Chapter 10: Black Dog
September 24, 1976 - Friday 11:00 pm
As you walked outside of the portrait and onto the halls you realised how much lonelier the school looked like at night. Of course, you’d been out at night on your first night, back then you’d been hanging out with Remus and James and Peter, but right now, being just you and Lily, it all felt bigger, darker. So you decided to fill the emptiness with a conversation.
“So…. You and James?” You said with a raised eyebrow.
“There is no me and James,” Lily replied.
“Aw, come on.” You nudged her again “You can trust me.”
She drew in a deep breath “It’s just that… James Potter is– he’s infuriating!” She told you. “With all his pranks and charm and his constant flirting and–“
“–and you liked it when you kissed him, didn’t you?” You asked, she instantly turned red, you smiled “and there’s nothing wrong with that. Who knows? You may discover other things about James, things that make you forgive those you dislike.”
She frowned, genuinely thinking about it “Well, I guess objectively… I mean… He’s pretty good-looking.”
You agreed “and he’s funny as well. And… best part–” you made a dramatic pause “–he’s madly in love with you.”
She shook her head in disbelief, with a smile plastered on her face anyway. But then she decided to turn things around “What about you and Sirius?”
You snapped your head towards her “What’s with me and Sirius?”
“Well, after that summer he met you he was all mopy for months. He told me a lot of things about you, you couldn’t even get him to shut up. And then he started going out with girls and dumping them shortly after. I think he was trying to get his mind off you,” she said “and… I don’t know, he said you were the one to kiss him first, which is why assumed you liked him.”
“I did.”
“Did?”
You sighed “It’s hard not to fall for Sirius Black,” you said, “he’s exceptionally charming, not to mention beautiful.”
Lily shrugged “If you like the prince-y type.”
“Well,” you said with a frown “I am weak like that, can’t help but like beautiful people,” you said dramatically “And he’s so playful, and when he gets riled up, he looks adorable too, it’s fun to tease him.”
“So you still like him,” Lily replied, matter of factly.
“Well even if I did, last time I acted upon my feelings things didn’t end well. I was heartbroken, and I thought he had completely forgotten about me. All that’s in the past obviously, and I know he didn’t mean to ghost me, but I… It’s just that… It took time to get over him.”
Lily nodded, she knew just how complicated Sirius could be “Personally, I think if he likes you, and you like him, you should just start dating.”
You laughed at that “Look who’s talking.”
“I mean… You and Sirius would make a fantastic couple.”
“Yeah, you and Potter would make beautiful babies,” you retorted.
She lightly hit you with the back of her hand, “Enough boy talk.”
You laughed, it was so easy to see Lily’s newfound feeling for James, you just loved to tease her, she’d get red and flustered and she was adorable. And objectively speaking, as she had said herself, you really did think she and James would make a wonderful pair.
Fifteen minutes later you were already on the doors that lead outside. You looked up, the moon was already in the sky, looking majestic as ever, stars shining brightly. The wind was blowing your hair and robes, so you took a deep breath of the crisp night air and smiled
Hogwarts at night carried an even more magical air to it than it did in the mornings. You were walking behind Lily when you heard a distant howl that made you shiver, your hair flowing still, strong wind blowing towards the distant trees. “Did you hear that?”  You asked her, walking closer, it was the same type of howl that haunted your dreams.
“Heard what?” Lily asked, playing dumb. She knew what it was, she had figured Remus was a werewolf a couple of years back, and she asked him about it when he seemed ready to tell her, they had a really nice conversation that day, it was probably around the time they became really close.
“The creepy howl?” You said with a frown, was it possible it was all in your head, maybe something about the book Nina gave you had permeated your head enough to cause mild hallucinations, maybe it was sleep deprivation. All though, you didn’t really feel like you were much sleep-deprived.
She shook her head, and you continued walking beside her. Once you were in the greenhouses you both grabbed some gardening tools and walked towards the fluxweed. You grabbed a small shovel and started to carefully dig around the roots, to avoid hurting them, while Lily gently pulled the plant from the top, and lit up the area with her wand. Eventually, you put on a pair of gloves and started digging with your own hands. You heard another howl, this one was sharper and not as deep as the first, it also sounded a lot closer.
“You surely heard that one, didn’t you?” You asked, a chill running through your spine, the hairs from your arm standing on end.
Lily couldn’t deny it, it had been very obvious, and if she did, you may start thinking you were crazy yourself. So she did the most logical thing she could, and lied. “Must be Fang, Hagrid’s dog.”
“A dog? So loud?” You asked.
“You should see him,” she replied, not wanting to get deeper into the lie.
You nodded and continued to pull the fluxweed together. “Who’s Hagrid, by the way?”
“Oh that’s right, we should probably introduce you to him. I guess you didn’t come on the boats like the first years. He’s the gamekeeper, you’d like him.”
You finally managed to dig out all the roots, Lily grabbed the plant and carefully placed it on a satchel she’d brought. You then went for the second plant. A couple of minutes later you were done. And the two of you smiled satisfied, walking towards the closet and leaving all the tools carefully in their place.
You heard another howl, the deeper one this time. The two howls could not possibly be from the same animal. But you realised you sounded paranoid, so you decided to drop the subject and avoid mentioning them anymore.
Once you were done the two of you started walking back to the common room, as you crossed the long stone hall that led you back to the castle you saw something move, it was back in the forbidden forest. You turned, trying to see what was happening better, but the wind was making your hair get in the way, you only managed to see 3 dark figures, running very, very fast through the edges of the forest. Those night vision glasses that you considered designing for your magical theory class, seemed like they would be awfully useful now, maybe you could make more than one of the things you’d thought of originally.
Lily looked at you nervously, she could tell the boys were trying to keep Moony in check by the way some of the shadows pushed onto the others. Something was happening, and she knew it was best to get back to the common room as soon as possible. So she grabbed your arm lightly and pulled you from the window’s arch, “Come on, I’m kind of getting cold.”
“But Lily, didn’t you see those figures?” You asked her as you let her guide you towards the castle.
“It must be the centaurs from the forbidden forest,” she said, as casually as she could, picking up the peace regardless “Sometimes they come out of their hiding spots to talk to Hagrid.”
“Really?” You asked, not sounding too convinced.
“Yeah, totally,” Lily said, basically dragging you through the big doors.
Once inside the castle, the two of you walked back to the dorms. And after setting your fluxweed on a little string to dry, the two of you went to your respective beds.
That night the nightmares came again, you running from the wolf, the howls, the dark tunnel. It was even worse than before, it felt so real that when you woke up you were drenched in sweat. Your light cotton shirt felt soggy and gross. You took a deep breath and looked at the bright green clock on the wall, it was 4am but you sure as hell did not want to go back to sleep. So you went into your shared bathroom and cast a silencing spell, as not to wake the girls up.
You started running a hot bath for yourself. Perhaps that would help you relax from the nightmare. And you remembered you had a bath potion somewhere in your bags. Something that was meant to be relaxing, so you cast a footstep-silencing charm too and went out to get it. As you were rummaging through your bag Mary woke up, and saw you there, which made her frown “You ok love?” She whispered.
You nodded “Just having a hard time sleeping,” you whispered back. She didn’t seem convinced but decided to give you some space, she knew you’d ask for help should you need it.
Once you had your potion, you gave her a small smile and entered the bathroom again. The water was already halfway filling the tub and you lightly poured half of the potion on it, turning the bath water a light blue colour, it shimmered and smelled like the sea. You closed your eyes and delighted in the already calming smell. You played with the water and after a couple of minutes peeled off your sweat-drenched clothes and submerged in the tub.  As you continued to toy with the water you felt your ring slip off. You fished for it lazily and set it near the sink. As you relaxed in the bath, you dozed off, waking up as some soft dawn rays hit your face directly from the small window. You woke up with a gasp, you had fallen asleep, but… there had been no nightmares. You wondered what time it was, you had to be ready for flying, so you got out as quickly as possible, unplugging the bath with a wave of your wand, not even bothering to check the time. Once outside you started putting on some thick clothes for the cold morning ahead.
Marlene had gone into the bathroom shortly after, and just as you grabbed your broom, she called for you “Hey, (Y/N)!” She said, “You forgot this.” She handed over your ring.
“Oh, thanks!” You said to her and smiled. Before waving goodbye and running out. By the time you were down at the common room, it was already 6:00. You always flew at 5:30 on Saturdays, so when you saw neither Sirius nor James, you assumed they had gone off without you so you walked outside.
“Good morning (Y/N)! Going alone today?” Asked the lady from the portrait.
You turned to her with a frown “Haven’t the boys left already?”
“Hmm…” she said “I’m not sure, I don’t think I’ve seen them since yesterday actually.”
“Yesterday?”
She nodded “Have you seen them, Charles?” She asked to another painting.
“Not at all,” said the tall wizard in the painting as he poured a bit of potion into a vase.
“Perhaps they’re out doing their pranks,” said the lady as you looked at her, still frowning.
“Yeah, probably,” you agreed, still frowning. You'd guess James would have told you he wasn’t going to fly this morning, maybe they forgot, or maybe their prank was so top secret he couldn’t. You waved the portraits goodbye and walked towards the courtyard with your broom in hand.
From there you took off and started flying around the castle until you saw a big black dog, lying near the entrance of the forbidden forest. You looked at it with concern, and flew towards it, hovering a few metres above. The dog looked dazed like it was fighting between consciousness and sleep. It had a light cut over his shoulder, and there was a lot of bIood surrounding him, but it didn’t look like his own. You took a deep breath, you had to help him. This dog may be Fang, Hagrid’s dog, the one Lily told you about yesterday, and you wouldn’t want anyone’s dog to be lying there unconscious, but you also knew you had to be cautious, The dog was so big it could easily bite your hand off.
So, after some quick thinking, you decided to slowly, and steadily land, a little far from the dog, you let your broom fall on the ground, as you carefully walked towards the creature. The dog itself was stunning, it had dark thick fur, and  stunning light blue eyes. “Hey buddy,” you said, trying not to sound as nervous as you were. “I’m here to help all right, please don’t bite me.”
The dog seemed to look at you lazily for a second, fixing his gaze on your face, before letting his face fall to the ground again, tired. Well, he wasn’t going to bite you, that was good. You finally leaned in close enough to touch it, and you carefully placed your hand over his head. He was cold, very cold, he might have been lying there for a while. You quickly took off your sweater and placed it over him. It was the same thick sweater Sirius’ had altered the colour off weeks ago.
“You must have had a pretty rough night, eh?” You told him softly, digging on the ground lightly in front of his snout, doing it slowly, so as not to scare him “aguamenti,” you said, filling the little hole you dug with water for the dog to drink “Where you the one howling so desperately?” You said, as you grabbed a handkerchief from your pocket and dipped it in some water to clean his wound. The dog flinched as you placed the cloth on his open gush, but it didn’t become aggressive.
You didn’t know much about caring for hurt animals, but you remembered reading somewhere that calendula was good for open wounds and decided to test your luck “Accio Calendula?” a small plant with orange flowers came flying towards your face, you managed to catch it with your hands and quickly started pulling the petals from the small flowers. You then used some nearby rocks to grind the petals, adding a bit of water to turn the mixture into a paste. There wasn’t much of it, but you figured it would be enough. “All right Fang,” you said “This may or may not hurt like hell. Please don’t bite my face off if it does, m’kay?”
After taking a deep breath you grabbed the paste with your finger and placed it right over the dog’s wound. The dog growled, protesting, but did not attempt to move away from you. Once you were done, you wiped the stickiness of your fingers on the grass. And the dog nudged your hand, softly moving his head beneath it. Did he want you to pet him?
You complied, running your fingers through his head, scratching near his ear carefully, he seemed at ease. At some point the dog placed his entire head over your lap, enjoying the way your hands ran up and down his fur. When he looked better, you nudged him slightly “Don’t you think we should go to your owner? I’m sure Hagrid’s worried about his dog missing.” Instead of standing excitedly at the mention of his owner, the dog sank deeper into your lap, nudging you with his head, so you didn’t stop petting him. “All right, big boy,” you said, “I suppose we can stay here a bit longer.”
As you lay in the grass with the dog, you started feeling your stomach rumble. It must already be breakfast time, you thought, and then wondered if the dog was feeling the same way “Aren’t you hungry?” You asked him, as if he could understand. And the dog, the bIoody dog, nodded! You were shocked, it must have been a coincidence, or maybe Hagrid’s dog was magical somehow. “Well then buddy, I’ll go get the two of us something to eat all right. I’ll be quick, I promise.” You said, carefully standing up and running towards your broom.
Once you landed back at the courtyard you ran towards the kitchen and you bumped into James, who looked dishevelled and tired “Sorry!” You said as you saw him “You ok?” You asked with a frown “I… kind of expected to see you in the morning.”
James nodded “Sorry about that, we had a long night.” He told you, and shook his nose a little “Were you with Sirius?”
You shrugged at the question, “No, I… haven't seen him since yesterday,” you answered honestly, but James could smell Sirius on you. “I guessed you’d be with him.”
“Yeah,” he said with a nod “We were together, but… uh– we lost him at some point, I was hoping he’d gotten back to the common room.”
“Was the prank successful at least?” You asked kindly.
James looked at you with a frown and raised his eyebrows when he realised what was going on, you thought they’d been out planning a prank, so he nodded “We… had some mishaps.”
“I’m really sorry to hear that,” you said, placing an understanding hand on his shoulders “Anyway…” the sense of urgency was strong, and you had to go back to check on the dog “I’ve got to run, I’m trying to bring some food for Fang, he was badly hurt, I found him while flying.”
“Fang?” James asked with a frown.
You nodded, already a few metres away from him “Hagrid’s dog!” You clarified, running towards the kitchens.
“Hagrid’s dog?!”
“Big black dog, stunning specimen, a little threatening from afar?” You said last.
“Oh… Fang… right.” James said. So, you had been with Sirius after all, you just didn’t know it.
Once you got to the kitchens you spotted Nimbletwist and you politely asked her for something with meat on it. She nodded and quickly wrapped some food up for you.
“Thank you,” you said kindly “You’ve always been willing to help me.”
“It’s ma’ pleasure to help ye’ Master (Y/N),” she said with a smile, as she handed it over.
Once you held it secure, you ran towards the courtyard again, grabbing onto your broom, which you’d left lying on a corner there, you took off and quickly flew towards the place you’d found Fang, but he was gone. You walked around the place in which you’d found him, even walking a few steps inside the forest, but the dog was nowhere to be seen. Assuming he’d been feeling better, you took a deep breath and flew back to the castle.
You walked towards your room and changed into your uniform quickly. Sliding on Remus’ thick sweater to keep you warm, since you were almost shivering from flying so fast, and Fang had kept your sweater.
Once you were downstairs you found almost everyone already having breakfast. Sirius was sitting next to James, hair messy and looking as worn out as his friend. They really must have had a wild night, you thought. Peter was there too, he didn’t look as tired as the boys, but he did look mortified, and a little exhausted, like he’d been running all night, it made you wonder what kind of prank they had been planning to all look so depleted.
You finished eating as fast as you could, since you knew you had Apparition in like 15 minutes and Professor Dumbledore did not like it when people were late. Especially since it was the only class he taught. It was barely your second class, so it was all theory, inside the castle. Everyone in your friend group had taken the class, knowing full well how useful it could be, so you all walked together to the classroom that you unfortunately shared with Slytherins.
As you walked in, and class started you leaned towards Peter, “Where’s Remus?” You asked him.
“He’s not feeling good, he was hurt last night,” he whispered back, “he decided to skip the class, he’s at the infirmary.”
You looked at Peter surprised, he said it with such ease, like it was something that happened all the time, which was actually true, even if last night had been harder on the boys. But you, having met Remus for only a couple of weeks, did not expect him to just get randomly hurt and skip classes, especially since you’d seen how much he cared about them. Even you had skipped a class or two, and he’d been the one to pass you the notes. So you decided you’d return the favour, copying the majority of what Dumbledore was explaining in class, as neatly and orderly as you could.
After Apparition, you had four hours of care for magical creatures. You spent the first half of the class learning all about the nifflers before being taken into a room full of them. Professor Kettleburn had asked the MCZ (Magical Creatures Zoo) to borrow them for a month, and the students would be in charge of their care; naturally, everyone was fascinated with them. As you played with one of them, you started drawing him, letting another one play with your left hand. The scoundrel was carefully working his way to remove your ring when you noticed.
“Hey little guy!” You reprimanded “Not that, here…” You took out a golden coin from your purse, “take this one instead.” The little niffler seemed pretty satisfied. Once you were done you went to the kitchens for the second time in the day and asked Nimbletwist if she could get you some chocolate. She nodded, and a few minutes later showed up with 10 bars. You laughed at the excess but thanked her before placing them in the pockets of your robe. They might be useful later on, anyway.
As you ran through the halls you spotted Alexander Wood, and stopped, you had been hoping to find him. “Hey Alex!” You told him with a smile. “Mind helping me duplicate my notes real quick?” You asked him kindly.
He nodded “I can teach you the spell if you want to, I’ve got the book right now in fact…”
You smiled “I’d love that… but- I’m sort of on my way to see my friend, he didn’t go to classes because he was feeling bad and… I wanted to help him with my notes since he always lends me his.”
Alex nodded and walked with you “Then I won’t take much more of your time,” he said as you handed over your papers and he duplicated them with ease “By the way, will you come to Hogsmeade tonight? I heard Marlene and Holden are coming.”
“I… probably,” you told him with a smile “I’ll see you then, maybe?”
He nodded in response, and you waved goodbye to him “Thank you for the papers!”
“My pleasure,” he said before continuing his path.
That’s when you walked towards the infirmary, knocking on the door quietly in case anyone was sleeping. Madam Pomfrey was there “Is there something wrong darling?” She asked you with concern.
You shook your head “Can I uh… I’m actually here to see a friend.”
“Remus?” You nodded, and she let you in. “Poor boy, I gave him a drought for pain, he won’t stay awake for much longer, so you better hurry.”
“Thank you,” you said with a smile and walked towards the area she had pointed out. When you opened the curtain you were shocked. Remus was shirtless, his entire chest bandaged as if he had a massive gash underneath it, “Rem?” You asked worried “What the hell happened last night? The boys already look like shit, but you look like you’ve been run over by a truck.”
“(Y/N)? Is… is that you?” He asked, distraught.
You nodded and sat down beside him “Of course silly! I Brought you some chocolate.” You said pulling out a bar, and opening it up for him “Have you eaten anything? Do you want me to get you something to eat?”
He shook his head, he was more sleep than awake, but he grabbed the chocolate bar and munched on it “Why are you here?” He asked.
You were taken aback by that, “because I’m your friend? Peter said you were feeling bad, I’m actually surprised the boys aren’t here too.”
“Last night was… they must be feeling pretty bad too.”
“They looked rough,” you agreed, and leaned in closer to him, trying to identify how bad his wound was. He looked paler than normal, like he had lost a lot of bIood. “Rem… are you sure you’re ok?”
“I heal fast,” he said as he gave another bite of his chocolate “and Madam Pomfrey knows how to take care of me too.”
You leaned in on the bed, letting your arms fall next to his and resting your head on top of them. He flinched when your silver ring brushed over his skin, but you had quickly accommodated it closer to your face than his arm. Remus was already close to falling asleep “I brought you my notes, so you don’t miss any of what we did today,” you said “Apparition was just theory but, we also got to meet some nifflers.”
“Did you?”
“Yeah, baby nifflers,” you said with a smile “They’re adorable.”
“Bet.”
“You know…” you said, tracing circles around your own arm with your fingers, “I had a rough night last night too.” Remus hummed in response, “Not like you, not at all… but… I had the worst nightmare I’ve had in my life, it was so vivid I didn’t want to go back to bed.”
“‘m sorry,” he mumbled. You made a gesture to move away from the bed and back into your chair but he placed a hand over your arm “Don’t… you smell nice.”
You chuckled at that “I must smell of sweat and wet dog,” you said “I found Hagrid’s dog outside, and helped him, he looked like he too had had a pretty bad night. He had a gash on his shoulder and I was running around between the kitchens and the dog, freezing since I gave it my sweater,” Remus looked at you with worry, what if Moony had hurt Fang? “He’s very pretty, isn't he?”
“Fang?” He asked with a frown, incredulity dripping from his tone. He certainly wouldn’t use pretty to describe the dog.
“Yeah, so big and those bright blue eyes,” you said “I’ve never seen a prettier dog in my life.”
Sirius. You hadn’t helped Fang, you’d helped Sirius. Remus wondered what on earth had made you assume Sirius was Fang. He wondered too if Sirius had heard you call him Fang when you helped him, he would definitely tease him about it when he was feeling better.
“You smell nice anyway,” he said. You smelled like Sirius, and you smelled like you at the same time. Remus might not know why he felt that way, but he knew one thing for certain: he didn’t want you to pull away, he could smell that mixture of scents for the rest of his life and he’d be at peace. Maybe it was a wolf thing, he didn’t care, he was also so drunk on painkillers that he wasn’t at all thinking properly.
At some point he placed his fingers over your head and started playing with your hair, you delighted in the feeling of his fingers running over your scalp. You were glad you’d found such an amazing friend in him, so caring and compassionate. He was hurt so bad, and yet, he’d decided to comfort you as much as you comforted him. With Remus’ fingers running through your scalp, you dozed off again. When you woke up, it was already dark outside, and your stomach was rumbling, you hadn’t properly eaten at all that day. Madam Pomfrey was looking at you from the curtains with a smile.
“You make him feel at ease,” She told you, “He rarely stays long with me nowadays,” she said with a bit of longing in her voice. You frowned, was it common for him to go to the infirmary? “All right love,” Madam Pomfrey said with a soft smile “I’ll take care of him, off you go.”
You looked at her and nodded, finally standing up and walking towards the exit “Actually…” you said turning towards her “Is– Is there anything I can take to prevent nightmares?”
She bit her lip and nodded “It depends on the type of nightmares you’ve got, but I can give you an anxiety-reducing potion… do you think that could help?”
You shrugged, you didn’t think the nightmares were anxiety-induced but you nodded “I’d like that.”
“If it doesn’t get better, just come back to me love, I’m sure we can figure something out together.”
You nodded at her with a smile, thanking her as she handed you the small vial. It was the same droplet vial that Remus and you used on your fireworms. Shit, the fireworms! Remus had asked you to feed the fireworms, you thought as you ran out towards the passages, speeding through the dark as fast as you could. If you were too late, they could literally explode, you had to be there on time. When you reached the little nook where you’d left them you finally relaxed. They were both fine, so you took out some food from your pockets and left it on their makeshift feeding plate.
Thankfully Remus had asked you to feed them since yesterday. You might have forgotten about it all together with the hectic day you had.
Hold up, Remus had asked you to feed them yesterday. Almost as if he’d known he’d be feeling bad the next morning, but how was that possible? Was he expecting something to go wrong while he was planning the prank? Then why would he go ahead with it anyway? Or maybe he was just thinking ahead, taking into consideration how complicated the prank was, and decided to make sure the fireworms would be all right. Yeah, that made a lot more sense.
Remus was clever, he knew the prank was dangerous and decided to have a contingency plan. That was the most plausible explanation. And as the Occam’s Razor principle would say, the explanation that requires the least assumptions is usually correct. Remus was not some kind of divination master, he was just really good at thinking ahead. There was a reason he was a Prefect after all. The teachers probably knew how forehanded he was, and that’s how he’d gotten the little badge.
Once you’d settled your thoughts, you walked back to the common room. Passing by the kitchens for the third time that day to get yourself a decent snack. Nimbletwist was more than thrilled to see you and asked you about your day as you asked her about hers. You told her all about the crazy day you’d had and she made sure to prepare you the biggest sandwich you’d seen in your entire life.
“Ye must nourish yourself properly if ye be wishin’ to carry on with yer castle adventures master (Y/N).”
“I wouldn’t call them adventures, maybe mishaps,” you said with a smile but Nibletwist shook her head.
"Me's been keepin' me eyes on ya," she squeaked, her voice full of concern. "Since the day ya arrived 'ere, ya was wearin' sadness on yer face, lookin' all tired and such. But now, oh me goodness, there's a gleam of mischief in yer peepers! Ya's all brimmin' with excitement, even if ya be wearin' the exhaustion on ya. No doubts 'bout it, ya's livin' through a grand adventure, ya is!" She said finally, handing you over your massive sandwich.
You smiled at her “Thank you, Nimbletwist,” you told her with a smile. And she waved goodbye to you before disappearing. You stood there, maybe she was right, you were genuinely happy about being in Hogwarts, it was fun, and you’d made so many amazing friends already. So you smiled to yourself as you walked towards the common room. Greeting the lady of the portrait as you went inside.
James was sitting on the single couch, “Hey (Y/N)!” He greeted “Didn’t you go to Hogsmeade?”
You gasped, suddenly remembering Alex had told you a lot of your friends were actually going earlier that day. You looked at the clock, It was already 7:00 pm, they were all probably on their way back. Since they had to be at the castle before 9.
“I… totally forgot about it,” You said plopping out in the double coach next to Sirius.
“She was with Remus,” Sirius said simply.
“Yeah I…” you agreed, but then snapped your head towards your friend “How do you know?”
You smelled like medicinal herbs, chocolate and werewolf. A little of himself too, ever so faintly at this point. But Sirius couldn’t give you that as an answer, so he made something up quickly “Peter said he told you Remus was feeling bad.”
You nodded “I guess yesterday’s prank didn’t go as planned.”
“Certainly not,” James replied, rolling his shoulders back, as if he was trying to ease some tension on them.
“Pitty,” you said, finally leaning towards the table to grab a slice of your sandwich. “I was excited to see what kind of prank you made. I’ve heard a lot about your pranks, and the rain on the first day was fun.”
“Thanks!” Said James proudly “It was actually my idea.”
“But I perfected the spell,” added Sirius.
“Moony helped you a lot…”
“Naturally, he’s brilliant!”
“Do you boys want some of my sandwich?” You offered “I wanted something to eat, but after telling Nimbletwist I had skipped almost all of my meals she gave me this monstrosity.”
Sirius shook his head, but James nodded, leaning in to grab the half you’d left on the cloth. “Why didn’t you go to the great hall instead?”
“It was dark outside, I thought it was already like 9 or something, I accidentally took a nap when I was with Rem, lost track of time,” you said before giving a bite of your sandwich.
“You went to visit him, and napped?” Sirius teased with a raised eyebrow.
You finished munching on it quickly. “Well, technically we both fell asleep, he was pretty dumbed out with painkiller draughts.”
“Do you mind?” Sirius asked, after letting his head fall over your lap and placing his boots over the armrest. You gave him a look, eyebrows raised.
“You always ask after you’ve done it.”
He shrugged “It’s just to be polite, I’m sure you don’t,” he said,  giving you that utterly charming grin of his. I really am weak to beauty, you thought as you stared at Sirius’ sprawled hair over your lap, lashes thick as he looked at you with his smug little expression.
You shook your head lightly and rolled your eyes. James, from his side, was too focused on the sandwich to notice the way Sirius and you were staring at each other. “Dude,” he said as he finished his first bite. “That elf loves you, this sandwich is killer!”
You nodded in agreement, “It’s really good, right? I think she’s really nice. Our house elf isn’t nearly as nice.”
“And you never met Kreacher,” Sirius said “He hates me with all his guts.”
James nodded, he’d visited Sirius in his house once, after the second year break, and Kreacher was definitely something. “He’s awful! Thankfully Sirius won’t have to live with him again.”
“Is he leaving?” You asked casually.
“No. I did.” Sirius responded. Your eyes widened, jaw dropping at the same time.
“You left home?”
“He moved in with me,” said James with a smug smile.
You smiled brightly “That’s amazing!” You said “I mean… I’m glad you’re finally free of your parents.”
Sirius chuckled lightly at your excitement. Only people that’d met his parents had a similar one, “I’m happy I got rid of them too, unfortunately now, I have to deal with this bloke,” he joked, pointing at James.
“Shut up Pads, you love me!” Replied James while he shot a small cushion towards Sirius’ legs since his face was still on your lap, and he didn’t want to throw your sandwich.
They both laughed, and you were delighted by the soft sounds. James, Sirius, Remus and Peter, really had the kind of friendship you could only dream of.
You took another bite of your sandwich and remembered you still had chocolate in your pockets, so you took it out and hovered it over Sirius’ face “Want some?” You asked.
He nodded and motioned to grab for it, but you pulled it up slightly, out of his grasp, just to tease him “Hey!” He complained.
“What?” You asked, playing dumb.
He narrowed his eyes at you and went to grab for it again. You pulled it just the same “What are you playing?”
“Me? Nothing, you’ve got slippery fingers.”
“Slippery fingers my ass,” he said. He went to grab for it again and you pulled it upwards one last time “Come on (Y/N)! I’m not a dog!” He said.
James straight up laughed at that, and you looked at him with a smile “See? Even your best friends think you’re like a Puppy!” You laughed for a bit, and then opened the chocolate, holding a small block to his mouth, he took a bite from it, looking rather displeased “Good boy!” You praised, causing James to burst into a fit of laughter, Sirius almost choked on the piece he was eating.
“Hold up!” You said in a completely serious tone, and looked at James preoccupied, who somehow managed to stop his laughs to pay attention “Aren’t dogs supposed to be… allergic to chocolate?”
James looked at you with surprise, breaking quickly into a smile and even more laughs, you were absolutely hilarious, it was as if  you had a hidden talent to tease Sirius. And you didn’t even actually know he was a dog, you just teased him about it because of the nickname you’d given him years ago. Sirius on the other hand, took the chance to pull the chocolate bar off your hands and started munching on it while looking at you with apprehension, half expecting you to take it from him again, but you didn’t.
“Want some?” You asked as you pulled out another bar and waved it in the air for James to see, he nodded, and you threw it at him.
“Ah, so James can have the chocolate without any teasing then?” Sirius asked, a little miffed.
You shrugged “James doesn’t lay on my lap without asking for permission like others.”
“Yeah well, James’s stuck up!”
You laughed “Look who’s talking!”
Sirius took that as a personal challenge, running his tongue through his cheeks before asking “Are you by any chance… ticklish?”
Your smile was gone in an instant, you looked at him with worry “No.” You said in a warning tone.
Sirius’ smile grew bigger “Sure? I just thought I’d show you how stuck up I am.”
“Not funny Sirius,” you said “James?!” You added looking at your friend pleadingly, you were aware once something was set on Sirius’ mind, there was no way of stopping him.
James just raised his hands up in surrender. The motherfucker wouldn’t intervene. “James,” you pleaded again, as Sirius’ grin grew.
“You’ve been teasing him all night,” James said with a shrug “I’m afraid I cannot intercede for you.”
You looked at him with despair before you felt Sirius tickling hands on the tender side of your stomach, a burst of laughter erupted from your lips. You were extremely ticklish. “Sirius,” you pleaded in between laughter “please!” His smile widened in response to your begging, his eyes cherishing the sight of your laughter. You looked lovely like that. Another peal of laughter escaped, your breath quickening as the tickling persisted. Sirius shifted sitting up from your lap to gain better access, he was standing even closer to you than before “Sirius!” You exclaimed once more, laughing still, you were sure tears were running down your cheeks already.
When he didn’t stop you tried grabbing onto his hand and tickling him, but you barely managed to graze him before he quickly grabbed onto your arm with one of his hands to hold you still. You tried to use your other arm, but it was useless, Sirius was stronger. You wouldn’t get out of it with strength. So as you continued laughing you started trying to find another way and quickly realised he had one leg bent on the sofa and the other he was using for support, so you extended your leg and used the back of your shin to bend his knee over, pushing him back at the same time. But Sirius was still grabbing onto you so he ended up pulling you along, the two of you ended up on the floor. James looked up from the book he’d grabbed and when he figured everyone was fine he went back to it. Not bothering to give a second glance, Sirius could have his fun.
You used your arm to pull yourself up, grazing over Sirius’ shoulder, causing him to wince, but you assumed that had been from the fall. You stared at him catching your breath for a second, Sirius looked so pretty with his hair sprawled out over the floor that it took all your will not to kiss him right there and then, but you managed and rolled to the side, pushing the centre table slightly as you did.
“Truce!” You exhaled. “Please Sirius I need to– I need to breathe.”
Sirius turned to you for a second, a smug smile on his face, how was it possible that you were even prettier than when he met you? Shaking his thoughts, he looked up again, noticing for the first time the starry night on the ceiling and seeing the shooting star close to his constellation. He wondered when those stars had appeared. He was also breathing heavily when he said “Take back what you said about me being stuck up!”
You laughed incredulously “You’re right Sirius, you’re not stuck up,” you said as you stood up “You’re just a little pretentious,” you smiled, before running off to your room.
Sirius had tried to stand up to catch you, but the roughness of last night had taken a toll on him, his arm still hurt when he finally laid back on the couch.
“When are you planning to admit to yourself that you like her?” James asked, still looking at the book.
Sirius sighed, closing his eyes “I know I do. But I doubt she likes me still.”
“That’s a lot of crap.”
Sirius shook his head with a smile, deciding to change the subject “How’re you feeling? I’m pretty sure Moons was hard to push around when I was knocked out.”
“A little sore,” James replied, allowing Sirius to change the subject, for today. “I had to gore him, there was a lot of bIood and he woke up with a huge gush. Peter and I had to drag him back before Madam Pomfrey arrived. You?”
“Just a small cut, he clawed at me accidentally. Any idea why he was so aggressive?”
James shook his head “We asked him, he had no clue, just a vague idea of having the urge to run to the greenhouses.”
“The greenhouses? Is that where he was trying to go?” James nodded, even if Sirius wasn’t looking. “It was rough, hopefully next full moon won’t be as harsh.”
“Yeah, we wouldn’t want (Y/N) to find Fang hurt again.”
“Ughhh…” Sirius complained, “You know about that?”
“At first I thought you’d snogged her,” James replied “She stank off you.”
“I don’t stink!”
“Off-topic. We have a more important question: Why the hell did she assume you were Fang?”
Sirius shrugged, “She just called me that when she found me.”
“We must be more careful, she may end up connecting the dots, especially since she gave us the animagus recipe.”
Sirius incorporated quickly, snapping his head to James “You said you’d found them in the restricted section!”
“Oh right…. In September that year I received a letter, it wasn’t signed but I connected the dots when she was back here and mentioned you’d never replied to any of her letters. Anyway, it was from her, she sent the parchment.”
“So you’re saying I could’ve contacted her through you, all these years?”
James seemed to think about it “I suppose it would’ve been possible… but to be honest, I just assumed it had been Regulus.”
“Reg?” Sirius asked with a frown.
James nodded “You didn’t talk to him at all that summer, he wrote me several times, asking me to put him in contact with you, to give you notes or something, you always rejected anything that came from him, so I assumed he just didn’t want it to be evident he’d be the one to get it, so you’d actually take it.”
Sirius sighed loudly, Reg and him had taken very different paths, and Reg had stopped trying to contact him “What a miserable family.”
James gave his friend a pitying look, thankfully Sirius would not have to go back to them. He was free now. Free to do whatever he wanted for the rest of his life, “You’re with us now, we’re your family.”
Sirius smiled, James was right, you, The Marauders, Lily, and the rest of his friends, they were his family.

high-achiever - e.u.
Request by: @stilessbaseballbat
Hello! Can I request an imagine with Eggsy where him and the reader are appointed to train the newbies, but they become too competitive and split the group in two - One is Eggsys group and the two the readers. They make a bed which group will pass the Kingsman training? (you can choose who wins and what the loser is going to have to do)
Eggsy Unwin x Fem!Reader
Tumblr media
A/N: It hasn't been long since I got that request. Sure. I totally didn't have it in my wips since forever. Anyway, I feel a little boring because of the choice I made on who wins but eh it's okay. It was like 4am. I'm proud of the OCs though 'cause I think they're pretty lovable. (aka I love them and they're my pretty little babies so you also have to love them, no pressure.)
Any feedback, is good feedback!! Correct me on anything you think is wrong.
word count: 2.1k
Tags/Warnings: She/Her pronouns!!, Jealous Reader if you squint really hard, kinda ooc eggsy?, OC x OC, reader is an overachiever, bad writing? English is not my first language, I learned it entirely out of social media, mention of a dog being shot (but not really), mention of reader having a dog (again, only if you squint.), Use of Y/N
Tumblr media
"Gawain! Get up!" Eggsy's voice echoes loudly through the woman's house as he swings all the curtains wide open. She winces at the sudden light and curses the boy through her teeth.
"Y'know Galahad, I have heard rumours about people saying good morning as a greeting. Also that is a total violation of privacy. Do you know that? It's important to me that you know that." The girl whines shoving her tired body towards the kitchen, pouring coffee in a mug.
"Good morning, Gawain." Eggsy pauses. "Alright, now, the trainees list just came in and Merlin told me we are to train them. So take a look at it." He pushes the papers towards her and she takes a sip from her coffee, not making an attempt to take the papers. She looks up at Eggsy like he had killed her whole family.
"Why are you all that excited?" She asks rhetorically, not waiting for an answer. "Well, first of all I've been there and it's interesting to see newbies in my position and second of all it's going to be something to add to my successes. I'm high already but I am aiming higher."
He answers in a matter-of-factly tone and sits opposite to the girl. "What makes you think you are going to be all that good at it. I mean I am going to be there sure but-" She was rudely cut off.
"Are you implying you are better than me, Gawain?" The agent says slowly with a smile forming on his face.
"I wasn't implying anything, actually. I thought that was obvious. But before you rudely cut me off and-" She grunts in annoyance. Yet again being interrupted. She didn't like being interrupted.
"Then we can put it to the test. Drink your coffee and get dressed we are going to HQ." He states and starts wandering around the house, almost too comfortable, opening her closet and pulling out her suit, throwing it on her bed.
"You're doing it, again! I don't really appreciate that! And how did you even get inside my house? I never gave you a key. The door was locked, the lock isn't broken. What the bloody hell! You can't just sneak in like that." The woman complains kicking Eggsy out of her room as she starts to change her clothes. "We are Kingsmen, Gawain. Nothing is ever locked." She heard him say behind the door.
***
The newbies were in their cabin and they looked terrified in this sort of fun way. Y/N couldn't help but wonder if she also looked that terrified her first day at HQ. No. She thought. She was too confident. Her friends and family were sure, that was going to be the death of her. She was always sure of herself. Always. She had always been competitive.
Her parents still teased about stuff she'd do when she was little, like crying when she'd land on someone else's property while playing Monopoly.
They didn't even pressure her into all of those academic successes, she just did it.
The competitive part of her - if not her only part - is also what brought her where she is, doing something that Merlin, probably, wouldn't really like. But just like there wasn't one bone in her body that wasn't competitive, there also wasn't one that wasn't a winner.
***
"Do we get to choose who's in our team?" She found herself whispering at Eggsy while the newbies conversed with one another. "If you have your eye on someone that you think would make it easier, then no." He answers nonchalantly.
"Damn it." She swears under her breath, disappointed. "But we could choose eachothers teams. Like I choose yours, you choose mine." He murmurs.
"Okay. Then I'm giving you Marie." She says checking the document in her hand to make sure she got the name right. "Why Marie?" Eggsy asks, genuinely curious. "I don't know she seems annoying, she'd talk your ear of and get you distracted."
"Oh. Well that's good, because I actually think she's quite-"
"Then no." She changes her mind and shakes her head, her eyes still at the trainees looking over the cabin like lost puppies.
The blonde smirks, he marks his coworker's initials next to 'Marie Brown' on his own document. "Marie?" He says looking at the group of people right in front of him, searching with his eyes for the short redhead. "Yes." She speaks up. "You're with Gawain." He states.
The girl sprinted towards the, not-so-thrilled, agent excitedly. She smiled with all her teeth and squealed, standing tall, next to her.
She threw a sarcastic, tight lipped smile smile her way, then turned to look at Eggsy, the grimace never leaving her face. He just tried to hide his giggles under his breath and smiled, looking only forward because he knew if he turned to look at the woman's expression, he'd break down in laughter.
Marie grasped her mentor's shoulder proudly and Y/N's eyes widened but Eggsy's ability to hold his laugh was only getting worse. She nudged his rib with her elbow and coughed. "Okay, Elliot, with Galahad." She marked the initials G.U. on her document and let a breathy laugh out.
His eyes widened and his eyebrows went up, he turned to look at her and Elliot walked over to him. "Hello, sir." He sniffed and put his hand out for Eggsy to shake. His voice was shaky. Eggsy looked at him, then back at his sweaty hand and shook it.
Elliot let go from Eggsy's hand and wipped his hands on his uniform, fixing it and clearing his throat, as he walks next to Eggsy.
"He does realize that we are almost the same age and I am not his teacher, right?" The agent turns to Y/N and she snorts shortly. "Dont be mean," she says quietly "that's my job." She continues.
"Well, this is going to be fun." Eggsy mumbles under his breath. Suddenly regretting ever planting the idea of a bet in the girl's head.
***
"Okay, so." She clapped once to get the attention of the newbies. "The next days are going to be full of missions and tests, but you have to keep two things in mind. Always listen to your mentor and of course always look at the bigger picture. You're going to be in danger, multiple times through out this training process. If you look too closely you don't think practical, you think hypothetical. And a Kingsman doesn't have time for hypothetical."
Eggsy found himself staring at the young agent while she spoke with such loyalty and dedication. There was always this on going banter between them, about who is better at this or that, little things. But it had been amusing for him how she took everything so seriously, like she just had to win. Even if that was just an unserious game of rock-paper-scissors. He couldn't help but wonder why she was so competitive, with everyone but especially him, at most times.
That being the only trait they had in common.
How competitive they both were.
In general they we really different, she was serious most of the time and she always went by the rules, more logical than emotional, she'd always follow a good piece of advice. Eggsy was a free-er soul, he is emotional, he gets attached really easily. A smart-ass if she's ever met one. And he had this weird hero complex she could never understand, this 'I'm saving the world.' kind of attitude. She wanted to wipe that smirk of his face, bring him down to earth, shout 'We're all saving the world here!' at him.
***
"Hello there." Agent Gawain told the newbies, wet like cats, seeming miserable.
"What the hell was that?!" Hayley whined, a trainee from Eggsy's team. "That was your first quest, and if it was hot in here you'd be thanking us now." He answered the blonde girl's question.
"What was surprising, something that has never happened before, was that all of you failed. We had to drain the water so you don't drown." Y/N told her trainees. They all looked at eachother awkwardly, ashamed, as the experienced agent put her hands over her chest disappointed.
"Are you kidding me? We almost died for your stupid training and we get scolded like we're little children? I am not dealing with this crap." She got her luggage from under her bed and pushed through Galahad and Gawain so she can leave. Eggsy grimaced, his nose scrunching and his eyes squeezing shut. "She left." He heard a familiar whisper from next to him. "I know." He said. "Okay. Hopefully by the next mission we won't have anyone storming off." He turned to the rest of the group.
***
It had now came down to the final choice. The two final trainees for the decision to be made were, ironically enough, Elliot and Marie.
The trainees were both at different rooms, one across from another. Agents Gawain and Galahad were both leaning on different walls, one across from another.
Both waiting nervously to hear the gunshot from their trainee's gun. The woman made a clicking noise with her tounge as the man constantly tapped his foot against the metal floor. "Nervous, Galahad?" The agent asks the blonde. "Never, Gawain." He answers.
Gunshots are heard from both rooms and the agents let out a breath they didn't know they had been holding, realisation came to them immediately and they locked in eachother's eyes. "Does this mean...?" Eggsy started. "I think so? It hasn't happened to me before." Y/N says confused and both Elliot and Marie come out of the rooms.
"I almost shot my Barney..." Marie says to her mentor with wide eyes, holding her dog close to her chest. "Yup I know, he's alright, Mar." Agent Gawain hugs her trainee, remembering how it felt to even think of shooting Stevie when she went through her own training.
"I- Me too." Elliot says, still shocked. She sees Eggsy over Marie's shoulder, as he sighs, grimacing yet again, questioning and giving two hesitant pats on Elliot's back she couldn't describe as confrontational. She laughs on Marie's shoulder and Eggsy rolls his eyes at her.
"Okay. I mean. Good news is...you're both Kingsmen now. And you have your dogs!"
Y/N says letting Marie go.
"Congratulations on your dedication."
Marie and Elliot start talking and Eggsy discreetly takes his coworker away.
"So it's tie?" He whispers.
"I guess so." She shrugs.
She looks back at Marie and Elliot. Elliot awkwardly laughs as he makes a depressing attempt to touch Marie's arm and she giggles putting some of her hair behind her ear.
"Well that's akward." She says and Eggsy follows her eyes and also looks at the, now, young Kingsmen.
"Let the kids be. They're living their love."
"You're making me have a mid-life crisis before my time, we're like two years older than them."
Eggsy sighs theatrically. "Yes, but they feel like my kids already. Look at them opening their wings."
Gawain rolls her eyes.
"Must be sad for you. Now you can't make a move on Marie." She says sarcastically.
"I just said that so you wouldn't put her on my team. Marie's not really my type."
"What's your type then?"
"I don't know. Witty, smart, boring agents that can't bare losing?"
"Sounds very specific for the sake of 'not knowing'."
"Familiar too doesn't it?" A proud smile plays around Eggsy's lips as he is staring at her.
"Yeah, it does. Thank god my type is annoying, funny, immature agents that I just can't get off my back." She grins.
"I'm pretty hard to get rid of. Would you break a rule, Gawain?"
"Only if I am to break it with such good company, Galahad."

All This Time- Chapter 5
cw: trans male pregnancy (past, mentioned), angst, miscommunication, fluff and happy ending
The supermarket was as uneventful as a shopping trip with a four year old gets. Elizabeth was determined to show her Dad all her favourite things, like the cat food that has the ‘pretty kitty’ on the box and the dog toys that cause arguments between her and Johnny since he won’t get them a pet.
She asks politely for a chocolate bar, which she receives, and she shares it with Simon after he tells her that Snickers are his favourite too.
Like clockwork, when they near the checkouts, Johnny grabs four different flowers without a word. He picks a tulip, a rose, a chrysanthemum and a gerbera daisy.
Simon tried to ask what they’re for but got distracted by Elizabeth pulling on his hand when the crowd around them grew. It was busy in the store, lots of people getting last minute back to school supplies as well as their weekly shops.
Before long, they wandered across from Tesco towards a church. Simon knows it well, it’s the reason he and Johnny had the flat so close to it, he buried his family there many years ago. Simon is surprised to see Johnny pick Elizabeth up, swinging her onto his hip as she holds the four different flowers gently, as he then waltzes into the graveyard.
Simon is a few steps behind but quickly catches up as they wander through the cemetery. It’s more crowded since he was last there, newer gravestones deep in the ground with gold etching on the marble.
Just as Simon goes to speak, Elizabeth is placed on the floor and she rushes off, quiet mumbles of ‘Nanny!’ escaping her mouth. Simon stands to Johnny’s side, “Johnny, why are we here?”
“To see her Nan,” Johnny says, matter-of-factly. He turns to Simon and his face pales dramatically fast. His hand comes to his mouth as he gasps, “Shit! Fuckin’ shite! Simon, I’m sorry, I didn’t think and I- I- Christ Almighty, I’m such a fuckin’ moron! I- we can go back, I’m sorry!”
Simon shakes his head, “No, Johnny, it’s okay. Probably about time I paid my respects.”
“Simon, I mean it, if you want to leave, we can go. It’s your call.” Johnny says firmly.
Simon looks up in time to see Elizabeth plop herself down in front of a grave with a smile on her face. He knows the plot well. Two companion plots, at a hefty sum too, but the lifting weight from his pocket did nothing to ease the weight on his mind. Far on the other end of the yard, an abandoned plot at this point, probably still stands. Withered with age and damaged from the weather. He hopes it rots eternally.
“Johnny, it’s fine.”
And with that, they catch up to their daughter.
For a four year old, her knowledge of graveyard respect is exceptional. She sits by the graves, but the heavy load sitting on Simon’s shoulders as he approaches dissipates when he sees Elizabeth there. She is plucking at the weeds in the ground, muttering ‘yuck!’ to Johnny as he sits beside her. She grabs dying flowers from out of the pots and places one of the flowers in each one.
Elizabeth Riley gets the Rose, Beth Riley the Tulip. Tommy gets the Daisy and Joseph. Joseph, whose age doesn’t even reach ten, he gets the Chrysanthemum.
The graves are perfectly maintained. No damage, no disturbed soil, no birds leaving their mess on the stones. They’re meticulously cleaned and Simon sees immediately that this has been Johnny and Elizabeth’s ‘project’ over the years.
“JoJo, I brought the- Papa I forgot how to say it! Ah, bronty- bron-to-saurus,” She spells out with a grin, “This week.”
She places the little toy dinosaur in front of the grave marker and lets it walk over the ground before saying, “Your turn!”
Joseph lays in the plot between his mother, and his grandmother. Tommy is on the end but there’s one grave missing. There’s a chunk of marble still forced into the ground and Johnny sees where Simon is looking.
He clears his throat, “A documentary came out a few years ago. About what happened. Kids came here and vandalised your stone. I- I was about eight months pregnant when it happened but I came and removed the stone. Broke it into pieces and took it out from here in the middle of the night. Police came knocking the day after, thought they might’ve caught me somehow, but they came to inform me of the incident. They had caught the vandals and assumed it was them. Think they took pity on me.” Johnny turns to Elizabeth and combs a hand through her wild hair.
Simon nods weakly and huffs, “Why'd you do that?”
“Regardless of what you think of yourself, Simon, I wasn’t going to let a group of kids ruin your name. I couldn’t stand it. You saved my life multiple times, you gave me my daughter, you’ve done everything and more for me and all I wanted to do was pay you back. Do something for you, for a change.” Johnny mumbles. He reaches over to Elizabeth Riley’s grave and plucks a dandelion out the ground.
“Talk to your Nana, sweetheart.” Johnny tells Lizzie, letting her clamber in front of the stone. She natters away about how she’s starting school and how the little girl next door is going to be in the same class.
She then mumbles, “Mah Daddy came home, Nana! He’s funny and big!” She giggles and Johnny turns to Simon to see him walking towards his Father’s grave.
“Ah shite,” Johnny sighs. He gives Simon his space for a minute, watching him out the corner of his eye as he stops at the grave in the far distance. He lets Elizabeth say everything she wants to, plays with ‘Joseph’ again and tells Beth how her hair is growing long and pretty like hers, before he bundles her into his arms and goes after Simon.
Just before they get there, Johnny places Elizabeth down and tells her he’ll just be a moment. He asks her to stay close by and she nods, going sitting at some other graves and taking weeds out the ground there instead.
Johnny walks over to Simon and places a hand on the small of his back, feeling Simon flinch. He looks at the grave before him. The sides are chipped and damaged, the words are weathering away and there is moss growing on the surface of the rock. The name ‘Damien Riley’ is slightly visible on the grave and Johnny notes how Simon’s hand is in a fist.
“I never brought her to this one,” Johnny mumbles, “I knew what he did to you all, couldn’t even think about paying respect to him, never mind force Elizabeth to.”
“You- How long have you been coming?” Simon asks.
“Since you left. It sounds silly, because I knew, deep down, you were alive. I was scared you may have been KIA or something though and I- I wanted to feel close to you. I would sit at your grave a-and talk to you. I would bring pictures from my scans and I played you a recording of her heartbeat once. I thought that if you knew you would’ve been here.” Johnny mumbles, “Since then, I’ve been caring for all the graves. Brought Elizabeth for the first time once she had all her jabs. I’ve talked to the graves a lot, these past five years almost, Simon, but I’ve never been to this one.”
“And Elizabeth,” Simon mumbles, “You’ve told her all about them? She calls my Mum, Nana.”
Johnny nods, “Well she is, isn’t she? I told her that they were in an accident.”
“Johnny I-” There’s a crack in Simon’s voice and when Johnny looks up, he sees tears on his face, “I don’t know how you could say you want to pay me back when that’s all you’ve been doing always.”
“It doesn’t feel like enough.” Johnny says.
“Well it is! You have cared for my family, thought about them even in death. You protected my honour. You did it all whilst having and raising our daughter when I wasn’t even here. I walked out on you when you needed me the most, and I'll never forgive myself for forcing you to do this all on your own.” Simon sighs. He glares deeply at the grave before him before turning his back to it and looking into Johnny’s eyes instead.
“And I’d do it all again in a heartbeat,” Johnny confirms, “Whether you believe it or not, I was indebted to you Simon. I always repay my debts.”
Simon wraps his arms around Johnny and buries his face into his neck. He breathes shakily as Johnny holds him close and mumbles, “Thankyou.” under his breath.
Elizabeth comes over, tugging on both of their jeans in an attempt to get their attention. Simon breaks the hug and lifts her up, sitting her on his hip, before leaning back into Johnny’s embrace.
A hand rubs his back, distinctly Johnny’s, but he feels a smaller hand gently patting between his shoulders when a voice speaks up, “Sad Daddy be happy now.”
Simon chuckles a little and rests his head against Elizabeth’s, “I am happy, darling, I promise.”
Johnny leans over and plants a kiss on Lizzie’s cheek, mumbling to her about how proud he is that she’s been good and that she’s such a sweet girl and Simon feels the large weight on his chest lift, like a dam opening up, and love comes flowing through the gaps and encompasses his heart entirely.

ttwt episode 9
“Last time, on Total Takes World Tour: we laughed, we ate, we danced, and some of us even lost in beautiful Quebec. Bonnie accepted their fate as the team’s emotional support dog, while both Max and Kelly grew more suspicious of a certain environmentalist. Julia went ham on Team Yaoi in hopes of getting Patrick eliminated, but fell short when the challenge turned out to be a reward one, saving him another seat aboard the S.S. Drama. Who will be electrocuted this time? Will Phillip ever be able to absorb the moon’s power? Stay tuned to find out right here, on Total Takes: World Tour!”
The galley is full but slow this morning, everyone trudging along to help themselves to another inedible meal before the plane’s descent. The metal hull itself creaks and groans, sending a chill up everyone's spine.
“I wonder what torture we have in store for us today,” Max comments sarcastically, pushing around the soggy toast on his tray.
“Nothing I couldn’t handle, heh,” Phillip responds. “I’ve been working on my... abilities. Be warned...”
Staci’s head pokes out from around the corner. “Phillip, you left your drawings in the confessional again!” she holds up a few crude drawings of werewolves staring forlornly off into the distance.
The entire cabin bursts into strained laughter and Phillip sulks. Max ignores him. Bonnie grumbles and faceplants into the table.
---
First class is tense, but this time, it’s not the usual suspects.
Ass and Courtney are rather… civil this morning, going about their daily tasks without a peep from either of them. Julia, on the other hand, is pacing the entire length of the cabin, grumbling and cursing to herself, only stopping to throw darts at a picture of Patrick’s face taped to one of the seats.
Mal is smacking gum loudly, typing on her phone and ignoring the darts whizzing past her head.
“Stupid, stupid…” Julia grumbles, tossing another projectile. It hits Mal in the thigh. She has no reaction as she scrolls.
“We need to think ahead,” the blonde insists, slamming her fist to her hand. “Where’s our next challenge going to be?”
“An island. Tropical,” Mal says, not bothering to look up from her phone. “In about… sixteen minutes.”
Julia blinks, then looks out the window over the great expanse of ocean. She turns back with a perplexed expression while Ass raises an eyebrow from across the cabin. “What? How would you even know that?”
Courtney’s eyes widen. “Don’t-!”
“May I present to you-” Mal says, standing and rushing across the cabin. She pulls down a screen map of the world with numerous pins in it. “Mal’s 100% full-proof Total Drama Predictinator!”
Ass and Julia stare. Courtney smacks their forehead.
“Every season, I create a highly complex AI program that predicts each location, challenge, and eliminations with startling accuracy,” Mal says, pacing between the ends of the map. She speaks matter-of-factly. “According to my findings, we’ll be on an island in the Atlantic ocean.”
The intercom crackles to life. “Wouldn’t be so sure about that, Einstein!” Chris says merrily. “We’ll be landing in Waterloo, Belgium, in-”
The plane suddenly lurches, sending all unbuckled passengers flying. A sputtering, mechanical screech forces everyone to cover their ears and look around at the metal beast nervously.
“Uh, Chris, you might wanna take a look at this,” Chef says. The intercom then dies and the lights in the plane flicker out seconds before it begins plummeting.
“Brace yourselves!” Courtney yells. “Assume your positions!”
“Um…” Julia shouts, looking between Ass and Mal as they stare nervously. “We didn’t actually read your guide!”
“WHAT! I spent all night writing- AHHHH!”
The plane plunges, growing closer and closer to the ocean.
---
Economy has all but buckled in, ducking and covering their heads as luggage and rats fly around the cabin. A loud siren begins to blare, forcing everyone to plug their ears.
“I can’t die here!” Bonnie yells, pleading with the universe. “Anywhere but here!”
Phillip screams in terror, his high-pitched shrieks out matching the siren in volume. Staci grits their teeth and Kelly, Max, and Bonnie lean away. Patrick rocks back and forth in his seat.
Only Albert seems unbothered, still flipping through his book without a midst of panic about him.
---
ALBERT: “What? Everyone was too preoccupied crying for mommy to notice me. What does sudden and terrible death matter, anyway?”
---
At the very last second, the plane deploys a few massive parachutes, and lands softly on the beaches of an island.
Mal looks out the economy window. “See? Island!”
Julia’s jaw drops.
---
JULIA: “Okay, she may be crazy- like, class A crazy, nuttier than a nutbar dipped in peanut sauce nutty- but she isn’t stupid. I just have to find a way to use this to my advantage…”
---
The teens uneasily exit the plane, groaning and holding their heads. Most of them are a sickly shade of green, and even Chris looks tussled.
“That was a nasty trick you pulled,” Courtney says, pointing an accusing finger at Chris and wheezing. “You could’ve killed us!”
“Hey, man, this one wasn’t me,”
Chef walks out from behind the plane, holding a wrench that’s bent in all kinds of wrong ways. He shakes his head. “It’s not looking too good,” he says. “We’re gonna need someone qualified to handle this.”
Chris shudders.
“So, it’s fixable?” Max asks, crossing his arms. “You guys just don’t want to pay for it?”
“Hey! We’re on a budget!” The host snaps. “I’m sure we’ll figure something out- I’ll call the producers. In the meantime, uh… I guess we’ll do our challenge here. Wherever this is.”
The teams look around the island, taking note of the sandy beaches and lush vegetation.
“St. Helena,” Mal comments. “We’re off the coast of South Africa, east of Rio de Janeiro. Coordinates 15° 58′ 0″ S, 5° 42′ 0″ W.”
Everyone turns to her, blinking.
“Oh, great. She’s doxxing the island now!” Ass shouts. Julia shoves a finger to their face and approaches Mal cautiously, smiling widely.
“Mal,”
“Hm?” the brunette asks, back on her phone.
“Do you think your… um, geographical knowledge might actually help us?”
“Duh,” she scoffs. “But it’s not like anyone ever asked me!”
Julia grits her teeth and smiles wider. “Well, we didn’t know. Think you could help the team this time?”
Mal thinks for a moment, then shrugs.
---
MAL: “What? I’m not stupid. I know a lot of things besides fandom and phones- I know where all the challenges are going to be, I know that Bonnie still keeps a picture of Caesar with them, I know Frollo is in the cargo hold-” she sighs. “You know, fandom bloggers really are the most oppressed people in society. I-”
The camera goes static.
---
Chris stands before the three remaining teams as they organize themselves across from each other on a grassy field. The host himself is on the phone, grumbling to himself.
“Yes, well, the hot tub was necessary, so- hello? HELLO?” he sighs, tossing the phone behind him. It hits an intern in the head and they collapse. The teams look between each other awkwardly.
“Looks like we’re on our own. Luckily, due to a quick wiki search- we can stay on theme! Welcome to St. Helena- island in the middle of nowhere. Best known for being Napoleon’s final resting place after he was exiled here way-back-when. Since we were originally going to Waterloo, we can just do the same challenge here. You kids will be recreating the historic battle that sealed Bonaparte’s fate. Team Friendship-”
The aforementioned look up.
“You’ll be playing the part of the French army. AKA, the LOSERS!” he chuckles. “Team Yaoi, you’ll be the Prussians, and Team Mojo, you’re the British.”
The respective teams watch as Chef begins rolling out cannons. Courtney raises an eyebrow. “What exactly is our angle here?”
“Um… don’t get blown to smithereens by a cannon?” Chris chuckles. “I was kinda just hoping you guys would get your hands on weaponry and go crazy.”
“You’re letting us have real weapons?” Phillip asks, eyes widening. He grins maliciously.
---
PHILLIP: “I believe I’m destined to kill a man. Basically it’s like, my destiny and stuff, and this show seems like my best shot. Whoever I attack should thank me- dying in combat is the highest honor a man can achieve!”
---
“Historically accurate weapons... mostly!” Chris corrects. “Last team standing wins, yadda yadda… hey Chef, we still have that inflatable pool, right?”
Chef nods.
“Sweet! See you all in a few,”
Staci sighs as she watches the two walk off. Turning back to the team, she crosses their arms. “We need a plan,”
“You think?” Bonnie asks, staring at the ginormous canon.
“I do, in fact!” she beams. The goth rolls their eyes. “Now, I’ve read about this before… it’s been a while, but I think I remember enough to have us not obliterated instantly. First, we’ll need a stand-in Napoleon,”
Phillip’s hand shoots up. “Ooh, me! Pick me!” he then coughs and artificially lowers his voice. “I mean… or whatever.”
Staci paces back and forth. “It’s gotta be someone smart…”
Phillip trails behind them, casually whistling.
“Competent. Organized!”
He clears his throat and begins casually leafing through his journal, mumbling his poetry under his breath.
She looks between the group. “How about… Max?”
“WHAT?” Phillip and Max chime in unison.
Bonnie raises an eyebrow. “You know… I could see it,”
“It’s because of my height, isn’t it?” he lowers his eyes. They shrug.
Staci interjects. “No, no! You’re… I mean, you’re a natural leader! You’re smart! And romantic!”
Phillip seizes. “What? Napoleon wasn’t a romantic, he was like, a military guy!”
“But he was really into romance novels,” Staci says. “I used to be muts with someone who kinned him, but then there was a bunch of callouts for people who kinned real life people, so I had to softblock them and they sent a death threat to my workplace. But it’s all good now. Anyway…”
---
PHILLIP: “I am a lot of things, but I am NOT a romantic! I mean, I’m a chick magnet, sure, but I don’t let the ladies lead me astray. It wouldn’t be very sigma of me. I’m fine with being second in command, then,”
---
“All in favor of Max?”
“Wait!” he snaps.
Everyone raises their hands and Max sighs, defeated.
---
Julia watches the teams divulge and turns back to hers. “Alright. Game plan, anyone?”
“Don’t get blown up,” Ass comments dryly. They are ignored.
“Mal? Anything?” the blonde asks.
She shrugs. “Eh, whatever you guys think. I’m busy- #saveourshow is trending on Twitter, and-”
Julia nabs the phone out of her hands and holds it above her head. Mal pouts. “FINE! We should like… hm…” the brunette scans the field. “I guess we should attack Team Mojo first. We outnumber them, and they really only have the one decent player. Everyone’s been calling them “Team Losers- and Michela” on Tumblr, and it-”
“I am down for that!” Julia interrupts, tossing Mal back her phone like it’s a dog treat. “Team Mojo it is. Courtney, Ass, defend our ground. Mal and I have this covered.”
Courtney and Ass both raise a cautious eyebrow and turn to each other slightly.
---
COURTNEY: “Is it just me, or are those two getting awfully chummy lately?”
ASS: “Definitely not just you. Something’s up- I smell an alliance,”
---
Patrick plays with the cannon while Michela and Albert try to discuss their angle. He chuckles as he loads the barrel full of heavy projectiles and aims it at Team Friendship.
“Okay, if we just focus on defense, maybe we can scrape by,” Michela ponders, pacing back and forth. “But we only have the one cannon, and we’re surely going to be everyone’s first target…”
“Maybe we should offer them the princess as a sacrifice,” Albert mutters, gesturing back to Patrick as he lights the fuse. “I’m sure Team Yaoi would ignore us altogether if we let them chew on him for a while.”
“What’s that supposed to mean, cupcake?” Patrick snaps, glaring.
“You can’t be serious- Julia’s been trying to get you eliminated for days now,” Albert says, waving at Team Yaoi. “And it looks like your odds aren’t good today.”
He scoffs. “As if I’d let some girl-”
A sudden cannonball flies through the air, whacking Patrick in the back and sending him flying forward with a long shriek. Julia cheers from afar. Michela massages her temples.
---
Phillip scans the teams, looking between them for weaknesses.
---
PHILLIP: “Trying to choose a target is pretty hard. Team Yaoi is pretty scary… I mean, lame! I wouldn’t wanna waste my ammo on them,”
---
Staci and Bonnie shove the cannon around, aiming it at Team Yaoi. “Ready?” Max yells. “Fire!”
Kelly lights the fuse and the team ducks, covering their ears, waiting for… nothing. The flame disappears in the breeze, leaving their cannon unfired.
“Okay, let’s try this again,” Max sighs, lighting another match. “Ready? Fire!”
Again, the breeze blows it away. He grumbles to himself.
“Maybe we should aim in a different direction,” Staci says. “Team Mojo-”
“Out of the question,” Max snaps.
Bonnie sighs. “You and your moral high ground with that girl. Listen, if we aim for Albert…”
After a long, drawn out silence, he relents. “Fine. But be careful!”
Just as Patrick peels himself off the ground, another cannonball- this time from Team Friendship- hits him in the gut. Max shouts “Damn it!” from afar.
Albert smirks as he lights the cannon and fires in Team Yaoi’s general direction. “Duck!” Ass shouts, pulling Courtney to the grass as the ball flies overhead.
The two wait for it to pass, but just as Courtney begins to stand, Ass pulls them back down. “We should talk,”
“About?”
Ass nods in Julia and Mal’s direction as they load the cannon for another shot at Patrick.
“If they team, one of us is next. And if Mal makes it further in this game than me, I’ll kill myself,” Ass snaps. “As much as I hate to say it, if we wanna stay, we’re going to have to work together.”
Courtney thinks for a moment, and then grins. “Anything to take her down,”
The two shake hands with equally big smiles and then rise just as Julia fires another cannonball at Patrick, nailing him in the back of his knees. He shrieks again and she laughs.
A shot from Team Friendship flies past them, narrowly missing Mal’s head as she taps on her phone, ignoring the commotion around her. She doesn’t even flinch.
“Man, that chick is crazy,” Julia grumbles, loading the cannon for another round.
“Patrick, GET UP!” Michela shouts. “This isn't the time for napping!”
Patrick, face-down in the grass, groans to himself. It takes a few seconds for him to peel his body off the ground, spitting out a mouthful of dirt as his bruised and battered form limps back to the team.
“Call me crazy, but… I think Julia might be mad at me,” he says to Albert. The latter rolls his eyes.
“Well, you’d better patch things up, cause we’re getting wailed on over here,” Michela snaps as another shot from Team Friendship narrowly misses Albert. A faint dinging catches their attention and the team grumbles.
Patrick sighs. “I miss the way, Julie said hello- by punching me, in the stomach,”
“I miss the nights, when she didn’t pick up the phone,” he continues.
“Oh, oh,” Michela and Albert chime in as another cannonball flies overhead.
“Cause other times, she’d wreak havoc”
Patrick places a hand over his heart and gestures towards Team Yaoi. Julie watches him, mortified, while the rest of the team looks between each other awkwardly from behind her.
“Oh, Julie, oh Julie, I, I miss you so… Oh my Julie, my violent Julie, why’d I ever let you go?”
“I dumped YOU!”
“I miss her smile, and the tables that she threw- at me, when she was moody-”
“Your fault!”
“Oh, I miss the way, we’d never seem to agree,”
“Oh, oh,”
“Cause arguing, always brought out her beauty,” he continues, ducking another round of shots from Team Yaoi. “Oh, Julie, oh, Julie, I, I miss you so… Oh, my Julie, my scary Julie, why’d I ever let you go? Why’d I ever let you go?”
“I’m going to kill him,” Julia says. “Okay, number one goal- Team Mojo has GOT to go!”
Ass ducks a cannonball from Team Friendship. “No offense, but we’re kinda getting pummeled out here- Team Losers is the least of our concern!”
“Team Losers and Michela,” Mal says, matter-of-factly. Ass grits their teeth.
“They have a zero-sum chance of winning. This is the smartest move. I need him GONE!”
Courtney and Ass make nervous eye contact, but relent.
---
Phillip watches as Team Friendship misses another shot at Team Mojo.
“They move too fast,” Bonnie huffs, wiping the sweat off their forehead as they move the cannon back around to Team Yaoi. “We’re never gonna hit anyone at this rate.”
“Hey, it’s not so bad! We got Patrick a few times!” Kelly smiles, putting a hand on their shoulder.
“...Which makes no difference at all, since he has the relevance of a sack of potatoes,” Max snaps. “Let’s just focus on Team Yaoi- they’re not even looking at us now.”
Phillip nods, pulling out his notebook to scribble something down.
---
PHILLIP: “You know, I’m actually glad I didn’t get to be Napoleon. Now I can observe the teams and mark my target!"
---
“Faster! We need more ammo!” Julia shouts, commanding her troops in a fitting military fashion. “Hurry up!”
“We’re trying!” Ass snaps, then turns to Mal as she ignores the challenge altogether. “Maybe if SOMEONE was helping, we’d be going faster!”
“Mal has already helped enough. You two, on the other hand, could stand to pick up some slack!”
Ass and Courtney make eye contact, but turn back just in time to see a cannonball flying at them. “DUCK!”
The three drop to the ground and cover their heads as the projectile lands behind them with a thud. Mal remains none the wiser.
“Damn! Missed again!” Bonnie huffs. “This thing is killing me!”
Phillip chuckles maliciously. “Not yet…”
They glare at him and he sighs and walks away.
“Don’t be so hard on yourself,” Kelly puts a hand on their shoulder. “At the very least, none of our team has been hurt yet!”
---
PHILLIP: “Perhaps I’ve been looking in the wrong directions… maybe my true target has been here all along- the weak must perish!” he chuckles to himself and then screams at a spider in the booth.
---
“You’re not loading the cannon fast enough,” Max says. “Or moving it, or… anything. We need to be faster!”
“We’re going as fast as we can!” Staci insists.
The team bursts into shouting, bickering and pointing fingers at each other. As they’re distracted, Phillip puts his full weight into turning the cannon around and facing it in Kelly’s direction as they try to mediate.
“Here we go…” he grins, lighting the fuse.
“And if YOU hadn’t been yelling, maybe we could’ve focused and gone faster!” Staci shouts, jabbing a finger in Max’s face. He swats their hand away and the two begin slap-fighting.
Kelly gasps and rushes in to pull them apart, moving out of aim just in time- the cannon fires, sending a ball straight past Team Friendship, and right into Team Mojo’s barrel.
“That’s not good,” Michela says, seconds before ducking as their cannon explodes.
Team Friendship stops shouting and turns to the commotion, then to Phillip.
“Holy…” Bonnie mumbles. “That’ll do it.”
---
As Julia, Ass, and Courtney take their hands off their ears and rise from the ground, they stare in bewilderment at the shredded remains of Mojo’s cannon.
“So… now what?” Courtney asks.
Before Julia can respond, however, a rain of cannonballs from Team Friendship showers them. The teens drop to the ground and cover themselves, bracing for the worst, but the balls simply bounce off them.
Ass stares at one of the cannonballs, then lightly kicks it. It rolls away. “Huh. Imagine that,”
“They’re FOAM?” Phillip shouts in bewilderment from across the field.
Chris walks back onto the field, holding a coconut drink with a tiny ornamental umbrella in it. He takes a long sip. “You guys done yet?”
“They’ve been foam this WHOLE TIME?” Bonnie shouts.
“Uh, duh! Can you imagine the lawsuits?” the host scoffs. “The canons are real, though- and they pack a real punch!”
“But- what about Patrick?” Michela asks, pointing to her bruised and battered teammate.
Chris shrugs. “Soft skin? Anyway… looks like Team Friendship has the most players standing, meaning they win the challenge!”
“What? None of us even got hurt!” Ass snaps. They are ignored.
“And looks like Team Mojo took the hardest hit, soooo… see you guys tonight!” he chuckles, walking off.
Michela and Albert look down at Patrick while Julia cheers and does a little dance around Mal. "Gooooooodbye, Patrick!" she hollers.
---
JULIA: "Finally- with that twit gone, I can focus on the game! Maybe having Mal around isn't so bad after all..."
---
“Did everyone have fun today? Yes? No?” Chris asks, looking between the three. Michela rolls her eyes. Albert turns a page in his book. “Anyway- it’s anyone’s game today! Three players left, who will lose, who will lose? It’s-”
“Just kick him off already!” Michela snaps.
Chris huffs. “Geez, FINE! Patrick, you’ve been eliminated. See ya on the flip side, pal!”
Patrick whines and gets up, holding an ice pack to his head. He takes the parachute and jumps from the plane, landing face-first in the sand below.
“You know, I usually hate out ground landings, but that one’s okay by me,” Chris says, peering out the door. “Who will be battered next time? Will we ever get off this island? Find out here, on Total Takes: World Tour!”

Chapter 3: Now What's Next?
Past (2 Years Ago):
As soon as Kate stepped through the bathroom doors, she felt a momentary solace. She hoped that Anthony would not follow her into the bathroom and she thought for a moment she would be able to gather herself before going back out to watch some more performances. The last thing she needed was to be distracted during her sister's performance after intermission.
When the recital began Kate found it difficult to focus on the singers. All she could feel was Anthony's eyes on her, a penetrating intensity that stirred a deep sensation within her. She hadn't even glanced to see if he was watching but she could feel it. It was the same gaze he had been directing towards her ever since she left him standing there to fetch Mary from the entrance, after his confession.
Mary must have seen him staring because she waved him over. There was a stilted conversation until Daphne found Anthony and told them all they should probably take their seats.
Kate slightly shifted in her seat as she tried to adjust to a more comfortable position.
"Honey, you should just go to the bathroom with all of that squirming," Mary whispered to Kate "It's not like Edwina is going to be performing any time soon," "I don't need to pee, Mary," Kate whispered. "Really? I can't tell due to your behaviour. Are you on edge about something?" Mary asked "Does it have anything to do with the Bridgerton boy and his puppy dog eyes," "Shhh Mary," Kate hushed Mary as she looked around "If you must know I am a little on edge after the conversation I had with Anthony earlier," "Ahh so he finally told you about his feelings," Mary said. "You knew" Kate turned to Mary and the woman next to her shushed her. "Honey, he was quite obvious. I just thought you were not ready to deal with it because of all that business with Tom," Mary shrugged. "It is not about Tom. Not all the way at least," "Then what is it about?" Mary asked. Kate did not have an answer.
Kate was snapped back into the present when Anthony barged into the bathroom. "What the hell are you doing?" Kate exclaimed. Anthony visibly winced at her tone but shook it off "Are you well?" Kate recognised the concern etched on his face and softened "I am well," she replied. There was no denying it, Anthony's proximity to her in such a private space had a profound effect on her. She struggled to comprehend the whirlwind of emotions he brought out in her. She wanted to say something to him but for the first time in a long time, Kate Sharma had no words.
Anthony sighed "Kate... I feel I should apologise," "It's fine Anthony there is nothing to apologise for," Kate did want him to take back what he had confessed to her earlier. "And yet I must. I made a mistake-" "Don't Anthony. Don't say anything about what you said earlier 'being a mistake'," she hung her head. "I do not think what I said earlier was a mistake," Anthony said matter-of-factly. Kate's head shot up to look at him and he sighed "I just wish I had held on a little longer. I definitely did not wish for you to be so uncomfortable during the recital. Tonight is supposed to be about our sisters," "Anthony it's fine, really, I-" "Kate I must get this out," he took a breath and said "These feelings I have for you, I thought they would pass. I thought they would lessen but they haven't. I know you are spoken for and I know you despise me but I only wished for you to know. Mostly I wanted you to hear it from me. In my own words. I love you Kate Sharma and I am not hiding it anymore,"
Kate had been holding her breath. She wasn't sure for how long but as Anthony finished his speech she let out a long-awaited breath. For a while, there was nothing in the room but silence and Anthony must have taken Kate's silence as an answer because he made to leave. Kate had a burst of courage when she said "Anthony wait," He turned to look at her "I'm not spoken for," Kate internally kicked herself for focusing on that particular part of his speech "I mean. Me and Tom broke up... And I don't hate you," Anthony looked like he was holding his breath "I don't hate you so much I'm purposely late so we can get into spats about our differences in modes of travel. I don't hate you so much I have put far too much investment in my appearance these days. I don't hate you so much that I broke up with my very safe boyfriend because I would rather have your attention than his," Kate said with tears welling in her eyes.
Anthony walked up to her. He moved a loose curl from her eyes and Kate's breathing sped up "You broke up with Tom because of me?" She was too afraid about what her voice would sound like at the moment so she just nodded "Why didn't you say anything?" "Why didn't you?" Kate asked suddenly shy "I am not the one with a long romantic track record," Anthony lifted her face and Kate got a look into his eyes as he said "Kate, what I feel for you is otherwordly compared to what I have felt for other women," Kate scoffed and he said "I'm not exaggerating here. I talk about you all the time, I look for you in all rooms, Mary caught me sniffing you the other day," "What?" Kate giggled. Anthony leaned in and sniffed her. Kate held her breath "The scent that lingers on you. I don't know what is but it has been driving me nuts for months," Anthony leaned out and they were nose to nose when the bathroom door swung open, startling them both. It was Edwina who stood in the doorway, her gaze shifting between the two of them. "There's a key on the inside if you want privacy. I'll use the other loo," Edwina offered, her voice filled with a mix of amusement and understanding, before retreating.
Kate's senses snapped back to reality, and she quickly stepped backwards, creating a physical and metaphorical distance between herself and Anthony. She shook her head, attempting to dispel the intense thoughts that consumed her mind. In that fleeting moment, the potential for something electrifying had hung in the air.
"When did you break up with Tom?" Anthony asked. "Last month," Kate replied. "Good. He wasn't right for you," Anthony replied. "What gives you the right to decide who is and isn't right for me?" Kate asked with little to no bite in her tone. "It's not about him. It's about me. I think I'm the right one for you," Anthony replied as Kate locked eyes with him and he entered her space again. Anthony took hold of her neck and brought their foreheads together. "These feelings. I have been plagued by them for months now," she whispered. "We should do something about it," he whispered near her ear.
Anthony pulled Kate's head to his and their lips met softly.
The world around Kate faded into the background as their kissing intensified. Their bodies pressed against each other, the heat between them rising with every passing second. Anthony's hands roamed her back, sending shivers down her spine. She let out a soft moan, giving Anthony's tongue entrance. Her fingers threaded through the soft locks of his hair, pulling him even closer. He groaned as his tongue danced with hers, exploring her mouth and igniting a fire within her that he had never experienced before.
It was then that a person burst through the door. It was Daphne.
Kate and Anthony startled apart but Anthony held onto Kate's waist "I knew I was forgetting something," Anthony said. "Your sister's recital?" Daphne asked with a smile and a quirked eyebrow. "To lock the door," Anthony said with a bit of a growl that caused a shiver through Kate.
Daphne turned her shit-eating grin from Anthony to Kate and softened "Kate, Mary is looking for you. Intermission is almost over and Edwina's set is up next,"
Kate nodded and made her way to leave. She was going to miss the warmth of Anthony's body but she would hate herself if she missed Edwina's performance. Anthony grabbed a hold of her hand and Kate looked at him "I know. Later," she said.
"Later," Anthony said in confirmation.
Kate left the bathroom.
----
It had been a week since the recital and Kate was finally going on a date with Anthony. A proper first date. Anthony was going to be picking her up from Mary's place and Kate tried not to act nervous.
"Oooooh I'm so excited for you, didi" Edwina said as she floated around the room with barrels of excitement. "Thanks, bon," Kate said smiling at her sister. "Kate there is nothing to be nervous about. Anthony is in love with you already. All of this date stuff is merely a formality," Mary said as she rubbed soothing circles on Kate's back. "I know. I know. I just really want this to be good," Kate said. "I mean I'm sure you guys will end up making out again," Edwina said. "Edwina!" "Ed!" Kate and Mary both exclaimed. "What do you know about making out?" Kate asked. "Well, not a lot really. Only what I've read from books but Franny said that her sister caught you and Anthony making out in the bathroom at the recital," Edwina said shrugging. "So that's where you disappeared off to," Mary said giving Kate a curious gaze. Anthony was right she definitely got her discerning gaze from Mary. "You knew I went to the bathroom," Kate said shyly. "To calm down not to lock lips with a Viscount," Mary. "Please do not say 'lock lips'," Edwina said with a grossed-out look on her face. Mary ignored Edwina's remark and asked "Was it good?" Kate stood up "Okay we are not discussing this,"
The doorbell then rang.
----
"I'm really sorry Kate," Anthony said as he squeezed her hand. "It's fine Ant, I have family too, I understand," Kate answered. "It's just going to be a quick stop at the family house and then we can get back to our date," He said.
Anthony and Kate were on the way to the restaurant when he got a call from his mother, Violet, about a mess at home with his youngest sister, Hyacinth. Kate knew how much of a soft spot Anthony had for his youngest sister because he had basically raised her. Kate always thought she and Edwina were close so it was a relationship she understood. Kate in a lot of ways also replaced her father, he was the one who put on his fighting face for his girls and Kate was glad that she could fill that space for Edwina and Mary in his absence.
When Anthony's car pulled up into the driveway of his family home, Kate audibly gasped. She smacked Anthony's arm and said "You told me it was a house, not a mansion," "It's not a mansion... It's an estate," Anthony said and Kate rolled her eyes. "Oh my apologies, my lord," Kate said giggling. Anthony stopped the car and turned to her "Please don't call me that," "Does it bother you, my lord?" Kate said in a soft whisper causing Anthony's eyes to darken. "Nevermind I like it," He leaned over the gap to get closer to her and they kissed. It was soft not as lustful as the previous kiss they shared but Kate liked it, Anthony smelled good.
It was then that Anthony's mother, Violet knocked on the window of the driver's side.
"Oh, Anthony thank you for coming. Hyacinth is bouncing off the walls and refuses to bathe or sleep without you," Violet said as Kate and Anthony got out of the car "Oh Miss Sharma, I did not know you would be here too," "I told you about my date with Kate tonight, Mother," Anthony said exasperated. "Well, I am not sure about that but all the while it is nice to see you again dear," Violet said smiling in her direction. Kate would never admit it but the smiles Violet Bridgerton gave her always put her on edge. The smiles although polite made Kate feel like Violet was faking it, especially with her. "It's nice to see you again Lady Bridgerton," Kate said as she walked up to Anthony. "Oh please call me Violet," she said. Kate smiled and nodded "Mother where is Hyacinth now?" Anthony asked. "She's upstairs. In the playroom. Don't worry I will organise a car for Miss Sharma to get home," Violet said. Kate and Anthony looked at each other awkwardly. Anthony tightened his hold on Kate's waist and said "Kate and I are actually only here for a quick stop mother. Hyacinth is not as troublesome as you make her seem. We will be returning to our date afterwards," "Oh. Well, that is fine dear, go on up and see Hyacinth and I will tend to Miss Sharma," Violet said as she gestured them into the house.
Kate had never felt more awkward a day in her life. Violet kept sipping her tea and giving Kate weak smiles while Kate sipped at the bland English tea provided. Considering Kate was a first-time guest she did not dare to ask if there was any other tea available so she just tried not to make a face after every sip.
Kate did not know what she would talk about with a rich titled housewife. This was not her expertise, in fact, Kate spent most of her time on the antagonist end of people like her.
Just when Kate thought she should break the silence Eloise and Francesca walked into the drawing room.
"Mother, Hy is being a right old pain. Is there any way I could go to Pen's to study?" Eloise asked as she walked. She and Franny saw Kate sitting there so Kate waved. She felt silly. "Hi," Kate said softer than her usual tone. "Hi," Eloise said with her eyes narrowing "What are you doing here?" Eloise asked and Francesca bumped her with her elbow "What? It's not like Kate is the normal mid-week company," "Uh, your brother and I were actually on our way out actually," Kate said. "Like a date?" Francesca asked eyes wide. "No dear," "Yeah kind of," Violet and Kate both spoke at the same time and Kate looked at Violet and then looked away. Eloise looked from her mother to Kate and then her eyes narrowed at her mother "I'm surprised you would actually give someone like my brother the time of day. Considering your little lawsuit and endeavours go against everything he is," Kate could see Francesca stiffen and Kate chuckled "You are right about that but we don't have a lot of influence over who we like and I like to think my activities and endeavours have influenced your brother into making better decisions," "I mean isn't it exhausting having to explain your experience to someone like him. Wouldn't you feel better dating someone from your own background?" Kate stiffened at Eloise's question. This is not an uncommon thought that has plagued Kate's mind for a while but all she had to do was think about her stepmother and then she spoke "Explaining your existence to someone who is not willing to hear you is exhausting. But at the end of the day, that is what dating is, laying yourself bare to someone and them doing the same..." Kate took a breath "Would it be easier to date someone of my own race or social class? Yes but unless they too have two dead biological parents and were raised by their stepmother and were immigrants and solicitors then I would still be explaining myself in some ways. At least this way I'm doing it with someone who I-" 'want to kiss badly? want to stay in bed with all day?' Kate did not know how to answer. "I get it," Francesca said. Everyone turned to her "You and Anthony seemed to get on well and he is a lot harder on us to do well in school now, like those normally involved parents you see on TV," "Yeah," Eloise agreed. "I used to think that stuff didn't matter because we had money but as I've been around you and your sister, Edwina, I have realised that having ambition is not a bad thing," Francesca said strongly. "I'm glad. If there is one thing your brother prides himself on is his siblings' abilities. He thinks you are all so capable and he has giant dreams for you," Kate said getting a bit emotional because she understands that love Anthony has for his siblings but unlike Kate, Anthony was never good at expressing it out loud. "He said that?" Eloise asked eyes wide. "Yes. Last month he swallowed his pride and had to admit I was a good solicitor so he asked me all the things that it would take to be a good one, all the societies I was a part of, the grades I maintained and how I applied to universities and law school. I'm pretty sure he did that for you," Kate said to Eloise. Eloise visibly swallowed "Thanks for telling me that," "Of course," Kate said.
Violet got up at that moment in an effort to get Francesca and Eloise back into their rooms.
Just as Kate settled alone in the drawing room, Eloise walked back in.
"If my mother asks, I just came back to fetch this book," Eloise said as she picked up a random book off the table. "Sure," Kate said. "Kate, I want to be honest with you. My mother put me up to it," "Put you up to what?" Kate asked cautiously. "The blunt questions I asked you earlier. I was curious myself that's why I went along with her but she wanted me to ask. I don't think she likes the idea of you and Anthony dating," Eloise said not being able to meet Kate's eye. "Oh," Kate said. I guess her uneasiness around the matriarch was warranted.
Eloise and Kate's heads turned to the door when they heard Eloise's name being called.
"For what it's worth, I think you are good for him. I mean you make him sickenly happy but you also make him a better person. I think our family has gotten so used to complacency that we forgot what fun it can be to try," Eloise said. "Thank you," Kate said and she made to hug Eloise who returned it, although not as enthusiastically.
It was all Kate could think about once she and Anthony left his family home. Violet may not have been jumping for joy to see Anthony dating Kate, maybe it was because of the suit she brought to the school, but it did put Eloise and Francesca's admissions on probation. Although Anthony was able to move on from it, in fact, it got both girls to work harder and were in a better place in school than they had ever been. Kate wondered if Violet actually did know she and Anthony were going on a date today. Did Violet put Hyacinth up to her tantrum like she did Eloise and her probing questions? Maybe it was not such a big deal, Violet had every right to test the strength of Kate and Anthony's connection right? She was doing what any mother would do, right? Kate wondered if she actually met Violet's standards.
That being said it was hard to linger on feelings of inadequacy as Anthony grabbed and kissed her hand throughout dinner. As he whispered funny dad jokes in her ear. His hand on her thigh worked itself higher and higher until he had his hand basically on the apex of her thighs. He squeezed and Kate had to stifle a moan. Now she knew why he insisted on them sitting side by side at the table.
"Do you want to get out of here?" Kate whispered.
"Uh," Anthony blushed.
Kate chuckled "Don't tell me you are shy now, my lord?"
Anthony growled at the use of his title and Kate felt her temperature rising "I don't know Kate. This is our first date, I want to do the proper thing here," Anthony said.
"Well, you should have thought of that before you used my thigh as a stress ball," Kate said and sighed "Anthony, do you want to sleep with me?" she asked. "Yes. Of course, yes," Anthony said. "Then let's not make it any more complicated than necessary. We care for each other and are both super fit so what's the issue?" Kate asked. "Nothing. Not really," Anthony said "I just want you to know that I am serious about this. About us," He leaned his forehead to hers. "Are you serious about us? About me?" Kate asked with a quirked eyebrow. "Deadly," Anthony responded with a smile. Kate chuckled and then sighed "Anthony I don't want to wait. I want to be with you. All of you," "Me too. I feel like I have been waiting forever for you," Anthony said. "You don't have to wait any longer, love," Kate said.
Anthony lifted his hand to get the attention of the wait staff. After paying the bill and getting into Anthony's car. Kate laughed to herself "You know this is the first time I've had to convince a man to sleep with me," Anthony who was driving faster than necessary said "Trust me, Kate, your legs are all a man needs as evidence," "Well, what about my face?" Kate said in a pretend pout. "Perfect," Anthony said as an admission. Kate reached over to give Anthony a kiss on the cheek and he jeered off a bit "Anthony watch the road," "I'm trying everything I can to just watch the road here," he groaned. "Maybe I should just stick to my side of the car," "Maybe you should, temptress," Anthony said.
----
Present:
Anthony was not a religious guy. In fact, most people he knew only maintained religious mirages for appearances. Easter and Christmas churchgoers but Anthony was not raised super religious. You see his grandfather, the Seventh Viscount Bridgerton, was not exactly the nicest man. He was awful to his father and uncle because of their supposed bad behaviour, which coupled with his overly religious beliefs made him quite the beloved patriarch of the peerage. So when Edmund Bridgerton welcomed his first son, he vowed to never force them to be anything but themselves. Of course, it made it tough for him to be a disciplinarian but the Eighth Viscount had something his predecessor never had: his children's respect. None of the children did anything too bad because they feared their father's disapproval and they loved and respected their father, they would never want to disappoint him.
Yes, Edmund Bridgerton was a hard man to disappoint, that was until he died.
And Anthony thinks he has been disappointing him ever since. Lately, he has been feeling like it might be a good thing his father was not here to see him now.
So why was he in one of the chapels in the hospital? Avoiding his mother of course. She refused to talk about what he had overheard between her and Siena and Anthony had ordered her out. She refused to leave and for the first time in his life, he threatened his mother. It did not feel good and as she left he thought he would feel triumph but...
His mother was not his favourite parent, she never was. He knew she loved him and he loved her but Anthony valued his father more. There was a genuine nature in the way Edmund conducted his life. He apologised when he was wrong even to his youngest of children, he spoke politely and gently with everyone of every background and he never cared if the things his children did were embarrassing or out of the norm.
15-year-old Benedict coming out as Bisexual? Easy. 11-year-old Daphne wanting to commit to ballet? Sure. 6-year-old Eloise declaring herself a vegetarian? Sure. He even joined her. For a week.
His mother, on the other hand, was the opposite of genuine. Where her father was open and honest, his mother was secretive and cunning. Her kindness was only offered to those she knew, everyone else got a strained sort of politeness. He noticed with random people but it only came to the foreground of his mind when Kate came into the picture. She would be slow to smile, warn him more about appearances and stare at Kate which often made him want to ask what her problem was. But he never did. In a lot of ways, those first few moments of Violet disrespecting not just Kate but their relationship should have been a sign and he should have stopped his mother then and there.
He never did because he always thought if Kate had a real problem she would come to him but also Anthony thought his mother would see how happy he was and back off. She was always pestering him about getting into a relationship anyway.
If Anthony was honest with himself it made sense as to why he ended up in the chapel. Literally, he asked the nurse for a private place to think and they gave him the keys to the chapel, he was a high-profile patient so he really could do whatever but figuratively, Anthony needed divine intervention.
He had to switch psychiatrists because the first one was Kate's recommendation and she reminded him too much of Kate after their breakup. The second one was prominent amongst the peerage but then he got his license revoked after it was discovered he was basically running a pill mill for the wealthy. The third one was too invested in Anthony letting go of some of his family responsibilities and the last one was a good fit but she was young and after she texted him a little too flirtatiously Anthony gave up. If he was back in his twenties he would have stayed with the last one and crossed a line with her that he would have regretted later on because he regretted every girl he had been with back then. The only two women he didn't regret... Well, one probably hated him and the other well she had to hate him too despite his undying devotion to her.
He still had full prescriptions from each of the previous doctors and he figured it wasn't a big deal. He didn't do therapy before so he would be good now right? And if he was having trouble sleeping then he could take one of the sleeping pills from his prescription.
He told Siena he was going to sessions when really he was either at the gym or having a drink at the club. Well, one bad month turned into another and Anthony started popping sleeping pills to even take naps and when that stopped working he moved over to a different prescription. He thought it was harmless, he thought all sleeping pills were alike. Well, he now knows that not all pills gel well and he ended up face down, alone, in his apartment for hours until his mother found him.
He felt bad for scaring his family and his mother said with his permission they would be able to visit him but he did not think he could deal with their emotions on top of his own so he told his mother, Simon and anyone else who checked in on the family group chat that they can see him when he gets discharged.
He heard a knock on the door. That was either a nurse, his mother or the person he texted to save him from this hell and there she was his saviour... Eloise.

Beet and the Beauty
FINALLY got the next chapter of my Bushroot story done! Whoo! Link and snippet under the cut. (Bushroot x Rhoda Dendron)
Tumblr media
“There are so many things I can do. What happened to me showed me that I need to take a new approach to my work.” He looked out at the plants for several moments before turning his attention back to her. “And that applies to my life, as well.”
She took a step back, wondering if she could find her way back to the trail if she launched herself in one direction, she was pretty sure she had her bearings as Bushroot hadn’t meandered around to confuse her path here.
What happened to Gary and Larson? How did you obtain all this high-end equipment? What are you going to do to me? Instinctively, she put her hands in front of her.
“Please.”
“Please, what?” Bushroot asked, sounding genuinely concerned.
“Why did you bring me here?” she demanded. He stared at her for a moment.
“To have you here with me,” he replied calmly as he took a step toward her. “You don’t need to be afraid of me. I’d never harm you, I swear.”
She stared at him, studied him, looking for the man she knew. He was there, but that wasn’t the only thing making up this person. Plant-person?
“I… I feel faint." Her knees felt weak, and she struggled to stay up for a couple of moments before sliding to the ground. He was immediately at her side, a hand on her shoulder as he crouched in front of her. He lifted her chin, asking her questions such as if she was seeing double. She took a moment of comfort in this line of questioning, but it didn't change the reality. "Can I have some water, please?" She pulled her chin from his hand, hoping she hadn't done that too quickly.
Within several moments a glass of water was offered, its rim hovering centimeters below her lips. She let him tilt the container, taking several long gulps. The distraction helped her to assess the situation. He wasn't yelling at her or acting angry about this. He was being so kind and solicitous right now like the Reginald she knew.
“I realize my appearance is a shock, but I didn’t think I would make a beautiful woman swoon,” he said with a dry chuckle.
She looked up at him. "It is quite a shock. But I am still glad to see you. You know I worried about you…" And I am still worried. “Can I sit down somewhere?”
She was led to something that looked like a large pile of moss that had been molded roughly into the shape of an armchair. It had a pleasant give to it but was firm enough, and she let out a small sigh as she leaned her head back, feeling the dizziness ebb away as she finished her water. Barking met her ears, and she blinked as something that could only be described as a cross between a dog and a Venus flytrap was introduced to her.
Rhoda was glad she was sitting down and prayed that Reginald did not see the fresh horror that flashed across her expression. He talked to the creature much as if it was a dog, introducing it to her as 'Spike'. She could tell he was trying to put her at ease, but it was not having the effect he intended, although she would have loved it if his attempts worked. She looked around the space again, seeing the things Reginald had gotten.
“How did you get all this? You know as well as I do that our jobs did not pay that well,” she said, trying to broach the subject lightly.
“I stole it,” he replied matter-of-factly.

Finally uploaded the missing chapter of "Sheepdog" to AO3! Please check it out!
“It’s not a problem. It’s great. It’s really, really great”
“But?”
“This all feels like it’s happening so fast. I mean we never even talked about whether we wanted a family. And then the attack today. I just…”
“Well the attack was relevant. I should tell you that. I think what that person stabbed me with was some kinds of hormones. But I don’t know. I’d been thinking about this. Personally, I could have gone either way. We could have kept living like a pair of upper-crust hypocrites indefinitely, and I would have been fine with that. But at the same time, I wonder where I’m going to be twenty years out, and sometimes I think a shelf full of awards wouldn’t be enough to look back on. Honestly, I’d resigned myself that if it happens, it happens. And it… well…” she vaguely gestured to herself.
“I mean I know how much ‘traditional’ bores you. And hey! That makes two! But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have my fingers crossed things would land this way. You know, you say you’re going to make your life about your career, traveling all over the world, living the life of danger, to everyone remaining a stranger, other song lyrics. But then WHAM! You fall in love before you even realize it, and you start to rethink; Hey! The big house, and the two-point-five kids, and the white picket fence, and the dog named Spot. Maybe I can do it. Maybe cliche isn’t so bad. Maybe the thought of losing them is too painful to make straying from home worth it”
She looked at him with concern.
“Please… keep it” He glanced down at his shoes “I mean it’s your body, and I respect that, so you have the final word on this. But please. It would break my heart”
“What? Jimmy, no. It’s not about that. I’m not… You’re right. This is a lot to get our heads around. But we have plenty of time for that. And right now I’m too fucking hungry to think about it” She made her way over to the kitchen and started poking through the cabinets “What do you want? I don’t think i can handle fish right now. I could make spaghetti, but we’re out of sauce. What about pancakes? We can do a breakfast-for-dinner thing”
“Uh sure. Whatever you want. Breakfast, dinner, lunch”
Kim turned around “Are you sure YOU’RE okay? You look kind of pale”
“Never been better” He flashed her a tentative smile. “We’re really doing this thing?”
She leaned against the cabinets with her arms folded. She beamed at her husband confidently “Hell yeah”
Reluctant to sit down on the couch, he hastily proffered one last comment. “You’re gonna be a great mom”
She stopped whisking the batter and peered out into the living room. Without warning, her eyes had started to mist ever so slightly. “Thanks.” she answered matter-of-factly, and then realized the polite thing to do would have been to return the compliment. But she discovered she couldn’t hand out such accolades so liberally. When she wasn’t sure if it was true.

Glory of love(Eleazar Denali)
Chapter 7: first date blues
Table of contents
Tumblr media
When I got home I immediately raced up to my room to get ready, the ruckus woke up Duke and he quickly leped from his dog bed and followed me up to my room.
“y/n?” Bella said walking in confused. “What are you doing?” she asked as I opened my closet.
“got a date tonight” I smiled. Bella raised an eyebrow empressed. “really? With who?”
“Eleazar Denali” I said matter of factly. Bella's eyes widened. “my spanish teacher?”
I nodded. Bella hummed and shook her head. “well, have fun... I'm going to La push with some friends”
“okay, have fun” I said continuing to pace around my room trying to get ready.
I rummaged threw around my clothes and couldn't find anything that I thought suited for tonight. I sighed getting so frustrated I didn't relize a couple of drawers flew out on their own. Thinking the dresser was just old I closed them and continued getting ready.
Forgetting about clothes for a breaf second I hopped in the shower and washed my whole body twice. Before my hair could dry I quickly put in different hair products so the curls in my hair didn't get frizzy. As I styled my hair I dialed Leah's number and put on speaker phone.
“hello?”
“Leah I'm freaking out! I have a date tonight and I have nothing to wear! I know it's not your thing but I don't know what eles to do” I said putting part of my hair up.
“where are you going?” she asked. You could hear things shuffling around in the background as she spoke.
“movie date” I responded.
we'll be right over, hang tight girl” Leah said and hung up.
About twenty minutes later I had all my makeup and hair done just in time for the door bell to ring. I wrapped the towel around my body tighter as I jogged down the stairs and opened the door.
“you bellowed?” Leah said leaning on the door frame with a smile. Seth was behind her holding two of Leah's dresses.
I shook my head nervous. “you guys are my heros” I said pulling them into the house. “he's gonna be here any minute” Leah followed me to my room while Seth set down on the stairs with Duke so I could change.
“try this one” Leah said holding up a white summer dress with little blue flowers it was beautiful but not too fancy, it was perfectly.
“there's no way this is part of your wardrobe” I joked as I put the dress on. Leah helped flatten it out and moved it so it hugged my curves perfectly.
“it was a Christmas present from my grandma, I only wore it once... I hate the damn thing, but it looks amazing on you” she smiled.
As I walked to my long mirror to fix my hair the doorbell rang again. I walked down the stairs as Seth opened the door reveling Eleazar holding a bouquet of Red roses. He wore black slacks and the white dress shirt he wore fited his body in the best way possible.
“Te ves hermosa(you look beautiful)” he said soeachles. I blushed as he gave me the roses.
“thank you” I looked up into his gold orbs. “you look very Handsome”
He nervously looked and put his hands in his pockets. I smiled at his sudden shyness and let him in the house. “I need to put these in some water, come in”
He followed me and came face to face with the Clearwater's. “this my best friend. Leah and her brother Seth”
“nice to meet you” Seth smiled and shook his hand. “pleasure to meet you” Eleazar said smiling at the kid.
Leah tired to put up an over protective best friend facade, but other than that she introduced herself with a smile. The three made small talk as I put the roses in a vace. I came out of the kitchen and smiled at the three.
“ready?” I asked he nodded and followed me out the door.
“have fun you guys!” Seth called out from the front door as Eleazar opened his car door and helped me in.
By the time we made it to movie theater the moon was high in the sky. After we parked Eleazar opened the passenger car door and offered his hand. I took and he effortlessly lifted me up.
“what a gentleman” I smiled.
“of course” he smiled as he placed his hand on the small of my back as we walked into the theater. He gave the tickets to worker and we went to the designated screening room. No one eles was in the room, it was just us.
We sat towrds the middle in the dark room. As we got comfortable the movie started playing the classic Psycho them. I looked over at him studying how the screen lit up is gold orbs. He looked over at me and I quickly turned before I get cought staring.
After about ten minutes into the movie I was close to freezing. My body made an unexpected shiver, making Eleazar look over. “are you cold?” he whispered.
“just a little” I whispered back. On que Eleazar shedded his suit jacket and wrapped it around me. I felt my cheeks heat up as I slipped my arms through the massive holes. The Jacket was long on me and sleeves covered my hands in it's warm embrace.
“thank you” I said scooting closer to him. He looked over and smiled softly as he rested his arm on the arm rest next to mine. I looked down wanting so bad to feel bold. He was comfortable enough to give me his jacket so why couldn't I hold his hand.
My hand sliped out of the confines of his jacket making it jumble up at my wrist. His eyes were locked on the movie so inched my hand closer to his. I stoped once I felt his ice cold knuckles brush up against mine. I stoped once I saw him shift. I looked back at the screen and I felt his fingers lace together with mine.
I smiled up at him, not caring how much I was blushing. He looked down and smiled softly at me. As our eyes locked He leaned down. I stared at his lips the closer he got. When our noses brushed together I started to internally freak out. Was this really happening? I can't kiss a man on the first date.
I reluctantly turened my head to the screen. It was the shower scene. “this is the best part” I whispered. He gulped keeping our hands tangled together.
I felt bad for doing that to him. He didn't look hurt and respect my choice. Missing how close he was I leaned into his side and rested my head on his shoulder. Smiled feeling his arm wrap around me and his nose brush up against my head. I was burning up at how close we had gotten. Everything about him called out to me. I had to stop myself pulling him to my height for a searing kiss.
~~~~~~~~(.......)~~~~~~~~
After the movie we walked under the moon light in the park that wasn't too far from home. I glanced down at our intertwined fingers as we walked. His jacket still hugged my body making our hands disappear and reappear as we moved. My heart was beating so fast and I knew if I looked up in to his golden orbs it'll probably explode.
“So, your a Hitchcock fan?” he asked as strolled towrds swing set. “I love his work” I said setting down on one of the swings.
Eleazar walked in between the empty swing and mine and set down. “but, I don't want to talk about the movie” I chuckled.
“what do you want to talk about?” he asked wrapping his hands around the swing handles. I smiled and glanced over at him. “you” I said simply.
He raised an eyebrow suprised. “¿A mí?(me?)” he smiled and looked down. “What do we to know Querida(darling)”
I blushed at the name. He chuckled as he swnag the swing to left so we were closer. I shrugged meeting his gold eyes. “I don't know, tell me anything about yourself”
“I'm from Spain” he said swinging forward. “you told me that yesterday” I chuckled swinging too.
“okay how about this Amar(love)” he started. “I have five niceses and three nephews”
“what's your family like?” I asked softly. “me and my brother-in-law are thick as thieves... Carlisle is truly my best friend. Then you got my neices Tayna, Kate, and Irina. I adopted them after their mother passed away.”
“I'm sorry” I said softly. Eleazar shrugged. “she wasn't close to the family” he said, planting his feet on the ground so the swing stoped moving.
“Irina is the oldest, her and Rosalie are really close. Then you got Jasper, Emmett, and Tayna are three peas in a pod, they play pranks all the time... Alice is the peace of keeper. Then you got Edward, he's the youngest and really likes to get under Rosalie's skin” he chuckled. “they're all spoiled”
“sound like a hand full” I chuckled. Eleazar smiled and crossed his arms as he leaned on the frame of the swing set. “they have their good days and their bad days”
“what about yours?” he asked catching me off guard. I cleared my throat. “umm... I'm not really close to my family besides my dad. Bella and I are close as two sisters could be dispute us not agreeing with everything” I chuckled. “I had a grandpa I was really close to... We called him papa, but he's not around anymore”
“I'm sorry” he said softly. I shrugged. “It was a long time ago” I looked up at him. “I think he would have liked you... He would teas you a bit, but that's how he showed he cared”
Eleazar cleared his throat then took a deep breath. “I devorced my wife about six years ago” my heart skipped a beat as he grabed the hand thst was once on the swing handle.
“what happened?” I asked softly. He shuffled his feet in the dirt than looked up at me. “I was aprt of this... Group if you will, I quit the job when we first got married for her. As the years went on I thought things were going good, but she started to talk to someone I used to work with... I didn't realize we were drifting apart till one day I found them in bed together” he said kicking a rock, hard.
“I would never do that to you” I spoke truthfully. I stood up and walked towrds him.
“but this...” I said taking his hand. “What I'm feeling for you is so intimidating and I'm scared to screw it up”
“it is rather intimidating” he said taking my other hand. “but... Let's try us, if you'll have me” he whispered pulling my hand to his lips and kissing the back of my hand.
“okay” I smiled.
I don't know how it led up to it, but I wasn't complaining either. There was no one eles around so we we're just slowly dancing to the music that was playing on his phone. He played Elvis presley's can't help falling and put in the pocked of his suit jacket.
I chuckled as he twirled me then brought me back to his chest. I looked into his eyes and smiled. “I don't want this night to end” I whispered.
“I know the feeling” he smiled as he rested his forehead on mine.
Thunder started to rumble and like a light switch it started to pour on us. We laughed and we just continued to dance. Pretty soon we were both soaked and I started shiver.
He twirled me then pulled me to his ice cold chest. I big shiver left my body as we made contact. Eleazar looked us and lead me to a near by gazbo. “come on your drinched”
Once we got shelter from the ran we started to laugh hysterically. I ran my fingers through my curls making water droplets fall on the wood of the floor. I walked to railing and watched the rain fall. Eleazar joined me shortly after, but he wasn't looking at the rain.
“why are you looking at me like that?” I asked with a chuckle. Without missing a beat, he made the space between us smaller with a smile on his face.
“because your beautiful” he stated with nothing but to truth in his eyes. I blushed and looked away. His hands moved to my chine and turned my head so our eyes met again.
“truly beautiful.... Your all I see miss. Swan” he whispered. He stared into my eye. His gaze was so intense and full of love I wanted to break the 'no kiss on the first date' rule.
“can I kiss you?” he said just above a whisper. I quickly nodded not trusting my words.
I looked at his lips as he moved closer to me. His hand cupping my cheek pulling me in.
My fingers found the collar of his white shirt and curled around them, using it to pull him in for a passionate kiss. Eleazar moaned as one of his hands were quick to find their home at my waist. The kiss consumed every Cell of my body. I felt Pleasure I never felt before as his toung slipped in meeting mine.
I let out a slight moan as my hands traveled to curls at neap of his neck. My fingers played with them softly making a soft groan rumble from his chest. I pecked his lips one last time before pulling away. He rested his forehead on mine as I cought my breath.
“why didn't we do that sooner” I chuckled. He smiled and placed a delicate kiss on my nose. “it was amazing... Worth the wait” he whispered.
We giggled softly as his large hand came up and cupped my chin. “I'd love to kiss you again” he said.
“what's stopping you?” I said. He leaned down and pressed his lips back to mine. He let out a content sigh as our lips moved gracefully together. I could kiss him forever and when he kissed me I believed in our Forever.
~~~~~~~~(.......)~~~~~~~~
I sighed in dispontment as his car stoped infront of my house, concluding our date. “thank you for tonight” I smiled as our fingers laced together.
“I should be the one thanking you miss. Swan, it was the most fun I had in a long time” Eleazar said. I leaned in towrds his side of the car and placed my lips on his.
“let me walk you to the house” he said. Eleazar got out of the car and opend my door. He followed me to my door and I let out a depressed sigh, I wasn't ready to part ways.
“good night Eleazar” I said softly.
He leaned down and pecked my lips “Buenas noches(goodnight)”
As he pulled away I could tell something weighed heavily on his shoulders. I looked at him concerned but he smiled and kissed my forehead. “see you at school love”
“bye” I whispered. He walked down the steps then stopped, as I was about walk in the house he spoke up. “y/n there's something I need to tell you”
I turned around preparing myself for whatever he had to say. “and I understand if you never want to talk to me again when I tell you what I'm about to say... And it's crazy”
I gave him a worried look. “just tell me... Everything will be fine”
His gold eyes hit the pavement as his hands felll to his pockets. He took a deep breath and our ours locked. “me and my family are vampires” he said plainly.
I think I should be more suprised, but then after he admitted it everything started to make since. He looked down afraid of my reaction. I took a deep breath as he continued to explain. “we don't hurt people... We feed on animal blood and we want to live amongst the humans... I'm sorry Querida(darling) I just couldn't start off our relationship with a lie”
I should have probably ran for the hills, but I didn't every fiber of my soul told me I could trust him. I walked down the steps and stood on the last one he was standing in front of. I wrapped my arms around his neck hugging him tightly. “I don't care... I still want to be with you”
“Bueno, eso es un alivio Amor(well, that's a relief Love)” he said into my hair. He pulled away from me and smiled. “get some sleep” he said.
“goodnight” I said squeezing his hand before he left to his car.
Once I got in the house let out a content sigh as I leaned on the door to close it.
“so, how was it?” Seth said making me jump. I looked over and Seth and dad where both in the living room wide awake, aside from Leah who was fast a sleep on the couch.
I placed my hand hand on my chest getting over the jump scare they caused me. “oh my god, you guys are still up”
“yeah but we want to hear everything about the date” Seth said.
“just for the record not everyone wants to hear everything” my dad said getting nervous.
I was about to say something but Seth cut me off. “it's pretty late, did he take you anywhere else? Was there good night kiss?”
“that for an example is something I don't want to hear” Dad said cringing. I rolled my eyes and smiled.
“I'm going to bed and I think you guys should too” I said walking up the stairs. “good night guys”
“she seems happy” I hear Seth say from upstairs.
“I can hear you guys” I sighed before closing my door. For the first time in forever I feel asleep with a smile on my face.

“And then there was one.” The Watcher says and takes a deep breath. He knows this won’t be easy with her. He knows what she endured. He saw it all and it broke his heart.
“I won’t go back there.” She says matter-of-factly. “My world is …” It takes her a moment to consider how to name it. Her world… her world was Clint. And he is… “… gone! You won, but I lost.” Yes, she lost everything. Literally. Not only she lost Clint, but there was no one left. As far as she knows Clint and her were the last human beings left on earth. Ultron and his army of robots killed each and every human on the planet and even most of the animals. And they invaded other planets too. So was he really going to send her back to a dead world?
“I cannot…” the Watcher starts but she cuts him off.
“… interfere? Yeah, I know!” Natasha turns to him now, anger and pain sprawled all over her face and waving through her whole body.
“We’re just stories to you. We’re not real. You watch us fight, win, lose… tell me: Did you make popcorn while Ultron murdered my friends and burned my world to the ground?” That’s what it feels like for her. He saw all this happening and chose not to help. How can he live like that… exist like that? She definitely couldn’t.
“You are more than that to me. You… your stories… they… are everything for me.” It’s dawning to her that the huge creature with the glowing eyes in front of her maybe never had a life for his own. So he lived through them.
“Then fix my world!” she pleads, her voice softer now but still full of pain.
“I can’t, Natasha.” It sounds honest but it makes her angry again. He is so powerful. Why can’t he help her?
“I’m not walking through that door!” It’s a statement. No space for discussion. If he wants to send her back to that dead world so she can spend the rest of her miserable existence in solitary, he can better kill her right here and now. Maybe if there is some sort of afterlife, she would be reunited with her friends then, her family… Clint.
“Well… the door was more of a metaphor anyway.” He states and the surrounding of the bar is melting away. Natasha braces herself, not knowing where he is going to bring her. Not knowing how she could possibly fight him if he is really going to return her to this pile of ashes that once was her world. But he is not. He knows several universes which lost their Black Widow, several universes where she could do good, where she would be needed. It wasn’t easy to decide where the best place for her was. She really had earned herself a place where she could find a happy ending.

Episode 5 - Under the skin
Tumblr media
It’s not a sloppy dog tongue that wakes him nor the rising sun. It’s also no sound because he took out his hearing aids. No, what wakes him - and when it does it’s already past noon - is the delicious smell of coffee and fried bacon.
He prys his eyes open and sees the cup of coffee still steaming at the edge of the coffee table near his head. He reaches for his hearing aids next to the mug and puts them in. When he turns them on, he hears music and a low humming and singing voice from the kitchen.
While he thinks about which song this might be, he lifts his head from the couch and sees Natasha swaying her hips to the music at the stove. She is still wearing his clothes and obviously in a pretty good mood. He smiles with a sigh.
“I could wake up every day like this.” he mumbles in a low voice, too low to catch her attention over the music.
Still smiling he sits up and grabs the coffee mug, smelling the aroma. By finishing half the mug she turns in a dancing move and stops by his sight.
“Oh sorry, did I wake you? You looked so exhausted we wanted to let you sleep as long as possible.” she says with a little shrug and a half smile.
“Then you shouldn’t bring coffee near me… that’s a trigger.” He takes another sip. “And bacon? You’re lucky not the whole apartment house is already here.” He ruffles through his hair and she laughs a bit.
“You have a really bad case of bed head, Barton. But I have to say… it suits you.”

Good Morning!
I have an ask, please. I'm in a mood.
"This is your last chance, Widow"
hope you had a fabulous weekend!!
Hey dear! 😘
Thank you, I had kind of. At least better then the last one because I'm finally free of Covid again! 🥳
Let's celebrate with your prompt, shall we?
...
1. Whump
"This is your last chance, Widow!"
The sour smell of the mobsters breath made her nauseous. Like he drank strong coffee mixed with cheap booze directly out of a trash can full of cigarette butts and fish waste.
"NO!" She spat the word and drops of blood and spit spashed across the guys face. "This is YOUR last chance! Let me go, or I guarantee ... you won't like what happens next." Despite her tightly bound body and bruised features she had an evil grin in her face. But the man just laughed and his companions with him.
"Are you trying to threaten me, little spider? You aren't quiet in the position, don't you think? What do you want to do?" Of course he was mocking her. People often mock about others if they think they have the upper hand. Until they don't...
"Kill them all!" Her voice was low. She knew she didn't have to speak loud... only move her lips properly.
Another laugh. "What? Do you think you can command me and I do as you wish, silly girl? Have I beaten you too hard in the head?"
"Oh... who said I was talking to you?" Her voice so sweet and the expression on his face so clueless. It stays that way only his eyes a little wider when an arrow impales his head.
....
2. Fluff
"This is your last chance, Widow!" He whispers softly and licks his lower lip, his eyes not leaving hers. "I warn you one last time. Keep looking at me like that... and I can't guarantee for anything!"
"We are on a mission, Hawk!" She taunts him but the grin on her lips is the one of a cat that just got the bird. "Are you really distracted so easily?"
"Easily? You are teasing me for days now! I'm just a man and not immune to a gorgeous woman and her charms." He is breathing heavy now and their cramped hideout suddenly seems even tighter.
He caught her of guard, he can tell by the way her gaze changes and her lips part slightly.
"What? I'm deaf, not blind! But... you know... you're my best friend and... "
"Shut up!" She presses him to the wall with their bodys colliding and and lips crashing. He reacts immediately, one hand sliding to her hip, the other buried in her hair, tongue diving into her mouth. This is what electricity must taste like, he thinks when he hears a crackling in his good ear.
"Team Delta... show time!" Never has Phil's voice sound so unnerving and they both groan as they part.
"I guess we have to continue this later, Widow. Ready?" He asks while he fixes her hairstyle.
"No... but I'll be right behind you, having your back, Hawk... like always!"
Sorry!!! It's longer then intended but too short at the same time. But I hope you enjoy it anyway. 🙈😘

Some early morning Clintasha
It's early morning and Clint is not even half awake. But there is a briefing in half an hour. So he is in the kitchen fumbling with the coffee maker and spilling coffee powder all over the counter. "Aw coffee no!" He groans and yawns afterwards.
Warm arms wrap around his waist and a familiar body press against his unclothed back. Her hands roam his belly and her lips press against his shoulder.
"Why don't you get this thing going and meet me in the shower... and get me going?" She purrs into his ear... and suddenly he is full awake!

Meine #1 des Jahres 2022
Living in my little "We love and appreciate Clint Barton as the wonder he is"-bubble I keep forgetting how the rest of the world sees and treats him.
Tried to convince my sister - a regular MCU watcher without comic or any beyond Fandom knowledge - to watch the Hawkeye series with me. Even started the trailer since I thought it would help the matter. And she was like "Nah, he's so boring. No powers or anything. And look at that trailer. He doesn't even seem to be good in what he's doing." I nearly hyperventilated.
Thank you MCU for making one of the most badass, deep and fun characters look like a pathetic whimp for the average audience. 😓

"When you blush it's the cutest thing ever." for PeterPatterLina please?
Julie freezes as the sounds floating from the studio reach her ears. Her breath catches.
It’s the bright twang of a banjo, accompanied by an acoustic guitar, and a smile slowly spreads across her lips, tugging at her cheeks so hard they hurt. Her heart swells with the music, and she slips into the studio unnoticed by the boys making it, quietly bobbing along with the beat.
They’re caught up in the melody, in the euphoria of riffing off of one another. When they finally let the last few notes ring out, grinning at each other from all of five inches apart on the couch, it’s with an air of triumph. The look they’re sharing is ridiculously fond, and without even a microphone between them, the notion that they might kiss as naturally as they were just playing together—as naturally as breathing—hits her more strongly than ever.
She knows that they won’t, though, not yet, so she claps and lets out a little cheer. Reggie startles, but Luke merely redirects his grin and gives her a little head tilt, a silent come here.
Julie plops down between them, so close that she’d practically be in their laps if it weren’t for their instruments, which makes Reggie squeak and Luke laugh. He drops a kiss on her bare shoulder, still grinning, and slides his guitar strap over his head, gently placing it beside the couch so she can snuggle even closer if she wants to. She does, but—not yet.
They have to do this right.
She sends Luke a knowing look, and his eyes glitter with understanding.
“So, what’d you think, boss? Didn’t Reg come up with the most killer lines?”
“He’s wicked talented with the banjo.” Reggie makes a startled sound, and when she steals a glance at him, his cheeks have taken on a pleased, bright pink flush. She melts at the sight, and the rest of her thoughts trickle out, infused with a honey-sweetness she couldn’t possibly hide. “You don’t need me to tell you it was amazing. It was, though, for the record. You both are.”
Reggie hugs his banjo to his chest. He looks at her through his lashes and then away.
“You really liked it that much?”
“We really like you that much,” Luke says matter-of-factly, blithely continuing even as Reggie and Julie both shoot him panicked looks for presumably different reasons, “but also yes. We are very into you and your soul and the songs that come pouring out of it. You are probably the only person who could ever open my heart to banjo music, so. I don’t know how else to tell you—”
“You’ve been trying to tell me that you love me.” The words leave Reggie’s lips with breathless wonder. He turns to Julie for confirmation. “Right? Oh my god if I’m wrong please just pretend I never said anything, or maybe tell everyone I died and left the country—no, say—say I ate a bad hot dog or something, it’d still be way less embarrassing—”
She has to laugh—she can’t help it. She’s overflowing with fondness for both of these boys. Reggie starts to shrink away, but she gently touches his cheek, and he unfurls like a flower with a soft sigh. Luke unglues himself from Julie’s side to circle around and settle on Reggie’s, coaxing the banjo out of his arms, and they take his hands.
Julie lays her words out more carefully than Luke had. He doesn’t mince them, and from him, it was quite the confession, but she wants to erase every shred of doubt left in Reggie’s head.
“Yes, Reggie. We love you. I wasn’t laughing at you. It’s just that—when you ramble, or when you bounce around on stage, or—”
“When you smile,” Luke interjects softly, and Reggie’s eyes get wide as he’s finally struck by the implications of the song Luke wrote about him. Julie has to smile, herself.
“Whenever you make a joke you’re really proud of, or you’re really in your element—when you blush—it’s the cutest thing ever. We could go on—”
“No, I get it now,” he says faintly. His hands tremble, and they grasp them tighter. “Um—thanks.”
Luke barks out a laugh and knocks his knee against Reggie’s.
“Come on, bro, we just poured our hearts out to you and all you can say is thanks?”
“I’m equally overwhelmed and appreciative! What’s your excuse for calling me bro, still?”
She props her chin on Reggie’s shoulder. “It’s a term of endearment from Luke.”
“Oh,” Reggie breathes. “In hindsight, that’s like—incredibly obvious. But—I love you, too. Both of you, of course, because you’re both ridiculously amazing and like, not that Alex isn’t amazing, but he’s also taken—but you guys have always also been taken with each other so—”
“Reg.” Luke silences him by placing his fingers on his lips. “Stop trying to rationalize every corner of your heart and kiss us, maybe. Only if you want to.”
“I don’t need to think about that,” he murmurs. “I want to.”
Much like everything he’s ever said about playing the banjo, he makes good on his claim.

[LOSING CONTROL] @rockheadcd asked: ⛓ go fuck up mine boy a lil. :) (no longer accepting/please see tags!!) (feat. @electrivolt !!)
"It's a shame that we have to finally meet like this," Jupiter declares, idly picking at a nail as she leans back in Roark's rickety swivel chair, clad in her full Galactic gear. The tiny Oreburgh Gym office is a complete mess, empty Pokeballs and fallen documents scattered across the dusty floor.
At Jupiter's feet lies the Gym Leader in question--her unlucky target on this inky-black evening--his shaken body curled against the locked door as he tries not to focus on the Skuntank tail hovering just inches from his face.
It smells absolutely rancid in these cramped quarters, the omnipresent smirk on the Commander's lips hidden by the black protective mask covering both her mouth and nose. Roark is afforded no such luxury, and Jeleva's wafting scent inflames every shuddering breath, makes tears spring to his eyes.
Skuntank's disgusting fumes aren't necessarily lethal, but every second spent unmasked in this room is decidedly unhealthy and torturous, a burning assault on the senses.
Roark doesn't deserve this. Any of it. Just a short while ago, he had been going above and beyond as a Leader by responding to a distress call from his Gym in the dead of night, only for Jupiter to viciously ambush him once he stepped foot inside the building. In a fair fight, the experienced miner-battler would probably emerge victorious...but Jupiter never fought those fights. Within moments, she had subdued the shocked Roark, using her team to drag him into the back office--far away from prying eyes.
It's unfair, underhanded...but Roark never stood a chance. Slumped against the door now, glasses laying at his side, he can only keep breathing under Jeleva's beady watch as his captor finally begins to explain herself.
"You have a dear friend," Jupiter states matter-of-factly, her eyes narrowing as friend is spat with disgust. "I don't know if he's informed you of his...misadventures, but he's been acting like quite the rebel lately. Interrupting Galactic plans. Physically assaulting grunts in your mines. Unacceptable behavior."
She's careful to leave out any mention of Volkner's secret alliance--with a few more pushes towards insanity, the Sunyshore Gym Leader would undoubtedly break all on his own...and the Commander is hoping to have a front-row seat to the collapse. For Jupiter, Roark is merely a pawn...a tool used to further drive her 'plaything' towards madness. Arceus, how she hated him.
"Insolence will not be tolerated. Interfering with our grand vision will not be tolerated," Jupiter explains, her voice hardening with anger. "You will talk some sense into that feral dog and end his little vigilante experiment, or the consequences will continue to escalate." She rises from the seat, squatting down in front of Roark's fallen frame, her gleaming purple eyes boring into him like Oreburgh's drills. "However, if both of you can stay in line and behave, there will be no reason for us to see each other again. Wouldn't you hate for there to be further...collateral damage?"
Tumblr media
With a humorless laugh, Jupiter straightens up again, looming over the Gym Leader as she extracts a spare mask from her suit pocket and casually drops it on his head. There's a flash of red light as Jeleva is mercifully returned to her Ball, and then one more brutal swing--the Commander drives her boot hard into Roark's side to move him from the doorway, glasses falling from his shaken grasp. Without a second thought, Jupiter crushes the lenses under heel as she exits.
It's classless bully behavior, but Galactic's enforcer allows herself to revel in the fleeting moment of superiority. Roark's office is a mess--terrible fumes already contaminating the main Oreburgh Gym--and the miner is only faring slightly better. It won't be long until Volkner hears about this, like she knows he will. Jupiter's smile widens. She'll be long gone from here by then. I hope you'll receive my message loud and clear, brat.
Insolence will always be punished.

Old Tapes and Sunny Days | Chapter 3: One look out my window, there’s trees talking like people
“Hello, baby, how are you?” Nabi’s mom called her for the third time that day. It wasn’t the first time she stayed at home alone, but, for some reason, her parents needed to make sure she was alright this time.
“Hi mom, still studying,” Nabi liked having the house for herself. No one was bothering her for being in her pajamas all day long, and she got to eat whatever she wanted whenever she wanted.
“Did you eat?”
“Yeah,”
“Proper food?”
“Yup,” she lied. She had microwave ramyun for breakfast. “How is Berlin?”
“Belgium,” her mom corrected.  “The flight was delayed, the hotel is not the best, to be honest. But I can’t really complain,”
“Is Belgium the one with the waffles?”
“What waffles?”
“Never mind,” Nabi sighed, sad that her mom didn’t know about Belgium’s worldwide famous waffles.
“Honey, can you make sure to water the plants?”
“Sure,”
“The ones in the front garden as well, please,”
“Okay,”
“Well, I must leave. Behave, see you on Wednesday,”
“Bye,”
“Behave,”
“Yup,”
“Study hard,”
“I will. Bye!”
Nabi decided it was the best moment to take a break from studying calculus to water the plants before she forgot again. In moments like that, she liked to romanticize her life, allowing herself to believe for a second that she was a successful entrepreneur that had her own house.
“I need a dog,” she said out loud, thinking of ways to complete her fantasy. She finished watering her mom’s plants and kept on snoozing her responsibilities, going to the armchair that was unofficially her dad’s seat to continue reading the novel she only read when she was alone.
Ahn Nabi: This is disgusting!
Lee Dani: Hello
Lee Dani: What is?
Ahn Nabi: Lara picking Seb over Oliver!!
Lee Dani: Did you finish already?
Ahn Nabi: Almost
Lee Dani: Where are you?
Ahn Nabi: They ran away to the city
Lee Dani: Oh, so you already read the cringy car sex thingAhn Nabi: Gross. I can’t believe she picked Seb
Lee Dani: I like Seb
Ahn Nabi: Of course you do
Her reading and book discussion was interrupted by the doorbell. Nabi seriously considered not opening, after all, her parents were not home and she had clear instructions not to talk to strangers. She stopped moving, and even breathing, just to make sure the unprompted visitor couldn’t hear her. When she was sure they had left, the bell rang again, so she gave up and headed to the door, reminding herself she was an adult who had nothing to be afraid of.
“Hello, dear, how are you?” a woman she had never seen was standing outside her door.
“Good morning. Are you looking for my parents? They’re not home,” Nabi anxiously wondered if she was wrong for revealing that information to the stranger.
“Oh, really? That is Mr. Ahn’s truck, isn’t it?” The lady pointed to her dad’s car across the street.
“Yeah,”
“Well, you see, that’s my house,” the lady kindly said. “I’m trying to get my car out of the garage but I’m afraid your dad’s car is the way,”
“Oh, I’m so sorry!” Nabi grew very anxious, not even knowing where the keys were. “Give me a minute,”
“Sure, thanks,” the lady just crossed the street and walked inside her house in peace while Nabi had a breakdown for not knowing where her dad had hidden the keys. After 5 minutes which felt like 30, she finally called her parents to ask them.
“Hi, apple pie, how are you?” her dad happily answered the phone.
“Dad, where are your car keys?”
“I have them with me, of course,” he said matter-of-factly. “You don’t even have a license, that’s why I didn’t leave them home,”
“Dad, I need to move the car, the neighbor can’t get out! Where are the copies?”
“I will not fall for that one,”
“I’m serious!”
“I left the copy at Mr. Kim’s place,”
“Dear Lord, why?!” she was losing her patience at the avalanche of inconveniences coming her way.
“Go to the neighbor’s house, apologize, and tell them the copies are on the way,” her dad didn’t give her time to complain about how it wasn’t her who needed to apologize, he simply hung up.
She ran out of the house and crossed the street, heading to the neighbor’s house.
“I’m so sorry, my dad left but he said keys are on the way,” she told the lady, who was struggling to sit her baby in the baby seat of her own car.
“No worries, we’ll wait,” it was almost annoying how peaceful she was. “I’m Mrs. Choi, by the way. Choi Ji-woo. This is my son Hajoon,”
“Hi, I’m Nabi,” she was still too anxious to socialize, but she appreciated the lady’s effort to make things less awkward.
“We moved in last week,” the lady said. “I met your mother the other day, she’s very kind,”
“Oh, are you new to the city?”
“We lived in America for the past couple of years, but we’re originally from Gwangu,”
“Oh, that’s so cool!” Nabi said, trying to keep the conversation going. “Welcome! Or, well, welcome back I guess, ha-ha,” she awkwardly laughed. “The neighborhood is nice and quiet. You won’t have any trouble. Well, I guess we’re the trouble right now, I’m so sorry for that. I guess Dad didn’t know that there were people living in this house now. I don’t know what was on his mind when he parked here, I’m so sorry,”
She desperately needed to stop talking. She was actually starting to sweat from the embarrassment. Just as if she needed more humiliation, her dad’s friend’s handsome son was walking across the street, heading straight to where she was.
“Hi,” Kim Seokjin casually greeted. “Your dad called. Here are the keys,”
“Oh, thanks. Sorry for the disturbance. Mrs. Choi, this is Kim Seokjin, he lives nearby. He goes to my school,” Why am I saying this? Somebody stop me! she thought. “He is a friend of my dad, well, he is the son of my dad’s friend,”
“Nice to meet you,” Seokjin bowed to greet the lady, clearly confused by the sudden introduction.
“Oh, nice to meet you, too,” Mrs. Choi chuckled, clearly amused with the situation. Her baby didn’t seem to be having such a great time, getting impatient as to why his mother had not moved the car yet. “I think this one really wants to go to his doctor’s appointment,”
“Oh my God! I’m so sorry,” she handed back the keys to Seokjin, who looked at her very confused. “I don’t have a license,”
He sighed, took the keys, and helped her move the car, parking it outside her home as it should. Mrs. Choi thanked them and finally left with her kid, leaving Nabi and Seokjin alone in the street.
“Thanks,” was all Nabi could say.
“Sure,” he said, putting the keys to her dad’s car back in his pocket. “Mom asks if you have food,”
“Of course I do,” she couldn’t stop herself from frowning.
“Okay,” he sighed, scratching the back of his head. “She asked me to call you to invite you to dinner, but I don’t have your number. I realized I gave you mine but you didn’t give me yours,”
He handed her his fancy phone, letting her know he was not leaving until she gave him her number. She gave up, feeling compromised to do so since he had come all the way to move her dad’s car.
“Tell your mom thanks, but I have food,” she said, getting very frustrated for some reason.
“Alright,” he put his phone in his hoodie’s pocket and cleared his throat awkwardly. “Well, I guess I’ll go back home,”
“Okay, thank you,”
“No problem,” he smiled before turning around and leaving. Nabi ran back home, locked the door behind her, and hid in her room, feeling even more embarrassed as she realized she was still wearing her pajamas, and she was not wearing the minimum amount of makeup.

I am deeply intrigued by Sir Terry Pratchett’s master/pet kink. I choked on my cereal when Gaspode told Angua that Carrot was now her “master”, and if he called her she’d have to choice but to go to him. Didn’t expect Pratchett to be horny on main. It’s ballsy. Mad respect.
And he didn’t just repeat it in Jingo, having her say the same thing plainly to Vimes, but by using dog-imagery with Vimes as well (Everyone is somebody’s dog, Vetinari’s terrier etc), he links the concepts, and so Vimes’ relationship with the Patrician becomes kinky as well. The coming and going on command also has a parallel; Vimes thinks twice (once in Feet of Clay when Vetinari dismisses him from his bedside, and once in the Prince’s tent in Jingo) that Vetinari can turn him on and off like a switch.
There is also, a little more tenuously, the characterisation of the guild dogs as dogs who are always afraid that they are “bad dogs” deep inside, and Vimes’ similar feeling that he’s just a “collection of bad habits”. But I’ll have to read Fifth Elephant and beyond to see if that connection gets stronger or weaker.
Didn’t expect you to go there, Sir Terry, but I’m into it.

Part six-
====≈===============================
Tumblr media
Y/n sat in the booth at the restaurant waiting for Thor, fidgeting with her hands. Her mind going a mile a minute. What would he say, would he think less of her for not saying anything sooner. She looked at her phone, he was late. Was he not coming? She started to panic "maybe I should forget the whole thing" she said to herself and started to get up to leave when Thor rushed in. "Lady y/n!! So sorry I'm late, i was delayed by......someone" he said as he sat down. She looked at him suspiciously and slowly sat back down.
"It's fine Thor, I just wasn't sure if you were still coming." She said looking at her hands. "Y/n, I wouldn't do that to you" he said gently grabbing her hand. They sat in silence for what felt like forever when she finally spoke "Thor, there's something I need to tell you, something I need to.........." She paused. Thor sat there silently, not wanting to rush her. "You know, maybe this was a bad idea." She said and pulled her hand away to get up. Thor grabbed her hand "y/n, whatever it is you can tell me. I'll help anyway I can." And there were those puppy dog eyes again.........
"OK, but this needs to stay between us until I can figure out what to do" she whispered to him. "You have my word y/n" he said with his hand on his chest. Y/n sighed "Thor, I'm pregnant" she blurted out before she could stop herself, and looked at him. He sat there staring at her for a few minutes. "Is it......" he started "yes, it's his" y/n said matter of factly. Thor opened and closed his mouth a few times trying to find something to say but nothing came out. "I don't want anything from him, I honestly almost didn't want to tell him" she said looking down at the table. Thor sat there nodding in understanding. "But, he does have a right to know, it is his child after all" she said. "How can I help" Thor asked, and they came up with a plan.....
Thor rushed back to the tower in search of Loki. "Brother!!!" He shouted but got no answer. He ran to Loki's room but he wasn't there. He went to the kitchen, the training room, Loki was no where to be found. There was only one other place he could be thought Thor and he ran upstairs to the roof. As he made his way out he saw Loki sitting on the edge staring at the city, he slowly walked up behind him. "Brother....." Thor said quietly but Loki didn't acknowledge him, so he sat down next to him. He looked over and saw his brothers tears. "I'm sorry Thor, for everything. I've ruined everything, maybe happiness for me is not meant to be...." Loki said looking down at his hands. At that Thor pulled him into hug, refusing to let go.
They sat there in silence for a while before Thor spoke. "Brother, there is something I need to discuss with you." Loki didn't say anything and just looked at him. "Y/n has something she needs to dicuss.......with you." Thor said and Loki's eyes lit up "she wants to talk to me!?!" Loki asked. "Loki, I think it best not to assume yet. Just let her tell you what she needs to tell you" Thor said in a stern tone. Loki nodded his head. "She wants to meet with you at the coffee shop around the corner in an hour" Thor said. And with that Loki jumped up to get ready. Thor shook his head, worried that his brother was getting his hopes up, but with the news, maybe there was hope........
Loki got to the coffee shop but y/n wasn't there yet, so he went inside and waited. He wanted to apologize, to beg for her forgiveness, this was his chance to make everything right. He was going to make it up to her, she is his everything and he was going to show her everyday how much she means to him.. He smiled with the hope that he may be able to get a second chance when he heard her.........
"Hey baby, long time no see." She said and he cringed. He slowly turned around to see the blonde from that night smiling at him. "What are you doing here?!?!" He raised his voice at her. "Hey, you don't have to be snappy baby, I just wanted to say hi" she said as she put her hand on his arm. "Do not call me that!!" He said, anger laced In his tone, but before he could figure out what was going on he glanced out the window and saw her, y/n, staring at him and this woman touching him. "No......" he whispered as y/n took off running. He pulled his arm away from her and ran outside but y/n jumped in her car and took off.
"Fuck!!" He said standing there with his head down, trying to figure out what just happened. "Baby, aren't you gonna talk to me?" He heard her say. He whipped around to look at her "DO NOT CALL ME THAT!!!!" He yelled at her and she jumped back. "WHATEVER WE DID THAT NIGHT, WAS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!!!" He continued yelling "I LOST THE WOMAN I LOVE, WHO I CARE ABOUT MORE THEN ANYONE ELSE BECAUSE I MADE A STUPID MISTAKE AND SLEPT WITH YOU!!!" He yelled trying to catch his breath. She stared at him for a few minutes "we didn't sleep together, well we slept but that was it" she laughed. He looked at her in shock "what do you mean?" He asked. "Well, you were pretty hammered" she said with a slight laugh. "Well it wasn't for a lack of trying. I did want to get you in to bed, I won't lie, your petty hot" she said winking at him. He rolled his eyes "GET TO THE POINT!" He yelled. "Well, you wouldn't give me the time of day. And when I saw you heading to your room I followed you" she shrugged. He didn't even know what to say anymore. "When I got to your room you were passed out in bed, so I climbed in with you, but you were too drunk to even know I was there, and you kept calling me y/n, whoever that is, so I just went to sleep." She shrugged as if it was nothing.
Loki stood there in shock. " So, let me get this straight. You followed me and tried to take advantage of me, and then just went to sleep......" he asked trying to piece everything together. "What can I say, I have a hard time being told no" she said and winked at him. "YOU TOOK EVERYTHING FROM ME!!! YOU RUINED MY LIFE BECAUSE YOU DONT LIKE TO BE TOLD NO??!!!" He screamed at her. He got face to face with her "if I ever see or hear you again, I will gut you do you understand me!?" He whispered yelled at her. She just stood there wide eyed looking at him. "DO YOU UNDERSTAND!!!" He yelled again, she quickly nodded her head and ran the other way. "FUCK!!!" He yelled at the top if his lungs. "I need to talk to Thor" he said to himself and took off running back to the tower.......
If I missed tagging anyone I'm very sorry! Just let me know and I'll make sure to get you added 💚
