Fun Fact: Leopard Seals sing underwater! It's unclear if it's for general communication, claiming territory or mating calls. Leviathantale Geno is based off a Leopard Seal, so I imagine him angrily singing at Reaper before he got to know him.

Leviathantale Mermay 2022 Day 20: Adrift
Summary: Because they were constantly hunted, Cyclops children were nonexistent. At least, that’s what Geno thought.
Geno finds the child in his wanderings. Long after the mortals began to turn on his kind out of fear, he learned that survival came to those who didn’t stay in place. While the number of mortal hunters is dwindling with time as his kinds’ existences are fading from memory, Geno isn’t one to take any chances.
When his sealskin and feet brought him up to the Arctic, Geno didn’t expect to find…them.
Ever since the culling, the Cyclops were too busy fleeing and trying to survive to even think about having children. Not only did the high-stress environment make conception near-impossible, but birthing a child in a world where they would always be hunted seemed cruel.
That’s why Geno’s mind could hardly process the sight in front of him. His single eye focuses completely on the toddler in front of them. The cyclops child barely stands at the height of his knee. Their head tilts upwards to the point of discomfort as if to highlight how small they are. They regard him with the same intensity except it’s fueled by a sharp sort of fear that shakes Geno from his shock.
Geno tries to approach them. That’s a mistake. In his concern and his tentative hope that there are other survivors nearby, he forgets that the child is afraid of him. They bite him with a fierceness that impresses Geno. Ferocity means a higher chance of survival. Ferocity means that Geno doesn’t have to coddle the child if it turns out that they are an orphan. (With a sinking feeling in his nonexistent gut, Geno realizes that no parent would allow their child to wander so far or let their sealskin get this matted. For sea’s sake, there’s still blood around the child’s mouth from their last feeding.)
Somehow, he manages to scoop up the feral child and get a good whiff of their scent.
Oh Mia, Geno despairs when he recognizes the scent from the child’s second-hand pelt. They found you too and now your child is all alone.
Geno has never been close to Mia, but in their brief and short interactions when their paths crossed, he found her charming and kind. He’s uncertain of who the father is, but it’s clear that he’s not in the picture. It’s unusual for seal skins to be used twice, but Geno has a sinking suspicion that Mia must have given the pelt to her child so they could swim and flee when she…could not.
Geno decides then and there that he’s taking the kid with him, willing or not, because as fierce as the child is, there is only so much they can do on their own. And there is no way he’d leave them here to fend for themself.
The child fights him at every step. They hiss and snarl at him while scratching at his arms as he takes them to his shelter where he wrangles them into an impromptu bath session. They wail as he cleans the blood from their mouth and untangles their hair. He makes sure to give their fluffy, white sealskin the same treatment. By the end of it, he has one clean and grumpy toddler.
They become significantly less grumpy when he takes them close to the fire and offers them his food. With a sigh, his hard work is erased as they grasp at the barely-cooked fish with their bare hands and rip its head off viciously with their baby teeth. With a sigh, Geno realizes that he will have to teach them etiquette too on top of many other things.
“I’m Geno,” he says, breaking the silence between them. The child stops chewing and fixes him with an intent stare. “I was a friend of your mother, Mia.”
“...Mama?”
Geno tries not to flinch at the raw grief in the child’s voice. Ah. Mia’s passing must’ve been recent then. They clutch at their sealskin and stains it with fish bits as they nuzzle it. They look even smaller in their efforts to find comfort in the last reminder of their mother.
“Yeah. Your ‘Mama’. We knew each other. I am sorry for your loss,” Geno says, keeping his voice soft. “You are too young to be alone. I’m going to take care of you now.”
The child flinches at that. “No!” They hiss. “Not Blank’s Mama!”
So the child’s name is Blank. That’s good to know. Geno doesn’t take Blank’s visceral reaction to his intention to be their guardian too personally. To their young mind, they’re probably thinking that he’s trying to usurp Mia’s position.
“Not Blank’s Mama,” Geno agrees patiently. “I am Geno,” he makes sure to repeat, “and I will be your Guardian.”
“...Geno? Blank’s Guardian?”
“Yes, Blank’s Guardian. I will be protecting you until you’re big and strong enough to live in this world on your own,” Geno promises. He leans forward and wipes their messy face, making them scowl adorably. “Is that okay with you?”
Blank thinks long and hard about it before giving Geno a cautious nod. “Mmn.”
Well, that’s that. Geno is responsible for a child now.
…Oh no. Geno is responsible for a child now.
—————————————————————
Cyclops!Blank is a spicy feral baby who can and will take your shins out for a yummy fishie. As a Cyclops, they are gigantic and their baby seal form reflects that. Think Leviathan!Blank except they can shift into a feral one-eyed being at will. Their tragic backstory is that they witnessed the violent death of their mother, who had been hiding them under her pelt when Cyclops Hunters found them. At this age, they knew how to swim and hunt on their own, so they managed to take care of themself long enough for Geno to come across them. It takes a while for Blank to warm up to him, but they eventually reach the heartwarming parent-child relationship that they have in “Little Selkie”.
Blue, sobbing at the cuteness that is Blank: Let me hold the child! Please!
Geno: Lol no. They bite.
Blank, from Geno’s arms: Blep.
Sometime in the future…
Megladon!Cross: (Sees giant baby seal)
Megladon!Cross: (Snatches it from the ice) Mine.

In this AU, merfolk can appear as the full animal version to avoid detection by normal humans. Saitama has a special ability to also turn into full human to go on land (selkie..!). Genos wants this ability… and he doesn’t like when Saitama leaves him behind 💦

Purr
Reaper had always been drawn to the dead and dying. It's how he found Geno. The selkie had been attacked by poachers and on the verge of becoming sea foam when the leviathan first saw him. He didn't quite know what compelled him to save the selkie that day, but he was glad he did. Geno... not so much. The poor leopard seal now had a constant follower, a clingy orca mer he just could not shake. It wasn't the worst, considering the alternative was that he died, but it wasn't the best either. Because this particular orca was a massive flirt. Geno wasn't good with romance. He was a solitary selkie who didn't much appreciate the new company. At least, for a while. Some way, some how, Reaper grew on him. They started courting. And it was shortly after that when Geno learned what his partner really was. A giant leviathan with control over ice and death itself. Boy was that a chilling revelation.
Geno was busy chasing down penguins on his lonesome when he spotted the skull of his partner peeking from the water. He almost wanted the scold the behemoth, but that would only frighten away the prey. So Geno remained silent and continued his hunting. Until he was unceremoniously plucked from his hunting spot by a large hand.
"Hello darling!" Reaper chirped as he cradled his tiny seal in his hand.
"Put me down." Geno growled. The orca sighed dramatically and fulfilled his love's wish. And promptly beached himself to be right next to him. "REAPER!" Geno screeched as he tried to maintain his balance on the ice that was now weighed down by one- nevermind, Reaper was back in his smaller form.
"Here!" He gave the seal a smile and presented him with two penguins, freshly caught and ripped up in just the right way. Gifts weren't uncommon but something was different. Geno stared at his partner, hoping for some answer to the gifts to emerge. The cheeky bastard only gave him a dopey grin in return.
"What's the occasion?"
"Does there need to be one?" Reaper tilted his head in confusion, giving him the look of an innocent sea creature. Red blush crawled on Geno's skull.
"N-no. But, why hunt penguins? It's not exactly easy for you,"
"Can't I do something nice for my love?" The selkie's face got redder and rather than give the orca a reply, he dug into the meal he was presented with. Reaper smiled, something soft and sweet, looking almost unnatural on the face of death itself, and he curled around his smaller mate. Geno said nothing as he pressed against the warm body and continued his feast.
A pleasant silence settled around the two, Geno crunching away at the penguin carcasses whilst Reaper was content to just sit and watch. The two simply enjoyed each others company. It was only when the meal was finished and Geno felt exhaustion creep up on him that something changed. A rumble from the selkie started up, not startling Reaper as much as it surprised him. His- Geno was purring? It was a sound of utter contentment and Reaper was so happy he could provide. He curled his tail closer around the leopard seal and pressed a gentle kiss to his skull before allowing the smaller to fall into a comfortable and safe sleep.

Geno rubbed his arms, hugging into his chest. The water was colder than usual today, even the selkie shivering in the chill. It was dark on the surface, no light filtering through the ice to the water. Wind rushed against the ice, its angry howl echoing to a roar in the quiet night.
He hated winter. It was always so, annoyingly, cold, and food was frustratingly hard to find. It was a nightmare.
The noises didn’t help. He’d never admit it, but the sound of the wind screaming above him was terrifying, and the dark water could hide any number of things. He rubbed a spot on his tail, grimacing at the scar that still tore across it. It always hurt more when it was cold. Another reason why winter was bad, he supposed.
Something thumped on the ice behind him, followed by an exclamation. Geno laughed, turning to the familiar face of his mate. Reaper was rubbing his skull, glaring at a crack in the thick ice.
“Stars fucking- Who gave the ice a right to hurt that much?”
Geno sighed, swimming up to hug the mer. “I wouldn’t hurt if you didn’t run into it~”
“Okay, first off, fuck you. Second off, if you hadn’t been looking sad, I wouldn’t have run into the ice. Or if you had come to me. Just hanging out here isn’t safe.” Reaper rubbed the selkie’s skull, nervously checking for any hidden injuries.
“Oh. Sorry, I…” Geno trailed off, twisting slightly out of Reaper’s grasp. “I’m fine, I promise, just… Anxious.”
“Why?”
“Why not?”
Reaper hummed, pulling the selkie closer. “That’s not an answer.”
“Maybe I just don’t wanna give you one.”
With a sigh, the orca began tugging the smaller downwards. “That’s fine. Now c’mon, dumbass, you’re gonna get munched up here.”
The selkie glared at his mate, pouting at his laughter. Reaper landed a kiss on the smaller’s skull, whispering, “I love you too, dumbass,” as he swam.

Geno is a Leopard Seal Selkie. Leopard Seals are basically the top of the food chain in the ocean. Only the killer whale is higher in ranking.

Leviathantale Mermay 2022 Day 30: Aquarium
Summary: A Leviathantale Bitty AU where all mer (including the Leviathans) are bitties.
As a selkie who lived most of his life away from society, the concept of ‘bitties’ had always baffled Geno. Small enough to be pets, but intelligent enough to be more than that. Still, despite their ability to think and feel, many landwalkers treated bitties like novelty toys to use and abuse. Landwalkers were always so strange and cruel with their creations and discoveries. It’s the main reason why selkie-kind was so strict in hiding their true identities.
It just seemed cruel to buy and own another intelligent being for the sake of amusement. The thought left a sour taste in his nonexistent tongue every time he thought it.
Still, despite his reservations against “owning” bitties, Geno could never deny Blank. Especially when they came to him with the saddest look in their eyes and a horribly shaken and traumatized bitty in their favorite plastic bucket that they always carried around. Apparently, despite being an expensive kind of bitty, Cross had been deemed ‘defective’ and was close to being euthanized before Blank pitter-pattered into the store. The shopkeeper, who has a soft-spot for the child, decided to give Cross to Blank as a ‘gift’.
“Bwank luv Cwoss,” Geno’s pup pleaded from the get-go. ‘Oh no, they already named him,’ was Geno’s first coherent thought. “Keep Cwoss, Mama? Pwease?”
Geno crumbled, of course. Between him and Blue, Geno always was weaker when it came to Blank’s watery eyes. It was only by the grace of his friend that Blank didn’t end up being spoiled rotten.
It became very clear that Cross and Blank were inseparable. The Thresher shark bitty completely adored Geno’s pup and became their unofficial protector and full-time playmate. He even joined them in bathtime.
Geno had to admit that he became fond of Cross. Fond enough that he purchased an expensive fish tank for him to stretch his fins and have a space of his own. It was large enough to fit many bitties, so Cross had all the space he needed.
Of course, Blue took this as an invitation to get bitties of his own. Soon enough, Ink and Error came into their lives, making their home louder and more chaotic. But they loved Blue and Blank deeply, so Geno tolerated their bickering and messes.
Then Kelp, bless his kind soul, had the bright idea to start bringing in rescues.
Nightmare, Dream, Horror, Dust, and Killer certainly made things more exciting for Cross. He took to them after his initial weariness. As much as Blank brightened up his life, his new Shiver was exactly what he needed.
When Stretch brought Sans and Papyrus, who were big enough to need tanks of their own, Geno put his foot down. No more bitties.
…Only to make an exception when he met Reaper.
The orca bitty had been stuck in a too-small goldfish bowl in a corner of a pet shop in the mainland. Geno had traveled there for an errand and caught sight of the depressed bitty. His poor fin drooped as he stared through the glass with an empty gaze. Geno bought him then and there and brought him back home.
Now, Reaper is a completely different bitty. He’s energetic and a little dopey, always trying to grab Geno’s attention. He’s touchy too. Whenever Geno comes close Reaper always grabs at his hands for a cuddle.
It’s clear to everyone and Geno that Reaper is completely and utterly besotted.
Geno’s quiet family of three has grown within a blink of an eye and he can’t find it in himself to be annoyed by that.
“Good morning, beautiful,” Reaper sings from the opening of the tank as Geno made his way to the kitchen for some coffee. Shameless as ever, Reaper rattles off his mating song in an effort to woo Geno as he does every morning. At this point, it’s part of the routine. Still, Geno flushes behind his mug at the attention as Killer and Dust snickers amongst the plastic plants at his plight.
Blank wakes up not too long after. Carefully, they move the bitties to a tank settled in a wagon for their daily walk through the town. Today, they’re going to the beach area so the bitties can look at the ocean up close.
“Be careful,” Geno cautions them as he helps them wheel the wagon through the front door, “you know that bitties can’t touch saltwater. It’ll hurt them.” And kill them, but Blank doesn’t need to know that part. “Remember, come back home before lunch.”
“Okie, Mama,” Blank chirps.
“Don’t worry, Gen. We’ll keep an eye on them,” Reaper assures him with a soft look in his eyelights. “It’s only a trip to the beach. What’s the worst thing that can happen?”
-----------------------------------------------------------
And then later, a series of events causes the bitties to somehow wind up in saltwater and turn into full-sized mers, revealing the secret that all aquatic bitties are actually mers turned smol by evil science.
Geno = That one parent who claims they don’t want a pet but ends up doting on the pet
