We have a new game going on in our @scoganbingo discord server, called Mood Board Madness. In this, people post various mood boards, inviting other users to post fanworks for them.

What can I say, @mischief-and-tea-by-the-sea 's board has been living rent free in my head since last night so I just had to scribble up something real fast :D.

"You know, if anyone told me you'd become an even worse neat freak once you get that nuke in your head under control, I'd have asked Hank to never suggest that surgery." Grumbling to himself, a half empty beer bottle on his lips, Logan watched as his boyfriend continued to polish down every inch of the red coating of one of his favorite cars unfazed, instead of doing something actually fun, like spending a Saturday morning off in bed with Logan.

The only positive detail of finding Scott here busy with one of his many obsessions was the fact that his partner had obviously started feeling too hot at some point, spending the morning with one of his beloved wheeled babies and shed his shirt, leaving his well-trained upper body bare save for a few stains of grease and dirt. A mouthwatering sight, just like Scott being bent over the hood of that damn car in a perfect angle to ogle that firm piece of ass Logan happened to be so increasingly fond of … But with Scott so dedicated to this dull activity, all of that was frustratingly out of reach.

"What did you expect?" In a gesture still deeply ingrained in muscle memory, Scott made a move to push up glasses no longer shielding those beautiful sky-blue eyes of his, a slightly embarrassed grin on his lips as he nodded down to the car's perfectly shiny surface. "Now that I can actually see every single stain … This is gonna take a while, Claws; don't wait up. I'll see you at lunch later."

When Logan turned away, lips tight in disappointment and annoyance, he was unexpectedly being hit in the back with that damn polishing rag, uncomfortably cold drops of water and soap dripping down his skin as he hadn’t bothered to put on a shirt himself before sniffing down his lover all the way to the garage. Apparently, that subconscious plan of distracting Scott from whatever had driven him out of their shared apartment had worked.

"On second thought? I also happen to see other things far better now. Like your bike being even more of a mess than my car. So why don't you join me here and when we're done, we spend the rest of the morning getting clean in a long hot bath ourselves? Together?"

A broad grin on his lips suddenly, Logan went to find a bucket and cleaning cloths.

Chapter 2: Barely a Spark

It's been a week since Logan's outburst.

A month since Scott's last mental breakdown.

A year since they decided to move out to the Canadian wilderness and build a life there in peace.

Whatever life they could have.

More importantly, it's been 3 years since Jean's death.

Three - long and ruthless - years.

The first year left the X-Men in shambles, repairable, but entirely in shambles.

Scott was an absolute mess.

Everyone was.

Yet none of them face the brutal, temptatious, tug that is the remnants of Jean's mental link. It dragged him to follow everywhere she's been. Mindlessly following as if he was only a shadow of the man he use to be and considering how close he was to Jean - how close they were to her - it made sense. Scott, at the time, lived and breathed Jean. Wherever the siren's call beckons, he would follow with no hesitation. Even at times, he would be found staring out aimlessly in the cold dark, standing there in the middle of a hallway, a classroom, the dining hall, or any of the fields outside.

For hours.

No sound.

No sign of living beside the rise and fall of his chest.

Mind out of reach, yet the body is there taking all the beating from the lack of care.

And Logan went with him.

Silently following the man after weeks of everyone in the mansion trying to figure out the best way to get Scott out of this state and back to some means of normalcy.

Normal.

What was normal when you're a mutant?

There was no normal when it came to them.

When it came to Jean.

At first, Logan told himself that he was simply doing what Jean would wish for him to do. Watch after Scott, make sure the boy scout didn't cry when he stubbed his toe, not to poke and prod as he always had done. As he always will do just to get a rise out of the ginger-brunet.

Scott was cute when he's angry, is cute.

Logan didn't know when it had happened, but sometime during Jean's progression into becoming Phoenix led the three of them down a spiraling, yet not so complicated, path of love, lust, and loyalty. His love for Jean outshines whatever attraction he felt towards Scott and Scott felt the same way. Despite that, the perfect duo became a chaotic trio that brought forth so much love, admiration, support, and--.

Logan couldn't let Scott be.

If he's more honest with himself, seeing the dark circles peeking from under the glasses, the withering form of the former X-Men leader, the hoarse whispers for Jean when the man couldn't scream for her anymore. Or the night Logan came across Scott sitting in a bathtub of rising water motionless--.

No.

He couldn't let the man be.

Jean wouldn't want that.

And...

He wouldn't want that either.

It's why, despite his constant denial to himself, he spent the next few years caring for Scott - giving an actual shit for once.

For - always.

He always gave a shit.

Jean knew that too.

She always knew.

Maybe that's why whenever Scott has an episode it was always at a time Logan was awake. Or nearby. Or a moment away from running towards the man he cares deeply for.

Yeah, he won't admit it out loud.

But, he does, without a doubt, gave a shit.

Scott might have known it too.

Every time Logan finds him, he grasps the feral like a lifeline and in many cases this is true. Logan has saved Scott from himself more times than he'd like. He doesn't stop though. And Scott lets him in. Reveals all the vulnerabilities, all the tears, all the shifting emotions, and the fears. All of it. Knowing full well that Logan would sweep the man into his arms and protect him from the world.

It made sense to them.

Perfect sense.

Logan is the last living remnant of Jean Grey.

And he feels the same way with Scott.

They were connected by one common interest, one common love, and one common grief. They mourn her together, they heal together, and they're beginning to understand how to live without her. It wasn't about erasing their memories of her from their minds, although both men were very tempted into doing so considering the line of psychics at speed dial. It was about turning these painful memories into something beautiful.

Remembering the joys they all shared; her laughter, her smile, and their first intimate night as a trio.

All of it into something they could look back on without their hearts shattering again.

Or Scott trying to join her.

Or Logan losing himself to his rage for being the one that...

For being the one that...

"Logan?"

His name is said softly, full of tremors and choked with tears.

Scott needed him again.

Wiping the exhaustion from his eyes, Logan hangs the remaining dishes into the rack, drying his hands on a striped cloth, before turning around to meet the ruby stare of his companion.

Friend?

Lover?

They're still working on it.

"Yeah? What's the matter, boy scout?"

His own tone was just as soft, perhaps more so considering how Scott shifts nervously in front of him. Eye contact was already at the floor just as his shoulders hunched forward. Remaining silent, but his body language spoke more than needed.

Must have been a bad one, Logan thought.

His tongue already clicking at the roof of his mouth.

It meant Scott is withdrawing into his shell.

He doesn't blame him.

They both shared their nights filled with nightmares.

A part of him does wish that Scott wouldn't regress back to this state, not when they spent 2 years moving passed it. The other part reminds him that he's the reason why they're both suffering - it was a reminder that stabbed at him like a hot knife threatening to cut him painfully slow.

Logan ignores the daily annoyance that is his sinking pit of guilt to gently wrap his arms around Scott's waist. Gingerly pulling them close. Brushing his nose along a cheekbone before settling his chin on top the dark red hair. Scott relaxes in his arms. Not instantly, but slowly melts into the comforting embrace. He was no longer tense, but Logan can still smell the remaining tears falling.

"Sorry." "Don't be."

They both meant it.
