Completing career placement over the kiosk as a customer service representative at YYZ, terminal#3 with Cathay Pacific Airways has provided a fantastic experience and feeling.
Technically, it is my second week working as a customer service representative at Toronto Pearson International Airport. It is an excellent opportunity to grow my knowledge and experience in the workplace with such a successful and popular airline as Cathay Pacific.
There are many passengers every day who are looking for their boarding passes and bag tags by the kiosk and our job is to handle with them.
Let’s have an in-depth look at various classes of tickets in CX airline. It breaks down into by Economy, which has three subsequences;
light, essential, flexi
Premium Economy,
Business class
And it’s good to know that Cathay Pacific Airways is a Part of One world alliance with memberships like Emaraled, diomond, gold, silver, Ruby.
According to transport Canada and based on the Cathay Pacific policy and regulation each passenger in Economy light class is allowed to have one piece of checked bag no more than 23 Kilograms and also can have one hand bag and one cabin bag no exceeding than 7 kilograms in total. However, all passengers in premium economy and essential and flexi economy + business class can carry 2 checked bags and 2 pieces of cabin bags with the weight limit of 15 kilograms.
Here is my scenarios with two passengers who were traveling to Hong Kong while one of them had a luggage with broken handles at two sides and I had an issue to place the tag on his bag which has only one strap around it that looks firm enough to be tagged on. Anyway, I tagged it and sent him to the drop bag counter and I just reported his bag with that condition at the counter.
Another passenger was a young student who wanted to check her carry 0n through the kiosk. I took her a bag tag and stuck it on the carry-on’s hand, but I missed checking another side of the bag, which already had an old tag. I usually check the bags for any old tags to be removed before they get the new ones, but I forgot to check about this one, and it caused me a notice and reminder from the manager on duty. So, every day is a new experience and learning new things. “Never stop learning since life never stops teaching. “😊🌹

Here comes the first day of my internship # The training day.
I imagined my first day to be extremely exciting and it indeed was. This time we had two intakes for the students who got their placement with WestJet. We had to complete 150 hours within 2 months and I was in intake B. In total we were 7 students from Seneca College who were going to do placement hours in intake B which likely means in March and April.
Our day started at Starbucks. Haha sounds funny I know but we just gathered there because it was easy to find Starbucks rather than getting lost and late at the YYZ. So thoughtful of our learning coordinator Kamila. After that Kami took us to the team room of WestJet employees where we hung our overcoats, secured our stuff and boom let’s get started.
Kami gave us the tour of airport. We went at different places all over the airport. Most exciting was the window from where we could see airside. I could see different airplanes taking off and landing. Since childhood aircrafts have been a factor of fascination for me. I didn’t wanted to go away from that view but I had to🥺.
We went to the arrivals level of terminal 3, pet relief areas and evacuation areas. Then comes time for break. We grabbed our coffees, had meal, chit chatted with my fellow mates. Afterwards we went to presentation room where we read about the history and journey of ABC airline to WestJet. That was the best time of the day. First reason we sat on chairs for it as were badly tired and second we were distributed our lanyards and scarfs. We signed our insurance forms.
Tumblr media
I can’t describe that feeling but it was way too optimistic. I saw my career having a kickstart.
Then we went to WestJet Workspace. Kami told us about baggage tags and kiosks. We assisted the passengers for 2-3 hours and then we were done with our training. It was exciting but tiring on our feet. Before leaving we had a photograph together and then we left for our houses.😁

Week 7 START UP VENTURE PROGRESS
here I will share a little about how the start up of my micro-business is currently going
what is working & is not working
IS:
finding wood for my signs that is recycled rather than bought new creating a more affordable price point for my customer base and creating a solid marketing strategy for "environmental sustainability"
getting the word out in the community that I will be attending the vendor blenders and craft sales in the community in the near future utilizing social media and my current connections as a known face in the community as a business leader
ensuring that I post sneak peaks; targeting my customers and getting people excited about my products
using materials that are affordable example paint and stencils that will last but wont break the bank ( dollarama in Kenora is a life safer; i made a larger investment in supplies initially to avoid multiple trips as we don't have a dollarama here)
planning and execution
IS NOT
well you see i come by it honestly; but i am horrible about procrastination and leaving thigs to the last minute and then basically whipping it all out last minute SOME HOW; this is one trait of my ADHD that continues to get worse the older I get
soooo
finding time to make the signs for my upcoming vendor has been challenging around part time school, full time work running a business and full time single mumming
i underestimated the interest i would have from the get go so i feel that my initial predictions for what i need to produce are inaccurate and i do not want to have the reputation for selling out and then disappointed customers that come to see me
reminding myself quality over quantity; and making sure to set aside a bit of time every day to work on my products
how do you feel the project is coming?
i feel that my project is coming along nicely; i have always been complimented on the decor in my home and people are telling me theyd buy my things so now that i am venturing out i believe that i will be successful in sharing my passion with the world. I also am learning to make sure not to overinvest from the get go; i dont want to dump too much into the business until i start generating some revenue but i also want to have selection so learning to find that healthy balance is essential. I feel pretty confident about people accepting me into the small business community in my town and am excited to share something i truly enjoy doing in my free time.
what are you learning about running a business?
i am learning so much about running a business; and i find it extremely unique that i can take some things that i already know about running a large scale business and adjust to my micro-business so that i can make the most profit possible
i have learned that small business's are a Nickle and dime game and every dollar counts especially when starting out; combating this by reusing paint brushes, ensuring caps are on my paints and cans, using less paint more often when putting multiple colors out on my palette are all cost saving things i am applying now that i am transitioning from a craft for myself mindset to a craft for a business mindset
i am learning that it can be a lot of fun but its also alot of work and there really are obstacles around every corner
what are you learning about yourself?
i am learning that i need to work harder to overcome my struggles with time management; however this is something i already knew
i am learning that although i currently run a business for someone else its very fulfilling starting and running a business for myself
i am learning that its extremely fulfilling when your passionate about the things your selling in your business
i am reminding myself that i am not perfect and learning that i will always face things that are discouraging but its important not to give up on your dreams

hi i'm wong yuhing
but u can just call me yu (please please PLEASE)
this post will double as my accepted portfolio btw but uh hi
i'm an animation student at seneca college (1st year as of posting) and i decided to make this to log my progress because um, yes.
im like really bad at communicating (like. awful) so i hope you don’t mind (your honor, i plead anxiety)
anyway. portfolio. here u are (almost everything is hand-drawn)
hand drawings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
you have no idea how long it took to learn the anatomical parts of the hand. i learned how knuckles were formed
they will teach you this in 1st semester life drawing. the construction of bones in the body, that is. you will finally learn where the metacarpals and are how to get carpal tunnel
i kind of don’t know what else to say
interior drawings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
okay i actually do know what to say and it’s that perspective is king. obviously yes it needs to be yknow. a bedroom. with stuff in it. but what they’re looking for is not detail, it’s perspective. if you have a lot of stuff but your perspective is all wrong, that’s not it
like are these lines all going to a vanishing point? are all these objects and furniture sized to scale? that’s what they are looking for, and you will learn Interior Layout Made Easy(TM) in 1st sem. exterior and nature scenes is a 2nd sem thing (and also what i am working on as of posting lol).
it took so many tries to make this bedroom look nice… and they aren’t even from opposite corners lmAO
object drawings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also a structural thing, which you actually learn in layout in 1st sem. actually you can boil down every single object in existence to a series of either a rectangular prism or a cylinder and i am not joking
is this object structurally sound? does the object have form, does it adhere to the vanishing points (that are realistically super far apart)? stuff like that
draw any one object per day i promise you it’s an amazing structural exercise. im SO serious.
figure drawings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
idk if you should be asking me about figure drawings i barely got out of 1st sem with my life and a 60 but yeah i don’t think they care what kind of figures they are (like 1m gestures, or 20m poses). the ones i drew were both 15m but uh.
for gestures as you may know. they want the gesture. course it had to be relatively proportionate but they want the life in life drawing. movement, form! good line quality! which you will all learn in 1st sem and actually form is a big thing in 2nd sem too.
also by the end you will be able to know every single bone in the body, you will know where the greater tricantor is and how to draw a pelvis.
but please don’t ask me about life drawing i barely survived that class
personal art
Tumblr media Tumblr media
wow i hit the photo limit hooray! anyway, i did yet another interior design. why? im gonna be fr w u i just really like drawing backgrounds LOL- of course it’s messed up in all the wrong places but you will know how to fix this in 1st sem. they teach you all the fundies in 1st sem
my other was character design and tbh i cooked up smth random and let it sit. it’s also my only digital piece. really wish i added color but i was on a time crunch at the time.
o by the way you will also learn how to color and render in 2nd sem, i have a 73 in that class idk how i’m still alive.
so yeah that’s my accepted portfolio yayyyy!!!
your honor i plead neurodivergency i don’t know how to end a tumblr post

I got to tell you something about the professor, Heather Goode; the truth is...
She's not exactly and not actually the nicest nor the friendliest person I've ever met.
Someone whom I don't like or especially don't want to talk to and am afraid of.
She's rude, she's apathetic, she's corrupt, the strictest most unforgiving person ever.
With her rather impatient firm ways, she treats me unfairly, and she grades me unfairly.
The most interrogating and reprimanding teacher I've ever had with(in) this semester.
Even despite my academic performances, she never accepts or appreciates nothing.
Therefore, she has a complete lack of, as well as incapacity and zero regard for my steady improvement.
She's always victimizing and scapegoating me for things I'm not and things I didn't mean to do.
She doesn't even care enough to admit that I'm growing and learning a little more each day.
She on the other hand is just trying to deliberately destroy the fact that I'm a cautious thinker.
I know I'm not perfect, but I can't do nothing right by her, even no matter what I did or how I tried to summarize and paraphrase everything with all my abilities and efforts, she just takes it otherwise.
Even when I tried to convince multiple times that I'm not now nor am I no longer what I used to...
She has trust issues.

Last day of internship
Tumblr media
This day marks my last day of internship with Westjet. It has been 2 months since I am doing customer service and it was my pleasure working with such a experienced colleagues. To be honest, I have improved my communication skills a lot, developed my problems solving skills by dealing with real time rude passengers, learned how to control and calm down passengers by using a specific way of communication, accomplished my smart learning objectives during my internship. I believe all this holds a great importance everywhere and will be with me during my whole journey. Good byes are always hard but we will be meeting soon as a employee at the airport. Thanks to all Westjet employees, my friends and professor for giving me this valuable experience and be there for me. My placement was enjoyable, and I'm eager to see what the future holds for me……..✈️

“ vindica te tibi „ – and what we should learn from an old stoic like Seneca
if you have ever studied latin or philosophy, you will certainly have stumbled upon Seneca, a very problematic dude who, however, occasionally said the right things.
“ vindica te tibi „ is my all-time-favorite latin quote, it litterally means “ vindicate yourself for yourself „, but we can translate it better with “ take control of yourself „. in order to deeply understand this statement, let's take a look at stoic philosophy.
stoicism [ from latin stōicus and ancient greek Στωϊκός ( stōïkós ) ]: it’s a philosophy designed to make us more resilient, happier, more virtuous and more wise and – as a result – better people, better parents and better professionals. it is a philosophical and spiritual current with a rational (human rationality is the basis of everything), pantheistic (everything is God, God is everywere, the whole universe is God), deterministic (nothing happens by chance but everything is regulated by precise logical laws), and dogmatic (all that is, as being, is real and concrete) imprint, with a strong ethical and tendentially optimistic orientation. stoicism was founded in Athens around 300 bc by Zeno of Citium and later it was introduced to rome by Panaetius of Rhodes in the 2nd century bc. stoicism is a tool in the pursuit of self-mastery, perseverance, and wisdom: something one uses to live a great life, rather than some esoteric field of academic inquiry. [ sources wikipedia and dailystoic ]
Seneca was a stoic philosopher who lived in rome in the 1st century ad, and he wrote this quote in a letter addressed to Lucilus, a friend of his much younger than him, interested in philosophy and politics.
in this letter ( the first of his epistolary ) he deals with the theme of time and the brevity of life, a subject that he would often return to in many of his works. basically Seneca claims that life isn't actually that short, as the majority of people complain, we're just very good at waste our time beign slaves of something, instead of using it wisley. there are many ways people waste their time, he calls them " the busy ones ", those people who spend their energies on useless business and relationships, which lead neither to their personal growth nor to an economic, social or psychological advantage, just because they're used to it.
Seneca is saying that we are so used to wasting time, doing certain things just because we have been taught to do so, that we don't realize that we could do much more for ourselves and for our enviroment if we only knew how to use our time correctly.
" vindica te tibi " means that you have to take control of your time, because no one can give it back to you. your future depends on the investment in yourself and in your time, your future and who you are as a person is up to you. take control of yourself.

With more information concerning the weight and balance of passengers' baggage, I can indicate to the extra luggage and overweight luggage that both are different categories and have their own scenarios.
Passengers with extra luggage depending on their destination need to pay approximately between $280 to $300 (CAN).
Passengers with overweight baggage will be charged per kilo for 206, roughly.

My back story. Isolation, closed family culture & Ableism
Written by Ashton Deroy Tonight I learned one of my Autistic Peers from Public school thought I hated them. Maybe I was a bit of a bully. For that I made amends. I was sure to tell them that wasn’t true I could never hate them. DON’T BE A BULLY LIKE I WAS! I explained my ADHD and how I grew up to them. This needs to be said. If you have an autistic child? DO NOT isolate them from their peers.…

Where Will I Get The Money?
Some financial sources I would consider for future business start up would be love money and personal investment. Why you may ask? Well, its self explanatory really; small town, small market, and built off a passion for crafting unique things to decorate my new home. My business strategy is not to make millions; but to share my passion with my community and friends by providing unique items they can use to bring a smile to their faces each day. I learned to make signs these rustic signs from my Auntie in her little craft room and learned that amongst the chaos and hustle bustle in my busy life; painting, building and crafting brought calm to me and I began to make time for it for more of a self care method. My auntie gave me the materials to start out and showed me how to save money making the signs. However; a person can only have so many things of their home which sparked the idea to share my passion with my community amongst the many people passionate about the same things. Now that I am working on starting a small business, she is right in there with me providing me with supplies, tools, paint and anything I really need to get started. My uncle built my work station; and my father gave me the sander, electric saw, and table saw I needed to save time producing my products. That’s where the love money comes into my business. In addition; the self investment is the time invested into creating my business plan, as this is a passion-based idea rather than a profit based I still need to go at this business with a profit mindset while also making sure that my items will sell over my competitors. I began making my own signs purely due to the high cost of home décor and the limited selection as my town is very small and the only retail store we have is Walmart I knew that this is SMART business idea and I can make money while doing something I am passionate about but also fulfilling a need in my community; affordable things to make your home  “homey” in todays market while most of us are struggling to make ends meat makes this a business strategy that does not need to go beyond self investment or love money. I don’t believe that I need to secure loans as this is a micro-business and a side income on top of my full time job and I don’t have plans to expand further with this as id rather focus my entrepreneurship into my current role as a business leader of a restaurant in my community.
