John Dair

John Dair was a minor Scottish fat actor who only has 32 credits in his filmography. He often played big scary guys on British TV.

John Dair first appeared on screen in the British TV show, Porridge, a prison comedy starring Ronnie Barker in 1975. He appeared in 3 of the 20 episodes. The first 2 photos are from Porridge and the 3rd is from an episode of Sykes in 1978. Next photo is from an episode of Last of the Summer Wine in 1979.

This photo is from the set of the movie Porridge in 1979, now entitled Doing Time. Pictured is Ronnie Barker and John Dair.

Above is a scene from episode 1;3 of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe in 1981.

Most people know John Dair from the initial video for Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood in 1984. The video disappeared after the song was banned in England just as it hit number one in the charts. The video most people remember is the one that featured cuts from the film Body Double that featured the song.

Ronald Eaglesham Porter (and why I hate him)

Ron Donachie: born 1956, Scottish actor. Big built, balding head, beefy, lovely voice. A man with a natural air of authority (and often plays policemen and prison guards).

I mean, look at the man: broad shouldered, as masculine as they come, brutally handsome.

Not a man you'd mess with. Just the kind of man who floats my boat, so to speak... Just look at those eyes.

So why do I hate him? Simple: he's big, beefy, handsome, balding, has a great voice... Do I need to go on? Oh, yes, he can act as well. And he had a number 1 hit in the early eighties with The Flying Picketts.

I mean, how comes he gets it all? And, what's more, apparently he's a really nice man as well. With a very winning smile.

And looks dashing with a neatly-trimmed beard. I mean... Jealous? Me?

Sorry, Ronald. You're definitely off my Christmas card list,,, probably... possibly...
