I wanted to put out a post asking if there are any black nonverbal or deaf/HoH people who use BASL who would be willing to consult on an animation project?
My junior year of art school starts this fall, and I will begin working of my junior-senior thesis 3D animation, where the main character is a black nonbinary person who, in the beginning and ending scenes, is seen communicating with sign language. I am white and more-or-less abled-hearing (I have Auditory Processing Disorder but I don’t know if that counts), but I know there are differences between ASL and BASL, and I wanted to have a lot of sensitivity around using this dialect accurately and respectfully.
The consultation would involve taking videos of your hands as you sign the ‘dialogue’ I have written, which would then be used as a reference in the 3D animation. I am a relatively broke student but I am willing to pay for your consultation. Please DM me if you’re interested!
Note: I apologize in advance if I have mistakenly used any offensive terms in this post, I tried to do a lot of research but I’m sure I have shortcomings and gaps in my knowledge.

his, this is a fun little informational post! if you are writing a character that is a) ADHD(-coded) and b) clumsy, consider looking into
dyspraxia
also known as developmental coordination disorder, dyspraxia is a motor control and spatial awareness disorder that is HIGHLY comorbid with adhd. it can manifest as early as one year old, delaying a lot of the expected milestones in babies. beyond physical effects, dyspraxic people often struggle with ordering tasks in their brain, memory, and speech (but that one can be a combination of the ordering things AND the motor control). for the FIFTY PERCENT of dyspraxic people with adhd, these symptoms often are tied to the dopamine deficiency- i personally am clumsier when im sad or overwhelmed or understimulated (tonight i spilled flan juice in my crocs and then when i was walking home it was wet and sticky and awful and logically i knew if i walked faster i could get home and solve it but i physically couldn't move faster because the distress was aggravating my dyspraxia and so i had to focus very hard on Walking and not Falling) here are some things my dyspraxia makes me struggle with that I would love to see in characters like this!
handwriting! i basically can't do it at all, but for other it could be messy or a task they have to focus on
biking! balance is no bueno.
driving a car! a lot of dyspraxics don't have the spatial awareness to know where the car is
in the same vein: shopping carts.
holding things! i forget I'm holding them and then i let go unconsciously
knowing how big things are. I used to think cop shows were lying about people knowing how tall criminals were. now I have nightmares about witnessing a crime and being like "uhh. talller than me?" i also frequently pick a container that's way too big or way too small for the stuff I'm storing.
lefts and right! i still gotta do the finger L's.
another common things with dyspraxia is fatigue. we are putting more physical effort into the same tasks than non-dyspraxics. it's tiring, y'all.
if you have any questions, feel free to ask me! other dyspraxics, feel free to add on things that would make you feel Seen.

Hi Elliot! I'm wondering what your stance is on consulting for the creative projects of others? I have average height friends, for example, who would love to have a Little Person as a sensitivity reader for future scripts, and of course I thought of you.
Hello! I'm actually working on a sensativity read on a fantasy novel in the works right now!
If anyone is looking for sensitivity reads, please reach out! I am happy to do them for a commission!!

incoming rant about accents in writing
i am begging mario fanfic writers to stop adding -a to every other word that Mario and Luigi say. we know they have an accent. you don't have to spell it out. it legitimately pulls me out of the story every single time and i have to stop and breathe for a sec before i can keep going while trying to ignore it.
maybe describe their accents instead?? I would much rather read "a lilting and musical cadence" once than "don't-a you think-a so" every time they have dialogue.
believe me when i say this is a criticism coming from a place of love. i know we all grew up reading jk terf's awful transcriptions of french and cockney accents, but I know we can move past that behavior. it takes so much less effort to just write the words normally.
and this goes for any character with an accent in any work, tbh. I'm pretty sure anyone with an obviously-foreign accent is already self-conscious about it enough; there's no need to laser-focus on an accent like that in writing. you may not be doing it to intentionally mock anybody but to me it very much comes off that these characters are not taken seriously, because it so blatantly points out their difference in speech, and that's usually the first thing an immigrant is mocked for.

Are there any transmasc Duck fans reading this who would be willing to be a sensitivity reader for a fic I’m planning to write within the next couple of months?
Scrooge isn’t the POV nor main character, and him being trans isn’t the main plot, but his transition is an important subplot that affects the story.
I’m not trans and I don’t want to get anything wrong so I’d like some additional insight to make the representation more authentic.
I will credit you wherever I post the fic. I am also willing to compensate you with money.
Anyway, if you’re interested, you can comment on this post or reblog it, or send me an ask or message me, whatever you’re comfortable with. Then we can discuss further details and arrangements.

I have been writing a character who I think is aplatonic, do you have any blogs you know of that are known for sensitivity reading for aplatonics? Or are you aware of any blogs that share writing tips for characters who are aplatonic and the blog owners are aplatonic? Also, out of pure respect and curiousity, what would you like to see the most in an aplatonic character?
I personally don’t know of any blogs that do sensitivity reading for aplatonic characters. I personally might be willing to do it, but it really depends on how much energy it would take. I don’t have infinite time. Any blogs that would be willing to do this, please comment or reblog.
As for what I would like to see in an aplatonic character:
A character that isn’t “fixed” by the end of the story A character who is shown as a full and complete person regardless of what relationships they have A story that actually uses the word “aplatonic” instead of just the character being a loner and stuff
Anyone else with suggestions can share them!

Sensitivity reader(s) needed!
Hi friends, I'm in desperate need of a sensitivity reader or five for the next novel on my editing docket. I'm looking for readers who are:
South African, preferably Coloured. To be highly specific, if you know a gay Coloured man from Cape Town who would be interested in reading, please send them my way.
Hawaiian, preferably Native Hawaiian. This character is also a gay man.
Novel details: currently 88.9k words, contemporary m/m romance, "open door" sex scenes.
I would really really appreciate any signal boosting! Thanks in advance!

Actually im gonna make this it's own post: Would anyone be interested in joining a volunteer sensitivity reading and/or "expert" opinion sharing discord server for indie writers, fanfic authors, and character designers? Or does anyone know of a good one to join? Specifically for projects that probably will not make money and therefore can't pay for professional sensitivity readers.

'Sup fam! I'm about to ask for something I've never done before but I need to double check something I comment on in the upcoming video and I want to make sure if I'm overthinking something or not.
I've already let know I'm talking about "My Adventures with Superman" next over on youtube, so that's not a spoiler or anything.
Would it be possible please if someone could act as a sensitivity checker on something for me? Specifically someone American who is a Person of Colour or black. As this is so far removed from my culture and it would be best to double check with someone more familiar than I am with a trend I am noticing in how certain characters are written.
It's not upsetting or controversial, I just want to check if I am overthinking something and it's not actually a big deal which means I will edit it out of the script, or if it's something that might be worth bringing very briefly in passing. The final call will still be mine, but extra info would be a good idea.
It's very small, but I want to be sure before I say something stupid.
Hit me up in the tumblr IM! thanks! 💖

hello writers of tumblr!
yesterday i finished off my first ever original manuscript (cue confetti), and today i am looking for people to make it less rubbish (ie beta readers)! my story contains cool scifi vibes, cringey gay romance, found family and in some places even my awful 14-year old writing skills (i started this a while ago please dont judge,,) and has gotten rave reviews such as:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
my main problem here is that i am almost completely broke and i cannot afford to pay anyone, however i am willing to beta read your work or make art of your characters in return for your honest opinion on starship (this is a placeholder title btw)! dm me if any of this sounds like something you might want to do, im happy to read fanfic and pretty much anything that's not 18+. thanks in advance!
i would also love some extra sensitivity readers for this project (mainly from the Deaf community, ive done my best to research and talk with as many people as i can find but i really want to portray my character accurately, so any extra viewpoints would really help!) again, i probably can't pay you in real money but id be happy to do art and beta reading, same as above ^

Queer Chinese Sensitivity Readers Needed!
Hi! I'm in my senior year of Animation and for my thesis film I have three characters who are Huli-Jings. This is. Found family WLW story <3
I would be sending you sketches and designs and hear your feedback, thoughts and ideas on them! Of the three, one of them is the mother and she falls in love with a human woman, a farmer. I know typically sensitivity readers work for written pieces of art and since this is visual/animated, I'd be more than happy to discuss your compensation/credit if you're interested!
This would be my first time working with a sensitivity reader so I WILL be open and communicative and even update you the progress of the film if you want to see it! :)! I can't take on too many as a college student as my funds are limited and I have also reached out on other platforms.
Naturally, your name/social media tag (or both) with be in the credits. I could even add your information if you like more business as well!
Feel free to respond to this post or message me privately.
Thank you!!
