Bucky Barnes x Reader Word Count: 397

You knew the risks of the military. Bucky promised you he would be safe and that when he got back he would make you his wife. You made Steve promise to watch after him. You knew Bucky was able to handle himself, but the worry was still there. The love of your life was leaving for god knows how long and you would wait for him, no matter how long it took.The day they showed up at your door was the worst day of your life. He died on his mission. The only Howling commando to die in the line of service. You acted fine in public but behind closed doors you shed more tears than you ever thought possible.

The second worse day of your life was when they told you Steve had also died. Your two best friends died in the span of only a few months. The emotions became too much to handle. You didn’t know why but you volunteered for one of Howard Starks experiments. You saw what he did for Steve. Who knew, maybe you could find love in the future. The thought seemed impossible still, your heart still longed for Bucky.

When you woke up it felt like no time had passed, but in reality, decades had. You hadn’t missed the deaths of loved ones, but you had little to nobody left by the time you volunteered. You didn’t know what to expect.

The thing you expected least was to wake up to see Bucky and Steve. The only people you had, the people you had lost in the span of months. At first, you thought your nose was playing tricks on you. That this was all a dream, or hallucination from being frozen. But when you felt Bucky reach out and touch you, you felt the spark you loved. The feeling that you had longed for since he left. It felt impossible, you knew he died, but here he was, right in front of you. ~

You found out the truth, what really happened to Steve and Bucky. The hell Bucky had lived when he was held prisoner by hydra. The torture he was objected to on a regular basis. But somehow he was still the man you loved. The funny and soft person who stole your heart with his charm.

Through hell and back, you found each other again.
