What about Bo's relationship with Jade??
SCIENCE BUDDIES! THEY ARE FORAGING IN THE DIRT TOGETHER
Bo has never been particularly afraid of the twins, his first impressions landing somewhere between "distrusts" and "potentially dangerous so stay on guard", but they don't set off his anxiety as much as others might speculate. Most of the reason they're intimidating is because half the time they're playing with people while doing odd jobs for Azul, at least in Bo's eyes.
Jade's interest in Bo peaked upon the discovery of his (then) budding insect collection. A fellow nature-lover would surely be a pleasant recruit to his club, right...? Well, not officially, but Bo is a returning honorary member. They sometimes watch over each other's vivariums like a form of pet-sitting and love to chat about what "adventures" they got up to. Usually, if one has mysteriously disappeared off-campus, the other will have as well, and they'll return soon in less than stellar shape with bags full of moss. No need to worry.
Outside of their bond through being absolute fucking nerds, they don't typically hang out together if it isn't situational. Bo will, on occasion, seek out Jade for assistance with potionology or similar homework, but they tend to go their separate ways.

Just received a work email containing the statement "[our building] has not had a fire alarm since 2015."
Excuse me, what the fuck? That was NINE YEARS AGO!
We just got a new facilities manager and apparently we'll be having a fire drill tomorrow. As fond as I was of our previous facilities manager, I am coming to realize he may not have been particularly diligent in his job. Since arriving in January, his replacement has also made everyone update their 'permission to use state vehicles' paperwork. I'm hoping she tackles the chemical safety signage next because it is horribly outdated - the ones on our lab doors still have the contact info of someone who hasn't worked here for nine months.

Gossip: a teacher at my brother's school is pregnant and is also dating another guy teacher (who has dated like half the faculty at the school, but i dont judge). Someone congratulated the guy on having a baby, and he said it wasn't his. Turns out the pregnant teacher wanted her babies to have the same father, so she went and had sex with her ex WHILE STILL DATING the guy teacher to get pregnant again. Idk what to think of it but it sure is juicy imo
like the kardashians......

When I think about consent, I think about a professional development thing I did at a job many years ago.
It was about encouraging creativity in kids, so they started with us making art. We started with self portraits. There were pipe cleaners, and so I made a three-dimensional, hollow head. I was pretty proud of it, and one of the facilitators came over with a camera and said, "Can I take a picture?"
I said no, and kept working. She took the picture.
I was upset. She'd asked, and then done what she wanted anyways? Why ask if she didn't want to know the answer? She'd heard me, it was clear.
I asked her to delete the photo, and she did, but she seemed surprised. My coworkers told me, "She doesn't know that you mean what you say."
(A baffling sentiment to this day. Why would I say something I don't mean? But it probably has to do with how I never hear about workplace drama until after the fact, and generally don't get invited out unless it's an all-staff event. I'm just different enough to not get included, but not so different that folks won't talk to me at all.)
Anyways. Today I went to another professional development and nobody asked me to do art on command, or took a photo without permission. I had a good time, and came up with some useful materials from it. People understood that I meant what I said, and they said things they really meant too.
When I finished my pipe cleaner self-portrait, it was time to share. I showed everyone the creation and I was pretty happy with it. But time was up, so I smooshed it. Pipe-cleaner art is inherently ephemeral.
That was maybe 10 years ago, but I'm still thinking about it. How someone took my 'no' to mean 'yes.' If yes means yes, and no means yes, how do you communicate a 'no?'
