everyone shut up this is ACTUALLY what fans of different composers are like
Mahlerians are PROUD TO BE ABSOLUTELY INSUFFERABLE DRAMA QUEENS, THE LIKES OF WHICH EVEN THE WAGNER CULT COULD NEVER SO MUCH AS ASPIRE TO BE. WE ARE ONE WITH THE UNYIELDING EBB AND FLOW OF THE BOUNDLESS UNIVERSE, DAMN IT ALL!
Shostakovich fans are like Mahler fans except they actually understand what sarcasm is. We also all really like the Muppets for some reason. Most of us own cats and likely have at least one mental illness.
Liszt fans are either tweenagers who love anime or salty old pianists who know a disturbing amount about music theory. These two factions are constantly at war.
Copland fans are either very, very far right or very, very far left. Either way, neither side actually listens to all of Copland's repertoire.
Tchaikovsky fans are either Russian grandmas or LGBT orchestra kids on Tiktok. Either those or the one noob who heard there were cannons once.
Wagner fans. Yes, there are the cringey neo-Nazi Wagnerians, but anti-Nazi Wagnerians are a whole new level of chaotic good. They spend their time dreaming up the most disastrous, chaotic Ring productions possible, with the sole purpose of making Richard Wagner's entire family simultaneously spin in their graves. They take "death of the author" to a whole new level and constantly run on nothing but 100% pure spite. You want a Wagnerian who would beat up Wagner in a Denny's parking lot on your side.
Prokofiev fans will unironically say "ackshually...". That's it.
Dvorak fans are homeschool kids. They're either soul-crushingly innocent or devastatingly horny.
Sousa fans are just high school band directors who try to convince themselves they like Sousa to get through the semester.
Joplin fans constantly argue over whether Joplin's music should be played twice as quickly or twice as slowly than it's actually written. Also sick of hearing about Janis.
Chopin fans are exactly like Liszt fans, except there are 20% more "uwu softboi flowercrown" edits of Chopin than Liszt floating around on Instagram and Tumblr.
Holst fans will drag you into an alleyway and beat you up with their bare hands if you so much as mention The Planets.
Bernstein fans are either horny theatre kids or communists, but it's more likely they're both at once. They are very opinionated about recordings, and express their approval of the ones they like by gyrating excessively to them. If you put a Bernstein fan, a Mahler fan, and a Shostakovich fan in one room, they will either topple a national government or have a threesome.
Ravel fans are inherently Wes Anderson fans. You can be friends with one for years without knowing a single thing about their personality.
Schoenberg fans are like Mahlerians but with worse memes.
Brahms fans are... I have never met a Brahms fan. I'm sure they exist, but I'm pretty sure my own taste in music scares them off.
Paganini fans are almost always TwoSet kids, particularly the ones who try to convince people that "classical music isn't boring because it's basically metal." If you tell them Paganini played viola, they will spontaneously combust.
Rachmaninov fans are ultimately really chill, but are often socially awkward. If you ask a Rachmaninov fan "how are you?", they will most likely respond with "you too."
Schumann fans are Mahlerians on medication.
Stravinsky fans think they're chaotic and unhinged and listen to the most obscure underground shit, but in all actuality they just decided to enter their edgy phase after a lifetime of being sheltered and forced to listen to nothing but Handel by their parents. Possibly homeschooled.
Ysaye fans are like Paganini fans, except they're depressed graduate music students with permanent calluses on their fingers.
Debussy fans go to art school, decide they don't like art school, but have been doing art school too long to turn back, so they can't get out of art school. They may be high on weed at any given moment.
Satie fans are just possessed vessels of Erik Satie. Death cannot hinder Erik Satie. Erik Satie will return to this mortal plane. Search your feelings. You are already Erik Satie.

(A Little Life, Part 5, Chapter 2, pg. 602 - Hanya Yanagihara)
Why Schumann?
After some digging on the internet, I have learnt that it is not a coincidence that Hanya chose Schumann's Fantasie in C for this moment, and I believe Jude was playing the first movement in this part. Fantasie in C was composed in 1836 as only a piece called Ruines, expressing his distress at being distant from his beloved Clara, and then it became the first movement of Fantasie. The first movement of the work contains a musical quote from Beethoven's song cycle, An die ferne Geliebte (To the distant beloved) as a secret love message:
Take, then, these songs, beloved, which I have sung for you
However, this musical quotation was not acknowledged by Schumann. The movement also was prefaced with a quote from Friedrich Schlegel:
Durch alle Töne tönet / Im bunten Erdentraum / Ein leiser Ton gezogen / Für den, der heimlich lauschet.
Resounding through all the notes / In the earth's colorful dream / There sounds a faint long-drawn note / For the one who listens in secret
During this period, Robert Schumann and Clara Wieck was in separation because Clara's father disapproved of their relationship. Those quotations truly reflected his yearning to Clara, his passionate love to her, and it is more beautiful to learn that they communicated mostly through music and journals because Clara did not communicate verbally well. In a letter sent to Clara in 1838, he wrote:
The first movement may well be the most passionate I have ever composed - a deep lament for you.
They got married in 1840 but their marriage was not through an easy path because Schumann was not mentally well.

In August of 1844, he suffered a severe mental and physical breakdown. He was in pains, he trembled, wept, could not sleep and even became so sick that he could not walk across the room by himself. By February of 1854, Schumann insisted to be committed, as he felt that he had lost control of his mind. On 27th February, he attempted suicide by throwing himself from a bridge into the Rhine River. He was rescued and taken to the hospital later and remained there until his death on 29th July, 1856. During his confinement, Clara was not allowed to visit him (they communicated thanks to Johannes Brahms, a very good friend of the family, especially Clara) and only able to meet him 2 days before his death.
In Clara's journal on 26th February, 1854 (1 days before his attempt suicide), she wrote:
He was so melancholy that I cannot possibly describe it. When I merely touched him, he said, "Ah Clara, I am not worthy of your love." He said that, he to whom I had always looked up with the greatest, deepest reverence.
The resemblance of Jude and Schumann's mental illness may be one of the reason that Hanya chose this piece for Jude to play after he and Willem got home after their big fight. Jude plays the song with the intention to ease his sadness and fear. In this moment, he feels that this might be the end of their relationship, he is afraid that Willem would leave him because now he finally sees how sick he is. The piece Fantasie symbolizes a yearning for love but in this moment, it is a calling for Willem to stay, to understand, to forgive his action, his sickness.

These pictures was taken at my Music School, I’ve been walking passed their Portraits every weekend so it gave me an idea.
And Yes ,their portraits got placed next to eachother.Robert must be very gladful to be close to his Idol.
There are portraits of Mozart, Rachmaninoff , Chopin and a bust statue of Bach in my school too. So maybe there’ll be a continuation to this 😉

Another composer some of you guys might have been waiting for.
Context : there’s this event in Japanese illustrator community called メイドの日 or “Maid day” being hold on 10th of May every year, where people will post their drawing of characters in maid costume. So ,as a follower of many jp illustrator,I can’t help but jump into this bandwagon with this iconic maid costume guy.
The four romantic composers gang made their cameo here too.

Robert Schumann(Cobalt memories parody)
As the title said , this one is a parody of the scene from Harumakigohan - Cobalt Memories.
The rock part is actually a paint over of photograph I took while I’m on a holiday trip.
The lyrics or story of this song actually has nothing to do with Schumann or the other composers. It’s just my weird idea of combining two completely unrelated things I like with eachother .(you will see more of these in the future.)

umbrella academy characters as music on my playlist of my favorite classical pieces
luther: Symphony No. 6 in F Major, Op. 68 “Pastoral”: II. Szene am Bach: (Andante molto mosso) - Ludwig Van Beethoven (performed by Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique with John Eliot Gardiner as the conductor)
fits season three luther the best
this is the lightest movement of the symphony, which i think fits in with him falling in love with sloane and working on growing through his childhood trauma
the last phrase of the piece is viewed as two birds taking flight. that’s literally him and sloane.
diego: Träumerei (Kinderderszenen, Op. 15) - Gemafrei - Robert Schumann (performed by Ronny Matthes)
also fits season three diego best
this is from a collection of schumann writing pieces that highlight his life (this one is from his dreaming during childhood)
he now has a child (in stan and in his and lila’s biological child) and is essentially dreaming of all the ways he’s going to do better at raising his kid than his dad did for him
allison: Piano Sonata No. 3 in A Minor, Op. 28 - Sergei Prokofiev (performed by Matti Raekallio)
this is a piano sonata that doesn’t have actual movements separating it into chunks, just a vibe difference throughout different parts of it
the most technically demanding of prokofiev piano sonatas and he said it was “pretty, interesting, and practical” (which fits allison pretty well)
klaus: Otello, Act 4: “Ave Maria” (Desdemona) - Guiseppe Verdi (performed by Cristina Gallardo-Domas, Maurizio Barbacini, and Das Münchner Rundfunkorchester)
desdemona’s last moments on stage before getting murdered by her husband, and she’s essentially saying “i love this man with my whole heart and i need to prove that to him before something drastic happens”
klaus is very much so the same due to his whole “i love dave with my whole heart and i need to prove that to him before he dies in a war that uselessly killed a shit ton of people”
they’re also both characters that are unapologetically in love
five: String Quartet No. 8 in C Minor, Op. 110: 1. Largo - Dmitri Shostakovich (performed by the Borodin Quartet)
if the second movement is five in seasons one and two, the first movement is five in season three
he’s pissed off with the world around him, yet he’s stuck with this bone deep tiredness that he can’t get rid of
he just wants all the difficulties in his life to fade away so he can go back to living as close to a normal life as he can
ben: Act 3: LII. Juliet’s Death - Sergei Prokofiev (performed by the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra with Vasily Petrenko as the conductor)
ben is dead in season one and two, but the audience knows that he’s still capable of interacting with others due to klaus’s powers, and the audience knows juliet isn’t actually dead, but romeo thinks she is
this movement is one of the most heart-wrenching in all of classical music
the movement that follows is juliet’s actual death, ending on an even sadder note that this movement began with (similar to ben fucking dying again)
viktor: Symphony No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 36: I. Andante sostenuto - Moderato con anima - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (performed by San Francisco Orchestra with Michael Tilson Thomas as the conductor)
it’s believed that tchaikovsky composed this when he was pissed off at the world for his inability to be openly queer and he just ended up being tired of everything
follows viktor’s storyline of coming into your true identity and trying to find a sense of confidence with it
lila: Piano Trio in G Major, L. 5: III. Andante espressivo - Claude Debussy (performed by Bertrand Chamayou)
very little is known about the history of the piece (which fits lila)
there’s a lot of emotion present with a lot of vibrato present in the stringed instruments, giving an additional sense of longing
the climax of the piece is very accented, giving it a sense of almost sadness and keeping that longing present

If, while at the piano, you attempt to form little melodies, that is very well; but if they come into your mind of themselves, when you are not practising, you may be still more pleased; for the internal organ of music is then roused in you. The fingers must do what the head desires; not the contrary.
- Robert Schumann

「Composers Rkgk/Scribble Log #1 」
by Rozelnao (Nao)
——
Context
So ..lately I’ve been drawing a lots of Composers artwork(more like rkgk/scribble ,I haven’t draw any full fledge illustration of composers ever since that Chopin ‘s Birthday art. But I plan to do one soon) ,which I mostly post on my twt account.
Today I scrolled through all of what I did so far and came up with an idea of making a compilation/log (as they often called this kind of stuff on pixiv) of these art on my Tumblr account in order to keep it active 🥲
Okay enough of my rambling, please enjoy ^^
//There will be a lot’s of robert schumann drawing since I just read his biography and that makes me want to draw him a lots

Romantic Composers gang in Songkran Festival
Idk what makes me want to draw these guys celebrating my National Festival , but anyway it was fun to draw
Robert being cheery because he’s in his “Florestan(Extrovert)” mode
Mendy come along with Robert as a good friend he is.
Liszt being himself , got surrounded by the girls due to his popularity
Chopin supposedly being dragged to the festival by Liszt. He wants to go home so bad lol
Tumblr media
Robert Schumann ft. Nuigurumi Meme
My friend requested me to draw it..

Franz Liszt w/ Oshi no ko eyes’s pattern
I have watched an anime called “Oshi no Ko” and I love the “Star” pattern in the Main character’s eyes so much. So I tried draw it (without much success….) with Liszt because who could have fit with the theme of “Superstar” or even the symbolism of shining “Talented” and “Brilliance” more than him ,right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Liszt Scribbled on Music sheet
I can’t help drawing something on it lol

Schumann has obtained “A Mysterious Steel Pen!”
Based on an account in his biography where Schumann found a steel pen being placed on Beethoven’s grave in Vienna , so he took it and even uses it with some of his works.

And That’s all for the first log ^^
I hope you enjoyed 👍
