Beleg and Mablung were laying together in the grass beneath the stars. A quiet moment for them. One of those rare moments where they could be found in the same place at the same time.
Beleg had rested his head on Mablung's chest, closing his eyes and letting the strong heartbeat lull him. "Your heartbeat is very loud."
"Is it?" Mablung asked him.
"Yes." Beleg replied. "But I like it. It makes this moment all the more real. A reminder of your solid presence. It's nice."
Mablung smiled, even if Beleg could not see him do so. "It might also be because I am happy. Content in a way I had not been in a very long while."
"Truly? How so?"
"Because you are here. Because you are with me."
Mablung's words were spoken in a tone so soft, that had Beleg not been an elf and his hearing not been as sharp as it was, he would have missed it. But he did not missed the way Mablung's heart sped up, and that gave him the meaning behind his longtime friend's words. He smiled. "I am content too, here, by your side Mablung. You make me happy."
"And you make me happy, Beleg. Because I have fallen in love with you. And being away from you is... hard. I understand our duties to Doriath, its people and our monarchs, but I am greedy and I wish I did not have to part from you."
Beleg smiled, "And I have fallen for you also, Mablung. And I want you to know that you have my heart and soul. Forever."

Beleg had no time to react, one moment he was trying to hunt with a spear in the river, the next he was being lifted in someone’s arms.
When he looked to see who it was, he was not surprised to find Mablung scowling at him. He arched a brow.
Mablung scowled, and when he spoke, his voice was clearly annoyed, “One of these days, you will get yourself killed Cúthalion.”
“I will not, I knew what I was doing.”
Mablung snorted, “Of course, never mind that the river is too fast and the rocks are completely slippery and you are barefoot. You could have fallen and broken your neck, or drowned. Why must you make me worry so much?”
He kissed Mablung’s cheek. “How do you cope when I’m away, then?”
“Simple,” Mablung said. “I know what our duties entail. I can make peace with knowing one of us or both die defending Doriath. But you are a walking hazard who seemingly enjoys making me worry needlessly. Perhaps one day, I’ll have my hair turn silver out of pure worry for you.”
He sighed, he knew that Mablung was right. “I know Mablung, and for what it is worth, I am sorry. I should have told you. Invited you even, we could have had a nice day fishing.”
“I could still not have been able to come,” Mablung said honestly. “Our Lord wanted to know how the everything was at the border. But he has given me two weeks of rest. He says I need them.”
“That is magnificent!” He beamed. “I have a week left off, we could simply spend time together, just enjoying each other’s company.”
Mablung smiled at him, “Absolutely. That sounds like a good plan. Also, our Lord gifted me a bottle of wine of his choice, which means, that will be a fantastic one.”
“The Valar keep our Lord.” He said with a smile. Then, he arched a brow, “Mablung, I must ask, do I even weight anything to you?”
“No, it is like lifting a fruit.”
He could not help it, he laughed.
