the way lissa told rose she didn’t want rose to be her guardian anymore is SUCH a great example of the way their relationship works at the beginning. lissa genuinely loves rose and thinks she sees her as an equal. but as she learns about the oppression of dhampirs for the benefit of moroi, she begins to realize how complicit she’s been, and in trying to protect herself from the shame she feels at having been ignorant, makes rash decisions that she believes contribute to equalizing the society but in reality only serve to alleviate her own guilt.

lissa even says she knows she’ll have another guardian, and she hears rose say that she’ll have to guard someone else anyway. but at this point, lissa doesn’t care so much about how her decision to fire rose affects dhampir society, rose herself, or even what rose wants—she cares that SHE will not be the one directly oppressing the person she considers her best friend. even when rose is screaming that in a world where she has no agency and no choices, being with lissa is all she wants, lissa can’t give rose the one thing she needs to make her life bearable because of how it makes lissa feel.

it reminds me so much of the end of shadow kiss, when lissa tries to force rose to stay for her and fails to understand rose making a decision for herself that doesn’t have to do with lissa. at that point, and at this point in the show, lissa thinks their relationship has equal power because lissa does not directly oppress rose or limit her agency. but now, confronted with the reality that they are inherently unequal and no amount of care for rose can change that, she lashes out by doing exactly what she believes she doesn’t do: disregarding rose’s needs to protect herself.

Reading Vampire Academy books. Currently on Shadow kiss. And Christian knowing that Rose would never ever just leave him to the mercy of the strigoi is just so heart warming. I love how he's not giving her a heard time over what happened with Stan.

I'm currently reading a Vampire Academy Fanfiction about the characters reading the books and changing the future. And I forgot how MUCH I hate Lissa and how annoying she is. They are reading Shadow Kiss right now, and Lissa is trying to set Rose up with everyone she can find. Like, girl, just because you have a boyfriend doesn't mean everyone has to have one. And on the other hand ROSE AND DIMITRI BELONG TOGETHER! So don't try to set her up just because you want to or you think it's right. And people are gonna say ''She doesn't know about Rose's feelings for Dimitri''. I know that, but I just don't like Lissa, and I hate what she is trying to do (Generaly, I hate everything she does, and I think she is a bad friend).

Storylines from the other books that they used in just the first season of VA (or the first four eps at least)🫡:

Frostbite: literally everything, except that they went to the ski resort, but they got the whole Janine thing plus the black eye, the rising fear in Strigoi attacks among the Moroi, I bet my ass they’re gonna include the outing to hunt Strigoi too. They already got too close with Mason going after Christian, but this bts pic makes me nervous:

They’re literally the same people that got out of the wards (except for Meredith and I can’t tell if Mia’s among them) so I’m scared okay. But there’s basically no plot left anymore from this book… it’s all used up? Wtf? Adrian’s also getting introduced later on, so what’s the point of a season two?

Shadow Kiss: the benchmarks… I’m just really disappointed with how they handled that. They also included the Strigoi managing to break the wards by working together.

Blood Promise: nice little foreshadowing to Dimitri there during the attack in the chapel

Spirit Bound: the age thing of the guardians + kind of that conversation Rose had with the queen, a small variation of it

Last Sacrifice: Lissa’s whole becoming queen + the quorum thing… this is literally the final book in the series and they’re using half of its plot in the first fucking season of the series… I think we can all agree how ridiculous that is, right?

This just shows how incredibly fast they’re going. They’re focusing more on the plot than they do on character development and relationships and it shows. They’re handing everything to us without us having to actually long for it… I’m not really excited for Romitri as I was in the books. Christian and Rose have lost a lot of their snark. By grabbing so many huge plot points from other books, they lose the characterization that was such a big focus in the books too. It was one of my favorite things in fact to see how Rose slowly learns to be responsible, how Lissa fights her inner demons (albeit from Rose’s perspective). Now it’s all just politics and even though I love that in fantasy stories, this is not balanced at all. It’s 90% plot, 10% characterization if not less.
