5 Things I enjoy writing about

1.) Historical settings. Since I began developing characters of my own, I have never once had the desire to have a modern setting. Maybe it's because I write fantasy and the two genres go hand-in-hand. But nothing is more fun than researching for historical accuracy!

2.) Diverse characters. The most fun thing about my setting being the afterlife, is that it is naturally culturally diverse. Everyone on Earth has to go somewhere lmao. I try my best to represent different walks of life. I especially love writing LGBT+ characters.

3.) Is it safe to say I enjoy writing about demons? When you grow up as a closeted queer Catholic, you have to channel your religious trauma/Catholic guilt somehow. My take on heaven and hell definitely is a result of my upbringing and how I feel as a queer person in Christian spaces. There's something fun about the underdog, the one they tried to put down, turning the situation on its head and making it into something powerful. Building a community of those that heaven has deemed 'not worthy' and finding strength and support in like-minded people.

Of course, writing demons also lends itself to getting to write magic and such, which is really fun when it comes to thinking about combat in hell.

4.) VILLAINS. I. Love. Villains. Maybe because I'm the most gentle, non-confrontational, people-pleasing person and they are the EXACT opposite of me. Or maybe just because it's fun lmao. I can confirm that everyone's favorite characters are always my villains. Hell, our entire server is named after one. The fun thing about writing villainous demons is that I get to go all out. Like...these are real demons. Over the top, hedonistic, sadistic, manipulative bastards. Having my villains be such a genuine threat to our protags, it makes for really interesting character development and easy plot progression. Also they're hot so that's fun :D

5.) Trauma. The main theme of my writing and my characters is trauma and one's response to trauma. This is definitely where I tend to project my own traumas as a means to conceptualize and cope with them. But I still enjoy exploring how one's environments, upbringing, and life events affect them, and how they cope. Despite going through multiple traumas, someone like Sidonai has a strong support system, so he's become more resilient and copes in healthier ways. While someone like Asmodeus, who suffered major loss, had no support and shut down, letting the trauma consume and destroy him. Their traumas and subsequent responses inform me about how they will react to different situations, how they interact with each other, how they see the world.

#i wrote 666 words today (lol). they aren't good words. but they're words #the way this programme allows me to spew my thoughts on different subjects onto a page without having to scroll through a document #im super bad at just. putting my thoughts onto a page bc im a huge perfectionist #but being able to jump around the different sections of my introduction is such a good way to help with that #i have a Thought about theatre life? i can jump to the section and write some words w/o being distracted by other shit #need to go back and add something crucial that just occurred to me to my historical context? can just switch writing tabs in the binder #the overview and structure! this provides! #and you don't end up with a document full of words where you have no idea what you wanted to edit and what to throw away #can just take it one section at a time #curry rambles #i still need to buy it lol i keep forgetting. before the trial runs out.

16 for fanfic asks!

16. Do you have that one fanfic that you wrote a ton for, ages ago, but never posted? Will this be the year, come hell or high water, that it WILL get finished and posted? I wouldn't call it "ages" because it was just last year lol but it was definitely something I wrote a "ton" of... So from end of April to end of July last year I did pretty much nothing but work on a self-indulgent fic for the movie Animal House, wherein I got to write one of my very first ever slash ships Actually Getting Together post-movie (tangentially: I look at this ship and am like oh God they are definitely a blueprint for the "type" of ship I gravitate towards). I ended up writing 40k in 3 months (actually a bit more if I consider how much is in the "extra" doc, of lines/scenes I cut). My "feel" for it is that it should be around 50k when it's done and I am very much determined to knock out that 10k~ at some point this year so I can post this fic - so I can have the fic that the Leanne from 20 years ago would have wanted to read. (Yes these are all the same game. I know I've shipped plenty of things in the past but none of it feels like it hit quite as hard as this stupid game)

Felix/Annette (FE3H): These two are genuinely changed my brain chemistry. It was the ship that brought me into the FE3H fandom, it was the ship that got me writing fan fiction again. It was the ship that gave me so many wonderful mutuals in this space and I love them for it! They are the perfect grump/sunshine ship, but they also have so much genuine connection that I feel like they were just written for each other. I love Annette bringing out the softness in Felix, and I love Felix being so head over heels for Annette that he has no idea what it is or how to deal with it.

Sylvain/Ingrid (FE3H): My perfect angsty pair 💕 This one fell into place so naturally for me that I genuinely can't see either of them with anyone else. And I've tried because there are fun options! I know there's a lot of baggage there, but I genuinely feel like Sylvain has just been in love with Ingrid for his entire life even when she was engaged. And I also have a lot of feelings about that but I'd be rambling. But what can I say! I am a sucker for childhood friends to lovers! I'm a sucker for Sylvain wanting to be a better person and feeling guilty about what he put her through cleaning up after his shit! I'm a sucker for him being a bumbling idiot around people he's crushing on!

Ashe/Marianne (FE3H): Two fairytale princesses that deserve their happy ending✨ I think I've said it before, but I started shipping these two by accident when I was writing a set of one-shots. I needed someone to pair with Ashe and no one had really jumped out at me my first playthrough. When I looked up a list of his supports I was like "oh I like Marianne, maybe that would be cute". And now here we are: five chapters into a love-letter to their gentle, loving relationship that has spiraled into a character study on Ashe with plans for a sequel that will go further into Marianne's backstory. Someone help 🙃

I weirdly haven't watched a single movie in over a year, but last week I got a sudden urge and watched three. The last one was Pride & Prejudice (2005). Like a true fan-fiction obsessed girly. It was great.

Sims 4 youtube videos. More specifically a Plumbella video where she plays only the highest rated packs. If there's one thing about me it's that I love watching other people play video games ✌️

"25 Icelandic Ghost Stories" by Jón R. Hjálmarsson. My friend brought it back for me from her trip there. I love ghost stories! And anything folklore related.

Favorite title: Throbbing Black Bruises (inspired by lyrics from Thermodynamic Lawyer by Will Wood)

Favorite Comment: Kozaru, on Smoked Down to the Filter: “This was such a wonderful read, it started off so cute and the angst at the end hit me like a truck. I was really moved, the whole ending sequence is so heartbreaking and real. I love how you wrote Linhardt, and it’s always nice to see asexual representation, especially one so well written. Thank you so much for sharing! I’m very curious about the second chapter (but absolutely take all the time you need to finish it)!”

Work you enjoyed writing the most: Nursed: First off, its my OTP, merceleth, which I not only love very much, but have been wanting to write a Big Proper fic for, basically since I started writing fic. I also finally wrote something for my Professor Mercedes AU, which I’ve had forever. But mainly, this is the first multi-chapter/the longest fic I’ve written, and I really enjoyed writing a grander story than I have in the past. I was as self indulgent as possible. So yeah, writing this fic was one of my favorite things I did this year.

What you hope to write in 2023: I want to write Smoked Down to the Filter Chapter 2 this year so it isn’t left unfinished. I might get possessed by Prof. AU merceleth again, flesh out that dynamic and history. Other than fic, I plan to write my OC story next year!

Some are just dialogue, some are cut up scenes that still need to be reorganized. Still, I'll share from three WIPs here for fun.

Still working on the Astarion ate a bear conversation WIP:

Astarion had been hunting for some time, and he returned with the most graceless approach, tripping over a cauldron at Lae’zel’s tent with his arms stretched wide as if he’d been meaning to keep track of his steps. “Stay out of my things, darkling!” Lae’zel shouted, interrupting her conversation where Astarion might have otherwise been ignored. “With pleasure, gith,” Astarion said, laying one hand on his unbeating heart and stretching the other out overhead. “Alright, Astarion?” asked Shadowheart, eyebrows raised. “All the better,” Astarion’s words danced with the cadence of an elf who was far further into his cups than either Étoile or Shadowheart, “that you’re concerned for me, my sweet.” Shadowheart made a noise that was somewhere between a laugh and a groan as she objected. “Don’t misunderstand. I’m only worried that you’d return from your hunt with some contagion. These caves are riddled with stagnation and rot.” “Just like home,” Astarion exaggerated, arms spread wide again, hands flicked skyward. He quickly followed it up with a laugh that had the teensiest hiccough in it, lending to his inebriated air.

I started working on a WIP of Wyll writing poetry with Gale's encouragement for the prompt Modern AU for wyllweek but I psyched myself out so it is also still a WIP. Background Gale x my dragonborn Upton:

Wyll: [stating the obvious as Gale has a pen and notepad] Working on something? Gale: Mm. Well, just another gift for the dragon of my heart, as it were. There's few enough rhymes for bronze that I definitely need to pick up a pen when inspiration strikes. Wyll: How do you decide which gifts are worth giving? Gale: Now there's a telling anxiety if I ever heard one. If there's a possibility your audience is going to be disrespectful of the efforts you make, and your heart on your sleeve, Wyll Ravengard, then they don't deserve you. That said, poetry is as much about the audience and the medium as it is about the quality. I know that whatever I scribble down … Upton appreciates that I was thinking of them. The rest is imagined, I suppose I could talk to them about it — how I consider each syllable, and each revolving turn of phrase, with the hope that I can bring them new joy, that the maze around my heart, no more navigable by my manner of elocution, might be more manageable to them. They are celebrations of our bond, their love, their beauty, but they are also pleas of affection, calls to understanding, expressions of vulnerability. And those are harder to share when you put more of yourself in your writing, or when you can't trust those emotions to be well received — even when they are, the way people can misread intent or metaphor, or latch onto some throwaway sentiment you thought to include — it's hard, to write and to share, not even considering the technicalities and imagination of the hobby. Do you keep a journal? Wyll: No. I read and I can recite some poetry, but … I didn't— I didn't keep a journal while I was backpacking, though maybe I should have. I— I'm not thinking of writing for love, or to share with anyone. Maybe someday, but … The world has such vibrancy in it. I'm not a bard, but I'd think I prefer it through a poet's lens sometimes. Gale: As one should. There's a dreamer in all of us, and poetry has connected people to history, to culture, to themselves and to each other — since time immemorial. You needn't worry about sharing it with anyone, but those connections are always open to you. And it may be a tad hypocritical, having never shared my own work, but I'd love to read your poetry, if you're in need of an audience. Wyll: No, no, no. You don't get out of showing me yours by asking for mine. Not when you have the advantage of experience— Gale: Oooo. That may be the politest way I've been called old, but it still stings [holding his heart] right here. Upton: [sitting on the arm of Gale's chair] Wyll called you old? Gale: [standing so Upton can take up most of the chair's real estate] He said I had the benefit— Wyll: Advantage. Gale: [sitting in Upton's lap] The advantage of experience. Wyll: [in his own defense] In regards to poetry. Upton: [delighted, leaning around Gale so he almost falls over] Are you going to write inexperienced poetry, Wyll?

And I'll share a very little bit of my The Pale Elf vs Cazador fight rewrite WIP:

Astarion: You don't love anything. Cazador: Do you not know the meaning of the word sacrifice? One eats an apple and thinks nothing of it, a fruit made to be consumed. But what of eating a friend, a lover, a son. You were made to be sacrificed, but my love was no less true for my role in your extermination. Astarion: Fuck you. And fuck everything you ever did to me. Cazador: You are my spawn, you are my family, and you came home like a good little apple when it was time for harvest.

While it might just be bad and cheesy I like the idea of Cazador likening Astarion to being worth more to him than nothing only to immediately refute that in the next sentence from his mouth. He should have been a man of twisted love and contradictions imo, not blindly evil.

Favorite Comment: SO MANY KIND COMMENTS i am browsing through my inbox and feeling the glow of happiness fill me. shoutout to the people who binged my angsty lambrigue and crescendo. shoutout to the person who admitted to being unsure about the Divorce AU but read it anyway and found my sense of drama compelling. friends screaming along with me as i wrote or picking out the lines they (and i) loved best. Love and admiration and gratitude to everyone who left a comment, and helped build up my confidence and ability and drive. thank you to everyone who commented with love for my oc's. thank you to all the comments and kudos!

Work you enjoyed writing the most: aaaaaa if it's not fun to write i generally Won't Write it, so you can be sure that i loved every word. however. strangely. inexplicably. i super enjoyed writing the spider!felicity meet-cute fic that literally no one wants. An Adrestian's Guide to Faerghan Courting Traditions was also super fun.

What you hope to write in 2023: i would love to write the final chapter and epilogue fic of Crescendo, and along with that the 3rd chapter of the rodrigue and annette supports. miiight not happen, but it's on the Resolution list. Finishing the Eh-U would be nice. Basically going to keep on keeping on and write what speaks to me. ALSO going to revise my NaNoWriMo novel and hopefully publish it, so keep a weather eye out and feel free to send me reminders to get to work on that askjgh but not until January!

Self indulgence. I love just writing my blorbos doing whatever, I'm a fan of writing by blorbos watching the stars together, or the sunset

Exploring what does happen in canon. Stuff that goes unexplained or left deliberately mysterious, or stuff that doesn't go on in the background

Creating a story, simple as that! I've loved creating stories ever since I was small. I took a long hiatus after finding fanfiction for the first time because cringe culture and not living up to expectations was really getting to me, so I never wrote again. I started writing again in 2020, and I've overcome many obstacles to be here now <3 I almost stopped writing again entirely

It's fun to share your creations with friends, this also goes for art! I love sharing my creations with friends and read and adore theirs in return!! It's a special point of connection for me, and how I've met some of my closest and best friends

Cuz it's fun! Gives me something to do and work towards! <3
