❀ building 13 movie theater headcanons !! ❀

YURRRR !! went to da movies earlier today so i kept imagining specific nanbaka characters in like cinema situations :P cinemations...cinetuations...?? YEAH-

rock is finding a way to smuggle in an outrageous amount of snacks. bro's got candy in his sleeves and chips in his pockets. originally only brought them for himself but ofc the rest of cell 13 beg him for a bite and he lets them cus thats just who he is. despite how much food he brought in he still finds himself missing the beginning of the movie bc he couldn't resist the heavenly scent of overpriced popcorn

nico is a slushy FANATIC. mixin' all the flavors, dumping candies in it n shit. totally the kid in the back of the movie theater slurping the last drop out of the cup hella loud when a quiet, tense moment is going down in a film. hajime's annoyed but stares daggers at anyone who tries to shush him. NICO'S FAV SLUSHY FLAVOR IS THE RED CHERRY ONE !!

uno, bless his heart, is absolutely the person who tries to predict the movie's plot before and during it. and the bad part is he's usually right. also the kinda guy to be scarily good at guessing what the characters are gonna say next lol

jyugo actually likes the movies more than you'd expect. always pockets the 3d glasses just cus he thinks they're cool and he likes that he can spend time with the rest of cell 13 without a heavy focus on talking or interacting. it's also a bonus that it's dark and he can sleep if he gets bored

it took FOREVERRRR to drag tsukumo out to the movies. hc that he's a much bigger fan of media without human actors in it because it reminds him less of his past, so the movie he went out to see with the rest of them was definitely animated. also likes the dark because it makes him feel stealthy, but he has a bad habit of stepping on each and every piece of popcorn or puddle of nacho cheese in the aisles...also insists on using the photo booth whenever he does hit up the cinema cus despite it all he still really likes getting his picture taken

yamato volunteers to wait on the snacks and carry them in while everyone goes ahead to take a seat in the theater. previews end and the movie is 15 minutes in but he still isn't there. everyone thought it was because the food was taking long to come out, but it's just because he forgot which theater to go to and kept circling until hajime and seitarou found him. prolly has trouble locating which seat to go to on his own cus he finds the letters and numbers confusing and hard to see in the dim light (totally not projecting)

seitarou has perfect movie etiquette and tries to get everyone else to follow his example, usually to no avail. his only problem is that he's too considerate of others and thinks he's being impolite when he's really not. the type to take the smallest bite of his food and tiniest sip of his drink so he doesn't disturb anyone. the kind to walk all the way around to the other side of an aisle because he doesn't wanna ask someone to pull back their seat for him to pass. poor guy, he even double-checked to see if his phone was on do not disturb and got shushed because his brightness was all the way up </3

andddd hajime. he's usually the sponsor for these outings since yamato literally can never find his wallet and seitarou doesn't have the heart to tell the others not to drain his bank account by buying ever concession there is. he doesn't let the inmates go wild with snacks and makes sure they behave properly while in there. uno tries to get the inmates to sneak over to another theater and catch the next showing but hajime catches them and makes them pick up the teensy bits of food they left on the ground. he's also the one who has the final say on what movie they actually go to, and even though he says he checks the ratings and plot beforehand because he "doesn't want to watch a shitty movie", it's actually because he wants it to be worth everyone's time and appeal to all of them at least a little bit. dadjime for the win <3

The most affectionate and sweet boy you could ever meet, you best be prepared for a life of constant doting with this cutie

At home, he’s a total malewife. Though you share the responsibilities and chores of the house, he insists on doing most of the work

Most mornings you’ll wake up to the smell of blueberry pancakes, waffles and eggs wafting through the house

Breakfast in bed? Yes.

A huge cuddler-- he can’t go a single day without snuggling you at least once or- according to him- he’d die

He prefers to save cuddles for when he gets home from work, so he gets to nuzzle and love on you after a stressful day

Plus, it feels better venting his frustrations of being picked on by a certain cell of inmates while he’s in your arms

He absolutely hates seeing you upset, and might start crying with you if he doesn’t make you feel better quick enough

He has a huge soft spot for being pet on the head, and will fall asleep on your lap if you let him while running your hand through his hair

HEY NANBAKA FANS!!! Has anyone ever thought about the linguistic skills everyone has? Concerning the fact that the cast is largely international with the inmates primarily besides the guards since majority of them are Japanese (except for Building 5 that's mainly Chinese).

Big Note: I'm not fully caught up in the manga and just basically started it, so this is all coming from an anime watcher. If its somehow explained in the manga then someone tell me please...

Though staying with the primary cast of Building 13, 3/4 of cell 13 are foreigners from specifically English speaking countries being America and Britain. So are the three of them fluent in Japanese? I guess they would because Nanba Prison is in Japanese waters with majority of everyone being Japanese. I understand that the foreign guards would have to know Japanese for obvious reasons.

So here are my personal headcanons/thoughts for the each of the primary characters in the anime (because I haven't finished the manga):

Inmates

I think it depends on the pasts and learning abilities of the inmates for them to have a better understandings of learning another language and retaining that.

Jyugo: I find it hard to believe he would be able to learn another language easily or even moderately. He probably tries to copy how someone pronounces something but he struggles with reading and writing. From all the prisons he's been to internationally, he probably has basic English that was kind of refined from Uno helping.

Uno: Out of everyone in cell 13, Uno would most likely be bilingual with English and Japanese. I don't think he would be completely fluent however, he might struggle with more complex sentences or words he's unfamiliar with. (Also who doesn't think Uno might slip into some angry British English or something...)

Nico: I think Nico would be able to speak more Japanese than English because of watching anime. He can't read so he's going off hearing, so he might have picked up on words from how they're used in phrases and puts them in his everyday. Along with all the guards and Jyugo probably teaching him in some way.

Rock: Honestly, I see Rock using more English than the other three. Using it more emotively especially when he's angry or frustrated, mainly to himself. His Japanese I'd say is decent but not as fluent.

Tsukumo: Definitely bilingual and possibly trilingual. Japanese and English and I'll say Chinese that his 'mum' encouraged him to learn because of possible roles. Probably maintains them by trying them with English and Chinese speaking inmates.

Liang: Japanese and Chinese straight up. Doesn't know English well at all because of the environment and situation he grew up in, but he probably doesn't care about learning another language and just keeps Japanese and Chinese. Too busy training anyway.

Upa: Same thing with Liang. Don't really care and too busy training. English? I think he'd be really competitive against like Liang to see who's better at English.

Qi: Trilingual. Qi is pretty smart so I'm not surprised he would know three languages or so. He might've had foreign clients before he went to prison so he'd have to know English at least. Its Japanese, Chinese and English he knows to spell it out.

Musashi: Most likely the most knowledgeable out of the inmates, considering Musashi went to college so I'm saying trilingual. For all I know he might not be fluent in Japanese but he’s certainly fluent in German and English for obvious reasons (he’s German if anyone forgot).

Honey: Bilingual. He’s half Japanese and American but we don’t know anything about his family so who knows if he was actually taught Japanese at a young age. But Honey is quite smart with his bullets and the thread so I’d say he knows English and Japanese well to near fluency.

Trois: Most likely also bilingual but possibly trilingual. Trois is very intelligent considering his somewhat sadistic self with machinery, in my mind he probably has enough brain space for two at least languages. French is one and the other is Japanese, I said trilingual because I'm not sure if he would know English somehow.

Guards

They gotta be smart in a way and physically strong enough to keep these inmates from escaping. Not to mention the foreign guards having to learn another language to work at Nanba.

Hajime: Strikes me as a man that at least knows decent English but not fluent. I think he's very knowledgeable in other languages but he's too busy to study them or learn them.

Yamato: I don't think Yamato knows a lot of English or any other language besides Japanese. I'm not sure how he met his wife since she's Russian but I think she's bilingual while he isn't really.

Seitarou: Shy English speaker and isn't that confident in his skills, but he knows it decently. Though he doesn't give a vibe that he knows anything other than Japanese or English.

Samon: For obvious reasons he's bilingual with Japanese and Chinese. I like to think that the Chinese inmates and guards talk to each other in Chinese as a way of retaining the language. I see Samon helping some inmates retain their Chinese if some happen to forget like writing.

Inori: Again, bilingual. Highly doubt he would try to learn another language. Would he speak it at Nanba with anyone else? Honestly, he might but probably not often at all yet he somehow still remembers his Chinese.

Kenshirou: I'll be honest here, Kenshirou most likely knows the basics for a bunch of languages from his years in the police and he might of had to pick up basics for other languages for situations or so. Currently, I see his linguistics being a bit broken from not using it and or he forgets because of his work.

Hitoshi: Probably really knowledgeable on linguistics and other cultures but might have trouble speaking. Is very curious about other cultures and actually wouldn't mind learning from the people and feeling a great amount of appreciation for them. Considering the fact that he remembers that Hajime told him that Germans like beer a lot so I think Hitoshi wouldn't mind learning about other languages.

Kiji: This is hard. But I don't think Kiji would be extremely good with learning another language but I think he would know a few words. Like random words he can use and say in the correct times, though he probably would be too busy with his duties

Mitsuru: Ironically, probably knows many languages and surprisingly doesn't butcher any of them. Most likely favours English the most and is most likely fluent. Reason I'd say is from music he listens to or just saying shit for the jokes and memes.

Momoko: Relatively knowledgeable on other languages but isn't fluent in those languages. I'd say as the warden she'd have to encounter many foreigners so she'd know other languages for conversation and what's necessary.

“Wanna kiss?”

Seitarou X Reader

Nickname- (N/N)

Seitarou was just humming along the corridors of building 13 with a small stack of papers alphabetized in his arms. Today was the first day in a very long time that he has gotten a break from being bullied by the inmates of building 13 and it was all thanks to one guard, (Y/N).

“I hope they're not busy later,” Seitarou smiled in thought, “I want to thank them for all they've done.”

He thought dreamily about the new guard that was ever so handed to him by the warden. The new guard was an angel in a Nanba uniform to him. He has it so bad for them that he once drooled in front of them but they had just assumed it was over the delicious looking bento they had in their hands. He flushed thinking about that memory and Mitsuru's narration about his sad attempts at flirting.

He sighed with a dejected look as he continued his way to the main office in his sector. When he arrived at the main office and was reaching for the door he paused. He stared at the door for a moment to confirm what he had just heard. And there it was again, a muffled conversation. He was perplexed by this, no one was supposed to be in the office but him and (Y/N). He continued to stare until a disrespectful idea popped into his head.

He knew he shouldn't but he couldn't help it, he was curious, so he pressed his ear against the door. While the conversation wasn't crystal clear he could still make out who was talking. He stayed there and listened.

“No, you can't,“ He heard their voice say demandingly.

“Come on, (N/N)! Please,” Rock whined.

“No,” they said firmly, “Hajime told me I wasn’t allowed to give you guys anymore.”

“Awe but (N/N)-chan,” Nico fussed, “We want kisses! Please, can we have some!”

Seitarou nearly choked on air when he heard that.

“Yeah,” he heard Uno's smug voice interject, “You ALWAYS give the best kisses.”

He heard Jyugo hum in agreement.

Seitarou's heart was beating a mile a minute as he awaited their answer. He clenched his papers tighter hoping you wouldn't give in to them when his heart shattered.

“Fine,” they sighed, “You can all have a kiss but just one.”

While the four inmates cheered inside the office, Seitarou clenched the documents in his arms more aggressively than before. He felt this surge of new found energy and courage to burst the door open.

The slamming of the office door caused the four inmates to jump thinking it was Hajime but physically relaxed when they turned and saw that it was just Seitarou. They all smiled at him from the couch facing away from the door.

“Ah, it's just you Seitarou,” Rock sighed.

“Yeah, thank goodness,” Nico chirped.

Seitarou was not smiling instead it was a frown and tear-welled eyes. The inmates all looked at each other as if silently asking themselves what was wrong with him.

“Hey, you okay, Seitarou?” Jyugo spoke up when nobody else would.

He continued to wear the same expression and refused to answer the question in fear of his voice cracking. The inmates started to feel uncomfortable while (Y/N), who was silent the whole time, decided to say the first thing that came to mind.

“Wanna kiss?” They asked.

“What?!” Seitarou stuttered in shock.

“Yeah, do you want one?” They asked once again.

Seitarou didn't know how to respond but he knew that he couldn't let this opportunity slip through his fingers. So with that thought in mind, he swallowed the lump in his throat and nodded his head hesitantly.

He watched as they got up and started walking towards him. He froze with a huge blush that covered the tips of his ears as they came nearer. His heart hammered away in his chest as they stopped directly in front of him. They were so close, he can practically smell their shampoo. Seitarou had to close his eyes to keep himself from fainting.

“Okay, here it...is?” They questioned as they saw him on the, now, messy floor with a red face.

The five of you stared at the unconscious guard before Uno started laughing at the poor blue-haired male with the others soon joining. The conscious guard rolled their eyes as they picked up the male with ease and carried him to the bed in the monitoring room for more comfort.

When they came back the inmate’s laughter had died down a bit.

“How can someone faint being offered a kiss?” Jyugo asked in confusion.

“I don't know but it looks like pretty boy found a way to,” Uno teased.

(Y/N) shook their head at the inmate with a soft smile.

“Alright, you boys have had your share, now back to your cell you go,” they ordered with a soft smile.

The inmates whined as Nico walked up to you with a bright grin.

“Please, (N/N)-chan, can I have another kiss?” Nico gave the puppy dog eyes.

“Hm, fine,” they gave in reaching into their backpack to retrieve a bag.

They pulled out the bag and Nico cupped out his hand expectantly. The guard shook their head once more with a grin and placed a tear-shaped chocolate into their hands.

Once Nico had gotten it he unwrapped the chocolatey goodness and popped it into his mouth, savoring the flavor. His friends started to whine again over not receiving another kiss so (Y/N) just gave them all another piece and escorted them back to their cell.

Poor Seitarou! He was so fixated on his desire to win the affection of his angel that he completely forgot that there was a candy named after the loving gesture.

Okay, but Nanbaka is so, so much fun to write for and I laughed so much doing these! For the men of Building 13, I hope you enjoy these reaction prompts from this prompt here! They were originally supposed to be gif reactions, along with other reactions I wrote but honestly, Tumblr's gif system hates me and is crap. It took five minutes to load the first little pane of gifs despite my internet not lagging on anything else so these, and probably most of the other reaction posts I wrote, will be gifless and more like reaction headcanons, which is still something, but I do apologize for!

Jyugo

The character’s reaction to walking in on you naked

So, he walks in on you naked, and he definitely does mentally react because you’re naked. That is what you look like naked…that is your completely naked body he’s seeing. You’re very, very naked…it’s just really a lot for his mind to handle, in a way, but you’d never know it by looking at him because he just doesn’t seem to be reacting at all. He’s still acting cool as a cucumber and he wouldn’t think to even close the door again or to leave, he’d just kind of awkwardly stand there and might even ask you ‘what’s up? What’s going on?’ like it’s no big deal that you’re not wearing any clothes.

The character’s reaction to walking in on you on the toilet

Jyugo’s grown up in prisons, where there is a lack of privacy. Certain prisons he’s been in just had a single shared toilet in the cell he shared with others. He’s not really too bothered by people using the toilet then and it really doesn’t seem abnormal to him. Everyone does it and he really won’t react at all to you needing to use the toilet. He’d probably just grab whatever he’d entered the bathroom for and walk back out without saying much of anything because it is such a non-thing to him.

The character’s reaction to walking in on you having a tea party with stuffed animals

Now this one might faze Jyugo just a bit. He’d be just a little confused as to what was going on but he wouldn’t react too much, honestly. Jyugo is the king of nonreactions, honestly. He’d probably just ask you what you were doing, and he wouldn’t really understand why you’d be so embarrassed about the whole situation. If you had good snacks, he’d even ask to join in, especially since he’s never been to a tea party before.

Uno

The character’s reaction to walking in on you in the shower

I can’t even fully explain why but I am so, so certain that this asshole (said lovingly) would definitely stare and grin and wolf-whistle at you. He’d make a lewd joke or comment as you yelled at him to get out and he’s definitely not going to be quick as he leaves. He’s just casually going to saunter his ass out of the bathroom like its completely normal behaviour.

The character’s reaction to walking in on you waking from a nightmare

Straight up, Uno’s probably the best person to have walk in on you waking up if you’re waking up because you’ve just had a really bad nightmare. He’s really observant and notices really quickly that you don’t seem quite okay, so he’d be talking to you and getting pretty close to you quickly. He’s casual about it, just asking seemingly harmless questions like ‘can’t sleep’ at first, but when you confess that you had a bad dream, he’ll ask if you want to talk about it. He’ll pretty patiently listen to your bad dream if you do want to tell him about it, will help reassure you that everything is okay and it was just a dream and that you’re safe, before he shares some of his weird nightmares to lighten the mood and make you smile or laugh. He’ll also probably stay up, even if he pretends to be asleep, until he’s sure you got back to sleep.

The character’s reaction to walking in on you kissing a stranger

Nosy as fuck. Who is that person? Why are they kissing you? It doesn’t matter if he’s interested in you or not, he will be all up in your business about it and he won’t even wait until later, he’s doing it right then and there. He will grill the person you’re kissing about their intentions and what right did they have to be kissing you and so on. The only exception would be if the two of you were in a relationship and he caught you kissing someone else. Uno’s usually really animated, and his face is so full of emotion…except in that moment. It’s like his face and his body language just shut off and he looks completely devoid of any emotion at all. He’d simply turn and walk away and if you tried to run after him, he’d just keep walking, saying in a really forced, casual tone that the two of you would talk about it later.

Rock

The character’s reaction walking in on you making a shady transaction

Rock isn’t very subtle in a lot of ways, and he’d plain out ask what was going on. He’s not so dumb as to not know that something obviously wasn’t kosher in the situation he stumbled in on and he’s suspicious and protective enough of you to need to check it out. He won’t take ‘nothing’ as an answer either and will get the truth.

He’s a pretty hot-blooded male and if he finds you at all attractive, he’s going to gawk at you in that costume until you say something. God, he appreciates that view and his mind just sort of short circuited for a moment and he might have forgotten how to breathe, especially if that sexy costume had anything that looked like an apron…he’ll apologize if you seem angry and he’ll definitely leave quickly, with a very red face, if you draw attention to the fact that he’s been staring. You will catch him looking at you a lot more often for the next couple of days.

The character’s reaction to walking in on you in bed with someone

Again, this really depends. Rock would go absolutely berserk and completely lose his temper if you were in a relationship and he caught you cheating. Like, I hope your bed companion is fast because otherwise, there will be blood. He takes loyalty very damn seriously. If the two of you weren’t together, but Rock really was interested in you, he’d feel so sick walking in on that. He’d quickly close the door and would be stuttering apologies, but it would eat him up inside in the moment and for quite a bit afterwards. His heart would break, and it would hurt so much more than any physical injury he’d ever gotten and he might avoid you altogether after that. If the two of you were just friends though, he’d still quickly close the door and yell apologies and walk away as quickly as he could because he really doesn’t want to be around to hear any noises or anything. He’d be grilling you afterwards on who you were with, when that happened, what were they like to you, did they treat you good, did you love them…he just really does worry about you and wants the best for you and he’ll want to make sure that whoever you are sleeping with is not going to hurt you or break your heart.

Nico

Every anime and video-game and manga he’s ever consumed and tried to learn the moves out of, every training session he’s ever had with Upa…they have all led him to this moment and he’ll be pulling out every move he knows of to get the masked assailant away from you long enough for the two of you to run away from the situation together and get to somewhere safe.

He honestly wouldn’t get it. Like, he’s okay with you being in his bed but he’s just going to plop down beside you and grin and assume you’re in the mood for a fun sleepover. He’d be the type to smile so big and pull out a comic or suggest building a blanket fort with him since the two of you are in bed already so you guys can be comfy and watch some anime together. If you’re looking for anything sexual, you need to be so much blunter and more direct about your intentions than that. The only thing that might phase him is if you were naked in bed waiting for him and even then he’d probably just think he’d walked in on you before you finished changing into your pajamas.

If Nico knew the song you were singing, he’d start singing along with you at the top of his lungs. You look like you’re having fun and he wants to join in on the fun. If he doesn’t know the song but there’s anything nearby that could make an impromptu instrument, he’s grabbing it and clumsily jamming along with you for the exact same reason.

Hajime

It would depend on what you are to him. If you and him are in a relationship and have been sexual with each other, he’s going to be turned on by it and will take it as a sign that you’re in the mood and will happily show you that he’s much better than any video. If you and him aren’t already in a relationship and he does feel that way towards you, he’s probably going to linger for a second or two longer than he needs to, enough time for the image of you to be firmly set in his mind and for him to take note of what kind of porn you’re watching before turning around quickly and apologizing as he leaves, his face and ears going so damn red. If he doesn’t feel that way towards you, he’s just turning around and walking away as quickly as he can without saying anything. He’s going to pretend it never happened; he’ll block it from his mind because he doesn’t need to deal with that shit, no siree.

The character’s reaction to walking in on you in the middle of a mental breakdown

It really goes either one of two ways, and it really depends on if you’re a calmer sort of mental breakdown person or a more scream and cry and react loudly sort of mental breakdown person. If you’re over-reacting, in his opinion, or crying and being really loud, he’ll be annoyed with it all and order you to get yourself together before he leaves you alone to your ‘temper tantrum’ as he’ll put it…really, he just needs you to calm down enough to be even somewhat reasonable because he’s really bad at dealing with unreasonable people. If you’re more the quiet breakdown person or if you’ve calmed down enough to think even semi-clearly, even if you’re still crying or having the breakdown, he’ll probably just stand, smoking and staring at you until you inevitably start talking. He needs you to tell him what’s wrong, what’s going on, what you’re feeling or thinking because he can’t do jack shit unless he knows those things. He’ll tell you his thoughts on it all, using as few words as he can, and his words will be rough and blunt and they’ll seem really harsh but at the same time, he gives really good advice actually and what he’s saying is completely accurate and reasonable, even if he sounds like a dick in the moment.

Okay, Hajime is just fucking done in this situation. He’s annoyed because you’re piss ass drunk and that’s going to cause problems and you’re acting like an idiot but at the same time, he’s also really pissed because you’re kind of cute like that too and he just is not okay with that fact. He’s definitely going to call you an idiot and lecture you, probably because, while you’re already drunker than a skunk, you’re still trying to drink more while he’s trying to get the liquor away from you. He’ll make you drink so much water and will order you to sleep it off because you’re definitely getting some kind of punishment for your actions the next day and he needs you to be sober by then.

Seitarou

The character’s reaction to walking in on you having a heart attack

Holy fuck but does this boy panic in this situation. He’s a guard and he’s even got basic medical training, but he just cannot keep his head. He’s yelling for help, radioing for medical assistance, telling you everything will be okay, and begging you not to die and leave him alone with all the bullying people, all somehow at the same time.

The character’s reaction to walking in on you having an embarrassing fall

He hates that it’s his first reaction but like, Seitarou is strangely overjoyed to have walked in on you just at this moment. It’s not joy that you fell or anything but more like…it wasn’t him this time being caught in an embarrassing moment and it’s just such a relief to him to see that those kinds of things happen to other people too. He’ll recover from that initial happiness really quickly though and it will turn into concern as he checks to make sure that you’re all right, but the joy was definitely there for a moment.

Yamato

The character’s reaction to walking in on you throwing up

Yamato’s actually pretty good with sick people. He doesn’t get disgusted by vomit like some other character’s would and he does genuinely care and get concerned about other people so I feel his first reaction would be to check to see if you’re sick. If you are sick, he’s getting you medical attention and will stay with you until he’s sure you’re feeling better or that you’re as well as you’re going to get.

The character’s reaction to walking in on you masturbating

Okay, but assuming he’s still canonically married, he’s noping right out of there. I mean, it takes him a second to understand what’s happening and he finds it oddly really hot, and it definitely turns him on but once it clicks in his head, the danger bells start going off because, like, too much temptation and he has a wife and he is faithful to his wife, thank you very much. He disappears really damn quick, while shouting apologies both as he leaves and probably for a good minute afterwards. Like, he just keeps apologizing to thin air as his mind wraps his head around all the awkwardness that just happened.
