Are you even in this fandom if you haven't written your favs on cactus juice?
“It’s worse than I thought,” said Korra, wiping her hands as she pushed aside the flap of the tent. Asami couldn’t quite read the expression on her face.
“Worse how?” asked Bolin. “How could anything possibly be worse?”
“I think he’s been poisoned.”
“Poisoned!” Asami gasped. She could see it though. Why bother hitting the leader of the United Forces with simple projectiles when it was easy enough for a skilled waterbender to heal puncture wounds? No—they’d need a far deeper hurt to disable someone of Iroh’s capabilities. The tactic had crippled Korra herself for years.
“Do you think he’ll make it?” asked Mako. “The United Forces has to have some sort of contingency plan for if the commander gets taken out.”
“Mako, that’s horrible!” Asami snapped. “It’s not about contingency plans. Korra, what can we do for General Iroh? Is it like the mercury? I know Toph Beifong didn’t want to be involved in the war, but if I can make it to the swamp I might be able to convince her to come.” She crossed her arms. “I won’t take no for an answer.”
Korra shook her head. “I don’t think it’s mercury,” she said. “When the Red Lotus gave me that poison I could hardly move. General Iroh only seems a bit tired. It’s his”—at this Korra dropped her voice—“it's his brain that’s gone.”
“His brain?” said Bolin, horrified. “What do you mean his brain is gone?”
Before Korra could answer a tall shirtless figure burst from the tent. His torso was covered in pink barely-healed wounds.
“Hi!” yelled the usually quiet General Iroh with a wave of both hands. Then his thick brows knit together. He stared hard at the ground. “Why are there so many little green ones?”
“You mean grass?” said Mako.
“No, soldiers,” Iroh answered. “I don’t recognize this song though. It must be a green soldier song. I bet they can teach me.” With that he sat down cross-legged in he grass. Mako and Korra exchanged a look.
“I think someone should stay with him,” said Korra.

avatar characters' relationships with their local library
i'm assuming u mean in a modern au bc the only library we see the gaang visit in the show is in the middle of a desert.. although i'm sure there do exist other libraries in the atla world, at the very least i'm sure that ba sing se university, agna qel'a and the fire nation palace have impressive collections, the beifong estate likely does too, and so did the air temples and the southern water tribe (before the fire nation either burned or stole their possessions). i also like to think that after the war, the fire nation repatriates whatever they took and still have from the people they colonized, so that aang and the swt especially can have a material link to their destroyed heritage. i see sokka being really passionate about building a library in the south pole, with an archive full of returned southern water tribe artifacts (i bet katara would be really excited to have authentic swt bending scrolls, since neither of the two waterbending masters she learned from were exactly, uh.... ideal). and i've talked before about how constructing air nomad museums and memorials to honor their memory and legacy and teach others about this (almost) lost culture would likely be really important to aang too.
but in the context of my modern au...
as a kid, aang doesn't really understand the point of libraries. sure, one hundred years ago, before the internet was invented, he can see how they would have been useful, but now we have smartphones and free pdfs online, so like....
katara can't believe aang's myopia! libraries aren't just about finding resources for stupid research projects or boring science books or whatever sokka likes to read, they're also the only socialist bulwark amidst the otherwise crushing capitalist hellscape that is america! we have to support our local libraries, even if reading is kinda boring and for nerds, aang! it's about the principle!!!!
sokka loves his library. he knows all the librarians by name, and has his own special table there that he sits at every time, and if anyone else gets there before him and sits in HIS SPOT, he glares daggers at them until they leave. he and yue used to go there all the time and just sit side by side reading their respective books, whispering jokes to each other until their giggles got too loud and they'd get shushed, which of course only made them laugh harder.
toph hates libraries. you're not allowed to talk, let alone yell, and audiobooks suck anyway. if she wanted someone to read aloud to her, she would just ask sokka. which is what she does :)
to be honest, zuko's ultimate goal in life has always been to be one of those cats who lives in a library. a library cat. unfortunately he was born a human, so this dream was dashed pretty early on, along with the rest of them. he used to go to the library with his mom a lot when he was little, but once ozai found him reading a baldwin novel and condemned the library as a "den of filth" that was "clearly infesting his head with wrong ideas" zuko stopped going. until he befriended sokka, and was invited to sit at his library table. (except he had to sit across from him, not next to him, because next to him is where yue would sit, and it's a whole thing. he doesn't mind, though, he likes watching sokka while he reads. he makes very dramatic reaction faces that prove extremely entertaining.)
sokka invited suki to go to the library with him once and she was like "why would i do that?" and he couldn't actually think of a good answer so he just dropped it. for what it's worth, this was also his response to going to the skatepark with her, but he somehow got dragged into going with her anyway (she looks hot on a skateboard though, so he doesn't really mind).
azula actually agrees with aang: libraries are for old people who don't know how to use the internet. also public places that anyone can enter are gross and dirty. that said, she knows that sokka loves the library, which means there must be something to this stupid library thing that she's just not getting. so she starts going to the library, to figure out what the secret is, and also sometimes just straight up spying on him (why is he hanging out with her brother? is it a ruse, a scheme, a nefarious plot? or is it charity? does he get volunteer points for this?). when zuko asks her why she all of a sudden wants to set foot in a "socialist den of filth" azula claims that she has a very big research project for school and going to the library gives her the peace and quiet needed to study without distractions. she gets absolutely zero work done, of course, but nevertheless refuses to admit that this was all a big waste of time.
ty lee went to the library exactly once at a kid, got told by some rude, uppity librarian who clearly had it out for her that she "wasn't allowed to do cartwheels in here" and promptly decided to never set foot in a library ever again.
mai likes libraries because it is the only space in the world that loud, obnoxious, rowdy boys will actually get shushed by middle aged women. she wishes her mom would take a lesson or two from a librarian someday.
for what it's worth, as he gets older, aang starts appreciating libraries more. he enjoys volunteering, and he especially finds reading to kids really fun. they love it when he does silly voices for different characters. he even finds a way to bring momo inside by claiming he's his "emotional support lemur." since momo is very well behaved, they allow it. all the kids are obsessed with aang. he goes from being a notorious library detractor to the King of their local library.

heyy! mom!toph givin me some thoughts here needin some fuel for some headcanons What did Lin and Suyin's nursery look like, and what was in it? What was the color scheme? Was it soft compared to the other rooms in her house? What are the gaang's thoughts on Toph having such a peaceful and gentle room for her baby?
Hi Anon, thanks for the ask! Happy to chat about Mama Toph :D
These are great questions! I’ve never been one to come up with all the details for the Beifong house, but now is as good as any time haha. So let’s go! :D
So with Toph, she seems like a person that prefers functionality over all else. She buys what she needs and isn’t one to overbuy or be excessive, if that makes sense. It makes me wonder what kind of house she’d get once she found out she was pregnant with Lin. I can see her just getting a two bedroom place, but then that would mean that Su and Lin would’ve shared a room down the line, and idk, Toph doesn’t seem like someone to move excessively. I’m thinking that because of that, perhaps she bought a slightly bigger house than what she needed at first, perhaps used one of the rooms as an office or a playroom for Linny, but then when Su entered the picture and the girls grew older, they had separate rooms to be in. I know it’s not really a question you have, but I’m just thinking out loud at this point haha!
For the nursery/baby room, I think it was simply decorated. If it was painted, it was done so thanks to her friends, because she didn’t care that much about the color scheme. I think in general, their home was green with earth tones (if the flashback in LOK season 3 tells us anything lol), and I can see that being the color of the baby’s room if Toph let it be. But, perhaps the nursery had a more minty green or pastel green look, something brighter for the room, but still green lol.
In the room, there would be the essentials. Crib, changing station, rocking chair for those late nights, maybe a basket of stuffed animals or toys. I feel like all of Toph’s friends would splurge on the stuffed animal part, and so Lin and Su were set with all their stuffies haha. I’m sure the Gaang also bought lots of toys and blocks for the babies, but Lin and Su found everyday items to be much more entertaining than some fancy baby walker that Sokka made them. Lin would definitely be one of those babies that plays with the wrapping paper more than the actual present LOL. Su might be a bit more materialistic, but not much.
One thing that could also be in the room is a spare bed. I can see Toph either having a cot available to sleep in the nursery just to be close to the baby at night, or she’d move the baby’s crib to her room for the same purpose. Perhaps she has both just in case haha!
I think the Gaang would love the cute decorations and everything in the nursery. Of course, Toph acts indifferent to the actual decorations and whatnot, but she likes it when her friends are happy and excited about things, and as long as they didn’t go overboard, she’s okay with them taking over with what the room should look like. What really makes the room peaceful and adorable is the fact that Toph spends a lot of her time in the room when Lin and Su are babies. She loves sitting in the rocking chair in the corner of the room and sit there with her sleeping baby on her chest. I bet she even puts a radio in the room and turns the volume low so that she can listen to bending matches or shows or music while the baby sleeps. When they’re a little older, Toph will sit on the ground with the baby and play with the blocks or the stuffed animals or will bend different shapes out of the earth. And if her girls are ever restless or sick at night, she pulls her bed close to the crib so she can monitor their breathing throughout the night. The Gaang may not see this each and everyday, but they know that Toph is the quiet and caring one. She doesn’t make a bug fuss about things, but when it comes down to it, she’s so so sweet with her girls and takes care of them the best way she knows how to.
But yeah! Not sure about specific decorations or things in the baby’s room outside of what I mentioned, but if there’s anything you think she’d have in the rooms, I’d love to hear about it!
That’s all the ideas I have for now, though. Thanks again for the ask, Anon! Always lovely to chat with ya, and if you’re ever in your mama Toph feels, let me know and I’m happy to chat about ideas/headcanons! Hope you have a great day!

Send me asks about ATLA, or anything, really! :D

Shit, I am now thinking about that throwaway line from The Serpent's Pass of Avatar: the Last Airbender when Toph told the ticket lady that Momo was her seeing-eye lemur. Which canonizes some form of guide-animals in atla's cultural history.
If I had to guess, I would bet there were a few historical cases of blind people training animals to perform tasks such as bringing things and stopping them from bumping into objects, maybe full-on guiding. I bet a writer would have been inspired by this and made it into some kind of mythology, poem, book, or play that made the idea popularized.
We never see another blind character in the show, and therefore never see any non-earth bending forms of orientation and mobility. So it's impossible to say if this is just a thing in atla's pop-culture that Toph expected anyone would just know, or if there are known contemporary people with service animals.
It puts the behavior of her parents into question, because it is easy to dismiss a lot of their coddling as ignorance. Lao Beifong seems like the kind of man to utilize his money and power if he thought it would make his daughter safer, but he also doesn't believe in the possibility of her being independent.
Though I doubt Toph would want a guide animal if one was offered.
One, she is fully capable of her own navigation. When she leaves with Aang, she does encounter situations in which she feels her disability (flying, in the air, on metal floors, wood, sand, water) but she does learn how to navigate those with the tools she has available.
Two, she has that mentality of "I pull my own weight" and not wanting help from anyone that she has to unlearn throughout the show.
Then there is the aspect of how much responsibility goes into taking care of a pet. There's a reason that blind children are expected to wait until they are teens or over the age of eighteen before they can apply to get a guide dog. By our modern standards, Toph would be too young to get a guide dog.
Anyway, those are my thoughts, all stemming from one throw-away line. Toss me a question about world-building if you have it.

Unlikely friends: Imagine being Toph’s cousin and befriending Azula, much to the gang’s horror and confusion as it starts to become something more...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note: The is loosely based on the comic the search which takes place after the tv show ended
Part two here
part three here
Your pov
You’d never been exposed to Azula much. Of course you knew who she was, everyone in the four nations did, but you’d never met her face to face. You only joined the gang after Zuko was firelord and so the first time you met her was when Zuko recruited her to help find his mother.
You were at the royal palace when Zuko revealed his sister would be coming on the trip with the rest of you. The others all gasped as a girl appeared beside Zuko but you just blinked confused. The girl in front of you was your age, average to small height and honestly just looked tired and worn down. You’d heard Azula had been locked up for a year due to her mental health difficulties and you couldn’t understand how the others didn’t see this all over her.
Zuko noticed you staring at Azula and realised you’d never met before. “Ow you don’t know each other....y/n this is Azula, Azula this is y/n Toph’s cousin”. “Hmmm a Beifong so not a peasant but earth kingdom scum is still earth kingdom scum” Azula replied glancing over you. “Azula!” Zuko snapped but you just shrugged “it’s fine, nice to meet you Azula”. Azula blinked at you confused at the notion any one of her brother’s friends would ever be pleased to see her. She stared at you before moving past you. “Sorry she’s....like that” Zuko commented and you smiled “no need to apologise, i’m sure after everything she’s been through this is hard for her, tracking your mother down...I bet she’s very nervous to be seeing her again, that’s probably why she’s lashing out”. Zuko frowned “I guess, I hadn’t thought of it that way...”.
Throughout the trip you had more patience with Azula than the others because you empathised with her. Yes, she was rude and snarky but you could tell she was only doing that to get a reaction out of the people she knew hated her. You’d grown up with difficult people who liked to annoy an reaction out of you (your cousin was Toph freaking Beifong) and so you knew they usually did it when they didn’t feel welcome or good about themselves. So you never responded to Azula’s quips about you or retaliated in any way and slowly she stopped. Soon you noticed you were the only one in the group who Azula didn’t rush to attack. She largely acted like you weren’t there but you took that as a good sign. If it was just the two of you she seemed more relaxed, less guarded and you were glad you had that effect on her. You wanted her to know not everyone hated her and apparently she did.
Obviously however Azula couldn’t just be alone with you the whole trip. She was surrounded by the gang who rightfully mistrusted and intensely disliked her. It was a stressful environment and you saw its growing mark on Azula each day...
You usually took the main night watch as you didn’t need as much sleep as the others and you’d noticed while everyone else slept soundly Azula would often jerk and mutter in her sleep endlessly. One night it was particularly bad. Azula curled up into herself and her mutterings sounded more like whimpers. You tried to ignore it and just focus on your book but after a while you couldn’t. So you approached her slowly and realised she must be having a particularly bad nightmare. Azula” you called trying to wake her up. When the girl didn’t respond you walked closer and knelt down beside her “Azula?” you called shaking her slightly. Azula jolted awake suddenly, sitting up so fast she almost headbutted you. She flinched away from you, fire at her fingertips before she blinked “ow it’s just you, what were you doing leaning over me?”. “You were having a nightmare I was trying to wake you” you replied and Azula glared “impossible nightmares are for weak people and children”. You laughed “no they’re not! Everyone gets nightmares, it’s not something you can control and it certainly doesn’t mean you’re weak”. Azula huffed sitting up and pulled her legs into her chest “well either way I wasn’t having one okay?”. You nodded your head raising your hands in surrender “fine”. Silence settled and you looked at her “well i’m going to go sit back by the fire, you can join me if you want. It’d be nice to have some company”. Azula huffed “no thank you” she said sarcastically and you shrugged “suit yourself but the invite is there”.
You sat down by the fire and returned to your book. You heard Azula shuffling around and after a few minutes saw her stand up and head towards you. You pretended not to notice as Azula got closer and only looked up when she reached the campfire. “Since you rudely woke me up and I can’t get back to sleep I’ve decided to sit here, there’s no point just laying on the floor”. You nodded your head “that makes sense” and smiled slightly. Azula looked down embarrassed but seemed grateful you didn’t push it. You sat in comfortable silence, only talking fleetingly and it was calm and neutral. Azula looked the most relaxed and normal you’d ever seen her and sure enough she soon fell back to sleep. You smiled and grabbed a blanket laying it over her. She may be difficult but difficult people were that way because they were hurting. You could sense that in Azula and didn’t want to cause her any more harm. You thought Azula could sense your intentions to her were different than the other’s and that’s why she behaved differently with you. Every time you interacted you saw more of Azula, the healthy happier Azula, but all the walls went back up as soon as the others were around. It upset you Azula didn’t feel comfortable with the others but at least feeling comfortable with one person was a start.
3 days later
You were finally only one day away from reaching the village Zuko’s mom was in and you all sat around discussing what to do next. Well apart from Azula, she was always made to stand away when you discussed plans, nobody forced her to but she felt unwelcomed so would usually go sulk out of earshot. It was decided you’d make the journey the next morning rather than arriving in the middle of the night. You nodded along with the plans before standing up and heading off in Azula’s direction “okay i’ll go let her know”. “Let who know?” Katara asked and you paused “Azula, she doesn’t know the plan”. “So?” Zuko asked and you hesitated “well shouldn’t we tell her....i mean she’s a part of the group now, she deserves to know what we’re dragging her into”. Aang nodded, Toph and Sokka shrugged but Katara and Zuko didn’t look convinced. “Fine i guess” Zuko shrugged and you nodded, going to get Azula from her stance by the woods. The gang all watching on confused.
The next day
You reached Ursa’s village the next day and found her home easily. She was thrilled to see her children again and the town threw a large party to celebrate the return of Ursa’s son the fire lord. You all attended and the whole gang looked so happy to finally be off the road and in a house, Zuko especially was in high spirits. He was beaming, a grin spread from ear to ear and you smiled to see he hadn’t left his mother’s side since he’d found her again. You saw Zuko’s family, his mom, new little sister Kiyi and stepdad all sat together and paused....they looked like a perfect happy family but someone was missing. You glanced around and saw Azula was outside, as far away from the happy occasion as she could get and was staring intensely at the surrounding scenery. You made your way outside and Azula jumped. “Only me” you said holding up a hand and Azula lowered her hands but her shoulders were still tensed “what do you want?”. “Nothing” you shrugged “just wanted to see if you were okay”. “Of course i’m okay” Azula snapped and you frowned. Over the period you’d spent travelling you’d seen Azula improve, she was less jumpy and agitated but the second you’d reached her mother’s town she was right back at square one. Her mother had been the reason for her initial mental breakdown and you were worried something like this could set her over the edge again. You knew Azula wasn’t one for small talk but wanted her to feel less alone so started talking to her. “You know I haven’t seen my family in 5 years?”. Azula didn’t attack you so you carried on. “They sent me to go live with Toph’s parents when I was 12 and I haven’t seen them since. To be honest it wasn’t a big move I was at Toph’s all the time but still to make it permanent... My father...he worked a lot so I never saw him even when I was home but as for my other family. My mom and I never saw eye to eye on anything, she hated all my decisions and honestly I think she was glad when I left...it gave her more time to focus on my brothers. Her favourites, she’s always preferred my brothers to me just because they’ll carry on the name or whatever”. You trailed off and Azula raised an eyebrow “are you actually trying to bond with me over mommy issues?”. You paused and rushed to explain you weren’t trying anything when you saw Azula had a slight smirk on her face and so you smiled. “Why not?” you asked “my point is, my parents were never there for me and I turned out fine! They only have as much power over you as you let them. Azula tutted “you should save the philosophy for Aang y/n”. You smiled “I probably should but all i’m saying is you’re not a product of what they’ve done to you unless you let yourself be, unless you hold onto that anger. I’ve forgiven my mother and father for how they treated me”. Azula spun on you and you jumped to see how angry she suddenly looked. “You expect me to believe after all she did to you, you forgave her? How stupid do you think I am?”. “I have” you said confused “I hold no anger towards my mother anymore”. “Well you should” Azula commented “she doesn’t deserve anything less”. You shrugged “maybe so but that anger was causing me way more harm than it was her”. Azula didn’t respond and you frowned. “I haven’t forgotten what she...what all my family did to me and I haven’t let them off for it, I set boundaries and refuse to let them treat me that way anymore...but I also don’t fixate over what happened, it happened, it was in the past and that’s where it should stay...that’s where I make it stay, I won’t let it take up any more of my time”. Silence settled and as time stretched on you stopped expecting a reply. That was fine with you, you just hoped any part of what you’d said had made Azula feel a little better. “I’m cold so i’m going to head back inside, you could come with me? I hate entering parties alone” you tried to joke but Azula didn’t glance at you. You shrugged and started back inside when Azula sighed and appeared beside you “come on then, if I must hold your hand with everything”. You grinned as you realised this was Azula’s way of saying she’d come back to the party with you. “But we’re getting food” Azula told you “i’m starving, that food Sokka hands out is awful”. You grinned as you walked in together “blubbered seal jerky, it is awful but it does sustain you”, Azula wrinkled her nose in disgust and you laughed. “I never figured you a picky eater”. “I’m not” Azula said defiantly “but i refuse to eat any animal’s blubber” she commented piling a plate with food. Not wanting to make her eat alone you copied her and filled a plate too. You found a table near the outskirts of the party and sat down together. Azula tucked into her food and you were surprised at her appetite though you knew you shouldn’t be. The girl was a machine of muscle and strength, of course she ate a lot. Still you watched impressed as Azula cleared her plate "you were hungry" you grinned and Azula smirked "why do you never believe me?". "I don’t know maybe your whole history with manipulation?". Azula’s smirk vanished and you worried you’d gone too far when she laughed. It was odd seeing her face contort into a laugh and her shoulders shake but a good weird. You liked seeing it and felt very proud you’d made the fearsome and dreadful Azula laugh. So proud you didn’t even notice that your and Azula’s table was getting attention.
Ursa’s POV
Ursa’s head shot up as she heard a vaguely familiar but sorely missed sound and her eyes landed on Azula almost instantly. Azula was laughing! She was smiling at a friend and appeared happy. Joy filled Ursa’s heart and she felt her eyes tear up to see her daughter happy. "Mother?" Zuko asked and she jumped. "Are you okay?" Zuko asked and she nodded "it’s just your sister...". "What has she done now?" Zuko snapped and Ursa shook her head "nothing! I just, i know i showed favourites and i always regretted leaving you both, i worried it would impact you both beyond repair especially Azula but then i saw her smiling...". Zuko followed his mothers gaze not believing her until he saw Azula beside you. His mother was right, Azula was actually smiling...well her form of a smile which was more of an upturned lip but still for Azula that was insane. "Who is her friend?" Ursa asked "she seems lovely". "Y/n" Zuko said confused "i didn’t even know they were friends" he was ashamed to admit. Ursa noticed and patted his back "i know things can’t have been easy and i’m sorry for my part in that but things can only get better now, for all of us" she said glancing back to Azula and Zuko nodded "apparently so".
Your POV
After the party was finished you were heading to your shared room with Toph when Katara appeared "y/n can we talk?". You shrugged and motioned for her to follow you into the room. She did and once inside you turned to her expectantly. "What are you doing are you insane!" she burst. You blinked "come again?". "Since when are you friends with Azula! Why would you want to be? What is wrong with you?". You took in the comments and breathed "erm...i guess we’ve become friends over the journey, i have spent the most time with her, i didn’t try to become friends with her i just talked to her and treated her like a human and it kind of just happened. As for what’s wrong with me....how long have you got?". Toph laughed and Katara glared "y/n this isn’t funny, don’t you remember all she’s done!". You rolled your eyes "ow yeah all water under the bridge...of course i haven’t forgotten what she's done but i have seen enough of her to know she’s just as broken as Zuko, she’s human Katara and she deserves the decency of being treated like one". Katara tutted "i don’t remember seeing an inch of humanity in her". "Well i’m sure if you start really looking at her you'll find it" you said sharply "now I’m going to bed so goodnight" and you turned away from the water bender letting her know this conversation was over.
Mai’s POV After Ursa had been found everyone returned to the fire nation to celebrate. Zuko was the happiest Mai had ever seen him but he wasn’t the only one who returned from the journey oddly happy. Thanks to her help Azula hadn’t been locked back up upon her return and she was freely roaming the palace. Old habits die hard and Mai found herself watching the girl who’d tormented her through her childhood and was surprised by what she saw. Azula had made a friend and one that actually seemed to genuinely like her judging by your smile. "So...Azula and y/n seem to get on" Mai commented and Zuko nodded amazed that this friendship had formed and that Azula was here at the party at all. He figured knowing their mother would be here she’d have run and hidden but here she was. "They seem quite close" Mai carried on "are they...is it more than a friendship?". Zuko paused "what?". Ty lee nodded "i was thinking the same thing, notice how Azula hardly looks away from her?". Mai nodded and Zuko frowned, clearly lost in the conversation. "I don’t know...i don’t think so" he babbled. Mai rolled her eyes at how clueless Zuko was "well is y/n or has y/n ever dated anyone to your knowledge". "No..." Zuko frowned. "They’re so dating" Ty lee grinned and Zuko frowned "are you sure? I mean my sister...date anyone?". Mai shook her head "you know she is a human being right Zuko? And an attractive one at that, i wouldn’t be surprised if she and y/n kindled something it's actually rather...sweet".
 Azula’s POV
Azula had only agreed to come to this party because you were going to be here and also because she’d been assured her mother wouldn’t try anything with her. Still Azula had been apprehensive to attend and the second you left her side her suspicions were confirmed. She was ambushed.  "Sooooo" Azula heard and turned to see an old friend? Ex friend? She still wasn’t sure but either way there was Ty lee grinning her. "Ty lee" she nodded at her curtly. "It’s good to see you" Ty lee smiled "i noticed you and y/n seem close". Azula raised an eyebrow, Ty lee was never good at being subtle and clearly meant something more with those words. "If you’re worried she’s beating you in the rankings of friendship you needn’t worry, you dropped right out of there the minute you betrayed me". Ty lee paused and Azula smirked "your face, you always were too easy to fool". Ty lee laughed nervously, Azula knew how to joke now?  "But seriously what’s up with you and y/n? Is it friends....is it more?". Azula paused "more?". "Well you guys just seemed very close" Ty lee shrugged "almost couple-y". Azula paused, this was a new perspective for her, she hadn’t even thought about her friendship with you or that it could be something more....now the idea was there she realised it wasn’t such a bad one.  She liked you, she thought you were nice to be around and funny. Not to mention you were beautiful and athletic. Azula thought it over while Ty lee almost burst. "So?" Ty lee finally asked and Azula paused. She didn’t want Ty lee to go around telling people before she even knew what she wanted so she shook her head "me and y/n are just friends". Ty lee looked disappointed "ow...well i’m still glad you’ve got such a good friend, you look a lot happier than i’ve ever seen you" Ty lee smiled and Azula realised she was. Even here at the palace where she had so many bad memories it wasn’t as bad anymore. Azula suspected a lot of that was because of you and felt a blush rise to her cheeks. How hadn’t she worked this out sooner?
A few days later
All good things had to come to an end. With the mission a success the avatar and all his friends were leaving the fire nation soon and Azula knew you were planning on leaving too. You were going to help the little earth bender with her school. Azula knew Toph was the person you cared most about in the world so of course you’d want to go with her but part of her wished you wouldn’t. She wished you had nothing to pull you away from her.
She’d heard from Zuko you were leaving soon and so she debated back and forth if she should come see you to say goodbye or just let you go. As the time trickled away and the day of your departure arrived she decided to just swallow her pride and come and find you. She found you in your room in the palace doing some very late packing. You had apparently just finished as she found you lining up your luggage for the trip. “Azula” you said happily spotting her and she couldn’t help but smile “hi y/n”. “Hello” you smiled “how are you?”. “I’m good, and you?”. “Great” you smiled “we’re all set to leave soon! I can’t wait to get home”. Azula nodded “I can imagine” and stared at the floor. “Is everything okay?” you asked and Azula tensed. “Everything’s fine I just wanted to say goodbye”  Azula shrugged meeting your eye and smiling slightly. She thought she’d been pretty convincing but apparently not.
Your POV
"Azula what’s wrong? I can tell somethings bothering you" you said frowning and came to stand closer to her. You could tell she was nervous, something you’d rarely seen on the firebender’s face. "I...i was just wondering when you were coming to the fire nation again?". You paused "well i’m not sure honestly, i guess whenever the gang comes again, why have you got a big festival coming up or something?". Azula shook her head "no we don’t...". She sounded disappointed and an idea formed in your head, did Azula not want you to go? "The gang might be too busy to just swing by but that doesn’t mean i can’t" you said testing the water and saw Azula’s eyes widen and her cheeks flush slightly. "I think that would be nice" she said looking down and you smiled softly. Azula wanted you around! "Yeah?" you asked and Azula nodded "i guess i’ve become...accustomed to your presence" she said.
You almost laughed that this was what Azula thought was an honest compliment. No, Azula could do better than that so you prompted her.
"Accustomed to my presence?" you asked raising an eyebrow and Azula searched for words before sighing. "I like being around you" she shrugged going red "so you coming back to the fire nation wouldn’t be a bad thing i guess". You grinned "you’d cope with that idea?". Azula nodded her head still blushing "i would". You laughed and couldn’t stop smiling at Azula’s blush. "Well in that case i’d be more than happy to have regular visits, not to mention you can come visit me and Toph at her school anytime you want". "I can?" Azula asked and you nodded "of course! You think i’d leave you all alone with these firebenders and no escape route". Azula smiled at you, a genuine happy smile and nodded her head "that’s...thank you, i’m sure i’ll be taking you up on that offer frequently". "As much as you want" you said taking her hand "i mean it Azula, even if it’s just for a few hours or a night, you’re always welcome with me". Azula stared at you and wondered again how she hadn’t realised she liked you before. It was so obvious to her now, she only hoped it wasn’t so obvious to you but judging by the fact she had a permanent blush this whole time she wasn’t too sure about that. Azula nodded "thank you y/n" and you smiled "no problem". You carried on looking at her before blushing at your close proximity and stepped away. "So i best be going but expect many letters". Azula chucked and you shrugged "what? I’m not kidding? I love writing letters, you will receive many from me, once a day if you’re lucky". Azula smiled "i promise to reply to every single one" and you grinned "you better". You started towards the door and stopped to look back at her. "I’ve really enjoyed our time together and I just wanted you to know...i think you’re pretty amazing”. Azula blushed "thank you....you’re also very good". You chuckled at her awkward reply and smiled "all i meant was, don’t let anyone tell you you’re not good enough, from where i’m standing...that’s not the case at all, in any way". Azula’s face turned an even deeper shade of red and you smiled. "Anyway i’ll go now, bye Azula". "Bye y/n" she managed and with a last smile you were gone. Azula immediately felt a pang of loneliness but then thought of what you’d do. She took a few deep breaths and repeated what you’d told her. She was good enough, she was more than good enough, she didn’t need to be insecure or cruel. She opened her eyes, let out a sigh and turned to her daily tasks. She'd see you again soon enough and only 13 hours until your promised daily letter, Azula could wait that long.
____
I absolutely love this idea of Azula finding someone she can be open and vulnerable with and might make this into a 3 part series??

angstpril day nineteen: “Don’t leave me.”
CW: bad parenting that’s for sure
fic under the cut
“Mom?” Lin called into the un-decorated apartment.
“Behind you,” Toph replied, setting down a heavy box on the floor.
“Oh,” Lin turned back to her mother, letting out a small sigh of relief.
“What, you didn’t think I’d left in the five seconds you were in the bathroom, did you?” Toph laughed and punched Lin hard enough to leave a bruise.
Lin rubbed her arm , looking at her feet in embarrassment. After a moment of awkward silence, she turned to the door.
“Is that the last of them?” she asked, her gaze flitting around the mounds of boxes.
“Yeah,” Toph said, walking back out the door before pausing in the hallway.
“You coming or not?” She asked, barely turning her head back towards Lin.
“Uh- uh, yeah,” Lin replied, following her mother out and locking the door behind her.
They walked in silence down to the first floor, Lin only looking up to wave slightly at the receptionist before they stepped outside. Lin walked around the moving truck they’d rented to bring all her stuff to the new apartment, climbing in the driver’s seat while Toph took the passenger’s.
“Bet you’re glad to finally be in your own place, eh, kid?” Toph asked as she propped her feet up on the dash.
“Mom, can you not? This is a rental,” Lin scolded, reaching over to slap her mother’s ankle lightly.
“Spirits, sorry for living,” Toph chuckled and took her feet down, crossing her legs and leaning forwards.
“You didn’t answer my question,” she said after a moment of silence, leaning back against the seat again.
“Yeah, yeah, I'm glad to have my own place,” Lin sighed, tapping her left foot anxiously as they waited at a red light.
They were about halfway back to the apartment Toph had raised her in when the conversation died, and they remained silent until they got back. Lin parked the truck in front of the apartment building, drumming her fingers on the steering wheel as she waited for Toph to get out so she could bring it back to the rental place.
“What are you waiting for?” Lin asked impatiently after a few minutes went by.
“What are you waiting for?” Toph replied, crossing her arms.
“Wh- I’m taking the truck back to the rental place, I was dropping you off because I thought you wouldn’t want to come,” Lin snapped angrily.
“Seriously? Spirits, kid, you really are oblivious,” Toph let out a laugh and reached for her door.
“We’re not done with the truck yet, now come help me bring down my stuff,” she called as she stepped from the truck, stepping the door behind her.
Lin sat, her eyes fixed on the steering wheel for a long moment before she got out of the truck. She made her way up to the third floor apartment she’d shared with her mother and sister until the year before when Su had moved out, and had stayed in with just Toph until now. The walls were empty, the furniture and all the other things Lin hadn’t taken boxed up and ready to go. Lin stood in the doorway in shock, staring at her mother who was lifting boxes on small platforms of rock that floated after her.
“What- what are you doing?” her voice suddenly became quiet, her confident mask slipping.
“I’m moving out,” Toph said bluntly, pushing past Lin through the door and bringing the boxes downstairs behind her.
Lin took a few steps into the apartment, opening one of the boxes. Inside was an assortment of small items, but one caught Lin’s eye. She reached into the box and pulled out the small metal statue Toph had made many years ago. It was of the three of them, baby Su sitting on Toph’s shoulders while little Lin stood beside her, holding her hand tightly. Her eyes started to water as she looked at the statue, a single tear falling before she shoved it back in the box and forced herself to pull it together. She heard Toph walking down the hall and spun to face her when she stopped at the door.
“You didn’t think I’d stay here, did you? Alone?” Toph scoffed and took a step towards Lin.
“Where are you moving?” Lin narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms.
“I’m dropping my stuff off at your grandparents and then going wherever I feel like going,” Toph replied, walking past Lin and picking up a few more boxes with her earth slabs.
“You can’t just- I’ll be completely alone,” Lin stuttered before looking up at her mother.
“You’ll be fine,” Toph started towards the door again, boxes following her closely.
“No,” Lin cried, stomping her foot and bringing all of the boxes back to the floor.
“Are you really going to have a tantrum right now?” Toph turned back to Lin and leaned against the doorframe.
“You’re nearly twenty-three, you’re taking over as Chief of Police for me, and you’re throwing a tantrum because I’m moving,” Toph shook her head and picked up the boxes again.
“Pretty pathetic if you ask me,” she muttered as she walked down the hall, leaving Lin alone again.
“It’s fine,” Lin whispered to herself, picking up a few boxes and moving down the hall.
It’s fine, she repeated in her head, over and over again as she helped Toph move the last of her things into the truck. Lin let out a sigh of relief when a man came up to them, confirming to Toph that he was the driver she’d hired to take her to the Beifong residence in Gaoling. Before Toph got in the truck with him to leave, though, she pulled her aside.
“Don’t go,” Lin pleaded quietly.
“Don’t leave me,” she continued, her eyes oddly dry despite the panic that was building in her chest.
“I can’t- I still need you. Please,” she stopped for a moment, searching her mother’s face for any hint of emotion.
“Please Mama,” she ended in a whisper.
“You sound like a baby,” Toph scoffed, turning around halfway.
“You’ll be fine,” she paused before adding, “Chief.”
Lin watched as her mother walked up to and got in the truck, staring until the truck was out of sight. She blinked a few times and looked down at her feet, furrowing her eyebrows before dragging herself to her parked satomobile. She got in, her movements delayed as she sat unmoving for a short while before starting the sato up and driving to her new apartment. She parked in the underground garage in a haze, the drive there taking both too long and not long enough. When she got up to the first floor, she was so out of it that she didn’t even acknowledge the receptionist, simply walking to the stairwell and starting the treck up.
She barely noticed as she unlocked her apartment door and stepped inside, locking it again behind her and turning to face the piles of boxes. It was only then that she realized what had just happened.
She left.
I’m alone.
Completely and utterly alone.
A loud sob escaped her throat and she sank to the ground against the front door. She pulled her knees to her chest and let her head fall back against the door, not trying to hold back her tears anymore.
“Mama,” she cried as the apartment grew colder and colder, night taking hold of the city.
She fell asleep there, her fear and loneliness giving way too exhaustion before long. Her body would yell at her for it the next day, but even if she’d tried she wouldn’t have been able to move herself to her unmade bed that night.

Note
"a dark-skinned character(korra) is punished for her attitude/personality and is tortured to change her personality to a more submissive one, but when a light-skinned character(kuvira) has the same attitude/personality, the narrative does not punish her and forgive her because she had a difficult childhood :(. that character(kuvira) goes to prison for the crime she did but when she gets out of prison, she still has the same bad Attitude she had before(she is still the same arrogant bi*ch who thinks she knows better than anyone else).
The light-skinned character(kuvira) is 'punished" for being a criminal, not for her personality as they did with the dark-skinned character(korra). The lightskinned character's mistake is to be a criminal, the darkskinned character's mistake is to be the way she is, have a strong and confident personality."
" a dark skinned character (Korra)is punished for her personality and is tortured to change her personality to a more submissive one" Did you even watched the show? First of all, the ONLY time Korra was punished for her personality (not actually quite that because fear ain't one but there's a lil of arrogance there so) was in The Voice in The Night, book 1 episode 4.
Second of, Korra isn't submissive at all. Book 1 she wasn't, and at the very end of book 4, she also wasn't. I think you are confusing the terms. Book 1 Korra was impulsive, childish, naive and immature and this not the same thing as being dominant. Book 4 Korra was more thoughtful, more patient, more mature, more calm and if you think this makes someone submissive, you know nothing about this dominant and submissive shit. I'm sorry but you don't. Thinking about your actions before making them, doesn't make a person submissive wtf dude
And the "funny" is that if B4 Korra was the same as B1 Korra, y'all would complain that they denied her a proper character development and chooses to treat her as stupid and violent or wherever just because she is dark skinned. I bet a ear on that
Kuvira NEVER had he same attitude/ personality was Korra. Korra never put civilians life's in danger like that, Korra cares about people, Korra wanted to serve people and not only her personal goals, Korra never used people like Kuvira did with Baatar Jr., Saying that just because the writers spend the whole B4 trying to shove that in your throat doesn't make it true. I saw the show so many fucking times, i know those character better than I know some people in my own family so yes, i think i can say for sure that Kuvira was never like Korra. If you and the writers said that just because they were both stubborn and had strong will, you can also say Toph Beifong was just like Kuvira, Zuko was just like Kuvira. Let's just say it takes more than just 2 personality traits to make a actual good parallel. Just look at Zuko and Aang, Katara and Azula, Amon and Korra, now that was some fucking great well thought mirrors/parallels
Kuvira only had that terrible and unnecessary "redemption" because of the fandom, the fandom wanted that so the give it. And also, a little of immaturity of the writers to do so, especially in the way they did. That's why sometimes creators can't give the fans what they want. And Kuvira still is praised af for lots in the fandom. So no, i don't think this have something to do with her skin tone, they just wanted to make a "Zuko" of her, giving her redemption and all but is was the biggest mistake on tlok and that pisses me off like hell.
Zuko (light skinned character) also was punished like hell even before the story of the show start, physically and emotionally. Tenzin got beat up and almost died because of it, Azula was manipulated and emotionally abused by her father since ever but NOBODY talks about that because in those cases is good character development, character arc, history arc, important to the plot
But when it is with Korra some people wished her to had a stupid plot armor and ruined everything for her just because she is dark skinned.
And, like i said, i watch those show a lot of times, i now know more about them than what I do with my life and i know more those characters that some people in my life. I've been studying the show and it's character for 7years now so i know all the flaws as well. But saying that Korra only suffer because of her color is stupid, I'm sorry but it is. If the creators who - for sure aren't perfect - was those racists some of y'all call them, the protagonist wouldn't even be a dark skinned character. Katara and Sokka also wouldn't have some of the best developments in tla(Katara even had a better development than the protagonist) and the importance they had on the story.
I'm sorry is just that I'm sick of reading this. It ain't true.
I don't know you, and I'm having a shitty day so i may being throwing that on you ~ sorry for that~ but wanting a dark skinned character, a woman or lgbt characters to have plot armor just because of their color, sexuality or gender, ain't being woke. Especially when you love when thosees type of "suffering that led to awesome good character development" is destined to white, male and straight characters. I'm not saying is you specifically but I've seen a lot, a lot of people with your same argument being like that. And I'm just tired

Being Toph’s non-bending older brother and falling for Sokka
This prompt came from @bigfan-fanfic‘s headcanon ideas here. Do yourself a favour and go follow him right now!!!!!!
Masterlist
Tumblr media
You’re a few years older than Toph and the heir to the Beifong family.
Your parents are extremely overprotective of Toph, so for many years, people think you’re the only child.
You used to be overprotective as well, but Toph’s punches really hurt and you got the message after a while.
When Toph discovers she can earthbend, you’re the only person she tells.
You find out about her fighting in the underground tournaments and promise to keep it secret...as long as you can come along too.
You act as her Manager (not that she really needs one) and cheer for her during every bout. You’re so proud of your sister and how much she’s accomplished despite her age.
You know that picture of Will Smith showing off his family? That’s you with Toph.
When Toph runs away with the gaang, you’re right behind her.
It’s not just to keep an eye out for her, it’s also because you know you’re parents are going to be unbearable about protecting Toph when she doesn’t really need it.
Plus you’re not staying at home while your little sister is helping the Avatar and travelling the world.
You’ll think of an explanation to tell your parents later, after you save the world.
Aang is ridiculously easy to get along with.
Katara’s strong, but you snicker whenever her and Toph start bickering. They’re very different people after all.
But you get along with Sokka the best. You’re the same age and you share a similar sense of humour.
Plus you’re both non-benders currently surrounded by talented benders, so you’ve got another thing in common.
Both of you spar together every chance you get.
You were insistent on teaching him how to use your preferred weapon because it could come in handy one day.
He let you borrow his boomerang once and it ended with you hitting yourself in the face.
You don’t know at the time, but you’re responsible for Sokka’s bisexual awakening.
The first time Sokka sees you smile, he can’t stop looking at you.
The first time he makes you laugh, it’s at one of his jokes. He trips over his own feet and nearly falls over, but you reach out to catch him.
Toph figures out that Sokka likes you really quickly, but she decides not to say anything because she wants to see how long it’ll take for you to realise.
That doesn’t stop her from telling Aang and Katara though. There may or may not be a bet on when you’ll find out.
Your feelings for Sokka slowly change over time and you realise he’s become more than a friend to you is after the failed Invasion of the Fire Nation.
Sokka’s upset about his plan failing and about his father being captured. You’re listening to him as he talks and the moment he falls silent, you reach out and hug him.
You have no words to make him feel better, but a hug might help him, right?
His arms circle you as his body sinks into you and he buries his head in the crook of your neck. The feeling of his breath touching your neck makes goosebumps appear on your skin.
Neither of you talk for a long time as you sit in silence together.
A little voice in your head tells you what you already know, that you like Sokka. You like him so much more than you would a friend. There’s nothing earth shattering about it, no panic or fear; only acceptance.
It feels inevitable, for lack of a better word.
But it’s not the best time for revelations like this.
There’s still a world to save and an Avatar you have to help.
That won’t stop you from trying to flirt with him any chance you get, now that you’ve had this revelation.

The Righteous Fury of a Sibling Scorned
Pairing: Kya/Lin
Summary: She doesn’t know why her brother having a crush on her friend makes her so furious she wants to scream. She has no clue why her brother talking to Lin so much makes her want to throttle him. All she knows is that she’s angry. She’s so, so angry. With Tenzin, with herself, with Lin, with everyone. And she can only handle so much more of this before she explodes.
ao3
When Tenzin started staring at Lin all the time, Kya got irritated. She let it go though, he’s her baby brother after all, everything he does irritates her and she doesn’t even know why exactly this does. When he starts following them around, she gets frustrated. But again, little brothers. What can you do? She lets it go. Or, she tries. But then he starts...pushing. He inserts himself between Kya and Lin and talks to Lin constantly, so much that Kya has barely said more than hello to her best friend in weeks. After the second week, Kya is angry. She doesn’t know why, but she is. And she knows that everyone has noticed. Everyone, that is, except for Tenzin. He’s too busy following Lin around like a lovesick puppy. Her dad is putting emphasis on patience and her mom is regularly mentioning the strength of a bond between siblings and Kya is ready to scream.
At the rate Tenzin is going, she’s going to use that ‘strong sibling bond’ to choke him. Bumi actually has a bet going with Suyin about how long that will take. She overheard them making it and she’s going to wait until they’ve both lost just to spite them. She just needs to make it a few more days. She can do it. And then the little twerp is hers. At least until mom and dad pull her off. She needs those few days to pass quickly. She can tell Lin has noticed and is close to questioning her and Kya just, doesn’t have any answers really.
She doesn’t know why her brother having a crush on her friend makes her so furious she wants to scream. She has no clue why her brother talking to Lin so much makes her want to throttle him. All she knows is that she’s angry. She’s so, so angry. With Tenzin, with herself, with Lin, with everyone. And she can only handle so much more of this before she explodes.
“Hey, Kya.”
“Hi, Lin! I thought we could go feed the turtleducks today.”
Lin nods, “Yeah, sure. Just let me say hi to your parents first. My mom wanted me to tell them something.”
“Sure thing. I’ll grab some food for the turtle ducks and some snacks for us. Mom and dad are out in the garden.”
Kya gets two minutes of peacefully putting food into a bag before her brothers show up.
“Hey, Kya I saw Lin was here. Are you guys going somewhere?”
“Yes, Bumi. We’re going to the park. I told you earlier that’s what we would probably be doing today. What do you want?”
“Oh, well, I don’t want anything. Baby brother here had a question and was too scared to come ask alone.”
Kya scowls and turns to Tenzin, “What?”
He fidgets and glances at Bumi before speaking, “Um, I was just wondering if I could come with yo-”
“No.”
“What? Why not?”
“Because I said no, Tenzin. Hang out with Bumi and Suyin. Or Izumi, she’s here visiting with her dad isn’t she?”
She signs when Tenzin frowns and crosses his arms. He’s going to dig his heels in apparently.
“Tenzin. If you follow us to the park, and I am not exaggerating here, it will take them hours to get you out of that pond. And by the time you get home, Oogi will be purple.”
“Wh-wha- Why?!”
“Maybe because we don’t want my annoying little brother following us around every time we hang out.”
“I’m not annoyi-“
“Yes. You are. Now, I have to go. Leave me alone.”
Kya walks past Tenzin and Bumi with the bag of food thrown over her shoulder. When she steps into the hallway she sees Lin standing just outside the door.
“My mom really needs to stop asking me to tell your parents things. I did not need to know what this one meant, and yet they told me.”
“Again?”
“Yeah, it's getting pretty weird.”
Kya links her arm with Lin’s while they walk, “Well, I don’t want any details. Not after last time.”
“I don’t blame you. Now, what did Tenzin do to piss you off?”
“What?”
“It seems pretty malicious to dye Oogi purple just to keep him from coming to the park with us.”
Kya blushes and shrugs, “He’s always following us around now, I’m a little annoyed, I guess. Who wants their little brother to go everywhere with them?”
When Lin tugs her over to stand under a tree out of the way, Kya doesn’t think much of it. Lin doesn’t like being stared at. Which happens a lot when you’re the daughter of Toph Beifong or Avatar Aang and Master Katara. When Lin turns to face her and stands closer than usual, Kya takes notice. It takes everything in her not to blush bright red. She doesn’t understand why but her heart is racing.
“It's just a harmless crush, he’ll probably be over it in a month or two.”
Kya crosses her arms and glares, not pouts thank you very much Bumi, “I know that. Why would I care if Tenzin has a crush on you?”
“I don’t know,” Oh, raising that eyebrow is just not fair Lin, “You tell me.”
“I don’t.”
“You very clearly do, Kya.”
“So you’re a mind reader now?”
Lin sighs, “I wish I were, then we wouldn’t need to have this conversation.”
“If I’m too much trouble for you, feel free to leave.”
She’s about to start crying and she doesn’t even know why. Spirits, Lin is never going to want to hang out with her again.
“Kya, no. You’re not too much trouble. I just want to understand why you’ve been so upset recently. Talk to me please?”
Kya groans and hides her face in her hands, “I don’t know, Lin! If I knew why I wanted to murder Tenzin every time he so much as looked at you, it wouldn’t be a problem. Bumi’s crush on Izumi never made me this upset. I thought it was cute. They make a great couple. Why is this different? I don’t get it.“
When Lin pulls her hands away from her face Kya blinks and looks up at her, “What are-“
Kya gasps when Lin pulls her forward into a short kiss. She spends the first thirty seconds after gaping at Lin. She’s breathless when she says, “Do that again please.”
Lin grins and kisses her cheek, “Maybe later. When we’re not surrounded by strangers.”
Kya nods and smiles, “So. I guess that would be why.”
“I thought it might be. I wasn’t sure if I should let you figure it out on your own but, it didn’t seem like that was going to happen.”
“Your mom isn’t going to threaten to kill me if I hurt you right? Because she’s kind of scary.”
“My mother will probably high five you and tell me not to fuck it up. She’s a loving mom like that. If anyone is going to get a shovel talk here, it’s me. And your mom knows bloodbending.”
“What, dad being the avatar isn’t scary enough?”
Lin snorts and shakes her head, “When he’s standing next to your mother? Not a chance. Aang is like an overexcited polar bear dog. If Katara came after me, no one would find the body.”

Kyalin Week Day 6
Prompt Chosen- Modern AU
Now, I know people are tired of hearing about the pandemic, however when I saw Modern Au as an option on there I just had to write Kyalin during quarantine... it was too tempting.
"We have to quarantine at home for two weeks, its mandatory." Kya explained.
"I want even at the hospital, how could I have gotten it?"
"Because I was at the hospital, I could have it, and spread it to you." Lin crossed her arms, releasing a dramatic groan.
"Come on Lin, I know it's not ideal, and I'm sorry, but look on the bright side. We get two weeks off, just the two of us. We could, you know, try that thing you mentioned the other night."
"That was you who mentioned that."
"Well you didn't shoot it down, so its both our ideas now." Lin sighed, pursing her lips and Kya wrapped her in a hug.
"Alright, but as soon as my two weeks are up I'm going back to work."
"Of course." Kya kissed her on the cheek, watching as Lin disappeared into the bedroom. Her eyes panned the apartment, it looked like it could use a clean, so she got to work.
"What are we going to do for food?" Lin asked, staring into the empty fridge.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, Kya, we have no food in here." Kya came up behind her, placing her chin in the nook of her neck, frowning at the sight of the fridge light that illuminated nothing but the shelves.
"We eat out too much. I can call Tenzin maybe he can bring us some supplies."
"No, Tenznin will bring us a very selective diet and If I'm going to be in here for two weeks then I need real food. You know Kya, these abs don't feed themselves." Kya raised an eyebrow, moments away from kissing Lin, when the earthbender pulled out her phone.
"Mako? Okay... okay... look, I'm out for two weeks. Try not to start a gang war while I'm gone. I need you to do something for me."
"Tell him to get KitKat!" Kya said, Lin raised a finger, telling Mako to get a pen and paper.
"You ready?" Lin asked him, and began to fill him in on their grocery desires.
"Pretzels too! I could use pretzels right about now..." Lin added pretzels to list of demands. Finally when they were satisfied with the list, they hung up the phone.
"He says he'll be around in an hour. He went to get Asami because he's never gotten groceries on this scale before."
"Smart."  Kya smiled up at Lin, who was checking her phone. "So..." Kya said, drumming her fingers on the counter, "what should we do for an hour?" Lin looked up, putting her phone face down on the counter.
"Well you're practically undressing me with your eyes."
"Am not!"
"Oh yeah?. What color bra do I have.on today?" Kya pursed her lips, thinking.
"White."
"Wrong, black."
"What? No.I remember this morning you-" she stopped as Lin pulled open her flannel, revealing the black bra she was indeed wearing.
"You tricked me." Lin smirked, walking around the counter and planting a kiss on Kya's lips.
"I have some paperwork to get done, call me when Mako gets here." Lin smirked as she walked off, and Kya glared at her, running her tongue over her teeth. Thinking about how there's no one else she'd rather be quarantined with.
Mako knocked, letting them know their things were outside their door, as per standard, they waited until the two kids had left before picking up their things, Lin put four bags on her arms, gesturing for Kya to take the remaining two. She put the stuff on the counter, and watched as Kya took the time to wipe everything with Lysol.
"Kya," Lin said seriously, "are you worried at all? About this whole thing?"
"Like being quarantined? No not all."
"No, not that, I mean more like the pandemic in general."
"Oh. I haven't really thought about it, but yeah, I guess I am. I'm worried about mom, I know she's safe as she could be in the south pole, but this isn't how I want her to go. Are you worried about Toph?"
"Are you kidding me? The woman couldn't die if she tried!" They laughed, and Lin put her hands behind her, gripping the edge of the counter. "In all serious, I'm more worried about the people, the news says the unemployment rate has sky rocketed in the last few days."
"Lin?" Kya asked, putting the wipes down. "We're good right? Financially?"
"Oh dear, of course. I've been working for thirty years, saved up as much as I could not to mention my share of the Beifong fortune... its not me I worry about."
"Mako?"
"Yeah."
"He'll be alright, we won't let anything happen to him. I bet Asami and Korra already have a plan for him that he's completely unaware of in case things go south." Lin smiled and Kya lifted her lips to Lin's scarred cheek.
"Come on," she said, "help me put this stuff away."
The two of them cooked together for supper, and Lin almost forgot what it was like to be home for supper, let alone to cook it.
"Okay I think I got it," Kya said, lifting the spoon to her mouth.
"Kya, that's the stirring spoon you can't lick it and put back."
"Oh yeah? Watch me." Kya drew her tongue over the spoon, maintaining eye contact with Lin and causing her to blush. Lin gulped, breaking the eye contact and Kya returned the spoon to the pot, stirring the sauce again. Lin went for the sink, grabbing Kya's butter as she went past.
"Lin!" She yelped, swatting her girlfriend playfully on the shoulder.
"I didn't do anything!"
"Yeah right!"
"I swear!" Kya narrowed her eyes, seeing through Lin's weak attempt to hide a smile.  Lin set the salad and the bread on the table, ordering the plates and glasses across form each other, lighting a candle in the center.
"Whats going on?" Kya asked, looking at Lin's arrangement.
"I figure, since we're here, I might as well make up for all the date nights I've had to reschedule, or cancel, and never got around to it." Kya looked at her thoughtfully, putting her pot on the table.
"You're telling me I've been on a date this whole time and didn't know?"
"Yep. Surprise," Kya stifled a laugh and sat across from Lin, staring at the other girl lovingly.
"Well, you should know I don't usually go home with someone on the first date."
"Well good thing its not the first date then." Kya raised her eyebrows, her eyes still locked with Lin as she brought a piece of food to her mouth. Lin caught Kya up on everything in her life, the abnormally quiet Pice Chief talked on and on, and Kya listened, absorbing every word of it.
"Kya?"
"Hmm?"
"Are you finished?"
"Oh, yeah,' she said, sitting up. Lin took her plate, and Kya admired her from behind.
"Lin," she said, "put the dishes down."
"What?"
"We'll do them tomorrow. Please, just kiss me already."
"What if you have Covid?" Kya chuckled.
"Then we'll both have it anyway." She pushed herself off her chair, meeting Lin halfway across the kitchen, their lips meeting in an epic dance. Kya jumped, wrapping her legs around Lin's waist and the metalbender's hands found places underneath Kya's thighs to hold her. Lin set her on the kitchen counter, pushing her abdomen in between Kya's legs.
"Been a while since we've done this," Lin admitted between breaths.
"We haven't had time."
"Well, now we have two weeks to make up for it." Kya smiled as Lin's lips clashed with hers again.
"I love you," Kya whispered.
"I love you too."
1 week of quarantine
"Wait so what happened in the last movie?" Kya asked, just to get a rise out of Lin.
"Kya, were you even paying attention? Qui Gon and Obi-wan, master and Padwan head to the desolate planet of Tattooine where they-"
"Lin, I'm kidding." Lin rolled her eyes and Kya cuddle in close, reaching her arm over into the popcorn bowl on Lin's lap.
"Don't do that again or I'll spoil it for you." Kya laughed, pressing a light kiss on Lin's cheek. When Kya had mentioned she'd never seen a Star Wars movie, Lin had organized a rather professional viewing of them all, in chronological order. Kya would much rather be doing something else, but she could see how excited Lin was to watch them with her, so she did. All the good (and bad) the movied had to offer.
"Whos that?"
"Anakin."
"The little boy?"
"Yeah, there's a time gap."
"Wow, he's so grown up."
"Just you wait," Lin said, placing a fistful of popcorn in her mouth. Befoee the movie could get any further, the phone rang, and Lin got up to answer it, letting the movie play for Kya.
"Hello? Pema is that you? Hmm? No we are just- really? Is everyone okay?" Kya sat up, looking over at her girlfriend with concern.
"Theres a breakout at the air temple," Lin whispered to Kya.
Oh no, poor Pema. I hope Rohan is okay.
"Is Tenzin there? Okay, well, try to stay calm, please Pema! Where's Jinora? Put her on the phone." Lin tapped the counter, waiting for the eldest of the Airbender kids to come to the phone.
"Jinora? Is everyone okay? Ikki has it? You need to keep her away from the others, don't let Rohan out of his room, and please, try to keep you're mother calm until your father gets home tomorrow. Yes... I love you too Jinora, good bye, as soon as we can leave we'll come down there." Lin put her phone on the counter with a sigh, and Kya ran up to her.
"We have to go, I can help them!" Kya pleaded.
"No, dear, we can't help them. If we go there we are just exposing ourselves to it, and I don't like to admit but we aren't exactly spring pig-chickens anymore Kya." Kya frowned, crossing her arms.
"Lin, they are our family."
"I know Kya, but we can help them by staying here, and staying healthy. Don't forget we can be incarcerated for leaving." Kya growled, scrunched her nose and Lin reached her hand out on the counter.
"One more week to go, we got this. Remember what you told me, try to enjoy it."
"Pretty sure I said we could try that technique from that movie where I use waterbending to-"
"Well I paraphrased it." Kya's lips formed a smile, and her heart melted at the soft look Lin was giving her.
"Come on," she said, "let's watch this movie." Lin nodded and the two of them returned to the sofa, Kya resting her head on Lin's lap, her hair being tousled by the police chief. Every so often she'd look up at Lin, who was absolutely enticed by the movie, even though she said it was 'the worst one.' She fell asleep before the end, and Lin let Kya stay there long into the night, moving her only once her own bladder couldn't take it any longer, placing her in their bed. Kya groaned softly, rolling over and pulling all the blankets for herself. Lin crawled in behind her, still holding her in her arms.
3 Days until the end of quarantine.
"Kya, I know you've lost all sense of time, but you need to put clothes on."
"Whats the point? No one comes, no one goes. No one sees me. No one knows..."
"If you start speaking in poetry again I'm locking you in the bathroom."
"Go ahead, at least there I hear the voices from the drain." Kya groaned, flopping onto the couch face first. Lin sighed.
"Do you.... need to talk?" Lin almost choked on the words, but it got Kya's attention and she sat upright.
"I've always been an extrovert Lin. Im a people person and now that the people in my life have been removed... I'm just a person." Lin pursed her lips, she hadn't thought about it like that before. She had always been reserved, truthfully quarantine had been easy for her, she did daily workouts, reading... other stuff with Kya. But Kya couldn't be on her phone for more than half an hour without needing a change of space.
"I don't know how to help you with that..." Lin started, "but I can... give you a hug?" Kya smiled sadly and walked up to Lin, forgetting her nudity and hugging her.
"Lets go on the porch for a bit," Kya said, "I need some air."
"You're going to have to put some clothes on then, I don't think the neighbors will appreciate your tits being out the same way I do." Kya laughed, looking down at her torso.
"Oh they would. But fine. I'll put on some clothes, but you better be the one taking them off later."
"I wouldn't have it any other way." Kya grinned, satisfied with that, before she could dissappear into the bathroom however, Lin called to her.
"Oh, Kya!"
"Yes sweetheart?"
"Maybe we can try that thing you mentioned last week." Kyas eyes went wide, and Lin smirked.
"This is why, I love you Lin Beifong."
"I love you too. Now go get dressed, we're going to miss the warmest part of the day." Kya sped off, and Lin watched her go, the same gentle smile pulling at the corners of her lips. I could be quarantined with her for the rest of my life, and I'd never get bored. When Kya returned, she skipped onto the porch, and Lin used her bending to extend the available area for the moment. Kya sat at the edge of the concrete, letting her feet hang over the edge, humming a gentle tune. Lin sat next to her, her lips pursed in indecision.
"Kya," she said, drawing the waterbenders crystal blue eyes to her. "When this is over, we should get married." Kyas eyes widened, and for a minute Lin thought she scared her, but then she was pulled into the most passionate kiss of the their relationship, nearly sending both of them to the ground below.

katara loves meeting the parents. she tries never to break up with a guy until after she’s had at least one dinner with his family. that way, then, once they have broken up, if they’re still on good terms afterwards and happen to run into each other, he’ll be like “my family keeps asking about you” and katara will be like [smiles charmingly] “oh?” and he’s like “yeah i guess you made a really great impression on them” and katara, who knows full well that adults love her due to how polite & smart & gracious & cute she is, is like [twirls hair] “omg really? that makes me so happy <3” and, well. it does. it really, really does.
#katara#sokka knows exactly what she's doing and thinks she's sick for it#but she can't help that she loves being validated by grown ups!!!!!#i mean. no judgment from me#when i was in elementary school i'd talk to certain kids specifically because otherwise it would be weird that i was friends#with their parents but not them#i give good parent.mp3 rights!#i love how a running thread throughout the show is simply how much parents adore katara#or authority figures in general tbh#shes just so good at being polite to adults#shes even nice to pakku??? which like. why????#meanwhile sokka slaps a general in the face for being mildly incompetent#kanna enabled her too much and now she has an addiction to being adored by parental figures#she bets toph that she can get the beifongs to her like her and toph is like 'I WILL NOT BE TAKING THAT BET THANKS'#michi & ukano DO like her actually. bc she is so good with tom tom#even tho they are still of the belief that she kidnapped him in the first place#whos seriously gonna believe that THE LEMUR DID IT#but honestly it doesnt matter bc she agrees to babysit for free!#sokka's like 'wait are u srs mai's extremely wealthy parents offered to pay u and u declined??'#and katara's like 'well i dont want their fire nation blood money' and sokkas like 'WHY THE FUCK NOT???????????'#also i was thinking of haru's parents specifically. they are always asking about her. esp his dad. he wants katara to date his son so bad...#also yes note that i said when katara dumps a guy#never the reverse#simply would not happen#katara got dumped ONCE#it was by a hot local psychic who broke up w her by reading her palm saying he foresaw heartbreak in her future and then walked away.#permanently.#okay these tags went in like 50 different directions#tldr katara loves grown ups & grown ups love her & we love her for it

okay bUT-
grandma toph with little iroh ii, since he's the first grandkid in the entire gaang and maiko holding it over their heads till baatar jr is born,,,,, so here's my ask.
grandparents kantoph with baby iroh?????
Okay bUT—
I love this idea.
I don’t feel like it would be a stretch for Kantoph and Maiko to have a mini competition of sorts lmao. Like, the second their kids start dating people seriously, they start placing bets on when some grand babies will arrive LOL.
Which, probably not the smartest move on the Beifong family side, because Izumi is much older than Lin and Suyin (maybe Toph is like “eh, Su gets around, she may surprise us” LMAO).
Anyway, when Toph and Kanto go to visit the baby, they absolutely fall in love with Iroh, because how can you not? The lil guy is so cute and a sweet baby, Toph and Kanto argue who’s the favorite LOL. Mai and Zuko are all smug and like “So uh… where’s your grand baby?” And this leads to a classic bickering session between all of them, but it’s all in good fun :)
But as far as Kantoph interacting with baby Iroh, Toph loves tracing his little face and poking his chubby cheeks. Kanto sits next to Toph and peers over her shoulder to see the baby, and often he’ll grab Iroh’s tiny hand to wave it and say hi!
And then in general, I feel like Toph and Kanto will give Iroh things that Mai and Zuko say no to, and they spoil him (but also they get into some wild shenanigans with Iroh). Toph is big on just chillin with Iroh in her lap when he’s a baby, but then when he’s older she does pranks with him. Kanto would be that one great uncle who tossed baby Iroh in the air (Zuko does NOT like it LMAO).
When Su has Baatar Jr., Mai and Zuko are sure to “take revenge” on Toph and Kanto. And sometimes Jr. prefers his royal great aunt and uncle LOL. That bothers Toph and Kanto only because they know they’re the cool grandparents and they whine whenever Zuko and Mai are getting more attention from Baatar Jr.
But yes them as grandparents is so adorable pls I love it. Kantoph and Maiko being the cool and chill grandparents is just *chef’s kiss*
……
Send me asks about ATLA, or anything, really! :D

Suki
“Katara, don’t you think you need a rest?” I ask her while I watch her drop herself on one of the couches after updating the servants and sages on Zuko’s condition, (after she has been tending Zuko, Sokka, and Aang’s injuries and my own inflamed ankle). “Relax a little, I’ll tell everyone it is not your job to boss them around if you want.”
“No, no, it’s okay,” she says. Although it doesn’t sound very convincing with her breath so heavy and her hands holding her head. “They’re just worried like everyone is.”
“I know, I get that, but point is you don’t have to be the go-to person of old people that should know better than us poor teenagers.”
“Apparently, I am,” her dense breath mixes with a small giggle.
“Do you need some help?”
“You need to rest your ankle as well, Suki.”
“Let me worry about that, I am responsible for my own problems.”
“Suki, I meant it,” she insists. Eyes tired, but she still insists. “I’m fine.”
I would like to argue with her, but considering our current circumstances and how chaotic the past days were… I don’t want to bring any more tension. Expressly no when the air of conspiracy and maliciousness still floats in the Fire Palace and we keep waiting for it to fade away.
“If you say so,” I cede. “Anyway, how is Zuko doing? Sokka told me you put him to play babysitter today since it looks like daredevil antics die hard.”
“I did tell him to watch over Zuko, but Sokka was exaggerating in that last part,” she explains, “Zuko is just frustrated for not being able to do anything. I think he is also antsy. It must be difficult to be back in the Fire Palace after everything that has happened.”
“Yeah, I can imagine.”
We stay silent for a little while. During which I get to notice the tiny spark of something in Katara’s eyes now that we are talking about Zuko…
“You think he is excited for becoming Fire Lord?” I ask, venturing. “That’s kind of a big deal.”
She shrugs. “Don’t know, we haven’t talked much about that.”
“Bet every Fire Nation girl our age will throw a party the day of his coronation,” I comment, ‘casually’. “He is very handsome.”
Katara’s cheeks turn a bright, soft shade of red. She brushes a hair behind her ear. “I suppose.”
“What do you mean ‘you suppose’? Since you two spend so much time together, I assumed you’d have given him a good look by now,” I smirk.
Katara looks away, still brushing her hair.
“Bet he already has entire fan clubs around here, too,” I go on.
Katara pouts. “I know what you’re doing.”
My smirk widens. “Doing what?”
“Zuko and I are just friends,” she presses.
“And I’m not denying that,” I remark, “I’m just saying, it’s hard to find boys who are handsome and sweet. And fine, not even those boys are all that perfect, but it’s all their trying that makes them worth it. It’s even harder to find someone who tries so hard to be and do better.”
“That’s why you fell for Sokka?”
I’m not ashamed of blushing. I am… too fond of the weird charm that is Sokka being an adorable dork to care if anybody sees how hard I fell for him.
“Yes, I guess so,” I admit. “He was a real jerk when we first met.”
“You tell me.”
“But,” I emphasize, “It’s about the trying. Sokka apologized because he recognized his gross sexism was wrong.”
“And then he asked you to teach him how to fight.”
“If he hadn’t done any of that – especially the apology – I wouldn’t have given him the time of day,” my tone and pose are dignifying.
Katara doesn’t sound convinced though. “Mm-hmmmm…”
I throw one of the cushions on the couch at her and she catches it laughing. Makes me laugh, too.
“You don’t have anyone that has done for you what Sokka did for me, Katara?” I ask.
She stays quiet. And then shrugs smoothly, brushing another strand of hair.

Burning Heart: Pt 3
Burning heart masterlist
Pairing: Zuko x reader, Zuko x y/n
Tags: Enemies to lovers, slow burn
Summary: Raised mostly by yourself, you made a living for your youth years as a maid in one of the richest families in Ba sing se, Beifongs. There Toph, a blind young rich girl, taught you earth bending and also became your new family. Not that you would admit that to her. Together you escape Ba sing se on the back of a flying bison with the Avatar, in a mission to take back the world from the fire nation. But on the journey you didn’t plan to team up with the Fire prince himself, and you definitely did not plan to get butterflies around him. But you couldn’t possibly catch feelings for a fire bender right? They ruined your life and took everything of value from you. But you couldn’t lie to your burning heart.
Warnings: swearing
Tumblr media
I thought that since Toph was actually blind now, feet burned beyond recognition, that she would go easy on me today. I was clearly wrong. She was quickly up on her feet again (pun intended). Toph had been teaching me earth bending in secret since i was a maid to her family so her tough teaching techniques were no surprise. She had me and Aang working to the bone before we finally, covered in sweat, got a break. Or more like I got a break while Aang had his next bending lesson. Fire. His first. I couldn't help my curiosity as I stood leaned against the closest wall watching Zuko in his professor role.  The balcony of the upside down pagoda in the temple was hot. Sweat was climbing up my back as I wiped my forehead with the back of my hand. Zuko seemed to catch Aang's hyper demaoner “I know you're nervous, but remember, firebending in it of itself is not something to fear.” Aang didn't meet his eyes but sighed deeply instead “Okay. Not something to fear”.Zuko nodded as he closed his fists. “But if you don't respect it”, he raised his voice so it echoed through the temple “it'll chew you up and spit you out like an angry komodo rhino!”. I held back the laugh threatening at the picture of Zuko with tensed eyes and a yelping Aang. Zuko clearly picked the “bad cop” technique when it came to teaching, just like Toph. He crossed his arms over his strong chest and took a step backwards “Now show me what you've got. Any amount of fire you can make”. Aang inhales nervously as he hesitates and moves out his arms. I can see fear in his eyes as they focus on the palm of his hand. A small, almost impossible to catch, cloud of smoke appears. But as fast as it comes it dissipates to nothing. The look on Aang was a blend of disappointment and relief.
Aang looked up hopefully “Maybe i need a little more instruction. Perhaps a demonstration?”. Zuko raised an eyebrow “Good idea, You might wanna take a couple steps back”. Even if he wasn't talking to me I obliged and moved further back. I hadn't seen him in action up close yet. I was unsure what to expect but that was definitely not it.  With a grunt Zuko opens his tightly closed fist to let out…. a flame smaller than the palm of my hand. Aang, supportive as he was, applauded at this disappointing display. Me? i bursted out laughing, finally alerting them of my presence. They both sharply turned to me, who was doubled over in laughter. “You might wanna take a couple steps back?”I wiped away fake tears “What was that? That was the worst firebending I've ever seen!”. Zuko did not take that mockery ease as he pursed his lips hard enough to break his jaw.  Aang interrupted Zuko before he could yell at me “I thought it was...nice”. He smiled slightly and shrugged which made it even harder to hold back my smile.
Zuko, annoyed at my amused face, tried to prove me wrong. He let out a loud grunt, which made a wave of excitement go through my stomach. But I pretended I didn't even notice it. His next three attempts resulted in very very small flames similar to the first. Defeated he glares frustrated down at his palms “what is happening”. Aang rubbed his head, trying to comfort Zuko “maybe it's the altitude”.I left my safe spot to move my way to them “Or maybe you can't firebend anymore, which is like the only reason we took you in”. Zuko’s burning eyes just lit my amusement more “oh oh! i call dibs on Zuko’s room when we throw him out”. Aang stretches his smaller hand out to stop me from upsetting anybody further. Zuko scrowls as he turns his back at me with clearly better self control than I thought he had. Time passes and Zuko keeps pushing himself with no improvement. Aang was sitting beside me on a broken pillar as we watched Zuko deliver a pointless blast after another. “that one kind of felt hot”, Aang bursted out as he got on his feet. I snickered at his comment, as I swung my legs against the pillar. But Zuko got angry, angrier than he had ever become after any of my comments. “Don't patronize me! You know what it’s supposed to look like!”. He was right, I had seen many fire benders but no one was as worthless as Zuko at the moment. “He didn't need to patronize you, you do that very well on your own”. Zuko aimed a flame at me that was even worse than his previous ones “Shut up!”. Aang held up his hands in defense “ Sorry, Sifu Hotman”. I bursted out laughing so hard it hurt the depths of my stomach.  Zuko raises his arms above his head and throws them back with a shout of frustration. Aang gringes at his sudden outburst. “And stop calling me that!”, Zuko yells which makes me laugh possibly even harder.
Night creeps up on us as everyone is getting settled for dinner. Even Appa has a mouthful of hay as he rests next to the fountain. Everyone is busy calming their rouring stomachs, everyone except Zuko. He’s leaning on a column with his arms crossed, looking down the cracked ground under him. He looks deep in thought with his wrinkled forehead, but no one seems to notice. No one except me of course. Suddenly he turns his head to the campfire as he makes his way over to where we’re sitting. “Listen everybody, I've got some pretty bad news. I've lost my stuff”, He looks below dejectedly. Toph, used to being accused of stealing by now, raises her hands above her head. “Don't look at me!”, she folded her arms “i didn't touch your stuff”. I giggle at her outburst and enjoy the view of Zuko’s ashamed face. He looks down again “I'm talking about my firebending. It's gone”. I cross my arms and throw my legs up on a pillar “as if you even had it in the first place”. Everybody around the fireplace sits up, different emotions painted on their faces. Sokka is the only one giving me a reaction as he pretends to fire bends with an annoyed face like Zuko had been doing the entire day. It brought a quiet shaking laugh from me. But my laugh quieted down as a clearer brighter laughter took place. Katara had her head bent backwards as her body shook from the laugh. Was Katara… mocking Zuko. It was the only time Katara had done anything remotely funny, but it still deep down struck a nerve that she was making fun of  him. It was my job. But I couldn't possibly be petty over such a small pointless thing. Everyone had turned their attention towards her, including Zuko, who had an annoyed expression twisting his handsome face. She held her hands up, hiding her face “I'm sorry. I'm just laughing at the irony. You know, how it would've been nice for us if you lost your firebending a long time ago”. Zuko gringed “Well, it's not lost. It's just ... weaker for some reason”. Katara held up her bowl and glared at Zuko over the brim “Maybe you're not as good as you think you are”. Both me and Toph, alike as we are, Made a hissing noise at the same time and met each other's eyes “ouch”.  Zuko ignored Toph's sarcastic smile as he brightened up with an idea “I bet it's because I changed sides”. Katara gave him another glare as she brought the bowl to her lips “That's ridiculous”. It was the first time I had seen Aang disagree with Katara “I don't know. Maybe it isn't. Maybe your firebending comes from rage and you just don't have enough anger to fuel it the way you used to”.
“Zuko has not been angry? then what have i been doing all day”, i smirked over at Sokka who returned the facial expression. He leans towards zuko and points a finger above “Easy enough”. He pokes Zuko with his shining swords hilt in the head and waist several times. Toph and I cling onto each other to not fall over from laughing. Zuko growles behind closed teeth “okay cut it out!”. Sokka's sword slips from his hands and is thrown above before falling on his head. Zuko sighs and rubs his nose “look, even if you're right. I don't want to rely on hate and anger anymore. There has to be another way”.
Sokka rubs his head in pain from the burst with the sword but no one seems to pay him any care. Toph takes a big bite from her food “You're gonna need to learn to draw your firebending from a different source. I recommend the original source”.I furrowed my eyebrows “I thought that fire bending's original source was pain, rage and suffering”. I didn't miss the way Zuko pursed his lips and looked down in something similar to shame. Sokka seemed to forget his head injury as he excitedly looked up “How's he supposed to do that? By jumping into a volcano?”.Toph shook her head and wiggles her feet “No. Zuko needs to go back to whatever the original source of firebending is”. Sokka's dreams of Zuko diving into a volcano is crushed “So, is it jumping into a volcano?”.
“I don't know”,  Toph puts her bowl down beside her “For earthbending, the original benders were badgermoles''. I remembered the many times Toph had brought me to the tunnels and showed me where she met the Badgermoles. That seemed like forever ago.  “Isn't the original fire benders Dragons? Where the fuck are we going to find a dragon just chilling?”, I looked up at Zuko who sighed deeply. “we are not going to, Dragons are extinct”. Aang shook his head “What do you mean‌? Roku had a dragon, and there were plenty of dragons when I was a kid”. Zuko's face twists up, as if he knows something we don't. “Well, they aren't around anymore, okay?”. I feel bad for Aang because he yelps at Zuko's harsh tone. “Okay, okay!”,he moved his arms in an appeasing manner “I'm sorry”. Zuko moves on his long slender legs to the fountain. “But maybe there's another way”, he looks away in deep thought “The first people to learn from the dragon were the ancient Sun warriors”.Aang who always seemed to think he knew the most since he was technically 100 years older than the rest walks towards Zuko. “Sun warriors? Well I know they weren't around when i was a kid”, Aang stood beside Zuko now. “No, they died off thousands of years ago. But their civilization wasn't too far from where we are now”, Zuko  tilts his head toward Aang “Maybe we can learn something by poking around their ruins''. Sokka mirrors my suspicions “So what? Maybe you'll pick up some super old sun warrior energy just by standing where they stood a thousand years ago?”. He backs up his question by flaring his hands around in a weird motion which makes me hit my forehead with my hand. Zuko shifted his weight forward. “More or less. Either I find a new way to firebend '', he turns his head towards Aang ”or the Avatar has to find a new teacher”.
When Zuko left with the Avatar, the temple seemed to become much more quiet. Haru, the Duke and Teo were on yet another exploration mission. Katara was worrying for Aang, while she cooked the same meal we had been eating for days. Toph, Sokka and I laid spread out, floating over the water in the fountain. The heat had been getting worse and it was the only way to cool down. Sokka threw a worried look at her sister.“What do you think Sifu hotman and smaller bald Kyoshi is doing right now?”, I asked as I sat up in the fountain. My soaked hair was dripping down my back. Sokka smiled half way “Zuko is probably pissed because his worthless Sun warrior plan is not working out and Aang is probably playing peacemaker and trying to calm him down”.  Toph smirked and splashed some water with her feet. Katara sneered at us and I wondered if it was because she didn't like that we were talking about Aang or if she was jealous that we were bonding better then she had done with any of us. I was guessing on the latter. “If you could have any original animal from any bend type, which one would you have?”, Sokka asked to change the conversation subject. Toph didn't even need to think  for a second “obviously the badgermoles”. Sokka looked offended “really? You would pick a blind disgusting rat over a flying bison?”. I inhaled dramatically “Blind disgusting rat?! That's my best friend you're talking about!”. Sokka burst out in laughter and Toph rolled her eyes ironically “ha ha ha”.  I looked forward, deep in thought “I hate the fire nation but honestly the dragon is the most badass”. Sokka lifted an eyebrow surprised “they're extinct, remember?”. Katara moved a spoon through the home made meal as she mumbled “i wish that the entire fire nation was extinct”. We all fell silent, like we mostly did everytime Katara opened her mouth. I thought about how different my life would have been if the fire nation didn't exist. I would still have my mom. I would have grown up with a present and loving father. If my mom had gotten good care while giving birth, instead of hiding in a barn from the fire nation, she wouldn't have died in childbirth. And if my mom hadn't died, my dad wouldn't have blamed me for her death. He wouldn't have been slaughtered by the fire nation when they invaded my home years later on the look for something we didn't even have. But I would never have met Toph. I would never have gotten so good at earth bending. I wouldn't have met the avatar gang. But I still closed my eyes and imagined a world without the fire nation for just another second.
by the look of Aangs and Zuos excited faces when they returned, I guessed it was a successful mission. I can't help but feel relieved that they're okay, and to my surprise I'm relieved for both of them. A sense of calm fills me when I see that they're BOTH unharmed, but I would never admit that to anybody. They're quick to get into positions to start demonstrating what the sun warriors taught them. They moved gracefully, every motion mirrored between them as yin and yan. Fire licked the sides of their bodys without hurting them, as if the fire and their bodies were one. I had grown up with the view of fire as a plot of destruction, a tool for suffering and power play. But now, in the upside-down pagodas in the Western Air Temple, the fire looked nothing like that. It wasn't violent. It was beautiful, I could see shades of blue and green. I could see all the colors of the rainbow within the flames, similar to the reflection of water. Or the sharpened glass in the depths of the earth. Or how air bent sunlight on a hot day. I could see all elements moving from the palms of their hands in the shape of combustions of flames. Deep deep down within my bones I could feel a yearn for the fighting of flames. A longing for the feel of the heat against my hands, that I quickly pushed down. Fire was dangerous, it was not beautiful. It was difficult to convince myself when I left the hole of lament in my heart. The rest of the avatar gang interrupted my thoughts with applause as the two got into their final postures. “Yeah, that's a great dance you two learned there”, Sokka bursted out playfully. Normally i would join him with a remark myself but i wasn't in the mood. My feelings were conflicted and I couldn't focus on anything else. Zuko seemed offended. “It's not a dance. It's a firebending form”. Sokka moves his fingers in a dancing manner “We’ll just tap-dance our way to victory over the Fire Lord”.
Zuko makes his way over to Sokka with a threatening glimpse in his eyes “It's a sacred form that happens to be a thousand years old!”. Katara crosses her arms “Oh yeah? What is your little form called?”. Zuko's eyes met the ground embarrassed “The dancing Dragon”. The gang erupted in loud laughter as Zujo gringes in embarrassment. I stand quiet, not paying attention to how Zuko turns to me. “You haven't said any mocking remark about our form”, he bent down to my level to try to catch my attention. “You mean your dance?”I ask and raise an eyebrow. He mimics my expression “Really? is that it?”. I didn't even catch his bait as I waved him away “I'm not in the mood”. As I moved away I felt Zuko's burning eyes on the plate of my back. “Since when is she not in the mood”, Zuko mumbled to himself, confused. I was busy thinking about how I had longed to touch fire. The thing that destroyed my life.

Okay, so basically I was in a mood for adult gaang reunion, so I wrote this. Here you are, hope you’ll enjoy ✨
“Just like old times”
“Suki, come on, we’re gonna be late!” called out Sokka, entering their hut. Again. “Everything’s ready but you two.”
His wife laughed.
“Relax, Sokka, they won’t start without us. And you know that Yue needs to have her hair done.” She raised her eyebrows, while she was running fingers through her daughter’s hair.
“Yeah, dad, you know that” she took up, making a face to him. Sokka shook his head both with disbelief and a smile. He sat down, watching his beautiful ladies.
“I’m not worried they’d start without us, though” he explained. “There’s no fun without Sokka, duh.”
Suki rolled her eyes, but didn’t say anything.
“I’m just concerned Katara’s going to get there earlier than I am.”
His wife even turned her head from Yue’s hair to him, only to see his priceless face expression.
“You didn’t bet with Katara again, did you?” she asked, lowkey already knowing the answer.
“Well, I couldn’t let her win just like that.” Sokka shrugged his shoulders. Suki sighed.
“You’re gonna lose, sweetie” she proclaimed.
“Not if we sticked to my schedule, I wouldn’t.”
“You didn’t make the time for mom to braid my hair, dad” slipped Yue. “You knew what you were getting yourself into.”
“Why excuse me, I assumed mom can braid your hair on ship” explained Sokka, extremely offended. His daughter shook her head as much as Suki’s hands in her hair allowed her to.
“Absolutely not possible.”
Sokka looked at his wife, seeking help. Suki shrugged with a smile.
“There’s nothing I can do. You knew what you were getting yourself into.”
Chief sighed and shook his head, defeated. This whole trip already started to go totally not as planned.
***
Sokka got off the ship and wasn’t even surprised that the first person who greeted him wasn’t neither Zuko, nor Aang, nor Toph and not even Mai.
“Hello, looser.” Grinned Katara. Sokka rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, yeah, shut up” he mumbled, hugging her in greeting. “It’s all Suki’s fault, by the way.”
Katara laughed.
“It kind of is” admitted Suki, also going for a hug. “It’s so great to see you, Katara, how are you doing?”
“I’m great, I’m really great. Tenzin is growing up so fast, you wouldn’t believe it.” She laughed. “I can’t believe it’s been almost a year.”
“I know, right? You’ve been out of the South for so long, we really missed you back there.”
“I didn’t” slipped Sokka teasingly, unpacking things from the ship. His sister hit him in the arm.
“Go back to carrying stuff, Sokka” she spat.
“Wait, honey, I’ll give you a hand” suggested Suki.
“No need, I’m doing great!” cried out her husband, taking three more boxes. “I mean, I definitely can see right now, so... tell me if I step on somebody, please” he puffed, trying to see the road.
Suki shook her head.
“Excuse me” she whispered to Katara and went to help out her husband. She took from him two boxes so that he could actually see something. He smiled to her gratefully. Katara grinned. And then she saw a little girl getting off the ship, rubbing her eyes sleepily.
“Are we there yet?” she asked, yawning and when nobody answered her, she looked around. Katara crossed her arms, waiting to be noticed. “Aunt Katara!” cried out Yue immediately after she spotted her. She ran towards her and before Katara knew it, she wrapped her little arms around her.
“Aunt Katara, I missed you so much!”
Katara laughed, hugging her niece back.
“I missed you, too, Yue. Look at you, all grown up! You’re a beautiful young lady.”
“Not as beautiful as you are, though.” Grinned Yue and her aunt shook her head. “Are Bumi and Kya here? And uncle Aang?”
“They are, you’ll meet them at the palace. And Tenzin’s with them as well.”
“Oh...” Yue made a face. “Is he still so squishy-looking?”
“I’m afraid he is” laughed Katara. “And you certainly are Sokka’s daughter” she added silently, shaking her head. Sokka walked up to them and took Yue’s hand.
“We’re ready, you’re coming?” asked his sister. She nodded and all four of them set off to the Fire Nation Royal Palace, where the rest was waiting for them. They saw Toph first, even though she didn’t exactly see them.
“Zuko” she started, before anyone was able to say something “needs to be put in his place. Who does he think he is, huh?”
“Uhh, try the Fire Lord” smiled Suki.
“Yeah, yeah, I don’t give a f...”
“Toph” interrupted her Suki, warningly. Toph seemed confused for a moment, but she finally understood when someone started to aggressively shake her hand.
“Right. Hi, kid.”
“Hey, aunt Toph” said Yue, very proud of herself for not giving Beifong a hug. “It’s nice to see you.”
“Yeah, I’d say the same about you but since I don’t actually see you...”
Yue grinned.
“I know. Hey, mom, dad, can I go inside and look for Bumi and Kya?”
Sokka nodded.
“Sure. But don’t forget to greet every... aaaand she’s gone already.”
“I don’t know why you sound so surprised, Chief Boomerang, you’d do exactly the same.”
“I know, right? It’s terrifying.” Smiled Sokka. “Anyways, it’s great to finally meet up. Man, I’ve been waiting for this whole reunion thing. We should do this annually.”
“We do” reminded Suki. “You came up with it.”
“Oh, right, I’m a genius.”
“You know, even with the inability to see, I can give you this look” said Toph, making a face to him, as if she’d been saying ‘really?’.
“And even with the ability to see, I can pretend I don’t get it” announced Sokka. “Come on, Toph, I’m sure Zuko has already repaired whatever you were mad with him about” he said, putting his arm around her shoulders and dragging her up the stairs.
“I am mad” spat Toph but let Sokka lead her inside the palace. “Present tense. And you didn’t even give me a chance to say hi to Suki.”
“I was pretty sure you did that.”
“What a detective” scoffed Toph.
“One more word and I’ll push you down these stairs and you know it” threatened Sokka. His friend just shook her head in response. Upstairs waited for them Aang.
“Oh, great, I was supposed to go after Toph, but I see this problem has been already resolved.” Laughed the Avatar.
“Who are you calling the problem, Twinkletoes?” tried to spit Toph, but she got quickly undermined, as no one reacted.
“Sokka, finally” sighed Aang, hugging his friend.
“Long time no see, huh, the fearsome Avatar?” Grinned Sokka. “I heard you’re doing pretty well by organising the world.”
“I am, thank you very much.” Laughed Aang. “Republic City is glowing.”
“I believe you. The South Pole is glowing, too.”
“I know. Just a little bit more and we’ll be there, promise.” Smiled Aang. “Suki, you look beautiful!” he called out, when he saw her. He held out his hands to hug her.
“Thank you, Aang, so do you.” Laughed Suki. “We missed you.”
“He promised they’ll be back soon” slipped Sokka, giving Aang a judgy look.
“Can we please move along?” Toph kicked her heels. “I gotta kick Zuko’s butt.”
“Toph, you cannot do this.” Sighed Aang, walking with her further to the palace. “We’ve been over this.”
Sokka and Suki smiled to each other. He put an arm around her waist and gently kissed her temple. Katara placed her hand at her brother’s shoulder and smiled.
“Come on” she encouraged. “Zuko and Mai are dying to meet up with you two. Besides, dinner’s almost ready.”
Sokka gave her a knowing look.
“Well, you should’ve started with that, sister!”
***
They met with the rest in the dining room. Everyone was there — Yue played with Bumi and Kya (and Kya’s waterbending), Mai was trying to calm down Izumi, who was somehow scared by Ty Lee and her tricks, while Aang tried to prevent bloodshed between Zuko and Toph. Sokka sighed.
“Just like old times, huh?”
“Just like old times” admitted Suki. She slipped out of Sokka’s arm and walked up to Ty Lee. The Kyoshi Warrior lit up immediately as she saw her.
“Hey, boss.” She smiled, bowing to her funnily. Suki shook her head.
“Hello, my dear warrior” she replied, bowing back. “Come on, bring it in.” She laughed as Ty Lee hugged her excitedly.
“It’s so good to see you, Suki. I wish you would visit us more often.”
“Me too.”
“We’re going to” assured Sokka, walking up to them. “This period of time was just super hard for both of us.”
“It was.” Nodded Suki.
“Hi, Ty Lee.” Sokka held out his hand to her and smiled.
“Sokka” greeted him Ty Lee, squeezing his hand. “Everything alright at the South Pole?”
“They’re certainly doing better than we are” replied Mai, before anyone else could answer the question. “I’d give you my hand but they’re both kind of busy.” She looked at her daughter suggestively. “It’s great you made it, though”
“We get it.” Smiled Suki. “You’re not getting much sleep, are you?”
Mai snorted.
“Much is overstatement.” She looked over her shoulder. “Oh, great, my husband’s coming. Well, Izumi, dad will put you to sleep.”
“Sokka, Suki.” Smiled Zuko and hugged both of them. “Yue’s greeted me like fifteen minutes ago, what took you so long?”
“Oh, see, she greeted him” said Suki to Sokka, smiling suggestively. Sokka made a proud face.
“She’s got great manners, she even addressed me Fire Lord Uncle Zuko.” Laughed Zuko.
“Speaking of” slipped Mai, handing his husband the baby. “It’s your turn to put Izumi to sleep.”
Zuko raised his eyebrows.
“No, I’m pretty sure it’s your turn now.”
“Nope” denied Mai, shaking her head.
The two of them looked each other in the eye for a moment, until Zuko finally gave up. “Damn it, why is uncle still in Ba Sing Se when I need him?” he mumbled. Mai smiled triumphantly. “Okay, sweetie, say goodnight to your uncle Sokka and aunt Suki and aunt Ty Lee, you’re going to sleep. I mean, I hope you are.” He gave his friends ‘I am so done’ look and was about to leave, when he reminded himself of something else.
“Oh, and of course make yourself comfortable, guys. Dinner will be ready in ten minutes.”
Suki smiled.
“Don’t worry, we won’t start without you.”
“We won’t?” groaned Sokka.
“No, we won’t, Sokka.”
Zuko rolled his eyes with a smile.
“Thanks, Suki” he said and left with little Izumi pulling his hair, which he was totally indifferent to.
“Wait, Zuko, you forgot...” started Mai, going after her husband. Ty Lee smiled to them and went back to the table. Suki hugged Sokka.
“Just like old times.” She sighed, repeating his words. Sokka smiled and hugged her tighter.
“Just like old times.”

-------------------------------------------------------
Aang held his hands up in the air as a form of surrender hoping that Toph would abide by it but of course she didn't, instead she through a fourth rock at the avatar which was followed by an evil laughter when he failed to block it.
"I said I surrender already, I need a break" exclaimed Aang lowering his arms and in ready position as he waiting for the following rock to fly towards him.
"You want a break twinkletoes?" cooed Toph as she bended another rock towards Aang this time he was able to dodge it. "Then beat me" she smirked a wicked grin as Aang groaned in exhaustion.
"Fine" he blurted as he quickly went to use airbending to knock Toph over, but she had learned Aang's tricks and felt the wind coming towards her and built a quick earth wall blocking the attack.
"Nope. Earth bending only twinkletoes, I wanna see how good your getting at earth bending" her smirked still plastered to her face as she lowered the earth wall. Aang furrowed his brow they had been training all morning, what he really needed was a break and Toph wasn't going to give him that anytime soon.
Aang exhaled and moved his foot slightly but as he expected Toph felt it and the two quickly engaged in a rock duel, Toph shook the ground beneath the avatar's feet trying to disrupt his balance and focus which was working to a mild extent. To counter this Aang attempted Toph's seismic sense which she taught him, it was hard focusing on the vibrating earth but he was able to locate a weakness within the earth that he could use to his advantage.
With a strong thrust of his arm a rock shot straight up from the earth and nicked the side of Toph right foot causing her to loose balance and break her concentration on the mild earth quake.
"Nice try" exclaimed the earthbender as she pulled at the side of the canyon they were in causing a mild rock slide to crash towards Aang. "Ah!" shouted Aang with surprise and fear when he looked up at the falling rocks rushing towards him. As a counter he pulled up earth and made a form of slide that guided the falling rocks away from him and towards Toph instead, but the earth bender wasn't fazed as she stomped her foot to the earth and broke Aang's slide causing the falling rocks to go every which way including towards the avatar.
Aang pushed out his hand smashing the largest rock rolling towards him to pieces his breath was ragged as he proceeded to crush the remaining loose and falling rocks. "Aw is someone getting tired?" teased the blind earth bender with her hands on her hips before she broke into laughter once more.
"Aren't you the great avatar? how are you supposed to defeat the Fire Lord if you can't even beat your girlfriend." teased Toph with a wicked cackle. Aang exhaled sharply and looked over at the earth bender and smirked when he thought of an idea.
"Welll... we both know your the greatest earthbender in the world, I'd probably have an easier chance of defeating the Fire Lord instead of you" stated Aang as he made a simple step towards Toph.
"You're right I am the greatest earthbender, you should be training with Sokka to have a more accurate guess of the Fire Lord's strength" teased Toph crossing her arms as she did so, she wasn't oblivious to Aang's movements and was waiting for him to make his move against her with each step he took.
"I don't know maybe even Sokka is more powerful then the Fire Lord?" questioned Aang he was standing almost in front of the Beifong, watching her closely
"Well, maybe twinkletoes, but you still need to master earthbending before you take on the Fire Lord and I don't think this flattery of yours is gonna work on him, considering it's not working on me" Toph smirked as she quickly kicked her heal at the ground bending Aang's feet out from underneath him.
"Gah!" exclaimed Aang as he lost his footing, he looked up at Toph annoyed with the mild failure of his plan. Once he got his breath be started pulling his feet out from the earth that Toph bended around his foot.
"Nice try Aang, but you'll have to do a lot better if your going to beat me at  this game" the blind girl smirked as she looked down at the avatar before her with triumph. Aang pulled his last foot out from under the earth and looked up at his girlfriend and smirked right back at her which she didn't know.
"Oh I know, flattery isn't your weakness, but maybe it's the Fire Lord. He seems like a man with an ego" joked Aang causing a laugh to rise from Toph.
"Oh I bet it" she agreed with a laugh but was abruptly caught off guard when Aang jumped up from the ground and planted a kiss on the blind girl's lips, catching her entirely off guard. Toph felt her face heat up from the sudden action as she returned his kiss and Aang smirked lightly before he quickly air into the kiss causing Toph to fall back.
"No, your weakness is physical signs of affection" cooed Aang with a smirk on his face as Toph looked up at the vague location where he was standing, her face bright red from the kiss and Aang's trick.
"I thought I said no air bending" snapped Toph
   "True"
"I also said to stop doing that!" shouted Toph as she stood up from the ground.
"True, you have said it, but your face every time is just adorable" cooed Aang lovingly as he took Toph's hand  "Now can we take a break?" he inquired.
"Ya ya, we can take your stupid break, but don't think this is over twinkletoes" warned Toph with a wicked smirk which instantly caused Aang's heart to beat faster out of pure panic, there was too much that she could do to him that he couldn't prepare for.
"Would an apology matter?" he asked with a worried smile.
"Nope, not this time" smirked Toph as the two walked back to the group hand in hand.
