around the neighborhood as if they were wandering for the first time…
"Other victims...?"
Someone said, close to Futaba's ears, causing her to stop.
Nachi : "What's the matter, Futaba?"
Futaba did not answer and continued to listen.
"I don't know what's the government doing? Why don't they act about this?"
Another man said and it seems that he was annoyed by what was happening. Of course, the townspeople are certainly upset about the current situation, it wasn't long before they were relieved from the issue of the Red-eyes Demon, but another matter came to them. And they had put their hopes on the government to do something but there was no result.
Futaba : (This is what I meant by my words. After what I faced and witnessed, I saw in myself the ability to do something about this case.)
She remained herself silently listening to the residents' complaints and concerns, trying to analyze their words and find a solution.
"Futaba."
A familiar voice called Futaba and turned.
Futaba : "Tatsu, I didn't expect you to be here!"
Futaba said excitedly remembering that last night when Tatsuomi found her near the river bank. Surprisingly, he wasn't alone ; Akiyasu is with him, with those cold features on his face.
Futaba : "I don't usually see you two together."
Tatsuomi : "Akiyasu heard about what was going on so I asked him for help, maybe he knows something."
Tatsuomi answered, patting Akiyasu's shoulder but Akiyasu looked at him from the edge of his eye and shrugged, as if he didn't care, but before they could finish their speech...
Fukajiro : "Futaba!! There's a Taiyaki shop that just opened, can we go there please?"
Fukajiro called her friend and held her hand excitedly, not paying any attention to those standing in front of her until after a short time and the enthusiasm face in her disappeared just like she did when she first met Koga and Kuya.
Futaba : “Oh...these two, this is my childhood friend Tatsuomi and...Akiyasu, well...”
Futaba didn't finish introducing the two guys to her because she found that Fukajiro was staring at them as usual, especially Akiyasu.
Akiyasu : "What?”
Futaba : “Fukajiro, how many times have I told you not to stare at people like that?!”
Futaba scolded her as usual but Fukajiro didn't respond, her stare at Akiyasu started to wane but she showed a small smile.
Fukajiro : "You look smart."
She said to Akiyasu with a small smile. Akiyasu was surprised by this little girl's words but he didn't say another word about it ignoring her.
Tatsuomi : "I understand that you are a friend of Futaba, am I right?"
Fukajiro : "Her best friend."
Tatsuomi : "Haha, is that so?"
Tatsuomi laughs at the innocence of her answer, but that didn't stop her from continuing to stare at Akiyasu.
Futaba : "Fukajiro, I told you many times, stop staring!"
Tatsuomi : "You mentioned something about a new Taiyaki shop right? How about I take you there myself?"
Tatsuomi says, trying to change the subject, and Fukajiro looks at him with excited eyes.
Fukajiro : "Really? Thank you Mr. Tatsuomi!"
Tatsuomi and Fukajiro, along with Nachi, start to move away in order to give Akiyasu and Futaba some space. That was a sign that the two onmyojis were currently thinking the same thing, Akiyasu starts staring at Futaba for a long time and then begins to speak.
Akiyasu : "Tatsuomi told me about what happened last night, you really like to get yourself involved in things that don't concern you don't you?"
He said in a scolding tone and Futaba noticed it, but nevertheless decided to tell him all the details, and Akiyasu was surprised at what she faced.
Akiyasu : "I've never heard of an ayakashi using a spear as a weapon."
Futaba : "It's the truth, I saw it with my own eyes, it split the Wraith in half and caused the Wraith to disappear completely, it banished the Wraith, just as the ayakashi and onmyoji do."
Akiyasu : "And what's with that Sand you found?"
Futaba : "That's what I'm trying to figure out, and this isn't the first time, one of my friends came across the same conclusion."
Akiyasu : "If the same thing happens every time, doesn't that mean that sand is used for shading or camouflage?"
Futaba : "You think so?"
Akiyasu : "Just a hunch, there might be others reasons for why that sand appears so randomly."
The two kept analyzing what was going on at the moment until they reached a moment of silence between them and Akiyasu began asking her again.
Akiyasu : "Why do you think this ayakashi has anything to do with what's going on?"
Futaba : "I know what you mean, these incidents started before this ayakashi appeared, but I'm sure they are related, I just need more time to find out."
Akiyasu : "Time won't help. At this rate, more people will fall victim to this pandemic. You are trying to analyze something that is intangible or uncertain, as well as randomly appearing. It's different from the Wraiths this time around."
Akiyasu said pessimistically, and this spread anxiety and terror in Futaba again, she let out a worried sigh but her anxiety was replaced by a sudden call from behind.
Fukajiro : "Futaba!"
Futaba : "Fukajiro..."
Fukajiro returns with Tatsuomi and Nachi with her, and her return calms Futaba's features after she was worried about her earlier discussion.
Akiyasu : "Had fun already?"
Akiyasu said sarcastically to Tatsuomi but Tatsuomi just shrugged and giggled.
Fukajiro : "Why you look a little upset? You weren't like that moments ago."
Fukajiro says, staring at her friend with a worried look. Futaba was surprised that Fukajiro could see the displeasure in her features even though she tried to hide it.
Tatsuomi : "And it looks like you two had a good conversation, am I right?"
Akiyasu : "None of what we had was a good conversation to say the least."
Fukajiro : "Wait what were you two talking about?"
Futaba : "It's not that-"
"AAAAAAHHHHH!!!"
But before Futaba could finish her sentence, they were interrupted by a loud shout from the entire area.
"He collapsed, he really collapsed, call for help!!"
The voice got louder and louder saying this and all eyes turned towards the sound, only to find a man lying motionless on the ground and the people including Futaba witnessed this.
Tatsuomi : "Leave the place immediately the perpetrator may still be among us, flee at once!!"
Tatsuomi shouts a warning and people start running left and right, fearing for their lives.
Futaba : "let's get out of here Fuka-"
Futaba turns to Fukajiro trying to leave, but as soon as her eyes fall on her...
Fukajiro : "...!!"
Futaba : "Fukajiro...?"
She had never seen these features in her since the day they met, she seemed terrified of what she witnessed, people around her were running while she did not have the ability to move an eyelid to change her features even a little. A scene like this might be difficult for a girl of her age, the look in her emerald eyes were a sign of the terror that was sweeping her now, her feelings and shock prevented her from moving...
Tatsuomi : "Futaba, you're supposed to leave, I'll take care of things here!"
Futaba : "Fukajiro, let's go!!"
Futaba screamed for the last time and this was enough to wake Fukagero out of her shock, but she didn't say anything and just grabbed Futaba's hand tightly as if Futaba might leave her at any moment. Futaba managed to escape from the event, accompanied by Nachi and Fukajiro, who was still terrified of what she saw, until they reached the doorstep of Futaba's house and the sun began to set. Surprisingly, Futaba's father was there and was surprised to see them panting.
Mototaka : "What's the matter? Did something happened?"
Futaba : "Father...we saw it...someone collapsed to the ground all of a sudden, just as they say."
Futaba says, still out of breath, and this surprised her father, but what surprised him the most was the presence of Fukajirro among them, and dead features drawn on her face. Mototaka did not hesitate to welcome the terrified child to his home, and the night had already fallen, so Futaba decided to explain what happened today to her father.
Mototaka : "I see..."
Mototaka says after understanding the whole story, Futaba was with her father in the living room while Nachi decided to take Fukajiro to rest in Futaba's room.
Futaba : "It happened before our eyes, it's only natural for Fukajiro not to put up with such a horrible situation given her age, the culprit must have been there...If only Tatsu hadn't asked us to leave, I'd have at least got a lead."
Annoyed by what happened, Futaba said, placing her hand on her knees, holding her clothes tightly, showing her distress.
Mototaka : "Are you really intent on confronting the perpetrator?"
Mototaka asked with a clear look of concern on his face towards his only daughter. Futaba looked at her father and was able to sense his concern, but she nodded.
Futaba : "I must, if it is a matter of ayakashi and wraith, then I must intervene. Dad, I understand your concern, but...things are getting out of control and the number of victims is on the rise, and someone has to stop this."
She said confidently, her eyes looking into her father's eyes. From the beginning, Futaba made the decision to confront the perpetrator, no matter what happened, but of course, she will not be able to do that alone.
Futaba : "Hmm...?"
Suddenly, Futaba senses something coming from outside so she goes to investigate, only to find a golden dove flying towards her, Futaba catches the dove and then turns into a message.
Futaba : "It's from Major Aizen, just as well expected."
Futaba whispers to herself and heads inside to tell her father what she has found, and at the same time sends a reply message via her butterfly familliar. As for Aizen's message, it was straightforward : Aizen wants her to come to headquarters to discuss an important matter, just as Koga said that day.
...
Futaba : "I won't be late, Father. I asked Koga to accompany me so I'll meet him on my way."
Futaba told her father while she was preparing herself to go, but Mototaka seems worried about what happened so far and more worried because his daughter will be among what will happen later, but on the other hand he believes that his daughter is strong and will survive this, that's why he never stood in her way.
Futaba : "Tell Nachi to stay with Fukajiro, and I'll tell you all the news as soon as I get back."
Mototaka : "All right, please be careful there, Futaba."
Mototaka said after seeing his daughter hastened to the desired location.
Sincerely, Your Fellow Choi
@yyxgin Happy birthday, my beloved! I know this is way too late to be justifiable, and I have no real excuse. Just life and oversights, but never once do I want you to think I forgot about celebrating your birthday <3 It was literally on the list of things I most wanted to do this year—celebrate an amazing friend like you. So I hope you enjoy!
April 16th, Saturday 11:55 PM
For the past couple of weeks, I've been getting an email every Sunday at 12AM exactly, like it's scheduled.
Taehyun kept telling me not to open them 'cause they could be viruses, but I'm dumb (as he likes to playfully remind me), so I didn't listen to him.
I opened one a few weeks ago, which led to opening all the ones I'd received up to that point. And now I'm sitting here, anxiously scrawling down whatever I can while waiting for the next one to show up. My leg is shaking like crazy.
They weren't spam like I originally thought. They're very well thought-out and written with love. Each email is an instruction manual of how to fall in love with (Y/F/N).
I wouldn't say we're friends, but we know each other from high school (which is something I've tried to leave far, far behind me), and we talk sometimes.
We have one or two overlapping classes, but we're not lunch buddies by any means necessary. She's nice enough. I remember her making chocolates for me once for a school-wide Secret Santa thing we did.
They were pretty good. Nothing to write home about, though.
But for some reason, someone out there who signs off all their emails with the phrase "sincerely, your fellow Choi", seems to want me to think that she's got a massive crush on me and we're a match made in heaven.
At first, I thought it was silly—maybe a prank from one of her friends or something. But y'know how you just get vibes sometimes? It just feels too absurd not to be true.
I'm not saying I've fallen for her just because of a few emails, but I am saying I've learned a lot about her through these email, and I can't really tell if that's creepy or not.
How is it that I've never once noticed her before reading these emails? She's been walking in and out of my life for well over 6 years, yet I've never given her a second thought.
She was always just there, doing her own thing. She had her friends, and I had mine—if you could really call them that. None of them cared enough to keep in touch with me after high school.
I don't know why this random Choi is trying to get me interested in this girl from a past that I'm trying to forget, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't working.
Oh! Hold up.
The new email just came. Gotta go—I'll try to write more tomorrow.
April 18th, Monday 10:31 PM
Okay, so obviously, I forgot to write more yesterday. My bad. But no one's ever gonna see this anyway, so it's okay.
This works out though, 'cause I did something kinda crazy today. I decided to join the art club, 'cause (Y/N)'s a part of it. Taehyun thinks I'm insane, and Kai kindly reminded me that I can barely draw a stick figure, but I think this will be good for me in the long-run.
I can get closer to her in my own time, and I can see what she's actually like—not just what the emails want me to believe.
And maybe I can finally face high school again in a new light. Maybe now that I'm an adult, I won't be so scared.
April 19th, Tuesday 6:22 PM
Art is way harder than expected. I thought I'd pick it up pretty fast, but nah. I was wrong. This looks like chicken scratch.
On the upside, I talked to (Y/N) today. She could tell I was struggling, so she scooched over and whispered some shading tips while the team leader went over the assignment. She even offered to give me some drawing lessons on the weekends.
She didn't ask why I joined an art club, even though I'm a terrible artist.
It was nice. She was nice.
And she wasn't like how I remembered. I remembered someone more rambunctious and self-assured, and I guess that's why she always intimidated me.
Not to say she's not self-assured now, just more quiet about it. I can't tell if she's grown up, or if she's changed.
I also can't figure out why I haven't done either of those things yet.
April 23th, Saturday 3:00 PM
I had my first drawing lesson with (Y/N) today. She's such a good artist—it's kind of scary.
The emails keep talking about this hidden crush she's got on me, but I don't know if I fully believe it. I don't think I make her nervous at all.
She just smiles and talks and hums while she sketches. I don't seem to have an affect on her. She's just nice to me, like she is to everyone else.
And for some reason, that upsets me. The emails have been so accurate about everything else—her favorite colors, her hobbies, her favorite song, her allergies—yet it feels like they got her feelings for me all wrong.
I don't know why I'm upset about this. I've already told myself I'm not catching feelings, just seeing for myself what all the fuss is about. But still... I'm a little disappointed.
I guess I just expected more.
May 24th, Tuesday 8:01 PM
Wow, I kinda forgot about this. It's been a while since my last entry, but don't worry—it's for a good reason. (Y/N) and I have actually been hanging out a lot these days, and it's been fun.
Most of the time, it's for club things or art lessons, but sometimes we walk to class together or grab some coffee. And remember how I said we weren't lunch buddies? Well, we are now.
And we get along pretty well! She's funny. And I'm starting to think the crush thing might be more accurate than I thought.
I don't have any solid proof, but sometimes I swear I can feel her staring at me when she thinks I'm not paying attention. And she's always respectful of my personal bubble, yet tries to sit as close to me as possible without touching.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, or maybe it's my man brain trying to convince me, "oh yeah, dude. She's for sure into you", but either way, I'm kinda hoping I'm right.
In these few weeks I've spent truly noticing her and having her in the forefront of my life instead of on the sidelines, I've realized that I wouldn't hate it if she had a crush on me.
In fact, I'd be honored. She's cool.
May 30th, Monday 7:45 AM
This is gonna be a short entry 'cause I'm already late for class, but I just had to jot this down real quick in case I forget.
I think I figured out who the 'fellow Choi' is. The emails reminded me that (Y/N)'s close to that jock guy, Choi Yeonjun. They've been friends and neighbors since they were little, and he went to the same high school as us, just a year ahead.
I vaguely remember him as one of the hooligans she used to skateboard around with, but the memory's fuzzy.
I've seen them hanging out before, but I didn't realize they were that tight. If there's anyone who would know that much about her, it'd be him. I'm gonna confront him tomorrow, so we'll see what happens.
May 31st, Tuesday 5:53 PM
Yeah, so that whole confronting thing? It didn't go so well. I now have confirmation that he's not the fellow Choi, but I also have a bloody nose, so I don't know if I've accomplished anything.
It was a real 'one step forward, two steps back' kind of situation. From what I've seen of him around campus, he seems like a very chill, friendly guy, and you can tell he cares for (Y/N) like a brother.
So you can imagine my surprise when I said 'hi' and his first reaction was to grab me by the collar, shove me against a brick wall, and sock me in the nose.
What I hate most was the eyes it attracted. I just know there's gonna be rumors about us fighting for (Y/N)'s hand or some crap.
All in all, something tells me he doesn't like me. He told me to stay away from (Y/N) if I didn't have the 'right intentions'.
His exact words were, "The Chois in her life have already given her enough shit, and if you add on to that, I swear to God, I'll break so much more than your nose."
It was definitely a change from the guy I'd seen ruffling (Y/N)'s hair and giving her noogies while complimenting her latest artwork and calling her a nerd.
I'm scared and angry, for sure, but also just confused. I feel like there's more to this story that I'm not getting or hasn't been revealed to me yet. I feel left behind.
And also, I wish he'd been more clear as he threatened me. What are my intentions supposed to be?
'Cause I think I'm falling for her. And if that's not Choi Yeonjun approved, how am I just supposed to just stop these feelings from growing?
Would it even be possible at this point?
June 2nd, Thursday 9:10 PM
I emailed back the fellow Choi the other day. I wanted to see if they knew what I did to hurt (Y/N) and Yeonjun in the past.
They never answered.
June 13th, Monday 11:11 AM
(Y/N) made Yeonjun apologize to me. Not gonna lie, it was a little gratifying to see that tough guy all humbled and grumbly while she glared up at him and demanded an apology.
All-in-all, even though it was forced, he seemed pretty genuine. He even asked how my nose was doing. I told him it wasn't broken, and I think (for the most part) there are no lingering hard feelings between us.
Except for the ones he's hiding from me—the ones that I assume have been there for a long time. And he must've said something to (Y/N), 'cause she's been weird too. Not mean or cold, just distant. Lost in her thoughts, even when we're together.
I wonder if he brought up some memories from the past that she'd forgotten or repressed. I kind of resent him for that a little, 'cause things were going well between us, and now I don't know what to do with my feelings.
They're getting too strong to keep inside, but would it be insensitive to confess now? I don't even know anymore. I'm so confused.
More than anything, I just wanna know what I did. I must've been either really self-absorbed or incredibly insecure in high school, because I'm coming to realize that I never really noticed anyone.
It was always just me in my little bubble, and even with my friends, I never let them get too close. As I'm writing this, I also kinda realize that I'm the only person stopping myself from making genuine connections with others.
And that pretty much decides it for me. I'm gonna confess to her this weekend—just you watch.
June 19th, Sunday 10:30 PM
Today might be one of my favorite days ever. I spent the whole day with (Y/N), and for the first time in a while, it didn't feel awkward.
I would kind of consider this our first date. We went out for breakfast, then we talked for hours and realized, "Oh, we should probably get lunch." And after lunch, we didn't wanna say goodbye, so we decided to go for a walk. "Work off the calories," she said.
By that time, we were hungry again, so she invited me to her dorm for an improvised snack dinner. It certainly wasn't gourmet, but it was tasty, and it was fun to make it together.
She looked so pretty. She didn't even do anything special—she just looked nice. So I told her. Then one thing led to another, and I was rambling and going on and on, and then I finally got it out.
Those three words I'd been trying to spit out all day. "I like you."
And guess what? She likes me too. She actually, genuinely likes me. And before I left, you know that she did? She gave me a kiss on the hand.
Not on the cheek, not on the lips, but on my hand. I've never gotten butterflies like that before. It's so weird to think that now... I have a girlfriend. It's wild.
It was really cool seeing her place, too. I remembered her skateboarding back in high school (hard to forget with the emails proudly remind me every five seconds), but she actually has medals and stuff from competitions she entered in with her old team.
Yeonjun was on that team too, apparently. She had a framed picture of them proudly showing off their second place trophy with their arms slung over each other's shoulders.
Cute picture. A little small for the frame, though. Maybe I should get her a new one.
July 10th, Sunday 12:15 AM
I think I just got the last email. It felt ominous, like a permanent goodbye. "I can't have her back anymore, so I'm leaving it up to you. If you haven't fallen for her at this point, please at least just be her friend. I'm sure Yeonjun's all she's got. Be good to her."
And as always, signed off with that 'sincerely, your fellow Choi'. I'm not sure why, but when I read it this time, I got goosebumps all over my body.
It was like I'd been talking to a ghost. They were there, and then they were gone—like a cool breeze or a puff of smoke.
It feels empty.
September 3rd, Saturday 9:45 PM
(Y/N) got mad at me for the first time today. We were doing some studying at her place, and I was admiring the pictures and medals on her wall while she was in the bathroom.
But I'm a klutz, so of course, I ended up knocking something over. It was that framed picture of her and Yeonjun. The glass shattered and the back fell out, and I swear I felt my heart drop into my stomach.
All I could think was 'shit, shit, I just broke the important thing', and like a little kid, my first thought was to get rid of the evidence.
Now, realistically, there was nothing I could do about the glass in such a short time, but I thought if I could just pop the panel back on and make sure the framing wasn't damaged...
But that's when I noticed the picture, slightly peeking out from the broken frame. It was too small because it had been folded.
I wasn't trying to pry. I wasn't trying to look at it.
But it was there, unfolded right in front of me. And I could see that in the previously folded up corner, (Y/N) had her arm wrapped another guy. A guy with longish black hair, his nose scrunched up by a big, toothy grin, and a skateboard pinned under his arm.
The three of them looked so happy together. A perfect little trio. And when I looked at the guy, I couldn't help but feel a sense of familiarity.
When (Y/N) finally came out, she blew up at me. I couldn't tell if it was because of the fact that I broke her frame, or because I saw the other half of that picture.
Now, (Y/N)'s not a petty person, so if I had to guess... I'd say it was the latter. I wanna know who he is. I wanna know why he feels so familiar. And I wanna know why he hurts her so much.
So much so that she would fold him out of a picture, but not find it within herself too throw it away.
But I'm dumb, so I didn't say any of those things. We just argued. I stormed out.
I regret it.
September 7th, Wednesday 4:32 PM
We've made up. That's what we say, anyway. But it's awkward, with just a hint of tension.
I've tried talking it out with her, asking about that guy, but she says she doesn't want to talk about it.
I'm not experienced enough for this. I don't know what's right. I don't know when to push and when to let it lie.
I'm scared to mess this up.
Soobin laid dead asleep in his room, disturbed by an incessant tap-tap-tap.
With a groan, he rolled over in bed, flipping on his bedside lamp and instinctively checking the time on his phone. Two in the morning. He groaned again as the tapping only became more insistent.
In his bleary daze, he managed to glance at the window, doing a double-take as he saw a shadowy figure outside of it. His eyes widened, pulling the sheets up and over his nose as slowly as possible. The tapping stopped, and he could’ve sworn he saw the figure sigh.
Moments later, his phone buzzed with a notification.
“It’s me, coward,” the notification read.
With a start, he jumped up, swinging his window open with expert speed, successfully shocking the person on the other side of the glass. “(Y/N)!” he gasped, grabbing her wrists and pulling her back towards him as she lost her balance.
He reared backward, pulling her into the room and landing them both on the bed with a thump, Soobin splayed flat on his back and (Y/N) nestled somewhat comfortably into his shoulder. “What were you doing on the roof, you idiot?” he asked, hands instinctively going to rub up and down her back.
“I didn’t wanna wake your roommates...” she said sheepishly. “They probably heard me scream, though.”
Soobin shook his head, biting back the chuckle that rose in his throat. “Nah, don’t worry too much,” he said. “They sleep like rocks.” He took a moment to bask in the silence between them. This was the most carefree they’d been together in a while. “So what brings you here this cold evening?”
She propped herself up a little, examining his face with a hint of something in her eyes. He didn’t want to jump to conclusions, but maybe guilt? She cupped his cheek.
“Have I ever told you why I like you?” she asked softly. Soobin only shook his head. “It’s ‘cause you care so much more than you think you do. You’re so humble, and you always underestimate yourself, but you’re the coolest, most kindest guy out there.” He felt butterflies whirl up in his stomach like the first time she kissed his hand. “I just needed to tell you that.”
Soobin could feel himself tearing up, but he willed himself to suck it in. “Well... Thank you,” he said. He wanted to say anything else. He wanted to list all the reasons he liked her and how he’d started finding peace and self-acceptance through her, but no words came out—like a blubbering fish out of water.
“Can I introduce you to someone?” (Y/N) asked, seemingly to instinctively know that he wouldn’t be able to get anything out.
Soobin blinked in confusion. “What, like... right now?” he asked.
She nodded. “If we don’t do this now, I’m worried I’ll get too scared again.”
Now, he could give a million viable excuses on why he couldn’t go. He’s tired, he has early morning classes, it’s nearly freezing—but none of that mattered. He wanted to do whatever she wanted to do.
Tumblr media
It’d easily been an hour, and they were only getting further from the familiar territory of their campus grounds. Soobin could feel himself dozing off again, but he urged himself not to. Even if he felt like shit in the morning, he was gonna stay awake for this.
“Where are we goin’?” he asked from the passenger seat of (Y/N)’s dumpy old car that stubbornly refused not to die, like a spiteful great-aunt.
“We’re almost there,” she said cryptically, gripping the steering wheel ever so slightly tighter. “Just give it a sec. It’s on the left.”
Soobin blinked hard and mussed up his hair, trying to make himself more presentable. He was still in his pajamas, so the least he could do would be to look awake. He glance at all the signs as they passed by buildings, each one of them not likely to be their stop.
When she finally slowed down and flicked on her blinker, Soobin’s heart dropped, the words ‘columbarium’ staring him in the face like the barrel of a gun. “(Y/N)—” he started.
She shook her head. “Don’t say anything yet,” she instructed gently. “Just wait till we get inside.” She took a pause while she put the car in park. “And hold my hand. I haven’t been here in a while.”
With her hand tightly grasped in his and the car locked behind them, they made their way into the building. Already, it was a sad, humbling atmosphere—seeing all the urns, photos, bouquets, and letters from family pinned up on the wall. There was so much love and sorrow, all contained in one place.
Finally, (Y/N) stopped in front of one specific niche. ”Meet Beomgyu,” she said, a slight tremor in her voice. “One of my best friends, and your fellow Choi.” In the picture frame behind the cage of glass stood a very familiar boy with longish black hair, a toothy grin, and a crinkled nose.
Soobin looked at her with wide eyes. “How did you—?”
“You left your diary at my place,” she said. “I’m sorry I was nosy, but I couldn’t help but read it. And by doing that, I realized how much I’ve been making you suffer on your own, and I’m so sorry.” She gripped his hand tighter, making eye contact with him. “Will you forgive me?”
His heart ached. “There’s nothing to forgive, honestly...” he said, voice barely above a whisper. It felt rude to speak any louder in a place full of the deceased.
“You don’t have to lie to make me feel better, y’know,” she said. “It’s not a fair relationship if we’re always walking on eggshells around each other. So I’ll share some of my scars with you tonight, and you can share yours when you’re ready. I might not get all your questions answered, but I'll start.”
He felt his chest tighten. He couldn’t help but feel grateful to Choi Beomgyu for leading him to such a great girl.
He nodded. “Okay,” he said. “I promise I'll do the same for you later.” He looked back at Beomgyu’s picture. The longer he looked at it, the more bits and pieces of memories from high school came flooding back in.
(Y/N), Yeonjun, and Beomgyu. The kids who always rode into school on their skateboards, zooming past everyone on the way through the front gates while laughing and shouting jokes at each other. Soobin was pretty separate from their friend group, but out of all of them, he was most familiar with Beomgyu.
He was the class clown. Everyone loved him, and he loved making everyone laugh—even at his own expense. Yeonjun was always the one to back him up with a smile on his face, even when he called him a dumbass. And (Y/N) was always the one following quietly behind them, cleaning up thier messes.
But she never seemed to mind. She didn’t even care that as they walked down the halls, people would call out “Hey, Beomgyu!” or “Hey, Yeonjun!”, but no one ever called out for her.
“Tell me about him,” Soobin said.
She took a deep breath. “I don’t even know where to start.”
“How’d you become friends?”
She cracked a little smile, though he could still see the pain lacing it from the scabbed over wound on her heart that had yet to fully heal. “Yeonjun and Beomgyu were nextdoor neighbors, I lived across the street,” she said. “Their mom’s were best friends, and I moved to the neighborhood with my folks later on. Y’know how moms always want you be comfortable and have friends you can count on?”
Soobin chuckled. “For sure,” he said. “Even if I got a terrible report card, my mom’s first instinct was still to scold me on how I didn’t put in enough effort to make friends.”
“My mom was the same,” she said. “So about a week after we moved in, she said, ‘C’mon! Let’s go say hi to the neighbors’ sons!’ I was shy and I didn’t wanna go, but God, am I glad I did. They were both at Beomgyu's place, and as soon as I got through the front door, they dragged me upstairs to play Mario Kart and then outside to shoot each other with nerf guns.”
Her smile grew, more genuine this time. “I didn’t have time to be nervous, not with their hyper-active asses. From that point on, we basically grew up together. They were like my big brothers. Whatever they did, I wanted to do it too. That’s why I started skating, y’know.”
“Now, Beomgyu... I don’t even know how to describe him. He was like a whirlwind, y’know? He was crazy, confident, a little overzealous at times, but sweet. He always remembered the little things about you, and even though his loudness could be a little annoying at first, once he went quiet with you, you felt like something was missing."
She sighed through her nose. "I miss his voice," she said rawly, as if she hadn't allowed herself to admit that for the past couple of years.
“The three of us went through life, did everything together, talked about how we were gonna get matching tattoos once we graduated, and then one day, we were all skating—practicing for a competition, actually—and Beomgyu fell.” Her voice grew quieter at the end.
“Beomgyu never fell. He said he felt dizzy and his head hurt. We thought he must’ve hit it on the way down, so we rushed him off the the hospital—a bunch of scared teenagers. And that’s where they discovered it. A weird hybrid type of acute myeloid leukemia.”
Soobin squeezed her hand tighter. She appreciated it. “Most people live at least 5 years after being diagnosed, but Beomgyu didn’t have that time. It was too late and too developed. He had a little under a year.”
Soobin’s heart ached. No wonder it was  painful memory. She lost her best friend when she was just a kid. “That must’ve been awful for you,” he whispered, stepping a little closer to her, just to let her feel his warmth.
“It was,” she agreed softly. “What’s worse though is that I spent those last 6 months lying straight to his face.”
 Soobin gave her a questioning look.
“Yeonjun cornered me one day. Told me that Beomgyu had been in love with me for a few years, but I never even noticed,” she said. In Soobin’s head, that made sense. And it explained the affection behind the emails’ tone. “And he never confessed ‘cause he didn’t wanna mess up our friendship, and then he thought he’d lost his shot, ‘cause I started crushing on you.”
“But Yeonjun looked me straight in the eyes as we stood by a vending machine in the hospital at almost 11:30 one night and said, ‘Beomgyu’s gonna confess to you tonight. Please accept him’.”
She let out a dry laugh at the memory. “I didn’t know what to say. It’s not that I was disgusted by the thought of being with him or that I was particularly hung up on you—I just thought you were cute at that point—but I just didn’t feel... anything. No sparks. And that’s not how love’s supposed to be.”
“So I though I’d turn him down gently,” she continued. “Knowing Beomgyu, I thought he’d be happy to just get it off his chest, and then we could spend his last few months as we always had. The unbeatable trio.”
She leaned her head on Soobin’s shoulder, feeling drained and tired. “But when I got into his room, he’d prepared flowers, and balloons, and a handwritten letter, and a big romantic speech, and I just...
She nuzzled closer into his shoulder. "I didn’t have the heart. He’d never had a girlfriend before, and I couldn’t help but feel like it was all my fault. Maybe he was waiting for me and I just never got to that point. So I accepted him. I’ve never seen him look so relieved. He almost cried.”
“So I went six months... Pretending to be in love with him. But I think he knew. I think he knew my heart wasn’t in it, and that’s what made it even worse. He would apologize all the time with that sad smile on his face, and it just made me feel even worse.”
“So I tried harder to be a good girlfriend, made myself feel even worse, argued with Yeonjun all the time ‘cause I felt like he was only thinking about Beomgyu, and overall, I just screwed everything up. He had less than a year left with us and I wasted it lying to him. I didn’t even do it well. It all felt pointless.”
“Especially when I knew for sure he knew. He told me he was gonna repay me someday for helping him live out his short dream, even though it was hard for me. I guess he held up his end.”
She looked up, meeting eyes with Soobin, his dark orbs damp with sympathy. “He gave me you, the crazy bastard. Guess he knew five years would probably be enough for me not to totally hate myself anymore,” she chuckled. “That way, I could love properly again.”
She looked back at the niche, staring intently at Beomgyu’s portrait, as well as the smaller pictures laid out around it. Pretty much all of them had herself and Yeonjun inside of them, right next to Beomgyu and his dopey grin.
“He never let me kiss him,” she said. “I tried, but he never let me. He always joked and said ‘cooties’, but I know it’s ‘cause he didn’t want me to waste my first kiss on a lie. He was good like that.”
Without him realizing it, Soobin had started crying. Not a harsh sob or a broken whimper, just thick tears pouring out of his stinging, red eyes. He couldn’t tell if he was saddened by the story or thankful for the gesture.
Wordlessly, he faced the niche, giving a deep bow. “Thank you,” he whispered, “for giving me your best friend. I can tell how much you love her.”
In that moment, the air changed. It felt warmer.
Maybe somewhere out there, in a different timeline or dimension, Beomgyu was flashing his dopey smile, happy that another one of his hair-brained schemes worked out.
warnings: language, alcohol consumption, little of aggression
a/n: i’ve decided to make it a written part bc this situation with chan was missing action, but i hope you like it🫶🏻
as your hand was about to lose contact with jake's soft skin you heard a loud knock on the front door. jake threw his phone on the bed and jogged up to the door to check who was disturbing your precious time. you couldn't see him anymore, but you heard him unlocking the door and some muffled sounds reached your bedroom.
"who is it jakie?!" you yelled through the apartment.
"no one. they are leaving now." jake said, but something was telling you to go there and check if everything's okay so you got your pregnant self up with the rest of your energy and waddled to the hall. and there he was, standing in your doorway, one hand on a frame and a bottle of alcohol in the other.
"chris, what are you doing here? it's late." you crossed your arms on your chest and stared him in the eyes from the distance.
"yn, baby, please come back to me." he whined trying to pass jake who was blocking him from going inside. you stepped back looking at jake.
"hyung, it's late and you're drunk. i asked you to not disturb yn now. she can't be stressed now." blond boy tried to make him step back so he's as far away from you as he can, but chan slapped his hand off of his shoulder with anger.
"who the fuck do you think you are? little baby boy that yn feels sorry for since you've been liking her for so long. she's going to dump you the moment she gives birth to MY BABY. she knows better than to raise a child in a broken family." chan could barely keep himself on his own feet. his words didn't affect jake, he knew better than that.
"chan, you either leave now or i will call the police. it's 10 pm for fuck sake. stop causing a scene and sober up. i'm not going to talk to you when you're like this." you came up to the door and stood behind jake.
"baby, go to the bedroom, i'll handle it, okay?" he looked at you with a worried expression. you shook your head and moved your attention to chris again. he looked miserble, his hair were dry, face pale and he had his wrist support on as if he was working too much.
"look what you've done to yourself. you look like a disaster. you're drinking again. you can't even think straight. i told you to talk to me when you grow up. is this growing up in your opinion? becasue for me it looks like you are going down the hill again. chris, you talk shit to and about jake, but he's the one taking care of me. he takes me to every doctor's appointment, he drives me to the store at 11 pm so i can get the cake i really want. he helps me build the nursery, he does everything he can to be the best daddy for a kid that isn't even his. he never turned his back on me. he could've left us the moment i started yelling at him in the middle of the night because he was breathing too loud, but he didn't. do you really think i'm going to dump him when the baby's here? well, you couldn't be more wrong. this man is the most amazing person i've ever met. he doesn't complain. when i need him, he's by my side in a matter of minutes. he's able to drop everything for me. are you able to do it for your child?" tears started streaming down your face, every emotion you've been holding in just flew out. you never wanted to hurt chris, but life's unpredictable. we don't know when we meet our THE ONE. yet you knew that chan wasn't that person.
chris looked down on the floor, eyes full of tears. you've seen him cry so many times. especially when you were still teenagers and his dad was screaming at his little brother. but those tears were different. those tears were disappointment in himself. he started sobbing and dropped to his knees. it was like a movie scene. if you were going with this logic you would’ve came up to him, he would hug your round belly and start apologizing. but you didn't want his apologies. they meant nothing from his mouth at this point. he had to own up to all of his mistakes.
"this conversation is done chris. go home, sober up and think about everything i just told you. if you don't get your shit together, you're not coming near YOUR child. am i clear?" you wiped your tears angrily with your sweater.
"yes ma'am." he spoke softly and got up. "i'm sorry jake. i shouldn't have said all of those things." he stepped out of the apartment.
"hyung, grow up. you have only five months left before your life changes for good. i won't let you hurt yn again. this is the last time you step into this place in a state like this. she doesn't deserve it, okay? you know that she's the best thing ever happened to you. just keep thinking this way and everything will work out, alright?" jake put his hand out for chris to shake it. he accepted it grabbing tight.
"i forgot how fucking nice you are." they laughed slightly. chris turned around and left. jake locked the door and quickly came up to you taking you into his arms.
"i love you so fucking much, yn." he said into your shoulder kissing it softly. you pulled him away and looked him in the eyes.
"what did you just say?" big smile creeping onto your face.
"i love you, yn." he presented you his biggest smile and cupped your face. "i love you so much. you don't even know how much you mean to me." you put your hands on his, tears threatning to fall down your face again. you let out a little sniffle and kissed him deeply, yet so sincerly.
"i love you too, jakie." you whispered looking him in the eyes.
Chapter Eight: Turn Me On (AO3 Link)
Tumblr media
Chapter Snapshot
Viperion's mouth was still hung open from when he'd been cut off mid-sentence, but now he was just staring at her like she was a freak. He snapped his mouth shut and rubbed the back of his neck again before speaking. "I wondered this when you mentioned your Master before, but…how much did he teach you? About…all of this?"
Ladybug had always suspected there was a lot she didn't know, and she'd told Master Fu over and over that she didn't feel ready, that she felt like she was drowning with it all, but he just…he had so much faith in her. So much faith that it made her feel bad that she was doubting herself when he saw so much in her. For a moment, it was a relief that there was someone, even if she didn't particularly like that someone, who thought Master Fu might have left her unprepared too. Ladybug leaned back in her chair. "I mean…the basics, I thought. The names of all the Kwamis, what their powers were…why the Miracle Box was important, and why I needed to keep my identity a secret. Not to use the power for selfish reasons." Basic stuff.
Viperion seemed to deflate a bit, and inadequacy came rushing back through her like a tornado. "I mean, we didn't have a lot of time--just a year. And I didn't even know he existed for most of it, a-and when I did, fighting Hawk Moth and then Mayura took most of my time…"
Cross-country travel. Hotel room. Odd jobs. Apartment. Odd Jobs. Buy Stuff. Odd jobs. Sell stuff. Cross-country travel. Rinse and repeat, ad nauseam. After the day Luka had had, he was glad to be back to a familiar rhythm, even when something in the back of his brain whispered, Familiar for how long? For now, he ignored it.
"The back entrance is 'round here. 'Spect you'll be usin' that most of the time, and that suits me just fine. No loud music past nine." The old man ambled around the well-kept garden, pointing down to the concrete staircase that led to a wrought-iron door in an alcove. "Key's under the mat, feel free to keep it with yeh, I've got spares. Er, what wassit you said you did again?" Beady eyes squinted at him through thick glasses.
Luka smiled politely, shifting his guitar case. "I'm a luthier. I just got a job at Paradis des Cordes."
The man nodded amicably before shaking his head with a frown, the words catching up with him. "Haw? Didn' you say you just flew in today?"
"Yes, sir. I interviewed for the position while I was still in New York, over the phone. There aren't many people with my level of expertise," Luka said with a soft laugh. He had felt that something about Paris was going to be different this time and that finding stable work before he arrived would be prudent. He didn't intend on making his presence known to Ladybug for a few weeks, so having something that didn't involve using Sass was imperative. He was relieved that Parisians were used to akumas causing delays and that being late for the first time he met his new boss wasn't as big a deal as he'd feared.
"Interviewin' over the phone--sounds plum crazy," the old man rumbled on, "but most folks don't seem to have much sense these days." He sighed, wistful and long-suffering. "Well. I'll get outta yer hair. Knock if you need me."
"Yes, sir, thank you," Luka waved, stepping aside so the man could totter back to his front door. Luka descended down the staircase and got the key from under the simple brown door mat and unlocked the door, storing the key in his jeans pocket. The little apartment was plain but cozy. A small kitchenette sat on the right side of the door, and to his left was a small living room, complete with a vintage CRT television set and plush dark brown loveseat. Directly across from the entryway was a set of hardwood stairs that must have led up to the old man's home proper. Just to the right of the stairs an open door led to a room with a full-sized bed, a simple walnut chest of drawers, and a side table. The bed looked very tempting, but he still had to unpack.
"Do you think the Celestial Guardian would hang me from my toes if he knew I was hiding his guidebook in a toilet?" Luka asked, duct tapping the triple-wrapped trove of knowledge under the tank lid of the toilet. Sass hissed a laugh to go with Mullo's giggle.
"Perhapsss, but it isss for the greater good."
He readjusted the tank lid on top of the toilet and washed his hands. "Mullo, I know it'll be hard for you, but you absolutely can't go upstairs, alright? We don't want a repeat of what happened last time."
Mullo pouted, "But it's so boring."
Luka dried his hands on the tan hand towel next to the bathroom sink. "It'll be different this time. I won't leave you in the house anymore, as long as you promise to stay hidden while we're outside."
"Deal!"
Luka fixed himself a sandwich for dinner and set out an egg and cheese for Sass and Mullo, then settled into bed to see if he could start to adjust his sleep schedule. It was only 7 pm, but he was exhausted. The plane ride had been long, followed by the hour on the bus, the run-in with Ladybug and Chat Noir, meeting his boss, finding his new apartment--he should be ready to pass out, but he was wide awake. He could hear Mullo snoring from the inside the safe burrow of his duffel bag. Sass was curled in a ball at the end of the bed, tongue occasionally slithering out in his sleep. The snake stirred and lifted his head when Luka got up and dressed, and wound up following Luka into the living room. They sat in companionable silence for several minutes, staring at the old CRT television sitting on the entertainment center across from them.
He expected both Kwamis to bring up the business with the Guardian immediately when they were all alone, but neither of them had. They had gone about their usual routines with as much ease as they had before. It had been a relief at first, although he knew he would want to address the elephant in the room at some point. Luka pulled a guitar pick from his jeans pocket and flipped it around and around in his fingers, thinking. The clock on the wall indicated it was 8: 14. Luka pulled his guitar case around and unlatched it, settling the instrument in his lap so he could begin to mess with what he had dubbed "Marinette's Melody". He didn't get very far.
"I'm sorry, Sass," he eventually said. His fingers slowed to a lazy pace, the guitar moaning a sad lullaby beneath his fingertips. "We've been doing all this so you could finally see your friends again, and I just…I could have done that for you, but I didn't."
Sass shook his head sagely. "No, we have been doing thisss sso we could enssure all of the Miraculoussss were in ssafe handsss. Our tassk isss not yet complete."
That was true, he supposed. The Butterfly and Peacock were still being used for ill, Ladybug admitted it herself. He still had some time to grapple with the change coming to his future. He would do everything he could to ensure the Butterfly and Peacock were returned to the Guardian, and then…maybe by then, he'd be ready. "You're right. I guess I'm being over dramatic," he said with a small laugh.
"When the Miraculousss are all ssafe, thingsss will change. Perhapsss you can become who you were alwaysss meant to be," Sass said, tone light.
Luka's hands paused on the strings, his heart slowing. "Problem is, I'm not sure who that is anymore," he said, a small smile on his lips as he turned to look at his friend. He’d spent decades searching for and protecting the Miraculouses, and when those leads would run dry, he’d roamed the world in search of their legacies, instead. No one else was around to remember, so he had taken up the mantel. A roving bard in search of heroes to write songs for.
Sass looked nervous, normally bright eyes clouded. He spoke slowly--if he had hands, Luka suspected he'd be wringing them. "If…it would pleasse you, you could…if you were not weary of it, you could be my holder. Properly, thisss time."
He couldn’t help the hope that crept into his voice. "Wait, you mean that? Wouldn't you want to go back with the Guardian? To the Miracle Box with your friends?"
"Only if that isss what you dessire. The Guardian exisstsss to choosse championsss who will fight for peace. The Miracle Box isss where we stay while we wait for a suitable champion," he paused, a smile forming over his face as he looked at the wide-eyed Luka. "I already have mine."
A rushing sting of tears overwhelmed him for a moment, relief swelling in his heart. Losing Sass wouldn't have just been losing a friend; it would've been losing his home. "That's good," Luka said thickly, a laugh bubbling out of his lips. "Because I don't know if I could let you go." Sass flew to burrow between his neck and shoulder, and Luka laid a warm hand on his smooth scales, not minding when a tear or two dropped off his lashes and onto his shirt. "How would you feel about having a look around town with me? I don't think I'm going to sleep tonight," he said after a minute.
He went to go rouse Mullo, but she grumbled at him to go away and let her sleep. Figures: he was finally going to let her join him and Sass on adventures outside (at her insistence), and now she was complaining he was interrupting her beauty sleep. Luka slipped out of the basement apartment, locking the door behind him. He asked his boss after introductions were made if he'd ever heard of Tom and Sabine's--and Malo had simply laughed and said it was just across the park. Paradis des Cordes faced Place des Vosges, so Malo only had to point one bony finger out the door for Luka to spot it. He'd unwittingly picked a place so close to where she could be found. Must be fate, his brain thought again, Marinette's eyes dancing in his mind.
His new apartment was close by, close enough to walk to work and back each day. Luka always traveled light. Anything he kept, he had to be able to shove in his duffel bag and call it a day (the only exception to this rule was his guitar, which he refused to travel without). As a consequence of spartan living, most of his clothes were utilitarian and easily replaceable if they were ripped or torn. The only thing that he took great care of was the leather jacket he tightened around him tonight in the Paris chill. It was part of Wes's 'initiation ritual' to the world of punk. Punk was familiar to him, the rebellious kids he met in the scene were the same he'd known growing up in London in the 1800s, full of piss and vinegar and in sore need of a place to put their energy when the world had given them the bird. The jacket was critical, a statement of who you were and what you stood for. He'd used white nail polish to embellish the back with a rough stencil of Jagged's rough, minimalistic logo.
It was part of him, now, a second skin, even though he only brought it out in the winter months. It was still too big for him, but he never cared. Better too big than too small. Luka crossed the street to the park, his feet grateful for the soft grass over the hard pavement. He wandered around the square for a bit, then crossed over to the other side to see if he could spot Tom & Sabine's--memorizing the pathway he would take when he would go tomorrow, hoping to spot a glimpse of her.
In the end, he couldn't think of anything worth sending via text. "Hey, it's Luka. Still waiting?", "Touched down in Paris, want to show me around? -Luka", "It's Luka, I missed you". Bad. All bad. He was too bad with words to trust his longing with them.
The boulangerie-patisserie was situated on a corner, the architecture jutting out elegantly with the store's name in gold letters, and beneath it were dark windows stenciled decoratively in gold. The second and third-floor windows were dark, but the attic windows were dimly lit. He could see a small balcony all the way at the top, which was dark, but after a moment a light burst forth from the back wall and a small figure appeared, coming to stand at the edge of the balcony.
From his place yards away, he could see her look out across the park, folding her arms to lean against the railing. He couldn't look away, and he wasn't sure why. He always wondered why there were so many Grecian and Roman myths of men that got cursed by nymphs, knowing they were in the wrong for staring but doing so anyway. Apparently, he was one of them now--not the kind of company he wanted to keep. The girl turned towards him and he could make out two pigtails over her shoulders. Though he couldn't see much else he knew she was looking at him, so he did the only thing he could think to do. He waved, briefly, then quickly shoved his hand in his pocket and began to turn away. From the side of his vision, he watched her stiffen before darting away into the safety of the attic.
Man, he really needed to stop waving at people. Luka had taken a few steps on his way back home when he heard a door clatter shut and footsteps quickly running across the street, and he turned again to see someone--to see her rushing towards him. Luka barely had a moment to register that he knew who she was. To revel in the too-big blue eyes, the nervous stutter of her steps, the dark fall of her bangs across her forehead. Marinette closed the gap in seconds, arms around his neck and lips on his.
He gasped in surprise, and she pressed the advantage, sweet strawberry-tasting lips hungry against his. Arousal tore through him instantaneously. Luka wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer, winning a soft heady moan from her throat. After the longest and shortest few seconds of his life, she drew away first, and his now slick lips felt the cold bitterly. Forehead still resting on his collarbone, Marinette loosened one arm from his neck and drew away from him just enough to give him a half-hearted punch on the shoulder.
"You were supposed to text me," she mumbled.
He tucked her head beneath his chin, smelling the sweet honey scent of her shampoo. "'M sorry," he said back. "Bad with words."
Marinette hummed, her breath tickling his exposed skin. "This is good too."
After a moment--"You waited for me."
He heard a miserable sort of smile in her voice. "You didn't give me much of a choice."
Luka laughed softly, glad that she'd been counting the hours as much as he had. "Let me show you something," he said. Luka gently prized his way out of her grasp and took her hand, interlacing their fingers just as he had a month ago. Marinette pushed her side into his and let him lead her across the courtyard. He stopped them by the trees that lined the park, facing the street. "See that store?" he asked, nodding his head at Paradis des Cordes darkened and shuttered windows. "They repair and sell guitars, among other things. They've got a lot of pianos, too. My first day is tomorrow."
She frowned, looking up at him. "First day? When did you--?"
Luka shrugged, an easy smile on his lips. "I just flew in today; met my boss a few hours ago. He's a nice guy--I think I'll like it."
Marinette looked back behind them, eyes still able to make out the shadow of her house and parent's store. "Was this…did you plan this?"
"No, that was all luck. I didn't even know where I'd be able to find you when I got here. Imagine my surprise when I found out," he said with a laugh. "I almost didn't live long enough to find out. I'll be honest, I've imagined a lot of ways to die," and in his more desperate times, had even thought that a few of those ways might not be too bad, "but being crushed by a giant pastry monster wasn't on my list."
Marinette snorted playfully, "Believe me, by the end of the year you'll probably get to add way weirder experiences to your bingo card. I know I have. Oh, but, um--sorry for not warning you. About the…monster…stuff. I wasn't really thinking about it last time. Maybe if you texted," she tacked on with a squeeze on his fingers and an angry pout.
He grinned at her. "Would I have gotten that nice of a 'welcome to Paris' kiss if I had?"
"It took a lot of courage to give you my number, you know!"
Luka let go of her hand so he could put an arm around her instead, pulling her into his shoulder. "Guess you're going to have to keep giving me an earful about it. But that does mean seeing a lot more of me if you're up for it."
Marinette huffed, dropping her head on his shoulder. "You must be a glutton for punishment, hanging around me."
"Marinette, if you're a punishment I'll send myself to hell."
A faint rose blush dappled her face. "It sounds like the Akuma today almost did the job for you."
"Almost--but Ladybug saved me. She seems good with that 'just in the Knick of time' business," Luka said. Marinette hummed and nodded, head resting on his shoulder. "Do you know her well?"
Marinette stiffened against his shoulder. "I guess, um--she's saved me a few times. W-why?"
"No particular reason. People in Paris seem to trust her. Do you?"
She relaxed again; eyes trained on the storefronts just beyond the street. "As much as I trust myself, I guess. She's…a professional. She wants people to be able to trust her to do the right thing, and…and she tries." Marinette looked up at him from beneath her long eyelashes shyly, although why she seemed so bashful he wasn't sure. "Do you like her?"
Luka took a deep breath, letting it go to the count of five. He wanted to--that was all he could say for sure at the moment. If she was the Guardian, he'd want to get to know her and see her in the way everyone else saw her. He wanted to trust her too. "It seems like her heart's in the right place. Sounds like she's been keeping you safe, and I like that."
Marinette gave a short laugh before stopping, the blue in her eyes churning. A line appeared between her brows as she thought--but was cleared when she yawned.
"Guess I should get you back home, huh?" He watched Marinette, his little squirrel, get nervous and twitchy.
"But I don't want to," she said.
Luka nudged them back towards her house regardless. "I think we both deserve some shut-eye. As much as I'd like to steal you for the night, I don't think the old man I'm renting from would appreciate policemen at his place searching for the punk who kidnapped the baker's daughter."
If her blush was rose before, now it was a deep scarlet. Luka laughed when all that came from her mouth was jumbled word salad. He stopped them across the street from the bakery and took both her hands in his, lowering his head to kiss her knuckles reverently. "It's alright," he whispered on her skin. "Now you know where I work. You won't lose me again."
Ladybug shoved the well-worn desk in the boiler room of her old middle school closer to the dim light above. The cord to the lamp stretched tenuously but stayed plugged in. As long as no one walked straight into it, everything would be fine. She hated this place. Whenever someone had hurt feelings or trauma, they always ran straight to the old boiler room because apparently to feel sad you also needed to be surrounded by creepy. Still, it was the only neutral ground she could think of where no one would bother them that was still semi-well-lit.
Viperion showed up at 9pm on the dot, wrinkling his nose at the musty smell and the grim interior. “I still don’t understand why we can’t do this as normal people in a relatively normal place,” he said, rapping his knuckles on a pipe by the door.
"We are normal superheroes--at least one of us is--and a school is a relatively normal place," she snapped back. She didn't know why it was so hard for him to comprehend the concept of secret identities and why they were so important, but it had been. In the end, he accepted her terms--if they were going to sit and chat as he wanted, then he would have to do it her way. Ladybug sat in the old discarded wooden chair that she pushed behind the desk and motioned for him to do the same on the other end.
They stared at each other for a moment and awkwardness settled in. He looked away, rubbing his neck. She thought about starting the conversation, but he was the one who apparently had so much to say, so she wasn't going to give him an out now. She could hear water slowly drip, drip, dripping somewhere in a corner.
"How long have you been the Guardian?" he asked, quietly, eyes still concentrating on the corner of the desk with the graffiti.
Ladybug had been prepared to bicker all night--it had been 2 days since she'd enacted the tactical retreat at Place des Vosges, and she still felt bitter that she'd gotten so excited he might cooperate and hand over the Miraculouses. His invitation to talk this morning after the day’s Akuma attack had also gotten a rise out of her, but now that he was sitting there as if the flame had gone out of him her reply was a bit softer, even if it still had an edge. She shrugged; arms crossed. "Not very long, a few months."
His blue eyes shot up to hers, a studious frown on his face. "Who was it, then, before you?"
She held up a hand first, "Hey, question for question, bub. This is supposed to be equal. Me next. How did you get the Snake and the Mouse Miraculous?"
"Sorry. The Snake Miraculous came from its last holder, Sangpo. The Mouse Miraculous I found on my own."
She pursed her lips. He wasn't exactly forthcoming with details, but she'd get them eventually. She answered his previous question. "The last Guardian of the Miracle Box was a man named Fu. He transferred ownership to me after…long story. So, you said this Shangpo guy was the last holder, where did he find it?"
"Sangpo. He didn't find it. It was given to him by the Celestial Guardian. When he was too old to use it, he returned back to The Order to serve as one of the monks in the temple. …How long has the Miracle Box been in France?"
So, this previous Snake holder had to be at least as old as Master Fu, although she’d never heard the term Celestial Guardian before. She had assumed that Viperion just stumbled across the term Guardian, but she was starting to get a sinking feeling that he knew a lot more than he was letting on. "Uh, that I don't think I can answer. I mean, Fu was old old, so probably awhile. But he wasn't exactly forthcoming with details. How long have you had the Snake and Mouse?"
Viperion paused at that. "The Snake…I guess since I was 12, maybe 14. The Mouse was a lot more…recent, I guess."
Ladybug frowned. "Hey, you're being cagey! And how can you not remember if it was 12 or 14?"
"We're both being cagey," he sighed. "This isn't exactly how I wanted this part to go. I want to work with you. I promised Sangpo I'd make sure that if any of the Miraculous had survived, I'd keep them safe. You said yourself the Butterfly and the Peacock aren't in good hands."
"They aren't, but I don't know why you suddenly care about using the Miraculouses properly. Weren't you just in New York using them to spin a profit? I literally caught you red-handed." They glared at each other over the desk.
"There were extenuating circumstances. It's not like I go out and commit felonies. If I hadn't done what I did, Mullo would still be sick."
So, what, he'd been out collecting money for a mouse doctor? "The only person I know who could cure Kwamis was Master Fu," she said, not so happily remembering the day Tikki had gotten sick.
Viperion sighed impatiently. "If this Master Fu guy was a real Guardian, he'd have been taught the same techniques I used, and they didn't work. Believe me, I tried." Viperion rubbed his eyes, and he suddenly looked a lot older than he had moments ago. "What she was sick with wasn't just some flu, it was…it was enough to kill a person. I was in New York looking for a cure for her--something I'd caught wind of in California. And it worked, but it wasn't easy to get."
Ladybug's mind tried to keep track of all the questions that popped into her head as he spoke--how would he know techniques that Master Fu would have used? Did he really know more than she did? What was it that Mullo had gotten sick with, and who had died? How did you just "catch wind" of a magic cure? And what exactly did he have to do to get it? She didn't get the chance to ask.
"So, she's been cured which is all well and good, but there's another problem. When I found the Miraculous, it was broken, and the book that the Guardian Precepts mentions isn't one I have--"
Ladybug pressed her fingers to her temples, "Wait, wait, wait--give me a minute to--what the hell are the Guardian Precepts?"
Viperion's mouth was still hung open from when he'd been cut off mid-sentence, but now he was just staring at her like she was a freak. He snapped his mouth shut and rubbed the back of his neck again before speaking. "I wondered this when you mentioned your Master before, but…how much did he teach you? About…all of this?"
Ladybug had always suspected there was a lot she didn't know, and she'd told Master Fu over and over that she didn't feel ready, that she felt like she was drowning with it all, but he just…he had so much faith in her. So much faith that it made her feel bad that she was doubting herself when he saw so much in her. For a moment, it was a relief that there was someone, even if she didn't particularly like that someone, who thought Master Fu might have left her unprepared too. Ladybug leaned back in her chair. "I mean…the basics, I thought. The names of all the Kwamis, what their powers were…why the Miracle Box was important, and why I needed to keep my identity a secret. Not to use the power for selfish reasons." Basic stuff.
Viperion seemed to deflate a bit, and inadequacy came rushing back through her like a tornado. "I mean, we didn't have a lot of time--just a year. And I didn't even know he existed for most of it, a-and when I did, fighting Hawk Moth and then Mayura took most of my time…"
He shook his head and leaned back in his chair, too, the pair of them both looking fairly dejected. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean for you to…if I made you feel bad, I didn't mean to. I guess I was hoping you would know more than I would, but it sounds like we were put in the same spot."
Ladybug inhaled sharply, his soft smile, the sad dejected laugh--he meant it, at least, and for a moment she felt just a little bit less alone. How often had she wished someone else would get it? Maybe they had gotten off on the wrong foot. Ladybug shifted in her seat, interlocking her fingers nervously. "I'm sorry, too. I, um, might have been a bit…Chat Noir says I can be…"
The corners of Luka's mouth tilted up. "Passionate."
Ladybug snorted. "A nice word for a perfectionist control freak."
Viperion laughed, and with it, some tension left her body. It was a nice sound. She didn't mind it. "I don't think he ever said that. Lots of other flattering things, though."
"He's a smooth talker; don't be fooled," she said, not able to help a small smile.
Viperion rested his chin in his hand, leaning over the desk slightly now. "So, you are dating?"
Ladybug sputtered, nearly knocking herself out of the chair. "We are not!!"
The mischievous spark was back in his eyes. Apparently, the smug son of a bitch was in there still and lurking just under the surface, waiting to bite her in the ass. "My apologies, then. You clearly have no feelings whatsoever for him."
"I don't! I have a…" she stumbled, thinking of Luka and his lips and being curled up under his arm, and also thinking about how they'd never actually said what they were to each other. "A somebody," she settled for instead with a sharp nod of her head. "And before that, there was…not important. Anyway, I don't even know who Chat Noir is. And that's for a good reason; the kind of reason that time travelers get involved in. But that's a different story," She said, waving her hand dismissively. "Back to what we were talking about. I guess a non-punchy partnership would be good."
"I'm glad to hear it," he said. He took another look around the room, "But next time, I pick the meeting spot."
She could accept that. Especially if it meant she could learn all the things she was supposed to know. Maybe then she could feel like a real Guardian, and with Viperion and his power, maybe they would really be able to turn the tide on Hawk Moth… That wasn't even the only thing that was going right for her at the moment. She was supposed to hear back about the Lanvin apprenticeship in the next month or so, and now Luka was here… Things could be good. Things could be really getting good in her life.
Something in her brain, the part she hated most of all, whispered, But isn't that when everything goes wrong?
My rant about volume 34 (and Star and Stripe)
OK BUCKLE UP because I’m annoyed. I usually try to find SOMETHING positive to say, but no. Volume 34 has got me so pissed it’s not even funny at this point.
If you like Star and Stripe and love this new volume, more power to you. I'm glad Horikoshi released something you enjoyed. This is just my opinion, and you are in no way required to agree. I just needed to get this off my chest.
Tangent incoming:
When the Star fight happened in the manga, the most I could compliment it was that the fight was cool to look at. But Star as a character DEEPLY bothered me for the following reasons:
She was introduced with basically no set up (because a single silhouette isn’t enough this late in the game. At this point, we should know every character unless they are a random background dude)
She existed as a plot device to solve a problem that could have been solved a million different ways (if you want to nerf Shigaraki, just say that being woken up early caused him to lose some quirks! Also, if you need an excuse for why pros around the world aren’t helping, JUST MAKE SOMETHING UP)
She did not exist outside of her purpose as a plot device (Re-Destro was also a very obvious plot device to give Shigaraki power, but at least he existed beyond that. He had his own thing going on and tied into larger story aspects, like his ties to Destro)
Her whole arc felt like grinding the story to a halt only to give us information that doesn’t matter now (at least with Nagant, the more we learned about her past the more we implicitly learned about the HPSC, Hawks, and hero society as a whole. Star’s backstory only told us about her and now it doesn’t matter)
The whole arc also felt pointless because we KNEW she (a random side character) wouldn't be the one to kill Shigaraki (the main villain). It's one thing to have these build-up fights throughout the series (Deku vs. Overhaul, Shigaraki vs. Re-Destro) even if we know the main characters are safe, but Star's fight came so close to the end that we shouldn't have had any new characters introduced at that point, AND it felt like a waste of time to pretend there was even a chance she would win
The only positive thing I will say about her fight (besides the fact that it looked cool) is that, for the situation Hori put himself in, he wrote the best way to get out of it. Having her die with her quirk would have felt even more pointless, and having Shigaraki get her quirk would have felt too contrived and made him way too op, so yeah. For where he put the story, Horikoshi found a clever way out of it. (But, like I said before, he could have nerfed Shigaraki in a variety of other ways).
Ok onto my issues with the volume
I 100% understand why she is on the cover this volume, but I don’t understand why she’s the ONLY person on the cover. Like yes, as a major player in this arc she should definitely feature, but make it a sort of “good vs evil” thing. Put AFO or Shigaraki on there. I saw someone say it should have mirrored Nagant’s cover which YES! Star and Nagant were already parallels, give them similar covers!
Instead, Star gets a solo cover. You want to know the other characters who have received solo covers? Shoto (5), Bakugo (7), All Might (11), Deku (15), Mirio (17), Shigaraki (25), and Dabi (30). All very important, and all justified (I mean, I think volume 15's cover sucks, but that's just me. Deku's the main character though, so his presence is justified). You know who hasn't received a solo cover yet? ANY OF THE GIRLS. That's right: Star and Stripe, the character who died 6 chapters after her introduction, is the first female character to get a solo cover
But no, Star didn't only get the cover, she also got the spine. I can hear you asking "why does that matter?" and I'll tell you!
In the early days of MHA volumes, the spines tried to feature as many 1A kids as possible. Usually they tried to put kids on volumes where they did something (like Aoyama being on volume 10 because he saved Tokoyami), but sometimes that didn't work (like most of the Overhaul volumes having students who weren't even present). Still, when they could, they tried to put people on volumes where they were important. The only non-1A characters they put on spines prior to running out were All Might, Aizawa, and Mirio.
After they ran out of 1A kids, they began putting villains, Pro Heroes, and Nejire (so, like Mirio, they're putting other UA students). Everyone they chose was also a main character or, at least, a major enough character that we know them (Nezu, Mt. Lady, Nejire).
Here's the main thing though: they never put a character on the spine twice. Look at something like volume 27; Twice and Hawks are both equally important, but Twice was on the spine in volume 24, so the obvious choice was to go for Hawks. You can also look at something like volume 30. The obvious choice would have been Dabi, but Horikoshi went with Nejire because he is likely saving Dabi for a future volume.
So now let's look at Star and Stripe. She's definitely featured prominently in volume 34 and she hasn't been on a spine before, but she's not a main character. The worst part? She never will be because she'd dead. She can't gain more importance after the fact because she's gone! She has contributed everything she could to the story.
I actually excused this choice when I first saw it because I assumed the volume would end of 337 (the "you can still be a hero" panel) and I reasoned that "yeah, there was no one else that could have been on the spine. Shigaraki and Aoyama already featured, AFO is probably being saved for later, I get why they did this."
But now we know the volume ends at 339 and you know who features PROMINENTLY in 339 (and at the end of 338)? HATSUME. We've known her from the beginning and she's had plenty of plot relevant moments, so she would have been a great character to have on the spine.
Now, you could argue that Hatsume will be on a future volume spine since she is helping during the final fight, and you'd be right, but there are so many characters who have yet to be featured on spines that you could always have found a replacement for Hatsume if she had been used here. You could also just pull what volume 31 did and put a random character on the spine despite them not being in the volume.
Less important, but it also annoys me that the volume is called "America" (the English version will likely be named "United States of America"). I personally think "parting gift" would have been an amazing volume title since it's a little more "in touch" with the spirit of the volume, but whatever. Nothing we can do at this point. I just felt like "America", when combined with the cover and spine, was just icing on the cake.
It's just so weird that this much attention is being given to Star because she's not a main character and never will be. We may be told the aftereffects she had on Shigaraki, but Star herself won't do anything else.
Star's whole arc felt like something from a different series, and now her volume feels like that too. Like she's a side-story that takes place separate from the main events of MHA. Points for consistency, I guess.
Thanks for letting me vent
Update: The back cover is Aoyama. I get why, he's IMPORTANT. This is very much his volume too, and I actually wrote about why this picture has a secret meaning but like... Congrats to Shigaraki and AFO for not being represented ONCE in this entire volume. It's honestly impressive at this point. I hope they're on the inner jacket, but at this point my hopes are so low I wouldn't be surprised if it were Hagakure
I am honestly baffled and deeply sad over how people (and lgbt+ ones at that) invalidate him so much :( I'm in my late twenties, almost 30 and even though I've known since I was 11 that I liked girls as well as boys, the only one from back home I ever came out to, is my mom, like literally a few years ago. Mainly I think cause I never really had a real relationship that lasted anyway and also I'm from a small town where everyone know each other, and it's just not easy for some of us.. (1/4)
Anyways, seeing since I'm not fully 'out' and also tend to use 'ambigious' ways to talk about it, cause I'm still not sure if I want to use bi or just queer or what - I guess I'm not valid either huh? I'm still going through a (almost 2 decades) long 'phase' :P Like even WITH 'experience' you can be unsure of labels/wanting to be out or not etc. Also how dare these people just assume Dream's never thought of his sexuality before he met George and 'dnf' happened? And even if George was the first one he (if he does) felt that way about, so what? That happens. My first crush on a girl was my best friend way back then. She was 'the start' for me. To say we forced him to come out, invalidating him when he said he likes men too (even if it is just some or even ONE) and saying he will just realise he's really straight after all? Like the thing is it doesn't matter if the latter were to happen someday, it's still fucking awful to say such a thing when he just wants to be accepted for feeling what he feels. I totally understand his fear of being afraid of choosing a label in case of being wrong about it later and getting hate, cause these people here are proving that point fucking perfectly already… / Sorry end of long rant. I usually don't even bother commenting on these things but the audacity off these people in your inbox are making me annoyed today lol.
Thank you for sending this to meand yes you are so right. so many younger queer people/queer people brought up mostly around acceptance, seem to have this view of queerness and how it affects a person that baffles me to no end.
I see it every day: Im in my mid twenties, born and rised in Poland which is a very homophobic country, while my sister is 10 years younger than me and has been living in England for most of her life. We are both bisexual but the difference of how we view queerness is astounding. You add our mother to the mix who is also bisexual but spent literally over 30 yers of her life in Poland, and it's like a different world. To the point where my sister constantly questions if my mother is bisexual just because my mother was brought up to think straight relationships are more valuable and socially better, and those are the ones she enters, despite her VERY CLEAR bisexuality.
i will blame tik tok and call it a day.
Sitting To Know Your Collection January Roundup
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Week 1 (January 5th- January 7th)
Album: Learning Logic (2016) by Camilla Recchio Play Count: 5-ish times. Top 2 Tracks: I’m Gone (Track 9) I Don’t Wanna (Track 2)
I started week one a little late, cause the idea for this challenge/project came to me late, but I still managed to get a few good listens in. I had the wheel picker spit an album from my collection out and this is what it gave me. If you haven’t heard Camilla Recchio before I highly recommend you check her out. Listening these last few days just reinforces how good I think she is. The album is soulful and vibey and I didn’t mind having it on repeat. Solid first week.
__________________________________________________________________
Week 2 (January 8th - January 14th)
Album: Peace Love Death Metal (2004) by Eagles Of Death Metal Play Count: 4 Top 2 Tracks: San Berdoo Sunburn (Track 13) Whorehopping “Shit, Goddamn” (Track 12)
Not gonna lie I was not immediately siked for this one. I thought I was gonna have to sit through a week of death metal on repeat and although I do enjoy metal, I just wasn’t ready for that lol. Now that I’ve given it a few plays I can first tell y’all I was wrong, it’s for sure not death metal and second it was not bad at all. It had a funky, classic rock kind of vibe and I was actually super here for it. I think the metal dudes would get down with them for sure.
I got this CD sometime last year I believe, when my boss was getting rid of a whole bunch of CD’s cause it seemed cool and different and I don’t have much metal in my collection lol and it’s for sure staying. I took a chance and that chance paid off. There were some things I didn’t completely rock with, but for the most part I’d check out whatever dive bar these folks are playing at. Week 2 was the prime example of why I’m doing this.
Also I just checked their Instagram and their look matches PERFECTLY to this sound. Love the mustaches, love the suits, love the entire energy.
Weeks 3 + 4 (January 15th - January 22nd)
Week 3 Album: Corinne Bailey Rae North American 2X Disc Deluxe Edition (2007) *Emphasis on the 2nd disc by Corinne Bailey Rae. Play Count: 4 with 1 full run through. Top 2 Tracks: I’d Like To Weekender Remix (Track 8) Daydreaming (Track 6)
Week 4 Album: I Am Me (2005) by Ashlee Simpson Ross Play Count: 5 Top 2 Tracks: Catch Me When I Fall (Track 8) Say Goodbye (Track 11)
Sorry this is a long one. You’re getting a double feature this week, because I paused my posts cause that was one of the ways I was participating in the strike that was happening last week. Anyways, but not really cause Free Palestine, both albums were good.
Corinne Bailey Rae’s self titled is one of my favorite albums of all time, however this second disc took me a minute to get into. The flow just wasn’t as automatic as I thought it would be, but it eventually picked up with help from the lyrics and a full run through of both discs. Once you’re there, you’re vibing.
Made an exception for this album because of the second disc that I had never listened to.
As for week 4, it was automatic with I Am Me. The album starts with Boyfriend, which is never not a good time and just continued from there. It was fun and poppy and had that little rock edge all the pop girls who dated rocker guys from that era had. Good stuff. __________________________________________________________________
Week 5 (January 29th - February 4th)
Album: PETALS for ARMOR (2020) by Hayley Williams Play Count: 4 Top 2 Tracks: Why We Ever (Track 10) Sudden Desire (Track 5)
Not gonna lie this one wasn’t automatic for me, like I thought it would be. It took a moment and even then I wasn’t sure. That being said the 80’s vibe did grow on me and the songs that I wasn’t really feeling at the beginning almost became favorites, particularly “Roses/Lotus/Violet/Iris” and “Simmer.” I can see the bleed from what Paramore is putting out and her solo work, even if it’s only a slight bleed. It’s Hayley Williams so you’ll probably find something to like.
PS: I saved this one from getting tossed at the library and I’m glad it got picked cause it makes me not regret saving something I didn’t have space for.
.
.
So those are the albums that I sat with in January. I think it was a good variety. Which one would you check out?
