It's mermay so I'm having so many thoughts about siren Eddie trying to lure captain Steve off his ship, but he doesn't realise that Steve is deaf.
Steve knows about Eddie; he's had to stop quite a few of his men from jumping overboard to be with the beautiful siren. He spends so many days just leaning on the railing of his ship, gazing down at Eddie with a triumphant smile because he knows Eddie can't affect him, well, with his singing that is. He definitely affects Steve in other ways. Steve nearly toppled overboard just last week because he was too busy watching Eddie twirl a sword he no doubt stole while lounging on a rock, his gorgeous black tail glinting in the sun.
Eddie gives up trying to lure the captain into the sea after a month, but that doesn't mean he stops visiting the ship. He starts getting bolder. He throws stones in the captain's general direction to get his attention before proudly showing off the big fish he caught, only to get a confused sort of laugh from the man. He expected at least a clap or a thumbs up.
One morning, he spies the small boat that is usually hoisted up high on the side of the ship, in the water and he climbs inside, his tail too long so it hangs off the side while he waits. He nearly gives the captain and crew a heart attack when they finally pull it back up and find him lounging in the small boat with a rather large knife and lazy smile.
"I think you dropped this." Eddie grins at the captain, his sharp teeth causing several crew members to step back. He holds out the knife that he saw the man clumsily drop into his waters months ago. He is feeling generous. He'd normally keep treasures like that for himself.
"Thank you." Steve says with a soft smile. The warmth of his fingers shocks Eddie when he gently grabs the knife from his hand.
Eddie watches curiously as Steve turns to one of his crew mates, hands her the knife and then starts talking with his hands, well, that's what Eddie assumes is happening because the girl nods in understanding and rushes off to do whatever the captain said. He turns back to Eddie with a bright smile but Eddie can't stop staring at his hands. What was that?
"My name is Steve. What's your name?" Steve says the words out loud and with his hands, it both confuses and intrigues Eddie.
"Teach me that." He rushes out and points at Steve's hands, completely ignoring the captain's question.
Steve tilts his head in confusion, his brows furrowed and his eyes focused on Eddie's lips. His stare makes Eddie feel squirmy and he curls his lip to reveal sharp teeth to show Steve he doesn't like the attention. The captain doesn't get the memo and just stares harder.
"Talk slower. I can't hear you." He points to his ear and suddenly everything makes sense. Why Steve wasn’t affected by his song, why he didn't hear the crew screaming in the night when they were attacked last week. Eddie had almost been ready to climb aboard to wake the sleeping captain but the girl with the short hair had gone to fetch him just in time.
Eddie grabbed the edge of the small boat he was in and leaned closer to Steve, he was very aware that if the crew let go of the rope he'd go crashing back down to the sea but none of them moved. All their eyes watched the strange exchange between their captain and the siren that had been following them like a shadow.
"Teach me how to talk to you. I want to learn." And he does. Something about this human intrigues him. Why else would he follow him across the sea? If he were anyone else, Eddie would have slit his throat and dragged him down to the depths by now, but this captain is special.
He's decided that Steve will be his and his alone. Eddie always gets what he wants and what he wants is to learn Steve inside and out. Which includes learning this new language.
"OK, I'll teach you." Steve says with a nod.
Eddie smiles triumphantly, his sharp teeth on full display. "Great. Lessons start now." He looks pointedly at the space across from him in the small boat and Steve only hesitates for a moment before awkwardly climbing in.
"Tie it off and get back to work." He yells out to his crew without taking his eyes off Eddie, whose long tail is curled behind Steve. They sit in tense silence, Eddie's long nails tap tap tapping on the side of the boat before Steve sighs and says, "We'll start with the basics."
"Whatever you say, Captain."
The language is hard and Steve often laughs at Eddie when he angrily shakes his hands when he doesn't get the sign right.
But Eddie's determined to get it right because he's now one step closer to getting what he wants, and what he wants is Steve all to himself.

Oh, I have an idea for a Mermay! If you would like to write it: merformers Megatron being tangled in a net or something and the waves threw him on the beach and he can't go back to water. When the (gn) reader finds him he's scared that they will use his vulnerable moment to hurt him but they go like: "Wow! You're gorgeous! Oh! And you need my help!" And they help untangle him and roll him back to the sea. What do you think?
Absolutely! Mermay may have passed but I'll still be answering these asks because I'm slow, so don't worry if you left any but I haven't answered yet! Also feel free to leave more as it turns out I really like writing merbots!
Apologies for the low writing volume as of late, the hits just keep on coming, and with my area of the country taking wildfire smoke I swear thinking has never felt more difficult...
Tumblr media
Megatron was certain he was done for.
He should have known his fate was sealed the moment the harpoon had pierced his side, especially with the weight of a powerful net dragging on his every move and tangling his limbs the more he struggled, but he'd dared to hope he had a chance after managing to swim away. It was only when exhaustion had allowed the waves to force him to shore, his colossal frame crashing against the rocks in a heap so tangled he was effectively immobilized, that he had accepted the inevitable. All the weary old mech could hope for now was to be finished off by the harpoon before he was discovered by those who'd wounded him.
Memories of a long, violent life played before his optics as the waters receded and the stars began to fade with the arrival of the day, the cries of seagulls growing louder as they woke to feed and curiously circled overhead. It wasn't the end he'd wanted, but it also didn't surprise him in the slightest. He'd never been able to find peace, as the scars across his frame could attest, so he could have predicted his spark extinguishing under such painful circumstances. Perhaps the Allspark would finally allow him to rest...
He was so exhausted he barely heard the soft patter of bare feet approaching over stone and sand.
You had been hoping to find treasures from the sea along the rocky shore when you'd woken up well before the crack of dawn, but as you approached the massive unknown thing that had washed up overnight, you couldn't have prepared for what greeted the beam from your flashlight. Silver armor tangled within the heaviest netting you'd ever seen was all you could make out at first, but more careful observations revealed a fluke the size of a large tree trunk, atop which you found a massive metal torso with its limbs bound at the front. Your heart hammered as you approached despite your better judgment, some unspeakable instinct telling you that the being before you was in a great deal of pain. You realized you were beholding a real live Thalassicon the moment your light found his face and he opened a pair of brilliant red optics, their pale iris constricting then dilating as they focused on your eyes. Fear reflected between the both of you in equal measure.
When he returned to his prone position as if to surrender without a fight, you caught a wince of pain and a pink glow along his side, which brought your eyes and the flashlight beam to a massive harpoon jutting from behind his arm. Instinctive concern welled up within you, and the haggard breaths from his vents made you certain he was enduring a great deal of agony despite his calm appearance. No amount of common sense could compel you to leave anyone to so much suffering. Coming round to his head, you aimed the flashlight to the ground so as not to strain his optics.
"Do you... need help?" you asked uncertainly, not sure how to better phrase the question.
He looked back at you, making a sound like a strained scoff of disbelief. His voice rumbled like a heavy wave rolling over a rocky shore as he rested his helm against the stone. "Would it matter if I did?"
"I... think so? Because I can probably help you out a bit." you said, getting a bit more of a hold over yourself. It seemed likely that you could help him escape the net, but you were going to need him to work with you, and even if he'd given up you weren't about to just let him die. Loving the ocean extended to everything living within, and that included Thalassicons, as alien to the planet as they may have been. Reaching for the tiny toolkit you kept in your bag, you were surprised when the production of a small knife made the mech tense in alarm.
"Why are you here? Are more of you coming?" he asked with his full attention on the little blade. It wasn't enough to do more than cause him a minor bit of harm, but as he'd already endured plenty of that, he had no interest in letting blind trust cost him an optic. You seemed surprised and confused by the question, which ironically made him trust that you weren't planning any harm. Humans had never bothered to feign kindness for him anyway.
"There might be more people coming once the sun actually comes up, but I tend to be the only one up this early." you explained, trying to answer the question as best you could. The answer made him tilt his helm and raise a brow, compelling you to elaborate further. "Now's the best time to collect shells. The tide is going out, but no one else is up yet. Anyway, I just got this knife, let me see if it's sharp enough to cut you free."
"You're very trusting. Are you not afraid of my kind?" he asked before you could begin, giving you a bit of pause. The whole situation was odd, but you were quite perplexed as to why this very obviously struggling bot would try so hard to convince you not to help him. It only made you all the more determined to help, but it seemed you would need to convince him not only of your intentions, but to work with you to save himself.
"I've never actually met a Thalassicon before, but you all don't seem to start fights with humans most of the time." you said as you put the flashlight down and aimed it over where you'd be working. Dropping to your knees but keeping a final foot of space between you both, you held up your tiny knife and gestured to his tangled limbs, certain you could work at least one free with enough cutting. "If I help you get your arms free, can you pull yourself out of this net?"
Still burnt out on hope, Megatron didn't dare to believe he was really getting out of this situation, but decided he had nothing better to do than play along. Even if you were some kind of government agent playing a long game, it was more interesting to see what your plan was than to wait to bleed to death. Flexing his arms to test the net's resistance, he found them folded against his front but otherwise unharmed, and while he was incapable of reaching the harpoon he had no doubt he could untangle himself if even one limb was freed. "Possibly." he conceded, remaining limp so that you could work.
"Worth a try, then." you said with a bit of inflated confidence, still unable to believe what you had gotten yourself into. Biting your lip and committing to your desire to help, you grabbed a random section of net and began to cut. Straight away you found progress to be definite but slow, the sharp blade taking its sweet time to carve through the reinforced material even as you pushed the sharpened edge down with all of your strength. "Ugh, this might take a second, these are some seriously thick ropes."
"Take all the time you need, I'm certainly not going anywhere." he replied with a sarcastic flop of his fluke against the stones, emphasizing his lack of options. You'd have possibly found it funny were you not carving through the stubborn netting with all of your strength, jaw set tight and brows furrowed in deep concentration as you looked for possible shortcuts. It wasn't like you had all the time in the world to cut him loose. The sun would soon be peeking over the horizon, and when it did you had no doubt that other humans would be coming to the beach, some of whom you couldn't trust not to sound the alarm. Many members of your species looked on his with open fear and boundless hostility.
"Hold on, if I'm able to tear this one... ouch!" you hissed as the knife nicked your palm, compelling on you to suck at the little cut before getting back to work. Your lack of hesitation to push on surprised him even more than your initial offer of aid, and for the first time he dared to believe you might be genuine in your desire to help. He could already feel his arm gaining wiggle room with every sliced rope, the heavy weight around his limbs needing only a little bit more of a reduction before he was confident his strength would prove sufficient to break free. Sweat had begun to bead on your forehead when you gave a growl of frustration and sliced through two more holes to free his arm. "Just one second, I've almost got it... there! Can you help me work your arm out?"
"Yes, one moment." he said, barely hiding the anticipation he couldn't suppress. Still mostly immobilized, he tried to work his arm free with a shift of his shoulders, only to receive a lightning bolt of pain as the harpoon was jostled by the movement. Roaring in agony, he went limp save for a full body shudder of pain, fresh energon flowing down his side.
You jumped to help but pulled back when he hissed in instinctive fear, vents coming in hard and fast before the initial burst of pain began to fade and he calmed down. Looking around for potential witnesses with growing concern for the lack of time, you finally settled on the only thing you had resembling a plan, ignoring every bit of common sense you had saying it was a bad idea. "Would it help if that thing came out first?"
"It... it might. But I cannot reach it." he said weakly, once more feeling the urge to lie limp and allow fate to claim him. You'd proven an interesting diversion from his demise, but it was physically impossible for him to free himself. Between the restraint and the agony he felt when trying to move, there was nothing his great strength could do for him, and the steady flow of energon from his wound was taking even that away. Self repair couldn't initiate with the offending projectile still lodged under his armor.
"How deep is it? If it doesn't need too much of a pull, I can probably take it out." you offered, self preservation briefly taking a backseat to concern. It wasn't fair for anyone to suffer like this, and despite the danger you felt compelled to do whatever a squishy human body could to help. The Thalassicon stiffened at the suggestion, compelling you to drop to your knees and talk face to face to convince him you meant no harm. This wasn't something you could attempt without his full cooperation. "Do you trust me to do that?"
Megatron was silent as he eyed you up and down, looking for signs of the betrayal he'd been certain was coming but finding only earnest desperation in your face. It would be foolish to take you up on your offer considering his history with your kind, but with the harpoon scraping his insides during every ventilation, he was compelled once more to accept out of a lack of alternate options. All you could really do was help him, or end him that much quicker.
"I cannot leave while it's there, I suppose I have little choice." he muttered bitterly, distrust coloring every word to make it apparent this wasn't a choice he enjoyed. It wasn't an enthusiastic assent, but you took it regardless, stepping back to try and figure out how to best approach the problem when the mech spoke up with far more force. A piercing look from his bright red optics made you flinch with each harsh syllable. "Just be quick about it, and know I will take you with me if you get any ideas."
"Okay. Fair enough. I'll climb on up, just hang tight." you conceded quickly, hands up in a brief gesture of surrender to show you understood. One thrash of his massive tail could easily turn you to paste, so you were equally serious in your promise not to try anything unexpected. Fully aware of his optics watching your every move, you climbed up his shoulder by using the net as a makeshift climbing aid and his armor as handholds, following the trail of bleeding energon until you arrived at his back.
When you stood up to face the harpoon for inspection, you were shocked to find it jutting out as far as you were tall, the heavy metal gleaming even in the darkness as if it was smelted from something unnatural. Ignoring the chill the weapon created in your gut, you angled your phone light to try and get a better idea of how to proceed. The sight of the ragged wound torn into his armor made you flinch in sympathy, and even without medical experience you could tell it had been yanked about as the mech had struggled against his attempted captors. The painful site left you stumped until you realized the roughness of the wound would actually work in your favor. Struggling hadn't just moved the harpoon, it had pulled it most of the way out, far enough that you were confident in your ability to pull it the rest of the way.
"I'll try to remove it as fast as I can, I'm sorry if this hurts." you said as you grabbed the frigid piece of metal, hoping you sounded confident just for his sake. All of him stiffened beneath you, but he made no further movements, remaining silent as you secured your grip and set your feet.
"Okay. Here I go!" you announced as you sucked in a breath, clenching your shoulders before you pulled with all of your might. At first you felt nothing but his tremble of pain, which compelled you to square your jaw and lean backwards so your weight could assist, every ounce of your willpower pouring itself into the task at hand. After a few unproductive moments the harpoon slid an inch upwards, compelling you to double down until your knuckles paled and veins throbbed along your skin. The Thalassicon hissed when you felt something under the surface give way, and the weapon popped free of the wound in a single motion that sent you toppling backwards just as the mech arched his frame and roared in pain.
Soft sand met your back as you were thrown clear, the harpoon clattering over the stones as you sat up in a daze to find the mech tearing from the net and standing upright on his tail as he shredded the restraints with a growl and tossed the remains aside. The sudden show of motion was reassuring, but the sight of fresh energon running down his side made you fear you'd only made the situation much worse. "It's bleeding, did I make it worse?!"
Your words seemed to surprise him, almost as if he'd forgotten you were there in the rush, but he turned and gingerly probed the wound with much more freedom of movement than he'd had before. "No... It will clear itself and then my self repair will begin..." he explained, relaxing his mighty shoulders as the fact he'd be okay settled over you both. Now able to see the full extent of his size and strength, you felt even smaller as he dropped back down onto his front to speak to you, expression softening in relief and gratitude as he met your gaze. "Thank you. I would not have survived if that remained in my hide."
"Don't mention it." you replied breathlessly, surprising him once more as you made no attempt to request a reward for your services. Rather, you looked at him with concern, your eyes lingering on his injuries as you picked yourself up off the sand. "Are you... good to go? The beach will probably start to see its first visitors before long."
"I can see myself off. For your own sake, it is best you pretend we didn't meet." he answered quickly, pushing himself along the rocks until he came to the edge. For all of his desire to know more about the most peculiar human he'd ever met, it was better for both of you if he cleared out quickly. There was no telling what his attempted captors would do to those who aided him, and you didn't seem like the type to leave well enough alone even if your life was on the line. Knowing that didn't stop him from hesitating as he planned the best way to drop into the dark water below.
"Oh... okay." you said, unable to keep the disappointment from your voice. You'd come to the beach with the intention of finding some beautiful sea life, and while you'd succeeded, it was still hard to accept this one wouldn't be coming home with you. Unwilling to let him go straight away, you stalled with another glance at his injuries, hoping that even if you didn't see him again you would know he was safe out there. "Are you sure you're okay? That looks really bad."
"I have endured far worse, it will heal." he promised, already planning to seek out the deep sea supplies he knew would help him heal. Compared to what he'd suffered before at the hands of humans and bots alike, this was nothing now that he had the freedom to move and swim. The news made you smile, and his spark was so softened by your continued compassion he couldn't bear to leave without some show of gratitude. "Before I leave, allow me to introduce myself. You can call me Megatron."
"Nice to meet you, I'm Y/N." you replied eagerly, wishing the first tendrils of the sunrise shining over the ocean would give you just a few more minutes. Unable to think of all you wanted to say, you ignored the hurt in your heart to bid him farewell, putting your wishes into words so they might come true. "I hope I can see you again sometime, under better circumstances."
"Perhaps, if fate allows. It would not be in your best interest, however." he replied much more sagely, swinging his tail over the edge but holding on with his upper arms. In the moments before he descended further, the position allowed the two of you to come face to face once more, and it was his turn to smile fondly as you bid him farewell.
"I don't really mind. Safe travels, Megatron."

Heartbreak in the Sea
Well, here is a merman Eddie/human Steve AU. I’ve never actually read any mermay prompts but I plan on getting a mermaid/siren tattoo soon so I guess this was meant to be! Thank you to @mentallyundone for sending me the prompt. I hope this meets your expectations!
~*~*~*~
The only thing Steve had to look forward to was seeing the beautiful merman on the beach. He didn’t care about his ship work anymore, his friends back on the mainland, or even the treasure his crew hoped to find. All he could focus on was the next time he could talk to Eddie, the most beautiful man in the sea.
He’d met him by accident when his crew had become stranded on an island vacated by men long ago. Ever since that fateful day, the merman had been on his mind nearly every second of every day. Steve could picture his ink black hair glistening with sea water under the light of the moon. He could imagine his spiked black and silver tail resting on the rocks as he spoke to Steve about the happenings of other ships and the kingdoms underwater. Most of all, Steve could imagine his smile and the playful glint in his eye as he sang his siren tune.
Over time, his memory faded away. Steve forgot his favorite song and the names of his friends back home. He forgot the best courses to sail and even the name of his ship. He just couldn’t seem to grasp any information that wasn't related to merfolk on that isolated beach. The only thing on his mind was Eddie.
Steve thought the merman would be happy to hear how often he plagued his mind but instead, Eddie looked distressed. His smile dimmed to a broken frown and his eyes filled with salty tears.
“Hey, what’s wrong? Everything’s okay, I love thinking about you.” Steve told him softly.
But Eddie just shook his head, “Stevie, you don’t love thinking about me, it’s a curse. I talked to you too much, I exposed you to my world. Don’t you get it, I’ve sentenced you to death, my love.”
The words threatened to break Steve’s bliss but they just couldn’t make it through the hazy cloud of ‘Eddie, Eddie, Eddie’. “That’s okay, as long as I get to spend time with you, I will be pleased.”
Eddie looked distraught the rest of his visit and even afterwards, he watched Steve board his ship in worry. He knew the stories of what happened to humans after spending too much time with the merfolk and yet he still dragged Steve into it.
Steve, the beautiful Steve Harrington, his Stevie that could do no wrong. He was going to die because Eddie had been selfish. He just couldn’t leave the pirate alone, too drawn in by his human charms. And now he was going to lose him.
On a random night, the thoughts of Eddie grew too strong for Steve to withstand. His memory was gone and his common sense was shattered. He had to get to Eddie, he had to find him. So, he pulled on his coat and walked out of his quarters on the ship he no longer recognized. He stood at the railing for a moment and looked at the tempestuous sea. The moon illuminated the harsh waves as if as a beacon, beckoning Steve closer on his quest to find his merman. He had but a single whisper in response.
“I’m coming, Eddie.”
He leapt from the ship and hit the freezing water. His body froze as the ice gripped his lungs. Steve knew deep down that he’d made a mistake. The curse cleared at once but he couldn’t swim against the paralyzing cold. Eventually, he breathed in the freezing water and drowned to a painful death. In his mind, he could still see Eddie. He imagined what they could have been in his last moments had he been born to the sea or if Eddie had been born on the land. But alas, it just wasn’t meant to be. Not in this world but maybe in the next.
Eddie never again saw his pirate love. He would search along the ship routes and even ventured close to the lands that Steve mentioned frequenting but he could never find him. He spent the rest of his life searching the seas for Steve, hoping against all hope that he would find the man he loved. He never did though and he died just a few years later of a broken heart. Thus, the story ended in tragedy for yet another pair of star-crossed lovers whose love was doomed from the start.

Mermay Week Four: Siren! Asami
When you first see her, it's just a flash of ruby beneath the surface. You believe it might be treasure—precious jewels sparking below the waves, revealing remnants of what was once lost at sea. You move closer to get a better look, and discover that you were right; it is treasure. Far beyond what you could have imagined. She is a dream. A divine, miraculous dream. You lean dangerously far over the edge of your boat, coming face to face. Through the water you gaze at her, and she gazes back, equally curious. You find yourself wondering how she could be real—if she is real. Her ivory skin, flushed pink, is contrasted by her raven hair. The jade of her eyes is almost luminous, shining as if it were a beacon for lost souls. Her dark lips, painted red with the color of lust, are calling to you. Without thinking, you close the gap. Your face dips below the water as your lips blindly search for hers, and for a split second, you believe that you've succeeded—but the kiss is just as fleeting as it is euphoric. In the same moment, her hands have already snaked around your neck, pulling you overboard. The last breath that you'll ever take has been already siphoned from your lips.

mmmmmm I truly can't decide between Narnia merpirate (because that sounds AWESOME) and Narnia souvenir (because it's so mysterious)
- ciar
Thank you for the ask! Merpirate is based on this aesthetic I made for MerMay last year. Sadly it is not about mermaid pirates, but about a merman (Edmund, shapeshifted into a human and pretending to be a shipwreck victim to get aboard Caspian's ship) and a pirate (Caspian, hoping Edmund's a mermaid anyway because mermaids are said to collect treasure). They're both trying to gain the other's trust so they can rob them. Neither one plans on developing real feelings...
It gets rather dramatic, and Edmund's siblings get involved, and the last line of my notes is "caspian goes back to his ship with a co-captain and three feral extras, and did you know? having 4 sirens around lets you hunt and rob so many more ships and they all end up so rich". So I guess there are mermaid pirates in it after all!
Across the deck, Edmund stood backlit against the setting sun.
He tossed aside his right-hand sword and wiped a smear of blood from the corner of his open mouth. Caspian had given him only one blade, but he’d found another in the midst of battle, and wielded both easily. Though he used no style Caspian knew, he'd clearly learned somewhere, and he was fast, a snarling shadow streaking over the deck. More than one soldier had surrendered before Edmund got anywhere near them.
The sword he’d dropped had been from the Dawn Treader’s armory; he examined the one he still held. His lips were still parted as he panted softly. He ran thoughtful fingers over the jewels inlaid in the sword’s golden pommel and quillons, shimmering blue-black as the sea and scarlet as blood, and then his sharp teeth glittered as he grinned.
Caspian’s head was full of the setting sun. There were no thoughts, only thick, burning red. Edmund looked up, as though sensing his gaze, and grinned at Caspian—almost exactly as he’d been grinning at the sword. His raw delight was too great to be smothered into his usual careful smirk. His death-pale cheeks looked almost human for once, flushed with exertion, but the shadows turned his eyes into dark, unreadable pits. The dying sun outlined him in gold.
"Souvenir" on the other hand, is more a canon divergence than a full au, with the Pevensies staying in Narnia to rule with Caspian, and featuring my completely wild rarepair, Susan x Liliandil.
Peter and Susan did not go on the voyage to the East. Caspian was the one who had sworn at his coronation to find the lost lords that his uncle had sent away. These days, where Caspian went, Edmund went too (Susan wondered if they would have finally realized their feelings by the time they got back), and Lucy was alight with curiosity about the utter East: strange lands, far seas, perhaps even Aslan’s country itself.
But someone had to run Narnia while half her royals sailed. No one knew how far they would travel, or how long till they returned; of course the High King could not go. And Susan was too fond of her comforts to really enjoy a long sea voyage into the unknown. One warrior, and one diplomat—they would manage their kingdom fine.
“Bring me a souvenir from the utter East,” Susan teased her family as she hugged them goodbye, swallowing her jealousy, her fear.
She did not expect them to bring her back a star.

🥥🏝🌤 - My own prompt ❤✨ (for filling some space)
Travelerji/Merxian AU See the first four prompts here.
-
The Taste of Home
Lan Wangji quietly scraped flesh from the coconuts he’d gathered, every now and then glancing out at the sea with a forlorn sigh. It’d been many days now since his supposed ‘bad luck’ began. He decided to stay put for a while, gathering supplies, repairing his ship…cloud watching.
He leaned back against the palm tree he ate under, watching the clouds shift and looking for pictures through the leaves. He could see fish, occasional birds, and other random shapes he couldn’t quite lay his fingers on.
He paused after bringing a piece of coconut to his mouth, the taste bringing memories of something from his childhood.
His mother used to make dragon’s beard candy, filled with peanuts and coconut, and it was so impossibly sweet but oh how he loved it.
It was such a strenuous task too; he couldn’t help with his smaller arms, and since his father was away a lot of the time, just the three of them did it together- him, his brother, and his mother. It was much too hard for the twins, so really it was all her…but it still felt like they did it together.
He could remember his mother’s laughter, how he acted so aloof and embarrassed with her affections but how much he really looked forward to their time together. His mother brought them so much joy, and then when she never came back, why did his father have to go, too?
Lan Wangji sighed and laid his arm over his eyes, blocking out the sun. Well, that’s what he convinced himself it was for, as something salty fell down his cheeks.
Splash!
Lan Wangji startled upright and uncovered his eyes, watching as something blue and black disappeared into the depths of the ocean. What was that? He jumped up, fully intent on running after it at first, but then paused as he saw sand dollars, sea shells, and pearls.
He looked back out to the sea, wondering if he could find the mysterious being, but upon seeing nothing lingering anymore he instead knelt down to see what had been left on the shore. He couldn’t help but continue to cry, but at least now it was in relief.
He knelt in the sand, and one by one collected the gifts on the shore.
Gifts.
They’re gifts.
Lan Wangji smiled subtly and carefully placed each trinket into his carrying pouch, each little item a priceless treasure. He sniffed and wiped his eyes with the back of his wrist, doing his best to collect himself, although it took some time.
Wei Wuxian smiled tiredly, settling into the sand on the ocean floor to watch the traveler scavenge for his gifts.

From the recent mermaid ask game 1, 8 and 10?
I love MerMay and this prompt list looks great!
Thanks any if its a no, 🫧 bubble anon🫧
Hi Bubble Anon! I’d love to! Thanks for requesting this, here you go!
From this ask game
Whumper strode along the beach, looking out at the water, the sun giving it a beautiful shimmer. Whumper often liked to come here to admire the scenery and look for seashells. Whumper carried a bag with them to collect the little treasures they found in the sand. Little did they know that today’s find would be much better than a seashell.
Whumper was just about to pick up a sand dollar when something glittery caught their eye. Whumper strode closer and just barely stifled a gasp. Sharp rocks trapped a resplendent fish’s tail. There was red seeping out of it, and on the other side of the tail was the upper half of a person. Their breathing was labored and shallow, and their eyes were closed. Their long, wet hair clung to their face, and their webbed ears poked out between the strands. Sparkling scales decorated their upper half here and there. They were the most stunning creature Whumper had ever seen.
Whumper gingerly climbed over the rocks to where the merperson lay. They slowly and carefully freed the merperson’s tail from its trap. They lifted the merperson in a bridal carry. The blood from their tail dribbled onto Whumper’s skin, but Whumper didn’t care. To them, even their blood was beautiful.
Whumper turned back the way they had come, carrying the unconscious merperson with them. It was as if the sea had dropped off a gift just for them, and Whumper intended to take very good care of it.
Whumpee stirred against something hard. They opened their eyes to a plain, white bathroom. Whumpee looked around in confusion, their head whipping around when they heard the sound of a door opening.
“Oh my,” a stranger said, “you’re awake.”
The stranger bent down against the rim of the bathtub, which Whumpee realized they were laying in, and reached out to stroke Whumpee’s hair. Whumpee flinched back, their tail splashing in the water.
“Oh no, darling, don’t do that!” the stranger said quickly, “you’ll aggravate things.”
Whumpee followed the stranger’s gaze to their tail. There were soft, white bandages wrapped snugly around it. Whumpee looked back at the stranger with wide, fearful eyes.
“Don’t look so frightened,” the stranger cooed, “I’m not going to hurt you. I spent a good half-hour tending to you.”
“Who-” Whumpee swallowed, “who are you? Where am I?”
“My name is Whumper,” the stranger answered, “and you’re home, little one.”
“Home?”
Whumper nodded, a sparkle in their eye.
“The bathroom is only temporary, of course,” Whumper said, “I’ve already ordered better living arrangements for you. The tank should be here in a few days.”
“Tank?” Whumpee asked, “I don’t understand-”
“Don’t you?” Whumper tilted their head, “I’ve rescued you from the harsh, unforgiving sea. You’re going to live with me now, safe and cared for.”
“Wha- no!” Whumpee cried, “no, I have to get back. I have to go home. Please, take me home!”
“Little one, you are home,” Whumper said, standing up, “you need to accept that, or you won’t acclimate as well.”
Whumper started to leave. When they got to the door, they turned to look at Whumpee.
“I’m going to go do some research, but I’ll be back soon,” Whumper promised.
Whumper closed the door behind them. Whumpee looked around the small bathroom again. Their breaths came in short gasps and their eyes went wide. They were trapped, and there was nothing they could do about it.

Mermay related thought: going diving to see a shipwreck but it turns out to actually be a resting mer-transformer and you both accidentally scare each other.
Okay this is so WHOLESOME I can seriously see the entire thing playing out! Human is a professional diver with a love for bringing up treasures and artifacts and has a boat with a sonar sensor. One day they detect some kind of large item within diving range and think "Sweet, new discovery!" before putting down an anchor and suiting up for a dive.
Unbeknownst to this human, there's no treasure or sunken ships awaiting them. A merformer simply needed to rest and found a nice spot in comparatively shallow water for a power down. They're curled up on the sea floor amidst a forest of undersea greenery and stones, making it impossible to identify them as anything more than an apparent mass of metal in the dim light. It doesn't help that they pulled seaweed around themselves like a giant blanket.
Human grows perplexed as they begin to swim around the shape and realize it's not built like any kind of vessel they're familiar with. Eventually they begin to explore more up close, unknowingly swimming around to the bots front where they spot something like arms. Brushing away the seaweed for a better look startles the poor bot, and the sight of two bright optics flashing on in the dim light terrifies the diver just as deeply. Both parties swim away from the other in a panic, but of course the much larger bot sends the human spinning with their wake, something they notice once they get their wits about them and realize there's no threat.
Bot immediately feels guilty and helps human right themselves, and escorts them back to the surface when it becomes clear humans can't speak underwater. A host of apologies are exchanged, and when it's explained what the human was looking for the still regretful merformer produces some trinkets they pulled from an actual shipwreck as an apology. Human is delighted but says no payment is needed, though the bot insists and eventually the two get to talking about the ocean and the sights they've seen within.
As both are quite lonely, this immediately sparks a friendship. The human doesn't relate much to their kind, and the poor bot doesn't have many other merformers to hang out with on Earth. Eventually they decide they'd like to see one another again, and the bot even accompanies the human all the way to their dock to keep the conversation going... If they live on their boat, they might just have a little sleepover.
I can't even imagine how cute this might be. Swimming together, bot giving the human rides and showing them the best shipwrecks, the human bringing them fun things from land... All of it develops into the cutest romance.

Mermay, but the theme is "Drought". Y'all should look up Egypt's Valley of the Whales. It's a site that once was the sea bed a long time back. They have fossils of pre-evolved whales. It's a real treasure trove to researchers. Also, artists' takes on mermaid skeletons is pretty neat even if it's far from accurate.

in honor of the final days of mermay, might i request my Top Four Favorite Boys (raihan, emmet, guzma, and kukui) finding a mer stranded away from water? can turn romantic if u want !
ooh, mermaids are my favorite!!
🍓🍓🍓
Raihan:
It was a cloudy day in Hulbury, meaning not a lot of people we're out and about. Raihan's Goodra adored the wet weather, though, so Raihan was happy to walk through the rain with his Pokémon so it could have some fun. The fun was short lived, though, when they heard a weak cry coming from some tall grass near the beach.
Investigating, Raihan was shocked to find what looked like a person, but where their legs should be, there was a long, scaly tail. Fins decorated the persons limbs, and clusters of scales dotted their skin.
Their eyes found Raihan weakly, and they reached for the sea behind them. Raihan understood immediately, scooping the person up so he could rush them to the water. Goodra followed, spritzing the person with water to help relieve them on the journey
Once back in the sea, the person sighed, soaking in water they were without for so long. With a weak voice, they explain that a frightened Pokémon had knocked them onto the land, and they didn't have the strength to drag themselves all the way back to the water. As thanks, they dive into the water and retrieve pearls and other lost items for Raihan. He almost didn't take them, but the idea of coming back for more, as the person promised, was too good to be true. He was too curious of this person to turn them down, and besides, Goodra liked them a lot. Can't say no to a Pokémon's wants
Emmet:
Emmet's trip to the beach with Ingo and Elesa was a great way to unwind. If only his brother and friend weren't homebodies that just wanted to lie on the beach and read a book for so long. Emmet had to occupy himself, so with Eelektross on the prowl, the two searched the beach for eager trainers or strong Pokémon to battle.
As they got farther away from where the people were staying, Emmet started to hear a faint noise. Weak, but audible, was a sad song. Eelektross heard it too, and became frantic as it tried to find the source of the sound. It's panic ignited Emmet's, and the pair searched the grass and sand for the creature in need of help
What they found was a merperson, drying out in the sand. Their fins appeared brittle, tail stiff as they tried weakly to move towards the sea. Emmet was shocked, but then quickly scooped the person up, rushing them back into the water. Eelektross joined them in the water, swimming around them as Emmet sat in the sand and cradled the weak person readjusting to being back in the sea.
They smiled at him, thanked him in a weak voice, and promised to bring a reward if Emmet was willing to wait for a moment. Emmet refused any reward, however, and instead asked questions. Who were they, how did they end up stranded, were they hurt? The merperson took their time answering his questions, telling him about the world beneath the waves that they were a part of. It sounded magical, and Eelektross cooed at the very idea. Emmet wanted to see it as well, so the merperson offered to take them. After all, a kiss from a mermaid can turn a person into a mer as well, so why not their kiss do the same? Emmet had no qualms whatsoever
Guzma:
It wasn't unusual to find weird things on the beach in Alola, stuff people had lost in the ocean, left to float along until it found a beach to rest on. Guzma and the Team Skull grunts often spent slow days combing the beach for treasures, something to do when there was nothing else to occupy them
Of course, none of them were expecting to find a person among the treasures, much less a person with a tail and scales and fins, whimpering and begging them for help. Guzma ushered the grunts around, everyone chipping in to help lift the person and place them back in the water. They sighed as they were met with the cool sea, and smiled at the grunts gathering around them, eyes wide and questions lining their tongues
Guzma shooed them off, making them give the person space as they readjusted to the water once more. Carefully, whilst propped against Guzma's chest, they explained that they had gotten caught in a fishing net, brought into shore for some reason or another. They had managed to escape the net, but they were stranded in the sand, too weak to crawl back into the water, to home
The mention of "home" started a whole new slew of questions, some even Guzma himself had. The person just laughed, and answered them best they could. Guzma traces their scale-littered skin as they did, wondering if they would stick around. The grunts liked them, and he was curious too. A world full of merpeople? It sounded like something out of a fairytale but. . . here you were. A fairytale alive. Yeah, he'd have to come back and meet you again, with or without the grunts
Kukui:
Kukui studied water Pokémon, but fish could be difficult with how they couldn't leave the water. So he often found himself at the beach, battling with the fish to understand their move sets better. Today was no different, except on his way to the secluded cove they would use for battling, Kukui found something startling
A person, laying against the rocks, with a long fish tail. They were tangled up in a net, caught on ledges that held them out of the water. Kukui wasted no time rushing to them, using his Pokémon to help cut them loose. They weren't dying thankfully, the water's spay able to keep them somewhat hydrated, but they were clearly not meant to be only slightly wet. So with a grand effort, Kukui cut the net, and the person fell into the water with a mighty splash
Kukui threw off his coat and dived in after them, scared that they were hurt still. His Pokémon swam around him, helping him locate the person drifting along with the currents. He wrapped his arms around them, and broke to the surface, cradling them so they wouldn't get washed away somewhere else dangerous
With a weak voice, the person thanked Kukui, their skin not covered with scales rubbed red and raw from the bite of the net. Kukui tries his best to help heal them, trying potions and berries, but it doesn't help entirely. Still, the person is grateful, and offers their services to him to help repay him. All Kukui asks is that they come back so he knows their okay. He's down at this cove every other day, so he's easy to find if they show up too. They agree, and on their first return meeting, bring with them a shiny Feebas. Kukui was smitten immediately
🍓🍓🍓
