The Pawleys Island sea urchin shell. This is where it all started in 1996. Rick and I had recently located to the Lowcountry of South Carolina, and I brought my art and jewelry education with me. Mom’s 81st Birthday spent on Jocassee. It was a good day to take in the beauty and be in the now. My dad enjoyed this lake and would have LOVED this day. Perhaps he was the breeze that kept us comfortable all day...Jocassee is thought to mean “place of the lost one” and yet I go here to feel a part of something bigger. Connectedness to the water and mountains. Jocassee is a confluence of rivers that unite under the lake. Confluence is one of my favorite words. It is union. Being involved in something together, feeling something together, experiencing togetherness, we feel safer, stronger and we transcend the limits of self. Today was just that. I am thankful.
