Ever seen someone lipsync an entire song underwater?
Edit: I should have added more context. This is Rose the Mermaid performing at Blue Zoo Aquariums.
The song is from Morgan Clae, who is just as beautifully intense out of the water as Rose is in it. She's performing a part for Epic: The Musical, which is about Odysseus.
Jorge Rivera-Harrans has been crowdsourcing the cast for a while now by asking them to sing along to the backing tracks. Wild way to audition; hundreds of people will see you regardless.
The song involving Athena was also pretty popular a while back, so it's been pretty fun.
no one gives rose tyler enough credit for being a proper fucking weirdo. obviously her and the doctor are completely deranged about each other from day 1, but i mean just as a person she’s a weirdo. she saw the sky was full of zeppelins and her instinct was “oh that’s beautiful 🥹” girl it’s BLIMPS ???
So Rose Noble chose herself the name Rose because she shared the metacrisis bound through her mom and even with no memories, the Doctor loves Rose Tyler so much, she unconsciously knew this name has an important meaning.
The presence Rose Tyler always has without being here.
i appreciate that rtd knows when to fudge things in order to make a good story. like he wanted to cast Yasmin Finney as Rose Noble, literally saying it's like she was sent down from above to play the role, but she was 18 when she was cast. so he aged up the character of Rose Noble a couple years to be 14 or 15, not caring that it didn't make sense with the timeline. it's okay if you have to jokingly explain things as a magic time cloud or whatever, the minutia doesn't matter if it means you can cast someone perfect and tell a good story. and Yaz Finney is really, really perfect for that role. it reminds me of that thing Rachel Talalay said about Heaven Sent where the crew pushed back on her about the lighting in a couple shots because it didn't really make sense, and she said "it doesn't matter where it comes from. it comes from 'it looks good'."
idk! i just really appreciate when creatives know when to let things be bullshit sometimes for the sake of good art.
Rose was THE icon of her time. Like yes girl. Pile on that mascara. Go fuck that alien man with two hearts. He wants to take you to Barcelona (the planet)! Wear your pretty outfits. Go solve some crime from hundreds of years ago that has some oddly supernatural causes. Go watch your home planet get destroyed billions of years in the future.
