finally, some aph uzb headcanons

i realize i've done some korea, amekor, and turkuzbek hcs but i've never actually done one of my blorbo uzbekistan. so thats changing right now

- she's of average uzbek woman height(167cm) and her hair is that shade of brown that looks almost black, but when the sunlight hits just right it looks like a faint shade of auburn. you know, that kind of hair shade.

- her name is "nargiza" which translates to "narcissus flower" or "daffodil." her close friends and family(and turkey too ig 🙄) call her nargiz for short.

- her hobbies are embroidery and quiltmaking with tajikistan, trying out new desserts to bake, reading, gossiping, piano playing and knitting(she picked up both from russia), drinking hot black tea in even hotter weather(she's a tea elitist and Will Not Consider iced tea to be part of the tea category)

- best cook. she's the best cook out of the central asians and they always try to have her cook dinner("it just hits different when you cook food for us apa")

- she has a resting scary/angry face. she looks like she's about to kill someone. but when you ask her a question she'll immediately smile and won't hesitate to help you in whatever way she can.

- has the best relationship with kazakhstan and tajikistan. though sometimes she has a habit of babying kazakhstan as an older sister. old habits from the uzbek khanate die hard i guess...

- has a weird relationship with uyghurstan, and they have a few very awkward phone calls per year. if you heard the minutes of silence sandwiched in between their conversations you'd experience second hand embarrassment.

- her relations with iran are interesting. she adopted persian as the official and court language of the bukharan khanate. but she's also tried to take parts of iran's land a few times. for a while iran even exerted control over the bukharan khanate for a few years by persian ruler nader shah until he died. there's been a lot of cultural exchange from iran to uzbekistan historically, and uzbekistan is also considered a part of the greater iran region(maybe i should give her the ahoge...). nowruz, for example, is a holiday that came from persia and is celebrated in the central asian countries, especially tajikistan and uzbekistan.

- she...doesn't like russia. not at all. it's one of the few things she and kyrgyzstan both agree on, and they've both fantasized about throwing themselves at him like rabid dogs for a while(kyrgyzstan was more serious about it, and uzbekistan had to stop him) but after her independence she had to suck up to him due to her economic reliance on him. recently, though, she's been moving away from russia in favor of spotting economic opportunities within uzbekistan that will help with self-growth(and also reaching out to turkey and china for mutual trading)

- she's not the most developed nation out there, but is still very prissy about her overall appearance. she knows how to clean up. don't even get me started on the things she wears to weddings. she isn't worried about competition because she IS the competition.

- at home, she'll wear the usual stuff you'd see an uzbek mom wear, a matching dress and pants cut from atlas fabric. she'll have a small scarf wrapped around her hair to pull it back, and has her hair up in a ponytail, bun, or braids.

- when she's out, she wears perfectly coordinated outfits every single time, hair and makeup perfectly done.

- dont be fooled though. she Will wear the definitely fake chanel sweaters and slippers with pride.

- she fake smiles a lot and tries to stop her habit of having a resting scary face. even though that's her default, she's gotten a lot of flack from old ladies throughout the centuries for it.

- generally, she's not a super expressive, bubbly person(that's her sister tajikistan). she's fine with small talk(and DEFINITELY gossiping) but depending on who it is and whether they're in her social circle or not, she'll either enjoy it or hate every agonizing second of it. When you ask about her house though, she'll tell you everything with a certain sparkle in her eyes.

- if you want her to go through all 44 feelings at once and watch her freak out and overheat like an old gaming PC just bring up turkey i guess

- to get into her social circle takes a lot of time and a lot of waiting for her to open up and talk about personal things. Think maybe...20 years at the very least.

- leading into the other headcanon of her being a little insecure. throughout the years, the uber-collectivist society of uzbekistan caused her to become more and more hyperaware of her actions and how others will think about them. the one exception is that she can't hide her disappointment.

- her predecessors are the khwarazmian empire and timurid empire. she barely knew the khwarazmian empire as uzbekistan was born as one of the few tribes to emerge after khwarazmi was engulfed by the mongols.

- she was old enough to remember timurid, however. he was like her older brother, albeit one with...skewed moral values. he'd always insist that this was all to rekindle the empire that the great genghis khan left behind, and to spread islam as a religion.

"besides," he'd add, "isn't samarqand looking absolutely beautiful lately?"

"yes, because you kidnapped the best artisans and craftsmen after looting their cities." she deadpanned.

- she was quite surprised(and impressed, by a sliver) when her brother managed to successfully siege ankara and cause a civil war in the ottoman empire. she knew timurid was growing, but she had no idea he got this strong. it almost didn't seem surprising when he announced his plans to go after china, before he died(and then respawned as the mughal empire, but that's another story.)

- "russia when i catch you russia" - uzbekistan since the 1870s

- she has a house in tashkent and bukhara, but mostly lives in tashkent now that it's the capital. since she's literally the center of central asia and borders everyone including afghanistan, they all stay at her house when traveling(turkey is stuck at a hotel whenever he visits tho...)

- her spice tolerance? dont even ask. its not there. completely gone. give her a little heinz chili sauce and she's scrambling to find water.

- once korea took her out on a date to a korean restaurant. one bite of the kimchi and it was over for her

- if you ever come over to her house, she'll spoil you with food and gifts. there will be a drama series playing on her tv as you two chat for hours. when you leave expect it to be about 8 hours after you arrived and for the walk home to be extremely heavy as she gives you 3 bags full of gifts and dried fruits and desserts.

On people taking their fic down to get it published as an original work: is it really THAT annoying, though? I feel fortunate that so many genuinely great writers choose to put their energy into writing fanfic for free. Seems a bit petty to get peeved off when one in a thousand (or less) decides to try and turn their novel-length fic into an actual novel that could jumpstart a writing career. I wish them good luck. Nothing wrong at all with trying to turn your hobby into something to help pay the bills. (Unless the author pulls some asshole behavior to go along with it, as has happened in some high-profile cases 🙄)

Also, as others have noted, taking the fic down is not really about "making the original readers pay to reread it." I think everyone understands that fic gets archived and someone who really wants to revisit the original fic will be able to dig it up. Filing off the serial #s and publishing is about trying to reach a totally new audience, and not necessarily one that overlaps much with fanfic readers.

(Very interested in your thoughts on all this as both a fic writer and pro author, OTNF.)

Yes, it's fucking annoying!

Workshop your pro novel at your writers' group where you're all aspiring authors mutually helping each other. Don't use fandom for that.

I don't think it's morally depraved or anything, but I do think it's tacky. I also think the resulting novel generally sucks.

If you can write one novel, you can write more than one novel.

Pulling to publish just feels weird to me, like the non-writer view where ideas are precious and rare. I'd understand better if it actually were about time and energy—the things truly in short supply for all creatives—but the revision process to turn a fic original takes a ton of time, and not taking that time results in a crummy product that's not going to launch a career on its own anyway. (And before someone says "Fifty Shades", that author's great talent is for marketing and self promo, skills many, many authors lack.)

I don't think it's about making the readers pay to reread at all, but I dislike the practice for other reasons. I wish them all the luck in the world trying to start a writing career, but I don't think this is the way to do it.

Even though I believe that Nettles should’ve had Addam’s part in the teaser (no shade to Addam but Nettles is more important and anticipated than him) I’m very optimistic their just fucking with us. Tons of other characters who are anticipated (alys, daeron, and cregan, jeyne arryn) weren’t there and characters who we know are returning in season 2 aren’t there (like rhaena and jace). As for Nettles allegedly being pushed back to season 3 I have mixed feelings. On one hand I’m very excited for her character and how’ll they’ll portray her so it’ll suck if they push her back, especially since Jace (who comes up with the idea for the dragonseeds) is going to die either late this season or early next season. I’ll definitely be pissed about it if the other dragonseeds are getting screen time and she’s no where to be seen. On the other hand there’s only eight episodes and I want a proper story arc. So if they need to (I don’t think they need to cause if they wanted to they could) push her back to give her that I guess I can’t do anything but wait. Because the last thing I want is for her story to be rushed or reduced to Daemons side piece. Thinking about it again damn that should’ve been Nettles in that trailer 🙄🫠. Hell at least we got an armored up Daemon and a warrior Baela as a consolation prize 😊

Yeah I’m still pissed because it should’ve been her, but yeah they did not feature any of the new characters besides him(still should’ve been Nettles she’s #1). It’s still just a teaser though.

Now if she’s actually been cut from the season that’s a big dummy move. Her arc should be top priority for the dragonseeds.

I mean how do you cut out/reduce the only surviving dragonseed who’s been in every single version of this story when others weren’t given the time of day?

How do you find the time to include everyone else and expand or change up character arcs yet there is no time for Nettles?

How do you single her out and push her story back to s3?

If you truly did not have the budget I can think of about 3-5 other characters they should’ve cut before her(Ulf White, Silver Denys, and that maid to name a few).

If you truly only had so much time you wouldn’t make up sh*t for Addam Velaryon, Hugh Hammer, and Diana the maid who doesn’t exist in the books.

Daemon and Baela were the best things about that trailer for me. Everything else was trash. I did enjoy seeing Alicent and Aemond, but it’s all trash.

- Food - I LOVE ice cream. Like live love laugh ice cream. Especially the one’s that they put in a cone at some cafes. The store bought one’s are alright, but nothing hits more than a fresh cone of ice cream while walking by the beach🔥 I honestly don’t understand people that prefer to eat it from those goofy ahh cups. Like who are you, some 72 year old british woman named Karen?😭

- Animal - umm I love mostly every animal. But dogs are probably my fave. I WOULD like cats more if I wasn’t allergic. Like, I’m used to dogs and was more interested in them as a kid because I just couldn’t interact with cats without getting itchy eyes and uncontrollably sneezing😭 I was like OBSESSED with dogs as a kid. That phase lasted until I was 10-11 years old. But cats are pretty cool too😼

- Colour - oof that must be a tough one. I’m not gonna be edgy and say something like black or white🙄 My fav colour has always been yellow. Although I don’t have that many coloured clothes. My fav fit is all brown😭 But brown IS a shade of yellow so…

- Song/group - ok so I’m really proud that I’ve been getting into lesserafilm because my new friend is also a kpop fan but she prefers gg, specifically lesserafilm, so I’m happy that I finally listened to some of their songs😭 I love “Impurities” and “Guardian” (lesserafilm). My second favourite group is ofc Skz. They made a LOT of 🔥 songs, but “Charmer”, “Domino”, “Surfin’ and “Megaverse” just make my nerves tingle. Enhypen is also one of my favorite groupsss. “Mortal”, “Fate”, “Chaconne”, “One In A Billion”, “Tamed-Dashed” and like a gazillion more😭. As for non-kpop… I really like “Sunflower<Post Malone>”, “Reflections<The Neighborhood>” , “Jenny from the block<Jennifer Lopez>”, most songs from Pastel Ghost’s album “Abyss” and lots of unpopular artists. I can honestly give you my spotify or sum.

You've called upon the wrath of your friend who loves Kristoph and knows a thing or two about character design, color theory and fashion. /hj /lh

This isn't to insult you or anything, I just accidentally took politely disagreeing with your opinion to the extreme by getting way too excited about all stuff I know relevant to this topic. I completely get how loafers could seem like a bad idea because yeah they usually are horrible and I personally hate loafers 90% of the time. They're ugly, impractical and hard to style. At least high heels make you look awesome while damaging your spine and legs 🙄🙄

Starting off simple, he's blonde and his suit is purple because those colors go very well together but because he's a calm character, the colors are muted and the only bright colors he's allowed is the ribbon. Thing. Around his neck. I'm not actually entirely sure if you'd call it that?

I don't think they'd make him anything other than blonde, I'd assume they designed Klavier first and were dead set on the Gavin brothers being blonde.

Anyway, his loafers. First off, I think the shape of the loafers compliments the rest of his design. He has wide shoulders, a double breasted suit that makes body appear more square than it likely is, and he always has his arms crossed. The loafers have a flat end that gives for a rectangular shape, which suits all the other squares and rectangles in his design.

The one way you could justify anything else, is pointed shoes saying that it'd match his hair, but the shoes are so far from the hair that making them match in shape would have his entire silhouette feel off.

The lapels don't count as a case for triangle motif because his suit needed realistic lapels no matter what (so that he wouldn't look like an idiot, he's a respected lawyer and can't dress in suits that aren't really suits, I sincerely doubt they wanted to make a silly looking inaccurate one for such an important character)

Okay, onto the color of the loafers.

Ok the off white isn't great, the fact that it's a different genre of off white from the lightest parts of his hair really pissed me off when I was drawing him

It's green tinted which I genuinely have no clue why they did that. Did they get possesed by an evil spirit? A demon? Were they drunk? Was it April 1st when they submitted the design but their boss mixed up the dates? Are they a prankster? Whatever it is, I think they suck.

I will say, the one redeeming quality is the shading. It's blue, which allows the non purple shoes to better blend in with the purple clothes. Here's how I'd personally change his shoes. Left is edit and right is original.

Just change the off white color to a desaturated lylac so that his design is more coherent and to draw attention away from his shoes.

Anyway again sorry this is not meant to be mean or offend you, I love you Iris you're a good friend, I just got really excited when you talked about Kristoph's clothes and I blacked out 💔💔

i want to preface this by saying that this is some genuinely good analysis of his outfit from the perspective of character design. it is and what im about to say does not take away from that.

however. youve seen the childrens hospital. you can have all the sensible design philosophy in the world and still look truly the worst and that is exactly what kristoph gavin does. colour theory will not save his suit.

Personally, I read the scene with the dress and stuff as intentional. Nesta needed to “stand out” I believe Mor comments something to the effect of Eris likes his women flashy or something?? They also chose to stick Nesta in something significantly more revealing than she’s accustomed to, to help facilitate this (again, if I recall correctly, Nesta actually requested something modest??)

Now, we all know that Elain is observant af. I just assumed Elain overheard or the information was repeated in her presence or something, and she dressed (how she perceived to be) accordingly for the situation. I’ve even thought that perhaps even Mor approached her, informed her of the situation and suggested it. (Idk tho, that was just a little idea I had regarding it, bc I can’t actually imagine Morrigan or Feyre letting Elain leave the house looking “plain”. That’s actually mean girl behaviour, and I just don’t picture them not saying something unless it was intentional, ya know? 🧐)

Furthermore. Nesta (aside from leathers) rarely wears black? Mor never wears black in or outside of the Hewn city, Amren also never wears black?? Black universally suits everyone. It’s a staple colour in every wardrobe and cupboard world wide. So, I do kinda struggle to suspend my disbelief that it’s the colour “sucking the life” out of Elain, as opposed to the viscous cruelty of the hewn city — that everyone should frankly be upset by (let’s not forget that Amarantha moulded UTM after the court of nightmares. And it was a poor imitation according to Rhys..And that Elain no doubt saw and heard people being tortured in the Hybern camp after her abduction, so CoN antics are no doubt particularly upsetting and triggering) and being swallowed by a frumpy dress. 🤷🏼‍♀️

What I’d personally like to see, is a return to the CoN (which we will no doubt get, bc what’s an Acotar book without going to the CoN and dressing up all extra hot and sexy? 😂) and Elain looking absolutely stunning in black, “devastatingly beautiful” and rendering everyone speechless. WELL. obvs her inspiration is Cerberus. First thing was her sense of loyalty and duty, that of a guard with a task that takes all eternity to fulfill.

She was a sorta foil for Idia, specially with her starting at Ignihyde but holding traditional values. Pretty sure from the start I wanted to play around Vero being neither fully Cerberus (loyal dog with a lord) or Persephone (Idia's sweetheart bound by fate). I like them best as being connected by fate platonically tbh. Vero was someone who resented Idia being above her despite her being more capable, the injustice of fate being decided before they were born, and all her accomplishments being unable to surpass that. Now that she's in Ryxabyss her chapter is very much about her surpassing those limits, refusing to bow to not to Idia (who frankly never saw her below him anyways) but Olympus as a whole. Using chaos to establish a new rule.

🙉 HEAR-NO-EVIL - what is the worse thing your oc could hear from someone?

That anyone she cares about has died. She's been surrounded by death since she was born, and knows it'll happen one day, but any preparation pales to real life. After all, she does technically have the power to bring them back. She could. But she mustn't. It's a new layer of grief.

Having a depressed man use your time and energy to feel better and then when he's recovered ignoring you is not that uncommon 💀

So first thing was that I REALLY didn't want to make her the topical yandere japanese highschool girl like. come on. 🙄 So I decided she's not yandere, she has justified yet excessive anger issues. Her "sweet facade" is just trying to pass as normal, so people don't gossip about her. Not "I want to kill you because I love you" but "I want to kill you because you don't even think I'm capable of love, of grief, of being hurt."

Awe, Thank You 😭. Again Oli I'm sorry the post was so long. But when I deep dive I go all in. I definitely understand you, as you're a Scorpio sun with a Sagittarius venus, you are okay with a man who is a bit (and I mean just a small bit) clingy with you. For my favorite season, spring, I think Jamie is a really good fit! 💖💖💖 To me, spring is all about life coming back after winter, and in the same way, Jamie is so vibrant and full of life despite growing up in an environment that basically wanted him and everything else in it DEAD. Plus, you can't tell me that the bright beautiful colors we associate with spring don't also match his colorful personality super well too! 🥺💖💖💖💖 (Also when it comes to assigning myself a holiday, this is the one I'd go with!)
