Shajara al-Durr

Shajara al-Durr (r. 1250) was the founder of the Mamluk Dynasty in Egypt, and she was the first and only woman to sit on the Islamic Egyptian throne. She held the title of sultana for only 80 days but left a lasting mark through architectural monuments, which bear her symbol, a tree lined with mother of pearl and inlaid with gold.

Chajar ad-Durr (r. 1250) fut la fondatrice de la dynastie mamelouke en Égypte, et elle fut la première et la seule femme à s'asseoir sur le trône de l'Égypte islamique. Elle ne porta le titre de sultane que pendant 80 jours, mais laissa une empreinte durable à travers les monuments architecturaux, qui portent son symbole : un arbre bordé de nacre et incrusté d'or.

"Battles continued in Khartoum and its sister cities on Wednesday. In El Gezira, the Darfur Justice Platform condemned a SAF bombing of El Haj Abdallah on Monday. In Darfur, residents and displaced alike continue to face extremely challenging conditions as food, shelter, and telecommunications are unavailable to many.

In the neighbourhoods of Ombadda El Hara blocks 51, 52, and 16 in Omdurman, at least nine people were fatally shot by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), as an RSF unit sought to enter the area on Wednesday. On the same day, a large fire broke out in one of the factories within the popular market in Omdurman.

The Coordination of the Resistance Committees of Karari, Omdurman, reported yesterday that the RSF “indiscriminately targeted residents’ homes with random projectiles, resulting in the destruction of one home in El Sawra El Hara 4” on Wednesday.

Yesterday in Khartoum, artillery shelling exchanges took place between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF in the vicinity of the SAF General Command in Khartoum, the Signal Corps area in Khartoum North (Bahri), and El Shajara Armoured Corps...."

if you don’t remember (or mixed them up, which, same), in Chapter 19, Marinette tells Damian that she’s leaving, and he reacts... badly. That is, he stabs her. It’s... not great. Afterwards, Alfred, Barbara, and Kori all comfort her in their own ways and Marinette remnisces about Shajara, her old mentor. We also get a Damian POV, as well as a truly unhinged blooper. ~all~ of this was meme-able, idk if it was the content itself or the sleep deprivation lmao

Palestinian cartoonist Naji al-Ali (B. 1938, Al-Shajara - D. London, 1987). During the Nakba (1948), Naji al Ali and his family were displaced from their hometown Al-Shajara in the north of Palestine, when he was a ten years old boy himself, and went to live in Ain al-Hilweh near Sidon.

He reflected on Handala's creation: "The character of Handala was a sort of icon that protected my soul from falling whenever I felt sluggish or I was ignoring my duty. That child was like a splash of fresh water on my forehead, bringing me to attention and keeping me from error and loss. He was the arrow of the compass, pointing steadily towards Palestine. Not just Palestine in geographical terms, but Palestine in its humanitarian sense — the symbol of a just cause, whether it is located in Egypt, Vietnam or South Africa. I am from Ain Al-Helwa, a camp like any other camp. The people of the camps were the people of the land in Palestine. They were not merchants or landowners. They were farmers. When they lost their land, they lost their lives. The bourgeoisie never had to live in the camps, whose inhabitants were exposed to hunger, to every degradation and to every form of oppression. Entire families died in our camps. Those are the Palestinians who remain in my mind, even when my work takes me away from the camp.”

BIO: While making more vessels the Pale King had made one but when she was complete she wasn't as pure as the Hollow Knight, she looked too much like her mother and was able to soften the King's heart for a short bit, having looking more like the White Lady the King couldn't bare to throw her away in the Abyss with the others, he spared her and presented her to the Queen as their second daughter thus making her the second Princess of Hallownest. Like her older sister Shajara, Layl got royal lessons as well but wasn't drawn to the combat like her brothers and sister, she was drawn to medicine and healing, spending time some a few of the royal gardens and her mothers gardens learning about all sorts of herbs and plants and their medicinal properties, when she learned of the truth of her fallen siblings she became racked with guilt at the thought that she could've saved them and wanted to die in their place, been thrown out like the others, she shut herself away from her mother and father, but slowly became open when a dancer named Neela arrived. When Neela became a threat to a group of rouge Kingsmould, Layl had no choice but to run away from the Palace with her younger sister Aatma and Neela by orders of her mother. After fleeing from the Palace the three of them found themselves on the shores of Blue Lake, tired and cold the three of them didn't know where to go, until they heard what sounded like carnival music, the three met the Master of the Grimm Troupe, Grimm. Promising them shelter and safety Grimm took the three women in with Layl as a singer, Aatma as a seamstress and Neela as a dancer.

Fun Fact:  - She is highly skilled in medicinal herbs and loves to learn more about new herbs and if they can be used for medicine. She is also the second princess of Hallownest.  - She suffers from Survivors Guilt, it only shows up when a family member or dear friend has been hurt is gravely hurt  - Takes care of others to the point of exhaustion.  - Has a deep love of nature, and cares deeply for her nieces and nephews. -Her dream is to one day have Hallownest back to normal and safe, until then she's happy to give advice and help plant healing herbs and plants around the kingdom to help anyone who would need it.  .
